Mr. lohman is a very good teacher your are not going to buy him with a sweet sexy smile. He very helpfull and very understandable and it makes the class more fun I love it ,he is a great professor.

In love with American Idol. Tests are super-easy. Essays are okay and he is an okay grader. Class is a fun experience though. He's young and modern. Spunky. BTW, also 1 of OCC's Speech Team coaches.

He is so dreamy!!! His class is fun and he has a great sense of humor. He grades easy as long as it looks like you put time into your speech. The class becomes your friends because of all the speeches you have to do in front of them. Very fun and probably the best speech teacher.

Ben is a very nice Mid-West type of guy. He explains everything and is a pretty easy grader- just do all your tests and speeches. The tests come right out of the book- which is at a 2nd grade reading level. Nice teacher.

I took this class because it was required but I had so much fun I am considering a major in the subject. I am also thinking about joining the debate team. He really knows how to lighten the mood and put you at ease. He uses a lot of banter so be prepared to be teased a bit. The class was easy too.

Lohman is one of the best professors I've had. He has a great sense of humor and is really in touch with the generation he is teaching to. The classes are fun and easy to follow, and I actually found myself looking foward going. The tests are a little difficult, but if you show up to class and keep up with the easy reading you can easly get and A.

Best teacher I've had yet! Fun, interacts and really motivates you to speak and become a better speaker. I had a great time in his class and actually felt like I gained something useful from it. Take this class with Lohman, aside from the fact that he's a great teacher, he grades very easily and lets you leave early for "library time."

Really, if you do not take his class you would be making a big mistake. He is very funny always makes you laugh and you feel very comfortable in class within a couple weeks. I always hated doing speeches but I would say I am more open to it now since taking his class.

There are five exams, one short paper, no cumulative final, and lots of laughter. If you don't ace this class or laugh in it, there is really something with with you.

Great professor! One of the reasons I'm interested in majoring in comm later. I took it just to fulfill a GE, but the class was so interesting - it's everything that relates to us today, like TV, books, newspapers, etc. One research paper required, five multiple choice tests, and a final. Read the book and study his lecture notes - easy A.

i thought he was hot. hes a great teacher. made the class interesting the whole time. although doing public speaking did suck, youd get over it. played fun games and got a high grade for it.

Very funny and smart guy. Fun class, laugh all day. Even though you'll have to give speeches in front of the class, but in his class you feel comfortable to stand up to speak. You'll enjoy coming to class. For exam make sure to read the book. He'll randomly throw in some extra credit, unpredictable.

TOO EASY!!!! I wanted a challenge and it was not there. I aced this class with such ease. Take your notes and look them over before the test. I rarely looked at my book. But there are people successfully getting an F in the class which I can't understand. Maybe this stuff just comes to easy to me.

Mr. Lohman's an awesome guy. He makes the class a very comfortable environment. You will hate giving speeches in his class, but once you do it, you'll get used to it. His tests are very easy. Speeches aren't bad either. You really get something out of his class so take it if you have to.

VERY chill guy. most of his tests are from the notes in class and the readings from your textbook. his class was pretty easy, we watched a lot of movies and got out early.

Ben is SO FUNNY! His lectures are short and to the point, so you will NEVER lose interest in this class. The extra credit he offers is well worth it. I barely studied and got all A's on the tests. Just pay attention in class and write down what he says and you're good to go! An easy A for sure.

I don't know why a lot of people keep saying to just study the lecture notes...because about 1/4-1/2 of the test questions are from the book. I guess it depends on what grade you're aiming for. If you study only the notes, you'll get a C/B-; if you study notes AND do some reading, you'll get a B/A.

Great sense of humor, will call a student out if they are messing around. Need to read each chapter on your own and take notes from the bk as well as class. If you don't read the book you won't get any higher than a B/C. Takes roll everyday. Interesting, entertaining class!

I found Ben to be entertaining & funny.I thought the subject matter would be more fun than it was.He tests seemed very random to me with only 35 questions per test on lots of material(4+ chapters of reading,notes,& movies).It was hard to know what to study, but overal its an easy B class & if you work a bit you'll get an A too. ("TOO SOON?" lol)

Lohman is a hilarious down to earth guy who is engulfed in the communication world. Loves to rave about his favorite TV shows or things that the famous people do that are hilariuos. Always turns on music before class which is really cool. Great guy, great learning expericen, and great course.

Ben is such a funny guy! I always had such a great time in class with his videos, quick lectures, and his witty comments. It's super easy, too. Just skim through the book and read the notes. There's really no reason not to get an A. Hands down one of the best teachers at OCC.

Prof. Lohman is such a funny guy. He likes to liven up his lectures with witty comments and he always always plays great music before class starts. Class was super easy as long as you just studied lecture notes and read the book. VERY generous with extra credit. There shouldn't be a reason why you can't get an A.

Professor Lohman's class was super easy.He showed tons of clips:some entertaining and some super boring.I passed his class w/o doing anything.I mostly slept during his class;however, taking notes and reviewing it before the test will help. He will also hint what is on the test by saying"you should take some notes"therefore you should!

This class is an easy A or B. tests are kind of difficult because you dont know what he will put on there (no review sheet or anything)some test questions are not in the book or in the lecture so its a little unfair. Its possible to get an A though, only if you do a lot of extra credit.

funny teacher. exams are REALLY random. it comes to the point where reading the book would only help you with 2 or 3 problems. questions are based on ppt, the movies he shows, textbook, and verbal lectures. ended up with an 89.4% but he gave me an A. not a class i would study THAT hard for.

Prof. Lohman is awesome! He's not your "typical" professor. He will tell it like it is, in his opinion. Jokster, which makes the class fun, but can get tedious at times. (Lecture Hall - blah) Quizzes are multiple choice, and are from lectures mostly.

By far the easiest course I have ever taken. It's interesting if you're a pop culture and media junkie, but sometimes lectures did feel like they dragged on. There are 5 tests and one annotated bibliography. He's funny in an insensitive way so if you have thin skin, you probably shouldn't take his class.

Great young teacher! Funny to listen to. Likes to have class participation and discussions and relates topics back to current events. Tests are multiple choice, fairly easy, and can be passed by simply attending class and taking good notes.

Lohman is awesome! he gets his point across and he's super chill. I apply that word to one person a year at best. The class is easy if you do what's necessary, and its such a fascinating subject. Aside from being funny, charming, and HOT, Ben is an eccentric professor who knows how to teach. His tests are easy, but only if you take notes in class and at least skim through the assigned chapters (I usually get 85%-93%). There's no study guides, but there's extra credit. You won't get an A if you take it for granted and slack off.

Ben is an AWESOME teacher. He has a very dry sense of humor (which I love) and his lectures are very interesting. The class focuses on the media quite a bit and what's going on right now. His tests were fairly easy (My grades: 85%-97%) and very funny! I always laughed my way through his hidden jokes. I LOVED this class!

Ben is an awesome teacher. I took his class that was 3 hours and stayed awake no problem. He asks questions to interact with the class and shows lots of media, definitely worthwhile to take him if you can, DO IT! With the annotated bib, you can turn it in early he'll grade it and give it back to you. Tests are pretty easy, too.

Just finished this summer class with Ben. He is fanstastic. He helps you with your questions, clarifies your confusions, improves your speaking style in his comments, and constantly motivates you to push yourself forward. You'll feel less and less nervous each speaking opportunity. Your hard work reflects through your grades. So take him now!!!

Lohmans lectures involve material from the textbook, media references through videos, and his wicked sense of humor. Come to class and take notes. If he references something in the book pay attention. If you need a mass communications teacher I suggest you take this one.

Going to his class was like going to a comedy club where the comedian just happened to be talking about Mass Communication. He's freaking hilarious. As much as I enjoyed the class, you do however have to review the weekly lecture notes and read the chapters to get an A in the class He offers 42 points of extra credit throughout the semester

You could definitely earn an A if you take notes and study them. I never bought the book and I literally fell asleep in his class like 85% of the time and missed majority of the notes but I ended up with a C every test from guessing, common sense, and a little notes so if you study and stay awake more than I did, you'll get an A, if not a B.

His tests are easy, just write down ALL the notes and study them and also watch the videos he makes you watch because there are test ?'s from them. No need for book. As a professor, he is obnoxiously talkative & his voice is annoying so it makes it worse. He's a pretty rude person and has a sarcastic sense of humor, he's not as funny as people say.

He keeps the class engaged with his well presented lectures and jokes, includes documentaries as part of his lectures, and gives a ton of extra credit!

Lohman is awesome. He's funny, witty and he gets that COMM shouldn't kill you. You need to attend his class (100 points) and the notes/slideshows are exactly what the exams (5 of them) are drawn from. The book isn't really essential because he pulls the bits he needs onto the slides. The exams are easy. Don't use a cellphone in his class. Fun class

This guy is a great teacher. He is one of the most incredible teachers as far as clarity and is an amazing public speaker ! At first he seems like a pr-ick but if you accept his personality you'll enjoy him! Take notes in class is the BEST advice ! You honestly don't need to read the book because his tests are based off of the lecture notes!

Funny dude. Seems a bit harsh at times though. Interesting class, and he CHANGED HIS ATTENDANCE POLICY. Drops lowest test score instead. You still need to show up, but he'll give you extra credit if you only miss up to 1 full class. Read the book take good notes and you're fine.

Ben's a funny guy, lectures were interesting but could get long and boring sometimes and you need to take notes very quickly, if you ask him to go back, he will give you sass. I didn't use the textbook, I just studied off notes and got a B. There is one paper due, and offers 32 points in extra credit which is a big bonus.

Ben is hilarious! However if you can't handle sarcasm don't take this class. His class is very simple and easy to pass as long as you pay attention. Lohman's chill and has clearly done stand-up. Easy A as long as you show up and just do the assignments. Group project and a paper. Fulfills your writing 2 credit for CSU and this was the easiest option. 95% of the test is lecture, which is provided via PPT. Knock the online assignments/quizzes in less than 10 minutes. Somehow open-book tests

Ben is a lot of fun and for the most part the class is fairly interesting and lectures can be really fun. Lehman is super funny which always helps but sometimes he comes of rude. It's a very interesting class! He is a very good teacher and has a sense of humor and was very passionate about the topic. He gives you 3 diff options for extra credit where you can choose 2 and he gives you 16 points each (boosts your grade a ton). He only allows you to miss 6 classes or he will give you an F!!!

1 of the best teachers Ive taken. Would take more with him if I could. Do the extra credit and just read the chapters he tells you and youll easily get 90%+ on the tests. Got an A and didn't even take the final. He's a movie buff and has concise and easy to understand lectures. Take decent notes on his lectures and skim the book and you'll pass the tests.

Definitely a good and fun class. Would recommend Ben. He knows a lot about his field and I really enjoyed his class. Definitely an easy A if you come to class and listen and take notes, and reading through the chapters a bit for the exams will help as well.

Honestly an easy A. Theres a one week grace period for all assignments other than the group project. If you do the study guide provided for each test, youll pass the exams. Last 2 exams are open book. Multiple chances for extra credit. Did my meta assignment the night before and got an A. Show up to class because it reflects your grade.

This class should be a pretty easy A but I found it hard to get into the lecture/material. I feel like in general we learn more and retain more when we are allowed to interact and have discussions about the material. You aren't really even allowed to talk to him until after class. I'd also wish he'd make his power point available on canvas.

Professor Lohman was awesome overall. Topics discussed in class are interesting and easy to follow along. Homework is pretty easy and some of it is done online. His grading criteria is clear and he gives great feedback. He is pretty funny and class goes by pretty fast. There is one group project that is fun to put together, also a paper.

I LOVE Professor Lohman's class! He's hit that perfect balance between being an incredible teacher (explaining things well/easy to follow), comedic timing, and being an overall cool guy with interesting life experiences that add to the academic experience you get in this course. Taking another class of his this summer - I'm actually hyped!

This professor will make you stronger if you need help with public speaking. He is very strict and fair. He is no nonsense and has a great sense of humor. He will care more about you after you show him true effort in the class. Don't make dumb mistakes--he will remind you of what those are frequently so pay attention to every word he says.

One of the best professors I have ever seen. He is hilarious and I was always excited to go to his class. His tests are very simple as long as you attended the lectures and read over definitions you would get an easy A. He is also super clear in assignments and tells you exactly what you need to do.

I love the classroom environment Ben creates. It's definitely a lecture course (very little opportunity for student interaction) but there's still a sense of camaraderie within the room. Very nihilistic, in the best of ways. Also, extremely helpful and available for discussion/questions. 5 exams, 1 paper, no hw. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. So worth it.

Slides go to fast, really clear on grading and what he thinks cheating is. Funny dry humor. Hates spoiler alerts. Be really great at notes! And write your name on extra credit for full credit. NOT a fan of questions during lectures.

Took this class this fall semester and Lohman makes public speaking totally bearable. Like most people I have always hated giving speeches, but this class forces you to step out of your comfort zone. If you do the work and show up to most classes you will have no problem passing. Lohman is hilarious, one of the best professors I have had.

6 excused absences, don't talk in class, pretty hilarious and super up-to-date in pop culture, several easy exams if you pay attention in lecture, one project not difficult.

Very smart guy. Impressive knowledge about current culture. Super stimulating and comedic lecture style. Would definitely take this class again, was everything I hoped it would be. Hes sassy to people who ask a lot of questions because this is a huge class.

Ben was a really funny professor. I had him during the switch from in person to online due to COVID-19, but he made the switch really easy. Tests are easy too. A lot of this class is common sense based. Highly recommend taking CMST 180 w Ben!

Great professor, honestly one of the best at OCC. He's very clear on what he expects so really if you just do the assignments, you will pass.

Took media literacy with him and I am happy I stuck with the class. I was worried in the beginning because his syllabus seems rather harsh but don't let that scare you away he is an awesome professor and you will learn a lot. Not difficult as long as you pay attention and do the reading. The assignments were fun and his lectures were great too.

This is a teacher whose ability to educate is not at all thrown off by the move to zoom. Can't recommend him enough. The only thing I'd suggest for incoming students is this: He assigned a lot of reading, says most of his test questions come from the reading. He lies. Majority of the test questions were recycled from quizzes or came from lectures.

2nd time I've taken him and he's still just as great. He's reasonable with work so just make sure you do it and there will be no problem. He gives feedback as long as you give him time too. Make sure you take notes, it will seriously pay off when the quizzes and finals come around. If you need a cool professor that will tell you like it is, he's it

Very cool, laidback professor. We had a mix of recorded lectures and zoom meetings. Make sure you're actually watching his lectures because he threw in a little test to see if students were actually watching. Other than that, his assignments and exams were not too difficult.

He was amazing! Had him a few semesters ago, and I was just remembering how great his class was. He is very interactive and has an amazing personality and genuinely cares about his work and his students. Would take it again if I could!

literally the best professor i've taken at occ. rlly engaging even in a large lecture hall & kept the lectures concise & fun. rlly funny too! only 'homework' was reading the textbook (free) & quizzes, i read only the summaries for each chapter & got an A on every test (tests are extremely easy also). one final paper n that was it. def recommend!

Took him for two classes. Genuinely enjoyed every lecture and was actually a joy to come to class. His class is easy and you will never feel burdened or stressed to do homework or quizzes. It's really a shame if anyone gets anything below an A in this class. Look no further than this rating and take him for an easy A.

Took Lohman on the first semester of my transfer to OCC and he is easily one of the best professors I've had.

Please take Professor Lohman. He is hilarious and is very clear with what he is expecting. The class was big but the way he presented his lectures was very in depth and easy to understand. Don't procrastinate the assignments though. Exams were easy, information directly from the lectures.

Great class and not hard if you follow the syllabus and keep up with the homeworks and lectures.

This was a hybrid class and my second class with professor Lohman. He has a good sense of humor and uses this to make the class entertaining. This is an easy class, if you turn up, listen to what the professor is asking for and then do the work. Not a lot of homework, extra credits are nice and give you a bumper so definitely do them.
