He's really nice and passionate about his subject. He'll help you out as much as you ask. Voice is kind of annoying but as long as you do the homework the papers will come easy.
Drevlow is a very fun guy. That said there is homework due 3 times a week plus in class journals every time the class meets. On top of that there are 4 major essays that also make you do a second part which is really 4 more parts on top of the essay. If you do not want to put in the work do not take. He also grades somewhat difficultly
I had him this fall for english 1101. The class is not easy you have to put in work. As long as you do the homework and the in class journals you will be fine. If you are struggling with a paper send him an email he will give you as much help as you ask for and responds very quickly. He is very dedicated and passionate about what he does.
The Drevlow is probably one of the coolest professors I've ever had. His homework is long and repetitive sometimes but they help you write your papers. Between his lecture and homework he basically lays his essays out for you. If you go to class do the homework and pay attention to the lecture you'll get an A.
The Drevlow is one of the coolest professors I've ever had. His homework can get long and repetitive but it definitely helps you write your papers. Between his homework and lecture he basically lays out the papers you have to write for you. He's a laid back guy that wants to help but you have to put in the effort.
The Drevlow assigns tons of homework and attendance is mandatory for your grade, in addition to in-class journals and four major essay projects. However, if you keep up with all of the assignments, he tells you EXACTLY what to do for the projects and it is easy to make a good grade in the class. Don't take if you don't have the time.
Expects a lot , homework assignments everyday as well as in class journals. But the good thing is the assignments are never difficult and as long as you take the time do everyone assignment it is a nice cushion for your grade if you struggle with writing papers. Class can be boring but overall good teacher write a decent paper and do hw get an A.
You don't write many essays but he does require 5-6 pages of extras along with them. He's annoying and when you ask a question he'll give a ten minute explination (most of which isn't real helpful). If you're looking for an easy class his isn't it
Don't take this class if you want an easy A. You have to go to class, do the assignments (Which can mean up to 1000 words per assignment), and write 5 (long-ish) essays. Basically, don't take the class if you don't have the time or are willing to put in the effort. I made a B while taking 8 other classes.
Basically talks and talks and talks about nothing. Way too many assignments and requires a lot of time. If you can just take someone else
Don't take this class if you don't have a lot of extra time. The homework assignments due before EVERY class are time extensive. That being said, the homework itself isn't hard. He grades the essays pretty hard, but is totally willing to help you. The class is doable if you put time into it. I took it as a senior in high school and got a high A.
Hes a good teacher but his class is demanding . The work isn't super hard if you go the class and pay attention but the assignments are tedious and time consuming . Hes a tough grader so if you're looking for an easy A you wont get it here but he does place a lot of your grade on the improvement you show .
Drevlow is a sensitive dude. Therefore he is always helping students out. However, this class is still hard. He grades essays harshly and all of his assignments are time consuming. Only after spending all of my free time on his work was I able to make an A in the class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He basically says the same thing over and over in class a bunch of different ways to the point you get confused. Also, he will work your butt off. This was my most demanding class as you have daily homework that takes a long time and the papers are extremely demanding and he is a hard grader. Dont take the class.
Drevlow is easily my favorite professor down at Southern, yes, his classes are VERY demanding and he is a VERY demanding teacher, but as soon as your figure out what he wants, the As will keep rolling in. Just don't slack off in class because he offers to help you whenever possible.
Drevlow is one the the best English teachers I've ever had. Yes, he may be hard but if you truly want to get better at writing, which I believe is the point of the class, he is the professor to do it. The homework is redundant but it is helpful for when it comes to writing the essay and he is will to help at any time. I am so glad I took his class.
"The Drevlow" is a great guy. He tries to be helpful but rambles on every lecture and you basically have to decipher what he is trying to say. The homework is 100-500 word essays due every night before class and he is the pickiest grader on essays i have ever seen "show don't tell" seems to be his modo for life. you wont have a life for a semester.
Drevlow is a great teacher. He really cares about his job and students, but it is not an easy class. You really have to work hard to do well. There is homework every night and he is a tough grader when it comes to essays, but I learned a lot about becoming a better writer and that has helped me in other classes.
The Drevlow is no joke. I was already a strong writer going in to this and I really had to put some thought into what I wrote. But he is extremely fair and extremely clear, and gives you plenty of chances to succeed. I am a stronger writer because of this class. His sense of humor is snarky and funny.
The Drevlow is a great professor who truly cares about his students, but do not take this class if you are looking for an easy A. There is homework every night and he is very picky when grading papers. Class can be boring and he tends to ramble, but overall he is a great professor and you will become a much better writer if you take his class.
"The Drevlow" is a horrible teacher. He drones on about the same thing over multiple classes. He gives homework assignments that require minimum of an hour to do and is horribly picky about grading essays. He tries to be approachable but will only yell at you for a reasonable excuse. If you can have another professor, take their class, he is awful.
The drevlow is very picky about grading essays. No excuse is acceptable for missing class. He doesn't care if you have a family emergency or not you have to show up or he takes off 10-20 points each time.Even if you go to the writing center he still could fail you on your essay. If you are not a gifted writer and willing to work DO NOT TAKE THIS!!!
This guy was something else! (in a good way) Even though his assignments were tedious and somewhat difficult it was doable. He made me a better writer and I'm actually grateful for taking this class. And he gives tons of extra credit so it'll be easy to get at least a B unless you don't do anything. Just suck up to him and get on his good side.
If you enjoy writing or are a good writer, TAKE HIM! He is a good guy and is willing to help you with an essay. Be prepared to set aside at least an hours worth of homework for every class. This class will make you a better writer and person.
He is over-structured to the point that it is painful. If you cannot follow his essay guidelines word for word, you will fail his class. He taught some good lessons but is overall a stifling professor. Did not grade according to his syllabus. He is NOT flexible in any manner. Do NOT take any of his classes.
This was an okay class. The workload was a lot but it wasn't difficult. There were only 3 major writing assignments along with a daily journal done in class. He is a VERY structured person in the way he wants his papers done and was sometimes hard to follow but he was lenient in his grading. Somehow I managed to pull off a 100 in the class.
The Drevlow is kind of a peculiar person. You pretty much have to understand his personality to do well in this class. Get on his good side. Even though the homework takes a while, do it. It will hurt you if you don't. This class will make you a better writer for sure. If you are looking for an easy A, this is not the class to take.
The Drevlow is the quirkiest character ever. He's a great teacher, and you will do well if you work hard. This class isn't an easy A but you will learn more than you ever thought possible. He's hilarious and entertaining but can be a little scary if you're not on his good side, but I overall recommend this class, especially if you like writing!
Drevlow's work load is high, but as long as you do everything he asks of you, he grades you more on your effort instead of accuracy. Gave me lots of extra credit at the end of the semester to move me up to an A because I showed "respect and interest". I would highly recommend Drevlow!
He give A TON of busy work. Instead of really helping you get better at writing, he just loads you up on work and say "It will help you" - According to him "There is no such thing as getting an A"
Drevlow requires a good amount of effort into his class, but your glade will reflect that. If you're looking to get by doing minimal work I wouldn't recommend taking his course.
I wouldn't recommend anyone to take the Drevlow. He is an awesome guy who is very understanding but the workload is CRAZY. I got an A at the end of the day by much prayer and hard work but I would NOT advice anyone to take him unless it's the last option and their other courses are not serious because this class requires every minute of your time.
The Drevlow's class requires a lot of time and work, but I feel like my writing has definitely improved. There is a reading assignment due at the beginning of every class meeting and daily in class journals. If you make an effort in this class, your grade will show it.
Do not take Professor Drevlow's class. He is set on making sure that you never want to write another essay again. Everything you write is wrong. I came into his class aware that I was a strong writer, and now I feel pathetic. He gives an extreme work load and actually once said, "Its pretty much impossible to get an A in my class."
The Drevlow's class is something I would recommend to those who want to become better writers. If you want to breeze by and get an easy A, than this isn't the class for you. The workload is crazy but if you follow instructions and are persistent and hardworking a "A" is possible, which is the grade I received. Be prepared to work!!!
The Drevlow is a very good professor, he is more than willing to help his students in order to succeed in his class. The essay's can be taxing at time, however, they have improved my writing tremendously. I would highly recommend taking The Drevlow!
he is a decent teacher and is willing to help if you got to him, but if you aren't into writing GET OUT!!!! And the work load? Be prepared to have homework every night!
The Drevlow is a great teacher! He's always willing to make things clear and explain things again if you're confused. The essays are tough but if you take the time and actually talk to him he'll give you everything necessary to get a good grade. Would definitely take him again!
1-2 hours worth of hw every single day. Yes, he checks homework every single day. If you do not do your homework he takes 7 points off. If you are tardy, he takes 5 points off. For example, if there are 100 points in total and you are late ONCE & miss homework ONCE, the highest you can get is an 88100, making your highest possible grade an 88.
Drevlow's class was a busy class... We also had homework EVERY night! His class is long and boring. He is a tough grader but you do get extra credit on all assignments... the extra credit is time consuming and drawn out. I worked my butt off to get and A.....
To be honest Drevlow is a great guy, and when it comes to the papers he is clear in what he wants and very helpful. I feel like a better writer after having him. Unfortunately the huge work load is a deal breaker. There is so much homework and extra work to do with the papers that it is extremely stressful and ruins an otherwise great professor.
Don't take him if you aren't ready to work! There is homework every night, I mean EVERY night. Lots of assignments, they can be confusing and are always time consuming. I regretted taking him once I realized that a simple English 1101 class was taking up most of my time.
I came into the class dreading it. As the semester went on i was really becoming a better writer. He will not grade entirely on how good your paper is. If there is a significant improvement from paper to paper you will get credit. Tough but definitively worth becoming a better writer.
The class was definitely hard work, but it is doable. I suggest asking for help and going to his office hours when he is available. As long as you show effort, ask for help and do the work you will do fine in the class.
If you are signed up for Drevlow, get the hell out as soon as possible. Worst class ever taken in my life, and hardest thing I've ever done.
If your looking for an easy A, congratulations you can cross this off your list. The Drevlow will provide you with maximum work in his papers and also have you working on homework everyday. He does provide valuable tools to become a better writer, but if you just want a high Gpa then look for another professor NOW.
Not a bad teacher, just gives you a ton of work. It was definitely a hard class. Not impossible to get an A you just have to work extremely hard and either be decent at writing or improve greatly over the semester.
Great teacher. he's a hard grader and is not clear what he wants. He is willing to meet with you to help you on your papers. so if you do take him, go visit him during his office hours.
Get out while you can. Hardest class I have ever taken.
There's a lot of homework every night, and it is usually checked every single day. He is a very tough grader, but go during office hours and he's there to help you. You have to put in a lot of work to get an A. He gives lots of extra credit, if you don't do good on the papers, do all of the EC. There's 3 major papers. LOTS OF WORK!
He is a super sweet guy, and grades fairly! But if you do not want to spend 10+ hours a week on homework, do not take his class. Tons and tons of work,
Expect a homework assignment due every class, heavy work load. However, he is very helpful but the work is very intensive for a three credit hour class.
Drevlow was awesome for me. I had to work my ass off to earn the A that I got, though. I went to office hours, did everything he asked me to do. I put over 75 hours in to writing the 3 papers for his class. Honestly, only take him if you REALLY need the writing skills. Being a writing major, I'm glad I was challenged. Others may not appreciate it.
He Is a very tough grader. You will have to work your butt off to see good grades.
I took The Drevlow for 1101 and 1102. He requires you to put effort into his class. If you do all the assignments, and just generally act like you care, he will reward it. He has very specific rules, but gives you room to slack a little. I think he generally cares about his students . I made A's both semesters.
The Drevlow was definitely one of the best professors I had. He really pushes you and it's a lot of work but definitely worth it at the end . He does his best to help you and leaves a lasting impression.
Drevlow is a nice guy but he talks a lot without really saying much. I don't find his teaching style to suit me at all! When he "explains" things he never really gets to the point. I think he just likes the sound of his own voice. He has a sense of humor but I would never take him again. He also gives a lot of homework.
Gives homework every night. You will be writing 500 words every two days.
Be prepared to read and answer questions on everything. Three major papers, kind of confusing and just when you think you're done with that paper and gonna move on to the next one he gives it back with a thousand notes on it that half the time make no sense. Main things :Go to office hours/writing center and do all the writing & homework journals
Really a great teacher. He does give a lot of homework and the Essays were very extensive compared to my next literature teacher but if you apply yourself you will get the A. He definitley cares about his students and lectures are interesting because he gets so heated and it makes you pay attention.
Do not take this class unless you want to do hw every single night. The Drevlow isn't a bad guy or professor, but the amount of work he assigns is so annoying. You have to write 4 really long boring essays in the class. And you have to read several articles for them. I walked away with an A but i worked really hard for it. Proceed with caution.
He is always there to help if you need it. He is a quick responder to emails. But you must be willing to put in the effort for a good grade in his class because he is a tough grader. The textbooks are stories that you need to print out and annotate.
He is a great teacher. I had to work really hard in this class. It was a ton of work for a required class. He helps a ton though and he will help you.
I've taken him twice now & i don't regret any of it. he is great when teaching students to write. Now yes he does require you to write a lot of papers but he is willing to help you every step of the way. just be open with him and actually go to his conference hours before papers are due. he is awesome
Drevlow is an ok guy overall and as a professor but he can get tough he's confusing at times also he can get smart with you if you are trying so hard but still kind of don't get the concept he will get smart with you and tell you well someone should have been paying attention this semester even though you was but those type of comments is not call4
Drevlow is a great guy, he is an inspired professor who cares about what he teaches and knows how to make you a better writer. Excellent teacher. However, this class is a huge pain in the ass with daily homework taking anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours to complete, very detail-intensive assignments and essays, and tough grading. Be warned.
He gives a lot of homework and the papers are really long. He is a great teacher who enjoys his job. It is not hard to pass Drevlow's class as long as you come to class and do what he asks.
As a person, I really like Drevlow. As a professor though, I wouldn't take him again. He give so much homework that it's hard to keep up and you have a lot of papers. He is a tough grader who rarely gives A's (he told us that himself). He is also very vague with instructions amd some of his assignments are very irrelevant for an English class.
I took Professor Drevlow for ENG 1102 and it was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. Expect homework every night that you have to show in class that you completed. There are two major essays that will end up to be about 14 pages long each. Most of the homework assignments are revising and you are pretty much wrong no matter what you do
Was one of the hardest classes I took, yet the most rewarding. Would recommend him because he genuinely cares about his students doing well in his class. You do a lot of work, but he is always available to meet with and help you. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! The more he gets to know you, the more he will curve your grade, and you'll find that he's great
This mans course is hard, but if you go to class every day, and do the homework (which is spelled out for you, you just got to write it) you will pass. Just make sure to keep everything. My suggestion is to have 2 spiral notebooks. One for homework and one for classwork. He is a great teacher, and gives you plenty of chances to get xtra credit.
This class feels a lot like a high school class. He assigns lots of homework and busy work. He's very detail oriented and gives specific instructions. He's a good teacher and he knows what he's talking about, but the work he gives seems to be very extra and not necessary.
Drevlow was overall awesome. He graded fairly although it was difficult to make an A. If you needed more time to finish work or if you had something come up, he was very understanding. This course was very heavy with work. Homework was due everyday.
I worked extremely hard in this class, passing all of the major projects (even though I should've aced them) and I still received an F in this class. Literally nothing you do in this class is going to be good enough for this teacher. There's so much busy work, you're going to feel like you are in a high school course.
This class is challenging. It's just like high school all over again, homework every night and in class the work that is assigned is pointless and boring. The instructions for assignments are always confusing. He grades hard and not worth all the time and effort I put into each assignment.
The teacher is brilliant and clearly cares. On that note, don't expect fair grading or getting homework done in a timely manner. You may fail even if you do all the work if you don't meet the teacher's personal standards. Don't take if you don't like critical writing and/or don't have time for mountains of homework.
"The Drevlow" (as he calls himself) is a tough professor and makes you work for your grade but you can do well in his class if you're willing to commit. He has you read a lot of examples of good author's writing and then write an essay in the same style. We wrote 2 major essays that were very prescribed. You will have homework every night.
This is the type of class where if you don't work hard and actually put in the effort, you won't get a good grade. He does give 20 points extra credit added to your full grade and he is willing to help you as much as he possibly can so that you get the grade you want. He will make you a better writer without a doubt. The Drevlow is AMAZING!!!!
Every assignment is pointless, its busy work taken to another level. There isn't a incentive to go to class because you don't learn anything , the only reason you have to go is to prevent loss of points. I only cut him slack because a lot of writing teachers are very passionate about writing and let their personal feelings affect their grading.
He is very passionate in his work but he takes that a little too far and fails to realize that we are college students trying to get a degree. To say the least, after failing all of his papers, i had to retake 1101 with another professor and ACED all three papers. "The Drevlow" is way too critical.
The Drevlow is the toughest grader I have ever had. However, he offers a chance to recover lost points from your assignments at the very end. He makes the point clear that hes here to help, and he truly is. Very real with you and straightforward however hes not rude about it. If you put in the effort, he will put effort into you.
Where to begin with "The Drevlow" Lol. I have yet to meet another professor who is amusing, respectful, and enjoys what he does. He relates to his students and will help you if you have concerns with your work. There is work to be done, but he is lenient depending on the situation. He gives second chances but don't take them for granite.
SO SO MUCH HOMEWORK. If you miss one homework assignment if feels like you fail the class. he is a very sweet man but very hard grader and he is not a good teacher and he does not make sense when he teaches and near the final no one knows what to do because he is very unclear.
What can I say, this class was diffrent from any other english classes I have taken. The Drevlow will genuilly try and often secceeds on putting a smile on your face everytime he gives a lecture.. You will have to put in effort in order to pass. Expect to write everytime you enter his calssroom and what ever you do, try not miss a single class.
He almost expects too much of his students when it comes to writing essays. He grades it like we are writing a novel that is going to be published. If you skip one day of class, you might as well miss a whole week because youre already extremely behind. He does not make his expectations very clear when assigning an essay, he makes it confusing.
While Drevlow is a nice person and passionate about writing, he is an extremely difficult professor. He grades extremely harshly/critically and expects way too much out of our writing. DO NOT SKIP THIS CLASS or you will fail. We had to write every single day in the class and also had homework every day. You have to put a lot of effort in.
Drevlow is an awesome professor. He cares so much about each student and if you put in the work he will help you every step of the way. Can be intimidating at times and you do have to write everyday in class and home work every-night but it is all so worth it because by the time you have to write a paper you have been doing it all along.
Hardest class on my Schedule! Mechanical engineering major. This class comprised of 90% of my homework and and free time and managed to be my lowest grade with a class average of a 71. I Consistantly ace essays in english1102 despite receiving mediocre grades in "The Drevlow's" class. Grades papers with no mercy and no one made an A on an essay.
The Drevlow is very compassionate about his students and really cares about their wellbeing inside and outside the classroom. The way he presents material can require a lot of digestion, although it allows for a lot of growth not only as a writer but overall as a student. A lot of homework, although defiantly would recommend him as a professor.
This proffesor calls himself The Drevlow which is questionable... I wouldn't recommend this class unless you want to fail or have non stop homework and be stressful 24/7. If you do take this class you will end up dropping it halfway threw after you do all that hard work for nothing! I don't know how his rating is a 3.5 overall but he is a nice guy
The assignments are rough at times, but they blend together. I had so many issues with my group. It was a really bad group, I didn't get to pick my partner, but I worked with Drevlow and he helped me manage it. He was very caring when I explained my situation.
Drevlow is an exceptional professor. Lectures are very interesting, always tie together, comical, and inspirational. Put in the effort and talk with Drevlow, he will work with you. Yes, critical grader, but it 100% made me a better writer and student. Emailing is not the best, but you can talk after class to set up office visits. DREV IS AWESOME.
Literally the worst class I have ever taken
It sucks. I would not recommend whatsoever.
I love Drevlow! This was the second class I took with him, and Im really glad I got the chance to take him again. Participation and attendance matter, but hes super caring about whats going on with you outside of class and will work with you to make sure you do well in his class. He truly cares and wants his students to succeed.
It's my first time taking an online writing class, and the Drevlow made it a great experience. He gave us homework twice a week, which I suspect is just a participation grade. The homework led up to the papers so drafting was a piece of cake. I only had two papers due and the end of course assessment was to further improve upon my previous papers.
Drevlow is an interesting character. He makes you work for your grade. You will always, always, always have an assignment to do for his class. If dont to spend hours on hw for every class meeting, steer clear. Overall assignments seem very outdated. Still a funny, compassionate and understanding guy tho! If you need help reach out!
He gives way too much homework, there's an assignment due every class and it is tough to keep up especially with other classes giving homework too. Homework is due before class not at 11:59. Definitely would not take again, I wish I could drop his class.
Taking a class with Drevlow is incredibly easy to pass as long as you do. the. work. We had a lot of in class work, and there is a homework assignment due before each class. But as long as you do your work, you can easily pass this class with an A. I neglected to do some of my work which is why I finished with a B. Very easy grader! Very nice!
Lord this class was boring. Expect to do homework before each class and then have an in class writing assignment everyday in class. He helps if you really talk to him but most people don't. Show up to class or the attendance policy will absolutely wreck you. Be ready to stress out come the last month of the semester
He give writing assignment every class, it is a lot but also helped me becoming a better writer. He also grade pretty hard, but he is a nice guy and if you ask for help he will give really insightful suggestions. Take him if you want to learn.
Drevlow does not consider how much workload he gives to his students while they are also trying to manage other classes. If you keep up with all the homework, you'll probably pass, but the papers are graded so strictly. As someone who loves writing, he makes me dread it. I would never take his class again.
This class will be hard for you if you can't keep up with homework. He's very caring considering this is an online class. Definitely would take him again. Everyone loves the drevlow!
The class wasn't hard, and Drevlow was a little helpful, but it's an unbelievable workload. Do not take this class unless you have to. I would rather wipe with sandpaper than take his class again.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Benjamin Drevlow grades very strictly, has a ton of work and teaches his class in a very weird format. Attendance is basically mandatory considering you have to do an in-class assignment every day. Good luck if you are taking this class! not to mention he's a weido
Do not take this class. The work load is ridiculous and he grades papers extremely strictly. There is homework (usually lengthy)due before every single class and the essays are extremely broad and honestly confusing. It felt like more than half of my class did not even understand what we were supposed to write about for the second essay.
Don't let my course grade fool you, Drevlow's class was a nightmare. For starters, Drevlow is a good guy who genuinely cares about his students, but there's where the positives end. The amount of homework he assigns is absurd, and he knows this. The essays are extremely time consuming and tedious, and the grading is extremely harsh. Awful class.
Avoid taking this class if possible. For starters, he refers to himself in 3rd person. Secondly, his assignments are overly complicated for no reason and all of his "peer reviews" have the same questions. I learned nothing in this class. He constantly shot my writing down, but never gave reason as to why. He just has a large, difficult work load.
One of the worst professors I have taken in college. He makes you write a minimum count of words every class, the homework is due every day online at noon. He is a very weird person who doesn't translate well to students, DO NOT take this class if you want a good grade with a good teacher.
Drevlow's ENGL1101 is challenging, but he's a great professor. Lots of writing assignments, but he provides helpful feedback. Use unstuck ai and stay on top of the work - it'll pay off with a better grade.
Super easy class to get an A if you really put in work. A lot of busy work but its worth it if you keep up. Extra credit for meeting with him and for going to poetry readings outside of class.
A lot of busy work and homework. He is a good guy. A lot of essays. Extra credit for meeting with him and for going to poetry readings outside of class.
This professor gives so much homework and his classes are so pointless but still takes attendance and he also is so weird. He refers to himself in the 3rd person. I should've dropped but I didn't and ended up failing.
He cares about you as a student is willing to work with you. However, there is a lot of writing for homework and papers, but if you do the homework and in class writing most of the work for the papers is done. He is good at teaching, but if you want the good one on one feedback go to office hours.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! I am begging you for your own sanity, do NOT take his class. You will always have a lot of homework after every class due by noon before the next class. He gives weekend homework as well. If you plan on having any type of a social life, do not take Benjamin Drevlow as a professor. Only positive is he gives extra credit...
Very homework heavy and you have an in class writing (ICW) to do every day. He is a bit of a tough grader on the big assingmnets like essays, but he witll help if you go to office hours or schedule an appointment. Also offers a lot of extra credit (you can get points by meeting with him out of class or go to a poetry reading).
Super cool guy who wants you to succeed. He'll take time to speak with you one on one and yeah it's a lot to do sometimes, but it's college... Class is not at all hard to do if you're not being lazy. I did everything last minute and still passed with an A, honors class by the way. He's a fun professor to have.
