I just took this class in the pre-summer session. This was one of the best classes i have taken at MCC. But it is hard to get an A I thought i would get one since i got that in all my papers but i ended with a B+. So its true if you want an A dont take him but if you are satisfied with an B+ go ahead you will not regret it.

The best english teacher. We read essays I would never have read. African-American authors, gay authors, classics & not. Discussions were wonderful. He's a talented, published playwrite. he was a great professor. i had him my second time around. he knows what he's doing. just show up to class, participate and do the readings and write decent essay's and you'll be fine. he sounds tough in the beginning, i got scared, but he's a lot easier of a grader then he really says. don't get scared. he's there to help you 100%! def take him!!

Just do what he says and you will pass the class. The first day he scares you, but his class is not hard at all. The readings are always interesting. Great Professor, take him.

DON'T take him. I took him because everyone commented saying he was a great professor but i learned the hard way. He is not. He is extremely strict, attendance is mandatory and you can barely hear him in class. He thinks he is a big shot also.

It was a fun and easy class. I took it over the Summer. He gives people really good grades on the essays they do. The only thing hard about the class was the quizzes he gave out to the class. I recommend anybody to take one of his English 122 classes.

he is EXCELLENT, and he really knows his stuff about theatre. if you're interested in making musical theatre your profession, you have to take him. the first class may seem a little overwhelming, but as time goes on, he is SO easy. american musical theatre history rarely runs, but if its open and he's teaching, TAKE IT! :)

I'm not a film major, but his class is great. Don't expect an easy A because it's an intro to film class. There is a lot of work, but it is not difficult. Very laid back, fun class. Lots of fun offtopic discussion. I reccommend completely!

His class was very easy! Just do the papers and study for the quizzes. You don't have to be Albert Einstien to get a good grade. The only complaint I have about him is that you can barely hear him in class so sit in the front.

I loved this guy! He comes off as kind of pretentious at first, but he's really a cool guy. There are a few essays and a research paper, it's not too bad. He grades pretty easy. Definitely take him!

If you thimk this will be an easy elective take something else. You better love to write papers. Although the film topics are interesting...most of it I got from the book. You write a paper every week. Plus there is a term paper due at the end. Marshall is a fair grader if you attend and do the work. I did well in his class but had to work for it.

I'm terrible at writing and didn't look forward to taking this class at all, but he's such an easy grader for essays it's ridiculous. He also gives little quizzes which are pretty much just memorizing authors and titles which are pretty easy. You'll write 5-7 essays + a research paper. Stingy with giving out A's as a final grade though.

PLEASE TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! He is BY FAR my favorite! I was completly nervious when I first met him but OMG you learn so much. He doesnt give you a grade, you will earn what your get but he is so helpful, funy, witty and outgoing. He makes us laugh and strive for greatness. I wish they were all like Prf. Mardshall!!

He is a wonderful professor. You write about 5-6 papers (2-3 pages long) including in-class essays. The research paper was 5-8 pages, I think, and required 8 sources. It was a very fair syllabus. He made the class really interesting; I always looked forward to going. He's very, very helpful and approachable too.

Took him many years ago as a Freshman @ MCC after dropping a scary female who only gave out "a few A's". The best English professor I've had. The way he breaks down concepts and then build upon them, is phenomenal. I feel I need to go back and get a refresher of the basic from him! BTW Sit near the front because he speaks very softly.

He is very nice, cool and helpful professor. Great consecutive class discussions. Almost all the whole Grade is based on essays. About 2 of them are in class essays including final, rest are to be written at home. Reading is not that necessary but u will need to refer to the readings in your essays so at least skim through it. Must recommend.

I would absolutely recommend Prof. Marshall. He speaks very softly so i would suggest you sit closer to the front of the classroom. You must have your book on you during each session because he will go over all readings from syllabus in class. He's down to earth and he wants to involve everyone in class discussions however he won't force you.

Great professor. As long as you show up and do the work he will guide you. Very fair grader and tries to make class interesting. Sit up front so you can hear, he's soft spoken. About 5 at home papers 2-3 pages and about 2 in class papers 2-3 pgs. You will need to buy the book to survive.

If you enjoy english and a witty sense of humor definitely take this class. He is soft spoken so sit in front. He is a great teacher, he gives this look to the class after a reading he just wants to hear your thoughts so you should try and have some on the topic, same goes for homework assignments, if no one talks you just reread in class.

The best professor that I've ever had. Unbelievably nice and helpful. The class was very interesting and he taught it in a very interactive and fun way. I looked forward to it and was disappointed whenever it was cancelled. Definitely take Professor Marshall if you get the chance. If you love English, you'll love it even more after taking him.

What a marvelous professor, thoroughly enjoyed his class and teaching style. ENG-255 consists of a few take home exams based on the movies watched in class and in class exams based directly from the textbook. If you follow the directions for the assignments, show up to class to view the movies, and read the textbook you'll do fine. Highly reccomend

I loved the part that most papers were short and off the readings done in class. Only the Research Paper was 7 pages long (which is only one time). Attendance is required or he drops a letter grade. Grading is really easy and flexible. He's also available outside of class during office hours when needed. Participation is required for most part.

He is the most easiest and most awesome English 122 professor at MCC. Just follow his requirements for each paper and you will do great. I never missed a class last fall semester, because he made it worth every minute and I learned so much as well. I even got to do my research paper on a topic that I loved writing about, he will not disappoint. :)

Not bad but not good, just average personality. But theres something about him that is mysterious and inspirational. His teaching style is very unique, all types of 21 century problems like gay topics, racism, enviroment, etc. But i did not look foward to his class at times because all you do is read poems and discuss it.

Prof. Marshall is so easy-going and just a great professor overall. You read many poems and essays but they will help you for your in-class essays and final. There is one major research paper. Just follow the syllabus and you will be fine. Sit in the front because he speaks softly.

TAKE HIM! hes kinda a know it all, but its just one of his many quirks. if you dont like writing/reading, skip him. hes serious, but hes a good guy. sometimes he comes off demeaning and pretentious, but he challenges students by asking so many questions. hes quirky and liberal, but VERY knowledgeable. the hw is manageable

A solid professor to take Intro to film with. He knows his stuff and teaches you what you need to know on the subject matter. He may come off sarcastic at times and may have a bias towards the movies he likes to watch but he's overall a knowledgeable man and caring at heart if you put in the effort. Mainly reading homework and tests for grading.

Class act, all the way. I actually had him for Creative Writing and Script Writing, but those weren't options. Important thing about this man is that the feedback you'll get from him useful whether you're looking to write as a job or you just need to improve on it for tangential matters. His feedback is succinct, could use some vitriol though.

He is a nice person but he gives a lot of writing assignments but they're not hard and he is very quiet when he speaks. his lecture are mainly discussion and a little bit of writing. this class was really good and I do recommend him.

You will read short texts and write your own works of prose, poetry, and script. Be prepared to read your works in class and participate by making comments on other works of your peers. He helps edit works and you can reach out for more help through email or zoom meets. Very inspirational, good classes. May come off as rude: not, he is a writer!

Professor Marshall can be a tough cookie. He will make you work for that grade, there is a lot of reading, and writing. If you participate a lot, it will help your grade. He is very specific about what he wants in your essay. He hates people who arrive late to class, so if you are more than 2 minutes late, better not show.

One of my best professors at Middlesex! Always going to remember him, he gave great feedback on all of my poems and other writings. He is a part of the theatre crew and he used my class's writings for the kids to perform in a play. My classmates and I went to watch the play. He also respects the dance ensemble and showed support!
