Good class, all the topics are easy to grasp if you pay attention during the lectures
Good teacher
Ben was a great teacher and is always looking for constructive feedback. Sometime he teaches a little slower, but he is just making sure everyone is following along. I wish he was teaching a higher math because he was a great person and one of the best professors I have had!
Good professor especially for early math courses. Understands that a lot of people don't like math and makes himself accessible to students.
Very patient and understanding. Is always open to questions and willing to help. Always emails back super fast which is very convenient.
Ben is a great teacher, very helpful.
Ben is a wonderful professor. He has completely changed my view on math. I no longer despise the thought of math. Now, I enjoy every part of it. He teaches you to become more confident in yourself and learn to look at the problems differently.
His a great professor. He helps his student when they need help. He goes over some of the homework questions. He is available for office hour. His lecture are very good and very easy to understand.
Very nice teacher. If you do the homework and show up to class, you'll do fine. He's always available to help if you just ask.
This Professor is really caring and sometimes funny. Really easy person to talk to.
Ben is an awesome teacher. He tends to teach things slowly, for those of you who are shy, he doesn't move on to the next course until EVERY STUDENT knows how to do it which is really helpful. Definitely would have him teach me again if he could! TAKE HIS CLASS.
Math is a hard topic for sure but if you take it seriously you will pass this class!
He was very helpful.
I took this class as a requirement to be able to advance to a higher level math class. Ben was really helpful in and outside of the classroom. His grading criteria was clear from the start and would occasionally give extra credit. He made learning math fun. I highly encourage people to take this course with him!
Ben was great, cool teacher very clear on policy.
He is honestly a great professor and takes the time out to help his students.
Pretty cool guy. He is willing to answer questions and explain things thoroughly. Lots of extra credit on exams. Participation is mandatory, but homework is not graded on correctness.
He is a great professor, he will make sure you know the material before the test and gives you plenty of information to do well.
I highly recommend taking classes from Ben. He does his best to help you learn the material.
Super helpful outside of class and is willing to make time for his students. Gives review problems before exams that literally match the exam. Do the reviews and all the homework and you'll pass with flying colors. Does group work at the end of each lecture which are difficult but helpful.
He is very helpful outside of class so use him as a resource. His explanations is mostly clean on all concepts taught and you will ace the test as long as you do the homework (literally). He has quite the humor and is very chill in lectures.
He is a good teacher, he wants to make sure that you're confident with the material.
Good instructor, even more so if you are not a math major. He is willing to work with you, is available outside of class. Participation is mandatory and he does give bonus problems on tests.
It's obvious that Ben cares about student success. He's always ready to lend a hand and definitely wants you to succeed. Homework is graded by participation. A real solid professor, probably my favorite calculus class I've taken
Homework is graded based on completion. There are only a few tests, so thry're pretty important, but there's potential to get 140% on them with the extra credit questions (which aren't much more difficult than the standard questions. Exam questions are taken straight out of the homework.
Although there is a lot of homework to do every week, it really preps you for the exams and helps ground your learning. This guy is hilarious and a caring teacher that takes time to make sure that everyone understands the concepts. I highly recommend him as a teacher.
He is very friendly and great. He does not expect difficult jobs to students. As long as you participate during the class hour, and doing your homework, you will be fine.
Ben is a pretty easy grader and doing homework in the class goes a long way. Tests were not very difficult and easy to prepare for, also there is a lot of opportunity for extra credit. Literally just come to class, do your homework and you will be fine in the class.
Ben is one of my favorite math professors/instructors by far. He was so clear and concise with his lectures; he would willingly repeat the information until everyone understands it. He is really generous with his office hours, so take advantage of those! Math is not my forte but Ben made Calculus 3 easy, so you decide for yourself ;)
Excellent Teacher, really cares about his students.
Very good professor.
Ben is a wonderful guy. He genuinely cares about the students, and he puts thought into what he is going to teach. The problem is that he is not an experienced teacher. He wastes huge amounts of time in class, although not through laziness. The end result is that the class was easy, but you learn very little from him as his activities.
Ben is one of the nicest instructors ever, and he lets takes test questions straight from the review, so it's easy to prepare for the exams. However, his lectures are below average; Ben doesn't really go over examples and I had to pretty much learn all of the material on my own. I can say I didn't learn much unfortunately. His tests are just easy
Good course
Ben is great. He offers a lot of extra credit on exams.
he was a good teacher, was prepared and engaging. his tests were challenging but had no curve balls
Great teacher. I would retake another math class from him.
Ben has an exceptional ability to navigate an entire classroom through topics and help students find their own answers without giving them the answer directly. Very methodical and careful not to skip steps or jump ahead faster than the class can follow. The only negative thing I can say about him is he can be a bit soft-spoken.
You can tell from the way that he teaches the class that he actually wants his students to succeed. Also, he plays music during breaks which is nice.
Ben was funny, open, encouraging, and approachable. He explained things simply, was never pretentious or condescending, and supported community learning. He was also a very generous grader and gave lots of partial credit and extra credit opportunities on texts. What more can you ask for from a professor?
Ben is a super awesome, hilarious, and caring professor. His lectures are straightforward, but he likes to let you explore the material on your own. Some of the classwork can be very difficult. The problems on the exam come from the homework (which isn't graded for correctness), and there is bonus. Going to his office hours is highly recommended!
Ben is great! Pay attention in class and really do the homework (make sure you check your answers!) and you will do just fine on all the exams. He makes mistakes feel plenty welcome, so don't be afraid to ask questions!
Ben was a great teacher and always made sure you understood. The tests are pretty easy because they are straight from the home work and gives 4 extra credit questions on each test. so like 40% extra. Would take again and recommend!
Ben is a fair grader, and supplies you with questions that may be on the exams which is extremely helpful.
Great professor - very funny and knows what's up! Highly recommend, lot of extra credit on tests. Attend office hours and you'll do well. Would definitely take again. P.s. Ben if you're reading this, salutations! P.s.s. know the color of his office walls!
All the good stuff is true, make your schedule of classes around this instructor. Do HW for learning, turn it in for class attendance, no grading on it but time in next class to check with classmates/do problems on board. Note, his high rating is from him assigning (asking really) us to do this, which is fine by me.
Ben is a great teacher. He really cares about any questions that you have, and won't give up until you understand the concept. His lectures aren't boring, and the material isn't too challenging. There are weekly homework assignments that are really helpful in getting the concepts ingrained into your head. He is easily accessible outside of class.
We mainly learned about series, parametarized and polar functions and had an intro to vectors. It's important to go to office hours if you have trouble with the homework, because he does not grade the homework. Ben's teaching is clear and he will help if you don't understand. The exams mostly come from homework.
He was good at connecting with the students and engaging everybody in the lectures/activities. However, if fast-pace isn't for you, I would recommend choosing another professor.
10/10 would take again
Ben does not ever use contractions when he talks, like he is the last of a proud warrior people. It is very endearing.
The Calculus with Professor Wallek with confidence.
Ben Wallek. Goes by Ben. He is an exceptionally nice guy who cares and is passionate about Math and Teaching. Ben creates a great classroom atmosphere for his students and keeps everyone engaged. Ben is a great guy. He could make a great idol, honestly, not even joking. Overall, definitely take Calculus 3 with Ben, you won't regret it.
The teacher was methodical, and prepared. The lecture flowed nicely and logically. He cared more about making sure that we understood the material. To that end, we had class exercises and group in-class activities.
One of the best math professors I've had at PSU. His classes are not lecture heavy but require a lot of group work and open class discussion to learn the concepts. He Is also very approachable and helpful. I highly reccomend to take him if you get the chance.
Ben was a good teacher to have; he was clear and really cares about students understanding the work. Having said that, it's also important to note that there is about 30% of material covered that you are expected to learn on your own through individual studying. If you go to his office hours, he will happily cover this additional material.
Ben is a very likable guy and he will move mountains to make sure you understand what is being taught. Excellent teacher. The best way for me to explain to you how good he is as a teacher is simply to advise you to take his class. You won't be sorry, however you may experience severe to moderate happiness in your learning.
His classes create a fun learning environment where all the class can be involved. A lot of the material is self-taught but he is available and will make time to help you outside of class. Tests are easy and you can have notes.
Ive taken him twice and if you do the homework and attend class it is pretty easy to pass
Great Professor. He didn't even know he was doing well (especially the Hotness rating). Very caring and open to talking, about anything. He is there to create a community that benefits everyone. If you want to be in a group, he'll help. If you email, he'll reply promptly. If you want to study alone, he won't judge. Everything is equal.
Very helpful. Wants you to pass
Ben is a great professor and I would 10/10 take him again. His lectures are very clear and he constantly trying to improve them and make sure that the students understand everything. He is very open about how the grading works and as long as you do the homework(and understand if), and show up you will do good in his class. One of the best I've had.
Ben is a warm and caring guy. You can't float by in his class, but he's really there to help you learn the material. Very friendly, and creates a positive classroom environment. Wish I could have him for every class.
This Professor takes the time to personally learn everybody's name in the class and genuinely cares about every student. He takes the time to walk around and check on everyone's progress. He offers a good amount of extra credit and he doesn't grade homework, just marks it as finished or not. Studying the review for exams will help you out a lot.
Ben was a lightly spoken instructor who can be enjoyable at times. However my critique would be that at times he relied alot on external sources instead of instead of in class lecture.
Ben isn't the best lecturer, he usually touches the surface of the topics and then lets us dive deep into the book and learn most of it on our own. However, going to office hours is always very helpful also we discuss hw during class so it clears out. If you know how to use a note sheet you will get an A for sure in the class. Great guy.
He really cares about his students and is really helpful when needed. There is homework every week and it helps to do it so you can understand the material, I think his work is really clear and he is good at helping you understand. He gives extra credit opportunities and lets the class pick out questions for the test.
Very helpful
His class was easy. Exam was very similar to be and reviews. Is very clear what is expected.
Super helpful and encouraging. Pro-mental health. Seriously one of the best instructors I have EVER had. Would love to take a class taught by him again
Ben is a great teacher. Lectures are very clear, and he's really good about breaking down problems with helpful explanations if you're stuck on anything. He cares about his students, and he's really funny. Bonus points for music videos during break. I would definitely take a class with him again.
I think that he is great at lecture and he gives great opportuinities to catch up, but we never received feedback on homework so it is easy to think you are doing well when you aren't
Ben is a caring teacher who is always willing to help. He comes off soft spoken and has a low number of notes, but you will learn a lot. Would forsure take again.
He is a fair and pretty laid back professor!
Ben is a calming presence in a sea of chaos. I feel lecture was more concept based and didn't get into enough detail. This leaves you having to do extra work outside of class. That said, this course is where the book wanders in coverage. He has a VERY dry sense of humor and is someone who helps you get comfortable with Calculus. Try Ben!
I've been at PSU for a few years now and I've never came across an instructor as good as Ben. He cares enough to know everyone's name by the first week of the class and he makes sure that everyone understands the material that he is teaching. This is the 1st time I genuinely enjoyed a math class lol. If you get the chance to take him then do it!
Ben is awesome. Great guy, knows his calculus. Extremely reasonable. Treats students like human beings. Tests are easy, homework is graded on completion. Go to class, do the homework, study the review problems for the test, you'll do fine.
Ben rules. He cares deeply about the progress of his students. He's kind of awkward and is always making hilarious jokes and encouraging a back and forth between students. I think it would be good to get more feedback on homework, but his study guides are really detailed so that kind of makes up for it.
Ben is a great guy, cares for each and every student and makes that clear from day one. Very accessible. He is a very funny guy.
He's a good teacher. The exams reviews before the tests are very clear and if you study them you will for sure pass. Would take future classes with this teacher. Attendance is required and a big part of the grade, so you just have to show up.
Ben was a good fair teacher. He expected all to participate, be present in class, and know your material for his tests. He was a good grader and if you tried in his class you will do well.
Ben is a nice man.
Ben is wonderful educator. He works hard for his students and expects the same from them. He is funny, unassuming, and very knowledgeable. His lecture are inspired and delivered with his natural charm. He is well-loved.
I took Mth 253 - Calc III with this instructor. If you do the homework problems and attend class you will do really well in this course. The exams pull material from homework and lectures and are problems you've had opportunities to work through. The instructor allows a note sheet on exams which takes the pressure off of memorization.
Ben is super caring and helpful. He spends a lot of energy making sure everyone in the class understands the material- as long as your vocal about it when you need to go over something again. As long as you are willing to participate in class, it's he's a great person to learn Calculus from.
He was an engaging and amusing professor. Made the course material understandable and interesting. Was patient and easy to talk to or ask questions of.
This is one of the best math classes I've ever taken. Ben speaks clearly and his notes on the board are easy to follow. He is not afraid to answer questions about the material in and out of class. The homework is not awful and we spend time each week going over problems from the homework. Over all he is a nice guy who can give an engaging lecture.
Ben is a great and funny professor for a very difficult and math-savy course. If you want to do well in Calc III, I would definitely recommend taking this course with him. He is a very fair grader but it might take awhile to get back your test grades due to being very busy and grading for a big class. ATTENDANCE is mandatory for his class.
He is helpful, respectful, kind, cares about his students understanding. The most part I liked about him is that he gives you what is expected in all his exams so no need to be under pressure. If you have any questions he opens his office to you. In my opinion, if every teacher does his way, students can understand the course & get great grades
Ben was an amazing teacher and I really did enjoy his class. Ben taught at a good pace for everybody to understand what was happening. As long as you turn something in for the homework you will get full credit. Ben also assigns test-prep problems and if you do them you should have no problem on the test. He is very clear about what he wants
a great teacher
during the entirety of the term Ben gave credit for homework but did not actually review it. i could have just drawn a stickfigure for each problem and i probably would have still received full credit. which i regret not doing. to put it simply you will not learn as much and will be far less prepared for future courses if you choose this teacher.
I'd like to respond to the one negative review someone posted about this instructor. Ben does give credit if you attempted the homework but he reviews it in depth the following class so that everybody understands it. He is always available to give feedback on problems when asked. Your effort in this class will determine your grade as with any class
