This is the easiest class I have ever taken. Seriously, take this class for GE requirements. He is a funny/laid back teacher. Only have six speeches the whole year, and gives tons of extra credit if needed, which it shouldn't be since this class is a breeze.Plus hes not too bad to look at either!!

This class was fun and easy. I would definitely recommend taking Mr. Bates. He is nice, helpful and very laid-back. He grades simply fair, just make sure you don't begin to study your speech the night before... he will notice. He offers plenty of extra credit and he's really cute.

Teachers don't get much better than this. The class is never boring. You will get alot of practice giving mini speeches before your big ones are due. Only $6 for books. If you follow his instructions and do your work, you'll get a good grade. The only problem, his good-looks and charm are almost distracting!

Everyone has a voice but some flaming here seems weird. Bates might have "arrogant language", but anyone with any sort of intelligence knows he is really making fun of himself. Extremely helpful, you will learn TONS about speech and he actually PREPARES you for each assignment -even if you aren't aware of it.

easy class if you go to class. I took him at moorpark college Got an A. If you do not like going to class DO NOT TAKE HIM. and go to B.K to look for a job. This is college you need go to class. But this Fullerton College which is like high school.

Although I did well in this class, I did not really like this professor and wouldn't recommend him. He was not very professional and taught very little. It seemed to me that he left it up to you to figure out how it all worked through example, trial, and error. I would have liked it if he had lectured just a bit more.

Ben is very laid back. You must show up on time, and you must show up every day. He's funny, sarcastic, and young but not in an way where he's out to prove himself. He's very clear on what he wants, and he's helpful as well. You must do the work and take it seriously. I learned a great deal that I know will be used in the real world.Great professor

Good Class. Make sure u come to class every time or u'll miss out on what's next. He's straight forward in what he wants and doesn't care for excuses which is good.He's not hard at all cuz he tells you exactly what he expects.Do the speech even if you dont feel ready, cuz itll cost you big. Everyone who failed are the ones who didnt come to class.

He is very flexible! I had to miss a speech for a modeling gig and he was completely understanding as long as I kept him updated. Ended up getting an A in the class. He makes you feel comfortable and is relatively sarcastic and fun. I would take him!

Good teacher. I was not interested in Speech prior to taking this class. You will do rougly 5 speeches and a simple final. Make sure you do the extra credit, it took me a whole grade up.

Great professor! Teaching style is laid back, but all important points are still made. No textbook required! At the most you will need some note cards & some sort of visual aid for one of your speeches. Show up to class, pay attention, take notes, do your speeches and extra credit (if needed) and you will do fine. Pretty straight forward guy. EZ!

Ppl who didnt make it were lazy & lame. EZ class! He gives u an opportunity 2 participate in a speech competition. If ur getting an F all semester long, as long as you place in the speech competition its an automatic A. This is towards the end of the semester tho. My advice is 2 still go 2 class tho 2 learn what u need 2 make it in the comp.

Very sarcastic guy, he'll make fun of himself a lot which is really funny. Says he is not self-centered, but he is, a little. You are given outlines for speeches which are clear to follow. Make them interesting with your own creativity. Easy final. He also works in Moorpark and lives in hollywood so give him a break if he's cranky. Fun class.

Overall a fun professor. Made giving a speech easy and relaxing. Great sense of humor.

You don't need the book. 2 major speeches (over 50% of grade) and a few mini ones, as long as you do them all on time, you get a B or an A. Class was "chill" and at end of semester practically 0 people were nervous doing their speech. There is some extra credit. There is speech outlines required. My most entertaining class in FC.

Ben Bates is a pretty dope teacher. He is really chill about giving speeches. At times he can be a little to easy because some people just straight rad off note cards during a speech. When he strictly said in the beginning of the semester that if anyone reads straight off notecards he'd fail them. Thats a big SIKE. But take him hes a chill guy.

Great professor! Gives students multiple chances to earn points and pass class. Very helpful in his lessons and some speeches he gives are incredibly entertaining. Definitely recommend to any student who has sub par public speaking skills.

Do know about hot. but then again I'm a guy. How can I explain Bates. He's the type of guy if you met anywhere and started talking to him you and him would become best mates. When it comes to his class he makes it the most interesting place to be. the chemistry in class is always fun and hilarious

By far the most useful class I've taken at Fullerton. Won 1st place in a speech tourney at CSUF while in his class. If you want to become a better public speaker, take his class.

Benji is really good teacher. He might seem mean at the beginning, actually he is mean but you kinda learn to like that about him. He knows his subject, he makes class fun. He acts like a friend with you and i like that. Take him and you won't regret him. PS. Show up to every class; he appreciates that

He is very knowledgeable in communication and very funny. You'll enjoy his class a lot! I did. He has a good way of interacting with the students and he's very helpful. The class becomes like a family at the end of the semester. Oh and I also learned a lot. Plus he's not bad to look at. He works hard for his chilly peppers! :)

I HIGHLY recommend taking him. He's incredibly knowledgeable and you will learn SO MUCH! If you have a hard time speaking in front of people he creates a great atmosphere in the class and it feels like your speaking to your friends and not a class. Seriously, the best class I've ever taken. I had a lot of fun.

Great Teacher! He made this horrible subject fun and interesting. He doesn't use the text book very much so buying an old used one is okay. Take this class and do the work and it'll be the easiest A you ever earned!

He is a good guy. He likes to talk about himself, a lot.. but he is very entertaining and genuinely wants to help you pass and understand.. even if you think he is full of it when you actually are in his class. His grading is fair (sometimes very easy), and gives you a lot of free reign. Added bonus: he has the most gorgeous eyes I've ever seen.

Ben is a great teacher! I've taken him for Speech 100 as well as 105, and if it wasn't for him I would never go on to win many speech awards as I later did. Bates is a real cool guy in general as a teacher and as a person. His grading is easy and as long as you put in EFFORT into doing the speech assignment, there is no way you will fail this class. He's also a funny guy. You'll come out of this class with no fear of public speaking anymore. TAKE THIS CLASS.

if you do all the work, and have them ready to go on the first day they are due... you will do good in the class... he is a great teacher, just he is a little hard on not being ready, even though not everyone can go on the first day... just be ready on the first day, and you should do fine..

TAKE HIM! He is such a nice guy and wants you to succeed. I had such a hard time with standing up in front of the class and peaking but he made it comfortable. I met a lot of cool people in class and he made the enviornment fun! Get your speeches done on the due date and be ready to speak on that day and it will be smooth sailin'. HE IS AWESOME!

Great teacher. It's an easy class if you are not lazy. If you procrastinate, you will do poorly on your speeches. Be on time and never write your note cards on the day of speeches, he will make you go first. If you have to take this class, take him.

You actually have to try to not get a good grade. The people in my class that didn't get an A literally just didn't do their speeches. He is helpful, funny, and makes speech fun! You won't even feel like you're public speaking. Don't buy the book, you won't need it! Take him!!

It's super fun to be in class with Prof. Bates. He is fun and nothing you can ask more for a great teacher. Do your speech on the 1st due date, u'll get A. no homework. a few online quizzes which you have a generous amount of time to do it. Barely use textbook (just for online quizzes) 2 majors speeches, and 3-4 small speeches. He is easy grader.

Mr. Bates makes class fun and relaxing so you are not so nervous when you have to do your speeches. He gives many examples and is very clear when giving lectures. Very passionate about speech and even though I was dreading this class it became my favorite class for the semester. Really awesome guy.

5 quizzes, 1 final. most of the homework is doing actual speeches. Hes funny, encouraging, one-of-a-kind. I definitely recommend him for SPCH 100. He cares about you which is great because when he grades he takes into consideration your effort.

Best professor in a while. Don't hesitate to take his speech class. Very manageable class and fair professor. There shouldn't be a reason why you don't get an A. Attendance is imperative (duh), unless you have legitimate excused absence. You're in college, don't ditch class unless you absolutely must. Bring a note from the doctor if you do.

Wonderful, borderline life changing class. That could be the result of the teacher and the students, but you can't have one without the other. Teacher is engaging and easy to approach. You'll never dread going to class. Some papers are required and can be time consuming and seem to come at the end of the semester. Take this class!

I took his class in the summer, it was a six week course. This made things a little more difficult but he definitely taught the class well.

Professor Bates is cool and his class is really helpful to improve speech skills. His class composed of about 6 speeches including Experience, Impromptu, Resource, Delivery, Informative, persuasive speeches. Informative and persuasive are your midterm and final speeches which account for most of your grade. I prepared, practiced a lot and got an A.

One of the most fun classes I've taken. Professor Bates really made Public Speaking a very enjoyable class. He gave very good feedback on the speeches and explained how to structure and present them very well.

Used rate my professor to find someone good and this professor definitely was the right one ! I dont usually go up to professors after the semester is over but I had to thank him for his great help!

I had Mr. Bates during the summer. He is super funny. If you don't take his class you will regret it. Although on the first day he had almost scared me away and I wanted to drop because of everything he threw at us. Im super glad that I didn't drop because his class was super worth it. Our class was from 6:30 to 9:20pm and the time went by so quick

This man made a 4 hour Friday class actually fun! Ben is hilarious and truly cares and wants everyone to pass and succeed. The class is a bit of work, but he makes it very clear what he's looking for. As long as you follow the directions which are all laid out on his website, you're guaranteed a good grade. He has really improved my public speaking, and he's pretty funny.

Very cognizant of student's attention spans in 4 hour friday class, takes frequent breaks and makes class fun bc he's pretty funny. 5 online quizzes, 5 speeches, 1-2 written assignments and extra credit opps. No reason to not get an A in here. If you actually want to improve instead of filling a req, he gives good feedback

Kept us woke for a 4 hr class every Friday. Speeches weren't so bad (but that's bc I'm not good at public speaking), the outlines were fine too. His rubrics were easy to understand and always gives templates and samples of previous work which made it even more easier to understand how to do the outline.

Professor Bates was so awesome! He makes you feel so at ease when doing speeches, I don't think most people enjoy it, but he helps you feel less awkward. He made the class enjoyable with his humor and he provides great feedback. :)

I love how organized the class is. He really spells out exactly what he expects from you on each assignment. He even provides example assignments. He's also a really fast grader. As long as you give yourself enough time to prepare and rehearse your speeches you should be fine. Easy going as long as the prompts are followed.

I took this class online asynchronous, and I got so lucky with him. I, for some ungodly reason, had so many dang issues with submission, and he was consistently very understanding and helpful.

Professor Bates is very understanding just email him. This class was 100% online and we needed to record ourselves and post it on Canvas. There are about 6 speeches total. You are also assigned to peer review 5 speeches after each speech. Speech topics are relatively easy, and he gives good feedback. He provides speech outlines if needed.

Professor Bates is an amazing professor. Has about over 13 modules with a good amount of assignments. All speeches were very easy especially since he provided outlines to help you out. Works with late assignments and also has a great embedded tutor. Gives a fair amount of extra credit that helps out on your grades if you need it. Take his class!

Professor Bates was absolutely amazing! He had a good sense of humor, and the speeches we were assigned were always easy and fun! Don't get me wrong, you still have to memorize a good amount of speeches, but every time in that class was a good time. If you participate and get the assignments done, this class is truly enjoyable.

just finished my class. professor is one of the best I had, really easy on grading as long as you put the effort. Every other week you have to submit a speech, do research etc. some weeks there's a lot of work you need to do, others are kind of easy. He lets you have extensions, does ton of extra credit by the end of semester. Great professor 100%

Professor Bates is by far one of my favorite professors while attending Fullerton College. His in-person classes are quick pace, so staying on task is important, but he gives so many chances for make ups. Not only this, there are many extra credit opportunities. Overall a great professor, hilarious, and makes you look forward to his class.
