I absolutely loved this Professor ! He is super nice, knows exactly what he's talking about , and made the class very stress-free . He was very helpful with any questions or concerns that I had . Taking his class is what inspired me to FINALLY decide on a major ! I would definitely recommend him and would gladly take his class again c:
To describe this professor in one word: disorganized. I recommend that you bring in your textbook during lecture so you can read while he often spiels about random things. His tests are rather challenging--some questions are from the hw while some consist of a random application that he briefly covers during lecture. However, he does curve.
Lectures are boring most of the time, but they are about the test so pay attention. Anyone can pass any class as long as they prepare.
Seriously boring!!!!! Idk what everyone is talking about!! I wouldn't reccomend this class. It's so hard to pay attention since it's boring. He's very disorganized . He doesn't even say what we're learning he just starts writing from the board and go on from there
He's an awesome professor! His lectures are not boring because he is Always telling jokes. Physics in general is hard, so it is important to pay attention. He is a bit disorganized, so I would recommend reading the book. Any physics class you take, you MUST read the book. There's so much information in physics that professors can't teach it all.
Took him for Astronomy 1. He made astronomy interesting to learn because he is passionate about the subject. But pay attention to the due dates of the homework since it is due online.
This guy tends to talk about things that have nothing to do with the lecture; because of this, it is often difficult to understand what he's talking about, in terms of actual physics. I wouldn't recommend taking him. He's nice though, so if he fits into your schedule, by all means.
He is misleading when it comes to partial credits. He gives very little or no partial credit for each problem attempted unlike what he says that you will receive points for attempting a problem. Unless you are really close to the correct answer. Exams are more difficult than the challenge problems in the books. No review before exams.
Tests are very difficult and unpredictable. If physics is not your strong point don't take home. Very harsh grader.
He's real nice, big dark classroom though so you may be tempted to fall asleep. If you're not actually interested in astronomy you shouldn't take this class, but if you are then speak up and he'll notice.
Taking this class is not easy you have to put in a lot of studying to see results. Pay attention during lecture, and be sure to read the material before hand. There is no study guide, however taking this class I noticed that the problems he solves before the day of an exam, are used (sometimes concepts) in the test. Good luck!
Overall, I struggled a bit in the beginning trying to understand his teaching methods. He's a bit disorganized with many of his lectures and labs. Reading is very important along with doing the homework, you have to make sure to study lots.
He's a smart guy, just doesn't know how to teach, the average on the first was a around 35%. Physics is hard, but is it that hard? No quizzes, only HW, Labs, and tests.
If you're expecting him to babysit you, to tell you to do hw and give you easy tests, well take another class. He's the university teacher that makes you work hard for the grade. Do you want to pass? Read the book,do the hw and study because the exams are hard. Just be responsible and study. Pros Funny, enjoys the material, smart. Cons Disorganized
Jose is the best professor Ive had at Long Beach city college. Not only does he know the material but you can tell he loves to teach it. Everyday in class I wasnt scared of physics, I was excited to be there. If you do the homework and really want to learn physics and care about your education this is the professor for you.
His lectures are very interesting and he's great at explaining the material. May seem disorganized bc of info dumps (he knows A LOT) but listen closely for clues about exams. If you want to pass, you need to put work in.. read, do hw, ask q's, and participate. He's easy to talk to and has a sense of humor. Be responsible and you'll be fine.
The guy is great. Super chill, but if you don't ask questions he can't help. So, ask lots of questions and participate.
He put a problem on an exam that he got wrong in class worth the most amount of points. People who love him (who I have talked to) are naturally good at Physics. Kept locking this one student out of class. Yes, they were late but I don't think you are allowed to do that. Teaching aspect was ok, classroom management was terrible.
Jose is the most down to earth physics professor. He really loves the subject and is always willing to help you iron out the kinks in your understanding of the material (as long as you ASK!). I can honestly say that Jose teaching style has prepared me for success upon the transfer. His class is not easy but, if you work hard, it is rewarding.
He's a funny guy. Sometimes sarcastic, sometimes irrational. I took him for the lab class to Astronomy. Some assignments were so easy and we left after 90mins. Some were intense and i left after 3 hours. I didn't speak up much until the last 6 classes and we got on well. He loves science, so engage him and you have your A.
He's really sarcastic & he will point out anybody that's talking or using their phones while he's lecturing. He also hates when people come in late. The lab includes a total of 9 or 10 labs, with the lowest grade dropped. Some labs were really easy while others were difficult. But he's willing to answer any questions if you're having a hard time.
Ben, ben, ben... Took him for Lab. Dude is very anal about attendance and tardiness. He legit locks the doors or tells you to leave if you're 10 mins late. Hard subject, but he is there to help you. I asked many Qs got a lot of feedback and solid grades on my labs. Show up! Will make you work for an A. I joked around with him so he lightened up!
Prof Jose did a pretty good job of teaching physics 3A. His grading scale is forgiving and he has a good sense of humor regarding his example problems and exam problems. I do have some minor complaints but as far as LBCC is concerned you're way better off taking a physics course from Jose than some of the other professors there.
Jose is honestly a really cool and down to earth guy. Exams are VERY difficult so you have to really study for them and make sure you fully understand all the homework problems and the ones he goes over in class. Luckily, he is very lenient with the grading system. You really only need like a 60% to pass the class. Would take again.
Awesome guy!! Class is difficult so you gotta put in the work. Go to his office hours and build a connection with. It will really go a long way. Loves to talk to his students and help them out as much as he can.
Makes physics more difficult than it is; as if we're not taking other class. I noticed 3/5 of test questions are meant to confuse you, like dude not everybody is a damn physics major.
Its physics and its really hard no matter who you take. Jose's class was informative and enjoyable. Labs are super simple, not formal reports. You definitely need to read the book. He doesn't post any grades until the final transcript, & he curves the class but won't say how. I finished with about an 85 and got an A. Class test average around 50%.
Just take physics somewhere else. Honestly, LBCC doesn't have a strong enough STEM faculty. Google and YouTube shouldn't be what you're paying for. Smh, just take it somewhere else.
He knows physics but doesn't teach it well. Lectures are not structured well and lab report expectations are vague. Suggest taking Physics elsewhere (Check out Cerritos).
He spends most lecture time going over hw problems that never resemble the test. There is no study guide for the tests, so all you really have to study is the book and hw. The tests are EXTREMELY difficult, the class average is around 45%. All of the questions seem to be made to confuse you and are way harder than anything he goes over in lecture.
Very easy class for lab astronomy. You can't fail unless you stop going or just don't care about the assignments. I will warn you he gets extremely eerie when you show up late. Never in my life have met a teacher who just goes absolute cuckoo because you walked in a couple minutes late. But make sure you ask questions and help classmates.
He knows physics well, just really really weak at explaining the material . Most of his class fails and. It because the class is hard , its because his class structure is very disorganized . Tricky test problems. Homework is nothing like the test . And I would almost always fall asleep in his lectures . Please just consider Cerritos college.
Read the textbook & don't fall behind. The material will make more sense. Also, sit closer to the front. There are fewer distractions. His lectures could be a bit more organized, but it gets the job done. As for the test, read the questions carefully & no assumptions. The test isn't HW, so understand the material. If offered, attend S.I. sessions.
Awful. Doesn't care if he fails half the class. Doesn't make any attempts to modify his lectures to improve class grades. He's probably proud of himself that he makes his class difficult. To top it off, he uses Mastering Physics. Don't take him.
Easily the worst professor I've ever had. He kicked students out for having their phone or even laptop out regardless if you were using it for the material. Average test score was in the mid 40s, and the test does not resemble the material he assigns. He also uses Mastering Physics for homework. I would not recommend him at all.
My advice: 1. read the book before lecture 2. attend lecture and take really good notes (if u can, write what he says not only what he writes on the board if it sounds important) 3. practice problems immediately and daily *Most importantly, just take is slowly. legit if you do 5 problems a day instead of 20/day, the material will stick.*
Prof Jose is one of the best teachers Ive had. First off, this is a hard class. If you just need the Physics credit, dont take this course. If you love science (spend nights watching science and math YouTube videos) and also want to be in STEM, this class is awesome. Work hard, dont be late, sit in the front, ask questions, and youll do great.
Do not take any class with this professor. He is all over the place and not organized at all. He basically does not do any lectures at all. you have to read the book and study by yourself. he would just go over some exercises that literally has nothing to do with the exam. He is extremely rude and can kick people out of the class room for no reason
He's hand down the best physic professor at LBCC. I had him for my Physic 3A class and he explained everything thoroughly although most of the materials in his test do not match with those in homework, but it is a resemblance to those problems in homework. He motivated you but just don't be late for his class.
Pay attention and respect him and the class, and he'll respect you right back. He'll go the extra 10^3 meters to help you understand material if you seriously try and ask for help. Exams are around five questions, and are a fair extension of problems from HW. Practice those, know the concepts, and you'll be fine. And don't be a numbskull. Seriously
I really can't believe that this professor have positive feedback. This cannot be true. I think that he is the one writing the positive comments for himself.
Professor Jose doesn't allow phones or laptops, but you can use a tablet for notetaking. Attend class, read the textbook, and complete the assigned HW to understand the material. Whenever you have free time, solve unassigned problems to better understand the material. Exams will be much harder than HW. Lazy students won't like his class.
Jose is strict but you can tell that he wants his students to succeed. He is very accommodating and easy to talk to. He gave me extensions on hw and even met with me via zoom when I needed help late at night to accommodate my schedule. But you have to be really committed to doing all the reading and hw if you want to get a good grade.
Worst teacher I've ever had.
It's a physics class so it won't be easy the professor, however, is rude and treats you like a child. Lectures are fine but he lacks respect for his students. He once kicked out a student for having a backpack on his desk before class even began. No phones/laptops allowed in class. Locks the door when class begins so don't bother showing up late.
Okay, I agree with all of the other bad reviews with disorganization being an issue with this professor. Now with everything being online, that problem is tenfold. Also, to take exams you have to download spyware that monitors your screen which I do not like as I work remotely and propriety information could be recorded.
You can clearly tell that the majority of the good reviews are from the professor himself. Extremely petty. Do not take his class, he is essentially gatekeeping.
You need your textbook cause YOU'LL BE TEACHING YOURSELF. Don't take his classes, Don't waste your time
Can't teach. Very disorganized. He doesn't want to help a student to succeed at all. He will never compromise with the student and he is just very rude when you ask a question. Lazy and Not respectable professor.
Disorganized. You can tell that the positive reviews was made by himself. Those positive reviews was more of tips to students than a review of the professor. So petty .
I should have checked here before registering myself for his class. Instructor is NOT willing to help students succeed. I was having trouble turning in an assignment and was late by two minutes and he still did not accept it. He also dropped me from the class without any warning or reason. Horrible professor and person.
Well, 40 out of 70 students have already dropped from the course so far. He expected every students to understand from READING the textbook and be able to do the homework by themself. He had lecture, which are mostly hard to understand and all over the place, on youtube. He does not teach us enough to do well on exam, let's alone homework problem.
If he is the only option for you to take, then I think you have no choice but to take him. Be ready to read the textbooks and do more research. Personally,I use video lecture of Prof. " Michel van Biezen" on Youtube. If there is SI session offer, take advantage of that. Proctorio, a screen monitor which many students hate, will be use during exam.
Strict professor if you do something he doesn't like. However, I think he gives really clear and concise lectures. That doesn't mean it's an easy class, but you'll do well on the exams if you follow along with his teaching. I took this during Spring 2020 as we were transitioning to online and I think he did pretty well switching to the new format.
Very hard professor, but definitely would not take again due to the lab instructions being completely useless. He is difficult to work with but just work hard and you will be fine. Just be careful with each assignment.
This is the most unorganized class I've ever been. Professor would never help you so you're basically going to have to read and teach yourself. The quizzes are so different from the lectures and homework. unless this is the ONLY class you're taking in a semester, NEVER TAKE HIS CLASS. Save yourself some time and trouble by not taking this prof.
this was my first physics class which didnt help me at all. i fell behind at the very start of the class. hw is due at deadline w no credit for late assignments. hw for each chapter is estimated to take you around 2+ hours. v unorganized class structure. feels like he barely communicates with his students.
If he is your only choice for physics then goodluck because you are going to need it. The worse professor hands down and I am saying this as someone who usually does not hate on professors. For tests you will use procotorio which is already bad, but he also wants a 5 feet requirement and wants you to have your camera show your whole body and table.
This class by far is the hardest class I have ever taken, not only is there a ridiculously large amount of homework weekly but there are also large amounts of reading to be done. During tests and exams we are forced to use proctoring software and if you do not meet any of his requirements he will not hesitate to give you a zero.
The professor does not care about the students. He is very condescending and will give you a 0 if you dont follow instructions to a T. If he is your only choice, take the semester off. I have never had issues with any professor until I met this one. The experience was so poor Im making my first post. Its too bad you cant rate professors a 0.
Professor Jose, Ive taken this professor more than once, and Its the same thing every time Not only have I gotten the impression multiple times that he does not care about his students, its clear that he does not want you to succeed. I had to go to the head of department and dean to get the grade I deserved. DO NOT take his class.
Covid-19Online: All left to the student to learn the material. The videos made for this class aren't the best. Labs are doable solo but most group members didn't help at start. More than half dropped. Tests stressed everyone, online make sure you submit on time and follow directions because that's an automatic 0 in this class. Tests on saturdays.
Prepares you to handle awful professors, by being an awful professor. Eye-opening experience. Cons: - Saturday tests, mislisted as Friday test. - Proctorio user - Class requires a printer. - Seems like he hates his students. Pros - Hard test prepare you to be a better problem solver. - Not a good lecturer, so you get better at self-studying.
This class prepared me on what to expect in my future STEM classes, without a doubt an eye-opener. You will not get any help from the professor, All the material is there, it's up to you to self-study and understand it. He is not a good professor by any means, but thanks to him I have all the critical skills needed to succeed when I transfer out.
Professor Jose is condescending and adversarial to all students, at all times. Uses Proctorio and expects perfection from students, even though he does not seem capable of using it properly himself. Failed some students for personal reasons, apparently. Very unprofessional.
Provides mediocre lecture videos via Youtube, so be prepare to spend a lot of time learning on your own. Has very strict proctorio requirements, and will give you a zero on exam for not having the perfect set up. Lastly, he does not communicate rules very well so you may have to email a lot to clarify things.
The absolute worst professor I've ever taken. Will drop you if you score too low on an exam despite your lowest exam being dropped. Non-helpful lectures that are 1.5 years old at this point. 60% of your grade is in exams, built with the all of the material from the chapter, especially the obscure stuff. Average exam score was 45/100 DO NOT TAKE HIM
He is very strict... nothing wrong with that. However, I do have a problem with the way his lectures are. His videos are so long and not that helpful. In order to get a good score you have to read the book multiple times. I used practice problems to study along with the homework and they were not useful when taking the test. He is funny though.
PLEASE ! Avoid this professor at all cost. The most rudest, unprofessional, and worst professor ever. He locks students out who are late, gets so fired up at the sound of subtle noises, does not care about your success, immediate drops/fails without hesitation. Picks fights with students. Overall is careless and a bully. Just no ! Don't do it.
He's very rude when trying to communicate. Admitted to being lazy and not updating assignments that he knew were too difficult to read and understand. All around awful professor and even though I passed made my last semester miserable.
He's just there for a paycheck. You pay for a class for the credit, not the material. He emphasizes to read the book because he's vague in his own lecture. He does a vague "wikiHow" on labs as well. And also I think he gets off on humiliating students. Terrible person and professor.
Worst class youll take, class dwindles to
Worst class youll take.Class dwindles to 15% population, students drop like flies.Classroom turns vacant, almost single digits in weeks.NOT NORMAL!!His attitude is content to downright unpleasant. He becomes very confrontational. Surely bullied as a Youth! He will lock out late students or if he dislikes you.Late to an exam?Youll be sent home. Just NO
Don't ever take this professor for 3A at all costs if you want to end miserably! He locks out late students, becomes adversarial at all times, monitors your tardiness, etc. He also changed his last name to "Josi." Physics should be thrilling to learn but having him will hinder your confidence. It's a no-no. Avoid while you can!
No study guides, self-teaching, extremely abstract questions on exam, no clear explanation of application of principles you need to know on exams even though they are worth 60% of grade. If you are late to class 5 mins, you wait an hour outside learning nothing + he lowers your grade for being late. Waste of time to take this class.
Do not take him under any circumstances. On the first day 7 students were waiting outside of class for being 5 mins late. His lectures feel very unorganized and he never prepares you well for the exam. He only does hybrid classes, so you learn 80% of the material outside of class reading the text or watching one of his 100 hour long video lectures
not the evil prof that reviews make him out to be-- easy to talk to and wants to help. my complaint is use of time in class and in his videos, e.g. deriving formulas instead of solving problems or lecturing. tests are difficult but still within reason; ensure you understand each concept in depth while reading and don't just expect homework problems
He will literally give you test questions not covered in book or lectures not sure he wants anyone to pass.
This was one of the worst professors I've ever taken at LBCC. He was extremely rude to multiple students when they were showing up just a few seconds late to class and would try to humiliate them in front of everyone. His lectures are from old YouTube videos that aren't even his and you'll have to do hours of outside studying to try and pass.
This class is demanding and should not be taken alongside other intensive subjects. Homework is time-consuming, taking up to six hours unless you're particularly skilled in physics. The lectures: NO homework/lab/exam reviews. NO Study guides. Be prepared for the mental strain. You will learn through your textbook. required to watch 1-3 hr YT videos
Only take this course if you're confident in your ability to learn on your own. A majority of your grade will rely on exams and he will fill each exam with curveballs and things he's never gone over in class. Exams are worth a large portion of your grade, with labs and homework paling in comparison and barely helping your grade recover from an exam
Not very good at conveying the material. Most of your grade comes from tests so if you don't understand the material, it's going to be difficult to score good grades. No study guides, homework due every week and it is extensive, if you're late he gets very upset and often makes passive aggressive comments. Do not take unless you absolutely need to
