I have never had such an amazing professor. Mr.Reed is an intelligent and thoughtful person himself, and as an instructor he's even better. Take him. Im serious. It'll be the best thing you'll do for yourself and your writing. He makes class SO fun and hep picks readings you will actually enjoy and be happy to discuss. YO, Im serious. TAKE HIM!!!!

Mr. Reed is a wonderful teacher. Not only is his class fun and interesting, but it is also insightful. Many lessons are learned throughout the semester that pertain to writing and life. I would recommend Mr. Reed to everybody.

Your grade is a combination of essays and very few pop quizzes on hw.. you will do very well if you go to every class and turn in every essay on time.. his class is not boring though so it won't be a drag to attend.. great guy he just wants you to come to class and turn in your essays on time!!

HE IS AWESOME! His class was mostly open discussion based, so make sure you read! In class he mentions everything you need to know for your papers. He is extremely helpful! Vey interesting classes! Its an easy A!

I got a A. But only if you read the prompt and write your papers suited for the reqiurements! 5 papers written in this class. But he helps you along the way and provides rough draft days so that you dont slack off. I suggest him to everyone! He's HILARIOUS!

Professor Reed is awesome. He is funny and will always tell you exactly what he wants. He gives a rubric for each assignment and as long as you do what it asks you will pass. No tests, just assignments. You only have to attend on certain days. Definitely would take a class taught by him again.

assigns 5 papers throughout the semester. if you want a short class don't take him. he will hold you until the last minute. you have to read but you can get away with missing a few. he is clear on what he expects and he grades on what you are capable of doing personally. I ended with an A and I would take him again. hes funny and interesting too

Professor Reed is so great! He's sarcastic and likes to pick on you here and there but its really funny and makes you want him to call on you. Yes you have to read and write papers but he sets the guidelines clearly he's not a hard grader but you can't slack either. Hes the best I would take him again in a heart beat

He's amazing! During the semester I had him, he especially worked really hard to enhance the curriculum. We had lots of group projects, but he didn't expect us to do a lick of work outside of class time, he gave us time to work on it. The projects were fun as well! I found his grading to be pretty lenient. Final was open book.

Professor Reed is very passionate about literature. He assigned interesting short stories. Sometimes he gets carried away during lecture, and there are very sparse notes... You really have to study on your own. There are 3 exams w/ short essays & extra credit, and a mandatory final. The TA's study sessions saved my grade; thank you Mr. Deitz.

Mr. Reed was a very easy grader. I'm terrible at English and I still ended up getting an A in the class. If you follow all the criteria he isn't very knit picky about all the grammar stuff. He just cares if you care

If you care enough to participate and apply yourself this class is an easy A. There are 5 essays, reading due before every class, and a lot of in class discussion. Also, he is an easy grader. I found the assigned reading and prompts very interesting, thus thoroughly enjoyed his class. If you love english, take him!

I absolutely LOVED Prof. Reed. My favorite teacher at Texas State by a long shot. He is hilarious. I can't remember if attendance was mandatory or not but it didn't matter to me, I wanted to be there. I wish he taught other classes because I would have signed up for them all.

Mr. Reed was great, very clear-cut on requirements. Very applicable curriculum - the things taught in 3303 are things you will use daily in a professional realm. He makes class enjoyable, group projects are a big part of the class. He will assign your group and you are with them for the rest of the semester. P.S. Paper airplanes and Legos!

Make sure you read everything and comprehend the reading, his exams are not easy if you do not read everything! Also, beware of the matching, you must match quotes to authors. Just try to do well, only grades are 3 exams (2 and 3 are half multiple choice/essay) and the final. I did poorly on the 1st, made high Bs on the others and barely got a B.

I looked forward to class every time. He's so funny. I wish I would have kept up with the reading because it make the lectures easier.

Mr. Reed is one of my favorite professors. He has somewhat interesting lectures and really dives into the literature far more than I was used to. But the first test killed me, make sure you study the terms he gives you and be able to match quotes to the book or author. Take good notes and you'll be good!I skipped a few classes and it hasn't hurt me

This professor was great. There's a lot of assigned books for the semester but you don't need to be in the lectures if you can grasp themes for the books. To make it easy, just show up to lecture and the exams are a breeze. He's also a great lecturer so showing up isn't a pain. Overall good class.

He's a really good professor. If you don't like to read, this is NOT the class for you. I repeat, you will fail if you don't read. However if you do decide to take the class don't be discouraged by your first test. I made a 67 on my first test. Its a learning experience.

Taking a class with Ben Reed is like digging up a treasure chest full of gold. He is amazing, and caring. He makes his classes fun and entertaining for his students and is always willing to help. He provides an environment to learn and grow.

Loved Mr. Reed. Guy was funny, charming and always had a smile on his face. One of the best professors I've had. Has great feedback, and it can be easy to pass his class if you just follow what he says to do. He loves his job, and makes a ton of jokes that you will enjoy. I recommend him to anyone looking to have an enjoyable 1320 experience.

Mr. Reed is amazing, for a first year student taking his english class he's so helpful. He really makes sure you get a grasp of what he's trying to say and the feedback is always helpful. He is hilarious and overall as a class we were close because of it. Just read and participate and you get free grades from them!

Mr. Reed is an awesome professor. Very lecture heavy, but he makes the grading criteria clear. There are many extra credit opportunities (extra credit for just showing up, extra credit quiz, etc). He presents the texts in a very engaging (and often funny) way, making them easy to understand. You MUST read the books!

Very funny and charismatic guy. He's easy to listen to and his lectures are quite interesting as well. It can be kind of unclear of what exactly we are to be tested on but other than that I have no complaints about the professor or the class.

The only hard part of this class was having to match quotes on the tests to the different books that you read through the semester. He gave extra credit one day to anyone that showed up and another day to anyone who took a quiz that the department required. There are three test and a final, no essays. Cool dude, definitely recommend.

Mr. Reed is a lecture heavy professor but is hilarious to make up for it. Class requires you to read 6 short novels that you have to purchase. Tests are easy if you read the books and 3/5 you have to write 2 small essays for them. Attendance isn't mandatory but you need to go because tests are based off lectures. Doesn't give out power point slides

Go talk to him, very approachable and helpful. Lots of group work, so make friends in class, besides it doesn't hurt to anyway it helped me a lot. Stick to the guidelines but show personal interest and he will be more than fair. He has an attitude at tine but so do we all, he appreciates truth and is a really awesome, funny, intelligent guy.

Mr. Reed is a very cool guy. Last semster I barely got an A in english but this semster I took Mr. Reed and it was easy for me to make an A. He gives great feedback and made me feel like a good writer. You are assigned 5 essays plus the final. Take advantage of visiting him in office hours because it really helps!! I would take him again.

Awesome guy the material is just flat out boring, but all you need to do is read the required readings very carefully and more than once. Test are pretty challenging if you do not do the readings carefully, gives extra credit for coming to class randomly, and writing assignments are very short and easy.

Professor Reed makes literature cool. I took the first LIT at a community college because the subject scares me, but he makes it seem so cool and interesting! I am so thankful I got into his class, if i would have taken anyone else I would have struggled. No homework, just a few writing assignments and very straightforward tests! Take him!!

people who dont know how to write a basic paper or dont like showing up to class will not like this class. mandatory is required and recommended because you go over a lot in class and do a lot of group work. Most of the grades are from your papers BUT he is an easy grader. im fair at writing and got an A on every essay. Hes hilarious as well.

I love Reed, he's a funny & cool guy w/ a lot of passion. His class was super interesting & more than just a typical English class. Papers weren't hard & there wasn't too much reading. One thing is that he doesn't remind you of anything you HAVE to read the syllabus. I was tied for the highest grade in the class, & I don't really like English.

Professor Ben is hands down one of my favorite professors! Not only is his grading criteria clear, but he's a really easy grader. Just hit all the points and you'll get all the credit. You'll have five essays, but he gives you plenty of time to write them. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE ASSIGNED READING! He will call on you to talk about what was read.

Mr Reed is one of the professors you can kind of relate to. He's super easy going and if you go to his lectures theres no way you won't pass. His lectures go over the books you're reading entirely and he's very thorough. Everything on the tests/essay prompts are gone over in lectures. If you have to take this class, take him.

Not many grades so if you miss one, your grade will suck. I would just sparknote all of the books

He assigned 6 books, you read one like every week and a half. I only read one and I'm expected to get an A in the class, do with that as you please. There is lots of essays and readings, but he always goes over through the in class essay and you can always find out from the class before . The books we read all have movies as well, just saying...

very easy class. he grades fairly as long as you put in effort. he was one of the most easy going professors ive had, very chill, and nice. assignments are super easy! attendance isnt mandatory either, and he gives a review before any in-class quizzes! 100% recommend.

Professor Reed was AMAZING! Such a fun class, and such an easy A. If you're pretty comfortable with writing essays this will be real easy for you. Exams were super easy, books we read were interesting, and he was super understanding and nice. Cooperated with us during the pandemic. I'm taking him again for World Lit, he's that good!

If you really dislike english but need to take one i highly suggest him! Attendance isnt mandatory but very very helpful, I sparked noted or read only half the books and passed every test & writing assignment because of lectures. having a good groupme with some of the english lovers helped a lot with understanding the text also !

I would have gotten an A if I tried harder. Mr. Reed is such a good professor. If you go to class you are almost guaranteed an A because most of the questions on quizzes or essays are based off in class lectures. I would recommend reading the books and not just sparknoting them. Most of them are small enough that you can finish in days. Take him!!

Gives you LOTS of readings. if you dont like to READ then do not take this class!. He's an amazing professor though.

You will read a ton. Its literature, what do you expect? Talk to him if you have questions, let him know if you're concerned about anything. His feedback is not great but he is really good with E-mail and getting back to you. If you read, do the essays and participate you will pass. I loved this class. Take it.

I love Mr. Reed! He is a super charming guy who definitely knows his stuff. I took him online and we read 6 books, had 4 analytical writings and 4 creative reflections, took 3 exams (2 of which had essay questions), and had 6 graded discussions. Take notes, do the readings, know how to write a good essay, and you will pass.

I hate English classes but I loved every minute of his class. He is so passionate and caring and takes every moment to teach you something new or discuss something interesting. He really makes every moment of his class amazing and I can not recommend his class highly enough. He made me care about reading again.

I was not looking forward to taking English class as I had several bad experiences with dreadfully boring and arrogant professors with ridiculous expectations. I really enjoyed his lectures, This class was far from boring! He will call on you though so you definitely need to read or you will be lost. Readings weren't hard at all, and he's helpful.

Prof. Reed ROCKS! His Zoom lectures were funny, he really made learning what I thought i'd never be into very interesting. He gave many breaks due to a lot of unforeseen mass events happening locally. Even though he didn't provide lecture notes, he was very clear in his lectures on what we needed to be focused on while taking notes for the exams.

I love Mr Reed! Take him if you have the chance. You do have to read a lot but assignments and essays are doable. Very nice and understanding and his lectures are interesting. If you do the work you should be successful.

You have to read a few books, but all have summaries you can find online. The tests were online not in person, and open note. As long as you have the notes dowloaded you should pass the tests no problem.

He's pretty cool. He's pretty funny and has great lectures. Attendance doesn't matter but beware that he gives out pop quizzes. He really wants participation so definitely try to keep up w reading but the summary are just as good lol. Tests and quizzes are all in person too

Creative writing was mostly workshop with peer critique with some reading thrown in. Because of that, class experience really depends on the other students. Reed was enjoyable and gave really good feedback but could be hard to understand at some times. I definitely learned from him though and would recommend him as a teacher.

I mean, its a literature class. You're gonna have to read. The first book is the hardest, so don't get discouraged. Lectures are important, he discusses the important parts of the book that you will see on the test. Even as someone who struggles with reading, prof. Reed helped break the text down in a way I could understand.

Ben is a great professor. He makes lecture very interesting and engaging. If you do the readings and attend lecture, you will be fine! Liked his class so much that I registered for another one of his classes next semester.

Professor Reed is very engaging and passionate and his lectures are well thought out. You are only graded on discussion boards, two quizzes, and three tests. You are able to bring a notecard into tests/quizzes that he provides which is helpful. Lots of reading and memorizing parts of the book.

My favorite professor in all three years of my college career, he is very funny and engaging which makes his course enjoyable. YOU WILL PASS IF YOU SIMPLY READ THE BOOKS!!! The exams/quizzes were easy and straightforward. Gives many small assignments for extra credit, he is truly a professor who cares.

Professor Reed was truly the best part of this class. I don't even like English, but his class was my favorite because his lectures were so thought-provoking and interesting. Discussion posts for every unit, but you have like a month to do each one, 2 quizzes, 2 exams, and a final group project, and that was it! I highly recommend Professor Reed.

Professor Reed is my favorite teacher of the year. He kept us all engaged and curious about what we were reading while answering also questions. His material was unique and there's something for everyone in this class. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should go to class. Super down to earth and chill guy, I would definitely take his class again.

This class is HEAVILY based on the 2 exams you take so prepare for those well by doing the readings and asking questions when needed. There are 5 discussions, 4 CRA's, and 1 quiz as well but they don't do much to help your grade. The tests consisted of around 20 MC questions and 3 short answer that makes up most of the test grade.

I took this guy 2 years ago and talk about him to this day. SO funny, and very engaging. Huge lecture so attendance was not recorded but you need his class materials to pass. 2 pop quizzes and about 4 essays. Super chill guy who knows how to get a young audience to listen to lectures about old literature. Highly recommend.

This professor was amazing. The class work was very tolerable and if you run into an issue, just communicate with him and you will be fine. His grading is fair, which means he isnt tough but he isnt just gonna hand you a 100. However if he can tell you put in effort, youre straight chillin

Love this guy! I've taken him for 2 different literature classes and have enjoyed both. Make sure you read the assigned pages/books, though! If you don't, you won't know what anyone's talking about, and don't skip out on class. He's very understanding and willing to help people who are struggling with the material. Take his class if you can!

Amazing Professor. Easy tests, easy papers. He explains and provides feedback so constructively and gently. I wish he was one of my engineering professors, but I learnt a lot from him, and NOT just course related stuff.

HE IS SO FUNNY!!!! his lectures were so engaging, inspiring, i loved his opinions on works and i learned so much. he is so interactive, and just cares about the subject. really helped spark my love for english.

He's super funny, really easy to talk to, and a really great lecturer. If you don't like "yapping" professors though this may not be the guy for you. Very minimal class work, if you show up, listen, and do most of the reading (3 books a few chapters at a time and some online stuff) you'll be totally fine.

What a great professor. Makes insightful and worthwhile observations. Definitely helped my growth in writing.

The attendance isn't mandatory but he does writing responses, there's 10 randomly, that count towards your grade all though he drops three. There is two writing tests and you get to bring a page of notes. There is no final just a quiz that is online. The class is great just can be kind of boring.

This class is very interesting, professor Reed clearly knows his stuff and has amazing insight into the topics covered in class. The class is very easy as long as you do the readings and reasonably follow along in lectures. He does lecture very quickly so that can make it difficult to take notes, but his slides are available on canvas.

THIS PROFESSOR IS SO FUNNY AND AN AMAZING TEACHER! He was my professor during study of broad and I ended up going to London with him. He's like a best friend and a great teacher. He gives great feedback; the lectures aren't hard at all. I definitely recommend taking one of his classes!

Amazing professor! I studied abroad with him, and it was a great experience. His class both prior and during the trip was very easy! Pretty critique-heavy in terms of other peoples stories and your own, but he gives really good feedback and provides an organized outline as to how others so give feedback.

Professor Reed is super funny and kind but his lecture topics can be a bit boring. He does random reading reflections for attendance and the exams are all handwritten essays, except for the final which is a 20 question online quiz.
