Not a single essay all semester!

This class is super easy, but very interesting. You have to go to his class everyday if you want a good grade. Otherwise you have to read the book. The class essay was very easy, and the tests are easy (multiple choice!).

Best teacher I've had, hands down. He has the greatest, funniest stories. I never wanted to miss a class.

Great speaker, wonderful storys, go to class and expect to be taking non stop notes for an hour and 1/2 but the time flys by. If I could do it again Id take him with a smaller class.

Mr. Benson is a great Anthro teacher. I only wish that he hadn't gotten in an accident and lose his ability to teach our class for half the semester. I am actually considering switching to Anthropology as my major thanks to this class.

Benson is intelligent and funny but likes to hear himself talk. He's very clear on what he requires and it's not too difficult to get an A if you study for the tests. His lectures are often interesting and funny, especially if you're into anthro- I wasn't into it before but he made it barable.

This guy is the best teacher Ive had in the 22 classes Ive taken at the JC. He is very passionate about his profession as an anthropologist and that, I think, makes a good teacher.

The best teacher I have ever had! Very clear. Tells you exactly what you need to know in order to do well on the tests. Very passionate about anthro. Lectures are very interesting as well. Tests are very easy if you pay close attention to his lectures and read the assigned material. He ain't no wangsta when it comes to anthro.

He is more intelligent than anyone can truly comprehend (nationally recognized). Great story teller, reasonable tests- makes learned fun and entertaining for a subject I really did not care for. I highly recommend him to those who don't like school (my BF was one, and he loved Benson).

Very intriguing man, very interesting lectures. He is really really intelligent and he makes you smarter just by being in his class. All you have to do is go to the class, take the notes, and be coherent and you will get a good grade.

Very entertaining and informative teacher. He is animated and full of interesting anthro-related stories that kept me attentive through most of the class. He also incorporates a lot of review into his lectures, thus reitterating past points he has covered, which is very helpful in hammering home the info. All around great class!

Gives minimal homework, and moderately difficult tests with study guides. The key to getting a good grade in this class is attendance, because tests are based almost entirely on lecture material.

He is a GREAT teacher. The class material is hardcore, but he presents it in a way that makes it fun and interesting. He always is willing to talk and help you understand. For the subject, his tests are fairly straight forward and easy. This isn't an easy class- material wise, but he makes is as clear and fun as possible.

He's a great teacher and i highly reccommend him. A lot of notes and material to cover but the tests are fairly east and hardly any homework.

Cmpletely awesome. Very funny, keeps your attention, and is more than happy to explain things when you're confused. I learned a lot in his class. Also, very hard to fail his class because there's almost no homework and the exams are multiple choice.

In case you couldn't tell, this teacher is amazing. He captured your attention and makes you want to learn. The only downside to this is attendance is EXTREMELY MANDATORY. But that really only makes the class that more exciting. He always ends the class on a cliffhanger. A great entertainer.

He's a great teacher. Kept me entertained and interested during class. Tests weren't as easy as I thought they would be, half of it is main concepts you learned in class other questions aren't that easy. I studied right before class for about 20min and managed to get C's on the midterms. Know the topics, and writers and main concepts of the article

This Guy is a total badass. He seriously knows what he's talking about and he is really good at making sure you know what he's talking about. The class is fun, interesting and entertaining. Gotta go to class and gotta study but if you do you will learn a lot and enjoy the material. Highly recommend this class.

Benson is like an HBO saga, he leaves you coming back for more. Take his classes in order and i bet it would be amazing (Anthro 1 to 32 to 43), it'll be like watching Sopranos from start to finish. I wish i would've but I took them backward- 43 to 32, now working my way to 1. Like watching the six season first. He's hard but incredible.

Prof. Benson know's his subject from top to bottom. Also, the fact that he's so passionate about it really showed and made the class much more enjoyable. Anthropology is a class that could easily be ruined with a bad teacher. Benson is the opposite. If you are taking anthro at the JC, Benson really is the only way to go. Take him.

Wow. I'm just in awe everytime I attend this class. I've only missed one day and when I missed it I felt like crap. Every class of his is SO incerdibly fascinating and he teaches beautifully with LOTS of HUMOR and personal stories. Such a passion for it and the way he teaches is so animated. There's basically no hw too. I HIGHLY recommend the class

This teacher is awesome. He loves what he does and it makes the experience even more enjoyable for you. His midterms are tough if you didn't study for them but he always gives you a outline of what will be on the test. If you are thinking about taking ANTHRO 1 definitely take Benson.

Dude... this teacher is incredible. The tests aren't hard if can answer everything on the study guide. Yes, that's aright, a detailed study guide. It's also easy to retain the information because of the passionate way he speaks. I've had FOUR anthropology teachers at SRJC, and he is by far my favorite. Because of him, I'm now an anthro major.

This teacher is excellent, I took it for transfer credits, was pleasantly surprised. He teaches lecture style in a storytelling fashion that's very engaging and question provoking. Answers questions effectively. I felt like I was at UC Berkeley when I was taking this guy. DO IT.

Really fun class! Ben makes it exciting and interesting! You become mesmerized when he tells stories of his life and travels - this man has done everything. The class had only 2 small assignments and 3 exams - so you better do well on the exams!

TAKE EXTREMELY GOOD NOTES! Textbook is a supplment to his lectures. Not much HW. Dont waste $ on workbook if you can photocopy someone, only use 2-3 times. Some extra credit opportunities, but will only give you 1-5 pts. Test based on lectures, can be tough if you dont pay attention in class and have crappy notes.

This is the best teacher I have ever had. He's interesting and worldly and makes even boring topics interesting. He is respectful of everyone and of all beliefs, I don't know what these other people are talking about. His first lecture is actually on respecting the cultures and beliefs of everyone. Benson is a real anthropologist. Definitely someone to take if interested in this field. Study from notes and learn terms well- - he hands out study sheets days before tests. In class essays required for second part of exams.

I have just a couple more weeks in this class before the semester is over and I'm so sad!Although Benson's tests are difficult and it's a lot of information to memorize(because intro to anthro is so BROAD) I feel like I've spent my time well and learned a lot. The lectures are very interesting and important for the tests. If you just buy the work book you will probably do fine. The tests are pretty much lecture base and there are only a homework assignments in which you can find the answers easily elsewhere. Overall good class. It's interesting, not exceedingly difficult, and light on homework.

Mr. Benson is a great teacher! Very entertaining lectures. Always full of energy and you can tell right off that he loves what he teaches. The only criticism I have is that all the information we get in every lecture gets to be huge by the time we get to a test it all builds up. It can be overwhelming.

Mr. Benson is an amazing etcher. I just finished the fall 2012 semester with him and I must say it was just great. There were 3 tests and 1 essay question and very little HWK. Gives extra credit opportunities. Tests are hard because they cover a ton of information, but if you study, take notes, and read the books you will be fine. GREAT TEACHER!!!

Truly inspiring teacher! He is very interested in passing on information. He rarely assigns homework, gave lots of extra credit, gives study guides for tests. LOTS of note taking, DON'T miss a class, theres a lot of info in just one day. His tests are not easy and always about 100 questions.

Ben Benson's intro to anthropology is one of the best courses that I have ever taken. I go to class because I love learning from HIM, his style is incomparable and his stories are so entertaining. I never left a lecture feeling disappointed. He is funny, patient, passionate, understandable, approachable and gives lots of extra credit!

Very interesting man. Has very clear opinions on certain areas of anthropology and will make this evident throughout the semester. You will be graded on his perspective of certain anthropological data. Offers tons of extra credit! Not much homework. 3 exams, all a little on the tough side. Requires some studying/good note taking.

Professor Benson is an amazing teacher. After each lecture, the whole class would clap for him. Everytime,he would say the same thing, "Really? I get paid teach?" He is inspiring. Benson is a really good teacher. This is a lecture class and has a large class size, but Prof. Benson proves to be engaging and passionate. I didn't find the text book to be necessary; I took notes on his lectures and copied the slides. Tests are thorough but he covers all topics in the lectures. Overall, I would definitely recommend.

Best professor ever ...

Professor Benson is amazing if you can get into his class do it. He loves his subject and you can tell. His lectures though they are on the longer side are fantastic and I feel as though I got a real sense of not only the subject but also who he is. I came into his class not knowing much or what I wanted to do and I am now an Anthro major.

Benson is the best teacher I have had so far, definitely take a class with him! He is truly inspirational no matter what the lecture topic is. Tests can be tough but he is always helpful when you need it. Would definitely take his class again.

The man knows his material. I recommend recording his lectures and taking notes along with doing the reading. I don't think I've ever skipped going to class; he really grabs your attention.

Best professor I have ever had, really passionate about what he teaches and believes in his students. Curves grades heavy if you get a D chances are he will curve it to a C +. Has really cool stories that help you learn about what he is teaching. Ex. him living in the amazon. He is super cool guy, grade is 100% test based. Loved his class.

The lectures are amazing. One of the best classes I have ever taken and this isn't even in my field of study. You do need to do the reading assignments, particularly in the beginning, the lectures are mandatory, and he grades on 3 tests only -- though I think there was supposed to be an assignment he decided to skip. Very funny guy.

To achieve the A: I used his previous student aide as a tutor, his recommendation; a tape recorder for his live lectures filling in blanks in my in class notes; drew artifact pictures from his lectures with his emphasis to key identification details and visited the Native American Art Museum on campus completing drawing details from class notes.

You are missing out if you pass up taking Benson as a teacher! He is one of the most engaging professors I have ever had and he is an extremely interesting individual. I took Anthro1 and the entire class would often remark about being actually excited to come to the lectures every week. Make sure to take lots of notes and study hard for the exams!

Benson is one of my favorite professor I have had while at the JC. His lectures are actually interesting and the way he presents the information is fairly easy to follow. There are some readings you will have to do, and his tests are kind of difficult but the experience of having him as a professor out-weighs the work load. 10/10 MUST TAKE!
