not a bad teaacher, but a lot of writting. 3-600 word essays,2-300 word essays, 4-1 page reader responces, and 1500 word research paper.Ten Quizes on articals in text, MLA quiz, grammar quiz, oral presentation on research paper.
Extremely hard on grading. Very picky about EVERY little thing when grading papers. His lectures are interesting, but drags them out. He gets sidetracked easily. Expects minute details from passages to be remembered.
I went through his class thinking I was going to fail. I ended up passing with a pretty high grade, and I actually did learn alot.
Very rude, harsh grading professor. Likes to critique students on every little thing. Gets upset when asked questions. frustrating. do NOT RECOMMEND
Excellent teacher -hard and disciplined-in order to do good in this class you need to work hard - interesting lectures - a lot of work but well worth it to get a good handle of Eng Comp
I learned more in this class than in all four years of high school combined. It's a hard class, but if you're serious about learning how to write, read and speak on the college level, this is the class and professor to take!
I learned more in this class than in all four years of high school combined. It's a hard class, but if you're serious about learning how to write, read and speak on the college level, this is the class and professor to take!
Excellent professor - class is hard if you are looking for an easy A look elsewhere. You have to work hard in this class to get an A. Professor is very helpful to students who are eager to learn
Horrible professor, NO DESIRE TO TEACH! Makes people read aloud in class. Feels like I was back in 8th grade. I thankfully transferred to MIAMI's Barry University. very satisfied.
if you are looking for an easy a go somewhere else. strict when it comes to grading papers.
He is like a marine teaching Eng Composition. Don't ask a question ,just do as he says . he has to have control over every aspect of his class, including your own notes and how you arrange them. He needs to relax and loosen up. Too tense!
I don't get all of the negative comments. After all, this is college and you are expected to work hard for good grades. I learned more in one semester than in four years of high school. This professor is tough but fair and willing to help students who really want to learn. I would recommend to those who want to get a good handle on college writing.
very strict, fells more like high school than college.
hes full of himself
Hi Professor Rallo ! Have not e-mailed you in quite a long time. Just wanted you to know that I am graduating on May 6th with an Associate in Science degree from the ADN Program and will sit for my RN boards sometime in June. Thank you for all for help and encouragement in English Comp I and II. All the weekly Reader Responses and numerous essays
I am graduating with an AS. Thanks for all your help & encouragement in Comp I & II. The work enabled me to write 6 research papers over 9 mths. I consider myself lucky and fortunate to have had you as a teacher. Please do not ever change your style of teaching or grading. Ask your students if they would like a little cheese with their whine.
Very thankful to have had this Professor for Comp 1 and am looking forward to Comp II. Very disciplined Prof; however, not here to slide by with a "C" or to be GIVEN a grade not earned! He is fair, straight forward with all assignments and there are no exceptions. Willing to help, need to ask and be respectful! All the same "principles" in life!
Thank you for a great start to my college experience. Because of your class I am really enjoying college. Well that's something I never thought I would say!!! If I hadn't taken your class and been taught to keep my work neat and organized I would have a backpack full of papers stuffed and crumpled.
Rallo is a good professor overall. He will bend over backwards to help his students if you ask him. There is alot of work but if you do it, you will in his words "Earn a Respectable Grade".
He is not a good Teacher. He is good with the English language , but not how to teach or encourage students. He ridicules male students, and does not encourage you to ask questions. He talks alot about himself and how good he is. In the beginning of his class he tells you that few students get an "A".
Taking Comp. I with this professor is very useful for preparing to read and write for your entire college career. By employing my newfound knowledge from this class, I am certain to do well and earn respectable grades in all of my classes.Thank you, Professor Rallo!
I valued all the tips, lessons and notes the professor provided. As I read the notes and comments on my corrected papers, I realized the professor's feedback was an important learning tool. I really liked the class, and feel well prepared to write essays and research papers for all my other classes.
He's terrible, arrogant as someone pointed out and expects the class to work way harder than he does. I was very much enthused to find that he was a "gentleman of the old school" but I was very turned off by how much he chided us encouraged us to intuitively SENSE what he wanted us to do on an assignment. Absolutely terrible and unqualified.
I would not recommend this instructor!!! I felt very uncomfortable asking any questions and felt like I was always under attack, then I noticed he treated all of the students the same way. I chose to withdraw from his class and had to pay the tuition back out of my own pocket and I was glad to pay it to get away from him.
all semester i did my own work but on one essay 1 I copied it all from a website i don't think its fare that he gave me an f on the paper and kicked me out the class.
Teacher is a good guy, but insanely strict. Gets mad when you ask him questions or ask him to clarify. Grades way too harshly, too the point where it's insane. Very opinionated and will argue with you on everything.
I just want to thank you so very much for taking time out to help me. Your changes and advice on my college application statements are helping me so much to get accepted into the schools of my choice. I learned so much in your class and I really do appreciate your help.
I really liked the class because I learned a lot more in one semester than I have in my past three years in my high school English classes. The readings and quizzes helped me a lot with comprehension and the essays helped with writing and the structure of my essays. I really like that the professor is always there to help anyone who needs it.
This class has helped me so immensely I cannot thank Mr. Rallo enough. He has prepared me for writing and reading in other college classes and in everyday life. My grammatical abilities have been refined and I'm ready for future classes. I hoped this course may put me on the path to success but I never expected it to be this great a success!
Rallo is an awesome teacher, but strict with his grading. However, it's completely understandable because after all - he is teaching you grammar and how to write a proper paper. There is a lot of work and his personality is 'unique' (to put it nicely) but overall he's a good teacher and I would recommend him to anyone.
I corrected him once, on something he was clearly wrong about, and I paid for it with my grade. He's a good teacher, if you do everything he says exactly as he says, regardless of what is right, however confusing that may be. His lectures are long, repetitive and boring.
He's a great!
Professor Rallo gets the job done, but that's about it. He acts like he is a professor at Harvard but in reality he is a glorified high school teacher. You learn the material, but in an annoying way. We didn't use the text book one time in class. You could barrow a friend's and be okay. Tests are easy, research paper is easy. Lectures are boring.
I disagree. The professor is gracious enough to give students a "lecture packet" that gives students the "main talking points" of the chapters in the text. I know that the credits we earn at PHCC count toward credits in any higher learning institution, includint HARVARD! He's an AWESOME PROFESSOR!
As he says,"Part of being a good college student is knowing where to go to find the answers!" I learned more in 1 semester than in all 4 years of high school. If you can take this professor's course, you'll be glad. He's made such a difference in all of my college classes, and I've "earned" A's on all of my reseach papers, incl. PSY and HUM!
I really enjoyed this professor! Although the material in his class is pretty hard, I managed to pass with a very high A. I learned so much in class than I did in any other class. If you take the time to do the work and actually show up for class, you will pass.
I have been out of school for just over 10 years. I hated going to his class on a weekly basis. His lectures were boring and scripted. He will make you earn a respectable grade. Now that I'm not in his class, he has made the rest of my classes easy! Be prepared for an essay every week, not to mention 3 rhetorical modes and a research paper.
Overall poor experience. Spends too much time prepping his slides for PowerPoint, and spends absolutely NO time interacting or creating a comfortable setting to learn English. Wanted us to write research paper on controversial topic, and told us to watch Fox news or Glen Beck for Fair and Balanced ideas...bias has no place in classroom.
I took your ENC1101 in Fall 2010.You said I needed to make the adjust. from h.s.to college. You kept me from giving up on this semester. I kept thinking about what you said. I got all A's this sem. Thanks for boosting my spirits about college. I have never been an A student before;I'm very excited about this and I'm looking forward to Fall 2011
I Hated this professor. He is cold hearted and rude. If you are are high school student drop it he is rude when it comes to us young children. Because we dont know how to be college students. Ya right. His classes are so boring and worthless. I did not learn anything and honestly he is just a creepy teacher. I really do not recommend him.
ENC 1101 is one of the most important classes you will take in your college career. The course load may seem overwhelming at times, but I have learned a lot from this professor and I'm excited about having him again in ENC 1102.
I took his class as a dual enrollment student, and even though I completely dreaded his class..I really did learn A LOT!! He's a hard grader, but makes you want to prove him wrong and do better! Open book 10 ? tests every week, essay every week, hard grader..research paper and presentation..pretty much all he does is lecture during class!
He was unhelpful what so ever and i didn't learn anything from his class. Grades harshly and is difficult to work with, he talks down to you if you ask questions.
Even if you politely disagree with his beliefs, he will try to make you look like an idiot. I would not recommend him unless you're majoring in English and take it very seriously. If you're like me, and you're just taking the course because it's required, find someone more easy-going.
A lot of work
Class consists of a lot of work. You will read and write an essay weekly. Every week there is a quiz or a test. Research paper and oral presentation is no joke at the end of semester. You're final grade will be made or broken here. Listen to his feedback and learn from it if you want an A! Good Professor! I would take Comp 2 with him as well.
I'm thankful for taking this prof. My friends admit their Eng. class was easy because their prof. only graded content not grammer, spell. punct. etc. They didn't leave their classes with as much knowledge as me. I look forward to taking Rallo for Comp. 2.
I never like to read, but since taking this class with this prof., I find myself reading materials I never thought I would read. It was a very challenging class, but I learned a lot and have a proud sense of accomplishment. This is a REAL college class and good grammar is expected. You will learn a lot - stuff you should have learned in high school
I wanted to improve my writing skills especially punct. I feel much more confident in my writing ability. Prof. is strict but gives very helpful and thorough feedback on essays. I found myself challenged in many ways and these challenges helped sharpen the skills I will need in other college courses.
If you are lazy and want an easy A, go elsewhere. If you are motivated and want to learn everything about writing you should have learned in high school but didn't and want to elevate your writing skills to the college level, take this class with this professor. He's the best! You'll be glad you did
He was a wonderful teacher. He makes you work very hard for your grade but it will pay off in the future. I would have loved to take him again becauase he had clear expectations and was very consistant.
Definitely not an easy class. Consider the mistakes you made and improve, that's how you'll survive. Started off with D's on my essays and ended up with an A in the class. Take advantage of the extra credit. It was hell if you're not an English major, but totally worth it. Was more proud about a B+ on an essay than a 103 on a calc 2 test.
Hard class, but well worth the knowledge obtained.
Very hard teacher, a very hard class. Not much knowledge obtained durning the class, and his views are ones that you should always just agree with. I would give him a D for a grade on teaching.
Very hard. He constantly expresses his opinions all class long and makes you feel stupid when you ask a question. He is an extremely hard grader and gives no extra credit, but a chance to correct essay for an 85%. If you want an A you need to work hard and come every day and turn in every assignment on time or say goodbye to an A in the class.
he believes he is better than everyone else, very inconsiderate of your feelings and ideas, he sets you up for failure for every essay and test. do not recommend this professor.
My opinion of this course is that it is a good way to learn English, only if the person is not lazy. Prof. was amazing, understanding and very kind to students.
I couldn't have asked for a better teacher. Prof. Rallo taught this class very well. Although it may have been hard at times, we all need to be pushed to become better. Over all, this course has helped me a lot to improve my reading, writing and speaking skills.
I ended up really enjoying this class with this professor. He made me appreciate what it takes to write a grammatically correct paper. It certainly made me respect what it takes to "earn" a grade. This class has helped make me a better student and has prepared me for success in future classes.
I liked the fact that I actually got to learn something. There are a lot of instructors who don't care and set their students up for failure. I liked that Prof. Rallo always made sure we knew we could go to him with questions about anything. I can tell he really wants his students to succeed.
I found Professor Rallo very unhelpful, and condescending when I brought him my concerns, he always insisted the answer was "in the book" rather than actually communicating with me. He also said some incredibly obtuse, insensitive comments when a discussion about 9/11 came up in class. All in all, this class is passible, but I didn't learn much.
Any question you ask, he makes you feel stupid for asking. Not helpful in class at all, wouldn't recommend for anyone.
when i first started this class i was truly excited with mr rallo cause he seemed to be truly excited with teaching. As the semester continued i dreaded coming to the class. Whenever you would ask a question he would simply reply look in the book. If you tried to seem him on break he seem uninterested with what you were asking.
I enjoyed this class with this prof. He has a strict way of teaching and I think that is a good thing because some students need that extra push to help them realize the importance of good writing and proper grammar. Overall, I was very satisfied.
This was my favorite class of the semester. Prof. Rallo is strict and demands the very best from his students and himself. I always struggled with grammar and punctuation, but thanks to the instruction and essay assignments I'm now a much better writer than when I started the class. I highly recommend Prof. Rallo; he is a very good teacher.
This course was one of the best of the semester. It was structured and thought out very well. The course was set up so that I had the best chance for success, so long as I put forth the effort. I'm very glad I took this course with Mr. Rallo. It was difficult, but I have grown as a person and as a student in many ways. I highly recommend it.
My experience in this class has been great. Although I got a few bad grades, in the beginning, it forced me to excel during the semester. It also encouraged me to take more time on my essays and not write them at the very last minute. I saw a big improvement from then on. Teacher is tuff but fair grader. Like he says, you "earn" grades.
rallo is the absolute worst teacher i have ever had! he belittled you in front of the entire class for asking any questions. his class was torture all he does is lecture and tell stupid jokes. did all extra credit assignments and half the class and myself "earned" F's. please save yourself the headache!! don't take his class!
I liked the powerpoint lecture notes which helped me a lot in writing the research paper. The grammar exercises helped me to write better essays. Overall, this course helped me to improve my reading and writing skills. I definately plan on taking Comp. II with Prof. Rallo.
What an awful man. I wouldn't recommend him to my worst enemy.
I had a lot of problems with run-on sentences and punctuation. After taking this course I'm a much better writer. My friends didn't get a lot of grammar in their Comp. course. I'm glad I had Prof. Rallo and I'm thankful for his help with my writing problems.
I would not recommend this professor. He was difficult and rude. He belittled his students when their opinions differed from his own. He seemed to care more about making you angry and starting an argument than teaching English.
Gives lots of extra credit, but is hard to put up with. When you express an opinion that isn't his he belittles you until you agree with him. Would recommend if you want an easy grade, but not if you want an easy teacher.
He failed to engage the students. He read a PowerPoint for the entire class, and failed to effectively answer several students' questions. I have never met an English teacher so inefficient at communicating with students.
I expected the course to be rigorous since I'm a high school student but I was pleased to find that I could keep up easily. The lecture packets were very helpful and I'll be able to apply what I learned to my other college courses.
Reading plays a big role as a college student and it helped me a lot with this course because it gave me lots of ideas to discuss on each essay. Before this course I believed my writing skills were good, quickly finding out I was wrong. I learned a lot about punctuation and grammar and I'm glad I took Prof. Rallo.
This was my best and favorite class of the sem. I can proudly say that it helped me grow and improve my reading, writing, and speaking skills. The wkly reading articles made me learn how to engage in active reading and made me a better reader. I learned how to write college level essays and a research paper. Take Rallo if you're a serious student.
Best way to say it, you're either republican or you're not. He's not that helpful and is extremely one sided. If you're an atheist, like me, DO NOT take this class. When you do the research paper make sure what ever you argue on you're in his side of the argument or he'll grade hard. If he likes you it's an easy A.
A man's principles should supersede his personality. Mr. Rallo's interpersonal skills are not perfect; however, his passion, thoroughness, and genuine desire to see his students improve more than compensate. In my opinion, those are the truly important attributes of a great teacher. He is a bit rigid for sure, but an undeniably excellent instructor
He's really good and very opinionated. even if you disagree with him, as long as you know your facts you are good. I've seen a lot of people say that his views affect your grades, they DON'T! Just know what you are talking about, simple. I will definitely take his class for ENC 1102
If you dont agree with his opinion you stand no chance. He gave me a 5% on a 10 page paper, telling me it was the worst thing hes ever read. I took my paper to the head of the English department at PHSC and she regraded my paper as a B+. He made me feel humiliated, and doubtful in my capabilities. I do not recommend Rallo to anyone.
I took Mr. Rallo's college class at PHUHS. He was so rude to the students, especially me. He would give you an attitude if he felt like you went to the bathroom too much... and this was a COLLEGE class. If he doesn't like you, prepare for bad grades on your papers. Extremely condescending... I remember my Junior year he made a girl cry!
Professor Rallo is the worst professor ever. I genuinely believe he doesn't care about his students' success. He does not give suitable corrections; he lets his opinions sway his grading. Despite this being a low-level English class, he believes his students should write at a pro level. He's a terrible professor, and I do not recommend him at all!!
Prof. Rallo is passionate about English, but sometimes he grades harshly because of this. He thinks that every student should be a pro writer and he takes off points for any missing details. For online, he does have a 3 day late window for most of the assignments but you're going to need it. I personally would not take him again for online.
Rallo claims that his class is for college students but it feels like a glorified highschool class. He cares too much about attendance and not enough about providing value in his boring lectures where he talks about anything other than the topic, like his love for Fox news or his takes on abortion that nobody asked for. The credit is NOT worth it.
Professor Rallo grades very harshly and deducts points for very minute details that most professors wouldn't bother for. I'm not a professional writer, but I feel that I need to be to achieve an A in his class. English has always been my strongest subject, but this class has me questioning myself. I would not recommend his course.
worst teacher ever
I've never had a worse teacher than Rallo. He constantly goes off-topic to rant about his political views, and if you don't flatter him he will treat you with open hostility. It's shocking that he's still employed considering he embodies everything wrong with the American education system. Truly disgraceful.
Rallo is disliked by everyone and for good reason. How are you an english teacher but believe and share propaganda slop to your students? Not a teacher that cares about his students or the quality of knowledge that he shares with them. The work wasn't that hard though, just use chatgpt its not like his old senile ass could figure out the difference
Rallo is like that one racist grandpa that you dread seeing at family events
Introduction to Humanities, everyone must take this course with Benedetto Rallo!! He was the BEST!! The course was set up great, learned so much. I cannot express how I loved this class with him. He responded to every question quickly.
Was a tough class, but Professor Rallo helped me through the process. This is a serious, but compassionate Professor.
Holy chopped bro
The lectures are extremely helpful. There are way too many assignments. There was about 10 assignments every week. Every other week is a THINK assignment which is basically just an essay. He was a tough grader when it comes to anything with writing. You will never get a 100 on a think assignment.
Took humanities & eng comp. Run your essays through AI, bc thats what he uses to grade. Use scholarly sources, if you are writing a paper on a book you can't just cite the book. Mr. Rallo can't think for himself like that lol. He's pretty mainstream right wing, fiscally conservative policy, etc. He's big into respect (for himself, not you).
