Dr. Mis does an exceptional job at making a difficult topic interesting and relevant. There is no doubt that Biopsych is a difficult class but an A is very possible and you will actually learn something about the brain if you show up each week.
Dr. Mis is just an all around good guy, and you can tell when he teaches. He is MORE THAN willing to help you if you don't understand something (go to his office hours, trust me). Quiz's are easy if you read and have good notes. Essays are creative and fun. He gives extra credit, but you have to work for it (test answers, group presentations).1010
He's a reallllllly chill professor at IVC. Lectures are long but the way he explains his lectures is what makes the class fun. Hilarious guy and got a sense of humor. Quizzes are based off notes online. Answers to all your questions. He's a very easy going guy. Take his class you will NOT regret it :)
Lots of work, but worth it.
Awesome professor and very funny! Make sure that you attend all lectures, take notes, read the book, and study study study. You will pass if you work for it. Would definitely take one of his classes again!
Professor Mis is by far one of the best Psych professors at IVC. I was so fortunate to take a class with him. Hard class, the quizzes are long but believe me you learn a lot through them. He has an excellent strategy of asking questions throughout the lectures via colored index cards to ensure you're paying attention. He's a really great professor.
I loved his class. He's a passionate teacher and his way of teaching is definite proof that he knows what he's doing. Bio psych is not an easy subject however he explains things so clearly and in depth that the subject was no longer intimidating. With his amazing lectures, teaching style, and a good amount of studying, you'll excel in his class.
Go to class. Do the work. Easy A.
great professor highly recommended!
Very passionate about cognitive psych which makes him ideal for this class subject. he has his own teaching style which matches his interests in the subject, try to enjoy it. to help students understand & keep track of the heavy material, he encourages participation, uses quizz games & written brainstorm at the end of almost class. very helpful!
Extremely helpful teacher. Assignments are always clear and are super helpful for the tests. Really interactive teacher making it more enjoyable to be in class. Understanding when you have to miss a class.
Lectures were interesting and I felt like I learned a lot. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, I recommend showing up.
Highly Recommended! Ben is awesome - he puts tons of thought into what he is teaching and makes it interesting. He doesn't just stand there and lecture, but includes class discussion etc so you don't want to die of boredom. He has the semester all planned out so you know what's coming, and where you stand grade-wise the whole time.
Professor Mis is just perfect -- intelligent, engaging, and delightfully sardonic, he's both a gifted lecturer and an approachable professor outside of class. Visit office hours the minute you're confused about any of the material; the cumulative nature of this course requires a solid understanding of each chapter & he's more than willing to help.
Homework is oddly due on Friday at 9PM (I'm really used to doing it Sunday and turning it in before 11:59 PM). 2 midterms and 1 final, all are on campus, so you can't take any tests online. Very responsive to emails. I'd suggest taking his class in person unless you can really dedicate yourself to learning the stuff by yourself at home. Not easy!
Prof Mis is my favorite prof of this semester. You can tell he's really passionate about what he teaches, which will keep you interested as well. I wouldn't say his quizzes are the easiest things in the world since he doesn't give any study guides, so you'll need to really pay attention to the ppts (which he also posts on BB).
Absolutely amazing and understanding teacher. Doesn't make his lectures too long or boring and really engages with the class. His instructions are very clear and he is always there for his students. Always tried to get to know his students as well so he can relate and made everything as fun as it could be.
Bio Psych in general is a tough course BUT Ben makes it quite interesting. He is an amazing professor and one can tell that he's passionate about what he teaches. I recommend taking any Psych class with him!:)
Sassy. Cares about his students and his subject. Would take again. Hilarious and congenial, enjoys getting tangential.
Ben is such a great teacher for those who actually want to learn. Super knowledgable and knows what he's talking about. Definitely take him if you can
Amazing professor who genuinely cares about his students. Totally a nerd and will talk about anything with you, as long as it somehow relates.
Ben is funny and has lot of gambling jokes to offer. He says he breaks down material but the way he jumps in is like he expects you to know a lot of stuff. There is weekly online homework that you must do for your grade and a quiz for each chapter. No test besides a 2day 30pt final.
I was worried about this class, having dropped stats last semester. Easy to pass if you do the work. You have to show up because if you miss a lesson you will have trouble catching back up. Same with the homework. Weekly homework, 7 quizzes and a final, lots of in-class hands-on practice. 1010 would take Ben again.
Really good teacher. Knows his stuff. I would not say lectures are all that important, as he posts all the lectures online at the end of the week. Always attend class though as he gives surprise class assignments at the end. Tests are extremely tough, so beware as he is vague about what you should study. If you believe in yourself, you got this.
Make sure you read the powerpoints and the textbook. Study ahead of time for the exams and you'll get 100% (he offers a lot of extra credit). Ben appreciates effort and really enjoys his hard-working students. One of my favorite professors, take him!
Great professor!! Listen to lectures, make sure you're at class, and you'll pass the class with an easy A!!
Not gonna lie, the material is HARD. I had to take it because it's in my major. It's well organized with 5 quizzes he drops the lowest, two presentations and two papers and of course a final. There are also inclass assignments to don't skip. I think the professor works hard to make it interesting.
Here's the deal. 5 quizzes and a final, 4 papers, and a bunch of in class assignments but it didn't seem like that much work. Keep up and you'll be fine. I did okay on the quizzes but got an A because i got all the other points. The class was pretty quiet but the professor tried to get people involved. Lots of examples and interactive.
Excellent professor. Although the class is psych 1, which is generally easy, be careful on tests AND the FINAL because there will be questions that are in the textbook and not in lecture. If you want an A, read. If you want a B, review notes. He's very helpful and clear. Not allowed computers, & takes attendance but isn't mandatory. High quality.
I love Ben. He's awesome!
Ben is the best professor I'v ever had. I can not stress how much he cares about his students. Hes willing to go the extra mile and help until you fully understand the material. His tests are hard but like any class if you go and pay attention you'll be fine. He has made me a better student and person and I'm so grateful to have been taught by him.
Dr. Benjamin Mis is an amazing professor that has quite frankly reignited my passion for education. I am actually considering a chance in my major thanks to his insight.
One of my favorite professors! His lectures were so interesting . He understand , very helpful, and gives extra credit, has a sense of humor as well. . I would take his class all over again!
Don't take this professor he gives way to many quizzes and he doesn't even use the book that is assigned i was not happy with my grade i will be retaking this course with a different professor and probably online.
Lectures were so interesting! Your grade is composed of about six quizzes, six "write-ups", a few in-class responses, and a final. Really easy class, almost all the test questions were from lecture, with a few from the textbook. Attendance is not mandatory, but being present for lecture makes the quizzes much easier.
Best professor at IVC, hands down. Cares about his students and is so knowledgeable.
Ben is such an amazing professor! He's so passionate about his subject and makes his class as interesting as possible for a stats class. He also gives great advice about psychology in general and relates what we learn to the real world. DEFINITELY TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN! His class was one of my favorite ones. Go to class as much as possible.
Benjamin is a phenomenal teacher. He makes the difficult subject easier to grasp and explains the material in a fun and approachable way. It's obviously a huge priority of his to see his students succeed in his course. I was scared about stats but he helped ease the fear. Amazing prof, would definitely take again if given the chance.
Dr. Mis is the most inspiring and supportive professors I've ever come across. He goes well beyond just teaching a class by offering his students every opportunity to succeed. Psych3 can be a difficult class for most, but his lectures and teaching style made learning the material a breeze. I highly recommend taking his classes.
Class in general sucked but he made it better because he is such a great teacher. Inspires you to actually go to class
Such a good teacher! He's hilarious and you can tell he's genuinely keen about psychology because he gets so excited when he's explaining the concepts. Had him for psych1 and psych 3, definitely recommend!!!
If you are genuinely interested in the subject matter, Dr. B. Mis is the professor to go for. Long lectures, but interesting. STUDY for tests and quizzes, don't be lazy. You learn a lot form each class, so skipping out is not ideal and may result in a low grade. Overall, an amazing professor who makes learning interesting.
super easy class but if you wanna get in A you need to put in some work. His lectures are super clear and he tries his best to make all his students understand. His test aren't tuff if you study and he assigns a 4-5 pg essay.
Ben is such a great, quality professor. There is so much passion in his lectures, he gives great feedback, and really takes time to engage with the class. 6 easy peasy quizzes, 4 write ups that are very interesting and easy to write about, quick in class questions, and tons of extra credit. No doubt you will get an A, take his class!!!
Ben is an awesome teacher his way of teaching the subject is great. however his 50 questions "quizzes" and his 100 questions final are really hard, you have to really understand the material to be able pass them. The only advice I'd give for students who are taking his class is to study for the quizzes like when you study for tests to pass them.
One of the most miserable classes ever very tough and tests and final even harder. Homework was a pain as well.I would not recommend to anyone find another professor.
Statistics can be a tough subject, however Ben makes it all much more bearable! I had a lot of trouble with this class in the beginning because I never asked for help when I needed it. Don't be afraid to ask questions! Ben is there for you. Class is out of 100 pts. There is weekly aplia online hw, 7 quizzes (35 pts), and a 30 pt final.
Ben is an amazing professor. The material is a little tough so you definitely need to read as well as attend all the lectures. If you understand the material then the quizzes aren't too bad. Definitely would take the class again
READ THE BOOK and STUDY LECTURES! He is a tough grader but as long as you READ and STUDY HARD you'll pass. His class is interesting but his quizzes are more like test. I recommend taking his class if you are ready to put the effort of a 5-unit class in this 3 unit class. He is funny and passionate about the subject.
His lecture is hilarious and clear. Very good feedback and he tries to help students a lot in-class and out of class. If you are not lazy, you'll probably get the grade you want. Attendance is not mandatory, but you won't wanna skip it because lecture helps a lot.
Don't take his classes hoping to get an easy A. He is an AWESOME professor, but he won't hand you an easy grade. If you are willing to put in the effort for his classes, he will take that into notice. Also, he cares that you do well in his classes if he sees that you are interested and motivated.
I'd recommend his class if you want to learn the basic of psychology. You won't get easy A, but will learn what psychology is. I had a bit difficulty at the beginning, and he helped me a lot. His lecture goes moderate speed and is so hilarious. I'm taking his class again.
Ben is an amazing teacher. He kept the class interesting, but you earn what you work for. He is truly passionate about the subject and I really enjoyed his class
i love his class! he explained every single things clearly by showing you videos and ppts. Although sometimes his quizzes might be a little hard, it would be fun to do his assignment. He also gave good grade in assignments if you wrote completely.
Great professor, make sure you study and it will be an easy A. Do the reading and study and it will be easy. He makes the lectures interesting and fun
ehhh kind of a pompous know it all sort of character, is somewhat unclear of what will be tested on half of test is usually lecture based and half is book based that he will not teach you about, very hipster kind of guy obsessed with his silly tea, lots of work for a gen ed, has a dumb policy that you have to cover your scantron during a test
Professor is very fair and knowledgable of the material. PSYCH 1 is a class you can apply to real life. His method of teaching is very passionate as well. If you want an A on the class, prepare to work hard for it. It is also important to attend class to know the materials. Not an easy A or B but its do-able through hard work and dedication.
Commit and give your A game to get a high grade
I took Professor Mis for Psych 3. This class is difficult, make sure to do well on the homework and tests and you have a chance at a B. You can tell he cares about his students and wants everyone to do well. Super nice and understanding, if you're a psych major you will enjoy his class.
I took mis for psych 10, statistics. statistics in itself is a hard class, he broke it down and made it simple. I wasn't great in most of my math classes but mis' teaching style is engaging. the homework gives you three attempts there are practices, and he cares deeply About your success if you let him know your concerns.
Hes just the best. Loves what he teaches so his lectures are funny and interesting. Hes a laid back person but when it comes to school theres no messing around. His tests are hard, but worth it because the learning process is enjoyable with him.
Just read the book and take notes on his lectures. He doesn't give a study guide so you need to have a good understanding of everything he tests you on. The 6 Quizzes and final were easy and the papers are easy too. He gives you weeks to do them.
Knows his game pretty well. I was always excited for this class in particular. His lectures are absolutely amazing and will draw you in. This wont be a class youll be waiting to end.
Prof. Benjamin is a hilarious & intelligent, will explain topics in a different way if you ask. Theres 7 quizzes, drops the lowest and a cumulative final. The finals hard (dropped my grade from a A+ to B+) with 120 Q's to complete in 85min. quizzes have 3 bonus Qs and theres participation pts only when he notices there isn't that many kids in class
He is the best Psyc 10 professor. I learned a lot from his class, mainly how to work SPSS software.
I took him for Psych 3, the most helpful thing I did was go to all of his office hours and ask questions either to explain something that wasn't clear, give another example or to discuss psychology. If you read the book and review the powerpoints at the end of each week getting an A is doable, don't procrastinate.
This is an information packed class. If you want an A, I would spend a decent amount of time reading the book and going over his powerpoints. The class consists of 5 quizzes, 2 papers, and a final test. Time management is key because the quizzes consist of a lot of material, and it is easy to fall behind. The professor is funny making class fun.
How to pass a class with Ben Mis 101: Read the module of the textbook that is going to be discussed in the lecture (shown in the syllabus) beforehand! And make notes! Yes, it might be very tedious, but it will clear your head once you sit in his lecture! PLUS, it will help you prepare for the final since it's cumulative. GO to his office hours!
It should be noted that everybody likes Ben. hate math, but I never felt bored in his class. In my opinion, he achieves a good balance between lectures and hands-on math, and he uses real world examples to keep things interesting. By the way, he also has a great sense of humor. I recommend him!
I wish Professor Mis would go into more detail regarding the subjects he teaches. He teaches way too fast and doesn't go over things twice. I had a very hard time in his class.
Professor Mis is very knowledgeable and intelligent. However, he is a poor instructor. He does not explain concepts clearly and does not act in a professional manor. He utilizes profanity and does not prepare students for his exams. No study guide is provided and he gives little indication on what to study. I do NOT recommend him to anyone.
6 quizzes, 4 writing assignments, participation assignments, and a final. Basically, lots of chances to improve your grade. Go to his office hours to review any quizzes you bombed. Online textbook (which is free yay!) but I didn't actually read it. To do well on tests read the vocab terms and do the multiple choice q's at the end of each section
Hands down the best professor at IVC. He is extremely helpful and kind, requirements are straight forward, no surprises. The class is difficult and you do have to read a lot, but if you really put in the work, it pays off. I had him for two classes this semester and i learned so much from both! Midterm/final is heavy (no review guide).
Really grate professor, and he cares about students success. The class isn't easy and you do have to study a lot because the quizzes and papers are pretty deep and no exam guide but he is really helpful and offers occasional extra credit. TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU WANT TO LEARN.
He's a great professor, and person. Really cares about his students. Obviously will be tough if youre not a bio person, but he gives extra credit and has a clear criteria. One thing I didn't like is that he didnt have study guides! However, if you show him you care, you can get an A with effort!
Study for the quizzes, they are as long as tests and a huge part of your grade. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. The final is not easy but if you have a borderline grade give it your all. If you show up to every class and focus (don't use your phone in class he hates it). If you are borderline after the final, he may round you. He'll do this himself, don't ask
Psyc 3 is definitely challenging, especially if you don't have any anatomy/ physio background. READ THE BOOK BEFORE CLASS. Take notes from the chapters and definitely do the chapter questions from the book to practice. Also don't be afraid to talk to Ben if you are struggling, he will go out of his way to help you. Up to 5 pts Extra Credit on tests
Ben is not a good stat professor whatsoever, homework schedule is confusing and arbitrary. He doesn't even know when things are due or what's due. His explanations for math are simply not good, unclear, and often either incorrect or jargled. Terminology is not explained in an easy to understand manner whatsoever and needed formulas are not clear.
Ben is actually a very great teacher. He has funny stories and his lectures keep the students engaged. He is very clear about what will be on the quiz and what to do for the writing assignments. EVERYTHING ON THE POWERPOINTS IS ON THE QUIZZES. The best way I suggest to study is making a quizlet for every key term in the powerpoint and read book.
I haven't even gotten a grade yet, but I feel compelled to compliment Mr. Mis. He is absolutely HILARIOUS, and his classes are interesting and easy to understand. If you are struggling in this class, make sure you READ the book, take notes, and visit his office hours! He wants you to succeed, but if you don't wanna work, don't study psychology.
The professor makes the material easy to understand. He does give homework for every class but it's extremely helpful! His quizzes aren't extremely difficult. He does allow you to have a formula sheet for quizzes. He's caring and really funny. The material itself isn't so hard, it's all just following formulas and knowing when to use them.
Professor Mis is a great teacher. His lectures can be very funny at times. The class does consist of a lot of work, but it is manageable. You can go to his office hours too if you have questions.
Very easy online class. He posts lecture podcasts and powerpoints every week. HW quizzes through cengage, and questions to answer on canvas. A couple of papers but those are easy once you get started. No study guides but everything on the slides are on the exams. 2 (and I can not stress this enough) CUMULATIVE exams. Exams are DENSE.
Professor Mis is hilarious and I enjoyed taking his class. He allows you to use 1 formula sheet for the quizzes and final which helps a lot because there are a lot of formulas used throughout the semester. The weekly homework can be tough and time consuming, but its online and he gives you 3 attempts, taking the highest grade out of all attempts.
Really tough class because he provides NO study guide and expects you to know "everything". Very lecture focused because his slides don't even provide certain answers. Reading the book doesn't help at all because the quizzes are more specific to the slides. Oh yea, and quizzes are worth tests and he doesn't really try to help at office hours.
GOOD LUCK! It is obvious that he has no interest in helping students and gives smart responses to those who ask how to do better. He only respects students who do not have jobs and spend all day studying. LOTS of material to cover, boring lectures & no study guides. A miracle I made it through this class.
TWO WORDS: BIGGEST REGRET. Grade consists of 5 quizzes, 2 essays, & 2 presentations. Quizzes are basically tests (46 questions) and he doesn't provide study guides. Never posts his slides until day before EXAM.. Had a C- after failing all his quizzes, emailed for help and he said to get tutoring.. dropped his class and got an A+ with another prof
In his class, you will see Bens a big ol nerd in the awesomest way; he's unmistakably passionate about teaching. I began stats literally hating math and came out adoring it since he helps each student uniquely based on their needs. He cuts the bullcandid, yet approachable. It is clear Ben is truly giving, empowering, & prioritizes your success.
So idk what is w/ all the bad reviews those people didn't try. Prof. Mis is the best Prof. I have ever had in college my fav by far. He gives 6 quizzes 4-5 writing assignments and participation in class assignments. He gives a lot of EC opportunities. Final is cumulative. He posts his slides after each chapter, but show up to class for extra info.
I have no complains about him, but this class is a challenging class that I had in this semester. My advice for people who will be taking this class in the future don't take more than 15 units if you are taking this class since it can be really complex. And make sure you work hard and study hard for this class then you will be fine.
Great professor, his lectures are very interesting, his quizzes can be a little hard but he repalces your lowest score with your highest, he let us use our notes for a final. As long as you do all the work you will pass even if you pass the final. He is awesome would definetaly recommend.
One of the only classes I looked forward to. Lectures are super engaging too. As long as you pay attention to the material, you should do fine. Papers were also graded easy.
There's a midterm and final exam (cumulative), 3 papers + 1 e.c. paper (Make sure to do this! Raised my grade +6%), and homework every week. The exams were intense and there's a lot to remember. You really have to earn your grade for this class. Would recommend otherwise! Nice professor.
I was looking forward to this class because Professor Mis had good ratings on here. He was an alright teacher. His lectures were a little boring and he was very picky when grading. Midterm and Final (cumulative) were HARD. NO STUDY GUIDE EITHER. Don't go into this class thinking it's going to be easy. Very happy I got an A but I worked for it!
Ben is one of the smartest profs at ivc. His class is very hard and he expects a lot out of his students. But he takes notice of the students that are working hard and he wants to see you succeed in his class. Go to class and asks questions during lecture, he loves answering them, and he can answer almost any neuro-related question you have.
Mis was my favorite teacher the semester COVID hit. I really enjoyed his in-person class for PSYCH 1 and thought he was a truly great teacher. I took his online PSYCH 3 course and unfortunately that greatness did not transfer to his online course. He pays little attention to the non-honor class and the material is irrelevant to the tests and quizes
Professor Mis really cares about his students, and he's also very understanding. Psych 3 is a hard class in general, but his lectures were fun and he responds to emails really quick. He gives extra credit, and as long as you do the work, you'll pass the class!
Prof. Mis is very kind and keeps his lectures interesting. He is understanding and although the quizzes are a bit hard (no study guides) it's a great class (coming from someone who is an art major)! A lot of people dropped in the beginning and very upset with the class (i dunno why, honestly) but if you stick through it's worth it! 10/10 :)
If you are interested in psychology then you have to take his class! Though the class required a lot of reading and the quizzes are quite difficult. But you can get an A after reading the texts and watched his interesting videos. He also gives extra credits which you will definitely need them, so make sure you don't miss any information!
Very knowledgeable professor and lectures were always interesting and entertaining. There were a lot of quizzes in this course, so make sure you take good notes and remember the info from the lectures. Writing assignments make up a large part of the grade, but are easy to get a good grade on as long as you follow the directions.
More of a review for the class; it's not psychology, despite the name. I'm not a psych major, but my major is tied to the field, and I enjoy psychology discussion, but that's not what this class is. This is just biology and neuroscience. If this course isn't required, take another psych one. Professor's lectures are long; play at 2x speed.
The subject was interesting to me, especially for gen ed, but I dont like the teachers attitude. Not professional with students, treats them like friends which I find concerning
Great teacher. Cares about students. Highly knowledgeable and has a PhD in psych. I learned a lot from the classes and would take again in a heartbeat.
This class is super fun if you're interested in psychology. You will not pass if you do not watch the lecture videos or take notes on the chapter. Even though it is online, it has been fairly easy and enjoyable. I would take another class with him again.
I only had him for half of the semester until he went out on LOA. Lectures are lengthy, but it's the only way you will pass the course, along with tedious note-taking. He's very particular in what he wants in terms of HW and essays, so read the prompts thoroughly and ask any questions! He will always respond!
Criticisms: Quizzes will ask questions on a specific thing that was mentioned in a graph once, like they are just hard to be hard. It is impossible to get above a B on quizzes if you do not study every detail. But he replaces lowest quiz with highest. Lectures do not account for notetaking at all. You will be constantly pausing and writing.
