Dr. Collier is one of the best assets Northwest has in their business department. He is very smart and knows what he is teaching and he demands the very best from all of his students. The class is challenging but can be very rewarding.

AVOID! He is tenured, so if you go to his office for help he will say "I CANT HELP YOU" repeatedly. bad tests, drops grading scale

Very hard, I spent so much time stressing about the class that I don't remember anything I learned. He is very negative and not helpful at all. Also he needs to leave his personal out of the classroom.

He is a very hard teacehr and doesn't care about his students at all!! Don't take him at all, he is the worst teacher NW has to offer. His tests are extremly hard and he drops his grading scale but it's still hard to pass. He sucks at teaching!!

Collier is one of those guys who is smart, knows it, and thinks all else are inferior to him. If you get stuck taking him, ALWAYS go to class, read, do worksheets, and practice tests. Do all you can. Tests are EXTREMELY HARD. Doesn't help you at all. Ask questions if you don't get it!!Study!!!!!

Nothing hard and the exams are easy if u do the worksheets and Go to class evertime....dont miss any classes. My first econ class and I was fine. If u dont go to class then believe the class is very hard.

He is a good teacher, and explains it well. The course material is difficult and complex, and the tests are somewhat hard. You have to be able to understand the material. The old tests great help and are on ecompanion. A lot of people do bad in the course, but that's just b/c they don't study.

This is the worst teacher i have ever had. He doesn't give a crap about any of his students and thinks they are all dumb. His tests are extremely hard and it doesn't matter if you go to class he hates you anyways and will more than likely fail you or give you a horrible grade.

Good instructor and enthusiastic and interesting to listen to but after lecture and going over worksheets you will still not feel prepared for tests; especially after taking that 1st test. If you get assigned to him, never miss lecture and know the worksheets and understand Graphs. Drops grad scale

if you do get stuck and have to take him be prepared to study. the best thing to do is use the past exams, they are a huge help. he is not very clear in his teaching and it's almost better to teach yourself. if you do study then it's not too bad.

I don't understand why people think he is that bad. He is very helpful. Look over his old tests and your will have at least 50% of the test covered. Go to class, actually do the old tests and the work sheets and you willbe fine.

OK he knows his stuff too well and expects you to know it as easily as he does. He likes graphs way too much. His tests are hard, past exams do help somewhat but for the final you have to memorize every single worksheet from top to bottom. If you can't avoid him pray, only god can help you now.

I went every day to the 8:00am class. I retyped all of my notes (55 pages). I Studied all night for all 4 exams. I got a C. He was very unreceptive to my questions - and that's on a automatic class curve: 85% = A. Avoid at all costs.

Includes test questions with several semi colons, several comas and five to six ands in a single sentence. Takes simple subject matter and makes it difficult. (85% is an A for a reason) Confusing at best, try to avoid. The old tests do help a lot just watch out for different convoluted wording. I recieved a B doing absolutely nothing pre-final.

Dr. Collier was the most CHALLENGING professor I had at Northwest and I mean that as a compliment. Because of him, I learned SO much!! I even became an econ minor-and ONLY took him because I knew he would be so willing to help me out. GREAT ASSET FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO LEARN AND BE CHALLENGED; SLACKERS BEWARE!!!

I am a good student, I went to all SI's, went to the TDC, and studied like it was my job... and still failed. He it too smart for his own good; the amount of information you need to learn is unreal. If you are involved on campus, taking any other class besides his, or want to have a life, I do not advise taking Collier's class.

Everyone thinks collier is such a hard teacher. If you study, do the worksheets and go to the S.I. you should pass easily. I am learning great stuff in his class, and he makes you learn it. If your a lazy student that never studies and don't care you will fail! Put some effort in the class and should not have a problem.

I took Econ II with him and had no problem what so ever. I got a 94% in his class. As long as you go to class and listen you should have no problem unless you are an idiot.

I've been reading through these comments and think they're hilarious. I changed my major to econ because of Dr. Collier. Anyone who says he is not helpful has not asked for his help. I took Econ II, Int. Econ, Microeconomic Theory, and Forecasting Business Conditions from him and got an A every time. You do have to TRY, but this is college

I highly suggest not taking Dr. Collier. I don't know what these people are talking about with getting 94% in his class but this is probably one of the hardest most boring class I have ever taken. He is way too smart for his own good. I'm glad I don't have to take anymore econ classes because I would never take him ever again...don't take him

Tough teacher, best if taken during the summer. I got an A, but at one point I thought I was going to fail. Do all of the worksheets and go over the past exams over and over again. Follow the study guides exactly. Remember though, there's a reason his name is Osama Ben Collier.

This is the hardest professor I have ever had only grades you recieve are from tests. He is ok when discussing things in class but when you take his test its a whole other story. Do not take unless you have all your free time to devote to his class. Also he prides himself on being tuff. So look out!

He is the worst teacher. He thinks he knows everything and thinks you should know how to do everything yourself. He never explains anything and he is a real jerk if you dont understand something that he does. I would not recommend him to anyone! I wouldn't even call him a teacher.

AT first he frustrated me, but after taking three of his classes I feel he made me a better economist. You may not receive an A in all his classes, but i can promise if you really care about learning economics he is the guy to take. As an advisor and a professor he is good he tells it like it is and is straight foreward.Like to learn take his class

Super Smart!!! Knows what he is doing. Very nice and willing to help. If you don't study his help might not be helpful because you didn't do your part.Do all the worksheets and ask questions and you should do fine. Don't write notes on what is on his slides, take notes on what he says. Read the book for exams and study worksheets.

As an econ major, this is undoubtedly the toughest class you will have to take. Having said that, it has far expanded my comprehension skills for any sort of econ theory. Heed everything that Dr.Collier says and test him a time or two he's pretty funny and easy going. He has a PhD from a top economics program and was privileged to learn from him.

I took Econ because it was required. I took 2 additional Econ classes because Dr. Collier made it interesting. There are no automatic A's with him, but he makes an A attainable if you want one and study to earn it. I was never bored in class because he is so intelligent that he shares info with a highly entertaining and understandable style. LOVE!

I didn't enjoy this class. He was very arrogant and required that we read chapters 3 or 4 times to understand material. But he didn't teach out of on e specific chapter at a time. I wouldn't recommend him.

HE AWFUL HARDEST TEACHER AND WHEN IT COMES TO TESTS THAT IS YOUR ONLY GRADE AND THE STUFF ISNT EVEN IN THE POWERPOINTS FROM THE STUDY GUIDE IT IS A REQUIRED CLASS FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE SO UNLESS YOU LOVE ECON AND ARE GOOD AT IT DO NOT TAKE IT WITH HIM. WORST MISTAKE I EVER MADE!

He is tough. If you don't want someone to actually teach you economics and just want to stick to what common sense and the media tells you about economics, don't take his class. He requires you do your part in studying and understanding the material. If you do, he will help. His toughness has helped me study for teh rest of my classes.

Took 2 upper level econ classes with him. Does a very poor job of explaining the material. By the time he gets done with his 20 minutes of rambling, everyone is so lost we don't even know where to begin asking questions. When we clearly don't understand the material, he gets upset that we're not getting it.

His powerpoints are not long, which is not good. He is difficult to follow. He assigns worksheets that are not for a grade, but if you do not do them you will not understand how to do the problems on the test that you have to work out. The only grades are the tests and extra credit from the econ videos he assigns, which there are not many.

Would take again

He is much better than people on here give him credit for. Yes, it is hard. I barely got an A, literally one point away from a B. You HAVE to put the work in if you want an A, but it can be done. Do everything he assigns even when it's not worth credit. He gives you so much material to help study. I could go on saying good things if I had the room.

OH MY GOD! I have never taken a class as difficult with a more infuriating professor in my life! I understand his want to have a "reversed class" meaning you do all your work outside of class and barely discuss worksheet answers in class. He does not make himself available. If you can, take MICRO somewhere else!

How is Collier grading students this way legal. This goes on to show that the management of the business school is purely money minded and does not care about the students. The law will sleep but it will not die.

I took microeconomics at Purdue in 1980. It was Ben's first time teaching. He just graduated from Milton Friedman course at University of Chicago. Ben taught the class as Professor Friedman did. He never used the text book. To get a passing grade, you need to understand the notes! His exams are essay blue book. I was the first to ace his class.
