An amazing professor, Wright will delve into the creation of chattel slavery at it's roots, reaching deep into historical context and forcing students to understand how slavery came to develop. Though I took interest in the class myself, be prepared for a rigorous course with several short papers and a final research report.
The class I took wasn't easy, but I feel like it had purpose in its difficulty. For some of the class, it did seem like Dr. Wright had tossed us into the wilderness, but looking back, I think he guided us well. Dr. Wright seemed really passionate about history, and because of this, he managed to spark my interest in a subject I used to dislike.
Dr. Wright is passionate about his areas of expertise - digital education, theological history, and slavery and abolition history. He has a wealth of knowledge, a good sense of humor, and constructive feedback. Great for those who are looking for a mentally engaging course in a positive/encouraging environment.
Dr. Wright really cares about the subjects that he teaches, there is passion evident in every single one of his lectures, and he makes learning feel enjoyable which is difficult to do. His classes are discussion-based for the most part, with (sometimes long) readings assigned which are read before class. Reading is very important. No tests.
He taught the class really well and I felt like I learned something of value that extended beyond just the class material itself. Be prepared to write essays but also be prepared to have much better writing skills by the end of the semester. He definitely cares for the class and is willing to meet with students and discuss issues. Great teacher!!!!
Professor Wright is a great professor who gives you the opportunity to truly learn. Here's the thing, in school you normally just run the rat race and emerge on the other side with a grade, hopefully a good one. This class let's you 'make a thing' that relates to history and/or the digital humanities. You actually make something! Not busywork.
Attendance is required, though you can miss class if you send him an email explaining why. Coding and Web Design are not required but will be EXTREMELY beneficial for your grade. You are expected to create a "digital thing" at the end of the semester. It will sound intimidating but he will help you get through it! Great class to take.
This class literally changed my life. I would highly recommend it to anyone, regardless of major. Consider brushing up on coding or web design skills, or take this class with someone who knows how to do those things. It's not completely necessary, but can make your life easier for the final project.
Dr. Wright's Digital History class was a great experience. He is an amazing lecturer/discussion leader and the content is engaging. Regular readings and papers are to be expected, but the in class discussions give you plenty to draw from. The final project requires a significant amount of creativity and ingenuity but is rewarding and fun.
Dr. Wright is always willing to talk with you and help you out. He assigns a lot of work but it is reasonable. The main part of the class was a project of original digital scholarship. Be prepared to work very hard on the project. Dr. Wright will gladly provide input about the project and suggestions as to what you can do to improve and succeed.
Dr. Wright cares so much about his students and their learning. He constantly thinks about how to improve as a lecturer and a teacher. He doesn't want to give you fluffy assignments that don't teach you anything; you will have to work, but if you take advantage of his class and his time, you will grow as a person, as a writer, and as a scholar.
Dr. Wright is very passionate about his work. I loved taking his class. We had one major project that spanned the last half of the semester. As tough as that sounds, it was amazing. Dr. Wright was always there for me, whenever I had questions. He gave good feedback and has given me many tools to improve my writing and critical thinking skills.
I absolutely loved this professor. Our class was about digital humanities, something I knew little to nothing about, but oh did I learn. Dr. Wright is willing to work with you, but his expectations are high. I loved doing the independent project. You definitely get what you put into the class, and it's worth putting in a lot.
I took his readings course and honestly loved it! Dr. Wright really knows his stuff, and his lectures/discussions were both clear and thought-provoking. I had no prior knowledge on the subject, but his class got me excited to learn more. He really cares that you think critically about history, and he's pretty funny as well. Definitely recommend!
Great teacher. I highly advise you to take this class if you need a history credit.
Best history teacher I have had so far. Teaches well and makes you become excited about history. The course work is a bit on the heavier side, but he really sets you up to succeed. Nearly impossible to fail if you do the required work and show up to class.
This professor was AMAZING. He was funny and made class very exciting and interesting. He really got you thinking about the civil war and reconstruction era. One thing you need to know is that he does have you read 3 books during the course (easy reads) and there are 4 essay. The essays and 2 written tests are fairly easy as long as you GO TO CLASS
If you have any sort of budding interest in history or want to take a history core class that's stimulating, mature, and nuanced, then this is a great class to take. There is some heavy reading primary sources and three books, and the class has four papers and two exams, so the workload can be heavy. However, Dr. Wright is a fantastic professor.
There's no homework assignments or busy work, the class is entirely made up of lectures. Class time is extremely informative, engaging, and funny. Your grade is based off of about 7 essays, and nothing more. This might sound intimidating, but if you listen in class, take notes, and read the material it's a breeze and you'll have fun doing it. A+++
Great Professor class is very interesting and engaging. I learned more in this class then all my other class I took this semester combined. This was the most informative class I have taken so far. Just get ready to do allot of reading and essays. It consist of 3 book with 3 essays then midterm and final exam with a final essay. Must attend class
I'm not a humanities major, but this was the best course I've ever taken at UTD. Dr. Wright is an incredible professor. I learned so much from this class. Dr. Wright really cares about his students, and makes himself very available outside of class to talk about the assignments or just chat.
Great professor, class is really easy if you just show up and actually participate. Lectures are extremely useful, mainly just talking with slides, limited homework. Overall great guy and speaker, 10/10 would recommend. Is my favorite professor so far at UTD. Could of got an A+ if I didn't skip one assignment, still getting a high B though.
Your enjoyment of a small class like this, which focuses a lot on discussion, really depends on the willingness of everyone in the class to participate... Aside from providing historical context, Dr. Wright avoided straight up lecturing and encouraged meaningful discussions every class. I'm glad I took this course.
Dr. Wright is passionate both about what he teaches and about being a teacher. I think he does a great job with this class, and if I was a history major I would definitely be seeking out his other courses. The class is taught through his lectures without the need of the free online textbook. Discussions are framed with overarcing questions.
The kind of class that you'll do well in if you do the work. I know college kids tend to hate that, but Dr. Wright pushes students in order for them to start asking the questions you're supposed to be asking when you're in college. He's very passionate which makes taking any of his classes is worthwhile.
I had Dr. Wright for an honor's reading class. He was a great prof who really took the time to tailor the class to the students.
Dr. Wright is extremely passionate, & for that I commend him. However, I will NEVER take another one of his classes. Instead of encouraging & inspiring his students to share his passion, he *demands* it, and then gets upset when they do not. He gives vague assignments & grades harshly. Just sat in class for 3 hours doing NOTHING but could not leave
The course was very reading and research-heavy. It also required a huge amount of work outside of class and involvement on the student's part. The teacher explained the lecture materials well and was overall very organized. His enthusiasm for the class would keep someone who doesn't care at all about the material from being bored.
Professor Wright is incredibly passionate about this class, and I think that extends to everything he does. Incredibly sincere about making you learn. I worked much harder than I expected to have to for this class and I'm glad I did. This was a tough but positive experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
I took Dr. Wright for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies in the Arts and Humanities. There was weekly writing and reading, be prepared to do lots of work outside of class. If you are tech-saavy, the final project will be a breeze for you; however, he doesn't really teach you any technological skills.
This isn't a blow off class at all. You will do a lot of reading and writing papers. He can be a bit of a tough grader and a little intimidating. It's probably because he is very passionate about History and Humanities so you cannot just bs him.
Dr. Wright is an amazing professor. His classes are incredibly difficult because he actually cares about the content and making sure his students walk away knowing something. If you're looking for an easy A, steer clear of Dr. Wright. If you're looking to actually learn something, you really can't do better.
This class was very frustrating. He micromanages to a level of absurdity. He assigns a lot of homework that doesn't have educational value. Writing weekly paragraphs about what we learned in class and detailed reports of the work we are doing outside of class was a waste of time. There are 6 short papers that are harshly graded.
Was an enjoyable class, along with an enjoyable professor! He was funny, but also a great teacher. Though there was a lot to read, it was condensed to the first 6 weeks, along with group discussions based on those. The big grade came from the project that had to be made by the end of the semester, but that could be done on your own or in a group.
Requires participation during mandatory group discussions and class discussions. Gives great feedback and responds to student inquires quickly. The professor is enthusiastic in the topic he teaches and has a clear criteria on how he grades homework. Homework usually involves reading online articles and discussion them in class.
It's clear that he's into what he's teaching but his explanations aren't anywhere near thorough enough to make the subject understandable without doing your own research. Group work is frustrating and takes up half of the semester- doesn't lecture relies on groups to teach amongst themselves
This is a very challenging course, but well worth the effort it takes to fully engage. The readings are well-chosen and insightful, the writing stretches your literary prowess, as does the professor's feedback. The class culminates in a project which can act as a springboard into other academic possibilities.
Do NOT take this class unless you are ready to be moved. BEWARE: he is not everyone's cup of tea, but, Professors like him are the reason we as students get out of bed in the morning to attend class. He exemplifies all of the qualities of an "O' Captain, my Captain" type of professor that challenges you to be better every chance he gets.
Wright cares SO MUCH. And if you don't care that much, well then you're going to have a bad time. This is not a skate through class, but if you're not in college as a formality before you move on to the rest of your life, and actually want an education or to be challenged, then take him.
His passion shines through. Nerd-out over your specific projects and he'll definitely take notice.
Meh. He's young & arrogant and this shows in his teaching. Digital Humanities course is a disorganized mess. Course is an introduction, but he just throws students into texts filled with technical jargon w/ no explanation. No tech skills are learned. He means well, he just needs work. His teaching style isn't on the level of the A&H School at UTD.
Dr. Wright cares about his students and his job. His Digital Humanities course is good, but there are some faults. The group discussions in the first half of the semester are frustrating--if the other students don't care about the material, you're out of luck, as he lectures very little. Just go to his office. He's very approachable 1 on 1.
Dr. Wright is a very interesting professor. He comes off as extremely arrogant, but he truly means well. He expects you to have the same interest as he does on digital humanities which is frustrating because I didn't chose to take the course. I like Dr. Wright, I just didn't like his class. It needs work. Cut out all the group crap.
Good guy, and very dedicated to what he teaches. I's take one of his history courses simply because of his passion. I just did not like the subject. Digital humanities sucks donkey through a hose. I'd rather have a crocodile pin me down and suck on my dock than ever take another DH class. buck this class, and buck UTD for making me take it.
Professor Wright is a great teacher in the aspects of Digital Humanities who should be congratulated for his hard work in making students smarter. His teaching may be hard to students and make them feel uncomfortable with the subject, but the intentions and results show that it actually helps you learn and promote your career in many ways.
Another book-smart, pretty boy, by the book enthusiast, with an overblown elitist ego leading the charge of a class to feel important. Others in the class who may have thought differently from him suffered for it, but more than that favoritism came into play throughout the term. From what I observed, suck up a little and stroke the ego you'll be ok
This was a tough class but I learned a lot and had fun with the content. You can't skate by in this class but if you work hard you will be glad you did.
Professor Wright genuinely cares about teaching, and wants you to learn. This class was challenging, but I pushed myself and ended up being surprised by what I was able to accomplish. There is a lot of work, but he gives you options on which weeks you have a paper due, which I appreciated. Come to class, push yourself, try. You will do fine.
This class was amazing, by far the best history class I've ever taken. If you don't like writing papers, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! There are no tests at all, but a paper due every week for the first ten weeks. Dr. Wright is a seriously cool person, his class is super interesting! Participation is important and final project is worth a lot.
Really helps you become a better writer, but be prepared to actually be engaged in the work that you do in the class. I don't think you can do well by just being passive and apathetic. Dr. Wright's a very engaging and approachable professor though, so as long as you put in effort, you'll do fine.
This course is one of the most rewarding in my academic career thus far. The beginning of the class is definitely a lot of reading and writing;but, it builds the necessary foundation needed to shape the course to the student's own interests and succeed later in the course. The final project is intimidating, but truly ignites self motivation.
Lot's of writing in the beginning of the semester, one weekly paper 600-800 words in length. You can skip some of them however. The final project is a huge part of your grade, but he gives plenty of advice and even if you don't accomplish what you wanted to you can still get a good grade. He offers decent feedback, is funny. Overall fantastic.
(Digital Humanities is not really a "history" course.) A majority of the course is in-class discussion. Dr. Wright is passionate about his work and wants to make the class enjoyable & valuable. Being thoughtful about the material and sharing/participating are keys to success. The class is interesting enough to make those easy.
Great professor, highly recommend. Very passionate about his job. Decent amount of work. For each of the first 10 weeks, you'll read 2-3 articles before class, discuss them in class, and then write a 600-800 word reflection. After first 10 weeks, you'll work 6 hrs/wk outside of class on a Digital Humanities research project. Great resume booster.
Intelligent, enthusiastic professor who loves history. Very reasonable amount of work, not too much or too little. Easy weekly quizzes over chapters, he is clear on what he wants to see on essays and tests. He is a fair grader and gives good, detailed feedback. He wants to see you learning, participate in class, work hard, and you'll do great.
Dr Wright is a very caring and educated professional. He enjoys teaching history and his passion for history is a clear indicator for this. Essays could be tricky sometimes but Dr. Wright is ALWAYS willing to help you and will sometimes go out his way to help you. Please go to class and reviews for the written midterms. Good Luck.
Well structured class and lectures are interesting. Take this class if you actually want to learn something, not if you want an easy A. If you want to get a good grade then show up to class.
Professor Wright is the bees knees. He really cares about teaching and he really cares about his students. You will write essays in his class. I hate writing and did fine. He grades fairly and gives good feedback. You will learn in this class if you want to. Also, the textbook is free!!! (Show up, attendance is taken)
He's a really great professor who clearly cares a lot about the wellbeing of his students. He's funny in class and makes history enjoyable.
He clearly loves his job and it really shows in his lectures. I don't like history classes much but he made it entertaining.
He is the best history teacher I have ever had and one of the best teachers I've ever had in terms of enthusiasm and passion for his work and his students. You work for the grade, but it's not hard. Weekly quizzes, three essays, and two exams consisting of short responses. Come to class, study for the exams, and you'll do fine.
Professor Ben Wright's passion for history really shows in his lectures. His lectures are interesting, the class discussions are engaging, and it is super fun. He really pushes you to think critically and express your thoughts. The class is simple. Things to look out for: 2 essay exams, 2 long essays, 1 final essay. The grading is lenient.
His class is a lot of fun. There are weekly quizzes which he gives you 10 chances to bring up to a 100, 3 essays (2 medium length and 1 2500 words), and 2 in class exams. He basically gives you the answers to the exams in class so it is quite hard to do badly. He is quite accessible outside of class and is knowledgeable about different work fields.
He is one of the best professors you will have. He is so motivated to teach and interact with his students. However, his class is very essay heavy, and he can be a hard grader. It is very important to do ALL the weekly quizzes, you get 10 chances to do them and it helps you be able to lose points on essays. Beware: the final is 40% of the grade.
Ive had professor Wright 2 years in a row for 2 different classes, best professor ive ever had. He really cares about what he does and it shows in his lectures, ive never been bored in his class. If you show up to class and take notes, easy A. The essays are graded easy as well, trust me you want him as a professor.
Professor Wright truly is different than most professors at UTD. He truly lectures with passion for the subject, and his desire for his students to actually find the subject material interesting makes him very valuable. His lectures aren't slide based, so make sure to attend class! He is very prompt with his grading and very accessible.
Professor Wright is an amazing professor. We had a lot of papers but he gives great feedback. He is really accessible outside of class. Once, I turned in my essay at 6:00pm and he had it back and graded by 8:00pm.
Professor Wright teaches necessary skills to ensure students' success beyond just the specific class.
Dr. Wright is an exceptional prof! I had him for the honors Digital Humanities course. I expected to grind mindlessly for core credit, but actually enjoyed learning about something new. He grades the *weekly* papers fast, and the final project was a chance for me to get out of my comfort zone (you create a novel work of digital scholarship).
He cares SO SO much about history and his students. You really feel engaged and moved by his lectures. Course has mostly essays for grades.
Wright is an amazing professor, he truly cares about the material that he teaches and works to get all of his students to understand and care about what he is teaching. There are weekly quizzes with soft deadlines, only 3 essays and a Choose Your Assignment. I would recommend going to lectures, as that is what he wants you to pull from in essays.
He genuinely cares about the material, which makes this class super fun to discuss and study. I recommend attendance, we had plenty of time for the exams (take home), but they were strictly on lecture material. Lectures can be attended online with covid and all, but not recorded. I highly recommend him as a prof.!
This class was just essays on essays on essays. Not worth taking this class with this professor at UTD, I'd recommend taking it at a nearby community college. Professor treats this class like it's the most important class in the world. Lecture's were fine, very informative, but he talks fast so there's not much time to write everything down.
Wright is an amazing professor himself and makes the lectures interesting. However, he makes the class unnecessarily workload heavy when its time for midterms. Be ready to write so much that your brain explodes. That being said, the essays were graded pretty lightly. The essays require info pulled only from the lectures. Very intense class
The professor is good, he knows what he is talking about. His lectures are interesting. But the workload for the class is really heavy. Especially around finals and midterms. There are a lot of essays that you have to write, but they're not graded too hard. Make sure you pay attention to the lecture they will be helpful for the essays.
An AMAZING professor. Cares a lot about his job and students. Attendance is not mandatory everything can be done virtually (lectures, discussion sessions with TA, 14 quizzes, 2 exams, final project, final essay). Work is heavy and the information must be from lectures only so you must take notes as it is not recorded. Fast grading and easy reach.
Do not take this class if you want an easy class!!! Beware lots of work. You MUST attend lectures, you will not do well if you just read. He wrote the Textbook, and he talks about material not in the book in class so he'll know if you attend or not. This is a very time intensive course for a low level basic class. relatively easy but time consuming
This is the worst intro class I've ever taken. First thing he said was he purposefully made it harder than it needs to be. I wrote 20 pages for a final, and still only got a B because it was "not enough information". He makes really weird jokes about how much he hates himself. Do yourself a favor and just take it at collin.
Don't take this proff if you want a regular history class. He will make sure this class is your hardest class of the semester, this is coming from a CS Senior. Not even my 4xxx level classes ask as much as he does. Doesn't record lectures, tests are based off lectures. TONS of assignments. Acts like its the most important course ever, stay away!
I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone who is not a history major. He makes it super hard for absolutely no good reason. lectures are not recorded and technical difficulties always arise so he will just tell you to come to class, but if you go to class you're forced to wear a mask. *facepalm*
Dr.Wright is a good professor, but you have to be very engaged in his lectures to do well. Participation in a weekly discussion based off a lot of readings from old English sources. Two exams, each consisting of 3 essays, along with a final essay and then a "creative" project. Pay attention & take good notes you can get an A or B but requires work.
Easily the hardest class I've taken so far and it's a core class. Professor Wright is an energetic but disorganized lecturer, making it very hard to find real value in his lectures. All essays are meant to be based on lectures. By the end of the class, ended up writing a total of around 35 pages of essays. Fairly easy grade but not worth the work.
Please stay away. So many essays and absolutely no leniency with grading and does not care at all if other circumstances arise. He thinks this is the most important class you will take and so makes it his duty to give you numerous unnecessary assignments for this intro class. Have to take notes and participate in random sessions outside of lecture.
No lecture videos, not much resources besides textbook. He talks way too fast. very well structured and very well prepared for his lectures, but this overall class was one of my worst classes I've ever taken. His tests are writing essays. 2 exams, 1 choose your own assignment essay, primary sources essay, final essay. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
Dr. Wright is a really cool guy! He knows his stuff and genuinely cares for his students. That said, I have never had more homework for a class before. This may be because I am not a history major and I took an upper level history class though. He is super flexible and a lenient grader. He gives great feedback and wants you to succeed!
I am not sure why this professor has such a high rating. If you are close to the TA then you will receive a high grade. If you are not then you won't. Simply put. I really think that this professor is not good. Take this course at community college. AVOID THIS CLASSSSS. I can't stress this enough.
Lecture Heavy. Make sure to take Notes. Lots of stuff to complete for this class during finals, so if you're planning on doing a core credit class and getting something out of the way, then you'll have less work at a community college.
The best way to perform well in Dr. Wright's classes is to engage with the material properly. It's annoying sometimes, but going to extra lectures and outside events or participating in problem sections helps you to get a more complex understanding. It's ok to occasionally miss lectures, but you should read to make up for it.
Very good professor!! Very kind to students and understanding.
Professor Wright is a great professor because he truly cares about his students. The class does require substantial reading, but he helps you understand what you've read and grades more on participation than anything else. As long as you show up and contribute to the class during discussions, you will do well.
Ben Wright is probably one of the most accessible professors UTD offers. His lectures are thorough and offer good notes for the exam. He lets you know what is and isn't important for the final exams; class notes are a bit hard to follow because he covers a lot during his lectures. He also has after-class support for any questions about the course.
Way too much work for a history class honestly. Like not terrible, if you try moderately hard enough, you will get an A but in comparison to some other history classes you could take at utd instead, way too much.
The most stressful, and most workload i've ever had from taking a history class. There are not many other resources you can use outside of the primary sources and the textbook. The professor speaks way too fast in class so it's difficult to differentiate what to write down. Work is extremely time-consuming. I do not recommend this class to anyone.
this class was okay, you definitely need to go to the lectures and take notes if you want to pass this class. Most of the work is writing assignments where you are proving you know the content of the class. The class is interesting though, so if you enjoy history take him for sure his lectures are interesting
So much work for no reason
This professor has classes but the TA matters more. There are 2 test each for 20 percent and one final exam for 25 percent. These matter the most.
Dr. Wright is awesome and his lectures were very entertaining which I really appreciated as someone who has always struggled with history. I would recommend staying caught up with lectures and putting some energy into the major assignments well ahead of time to make sure they do not catch you off guard.
Amazing lecturer, I have never seen a professor so passionate before. Course was pretty easy assuming you take decent notes, although your exam grade is at the mercy of the TA. Exams are free response with a cheat sheet (and you know the questions ahead of the time if you go to the review session). Really interesting class would take again :)
Dr. Wright is an entertaining lecturer and knows how to convey as much information as possible in a short amount of time. It is important to take notes during each lecture because they can be useful for the cheat sheets for the written exams. The review sessions give away what's gonna be on the exam, so make sure to attend them. Easy class overall.
The class is super fun, even if you do not like history! Some assignments can be daunting and seem like a lot of work. They are, but you get walked through them well, and Professor Wright is always there when you need him. I would say that the most helpful part of this class was the discussion sessions, which carried my grade.
It's a lot of reading and you HAVE to be there to take notes in the lecture because the class is self-contained, you can't find anything on google. Weekly open book quizzes online, the tests are three random essay questions taken from discussion questions provided throughout the semester. You get a cheat sheet on the essays but it's not easy.
BEST PROFESSOR I HAD HANDS DOWN. COMING FROM A STEM MAJOR THIS GUY IS LIFE CHANGING.
TERRIBLE PROFESSOR. when i tell you he's bad, he is BAD. extremely tough grading, extremely arrogant and will never think he is wrong. Doesnt explain what you did wrong in the essay but gives out feedback as if he rules the world. Doesnt care about his students at all and makes the class unecessarily difficult.
He is so arrogant! I have never met a professor who makes the class unbearable this way. if you care about your mental health please dont take him
i actually have never hated anyone more. extremely annoying
hate him so much
THE WORST professor ever. He is so boring and thinks his class is the most important and life changing class ever...like yeah its HISTORY. all the information he occupies is on google, and still he acts so special. so so so not worth it. dont take him!!!!
He doesn't allow phones at all and grades extremely strictly. We can only use his lectures for info, yet he also says not to use the lectures in essays, so everyone ends up with bad grades. Honestly, 80% of the class was tired of his shenanigans. As a STEM major, I worked harder for this than more important classes. Hes so annoying lol
This professor acts like he is teaching the worlds most important class, and grades as if it even matters. A joke of a class to be in, and simply just avoid him at all costs.
CONFUSING class and weirdest professor ever. Makes it unecessarily difficult to even bear the class, let alone get a good grade. Thanks for the gpa drop mr important historian ( no one knows him ) (ego complex)
I am not sure why this professor has such a high rating. If you are close to the TA then you will receive a high grade. If you are not then you won't. Simply put. I really think that this professor is not good. Take this course at community college. AVOID THIS CLASSSSS. I can't stress this enough
I just wanna say that Professor Wright is very arrogant to say the least, he has boring lectures that we have to be laser-focused on because the whole sum of the essay you have to write every week is all about that. It is also very confusing how to get a good grade on the essays because the rubric on length and content is not consistent at all.
So much work for no reason. The TAs grade horribly and are just plain annoying. They made a false claim about my friend and i and the professor believed the TA over hard proof of him being wrong. Just an arrogant and annoying person to be around. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
he does not care about his students AT all. Take any other professor at any college, but please save urself from this grown man who thinks his degree in history is actually important and life changing. Weird and arrogant and extremely offputting.
He makes the class unecessarily difficult. Two extra credit opportunities that range from 3000 to 5000 words each for JUST 5 marks each... and even on completion he grades so bad. Essays are graded harshly as if the students are supposed to know all this random information..
DO NOT TAKE IF YOU WANT TO PASS
Honestly this class is A LOT and it can feel very overwhelming but as time goes on it gets easier. Essays are definitely heavy work however he is very rewarding and as long as you try you will do good! Not sure why he has horrible ratings because he's honestly not a bad professor.
I did bad on the first couple of weekly essays, but I eventually got the hang of it. The weekly essays are graded based on how well you can make an argument, not necessarily on how closely you followed the lectures.
