This guyis really nice and really easy. It's hard to get up for his 8:30 classes but he's passionate about his topics and makes them interesting. The work load seems heavy but you barely have to do anything to get an A. He's one of my favorite at Bingamton so far.
He's a really nice guy. The notes are online but you should still try to go to class for extra info. The topics are very interesting and he makes you think for yourself not just spit back what you read. He gets your papers/emails back very fast and always willing to meet with you.
Knowledgeable, fair and devoted.
Best Professor I have had at Bing! Very Willing to help at office hours. Knows everything about the course. Almost dropped the class because it was at 8:30 but it was worth it! Tests are very straightforward! Go to Class and you will get at least an A-!
DO NOT TAKE. The lectures are at 8:30 and it's really not worth going unless you show up b/c you can't do well otherwise. Read the Case Studies and Go to lecture. The rest of the readings are unnessecary. It has a bit of writing for the class, but not too bad. If you are a PLSC major take this and not PLSC 115
was super close to dropping this class because it was an 830- i'm glad i didn't. he's unbelievably knowledgable... like a walking talking encyclopedia. grab some coffee before class because some of the lectures run kind of dry, but if you can manage to stay awake, you'll learn a lot. highly recommended.
Fordham is great. It does suck having to wake up and stay up for an 8:30, but it's still worth it. He's a very good lecturor. He puts his notes online but you have to go to lecture for the rest of the info. Tests are pretty easy if you do go lecture, readings from the text book are uneccessary, writing assignments aren't too bad. Recomended
The only downside to this class is it being at 8:30. It's hard to stay awake for a 90 minute lecture. He's a very knowledgeable teacher, but I didn't find a lot of the stuff as interesting as I thought I would. I was thinking about majoring in Poli sci but opted not to...or at least not world politics. Definately take it if you like politics though
I felt like I was taking a high school course. The class is very easy and straightforward. It's a good intro class, but can be very boring.
he is g-d
Incredibly interesting classes. He is so smart and just passes his knowledge on. Tests are easy because he gives practice test. Wrote two papers that were graded relatively easily. Lots of reading on boring stuff but discussion is helpful in understanding. Definitely take a class with Fordham.
One of binghamtons best professors. he is a human pez dispenser an knowledge is his candy!
One of my favorite PLSC professors. He is very knowledgeable and dedicated to his students. The test are really straightforward and easy. An all around nice guy and amazing professor. Take a class with him if you can!
One of my most favorite professors. Kept lecture interesting at 8:30 in the morning..very helpful during office hours to make up for terrible TA..unfortunately the TA does all of the grading in this class and if you have one from hell, like me, then no matter how much you learned from and enjoyed lecture(I enjoyed waking up for this class)..your gr
I have to break with the unanimous consensus and give lower marks. He may be a respectable teacher but I have legitimate concerns about the degree of free thought that he permits in his classes. I am concerned nd insulted that he and some of his cohorts seem to have misidentified "disagreement" as being unintelligent. We're free to disagree right?
Professor Fordham is a good professor...but that is known already from his reviews. I'd like to point out that I've never had a professor who issued as much "busy work" as Professor Fordham does. You will be required to read multiple books, write multiple essays and keep up with readings that carry almost no weight, yet pile up if you miss a few.
He is not helpful especially to foreign people.
His powerpoints were amazing but he didn't include A LOT of information, you had to attend calss. He was really obnoxious in person, there were A LOT of readings that are never discussed meanwhile you spend so much time on them. Awful class, try not to take it!
AVOID TAKING THIS CLASS!! There are TONS of readings. If this is not required for your major, DONT TAKE IT! You will not have time to do all the assigned work.
Is one of the smartest people I have ever met. Interesting classes too.
Great Professor. You'll walk out learning so much about foreign policy. The only thing is he requires you to read a lot. If you're willing to put in the work, I strongly recommend him.
Great Prof. Clear and organized lectures. Available for any questions and levels with his students. Fair grader and great guy. Take his class if you can.
Amazing funny teacher never thought I'd like politics so much.
Unbelievably knowledgable guy. Incredibly prepared for class. Presents great slideshows with general information, and slowly and clearly speaks the additional information. Three three page papers throughout the semester. Plenty of time to do them. VERY EASY midterm and final. Great guy. Good sense of humor.
Ben Fordham is one of my favorite professors at Binghamton. He makes coming to class enjoyable and creates a comfortable environment where he encourages students to express their thoughts and ideas. He doesn't expect too much from his students and the workload is manageable. If you get the chance to take one of his classes don't pass it up.
He is one of the best political science professors in Binghamton University. If you can possibly take him do, but do not slack on the readings.
One of the best political science professors in Binghamton University. I would not graduate without taking at least one of his classes.
Please do not take this for a gen-ed requirement. I have always found classes like this easy but the readings for this class are just unreasonable. 2, 250 pg books, 1 ENTIRE textbook, 4 essays (Which are not that hard), and on top of all those assigned readings there are other assigned readings which in itself are really long. Avoid at all cost.
Professor Fordham is amazing. His lectures are interesting and easy to understand. Though the assignments can be tedious and a bit hard for an introductory course. He is, however, very precise as to what he wants in the assignments so as long as you don't procrastinate, you'll be fine! However, make sure to read everything because of the final.
Fordham is a level 99 warlock of political science, meaning he has transcended human needs like sleep and food and sustains himself on foreign policy graphs and analytical essays in Foreign Affairs magazine. Outside the classroom, he is known for stabilizing developing countries, writing legislation for 34 countries and the EU, and curing Ebola.
Fantastic professor. Very knowledgable. Makes lecture interesting by throwing in jokes here and there and generally giving off a dad vibe. A little more reading than I would have liked, but none of the material was hard. Don't procrastinate in the class, and guaranteed, you'll love him.
Fordham is a good professor, but make sure you like world politics to enjoy the class. a good TA is everything, some TAs were more helpful then others with advice on midterm, final, and grading. Letcures can get very boring if you have little interest, and he uses an insane amount of examples in his lectures. Tests not bad if you study.
Fordham is a funny guy and he himself is pretty interesting, but the class is horrible. Beyond boring and requires an in-depth knowledge of world politics prior to taking the class. The class required 4 papers, 3 of which you didn't get much help in writing. My TA really made the experience awful. Not recommended.
Lectures are brutal, and topics are not interesting. AVOID CLASS AT ALL COSTS.
horrible. do yourself a favor and don't take his class. His grading is very unfair. He gives pop quizzes all the time and his office hours are useless. not an approachable professor at all.
Very gentle and approachable as a professor and makes complex topics simple. Non-partisan and objective politically, to the point which may sounds bizarre granted the topic of his lectures on some days. The pop quizzes are simple as long as you do the reading, but there are a lot of them and they're worth a third of your grade.
Professor Fordham is a very sweet guy. Overall his class is bearable but he can get very caught up in his lectures and sometimes it gets dull. I'd say he is a fair grader. Only 2 essays in a poli sci seminar so that's not bad at all. Lots of readings but its doable.
Professor Fordham's class is truly amazing. He is well prepared for each lecture and gives insightful analysis on various issues. Grading is based on pop-up quizzes and three papers (4-8 pages each) so workload is pretty ok. Very helpful and approachable during office hour. Do take his class.
Overall great professor, incredibly knowledgeable and enjoyable to talk to about class material. Lot of work on a weekly basis but nothing unbearable. Would definitely recommend taking a class with him if you get the chance
Really nice guy and clearly very interested in the topic. Lectures are clear and straight-forward but can drag at times. No textbooks but constantly reading articles or books. Lots of pop quizzes, just expect to have a quiz when the readings are due but they are easy. Only graded by a couple of essays but a fair grader.
This is a class that will make you read a lot and if you don't do the reading you will do badly in the discussion sections and exams. His lectures are very heavy. He fills you with information from start to finish, however, the lecture side are online. He's a very nice guy a joyful, it's just the material that's heavy.
He's a nice professor who is passionate about his field. He heavily bases his exams on lectures though. His lectures are often tedious but are important to doing well on the exams!
This man really cares about his students. He throws out a question if the majority of students chose the wrong answer because it is a 'bad question.' His tests are heavily based on lectures, with a handful of questions on readings from throughout the semester. My only complaint is that you need a 94% to get an A, where the university makes it a 93%
This class is rather easy for the gen eds it offers. Make sure to study the lectures closely as the tests are specifically on them (do not worry about the textbook). The weekly discussions and articles are also on the test so make sure to go to the discussion classes. The first test is hard but after you get his feel for questions it is much easier
Took 2 classes with him a lecture and a seminar style. Lecture was easy, clear and informative with ppts, which helps with papers Seminar was DRY hes not that good at facilitating discussion his questions are difficult to answer without prior knowledge In both, there will be quizzes. in seminar its every class. Just dont take his seminars
Personally, I loved his class and personality. Fordham was really quirky and extremely well prepared and informed for each class. His lectures can sometimes be quite dry and boring but it is not unbearable. The four papers are graded fairly easily and the two tests weren't very difficult as long as you study the material in the lectures.
Fordham is a great professor. There was quite a lot of reading but nothing that was not manageable. Tests were based on his lectures so it is important to pay attention and show up. Good professor who made the subject enjoyable and clearly was interested in teaching it.
Dr. Fordham is an extremely intelligent man. His lectures are very organized and easy to follow, and he explains complicated concepts very clearly. It's probably best to go to lecture, but he keeps them interesting, so you won't regret it. The tests are fair and the workload is manageable. Overall, Fordham is a sweet guy who really knows his stuff.
Great guy. ALWAYS do the review sheets and look over old tests. 50% of the questions on the tests, you have seen before. If you want to do well in the rest of class, hopefully you get an english speaking TA.
Amazing lecturer with a great sense of humor. Class was always interesting and he really seemed to care about the material. Discussion section was somewhat useless but overall a great course.
Prof. Fordham is great - he obviously knows and cares about the subjects teaches about and does a good job communicating. I've taken two classes with him and he's been great and very adaptive even for this online semester.
Incredible professor and super cool guy. I love the way he converted the class to an online format. Very concise and great at communicating concepts. There was a good deal of reading and course work, but he was receptive to extensions and did not grade harshly. Best poli sci professor I've had so far.
Prof. Fordham was a light during a very dark semester. There was a lot of reading, but he was very lenient and understanding about student participation and didn't ask much in the way of work. He cared about what he could do to improve the experience for students and was overall a really swell guy. If you're interested in PoliSci, take his class!
Great dude and a great professor. Clearly very knowledgable on the subject and is very interesting to listen to. Relatively easy grader and does not grade attendance but I seriously wish I went to class more anyway. I would recommend Fordham to anyone.
Very kind professor. After midterm grades came out they were pretty low so him and the TAs looked back over the test and gave us more points and also said that if we do better on the final he will replace our midterm grades with that. Weekly discussions that require participation but not all that helpful.
The lectures for this class are pretty good and if you miss them you can still get the notes. I would recommend you go though due to the challenging material that is discussed. The only thing that really bothered me is that the TA's have full control over your grades so they arbitrate any extensions or changes. They also change due dates for things
Fordham is a great lecturer and really knows what he's talking about. His tests and paper are not hard and it's pretty easy to do well if you attend lectures. The only annoying thing was that the TA's were strict and basically controlled your grade. Sometimes this was a blessing and sometimes it was clear they had no idea what they were doing.
Amazing Professor! You have two tests a midterm and a final, one hypothesis testing paper, weekly discussion posts and 5 geography quizzes. The quizzes are random in discussion classes but are extremely easy (study ten states test on five). The paper is easy and you can ask your TA for feedback. Go to lecture its extremely important for the tests!
He is a great professor, but concepts can be difficult to understand. The lectures aren't mandatory, but definitely are recommended because test material comes directly from them. The paper is very easy. Grading wise, he is super lenient, and drops lower grades for quizzes and discussion posts, and will match grades for tests.
Super chill guy. You really don't have to show up for lectures (or read the textbook lol), but he's really knowledgeable about the subject.
He spends more time on examples of concepts than explaining the concepts themselves. He provides little to no review for tests and makes the lectures very hard to follow. I have my final on Monday and I genuinely don't think there's any way I'm getting above a C. I've heard he's much better for higher level courses.
He is the goat. One of the best teachers I've ever had. Truly one of the best classes at this institution.
Definitely not one of the most exciting classes I've ever taken, but Professor Fordham is a great professor and just a good dude in general. He cares about his students and will make time to meet with you if you need help.
He posts the lectures. 35% of the grade is an automatic 100 if you show up for discussion and do the posts (Easy). Sample midterm helps a lot to prep for midterm, no study help was given for final. There were questions on both midterm and final from textbook but you can get by without reading at all. One paper is easy. Midterm and final=your grade.
The lectures did not make much sense. One paper, midterm and final so not much room for grades. Discussion was great and had an amazing TA, which is why the class was okay but I did not understand the professor so much and the lecture material was not talked about in discussion
Fordham's lectures were too long and his tests are awful. The TA's are nice but you have to get a really good one to survive. Make sure you participate during discussions and make sure you study for the tests. The hypothesis paper is not bad at all as long as you put in the work. The lectures are useless pretty much. get the notes from a friend.
Amazing professor. Funny, genuinely cares, made a huge class feel personal. Pop geography quizzes in discussion, but you know the order. Only one final paper that was really interesting and easy, and a midterm and final that were fair and taken from both the lecture and textbook. Pay attention to specific examples used. Extra credit given on both.
Fordham was awesome. He is definitely for the students and will take away questions on the exams when they were unfair. His lectures were a little boring, but he tested on a lot of the stuff he said. The textbook wasn't required but he did test on some of the material, and it was talked about in discussions. Discussion participation mattered.
Lectures felt so long, and it was hard to pay attention. I had no idea whether to study notes from the lectures or the textbook, as the exams seemed to be on materials that weren't covered. It was addressed later on to study both, because everyone was struggling with these exams. It didn't help much. Fordham is a cool dude, but that class was rough
you are graded pretty much by states quizzes, midterm, final, and paper. he's an interesting lecturer but the tests are based on the textbook. if the question seems unfair, he will take it out. the curve is crazy for the exam. pay attention in discussion because a lot of the written response questions come from discussion.
Professor Fordham is one of the nicest and most passionate professors I have had at Binghamton. The class was a seminar so attendance and participation are important. He's great at guiding discussions and they were always fun. He has given the most detailed feedback on papers of any professor I've ever had.
Ben Fordham has consistently been a great professor, this is my second class with him. his lectures are amazing, always using real world examples to help facilitate understanding. he's passionate about his work, and its reflected in class. its never a mistake to take Benny Fordham.
I has and will always be a pleasure to take a class with Professor Fordham. As a political scientist and an educator, his passion for the courses he teaches are admirable. I would recommend Fordham to any political science major looking for a knowledgeable teacher, that will teach you the most valuable skill the major has to offer: application.
A combination of history, economics, and politics. Very practical information and taught in a comprehensive way. Great professor and great class, take him whenever you can.
I took War and Society with Dr. Fordham and absolutely loved it. He is extremely intelligent and passionate about the subject matter, and his lectures were very engaging, comprehensive, and interesting. I honestly wish I had taken more of his classes before graduating because he is a wonderful professor. I would 100% recommend taking him!
Really clear when he teaches, attendance not mandatory since it's a huge lecture, made hard concepts easy to understand. He posts the lecture slides online, but going to class helps make it easier to understand as he uses examples. Tests are basically the study guide
the tests were definitely difficult and discussion grade depends on TA. also readings are pretty long and are on tests. but i love fordham and he is so knowledgeable in his lectures. such a gem but get ready to actually lock in!
Fordham was an amazing professor, he is so kind and makes the class very manageable. I did not find this class challenging at all, and we had very few assignments throughout the semester. However, for the midterm and final make sure you actually read the textbook and study because it helps. He is the best and I want to take his class again.
Professor Fordham is very knowledgeable and it shows clearly in his lectures. There are not much assignments, which means that your exam grades (both final and midterm) will be 55% of your final grade combined and 45% will be your discussion grade if you get an easy-going TA.
An actual walk in the park. I loved this professor, he's funny and full of energy at 9am. I never picked up the textbook once, nor did I do the readings, all you really need to do well in the class is take notes (barely) and STUDY HIS PRACTICE EXAMS. He uses questions on the midterm and final from these practice exams, worth the time to memorize.
Great lectures, prof Fordham is very passionate and engaging. Your grade will come down to your TA and studying. Exams are very similar to study guides so STUDY EVERYTHING in them. Pay attention to examples in class, and focus on how everything fits together!
Professor Fordham is a wonderful individual and definitely knows what he's talking about, but his lectures can come across as a bit dry and uninteresting if you're not fully engaged in the content. Too much of the grade is based on the tests, which have some odd point system problems. Mostly an easy class, just really odd tests.
Fordham is passionate, genuine, and knowledgeable. Lectures may get boring, though. He makes himself extremely available for office hours, and he's a lovely guy to talk to. The exams were very reasonable. Do the study guides, understand them, and you'll do just fine.
