Amazing is an understatement. A rich look at everything that makes biology interesting, and you're learning the course material, too! A rich soothing baritone that is easy to listen to even for the most mundane material. A personal instructor, too. Not afraid to make you learn, and enjoy it.
If you take Ben's class, he will automatically devote all his energy to enhance your learning experience. I have never met a professor with so much passion for not only the subject but also his students. He is very approachable and provides detailed and specific answers when asked. Ben and Dr. Shivell made an awesome combo in BIOL 200!!
Ben makes a really great professor. He's extremely interested in the material that he teaches and it makes you interested as well. He's a personable guy and it makes coming to lecture and learning much easier. His voice is smooth and easy to listen to. He's extremely approachable and very helpful. Great guy.
This guy is awesome. He is excited and you can tell he wants us to learn. Of the three professors we had, even though he was subbing in. He was by far the best and was able to keep the attention of the class. He brought energy and excitement.
He loves difficult conceptual questions, but don't be afraid to ask questions! The only problem I had was the way Ben worded his test questions. If he releases the test directions before the test date for his next classes, make sure to read the questions and clarify with him any problems you have with the questions.
Good instructor, really cares if about learning and is excited about the material he teaches. Over all a great experience.
Ben is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, funny, a great orator, and good looking to top it off. You can't not like him. His tests are hard, the wording is tricky, but his class still does well because he teaches the material well, so you're prepared for a hard test. Take him if you love biology, want to learn a lot, and want an engaging lecture.
Excellent lecturer and very enthusiastic. One of the best professors there are. Takes his own personal time to help students so feel free to ask him questions because he will take his time with you no matter what level you are at in BIO.
Unbelievably good professor. If you have a choice, you will never regret taking a class from Ben. I'm pretty sure he could teach this to someone even if they only spoke Japanese. Super enthusiastic, always open to questions. Make sure you really proof the exams, though, because sometimes the wording is confusing as others have said.
Ben is the man. Great teacher, really cares about his students, taking summer classes from him has made summer school the best it can be. He also dissed Fox News in a homework assignment and I am a big fan of anyone who craps on Fox News. Gotta love Bwiggins!
Ben is great, however he makes his tests incredibly hard compared to the way he teaches in class. The grading in Bio is very choosy to which words you use and I think this is the biggest flaw of the bio series at UW. The regrading process however is forgiving and Ben helps go over any questions!
One of the best teachers from the UW Bio Dept. he's relatable and personally engages with his students. His lectures are something you will look forward to, seriously! If you have him at all, you're certainly going to have a awesome quarter!
He is a great professor who really cares about his students and tries to make the course as painless as possible. His exams are a little on the easy side which leads to slightly high averages so go in knowing that. Definitely recommend him.
Ben is genius. The most talented professor ever.
Ben is the best. His explanations are crystal clear and his examples are relevant. He talks in a way that is relatable to students, which keeps people engaged.
Ben was AMAZING for Bio 200 during the summer. He should be hired to teach this class during all quarters. Proactive, engaged with students, answers emails quickly at all hours of the day, and has that wonderful spark of enthusiasm of young teachers eager to share everything they know. My new favorite instructor at UW, wish he taught more courses.
He's very approachable and clear. Make sure to form a study group and utilize to your advantage. In the words of a wise man, "he's a bro."
A very very hard class. Good teacher but I didn't feel the class prepared you for his tests well..Made concept maps, re-did the study questions, went to office hours, did the end of chapter blue questions, made note cards, but still fell short.
Most amazing instructor/professor at UW so far (been here for 3years). Tests are difficult, but if he were to teach Bio220, I would sign up for it as well. I would risk my grades for just being more exposed to his way of addressing/motivating the audience. Forming study group is definitely recommended.
We need more professors like him. He is so approachable that I never feel intimidated talking to him. Really utilize his office hours as he does not try to trick you in anyway but genuinely cares about how much you learn.
By far the best professor I've had at UW. The Biology series is designed differently than most classes, but Ben is very approachable and respectable and realizes that there isn't one concrete answer to everything. His tests require you to remember details in lecture, but he's very interesting anyways so it isn't an issue.
Tests aren't a free A, but if you study you'll get a good grade. No real complaints about the gradings, which he lets you do regrades for if you have issues with anyway, and the lectures are super cool. Really fun guy, super cool, made me enjoy even my least favorite parts of biology. Probably my favorite teacher here so far. 1010 would recommend
Ben is an amazing professor. He really care whether the students learn and values our opinions. Tests are hard but doable and office hours are extremely helpful!
He's very approachable and laid back, which was something I liked. However his tests are hard. Extremely hard. But don't fear because the class is curved. He's a good teacher, gives out classwork to work on during lectures, has bad handwriting, and dealing with technology issues isn't really his forte. Overall, he's a teacher I would recommend.
He is the best Biology lecturer I've ever had. He really cares about the learning of the students and he gives you a lot of practice questions. His tests take some time to get used to. Office hours are amazing, you should definitely go if you have the time.
The tests were hard. It requires you to put effort in understanding rather than memorizing. His lecture style is so friendly and open to change that it makes you feel relax and tense at the same time.
Professor Wiggins is by far, my favorite professor at UW. His lectures are very interesting and clear. His level of interest and willingness to help us learn is admirable. Although his tests are difficult, he makes me want to learn more. He inspired me to major in Microbiology. Never knew I could enjoy molecular biology so much.
Best professor at UW. Take his class if you have the chance. Fascinating lectures every day, even if the topic was boring. Ben is funny, friendly, and very encouraging. He never talks down to students even if they say something dumb. He truly values student ideas and wants them all to succeed. All you have to do is study the public exams.
Best professor I've encountered here. Respectful, inspiring, and very, very, knowledgeable. Maintains excellent communication with students and expectations are clear. Exams require detail and are difficult. You may very likely leave his class wanting to major in biology or a related field...
An amazing lecturer. He keeps you engaged, is enthusiastic, and really cares if you learn the material or not. I recommend really pay attention to what he says and lecture and do a lot of practice questions. Use the public exam to YOUR ADVANTAGE.
Ben is an awesome teacher. He is very helpful when it comes to understanding tough concepts. I would take advantage of his office hours, and try to really understand HOW he tests and grades. His tests are really tough, but effective.
The best professor I've had at UW so far. I actually looked forward to every lecture, and he's the one professor who I can honestly say truly cares for his students and wants them to make a difference in the world.
Best professor I have had here. The class is massive but he cares SO much about the students learning. The class is hard, the material is hard, but he really wants us to learn. He has a really unique way of teaching that is interactive (but not obnoxiously so) and I found myself loving the class and the materials even though they were challenging.
By far the best professor I've had at the UW. This course is difficult, but the instruction is so good that you don't notice the material is hard. Tests were fair. Lectures are inspiring, and even though the class was huge, Wiggins clearly cared about the interest and success of every single student. If you have the chance to take his class, do it!
His tests are very hard, but the material you cover in lecture is very base level. You really need to go out of your way to fully understand the material outside of class time to do well. Make sure to find a good study group!
Ben is phenomenal and so is this class. This is Ben's brainchild and it's everything college should be-not just from a material standpoint, but also in regards to the way he teaches. An allowance for autonomy and critical thinking in the context of group-centered problem solving made BIOL313 a truly unique experience. If you can-take this class.
Easily best professor at UW. I recommend taking any class he teaches--you will learn so much. He really cares about how his students learn and is so great to talk to in office hours/after class. Extremely well-respected and humble at the same time; definitely take a class by him!
Super nice guy - tricky material
Ben is awesome! I'm never one to throughly enjoy attending lecture 5 days a week, but he actually makes me want to be there. There were 5 exams, one every two weeks, so you kind of feel like studying is constant, but the information isn't hard to study for. Definitely recommend for everyone to have Ben as a biology professor at some point in school
Ben is easily one of the best professors I've ever had. His lecture style is unusual, in that most of the time is spent asking and discussing questions, and then teaching by giving the answer. He's also just generally fun and funny, and I'd definitely suggest taking any class that he teaches.
Worst class I have ever taken. Most unhelpful teacher, knowing lecture material well doesn't mean you'll do well on exams. Do not take his class.
Ben is so passionate about what he does, and his lecture are always so interesting, with many real-world examples. My only qualm is that on exams, he is not specific enough when asking you a question, and then he takes off points for things that you probably knew but that you didn't know you had to write.
Favorite prof at UW, no contest. His tests are very hard, and different from any other tests you have ever taken, though they can be frustrating, they really make you learn the material. Dr. Wiggins is very approachable, and strives to make everyone feel included. Dr. Wiggins has a PHD in teaching, and it shows. I can't say enough good things.
I do not have the words to express how much of a gem Wiggins is. He is a dream of a prof, is very supportive in our learning, and is incredibly knowledgable in the field. This is a course that reqs a substantial amount of work, but all is well worth it (**low avg!). I owe my new passions for molecular life processes to Ben and his love for teaching
Ben is a great lecturer and is very good about knowing the names of students that come meet with him at office hours, he takes time to get to know the students that take time to go to his office hours and actually talk to him.
Ben is my favorite professor in UW. Miss his Biol200 is definitely a great lost! He cares about how his students learnt and encourage questions. He will remember your name if you attend his office hour. He is humorous which defiantly helped me to understand the concept. I used to not enjoy molecular biology but now I decided to major in it.
Ben is 100% the best professor I've had at UW. He's engaging, cares about each student's progress, and overall just knows what he's doing. The difficulty of the course is high, but he's very helpful and approachable. I thought Ben was going to make me excited about bio (he did) but his teaching style actually made me want to pursue education.
Ben is the best professor I have had at UW thus far. His office hours are extremely helpful and he will actually attempt to get to know you and remember your name. The class itself is obviously difficult but he made exams very straightforward and it was a pleasure to learn from him. Wish I could take him for Biol 220!
Bio 200 with Ben Wiggins was one of the best classes I have taken at UW and he is one of the best lecturers I've had. He clearly cares if students understand the material and is very funny in lectures. He visited us in lab one of the weeks as well. He has alot of office hours for help if need be. There are 5 exams which are pretty tough.
Ben really cares about his students and takes the time to remember your name if you go to office hours. His lectures are really clear and you can tell he really cares about your learning and is really passionate about biology. However, the class is graded based on a few tests and if you screw up even one, it impacts your grade a lot.
Dr. Wiggins is the best intro professor I've had at UW. He is always around for help and takes interest in every student he speaks to.
Looking back on this class, it's hard to believe how much we learned. Dr. Wiggins' lectures are engaging and inspiring and I wish he could teach all of my classes. He is unbelievably talented at remembering names and faces, and can break things down in a way that is easy to understand. I only have good things to say about him.
Really interesting lecturer (definitely made me want to go into Molecular Bio), but when it comes to exams he definitely makes them so vague that it is almost impossible to truly demonstrate your real knowledge on the exam unless you are good at interrogating TAs into giving you hints about what the question is asking.
Hands down the best professor I've ever had so far at the UW. Ben cares about his students and their understanding. The material is tough, without a doubt, but you have to work for what you want. Study in groups, go to OH, and make use of the public exam. You don't always get to have a professor like Ben, so enjoy his humor and passion for biology!
I wish Ben was my prof for the entire Bio series - class is SUPER well organized and he takes the time to explain everything he can during lecture. Really helpful during office hrs and genuinely seems like he cares that everyone does well. Exams can definitely be tough but that's due to the material/concepts not because of how the class is run
Such an awesome professor. Really caring and respectful to everyone. I also had him for BIOL 313, which is one of the coolest classes Ive taken at UW. Would recommend both of his classes to anyone interested in biology.
By far one of the best teachers I've had at UW. This material itself is beyond difficult to learn, but Ben's ability to teach it is lifesaving. Without him, I can only imagine what my grade could've been. His ability to delve into difficult topics with ease and eloquent descriptions allows his students to thoroughly understand them.
He's very good at explaining difficult concepts. He's the perfect match for a class that covers some of the most confusing aspects of microbiology. And he has a great sense of humor.
Ben is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He makes difficult material easier to understand & his lectures are funny & enjoyable to go to. Go to his office hours on Fridays & use the public exams to study. Ask questions when you're confused, Ben genuinely wants to help you & see you succeed. If you get the chance to have Ben as a prof take it!
There is polling questions. He's pretty funny. He actually balls out at the IMA
Dr. Wiggins demonstrates how exciting the field of biology can be. He's an amazing prof who cares more about his students learning than feeding his own ego or inflating his personal paycheck. Take this class and learn a TON of amazing science without fear of persecution.... BUT... be prepared to work for it. :)
He is by far the best professor I had! He really does his job in trying to help every student succeed in this class. So difficult as this class is, his professional teaching attitude and help alleviates much of the pain in understanding stuff. Although his exams are definitely hard, we get to build a fairly concrete bio basis.
Dr. Wiggins might just be the best professor I have had at UW. He is very engaging, very passionate and extremely invested in the success of his students. He was at every exam, every office hour, every lecture. HIs lectures were very informative and never have I learned so much in a quarter. This class is extremely tough but worth it in the end.
If you like molecular biology you are going to love this class. It's extremely fast-paced but Dr. Wiggins cares a lot about making sure his students have a clear understanding of the topics. Do well in this class by taking careful notes /rewatching lectures and meeting with a study group before tests. Try to attend all office hours if possible.
Undoubtedly the BEST professor I've had at UW. I came into the class with no particular affinity for molecular biology but Dr. Wiggins makes it hard to not love it. In a 200+ lecture hall he remembers students' names, actually welcomes regrades, and makes inspirational societal connections. Truly an amazing professor.
Can't emphasize enough how extraordinary Dr. Wiggins is as a professor. Learned SO MUCH MORE than I expected. What's more important that makes me write this review is the fact that he truly cares about his students: not just simply biology stuff, but our mental health and well-being, our future, etc. First course that I do not want it to end.
Professor Wiggins is the best professor I've had at UW! He manages to make a large class (mine was about 300 I believe) feel smaller. The material is difficult but his explanations are so good that you almost forget it's a hard class. The pre-released exam questions really help tp focus your studying and eliminate some exam stress. Take his class!!
Wiggins is actually my favorite teacher I have ever had. He makes you feel like you are important and makes you want to live up to the astronomical standards he has for you. He honestly believes that all of his students are geniuses in their own ways and I have never been happier in college than in his class.
This man will inspire you. The course is going to be hard if you're not big on biology, but he teaches in a very easy to remember way. His sense of humor helps me remember his lectures. Relative to other BIOL200 professors, if you have a chance to choose him, do so and you won't regret it. Read the textbook!
Seminar class about the apocalypse, very fun and interesting discussions about ways the world might ends. Essentially no work, just show up and prepare for Armageddon.
THis class is a breath of fresh air in the biol series! The way he structures his classes and tests are in a way that teaches you the great communicative and groups working skills a research institute like UW should! GO TO OFFICE HOURS, and form study groups, it is SO helpful!
Ben Wiggins is by far the most amazing professor out of ANY STEM class I have taken. He truly believes every single student has the capability of succeeding. You need to work with a study group to do well and understand everything. Go to his office hours. Take the time to meet him personally. He gives a version of the exam ahead of time so use it.
Amazing lecturer. The best I've EVER HAD at UW.
Ben was such an amazing professor, definitely one of my favorites at UW. His lectures are interesting and engaging, and his outgoing personality makes it easy to pay attention. Provides really great explanations for such difficult topics. Grading is fair and exams aren't too bad. Really cares about his students progress. Overall he was amazing!
Professor Wiggins is by far my favorite teacher at UW. He's so passionate about the topics we learn and truly believes each one of us has what it takes to succeed, in his class and in life. Don't get me wrong - the class is extremely difficult. But it's worth it.
Wiggins is an amazing human being - hilarious, kind - but be warned that the exams for BIOL 200 are difficult. Lecture topics are interesting but he doesn't always explain everything clearly so you gotta put in some extra work. Best way to study is to do past exams and learn what the graders look for in short-answer responses.
Ben made me excited to come to class every day, I enjoyed my
I had Ben for Bio 200, and he is such a great teacher. It is evident that he puts a LOT of effort in to not only making sure his students succeed, but also assuring them that they all have potential. I learned a lot about how to critically think about problems in biology and was much better able to interpret complex scientific articles I read!
Amazing professors. Connected science with real life issues that made me feel like I had a clear grasp on molecular biology so I can understand research papers/ new topics popping up in science. Felt really easy as the class is clearly structured to go from the small molecules to proteins to cells then to whole systems! So cool.
Ben is a professor that really cares about how much we learn, and he understands that the letter grade isn't the most important aspect. He's probably one of the most invested professors I've had in terms of how much he tries to reach out to the student. While his questions can be vaguely worded at times, he was a great professor overall.
Ben is easily the best professors I have ever had. While his exams are hard, he really preps you the best he can. If you put time aside and study smart, you will do great. I really loved him and his class. I still keep in touch with after 2 years of not taking his class
Hands down, the best professor I've ever had in my academic career. It's a hard class, but the way he teaches it makes it understandable and interesting. It is so clear that he genuinely cares about his students; he would constantly emphasize how the grades weren't everything and he's so inspiring. If you have a chance to take his class, DO IT!
Ben is enthusiastic and passionate and it's contagious. He's an advocate for community based learning and requires you to work closely with others. He's challenged me to think in completely new ways, and is a fantastic mentor that wants to see everyone succeed. He expects quality work out of us, but is also understanding and provides much support.
Dr. Wiggins is the only professor in my UW years who have made me feel like I am not purposely being weeded out and made me realize I am somebody (which I never have in this school). Definitely not an easy class, but it is so worth it when you look back!!!
Ben Wiggins is one of those professors who could teach the most boring subject and make it fun - he's passionate and really knows how to connect with his students. Any class he teaches is great. Bio313 is valuable/fun/interesting so a great summer class option, and I wish it was offered year round so more people could take it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!
Professor Wiggins is the reason why I made an account to give my first review here. I could go on and on but he is by far the best professor I have ever had and I wish he taught more classes! He is beyond caring, genuine, inclusive, and values your unique input/approach to learning. The class was not difficult but challenges you to do your best:)
Ben Wiggins has such a huge impact to help me becoming who I am today. I retook Bio200 class with him, because I barely got passing grade for the first time taking it with another prof. Bens lecture was really clear and very efficient to understand. I took this class with 5 friends who all said that Ben was one of the best prof we ever had.
Instead of just rote memorization, Ben's class teaches you how to critically think about complex problems in biology. Even if I forget about the actual biology, I felt as though I gained valuable learning skills because of this. It's apparent that Ben cares about not only what the students learn, but also how to foster good ways of learning it.
One of those professors where you feel empowered and encouraged to learn. No matter if the topic was difficult, he made you want to learn it. You saw the passion he had for the topics he taught every day, and he cared for each student individually.
Dr. Wiggins is a fantastic professor who is passionate about education and equity. He works so hard to make BIOL200 a great class, and I learned so much. He is a captivating lecture and a very approachable instructor. I had the chance to work with him as an undergrad TA and saw the huge amount of behind-the-scenes work that goes into his courses.
After graduating from UW, I can say with certainty that prof Wiggins was one of the best lecturers I had during my time there. He approached class with an enthusiasm and commitment that motivated us to learn and get excited about complex biology. His class is the reason I declared a major in biology and developed learning habits.
I learned so much from Dr. Wiggins because of his great lecturing style. He's open to questions during lectures and is happy to explain concepts in different ways so that everyone has a chance to understand. He's very approachable and cares about his students actually learning, rather than just passing the class.
As a non-traditional student, I had to take many hard sciences outside of my original field of study: Ben Wiggins was one of the most memorable instructors I had because of how digestible he made cell biology. Now that I am a medical student, I still use and rely upon the foundational concepts he taught me so well.
As a medical student who scored in the 99th percentile on the MCAT Biology section, I can confidently say Ben played a substantial role in my fundamental understanding of biology. His passion for education is contagious and does a remarkable job distilling complex information to easily understandable concepts. I cannot recommend him enough!
This class was a favorite of mine. Lectures required more active learning during class time, but they were well organized and helpful to my learning. Dr. Wiggins is a great teacher, he worked hard to understand the student perspective and better correct our misunderstandings. He is also very approachable and I was never afraid to ask questions.
Ben is hands down the best teacher I have had at UW. He makes the content relevant and interesting. His lectures are well put together and interesting. He doesn't give you an easy grade. But going to office hours definitely pays off. His exam structure is unique but fair. I wish he taught more classes. I would take every class he offered.
Ben was really passionate about both the biology material and the practical application, and it made the class a lot more fun and exciting. He worked pretty closely with us in the class that I took with him, and I feel like his feedback has always timely and useful. Hes definitely one of the good ones.
If you get the chance to take a class with Ben, then run, don't walk to register. I've learned and retained the most knowledge AND life skills from this class! He's hugely respected for a reason -- his lectures are clear and applicable, he's caring and supportive of students, and he is willing to do anything to make sure you learn.
I really wouldn't want to take this class with anyone else. Prof. Wiggins made the material very clear & understandable. It's a hard course, but his lectures are awesome & make things very clear. I really learned how to learn in this class. Also, he literally always makes himself available outside of class; ask for help from him and you'll get it.
I took Dr. Wiggin's class as a summer course. He was the best biology professor I had. He was enthusiastic, he engaged the class by asking us not to just read books and answer questions but by doing handcrafts, discussions, and group projects. And plus, he would know each and every one of our names in the class, which speaks to how much he cares.
This is an amazing teacher. He believes in a growth mindset and puts in the extra work to make sure he connects to multiple learning styles! Loved this class:)
Wiggins is the best! He makes tests very fair and guides you on what is most important to study for the exams. He is great at answering questions and really cares about his students understanding of the material.
I took BIOL200 with Ben and heard he was teaching another course. I didn't even care what it was, I signed up right away! Ben can make ANYTHING interesting. He genuinely cares that you're learning and uses many teaching techniques to create an active learning environment. If he were to teach anything else, I would take it in a heartbeat.
As a budding teacher, I found the class transformative. Dr. Wiggins drew heavily from the education research literature and structured the class to illustrate techniques he was teaching us, so we read about them, experienced them as students, and practiced them. I also appreciated Dr. Wiggins' commitment to treating us as equals in the classroom.
Dr. Wiggins was definitely one of the best professors I had while at UW! He is an awesome lecturer and his tests were fair! Take a class with him if you get a chance!
Ben is among the best professors at UW. His intro bio course forces you to perform higher order thinking and amply prepares you for upper division classes. Nevertheless, he conveys information clearly and comprehensively. More than that, you can tell he really cares about the success of his students. I always felt supported in his classes!
Ben Wiggins is the most inspirational lecturer. This class made me want to be a molecular biologist. Dr. Wiggins contextualizes science like no one else. Not only does he make it easy to understand, but he makes it clear why it is worth understanding in the first place. His passion for science is second only to his passion for teaching.
Dr. Wiggins was an amazing instructor on a subject I did not have much familiarity with at the start. I never thought I would be so engaged in the biological fundamentals of agriculture
I found Dr. Wiggins to be one of the best bio lectures at UW. He was engaging and passionate and I looked forward to attending class. He was committed to making sure we learned biology and I felt like he was genuinely interested in my success as a student. I liked biology before his class but I left genuinely fascinated and inspired to learn more.
Prof Wiggins is one of the best professors I have ever met in my life! Truly is passionate at what he does and makes sure all his students understand materials and tries to explain concepts precisely and in the simplest manner. He also checks in on his students' mental health which is very much appreciated!!
Ben Wiggins is hands down the best professor I've had in my 4 years of undergrad (I'm a biochemistry major). He is caring and he is transparent about his teaching methods. His number one goal is to help people learn awesome material and in a way that is accesible to everyone.
Having Biol200 with Ben was a truly inspiring experience. He tested us in a way that I have never been tested this style is what made me start to see myself as a scientist. This material is dense and it is hard but Ben is with you all the way and is genuine in his goal to teach.
Ben Wiggins has been one of the most considerate professors that I have had as a freshman in UW. He always tries to make sure that students voices are heard and responds to students feedback within a timely manner!
Best professor Ive had so far. Hes really understanding and is always open to feedback. He also teaches in a way that makes the material interesting instead of a bunch of boring lecture slides.
Respectfully responds to students' questions in a timely manner in live/online platform! Ben encourages students to reach beyond just the grades and think about the material in a way that would be relevant to our future careers. He posts these interview videos of professionals in healthcare, and even got me connected to one of them as per request!
Dr. Wiggins is truly special. The best prof I've had at UW so far. He really cares about his students, and I honestly don't know what more he could have humanly done to be a better teacher. I was nervous to take a bio class because it wasn't my thing in high school, but I thrived thanks to Dr. Wiggins.
Dr wiggins is the best! he helped me out a lot throughout the quarter and let me tell you he truly cares about his students. If you are not doing so good in his class let him know! he will literally help you get through the class and pass. Make sure you have a study group and review you notes multiple times. He also offers extra credit which isnice
After graduating from UW Bio, I can say confidently that Ben Wiggins is one of the best and most approachable lecturers I encountered in all 4 years. The design of his class forces students to think critically and study smart. I carried the study techniques and ways of thinking that I learned in this class throughout the remainder of my undergrad.
Ben is without a doubt my favorite professor at UW. His class was intellectually challenging, but that's just how Bio 200 is, I learned so much that I would do it all over again if I could. He not only taught the content well but provided context in the larger scientific picture as well as in a social context, which made it so much more interesting
Ben Wiggins was one of the best bio professors I had at UW. He was the first teacher I had who used the active teaching style and it made the material a lot easier to understand. Ben made classroom participation worth your while as a student and found ways to involve students like myself who never particularly enjoyed being cold-called.
I believe that Ben Wiggins was one of my favorite professors at UW in all my time in college. He challenged my thinking, helped me become a better scientist, and provided students with incredible support and encouragement. This was my most memorable classes and that's due to the amount of effort and care he put into crafting the curriculum.
Dr. Ben Wiggins has been my most influential professor during my tenure at the University of Washington. Not only does he perform an amazing job of teaching the course material, he goes above and beyond to cement great learning and studying strategies that will help any future STEM major succeed in their future endeavors. 10/10
Dr. Wiggins was easily my favorite professor during my time at UW. He does a great job organizing his content in an easily understandable way, and always finds ways to make lectures interesting and engaging. He really knows his stuff and genuinely cares about your learning, and that's why he's regarded so highly throughout the UW STEM programs.
I can promise you, BIOL313 is one of the greatest experiences you will have at UW. It is a class like no other, and the amount of knowledge you will gain in such a unique field is something that you will not regret. Ben Wiggins is an absolute gem of a professor, and his passion for teaching will deeply influence you in this course.
Absolutely one of the most amazing biology professors at the UW! He was very caring and considerate, where I felt supported both in the class and what I want to pursue in the future. His lectures and expectations were very clear and exams were fair. His classes are a must-take!
It's pretty hard to explain how good of a professor Prof. Wiggins is without taking his class. Truly one of the most caring and understanding professors there are. There are no tricks in any of his classes, you can 100% tell he wants to you learn and fall in love with science. He was the reason I fell in love with biology
I simply can't recommend this professor enough! By far the best professor I've had at UW. He cultivates a positive/encouraging learning environment that makes it not only fun but easy to learn what would otherwise feel like hard tedious material. He also emphasizes comprehension and application over memorization and test taking which is so helpful!
I have also taken Biol 200 with professor Wiggins, and In both courses, he focused on making the students better scientists than just memorization machines. all his assignments allow the students opportunities to investigate the material hands-on without outside influence to reach to their own conclusions, making the material stick better.
Dr. Wiggins legitimately cares about your success in his class. The content is challenging so go to office hours and get extra support if you need it.
I am grateful I was able to take this course with Dr. Wiggins. It was one of the most interesting classes I took. Even as a virtual class, he still made the class engaging and fun. I genuinely enjoyed the activities we did and the topics covered. His passion and interests in teaching show in the way he structures his class and supports students.
Professor Wiggins is by far the best teacher I have ever had! He is personable and empathetic. I only have good things to say about him. I have not learned as well as I have in any other class than his. He is also super smart and really knows his stuff - I am grateful to have learned from him :-)
Doctor Wiggins is sincerely the kindest and most insightful professor I have had the privilege to learn from. The opportunities he curates for his students demonstrates his passion for the field and his genuine care for our education. I tell everyone about him and his class!
Professor Wiggins is one of the best teachers I have ever had at UW! I took this course in Summer of 2022. He made the class super easy to understand and applicable. He uses interactive activities to help us understand the concepts we have learned in class and is always available for questions or concerns pertaining to the course.
Be prepared for group work and thinking outside of the box. A must take professor before graduation. Great advice about medical school and career options as well. :)
Dr. Wiggins was one of my favorite professors I took at University of Washington. He has clear enthusiasm for teaching and is one of the friendliest professors you'll meet. His course material was difficult, but he did a fantastic job of making it engaging and understandable. Great professor and wants all his students to succeed!
Professor Wiggins is the best teacher I have had in 8 years of post-HS education. I had the privilege of having him as my professor for two courses. It is clear to the students that he cares about each and every one of their success and understanding of course material - no easy feat when classes were 500+ students at a time.
Prof. Wiggins is a fantastic instructor who makes the challenging material engaging and understandable. His active teaching style and genuine care for student success make this class a must-take. Study aids like unstuckstudy and the free textbook are hugely helpful.
Professor Wiggins is amazing! He really cares about his students and wants them to do well. Anatomy and physiology courses are tough, but he made the material relatable and fun to learn. He takes time to thoroughly explain concepts and in various ways for students with different learning styles to understand. Lectures have a nice flow to them.
BIOL 313 was by far my favorite class at UW. It was unique with fun labs, field trips, and guest speakers. I genuinely looked forward to class every day because of all the engaging activities Ben had planned. Ben was also great to talk to about future goals. He was always supportive and took the time to listen. 10/10 would recommend.
Dr. Wiggins is an amazing professor! The projects that he designed for the course are very interesting and it really encourages students to connect with their environment and think outside of the box. The lectures are engaging, and he is very caring towards students as well.
