Professor S. is a really cool guy. I've had trouble with algebra in the past, but he explains the material in a clear and concise way and is happy to help with any issues you may have. My only complaint so far is that the tests are a little rough, but you get some grade padding in the form of your MyMathLab assignments. He has clear expectations.
Terrible in the lecture, examples were bad, did not explain well.
His tests are tough but if you study the review and do your homework problems you can get a good grade. Make sure you show up to class, if you miss one class you will fall behind and you won't understand the concept. If you need help talk to him or email him, he is very willing to help even after class. Overall not the easiest but a great teacher.
He's a nice guy and his tests are all reasonable for the meager 50 minutes we have to complete them. The reviews are a saving grace due to their relevance to the material on the actual test. The only knock I have on him is that sometimes lectures felt unproductive. Extended examples were never useful. He puts in a good effort though and will help.
He has many small homework assignments on MyMathLab and it's easy to get 100's on them, good grade booster.
There were a lot of assignments - written homework and My Math Lab homework - for each chapter. His reviews show you exactly what you need to know for his tests. The lectures got kind of long and boring sometimes. He posts notes on Blackboard, but he counts attendance, so go to class!
Even though math isn't my strong suit, Professor Schwaighofer did a great job relaying the course material in a way I could understand. Of course, the subject is still a little hard, but Schwaighofer is happy to walk you through the process and provides lots of examples to help students "get it". My only complaint is that tests tend to be hard.
Super stringent on attendance. Posts lecture notes on blackboard. Mathlab is the worst thing ever, but unavoidable. Test reviews are exactly like the tests. Class is so long and boring. He is not a good teacher at all... At all. Terrible. Quizzes every week but they are pretty easy.
Schwaighofer is a good guy and his intentions are well, but his lecturesnotes only cover basic problems. He doesn't come close to preparing you for anything on MyMathLab so be prepared to smash the "Help Me Solve This" button over and over.
Professor Schwaighofer is a very kind person, very nerdy but try to explain in the simplest terms possible. Though his class moves fast and his quizzes and tests are quite challenging but over all a great teacher.
He was a pretty good cal professor. He does not curve anything, but he is completely fair on the quizzesexams. Make sure you go to class and take notes! Expect a ton of homework but that's a given. Study and you will get the grade you deserve. Pretty much as fair as a class gets. If i had to, I would take again.
Overall a decent teacher, but it is hard to succeed in this class (in my opinion). Large amounts of homework, online and written so be prepared for that. He does not curve, offer extra credit, or offer any sort of help on tests and quizzes besides the review which is not always accurate. Would not recommend this teacher if you want an A.
Ben likes to give 3 HW assignments every week, pretend you have a week but really if you spend a week on 1 you only have 2 days each for the others. Tests are crazy hard and no curves, gives a review but its just ok. He goes lightning quick and most students can't keep up so go to SI sessions. He's nice but more focused on doing math than teaching.
Dr. S. is a great Algebra professor with clear expectations and a low-stress course load. Online homework assignments are due one week after the material is covered, and he gives clear-cut reviews. He can be condescending at times, but that's to be expected from intellectuals. If you go to class and aren't horrible at math, you'll be fine.
Ben was a great professor! He definitely knew what he was talking about and was very clear when teaching. If there was anything anyone didn't understand he always stopped to explain it another way. He's super nice and definitely wants to help his students as much as he can. There was a bit of homework but it wasn't overwhelming. Would take again!
Lectures - long and dry. Weekly - quiz + max # of Mathlab problems + long written HW. Teaches straight off of Pearson powerpoints. Pretty dry and unhelpful, could use more examples. Condescending. There are better teachers who try to make math more personal and not drown you in homework. Recitation is where you learn. Takes attendance daily.
Good teacher, incredibly nice guy. Is able to explain difficult concepts in accessible ways. LOTS of homework through MyLabsPlus (I had homework due M/W/F for a few weeks in the middle of the semester). Course moves quickly; I missed a few days during the semester and would walk in the next class completely lost.
Lectures are often extremely bland, however you need to pay attention because it is incredibly easy to get behind. Same goes for the online homework, make sure to keep up with that as well. Professor is nice enough, the material is just hard. Don't be afraid to approach him for extra help if needed.
I actually enjoyed this class because it was perfect for my learning style. He was straight to the point and would work out numerous examples for every concept. Awesome teacher. Just take notes and you probably won't even need to study much for the tests. Not an easy A but if you're in the seat every class, shouldn't be too difficult.
I loved his class. I am terrible in math and ended up making an A in bus calc. Homework is online and due a week after he finishes the lecture for that unit. You have to go to class, and take notes. Tests are exactly like the reviews so make sure you understand them and you should be fine. He's super helpful and his lectures are clear.
What a nice guy. Always down to help out if you went to his office hours. He helped me out big time before each test and in addition to the review he would give extra problems to work out to help me understand more. This class is difficult, you have to pay attention but he made it easy and able to comprehend. i would take any math class from him!
He was a great teacher and really sweet guy. I would say you need to be in class everyday because there is a considerable amount of material covered each time. He is very clear in the way he teaches and very approachable and open to questions. Lots of homework online but you can get a 100 if you rework problems. Would definitely take again.
Class was hard, especially if math isn't your thing. Homework was pretty difficult as were the tests and there aren't many grades. If you study and go to class you'll do pretty well though
A great professor that loves to make puns every beginning of a lecture or sometimes during. Explains why certain equations work by proving them step by step.
HW due every Fri & Quizzes on SUN. Tests are nothing like hw or quiz. The class avg for all the tests was a 72 or lower. He curves the test to where the highest grade is a 100. ex. highest 97 will give a 3 point curve
This professor is absolutely amazing! His teaching is clear and if you have any questions on what he is teaching, you can ask him in class and he will take out the time to make sure you understand. His office hours are reliable and a good place to go if you need more help in math. E-Textbook is used for hw only and tests are like the reviews
He's a great guy. He really cares about your learning and he always writes puns on the board before class. Always has a positive attitude, will work just as hard as you to make sure you're learning. Very clear teaching style. He was definitely my favorite professor and if I could have him teach all my classes I would.
Professor S. is not only a great teacher when it comes to calculus 2, but he is such a caring guy who is really down to earth and really wants to help. The class itself is hard, but if you go every day and listen you should do well. He makes his reviews harder than his tests and has a cool policy where the highest and lowest test scores cancel out.
Calculus II is hard but if you go, and take him, you should do well. He is the best math teacher I've had so far. Comparable to Beros in how he teaches. I like having homework due on the same day every week and then the quiz on the next day every time. You really should take him!
Mr. Schwaighofer is an accomplished punister. I'd describe him as star wars fanboy on steroids. His puns will make your knees weak and heads empty. Outside of his mastery in pun, he is an excellent lecturer. if you understand basic concepts and give it some practice you will succeed in his class.
If you have to take business calculus, he is your guy! I've never been great and math, and I passed the class. If you're not good at taking tests, however, you may want to avoid this class because the bulk of your grade will be three exams and a final. He's generous with the curves and is always available & willing to help. Lectures are perfection.
Statistics is awful. You teach yourself the material anyway, so it should just be an online course. Prof put great puns on the board, but I absolutely HATED this course. Nice guy though.
Schwaighofer's lectures are clear; he goes through problems step-by-step. Test questions are very similar to the HW, rec worksheets, & reviews. Review algebra II & precalculus or you might struggle. Read over the PPT before lecture. Do the HW asap, deadlines build up. The "study plan" on MyMathLab helped me a lot when reviewing for quizzes/tests.
This class might as well have been an online class. I never paid attention in class, because you learn everything online before each class on your own. Lots of homework and quizzes, but you have unlimited tries and they're untimed. Just do the work, and you will get an A. People who say it was hard just didn't do the assignments!! Don't slack off!
Easy A if you understand the material. Tests are pretty much like the review.
Unlike other math professors I've had at UNT, he doesn't give you the chance to make up test corrections for more points, but he does replace your lowest test grade if your final is better. He is caring and really wants all of his students to succeed in their college careers. Once you're his student you're always his student.
Explained concepts well. A little heavy on homework, lots of practice necessary. Office hours were very helpful.
It is business calculus so of course it won't be easy. I learned most of the material from going to class and then practicing it on the homework given. I highly recommend going to all of his lectures because he is one of the few teachers that actually know how to lecture. Always has 2 jokes on the board every day if you're looking forward to that.
I would 100% take this professor again if I could. He takes the time to explain things in different ways, and works through problems with you. He gave us test reviews with answers included, making the exams a lot more manageable. He is kind and funny, and is an amazing teacher. Take him if you can!
Solid guy. Very cut and dry Calculus course. A lot of homework around 3-5 assignments each week, but aren't too demanding. DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS THEY WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE. Also if you have less than SIX absences the comprehensive final will replace your lowest test grade. He loves starting out every class with puns, and he is a treasure.
Professor S. is a great professor. He really knows what he is talking about when it comes to math. He is very accessible outside of class. If you're skeptical on who to take for Calculus, take him. He prepares you very well in class for the tests, and his tests are not terrible if you study. Do NOT wait till the last to do the homework assignments.
Professor Schwaighofer is a solid choice for Business Calculus. He is one of the few professors that truly know how to lecture. We used Knewton for homework assignments and I have to say that was awful. Otherwise, tests are easy if you study the reviews he gives. He also puts jokes up on the board every day to lighten the mood. Solid choice overall
$44 for access code. 46 hw assignments. lectures but if you are a visual learner (take someone else). I watched videos online in order to understand the material. his avg test grades are 40s and 50s and he thinks the students are the problem. his teaching ways dont fit all (definitely not me) he also failed me with a 68 so dont expect any curve
Provided the notes and gave good lectures
He is a great guy, really cares about his students. The class is awful, after test 1 it get so confusing and hard, I pay attention in lecture, still have to use Statcrunch to teach me, and its still not enough, despite watching lectures multiple times. Statcrunch is horrible, will round answers wrong, count yours wrong if theyre right.
Dr S is an amazing professor, answers emails in like 10 minutes, thorough explanations, incredibly understanding if something comes up. Lecture is mostly examples. I hate stats but he makes it bearable, he moves due dates around alot based on what is covered in lecture. Great guy. Statcrunch (program we use for the course) is the devil tho
Attendance is not mandatory but it makes class 3 times easier so do attend class. Everything is online (hw, quiz, test) and prof replies very very fast to emails asking for help. Very flexible with students and will move due dates if he thinks students are not ready. Just study the review and quiz for test and you will get an A! Easy class :)
Go to recitation! Attendance is extra credit and the only reason I scraped by with an A. He wasnt going to round anything below an 89.5. The ec bumped me past that. Statcrunch is awful, all assignments on there, huge time commitment, lots of homework. Lectures mostly examples. Hated the class but loved the professor.
Most time consuming class I have ever taken. Classes were held 2x a week He assigned enough hw that required you to work everyday Mon-Sat. Expect the hw assignments to take anywhere from 1-2 hours. Hw was misleading in how many questions were on it. Not to mention labs, quizzes etc. Dont expect to get ahead he locks assignments until the day of. (:
Best math teacher I've had. Yes, there were lots of homework assignments, but the course is filled with lots of material. He answers emails within 30 min and he really cares about his students. He will help you if you ask. I'm so bad at math, but I managed to work hard and earn a high B this semester. 10/10. Final replaces your lowest exam btw
I took this class completely online. You must buy the textbook bc its how u do the hw. There is a lot of hw each wk but it actually helps u learn & it pass ur grade. He responds to emails rlly fast & he actually cares abt his students. I think there were 4 tests. Lockdown browser required. Even if youre bad at math, youll do fine in this class.
He's a cool guy, but this class ruined me. The homework and quizzes due every week is insane so prepare to not have a life. This class almost hospitalized me.
This professor is great. He responds so quick when you have homework questions, and is caring. This class itself has too much work its an overload. But I checked and saw that basically every statistics class with every teacher here has the same amount of workload, so if youre taking this class, you should definitely pick him as your teacher.
His class is easily the hardest class ive taken, I believe that this is just because for math 1680 they are required to assign this work so its not his fault that he has to assign so much work. He seems pretty nice but hes sometimes slow to email back or change errors.
The man himself is a gem& so nice. If you suck at math, I don't recommend this class. It's easy at first but gets very stressful. If you pass the final, he replaces that with your lowest exam grade AND makes it its own grade so it helps you twice. BUT if you fail, it's one failing grade worth 15%. Get ready to use Pearson. Posts powerpoints.
This professor is a great professor who cares a lot about his students. Be ready to have a lot of work through as the class isn't too hard with the work itself, it's just very time consuming. He does offer lot of help outside of class and answers emails fast about any questions and be prepared for later chapters to get harder, but ton of resources.
I hated this class, this is the worst class Ive taken by far. At least five assignments due every week, sometimes five assignments with summaries, reviews and quizzes due. One week I had eleven assignments due for this class. Starts off so easy and then made me want to walk into the ocean. 0 stars, would never take again.
MyLab/StatCrunch/Pearson or whatever all of that is called is your real teacher. I went to maybe 12 of the classes and did fine. Just make sure to get ahead of those interactive assignments b/c you will suffer if you don't. Speaking from experience here.
The professor was great! Although having three interactive assignments and three homeworks due on Saturday and a quiz most Sundays was awful. As I do believe it was too much homework, without the homework, you will not be able to pass the class just because its math, and without practice, a lot of people struggle with it.
Such an amazing class. I really learned a lot, this course was probably the one I learned the most from. It's not an easy A, you definitely have to work for it in the sense that there's a good amount of homework and the tests are a little tricky. As long as you take notes and pay attention, you'll be golden.
Other than using StatCrunch most of the time and having to memorize how to use it for certain problems I would say the class was kind of tricky & tho attendance isn't mandatory, you have to get the notes IN CLASS for you to complete the homework.
Good professor, lectures could get boring at times. Heavily relied on Statcrunch. Make sure to get ahead on assignment or you WILL fall behind.
Awesome teacher, class is easy if you go to the lectures and the labs. If you need help his office hours are always open, he's very understanding when it comes to family matters.
Definitely a class were you need to put in a lot of work for the material. I personally didn't learn all that well and ended up using youtube to help me. Make sure you do the homework as you learn it and not at the end of the week, it catches up to you. He does have jokes before every class which makes it fun. The exams are hard so have fun.
Dr. S is sweet and gives daily jokes at the beginning of every class. Overall his class lectures will make sense if you go to his classes/labs and outside tutoring if needed. Would recommend printing his notes and following along in class so you have exactly what was done in class. Be ready for exams over every 3 chapters and a cumulative final.
This professor started off good and then he turned out to be horrible. The class average on one test was a 32 but he refused to curve it. And whenever you come to him with concerns he says "just study". He makes occasional jokes to lighten the mood in class that are nice but overall his teaching style isn't good.
Great professor! Uses a Knewton Alpha program for both HW and exams, so they're very similar. Lectures aren't mandatory, but very helpful for understanding. He gives plenty of resources to help and is very clear on what's covered in the exams; if you make any effort at all, you'll succeed. Plus, he makes great puns every morning! :)
frankly, most of your learning will be done through knewton alta. he has good intentions and is quite funny and kind, but there are several discrepancies and inconsistencies between lectures and hw/exams. knewton is your best friend, so be prepared to study lots. if you miss one lecture, you may miss some key information. other than that, it's ok.
Absolutely amazing professor; best math one I've had! Lectures were very clear, tests were pretty hard but fair. He started every class by writing two jokes on the board. He definitely wants you to succeed, so go to his office hours if you're having trouble. He gives partial credit on tests (which aren't multiple choice) so show your work.
I love Schwaighofer! Best math professor I've every had. My class called him prof swag cause he was so awesome. You can tell he loves math and wants his students to succeed. Weekly homework that took a while, but tests were VERY fair. As long as you show up to class, you will easily get an A in the class.
Skip class? You won't pass.
Exams are almost 50% of your grade and those exams are very hard. Lots of home work learned everything i know online because the lectures were very heavy.
Professor Schwaighofer is the best mathematics professor I've ever had. I came into Calculus I terrified of what was to become but Professor S. made it so easy. He writes two jokes per day which brightens my day. His exams are super easy and very similar to the reviews. The quizzes and homework are a bit hard but definetly managable.
even though attendance isn't mandatory you should still show up his lectures are very heavy and important we go over lots of topics in one class period. he made class fun he was funny he always showed up happy in a good mood always willing to help and answer questions.
If you miss a lecture, you fall behind. He's good but you have to be a certain learning style to understand, so I go to Supplemental Instruction after class to help myself out. Knewton Alta heavy, homework thru the week all due Sundays. Reviews are posted for exams. Study, study, study before exams and you'll be fine.
Professor S is honestly so good at teaching he makes math easy to understand. Although attendance isn't necessary, you should still show up to get the notes. He usually covers a lot in one class, so if you skip one class you will fall behind. He does make sure you're aware of the resources you have in case that happens tho.
I mean he's alright, but majority don't be expected to just take notes and call it a day.
He has a powerpoint that he goes over in class with a set of empty notes he posts on canvas. he doesn't publish the finished notes after class. I've got accommodations for my learning disability and going up trying discuss it with him wasn't enough because i was never able to get a complete copy of the notes, drop the class, find a better professor.
Here is my honest rating, if you're expecting an easy grader this professor is not one. He does not curve tests, there's homework every weekend, and overall is a very hard class because it is very test heavy with no extra credit. So prepare to spend you're whole semester studying, the website that we use to take our tests is very annoying too.
He is a very good professor, do not listen to these reviews, show up to lectures and study for tests and you will be fine. Extra credit helps a lot and it is easy to get an A in his course even if you aren't great at math.
I LOVED having him as a professor. He is 100% the best math teacher I've ever had. Just come to class, take notes, and do the extra credit before the class and you'll be okay! If I ever had to take another math class, I would 10000000% take him again.
I do NOT like this professor. I cannot tell you the amount of tears I have shed from this class. From my experience, he did not once help me. Many students were out sick. I was one of them. I was behind more modules than I can count. Went from a 90 in the class to a 50 within a matter of weeks because of the lack of help. Don't take this class!
Teaches very well, very nice, ton of support hours and ways to improve!
A really fun guy. He really loves what he teaches and made that clear. I did struggle a bit but that's because I suck at math. His lectures were good and he paused consistently for people to ask questions. I can't lie, the homework sucked though, Newton Alta is my worst enemy. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT FOR EACH TEST.
He is so nice and caring when it comes to his students. He always tries to make it easier for his students as he knows we have other classes to juggle. He explains in his lessons very well so you can understand better. Honestly, the class is an easy B to pass, I would 100% recommend taking him again!
Very easy to work with, and offers tons of extra credit points.
