Very Helpful
Good Teacher, He grades on curve. Final Exam was hard but because of the curve, it wasn't that bad
Self taught class. Missed over half the classes and still got a B. Final was actually easy. Chapters that have the most homework will have the most questions on the tests.
This teacher doesn't give you a lot of room to breathe, class is mostly self taught, and he just goes off the books slides. No homework, and no make-up points, or room to improve which is kind of sad.
A Very patient and compassionate teacher!
The worst teacher i've have ever had...period. The guy is unclear, and just ignorant. Have fun teaching yourself...thats what youll be doing!!! His tests are easy though.
For a hard class, it was pretty easy. The tests where easy, but had to put a lot of hard work into them. I could barely understand him, but he spoke very clearly. Though I didn't learn a lot, I came out with a lot of good information.
He's so clueless! The class is very easy, mostly self taught. if students request to change the test/project date, he will! Just do the homework problems, and you'll be fine. 1 project due end of semester. 3 multiple choice tests including final. He's very nice and helpful.
Very boring, not helpful, sucks..... dont take him
His tests were a Joke, Do the practice problems before each exam and read the power point slides and you will get an A. His accent is a little difficult at times, but he goes out of his way to make sure you understand the material. i would definately take him again, fair, easy and helpfull
i half assed the project, didnt take any of the quizzes and im pretty sure i bombed the final and still passed with a C. 3 multi choice tests arent so bad but i didnt do well on final at all. dont bother going to class cuz youll just fall asleep. read book or powerpoint and its good enough
Great professor, nice guy. you can tell hes a genuine guy unlike so many other professors here. He makes the effort for the class to do well. Its not exactly the most entertaing class but what SOM class is? Just do the practice problems and review the powerpoints and you should be fine. definitely take it.
Waste ot time dont take this class you will learn nothing!!
if you can avoid taking this class with Abrams do it because he will fail you.
do not take this class. he does not know what he is talking about. he is not a good professor and i think he should get fired because no one like him in my class and almost everyone give him bad review
One of the worst classes, you will fall asleep. A lot of work, heavy material and no curving the exams. Took forever to get the grades. Had A's on all the midterms, did well on the final and still got B- in the class? Could not understand a word, think accent. Such a waste of time and tuition money. Makes me wonder how some of these professors got
Teaching style sucks as he basically reads everything off the slides. Hard to understand at times. Tests were hard even though you could bring in formulas.
Hard subject, hard exams! no extra credit.
It seems ppl are just lazy these days. Its a hard subject! he makes it as easy as possible and teaches the material. you gotta study your part too, i was borderline and he bumped me up to the B, because i always attended class. show him you care and he will take care of you.
Cares about the students. He wasn't an expert in the subjects covered but he tried his best to explain. Not a hard grader but not that easy at the same time. Just hope for a hard working team and you should do fine in the class.
YOU HAVE TO BE AT EVERY SINGLE CLASS MEETING. He takes attendance every class (even with 140 students...) He gives random quizes (especially when no one is there) & will not let you make them up. He is not very clear, but will take the extra time if you go to his office hours. Not the best teacher I've had in COBE.
Very friendly guy. not sure why everyone is bashing him on this site. I found the class to be simple with little effort. He DOES take roll and give pop quizes. I missed at least 60% of classes and all but 2 quizes, got d's on the exams, half-a**ed the excel project and got a c+ in the class. If he fails you u are an idiot.
Very Nice just hard to understand. You have to be at every class meeting and if you want an A you have to participate regularly. Talk to him before you submit your cases, he will guide you in the right direction. Sit close and talk to him often your grade will reflect the difference I assure you.
I don’t know why some people bash him, he is actually a very nice guy and cares about his students, doesn’t talk much or explain a lot on his own but if you ask him he is always happy to help. The class is not really hard just busy work, if you do your work you should get at least a B because he is not a hard grader at all, just show him that you a
Good Prof. not too hard or too easy. If you do the homework you have nothing to worry about, you will get at least a B. The people who gave bad comments are the D students who don't want to do any work, so if your one of those don't take his class. Overall he is a good prof. accent is not that bad, quizaes are easy and the exam are fair.
Take him during winter... best decision I ever made. It's hard but it's much better than 15 weeks.
This professor is the best one out of all of the professors who teach bus 302. He is really helpful and answers all of your questions. Yes it is a hard class but you have to do all of the work. It's not an easy A but trust me, take it with him during winter and you will pass. He is a very nice teacher and you will not regret it if you take him.
He is nice teahcher. I took him during Winter 08 and pretty happy. It's not an easy class, you have to work, but it's not all that bad as it sounds.
Taking this class during the Winter session is the best decision I could have ever made. This class is extremely hard and you have ro work for your grade. I seriously could not imagine what it is like taking this class during a regular semester. This professor overall is very helpful and very nice, also very fair grader. I'm happy!
Not the best, not the worst. He has a nice personality but his lectures are boring. You need to do all the homework to be able to succeed in this class.
Not a hard class but his tests are tricky. I studied for the final for about 20 hours and I still failed it. at night classes, he gives quizes at the second half, so you cant ditch halfway through- and thats what caused me to bomb the class. overall good teacher, but i got a D, but an A is still within reach if you study hard (6 hours+ a week)
University professors don't get much easier than this. Tests and quizzes are elementary (right off the slides) and there is just one term project. Communication could be an issue for some, but there is lots of good info in the book.
Isn't the easiest class. Professor was not too bad. You do need to attend class to get the extra 30 points because he is tricky when giving the quizzes. When everyone leaves, he give the quiz. Keeps you all night so intend to stay the whole length of the class cuz he will give a quiz the last 15 min of class.
Took him in Spring 2009 for gateway. He is a fairly easy grader. Most of the students get like at least a B in most of the project. Most of the projects that my team did was like B+, but I participated every class and turn in the participation form and I ended up getting an A-.
This is a great teacher and from what others have told me about other prof. Dr. A was easy going. I am not going to lie, you will work hard in Gateway. Take 302L before if you can. It is a lot of work! Dr. Abrams expects quality not quantity. I learned so much from him. I will truly miss his class. TAKE DR. A FOR GATEWAY!
The most boring class ever!!! The accent is horrible, the prof. reads only from his slides, tests are very tricky. Keeps the class all night but half of the class would fall asleep. very hard grader... If you are fine with self-learning then you might get a good grade in his class... Good luck
Good teacher and helpful class. I can say that the gateway class is the busiest course in my college life so far, but it is very helpful in my future, though. The professor had clearly stated what we should do on his website, so just follow that, and a good grade is attainable.
Gateway is a hard class, but if you follow is way you will be okay. He explains every step, and he is always available for his students and ready to answer any question. His class was fun.
I don't know about his gateway class but his SOM class was OK. His lectures are based off the book. MC tests that are based off of materials from the book as well. He does have an accent but not hard to decipher since he reads off the slides. You must either 1) not be reading the book or 2)not coming to class to not pass this class. Easy B

The HOTTEST professor at this school. Realy easy but boring. A lot of group work invloved and i got stuck with a terrible one.
Very nice teacher. He will do all he can for you to do well but you have to do your part. Project is pretty easy and you must read the book and do your homework in order to do well on the tests. He keeps you the entire class period, don't expect to leave early he gives his quizzes at the end of class. Boreing lectures but a great teacher.
uses powerpoint, exams are somewhat hard. does surprise quizzes so be sure to attend class and stay till the end. If you need the SOM book i have it (great condition), txt or call 310-405-9257
Abrams is a great prof, you must take him for gateway. IT will be Wise decision, i took him last sem. and got an A in the class, the class is a lot of work, no exams offcourse but he is willing to help if you ask for it!
As long as you get a good group, you will really enjoy this class and will succeed. I HIGHLY recommend Prof. Abrams for Gateway. He has got to be the best Gateway professor. You have 4 written cases and 1 group presentation. Again, the work is very minimal and easy as long as your group works well together and everyone does their part!!
Really nice professor. He will help you as much as he can. His expectations for the assigned cases are high, but if you are on a good team you will do fine. I recommend taking him, but be ready to work. If you are on a bad team, it can be a lot of work and very challenging.
I'm glad I took Gateway with Prof. Abrams. He competently conducted his lectures and was conveniently available whenever help was needed. I also had an efficient and cooperative team, which made the whole Gateway Experience worthwhile.
he's a nice guy - not too difficult, not too lenient. i'd recommend him for Gateway.
He's a pretty good professor, but he doesn't give you straight answers. Overall, not ba, but not great. Gateway is a lot of work, so don't slack off and be hopeful you get a decent group to work with.
OMG I miss this class. He's so nice and honestly he's a good professor. Gateway is such a hard class and I was so worried before taking it. His class became my favorite class. He expects very good and detailed work. You have to be good at team work and make a good team. He does care about attendance and gives extra credit for it and participation.
Dr. A was a great professor. Quite boring lectures, but thats how bus302 goes with any professor. Easy grader in my opinion, if you put the required amount of work you can get an A.
Best gateway professor! No mandatory attendance, very clear, loves teaching & his students, always welcomes students to come see him at his office hours, responds to emails very quickly. Gateway is a very tough course, but Mr. A made it very enjoyable. I had to say hello to him after the course and thank him for teaching me so much! Highly recc!
He is okay... Get on his good side. Attendance is mandatory because he takes attendance and it's a part of your participation. Not the best, but probably not the worst for bus302. Also make sure you get a good group!
his lectures r boring, late on turnin the work back. overall easy class if u ask he ll help. u dont need to be in group of nerds to get an A. if everyone does lil bit of work u ll be just fine. almost 50% grade is individual but he grades lil hard on writings. very nice character ll recommend
I really dont understand why his rating is good. His lectures are very unclear and what bothered me most was that he favored some students and they always always get good grades. If you want to get a good, you should be his favorite student. Otherwise, you will never get an A no matter how much efforts you put.
Grading is very strict, do not expect to get 100% on anything. His lectures are very boring and the material is pretty much useless. The bulk of the class is group assignments, including two presentations and 5 written case reports. Like everyone else says, I'm so glad I'm done with Gateway!!!
The class stinks, it's not very easy especially if it has been a while since you have taken stats. However, he is the best guy to take it with. He really tries to make it understandable. You have to stay to the end of class as he gives pop quizzes.Do all the HW or you will have a hard time on the test.
Super Chill professor. Im currently taking him. No regrets so far compared to some of the other less then noteworthy business profs. If you have to take gateway i would rec this guy.
The class is fine don't let other scare you as long as you get a good group you will pass, you dont need the packet from the bookstore all the materials are online. the teacher is ok not the most helpful unless you ask specific questions, always ask questions otherwise he wont help much.
Abrams attempts to explain many things but often it doesn't come accross as easily understandable. Cases aren't too bad if you have a good group, which is very important. Grading is fairly easy but don't expect to get an A in this class. B/C are definitely plausible
Very nice teacher, with great knowledge of subject matter, all you need to do is to be interested in learning and ask smart questions. Show some interest in teachers subject matter and don't text in class and it will not be boring. Great teacher, I would recommend to getaway student who want to learn.
This class is all about working in groups. Professor explains what you need to do. Not much teaching and he doesn't hold your hand. It helps if your group is diversified in different majors (IS, accounting, econ, etc). 2 presentations, 3-5 case essays, and some little stuff. Ask questions for participation. You'll be fine.
Took Gateway over the summer. This class is all about group work. We did 4 cases, 1 of them being a group presentation. The professor is nice and answers any questions you might have. Participation will play a huge role in your grade so ask questions during every class session! He also takes attendance.
He's super nice & understanding if you received a bad group. He answers all questions & expects class participation. The class is straightforward but if you get a bad group filled with awful writers, you will have a really hard time. Overall a good prof, the class is just difficult because it's all about teamwork.
He's a nice professor, but seriously a self taught class. Your grade is based on your group so make sure you are in a group class. Oh be careful you intellectually challenge him, he switches personality. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
Be prepared to work your butt off. This class is very time consuming and the cases are difficult. I was lucky to be in a good group, but I still had to work very hard. Professor Abrams was very nice and didn't make the class more difficult. Be sure to ask questions in class because that is 14% of your grade.
Most boring class you will ever take. Goes over one topic for a 3 hour class but there's nothing else to talk about. Hands down the easiest professor for Gateway BUS 302, but he avoids answering questions at all costs.
He is one the better gateway teachers. He is lenient on getting the correct answer but focuses more writing style and how u got ur answers. He chooses ur group and almost every group in my class had a slacker. The good part is that you review your group after each case so you can tell the professor who did what. Take him and most likely get a B.
Tough grader. Class is based on group assignments. Make sure you have a good writer in your team; he pays attention to every single comma. The cases are made to confuse you rather then help. They take tremendous amount of time. His quality is average, not the best but not the worst professor. If your group sucks, you are in trouble.
He's not horrible but not amazing either. It really all depends on your group. He's really dry when coaching cases and definitely ask questions!!!!!
I was one of the rare few who received an A in his class. He only accepts quality work to qualify for a high grade and that brings out the best in the student. We had one group member who constantly burdened the group, but we made it clear to the professor so it did not affect our grades.
Hes fair, i got an "A" but so did my tea members, even though i put in much more work. I recomend taking him. If you have a good group or member in your up who is good, then u can get an A- or A pretty easily.
Professor had a great sense of humor and is extremely helpful if you visit him during his office hours. A lot of people say he doesn't give A's but I know of a few people including myself that all obtained A's. You just need to take his direction on paper/presentation and make it interesting. I enjoyed the professor and wish I could take him again.
I was very impressed by Professor Abrams and wouldn't hesitate to take his class again. Participate, be respectful, and hope that you get a solid team
This class is 5 group projects. He gives you case and you have to incorporate (BLAW,ACCT,ECON,STATS) all in one report. It does take a significant amount of time, but make SURE your writing and grammar is on point. Your group really does matter in determining your grade, but do your part or take it to the writing center to not get silly points off
Easiest grader for gateway, but he never helps or answers questions. He lets you out early most days. I was in a bad group yet we got C's on most papers while my friends were in smart groups with other professors, yet they also got C's and even D's. If you get a good group in Abrams class you can get a high grade, but with a bad group, it's tough.
Easiest grader for Gateway. Easy to pass. Very difficult to get an A. He plays favorites. If he doesn't like you or your group you will see it in your grade. He doesn't like it if you challenge him or his methods; Not a good sign for a college professor. I would never take him again even if you paid off all of my student loans.
Abrams is a really cool professor. I mean this class is all group work, so as long as the professor isn't out to get you, your grade depends on your group. Really nice guy!
The worst professor.... He is not fair at all. If he likes you, you will get a good grade, if not, forget it. He gave the same grade to one who studied really hard and the same grade to one who really didn't study that hard. The biggest mistake in my life, that I took his class.
Abrams is the best professor for Gateway. It's all group work and he will help your group if someone is causing a problem. It is an easy class, just make sure you participate because it is a large part of your grade.
Probably the best there is as far as Gateway is concerned. A genuinely nice guy that tries to help his students. Participate for free points
Avoid him if you can. He is the worse professor. I'm surprise CSUN decides to keep such teacher, as he is downgrades the high quality of the school. He has a very poor judgment for grading. No matter how hard you work for the grade, he is never satisfied. His lectures are not worthy of listening. His teaching & coaching skills are ZERO.
Okay, first of all, BUS302 is almost entirely group work. Abrams DID assign the groups but based on people's availability which is one of the best ways, I think. If you have a good group, you're set. Just make sure you ask LOTS AND LOTS OF QUESTIONS. I cannot stress that enough. Ask dumb questions, whatever. But ask him for help too and he'll help.
He doesn't seem to enjoy teaching this class at all. He gives misleading feedback on the course material, and grades on formatting more than content or effort. That is when he gets around to grading. The group experience of the course can be fun, but the lack of clear guidance or feedback makes the course extremely frustrating in the end.
He is so boring and speaks so monotone which doesn't help if you're going to take gateway. You aren't allowed to choose your group and he assigns you people based on a random questionnaire. He is no help. Make sure to go off the coaching slides because those help more than him.
If youre expecting an easy A, this isnt the professor to take. Professor Abrams really makes you work for it, and the entirety of the class is group based, so make sure you get a good group. He expected a lot out of a standard business class, would not take him again if given the chance.
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. DON'T TAKE HIM. YOU WILL REGRET IT
Very well spoken. He tells you from the beginning what to do and if you have questions he answers. he makes lots and lots of jokes and he keeps class entertained. sometimes we leave early. very good feedback on essays got As on everyone except 1st one i got a B. He lets you redo 1 essay at the end. Show up so you know what to do. Notes always on BB
He assigns a personality test and availability homework to determine the groups you will be put into. Overall, every assignment is a group project. His lectures are long and pointless but he doesn't care if you are on your laptop during class. Chill professor, I'd definitely take him again even though attendance is mandatory and don't get out early
You'll be put in groups by Abrams and do just case reports. It's critical you write down everything he says should be incorporated in the reports and use it as a check list. Then review the bus 302 and 302 L study material and incorporate that info in your reports. Wing it C. Research A. Ask him specific questions and participate once a day.
very unorganized and you can only pass if you been put in a good group.
Most unorganized teacher I have ever had. He is a very strict grader and does not offer any extra credit opportunities. Lectures are hard to follow. He expects superb oral communication skills when this is not even a Comm course.
I never took Professor Abrams for any other class besides SOM 485, took this class virtually on zoom and I am very satisfied with the course and his way of teaching this class in the virtual format. Online textbook which you will use for online homework. One class project, mid term and final. Great Professor for a challenging class. Very Nice!
Professor Abrams cares about his students however you should really work for a good grade. Most importantly, YOUR GROUP SHOULD BE GOOD! If you're unlucky to have free riders in your group then chances you get a good grade is low. Attendance is mandatory and he gives you points for attendance and participation. Also, tough grader.
this prof uses an attendance tracker on zoom, so if you leave early he will bring your grade down. you have to buy an access code to do the homework.
The professor wasn't bad just kinda boring and the coaching he does before the projects were very vague. The assignments are all group projects and you will randomly be assigned to a group. Hopefully, you are lucky and are assigned with people who do their fair share. Unlike me where I felt like I did most of the work.
He doesn't really matter in this class. You are put into groups based on availability which I thought was a flawed method. His lectures are very dry, but his grading is overall fair. You have two required written reports to do and a presentation. Groups suck and there are always slackers, but you get to grade their performance.
Very nice guy. He is very accommodating and understanding. Lectures are fairly boring, but compared to a lot of the other SOM professors out there, that doesnt matter. However, he requires you to to buy Cengage (a textbook subscription) and uses an attendance tracker. Not a bad class, just very boring and time intensive.
Easy class but very bad professor teaching wise. He teaches nothing. Everything is done based on ur knowledge. he grades harsh. @ his lecture u will sleep 4sure since it takes him 50 min to explain something that can be explained in 5 min. Doesnt reply to emails at all. 100% groupwork. Easy work but he makes it seem hard&confusing & doesn't help.
Pure group work. U need to do 3 business cases. Write 2 written reports as a group, and the one one u present. So 3 on total. Business cases are about economics, Stats mainly and little accounting ans business law. Boring teacher and useless. He doesn't teach anything and no book needed. Can get a B+ or so. All depends on ur teammates.
This professor does not explain the assignment and is more focused on rambling for the whole class time. This class consists of group assignment and it is not based on individual contribution, so even if your group does not help with the assignments they will end up receiving full credit. Overall not a good professor.
This is for the BUS 302 Lab it's not a physical class you attend, instead, you will show up to a classroom on campus and take economics, accounting, statics, and bus law--it's 6 separate exams. There is a Gateway Lab discord message RARE#3087. You can also google gateway bus lab and use the CSUN website to get study material and sample exams.
Professor Abrams is fair and provides all required material. Lectures are long and dual as any other data analytics class. Expect to download Rattle and Tableau. 6 HW assignments, mid term, 4 in class quiz's, group project (data modal), and final. Most assignments will be completed in Midtap. Recommend making friends quickly for technical support.
If you have sleeping problems professor Benham will be like a natural sleep aid. He will literally take the entire class time to explain 4 questions and everyone will be zoned out that his explanation would be pointless. Takes attendance randomly and beginning or end since people try to dodge his lectures. Easy grader though, but hes slow.
Prof Abrams is a sweet and great professor. He really cares about the success of his students but you must put in the work. Keep in mind that your group will make or break your grade since its all group work.
Actually, terrible professor doesn't teach anything attendance is mandatory completely disrespectful and disorganized in class take anyone but him please.
Couldnt be worse or more unorganized
This guy doesnt even know how to manage his own class will blame things on you that is not your fault and hurts the whole class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. If you have Mac good luck with excel because he will not help you or guide you. He takes interest in failing students and does not help at all. Very disappointed in CSUN to allow a professor with no professionalism.
Class Lectures were not clear as he does not explain well and moves fast. It was hard for most students to keep up and follow along. But you have to follow along because you never know when he will make the in class assignment into a pop quiz that you have to turn in by the end. Does not speak very clearly so be prepared to ask for clarification.
Not too many SOM485 reviews so here's it. Not bad, not great either so far. Weekly quizzes/HW, group project, midterm and a final. Monotone voice, occasionally cracks a joke and brings a laugh. Only take him if you have too though. He's the only one who teaches 485. Strict attendance and will even retake if he notices empty seats. Best of luck
Class covers Business Analytics, some R Studio, Tableau, and Excel. He's a slide show reader but will usually give good IRL examples as he has industry experience. $150 Cengage sucks tho :(. Nice guy, i'd give him a C rating as a professor. If your not somewhat tech savvy, you may struggle as he doesn't help too much with technical support.
There is nothing wrong with this professor; he is kind, relaxed, and is willing to help. If you follow the instructions, study a little (open note tests) you can easily get an A. He makes the final data project so easy by providing us with the data. The class is a little boring at times but it is nothing compared to other classes.
I don't understand the hate—he's an awesome professor. He genuinely cares about his students and goes out of his way to help during office hours. He's a fair and relaxed grader who shares not only Excel knowledge but also tips for professional growth. Take him—you'll gain more than just class credit.
Pretty nice class. Assignments were really easy & exams were open book. Lectures can be pretty boring but it's important to pay attention because he has quizzes at the end of every class. He didn't give us a lot of time to complete the class project but it was pretty easy and actually kinda fun. I genuinely learned a lot & I enjoyed the class.
He is oldschool in both good and bad ways. Surprisingly strict about attendance, you need to stay the whole time, every class. Weekly hw are simple and mostly focused on Excel. Group project depends a lot on your group, good luck. Exams are open book but be aware of pop quizzes. His class is fair and worth taking. You will actually learn something.
1 midterm, 1 final(both open notes), 1 presentation (choose a good group), and a lot of hw (I took his class over summer). He's very approachable, if you have a hard time understanding something, he'll take his time to explain it. Getting an A isn't hard as long as you actually put in some effort. Just stay on top of the work and you'll be fine.
Great teacher, took a night class, it was boring but easier class than other teachers, that teach bus312
Attendance is mandatory and pop quizzes are given, so you NEED to be there every class. Took his night class 7pm-9:45pm and honestly it was a little boring but he is really nice and funny. He cares about the students. All homework/quizzes/exams are on your laptop in class. LOTS of homework labs every week. 1 group project, get a GOOD GROUP!
