best calculus teacher i've ever had
funny guy
he is a very helpful teacher & explains things very well
major hottie
He's a very helpful teacher you should take his class
read the book, study for the tests and enjoy the lectures
very good at relating to his students. Great sense of humor and amicable.
Great guy, doesn't nitpick on grading, like so many other calc teachers.
Really great professor! Took 3 classes with him. Very clear and organized lectures. Great sense of humor too!! Exams are not easy, and you have graded quizzes every class meeting.
Great teacher!!! Although sometimes his dry sarcastic humor gets in the way of teaching. Overall he does a great in explaining the material.
He is the greatest! He is understanding, and a excellent teacher. You will learn math in his class. He explains things very well.
he is one of the best math professors of SMC. recommended to take him. not that hard but if you just study a bit a day you'll get a definate A grade!!! take him!!
Take him. youll understand math like 1+1=2 Thats all i have to say.
He is a very good teacher. If you go to class, his lectures will basically feed you the answers to the test or quiz. He is one of the best.
He is just one the best in math department.not easy but if you go to his classes,do homework you can easily get A or B. I'm gonna take him in math 7.
Great professor, very helpful. his exams and quizes are not so easy but if you do your homework and attend his classes you will do good. i got an A in his class in spring semester i want to take math7 with him also.
Overall a great professor. He goes over all the details of the chapters covered in class. I never even studied for the tests and I always got A's. If you do your HW and attend class it's very easy to get an A.
Jimenez is the best math profesor. I took him in the summer 2004 and he was very helpful and nice. He explains the material very good. You would definetely learn in his class. He gives you a quiz every day and they were helpful.
I am Professor Jimenez's most loyal, devoted student. He is ever so dynamic and thorough & the guy has a big heart. His daily quizzes prepare all students for his challenging exams. I started out in his Elem. Alg. & will stick with him thru pre-calc++
Good teacher and his daily quizzes prepare you for the tests. hes too strict to following the syllabus, when he falls a day behind he pushes to catch up. but hes nice! not an easy A, u need to push
cool but have a quiz every lecture...
I have never been in a math class where there is no partial credit given on work done and where a calculus exam is given on scantron. He doesn't care about the calc work u do, he just wants the right answer. I don't like his method or the way he tries to trick students on tests. not happy at all!
Jimenez was the first math teacher I took where I actually learned and retained the material. He has a very straightforward way of teaching and presents the info with style. Great professor.
Took him during the Summer and he was horrible he tries to trick you on exams and never explains clearly. If you want to go on a suicide mission take him if not take another professor.
Half the class is failing and he let us out 30 min early every day. He goes over the home work with you but the tests are never like the homework. If you want an F, sign up straight-away.
The worst teacher ever! He totally assumes that everybody knows the material very well and is there just to take a quick review. He teaches way TO FAST>>>t and let students leave early most of the times; thus, he rushes to cover the material. Frankly, please do not take this professor, or you'll...
One of the worst math teachers. Half the class has dropped out. In the other half left, half are failling. He always lets the class out early so he doesn't cover the material well. His tests are nothing like the homework or quizes he gives. HE IS HORRIBLE!!!!
I enrolled in this class hoping to pass but he went very fast and took great pride in students not doing well. He would tell us the percentage of students that have failed his class. I'm going to be taking this class over b/c he is a terrible teacher.
Don't be fooled by negative comments by lazy students. If you are paying attention his lectures are extremeley clear. He is the only math teacher i've had who doesn't make math harder by giving you a bunch of extra information or going off on meaningless tangents. I hated math until I took his class
Very bad teacher. The test are not on the homework or quizzes. I got an A in Math 32 and 20, failed the first half of his class, withdrew, changed teachers, and got an A in math 22. Why? Because what he teaches and assigns for homework is not what's on the tests.
Jimenez is an AWESOME professor. He gives quizes every class meeting so that YOU are ready for the tests, and so that YOUR math skills will become better. His tests are difficult, but if you do the quizes and some problems from the book, you should get at least a B. For the A, you must THINK!!
I can relate well to his teaching style. He explains things clearly without skipping steps (at least until later in the semester when you don't need the simple steps broken down). He can be a little strict as far as Math Lab (must finish your 15 hrs or you FAIL), but I liked his class a LOT.
Doesn't collect the homework, but gives quizzes on the material that was covered. If you have questions he helps you out. He is kind of funny. Classes usually end earlier than when it should. Strict on attendance. You will do fine if you do the work.
Horrible teacher! If math is not your strongest subject and new to calculus, do not, I repeat DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. waste of your time, money, and effort, especilly math 7!!!
If you have a decent grasp of math concepts (you're not a total math dummy) & you do the homework, you will excell (just watch those trick ?s!). Ben explains things clearly & thoroughly, but if you're not math-minded, take Terry Green or another user-friendly teacher. Me? I'm taking Ben for Math 20!
Jimenez sucks big time!!! If you are a math major go for him otherwise you'll have a horrible time.He is a little funny in class but that doen't give one an A.
Do the homework(he doesnt collect) but what would it benefit you if u dont? takes it step by step and allows questions, quiz everyday and leave early than actual time :)
I like his teaching style. Not too fast nor slow. Quizes everyday and they do help you on the exams. Study for it. It's calculus!
Explains the stuff, gives easy examples, gives hard tests, and is picky grading. he always leaves class earlier. I fear the final in advance...though he is ready to help and explain. Includes theorems in exams, so you need to memorize them:( Doesn't colect HW, but assigns a lot of them.
BEST MATH TEACHER EVER!!!!!!!!
He is pretty fair on his test the questions usually come from his quizes and lectures. He is very cocky so dont get on his bad side. Very nice guy and will help you with any quetions you have quizes everyday that helps a lot if you are willing to study a lot and be active you should be fine noteasy
He knows his****,& doesn't try to make it confusing. He is as straightforward as possible. There was HW and quizes everyday, but each quiz is worth less than 0.5%, so if you mess up on a few it's no big deal. Don't try and play games or kiss ass and you'll be fine. Plus he's sarcastic and funny
VERY COCKy. Many quizez, tests are easy but he tricks you with unfamiliar one or two questions. he's not too fast or slow, nice teaching method.. but he's somewhat hard, harsh grader of all time, get everything right on any problems!!~ no partial credit points none sense
Not so good, quiz everyday (Hard ones too). He's a pretty average teacher in general, but the problem is how he explains everything, he doesn't give you the reasoning why you have to do these things so you never know what to use when, not a great choice for the average student.
Nice guy,not a good teacher. Tests arent too hard so if you have experience prior to class you should be fine.
Mr. Jimenez ROCKS! A great teacher. I HATE math but he's helped me out so much. You actually learn with him. Shows everything step by step. Gives quizzes everyday but if u actually paid attn in class u'd pass EASILY. I'm really horrible in math and I passed with a B. Very helpful, highly recommended
teaches well but kind of tricky on the exams.
his tests suck. He gives you a long problem, which makes you have to know all the concepts or you're screwed. You have to remember everything in his class. He's also a pretty tough grader.
EXCELLENT TEACHER! I highly recommend him for Math 7! He taught us exactly what we needed to know without a bunch of fluff! I actually enjoyed going to his class; he's very helpful and straight forward. Math 7 doesn't get easier than this guy.
I dropped the class after 4 weeks. He would come to class and rush like a maniac and then let us go home early. He did not allow questions. He's one of those teachers that assume that you know everything from H.S and that you're just reviewing...horrible teacher!
Jimenez is a great math teacher for those of us who are not math or engineering majors, but must endure the rigors of calculus anyway. His quizes, though not as difficult as his exams, give you a clear idea what to study for.
Teaches you shortcuts without compromising the foundations of what you need to know. Very clear, explains things step-by-step, funny and self-deprecating, very helpful. Sometimes he can come across as sarcastic, but he's not mean or callous at all. All are openly welcome in his office hours and math lab hours for tutoring and help!
This teacher is the best. His teaching method is a very straight forward one. He does not bore people with a bunch of details.
he is a very interesting teacher, he just doesnt teach out of the book so he can bore you to death, and her throws in a little comedy
Hes a resonable teacher... however, the way he does attendance needs to be changed... MAKE SURE YOU COME TO CLASS ON TIME! or else he will drop you
Nice teacher. Difficult subject and he definitely eases the blow, but he is picky about attendance. He also favors the "good" students. Overall, I highly recommend him for Calculus because he's the best Cal teacher at SMC. Study hard and redo his quizzes!
Took him for both Math 2 and 7. Very good teacher that makes math easy to understand. Study hard and you will do well. Be sure to be on his good side.
he is a great teacher he is not easy but he explains everything step by step and makes the subject easy execelent teacher highly recommended
He's clear, but doesn't teach in such a way that you grasp how Calculus works in real life. His daily quizzes are great to keep you up to date on the material. He gives practice exams, which are very helpful and is a nice guy in general, but tends to be a hardass w/ tests and grading as well.
best damn math teacher ever in smc. Take him. Study hard, Youll get the A
I got an A in his class. he is a nice Guy ...Quize everyday..Helpful.....i was a lazy guy, i never did home work, but i do reviewed before class start.
He really takes his time explaining things. Be sure do redo the quizzes and you will do good on the test. If he sees that your trying he will give you the higher grade. just be on his good side. don't be late to class
simply the best!!!
Very nice guy when he wants to be. Looks serious but he's really cool. Quizzes daily but its sooo helpful in exams so make sure you review probs cause they do show up again in exams. Easy to learn math 7 but a bit harder in math 8..still good enought to pass if you're willing to work for it. Fair grading. Highly Recommended :)
Prof. Jimenez is just awesome! He's a great teacher. So far I've taken him for all my math classes. The daily quizzes sound like a pain but they're actually helpful because he reviews step by step and if you study them for the tests then I guarantee an A or B. He's laid back and very funny and he knows his stuff. Just pay attention and u'll do good
Great teacher! Doesn't make you do homework, but usually if you don't do it you won't pass his class anyways.
taking class in 7.oo in the morning is kiling me specialy when you have to take the damn quiz everyday.
hi is a wonderful teacher.
This teacher is just awesome! Very very helpful, clearly describes specifically what work needs to be done and how to do them. This class will be hard if you don't do your homework, so make sure you DO THE HOMEWORK and you'll do just fine. He's very understading, and has a great sense of humor. Just Excellent!
I took Math 7,8. I got 2 A. I never read the textbook. Just listen to him and if u undestand lecture, you will be fine. However, you should do the homework. For math 8, there will be a lot of formulas. For Math 8, Half people dropped. It's not because he's bad. The material is not easy, and they didn't study.
Professor Jimenez is one of the best math professor's I've ever had. He is very clear and you will definatly learn. He doesn't assign any homework but you will have more than a few quizes. I can also say that he is very helpful.
oh my God, he is the best professor ever, he knows how to teach and he doesn't go beyond the things that u need to learn and make u confuse. he is such a gentelman, nice and helpful. just take the class with him.
BEST TEACHER EVER! I was not so good in math and because of him I totally understand math. I recommend him to anyone struggling with math cause he will make everything very clear and understandable. He is truely the best teacher I have ever had in SMC. He knows what he is talking about and he really cares. Just do the he and youll be fine.
Excellent professor and great human being. May come off as strict or intimidating at first but he's soft inside. Quizzes almost every day but they are extremely helpful for exams. Very fair grading and very clear lectures. By far one of the best calculus professors on campus. Highly recommended.
This professor is amazing. He's very clear about what he expects from his students, and his quizes are invaluble for his exams. His math 2 class is very straight forward, math 7 and 8 require more study to do well in, but there is no reason you should not get at least a "B" if you put forward effort worthy of a higher math class. Take him.

BEST teacher I have taken at SMC. Knows all the material and teaches some methods that are clearer and better than the book's. Everyday quizzes are easy if you take notes and do the homework. There are no surprises on the tests. If you don't understand something, he is very approachable and willing to help you. TAKE PROFESSOR JIMENEZ'S CLASS!!
This guy is good at teaching and loves what he does. I hated taking a quiz every day but you get used to it. The best advice I can give you is to go to class, listen, take notes.
You get a quiz everyday, his tests are cumulative and "interesting" but he prepares u 4 them. If u relly want to learn the subject take this professor but u'll get around a B if u study, u'll get an A if u r a nerd, it is also very easy to get a C if u make careless mistakes in his tests.
Bets math professor ever. Anyone who talks negative on him was probably cuz they were lazy and didnt study. He is approachable and will grade you fairly. I walked in the final with a 73% and ended up with a B. I probably did good and if he notices ur trying and ur near the higher grade, he will give it to you. He drops 2 exams at most. Take him!!!
Took in summer. Very clear, very organized teacher. Makes Math easy to understand. Daily quizzes is worth 10% and they're pretty tricky if just because of the time limit. Exams are very straight-forward. No trick question. If you do the work, you'll be more than okay. 3 exams 30% each.
the bes teacher i hav ever had ... he is really nice helpful and funny.... i really recommened u to take his class...
ughhhhh, ratemyprofessor could not be trusted, seems all the ppl with bad grade w/ him do not leave a comment! his summer cls is terrible, assumed evry1 memorized all math2 material, does not even review them at all, instead he used the time to dismiss the cls early by an hr min evryday... bad grader...!!!
The best math professor ever! He prepares you for Calculus very well! if you want an easy A don't take him! However if you want to really learn math and you are heading to math 7 and 8, take him! His lectures are very clear. If you are confused he will go over the material with you at your own pace.
if you are aweful at math i wouldn't recommend him. if you're okay at math he's your man. he explains things very quickly, but if you can keep up he's great. though i hated having to take this class, i thought it was a great learning experience.
I really satisfied taking his class before. One of thing is so excited, he loves sports so much especially Lakers. Dude, what are u waiting for? Even some dummy bud drop the class, you should not care about that. Then you might be get a A, seriously.
He is really good at teaching. If you don't understand the subject he'll work with you and do examples with you. Don't have to turn in HW but it is recommended to do it so that it's easier to learn the subject.
Although he does not collect it, Do the homework! and you'll be fine. Also ask questions when he asks about the prior day's HW. Easy B. Don't know why so many people are failing. He is also very strict on attendance, he will drop you in a heartbeat and won't let you know, letting you find out on your own when the semester is over.
Nice teacher. If you do your homework you will pass the class. I suggest doing the hw and not missing a lot of class. The only reason I started to struggle was because I missed a few days and slacked off on hw. He still gave me the benefit of the doubt though and passed me. Nice guy
great teacher. doesnt waste time.
Daily quizzes point out what you should work on. He seldom hands practice tests prior test-days. Exams are mostly questions from the quizzes. He is open to dialogue and jokes in class. Lets the class go early sometimes. Strongly recommended professor. Don't forget! This is math and you're gonna have to study hard with any teacher to get an A.
good teacher. If you want to learn take him. NO BS out of him. He's Clear and Helpful. Makes you want to come to class and learn.
He's a really nice guy. His class is fun to be in. He cracks jk's every now and then. He's a great math teacher. Makes things REALLY clear. But you will have to pull your own weight! No BS with this guy. He will drop you QUIK if you mess around. By far one of the best teachers SMC has!!! TAKE HIM!!!
Great teacher and very easy. Doesn't drop any tests or quizes, but gives enough of them that your grade never depends on just one. He was made fun of the way I speak once, though, and it made me very upset. I don't like his personality or his sense of humor. Still, though, I would take his class again. He's a good teacher.
He was an awesome teacher. He gets right to the point, makes sure nobody is confused, and you're out of there with an occaisional joke. He taught at Garfield Highschool in the heart of East LA for 13 years so you cant mess around with him. He knows how to crack the whip when necessary.
His exam is really easy, I still cannot understand why half of class had F in the first exam. He is a nice person and good teacher BUT if you are a heavy sleeper, forget about this class. This class is in 6:45 AM!!!
Great Professor. He gave us lots of practices which are helpful to prepare us for the exam. if you have a chance, take him.
He is a very good teacher only because his lectures are clear and he keeps you on your toes waiting for a quiz. Every day he says "PREPARE for a quiz tomorrow" but you might or might not get one. very straight forward, must attend class otherwise you get dropped. I would take him for all my math classes if I could.
Does anyone know what materials are necessary for his class? Like scantrons, study guides, and so on.
Mr. Jimenez is such a great professor! He really knows Math and knows how to teach his students. I like this professor so much. He is super helpful. His exams are not that hard, just pay attention to class and his notes and you will be fine. Highly recommended!!!!!
Simply Amazing. He teaches well.. gives challenging homework.. the exams are fair.. extremely helpful. Overall I was pretty happy after taking calculus with him. Either take him or Askarian. I transferred to UCLA as a Math-Econ major and thought that this was one of the best classes I had in SMC
There is no other choice without him. The best teacher in the world is in SMC. His lecture is so clear to everybody and he has sence of humor. We had 24 quizzes and 6 tests at last semester. It seems to make you so tired, but you will realize that you are master of calculus, and you never forget this stuff. I got A both math 2 and 7.
This is the worst and meanest professor in SMC. I don't get why so many people like him. thinks he's the best and his jokes are nonsense! He's very hard, tricky exams, no half credit so you better get the answer right. lots of quizzes which are hard. not recommended if you have a life. stay away from Prof Jimenez class or you will regret it!
This guy is NOT what everyone says. He IS mean, VERY sarcastic, gives very difficult quizzes and homework. He doesn't like going over homework- allows for only 5 questions every class. If you ask him questions during the exams he takes off points. Just think twice before signing up for him.
I have taken 3 of his classes? Why becuase he is the BEST math teacher. He explains everything better than the textbooks. He is very helpful, you can ask him questions before and after class, you get credit for showing your work on the exams. If you want the A you have to earn it!
jimenez is the best teacher in the world. you look forward to going in class.hes really funny. he makes math seem so simple.n yes there are alot of quizzes.but if u do the hw u'll b fine (plus theyre only 10% of ur grade, basically attendance) and they serve as good study guides. test r NOT tricky. they r almost the same problems on the studyguides
Wow, you know, I had no idea how bad this teacher was until I took him. Its enough that this is my 3rd time taking this class, I really had no clue how mean and unfair he really is. Every student who says he is the best are all liars. He is really is the worst teacher I have ever had. Tests are TOO hard. Expect quiz after quiz everday.DONT TAKE HIM
The worst teacher ever! And this is simple math class. I've never known a teacher that took great pride in failing his students. He is mean and unprofessional. Do NOT take him if Math is not your subject. I made a huge mistake.
Horrible human being, horrible teacher. Don't be fooled by the high ratings. Please listen to me if you want to pass with at least a C. Good luck even trying to get a D.
Do NOT take him. There is a reason why students fail his class, and it isn't because he is a "tough" grader. Its because he isn't a fair grader. Oh, make sure you get the correct answer or else he'll make you feel stupid. I hated being in his class. Take Terry Green instead.
I had this professor for Geometry. If your a lazy student you will never pass this class. If your planning to major in Engineering, this professor will teach you discipline. Yes, he wants the right answer and he expects you to write everything correctly. As long as you do your work, you will pass the class. He is very organize in his lessons.
Professor Jimenez is the best!!! Math was confusing and difficult, now it is simple and understandable. Hoestly, the people who failed are the ones who didn't do their hw. I always did my hw and got an A. I would take him for all math classes if I could. I would say half the class failed, and it wasn't the professors fault. Absolutley the BEST!!!
The people who like him are apparently the same person. I know at least 5 students who complained non-stop of his teaching methods and how hard of a grader he is. Not collecting homework is not normal and should always be given credit. And his attitude needs some work too.
I did all of my homework and still got a 69%, which is a D, therefore I have to retake the class. He should not be a teacher period. I can't believe I thought he was different.
Best Math teacher ever! His lessons are straight forward & crystal clear. The quizzes are from the previous lesson/notes. The exams straight from the quizzes. He answers any HW questions. So if u didn't pass its ur OWN fault. If you want an A get 90%;80%for a B & so on. He can sound mean, but it is called sarcasm! This is college, not high school.
My favorite math teacher so far. His clarity is by far the best aspect of his class. Gives quizzes 2-3 times per week but I found them helpful. Doesn't collect homework but it would be hard to get an "A" without doing it. Will drop you if you are constantly absent. Easy tests, similar to quizzes. "A" is very possible with a decent amount of effort.
Not happy with my C. Average teacher. Not the greatest if you actually want to learn math. Pass on this teacher. Take Green.
Precalc is not an easy class no matter who teaches it, but this professor is definitely one of the better ones. His sarcastic sense of humor keeps the class interesting and he clearly knows his stuff. Tests really aren't tricky but do the HW. Strict attendance policy. Recommended.
Okay first of all, to all you people who gave bad ratings to Prof. Jimenez are tripping! He is an amazing teacher who literally knows how to teach. He is so far one of my favorite teachers, not because he is easy, but because his lectures are crystal clear. In order to pass the class you must take notes and pass all quizzes. Trust me its worth ur $
love him!!! amazing teacher, he is nice and funny and understands that people taking finite are horrible at math; thus, he is lenient on grading and helps you out (if you are deserving). Never be late or show attitude, those are his biggest pet peeves. He made me feel bad about not liking math, that's how good he is!
Professor Jimenez is one of the best Math teachers at SMC. You will learn alot in his class. Its not an easy class and he will make you work for your grade but because of his class I am ahead in my Math 20 class. Green is a cool guy but if you want to really learn something take Jimenez!
Prof. Jimenez is the best math teacher of SMC. His teaching techniques are extremely helpful and would make you understand the material, even better than the one shown in the textbook. He is not an easy teacher, but he is willing to help you pass. I wish that Prof. Jimenez would've thougth Math 20 but he doesn't no more :(
Cant explain the material at all. talks alot of bs during class when he could be explaining it to the people that dont understand
Jimenez is a great prof. i took him for math 84 and i learned soo much!I am horrible in math but he explains everything clearly. we have quizzes everyday but theyre helpful & get u prepared for the tests.I am now takin him for 31 & even tho im not a good math person, i am doing good in the class. he's the best math teacher I've ever had!!
this professor is cool, tests are straight forward, quizzes every day, highly recommended
this is the best professor ive ever had. extremely clear and very very helpful i loved him and i hate math with a passion
he's good..but WAY overrrated by people
This guy knows everything, at the same time he doesnt know what hes talking about! He gets a different answer from the book and he says its the same, isnt it? and then he conects his answer to the book answer in a way that no-one would imagin!!! He gets quizes almost every day, homeworks are not so important, but if u want a good grade, do it!
Looked at ratings online. Enrolled in class. Was the worst decision I have ever made thus far at SMC. You might risk your GPA by enrolling in his class.
This is honestly the best professor at SMC. All u have to do is the homework and go over your notes in order to get an A in this class. Quizzes 2 to 3 times a week. Comes strait from the homework. They are EXTREMELY helpful for the exams. Homework is not mandatory, but you HAVE to do it! The best professor.
I hate, hate, hatttteee math. And when I found out that finite math contains algebra I thought, "god I have to get a tutor again". Professor Jimendez has designed the class so that all you have to do is your homework so you can pass your quizzes, and once you pass the quizzes the tests are just like the quizzes and you are sure to pass the class li
I've taken many math professors and math is definitely not my strong area but he is great teacher. Much clearer than the rest. 5 Tests 60% 1 Final 30% Quizes 10%. Test are hard because he gives sparse partial credit and is very harsh on algebraic error and few questions.BUT no proofs! He knows that "Not everyone is a math major". I'm retaking him.
Professor Jimendez has designed the class so that all you have to do is your homework so you can pass your quizzes, and once you pass the quizzes the tests are just like the quizzes and you are sure to pass the class like how I did. Great teacher I definitely recommend him.
He's not the BEST math teacher out there, however he does a very good job preparing you for exams. He doesn't show all of his work during lectures so you have to do homework or at leat redo your quizzes for practice. Not a hard class in retrospect.
A great teacher with a great strategy in teaching mathematics. Not only Calc1, but also Calc2. Great one, take him.
Jimenez is a awsome prof! he really explain everything for you to understand it. he can be sarcastic so that makes it fun. && hes not those kind of profs who are intimidating so if youre in doubt about something ask && he'll be there to help. oh he doesnt collect or grade hw only quizzes && tests but his class isn?t that hard so highly recommend=)
He's the God of math!!! This guy is absolutely brilliant. I admire him greatly. He's just so knowledgeable and sweet, every h.w. problem we asked him to do, he got it perfectly correct. When you talk to him, you realize he has been thro a lot and has such empathy, it's beyond belief. He's AMAZING. Everybody <3s him. He's so dedicated and sagacious
it's definitely an easy A class. don't bother crashing the class 'coz you won't get in
I took him for stats, which i had taken before and didnt pass. Math is not my subject, but he made so understandable! He is a great prof. Tells it like it is and helps on everything.he's great to talk to too. He tries he's best to teach his students everything but in terms they an understand. take his class!
Best teacher ever! He is strict but really fair if you work hard. He made me passionate about math and I really hate math. If you like a hard but fair teacher he is your best bet. He gives quizzes every class but they end up being great study guides for the exams. He does not tolerate lazy students tho.
Wow wow wow, be very carefull with that guy.He might be ok comparing with other instructors and the seriousness of his subject, but all the gud rating outhere is absolutly irrelevant and exexaggerated. For me he is just a weak teacher who thinks that he is the best. His explanation and his quizes or testes are not familiar to each other.caution!!
Dude way over rated by people. This guy used to be a good prof like prof. Rodas who teaches math as well, but right now he sucks!!! He makes fun of every person in class, does not answer your question and make fun of you because of asking it!!! This guy thinks he's the best, but he's NOT!!! He's not helpful and his class become worse and worse!!!
I was an A student when I took math 2.For his class I worked hard to crash it and I end up being crushed in less than two weeks by getting Test1$2F&F respectively. If there is any chance to avoid him use it,because you cant afford to jeopardize your GPA that easy.He doesnt communicate with students individually and he got high passion to injure grad
This guy is a freak!!! He does not help you with the proofs...lives them if their hard and tell you to do it by your own!!! He does not help you with materials and thinks that he is da best in math!!! Does not care about students and you wont find him in his office hours or any where else!! This guy ruined my 4.0 gpa!! DON'T...JUST AVOID HIM!!
I waited to take this guy bcoz I thought he was one of the best ones at SMC. Turns out he is just one of those overrated profs. His class was quite difficult due to his laziness to teach more than what benefits him. He doesn't seem to be passionate about math, seems he is only teaching just to pay the bills. Can also be very condescending and rude.
Not helpful. His lazy eyes makes him look like he is high or something. I couldn't believe that someone rate this professor good; specially for math 7 and up. I couldn't agree more that calculus requires hard work, however instructors like this would make the subject 10times harder than it suppose to be, and jeopardize grade willingly.
I took prof. jimenez last summer for finite mathematics. he didn't seem really enthusiastic, but was clear and answered qestions. hw isn't mandatory, Gave out quizzes daily, but they really helped. dropped people with lots of absences/tardies. he usually released the two hour class an hour or more early and curves grades, higher and lower.
Mr. Jiménez is the sweetest man EVER! + a great professor. He is always willing to help if you show interest. He doesn't collect homework, however he expects you to practice and study. He is really clear and funny too. Take him, u won't regret it ;)
I tried taking his class this Fall semester. I only lasted 2 weeks. He is a hard grader. He gives tests everyday and doesn't give credit for homework assigned. He moves through teaching sections of the textbook fast. If you try him, please take the class seriously, ask questions in class (if you have any) and study hard with or without a tutor.
I don't know him in Math31,54, or even 2...But I had my Math7 with him, got a B and all of it was because I did great on my final. Then I took Math 8 with him...way harder!! He didn't put that much effort on it. Also, tests were a lot harder, which made him to get some make up test so that the class curve comes up!! Overall, he's getting worse.
He's ok, but not that good!! Among all of the profs in smc for math, he's just OK!! His tests are hard, no hw, and also all day quizes.
6 exams and everyday quizes.doesn't drop anything and no homework. the exams are super hard and he gives no partial credit. this semster he had to take a make up so the average goes up.a lot dropped and more than half got c and lower overall bad teacher wil not recommend. his final was so hard that someome got seizure and passed out.i got b
Explains the concepts incredibly well, but isn't helpful at all! I got an A by studying at least 6 hours a day, every single day. By far the hardest class I have ever taken. 6 exams, but very do-able tests. You have to study almost every day for this class if you want an A though. Final surprisingly pretty easy though for math 7, multiple choice.
Jimenez ROCKS.The breakdown: no "sympathy", no favors, you won't get spoon-fed. What you WILL get is incredible instruction for math - specifically, he's crystal clear; strips math down to its simplest terms & that's all. Nothing extra. Just math. he's funny as heck! Dry. Don't take the wrong way. He's a paper tiger if u work hard! Take him!LOVE!
im not sure why he teaches math8 at some elementry level like math20! compare to other math teachers, you dont learn stuff that you need to know for furthur math classes! he makes it super simple that once u go to higher math classes you automaticlly tell your self FML!!! DO NOT TAKE
Very clear in his lectures, but NO opportunities to boost your grade. All exams have very few problems so it is easy to do poorly if you make a few errors. No credit for HW as it is not collected- I worked hard and did not get the grade I felt I deserved in the end.
I had to work extremely hard in his class to get my A. But honestly, he's definitely one of the best math professors at SMC. Compared to UC Berkeley's Calculus course, this is a JOKE!(My friend showed me UCB's calc exams) I know you must feel stupid as I did but you just have to deal with it. Work your tail off by studying every day and earn the A.
Awesome teacher! I'm horrible at math HORRIBLE. He made it clear and easy to understand. He also gets that most people taking Math 21 are never going to set foot in a math class again and that it's prob not our best subject. Funny sense of humor too. Quiz everyday, use these to study for exams, everything is repeated in some way. Super helpful!
Not Helpfull at all. Grading is unfair. DO not take this teacher
He can't explain the material at all. Talks alot of bs during class when he could be explaining it to the people that don't understand. Avoid him!!
Jimenez is awesome! I had failed math 31 in summer with another teacher and had to repeat it. This guy made math easy. I really never did the hw, but his daily quizzes helped me a lot! take him hes funny nice, and very helpful. Just dont get on his bad side!
Great teacher! I took him for winter session & did pretty well considering that i hadnt taken math in over a year. Great at lectures & explaining problems step-by-step. Loved him! :D
Seems like an easy teacher at first, I had a B+,but it all goes downhill towards middle of semester. If you are good at math, he is ok, but if you are horrible like me, take another teacher. He expects you to already know some material.2nd time taking math 31, I had a C, but the final messed me up and I got like a 68-69%.Have to retake a 3rd time.
He might be a tired teacher, but he is so logical and helpful. For example he teaches by homework. You can ask him during the class if some problem was unclear and he will explain it. His tests are all based on daily (!!) quizes and homework. Pay attention to that if you want to get an A. Overall an interesting class!
good teacher, pretty chill, just wants his students to show up for class i think. he doesnt mind answering questions during class and at least one day a week youll get out early.
I took him for winter session, and despite the pressure of 6 weeks, he was a consice and clear prof. starting with hard subjects and going over them step by step to by the end teaching the already taught stuff to make it easier for students. His tests come from the quizzes he gives and he made me love, yes, love math.
To start with he does not make math any easier. He doesnt explain it any clearer than the math book. His test are completly different from the examples he gives you and expects you to know them. If you are not good at math and need more clarity and help do not take him it will make you hate math more and fail the class. Has really high standards.
Hands down.. must take Jimenez! Not going to lie your going to have to do the homework thats the key to acing his class. He has daily quizzes which helps you prepare for his tests. His tests are super straightforward if you do the homework and redo all your quizzes your set. He knows what he's doing. Def going to Take him again for math 8.
Grew to love Big Ben. Pleasant guy who went through the course fast so attendance is pretty important. Not easy if you dont want to put the effort in...
took summer course, got an A. Awesome teacher, really flexible all youhave to do is try. go to class on time. re-do quizzes for tests. Quiz and test questions are way more simple and easier than the hw problems in the book. He goes over the hw.
Took him for the summer. For 6 weeks we covered some of the textbook. He makes the Material very easy to understand, if you redo quizzes and do the hw, the test will be a breeze. He has a sense of humor too. The class was very simple. Good professo too.
Prof. Jimenez is the best math teacher I've ever had. He goes over any questions you have from the hw and teaches you the most efficient way of solving the problems. If you ever need extra help go to his office hours. During one on ones he is incredibly patient so you can learn the material. His tests are straight forward as long as you do the hw,
Jimenez best math professor at smc. He is very helpful and clear when it comes to his lectures. I highly recommend this professor for any math. Too bad he doesn't teach math 20 :/
Being consistently late and absent will get you dropped. Other than that, he is a straightforward and jovial professor. I'm terrible at math and I got a B in the more homework intense Winter session. Gives very easy to understand & thorough lectures. Gives excellent exam reviews, and his homework assignments are key to passing his quizzes & tests.
Jimenez is an excellent lecturer . The way he explains the concept of calc is absolute crystal clear. He can be lazy sometimes. Daily quizzes but the tests were extremely difficult last semester. 70% of the class failed one of the tests and he didn't do anything about it.Test questions very tricky. BTW, he loves to use trig functions.
Very HARD! It is impossible to get an A with any mistake!! I got A from Math2(Mcgraw) and Math7(Taka)BUT I got F in the first exam from this guy! I set up everything correctly but I just did wrong in calculating (arithmetic)then I got F! No drops, no make ups and no extra credits. 7 exams plus final. Only 3 Qs in 1 exam, 2 mistakes can make you F.
One of the greatest professors I've ever had. Made mathematics fun to learn.
I actually liked him but taking his class at 7 am was a big mistake. Doesn't collect homework and since the class was only an hour long, he really didn't have enough time to properly explain the material. Quizzes and tests weren't impossible but he likes to make them tricky. Would not recommend his 4 day a week class; classes were too short.
Gooooooooood Class. So clear lectures easy test and quiz. doesn't check the homework but doing homework definitely helps you to get an A. Take him and be happy. lol
His lectures are quick and clear, make sure to read the book and do the hw, study the quizs that are given almost everyday and you will do fine.
I took his Finite Math class and completed it very recently. I got a B in his class. He's excellent at elucidating the subject matter and does a great job of preparing you for his exams. He has you do quizzes nearly every class session. Use them to study for the exams. They helped me so much. He's a really cool guy. Take him. You won't regret it.
Took winter session course and got a B with very little effort. Could have easily gotten an A, but you actually have to study a bit for that. He gives a lot of quizzes with almost exact same questions used for exams. Use them. Seriously. Take advantage of going over hw. Oh, and don't miss class. He's not too cool with it. Pretty funny guy too.
He is a super cool teacher. He explains things clear. He might look a little intimidating in the beginning, but he is always good and open to help students. Some students want the easy A without working hard. Professor Jimenez will not curve your grade which is a good thing because you will earn what you deserve. Overall, best math professor at SMC
Very helpful teacher! Every time I needed help he would care enough to stay a couple minutes after class and help me. He posts grades up in the classroom so that we know exactly what grade we are receiving. The lectures are organized and he very clear. THERE ARE QUIZZES EVERY DAY!!! NEVER BE LATE OR ABSENT!!!
I really grew to appreciate Prof. Jimenez throughout the semester. He genuinely cares about what his work, extremely clear lectures, daily quizzes, exam for every chapter which is great in my opinion, and he is willing to spend the entire lecture going over hw questions for u to succeed. Take him you won't regret it! But don't slack!
very rude. takes off major points for minor problems and wont negotiate. most frustrating part of it all was that he'd let entire class out early almost every day, so he skips a lot important material and won't go in depth. doesn't prove any theorems. exams were straight of the hw and quizes were pretty rough. but sometimes does take home quizes
He's a fair teacher. Sarcastic/dry humor. No partial credit on quizzes/tests. But the quizzes/tests are very easy, IF YOU STUDY AND DO YOUR HW like a STUDENT should! Playtime can come after. A few of the EASY hw questions are on the quiz and the test is very similar to the quiz and PLEASE read the questions CAREFULLY. So go figure.
He is a nice person overall but his exams were unbelievably hard. He would choose homework problems that he didn't even cover. Very harsh grader. Lets you out early everyday. He goes over all the easy steps in class but then the exams are a totally different thing. Very disappointed because of all the good things that I heard about him.
I don't think Professor Jimenez bad teacher, he just does not seem to care about his students enough, nor is he very encouraging. Also, does not give partial credit on exams. Take his class if you are good in algebra, but not because you want to understand calculus. Lets class out early very often and skips sections that he says is "not important"
He takes good notes, but the tests are very difficult. As everyone else mentioned here, he let's his class out very early everyday and doesn't go over all the homework material before we attempt it. My advice is to study every night and ask the tutor for help. That's something I should've been doing all semester. *sigh*
Jimenez is a great teacher. His exams are more than reasonable. He gives partial credit as long as he sees that you were headed in the right direction. I just wish he could teach the rest of my math classes. Honestly if you're an honest decent person who has good work ethic you will do great. If you don't like myself you can still do OK.
I took his winter class. He gives homework, but never collects it. He gave quizzes everyday, but they were easy if you did the homework and listened to his lecture. Even if you do bad on the quizzes, they aren't worth that much of your grade. Study all the quizzes, and you'll pass the tests. You'll get an A if you pass the tests with a good grade.
Attendance is mandatory (he drops if you miss x amount of class). There are A LOT of daily quizzes and A LOT of hw (non-credit), but as long as you keep up with the homework (anticipate a few hours every day) and follow his tips, you'll do well. Very helpful and approachable. Stresses what you need for Math 7. 4-5 Exams & 1 final.
Professor Jimenez keeps it old school. Quizzes every day. He uses this to ensure you keep up with Homework assignments although he doesn't collect HW. Study your quizzes well as they are similar to the exams! He will mark you down for careless mistakes on quizzesexams. If you study and don't slack with chapters, you will do fine.
Do your homework and you'll do well in tests and quizzes. He gives about 25 quizzes and 4 tests with one finals. The quizzes are 10%, tests are 60% and the finals is 30% of the total grade. all the test questions come from the quizzes so it shouldn't hard if you revised them in advance. I'm going to take his class in Math7 again!
I took his class during the summer and got a B. Expect a quiz everyday you meet and normally the quizzes are similar to the tests. Only 2 tests and the final, but dropped a test score (not final) and kept the highest score! He has a tough, but funny character, would totally recommend him!
The tags posted above are exactly what the class is like. He does go over hw in the beginning of class. Hw is not mandatory. When you ask him for help sometimes he'll first insult you then if he does help you and you still don't get it then he'll say: " I want you to think about your life right now!" Kinda cold but at least he teaches well!!!
Took his Finite Math class a couple summers ago. Had NO open office hours which was NOT cool, because the Math Lab doesn't have the best tutors. Kept saying, "Okay?" after every problem he explained. Homework not mandatory, but assigns it everyday like quizzes. He let us out early, but wouldn't give any help if you needed it. Quizzes are helpful.
Professor Jimenez may seem like he doesn't care about you at first, but give him a chance. He puts on a tough exterior, but he's really just a teddy bear. As far as his teaching methods go, homework is essential to passing although it's not turned in. Attendance is a must. He will drop you without notice. Quizzes everyday, how he keeps attendance
do your homework, if you need help ask, he will help. Quizzes are tough and there are quizzes everyday. two tests, will drop first one if you do better on the second. STUDY QUIZZES FOR TESTS, IT HELPS
He teaches very well, do hw ,for hw the last problem are usually hard ,I put them on the board 4 him to do, for his quiz and test, I borrowed my friends test who took him before and studied it , test are simalar to quiz problems. Don't come late to class or he picks on you. Overall fun class even will try to crash for math 8 but he clowns crashers.
He's hilariously sarcastic and fun, however homework is a must! he may not collect it but its the ONLY way to pass his class. Daily quizzes (its how he takes attendance), exams are based on quizzes and homework chapter tests. He's very clear on the material and explains step by step on the problems.
math 8 cannot be great without him! Very clear notes, explanation, (also he present summarizes for each chapters)a lot of quizzes prepare to the tests &help to understand the materials. if you really study/do/understand homework questions, listen the class carefully& ask the questions. Very helpful, friendly Prof! Amazing teaching ! Amazing class!
The best calculus class !!!! The best Professor ! It is the calculus class!! Study and review all semester not to forget materials !!! (never skip homework questions/ always review the materials)Ask your question to him! He is very helpful, very patient! Always he has very clear explanation! All time he is happy to help!I loved his class a lot!
This professor said some words like this" i was dropped some students because they was late to my class , they were international students, and because they're under unit, they got repatriation. BUT, it doesn't bothers me at all, i might save this country".
he's rude
He does not collect the homework, but I would recommend that you do it because some of those problems he uses on the quizzes and similar ones on the test. Let's say you got a C for the 1st exam and get an A for the 2nd, he will replace that grade for an A. He gives you an "opportunity test". Final is cumulative. He is funny.
If you do homework, you can get A.
Homework is not mandatory, but you should do everyday. If you do, you can get A super easily.
Professor Jimenez is fantastic! I loved taking his Pre-Calculus class in Fall '17. His lectures are excellent and he has a great sense of humor. Very clear syllabus. There was a replacement exam at the end of the semester; the score received on it could be substituted for the lowest exam score. I really hope I can take him again!
Horrible teacher. Doesnt understand anyones logic except for their own. Is extremely judgmental
The guy is a dope teacher. Math is a hard subject it's meant to kick your ass so this class will be hard no matter what. But this professor will help you if you help yourself, do all homework and the harder problems at the end of homework you should try to learn at his office hours as those will be complex enough to make it to the exam.
Prepare yourself for 24 quizzes. If you are averaging B on your 2 exams and did bad on the third. And you think you somehow did well on the final. Prepare yourself for a grade of F too. This teacher will cut off points a lot just because your answers are not perfect enough.
He is indeed a tough grader, but I think he is a solid choice if you want to learn. He may seem very unapproachable at first but he is very patient and is willing to help you if you are willing to help yourself. Also, lets say you got a bad grade on the first test, if you do better on the second one he will drop that grade. Overall good choice!
Jimenez is both hilariously serious and extremely knowledgable. The way he teaches math is a an analogical synthesis of all previous maths so it looks like magic during his lectures. He has the ability to be intensely harsh, but he really empowers the students to learn their stuff. The short quizzes are perfect study guides for the tests
Now that I have almost completed Math 7, I can say he did not prepare me as well as he could have. he is retired so I feel as if he does not provide as many examples as he could. He is also a very tough grader, I got 1/11 points on a problem for not writing "1+2+3.." and the entire problem and procedure was correct. Okay prof, would recommend other
Professor Jimenez was a great professor. At first, I found the course difficult but after some time and making sure I stayed on top of the homework and used the worksheets and quizzes to study, I started feeling more confident and understanding. He is very straight forward and funny but will answer any question you have and is patient.
Hes awesome. This class was real easy for me. He has small tests every class day however I found this to be very helpful because his exams mimic the tests. If you are on top of it and do the homework assigned (however you dont need turn it in) you will do well in the class. He is also a very funny guy.
He's my favorite math professor here at SMC. He really cares and enjoys teaching Trig and will answer any questions you have. His quizzes can be tough, but he gives ample time to do them and they help you understand the material better. You have less time to do the tests, but if you understand the material on the quizzes, you should be fine.
