Prof. Pearl has a ton of experience working for major companies. The example problems he use during class are way better than anything in the course materials. If you get a chance, talk to him after class or during his office hours. He's great guy!
He a good Professor his exams are quite hard bu if you do the homework you will be fine. His lecture is interesting. Take Him.
He lists the problems that are going to be covered on the tests in the syllabus. Know how to do the homework he assigns, the problems he lists(on syllabus) and possibly the alternate problem set mcgraw hill offers on the e-version of the text and you should be fine. Concepts are somewhat important but problems are key. Good luck
He is very nice. Class is not extremely difficult, but he does not curve.
Very approachable professor (not that common in accounting depart). You just need to memorize a lot of definitions and complete case.
He's a really nice guy and he is very approachable. He tries to make the class interesting but AIS is really boring. One of the best accounting professors at baruch.
Very approachable, nice guy, material is super dull, need to read.
Just read the textbook and memorize it if not you're screwed.
He has real-world experience so he is helpful for Accounting majors. He's lenient in the sense that he WANTS his students to do well. Material is dry so try your best to memorize the TB. If you have a question about your grade or a question on the test, just provide PROOF for your answer and he will give you the credit. #blessyouprofessorpearl
He is, by far, one of the BEST Professors in Accounting Department at Baruch. Great lectures and anyone who gets to take him is extremely fortunate as he has amazing experience. He makes every effort to keep his class interesting as much as it is possible with subject thought. He is very approachable ! Highly Recommended.
Two options here, read the book very thoroughly, or remember the test bank questions. Lectures are borderline useless for the exams so don't indulge yourself in note taking.
The course itself is not the most interesting one, but he is really trying and succeeding in making it entertaining. Two midterms, final and the Waren Case as usual. He shares a lot of inspirational experience, always there to answer your questions and it could help if you participate in discussions.
He He is a fantastic professor. If you have a problem or need a clarification he will be more than happy to help you. I mean genuinely help you. It does not happen often at this department. He really wants you to learn. The most important part for me was the chance to listen to real life stories and examples. This made the is a wonderful professor
Really good Professor. To get an A in this class you need to read the book!
Tests was very hard. Hoping final will be easier or Will get a C :(
Really great professor! Overall, knows exactly what he's talking about within the industry, and makes lectures more interesting by relating what we're learning to the real world. 3 exams...2 midterms and the final. First midterm was easy, but the next two are difficult. The text is CRUCIAL, and make sure you read and do all the problems in the text
He doesn't give you a headache like many professors in acc department. Easy going, respects students, replies to emails immediately. The course material itself is easier than Financial II.. but be ready to selfstudy. Connect homeworks and questions on exams related to the textbook. I took during summer, we didn't have a group project .Take Pearl!
Nice Professor
Clear grading criteria, great sense of humor, easily accessible via email or after class if homework help or further explanation is requested
The lectures are not overwhelming, based on the PP, and supported by real life examples. He is very responsive via email and available after class. HW is for each CH, 2 midterms, final is non-cumulative. Practice tests are available for each exam. Reading and solving problems is a key. Positive attitude, fun, but expects hard work and self-study.
He is easy going and the lectures are not painful to sit through. He is entertaining and does have a good sense of humor. He gives two midterms and a final. The mid terms are not hard so make sure you do well in those because the final is tough! Does curve if the whole class does poorly.
Pearl, is the best professor in Baruch. I could take his classes over and over again. The best professor ever. Take him. Highly recommend.
I took this class in the summer. Fin acc is my least fav accounting course but Prof Pearl made it bearable. Although we had an 8PM class, he explained topics thoroughly and did not hesitate to help anyone who asked. His "iClicker" app made us feel more interactive in class. I got a B- because of lack of practice. I recommend 100%. TOO AWESOME!!!!
The subject matter sucks but he's good at explaining the material and using real life examples. Make sure you read the book because it helps clarify stuff. There are 3 exams, no project but he's using iclicker instead of connect so don't skip class! Super nice guy outside of class and easy to talk to. Highly recommend taking him.
Financial acc 3 is not an easy course but Professor Pearl's good at explaining the materials very clear and he used real-life examples. Read the textbook and do practice questions. 2 midterms and final. no project just connect homework. I would say he is the best professor in Baruch (Accounting Department). 100% highly recommend.
Pearl is a great professor. Outside of class he always responds to emails in the matter of minutes. Any questions you have he will clarify. Acc 4100 is a hard class, especially ch 9 and 10 but Pearl kept it fun and interesting. His iClicker tool was very fun! It kept me engaged in the class and definitely should be used to the students advantage.
Extremely knowledgeable Professor. His lectures are based on PP, and supported by his real life examples. 2midterms and final, connect for practice and iclicker for extra credit. Very responsive via email and available after class. His feedback and suggestions are valuable, and if you are willing to put in the work, you are in the right class.
Professor Benjamin makes the boring material in Acc 4100 very interesting and understandable. 3 exams , non-cumulative, and connect HW. Read the book, PPTs, understand the concepts and you'll be fine.
Taking Professor Pearl's class was the best decision I have made this summer. He does a great job explaining the material in a way that students would understand and be able to apply in their careers. He is always available for extra help and has a great sense of humor. Highly recommend!
This is the hardest professor ever. Avoid at all cost and save ur self I don't know how he have so good rating he is the worst I took his class after I saw his rating and I had to drop it and now my graduation will be delayed.
Does well at making a boring subject appear interesting. He is always upbeat in his lectures and loves to mention real life examples. He is also super personable and friendly, so I felt like I could approach him at any time. For this class, I'd recommend keeping up with all the HW carefully & studying alot on your own
Took his class last fall and must say that is he is one of the coolest professors at Baruch. Down to earth and fun personality helps with diagesting accounting. Good sense of humor! Respectful and willing to help if needed. I recommend him! Negative reviews below - must be haters.
Stay away and save your GPA!!!
I for one am not good at accounting. You really have to take it upon yourself to go the extra mile if you want an A in this class. You can't just show up and do the bare minimum and expect a good grade. Remember accounting is ranked! And it's HARD. But he was very lenient and gave us full credit for everything he could.
The lectures were completely useless because every single one of his powerpoints were rushed. I stopped attending his classes because I did not learn anything. Expect to self-study in this class if you want to pass. He's a mediocre professor; however, he has a great sense of humor and a lot of wits and sarcasm.
The best!!! Lectures are fun, Professor pearl has a great personality! He makes himself available outside of class & responds to emails quickly. I would take again 100%. Youre making a mistake if you dont take him!!
Best Professor I've ever taken. He cares about his students. Very knowledgeable and lectures are very interesting. He makes accounting easy to understand. Response emails very quickly. Read PP slides, book, and you will be fine. Practice more homework questions. 2 midterms, 1 final exam, homework, and group project. Definitely take him!!!
I took Prof. Pearl's acc4100 class. He is knowledgeable but his class is extremely boring. I couldn't learn a lot in his class because he covers his materials in extremely high speed, which in my opinion doesn't help students to have a full understanding of accounting.
Summer 10W: 3 exams, connect HW, an easy group project. Prof. Pearl clearly explains the scope of the course in the beginning of the semester. Baruch Acct % system applied. Youd always get your questions answered. He is CARING. Lots of studying and practice is required, so get ready. No boring lectures, thank to Prof. Pearls great personality.
He is a nice person. He repsonds your emails and questions promptly. But it doesnt relate anything to your grade. His exams are fair. His lectures are dry and cut. Get ready for self-study. He uses a lot of sources for the exam. Study and understand everything: Connect hw, questions on each chapter and outside sources if you have.
Prof. Pearl is great! He really cares about his students. This class is not an easy class, be ready to read, but he is doing his best to help you succeed. You will learn from him a lot! Very clear explanation. Take him you wont regret!
The best professor I have taken in Baruch so far. He prepares you well for the exams and gives you an extra credit. He makes the lectures fun and explains the material very well. He is the best choice for ACC4100 class.
This isn't teaching. You learn nothing. Stay away.
Reads slides from the textbook. You ask him a question, he'll read the slide back to you. Provides little to no help or information for learning the material. Snarky sarcastic answers to your questions. Everyone bombed the first midterm. This is a nightmare class. Take it with someone better.
Class is pointless, you need to learn everything on your own. Lectures are strictly reading from the slides. Exams are difficult. Take it with someone else.
Class is mostly based on lectures. Prof. Pearl is accessible and helpful outside of class. Prepares you well for the exams and provides Practice Exams which are very helpful for the midterms and final. Must take his class!!
Professor Pearl lectures the material very clearly and makes it easy to understand. Reading the textbook will make everything make alot easier!
Great Professor. Would highly recommend taking him for accounting 4100.
Take him! This class is definitely difficult but Prof. Pearl does his best to explain everything in detail. Attendance is not mandatory but I recommend attending or else you'll have a difficult time understanding the material. Lectures are good, he brings a lot of outside knowledge and is eager to help. A gem at Baruch for sure!
Prof Pearl will give a lot of homework. However, the only thing he cares is to submit those by due dates. You'll receive full marks even if the answer is not correct. This class was taken in John Jay. There will be 2 exams, a final, 8 SUA projects, about 3-4 homework, and 8 quizzes. It feels a lot but he only cares about completion.
This is an extremely difficult class, especially in Baruch! Prof Pearl understands the troubles of the students and tries his best to accommodate for them. Overall, I'd say his lecture is understandable and his tests are fair! I wish I could take him again for another accounting class :)
Professor Pearl is one of the best accounting professors I have in Baruch. Really caring and goes above and beyond to help his students. He is really accessible outside of the classroom. His exams are fair as long as you study and listen to him. A real gem for Baruch. Take him.
first two exams are similar to practice problems. Third exams are much harder. I felt it is similar to CPA questions. Which I am not as prepared. Nice prof. Take my phone calls. lol
You really have to work hard on this class. Professor Benjamin Pearl, he is really nice and down to earth. He makes this class easier and he always takes care of his students well. Fast reply with your emails and well-organized each lecture. You will have 3 exams(online; connect) but you have to record a video during your exam(you CANNOT CHEAT).
He is amazing: intelligent, talented, kind, caring, and has a great sense of humor. His course is well-organized. He knows that the material is not easy, but he wants you to do well and will always do his best to help you. Brings in a lot of outside practical knowledge. His lectures are clear and tests are fair. Would take him again in a heartbeat
Professor Pearl is a great teacher. He responds very fast to emails and understands that this class is hard so he does his best to ensure his students are learning. 3 exams which were online- totally fair if you pay attention to class. Final exam was a bit harder but if you study and pay attention, you will pass
Benjamin Pearl is a nice pro I had ever meet in Baruch. I took his summer class in 10 weeks. It is a heavy class, however, Mr. Benjamin makes it funny. He also delivery many concepts connect to CPA, not only from the book. HW is in connect, Smartlearn is not necessary. summer class does not require group work, instead of M&A assignment in connect.
My favorite prof in Baruch. This is the easiest accounting class I have ever taken. He is a caring and amazing prof. He cares students and gives fast feedback. 3 exams. connect Hw and M&A. If you study, easy to get A. Final exam is a little harder, but he gives you a chance to get extra credit. Take him!!!!
THE Awesomenest Professor ever! Fastest feedback! He knows accounting is tough so he cares students. 3exams, live(video recording), 4 M&A assignments, hw, everythings on connect. An written extra credit. Just took him this summer. No group works, instead we had those M&A. Easy A! Just take him take him, wont regret!!!!!
Pr. Pearl brings enthusiasm and experience to every lecture that he gives. His great sense of humor makes lectures very fun. Also, he is very approachable and understanding, and always keeps an open line of communication with his students. I definitely recommend him to other students.
Professor Pearl teaches very effectively considering its summer session. 3 exams each for 25% of final grade, 15% homework ,10% Participation and additional 2-3% extra credit. Everything is done on Connect. He's articulate, explanatory and very likable. He is like a caring mother hen - Overall very luck to have taken him.
Professor Benjamin is always ready to help and explain the material in detail in person and through email. His lectures are clear and provides practice to well prepare you for exams. Connect SmartBook helps understand the concepts and the homework problems are good word problem practice. Definitely would recommend!
I took this class in the Summer. Professor Pearl is such an understandable person. Not only he teaches in a way students would learn but he would also care for his students. He is very responsive and very well respected. Really recommend this professor!
Of course a lot of to read and process, his lectures are intense because the information is difficult and the summer semester is tough. Read the book and do problems, still, there's a chance to screw up your finals. He cares about students and always responds quickly and there's a chance to improve the mess you get into. Thumbs up to the professor
Prof. Pearl's class was one of the easier accounting classes at Baruch. There were more assignments to get grades on instead of your grade being determined by two tests. The tests were pretty fair with the final a bit harder. If you did the hw and practice exams as well as a bit more studying, you were fine. Overall, he was very fair &understanding
Even you read the whole book, you cant get an A, cause the exam cover lots of stuffs that are not mentioned in the book or class. What he did in class is to read the PowerPoint, which is also useless. The grading is also unfair. Students will take different version of exam.
Links the topics to his personal industrial experience as well as inviting other professionals too, which helps a lot in understanding the real-world problems. The course itself is hard but he tries making it easier by providing us question examples. Online exams so no paperwork hassle. Easy presentations and he is kind enough to curve the grade.
Professor Pearl is an extremely talented professional and he will do his best to set you up for success. He is always available outside of class if you have any questions. His class is set up in a way that will discipline you in accounting classes and prepare you for the CPA. Work hard in this class and you dont have to worry. Highly recommend.
Professor Benjamin J Pearl is the best professor, I have ever had so far! He is very knowledgeable, inspiring, caring, and kind. Despite the switch to distant learning the class was a lot of fun. I enjoyed every minute of his lectures. Highly recommended!
Prof. Pearl is one of the best professor I have taken in the Accounting department. He is clear, well spoken, helpful and CARING about his class. This summer semester was online so our classes were online but I still enjoyed the class. It's only 10 weeks so a lot to learn and study especially since it's Summer. I would take him again if i have to!
Caring and understanding professor, real gem! 10 Weeks, Quiz every week with test every other week covering two chapters that AREN'T cumulative.
Amazing Professor. Very organized and with regular testings, you will not feel overwhelmed at once. Excellent lectures and will do everything to help you succeed the class. High quality overall. Respond in real time to your questions. Always available if needed. Guide you through the semester to meet the requirements of the class.
Pro. Pearl, is an amazing, caring, respectful, helpful and well organized Professor. He answers questions during lecture, never gets annoying if he has to repeat an explanation, gives practice problems, always available to explain or help with homework. Accounting is no easy, but he makes this enjoyable and fun, not hard learning but fun learning.
Professor Pearl, must take if you want to get through this course. Theres a lot of material to cover, but I recommend Professor Pearl to walk you through the journey. He is patient, understanding, and overall a tremendous professor. Ive learned a lot, mainly about accounting, but also about myself.
Professor Pearl is one of the best professors you can find, and one of the smartest people youll know. Super knowledgeable about everything he teaches and beyond, very accessible outside the class. The material is intense, so that is really much needed help, plus, hell make the class fly by bc he is funny and charismatic. Loved him and his class
I highly recommend taking Professor Pearl's class. Not only was he very helpful and knowledgable, but his class was also somewhat of a stress break from Baruch's normal accounting class grading style. In this class there were plenty of chances to bring up your grade with homework or quizzes. Although it was a decent amount of work, it was worth it.
Amazing Prof. Really helpful and nice. In short TAKE HIM!!! He will explain no matter how many times you ask. Took him over the Summer and he had a well organized course. Quizzes after each chap, Tests after every 2 chaps, 5 Company assignments(small projects - easy) and the regular hw on connect. Learned a lot as well as enjoyed. He is a Gem!!!!
ACC 4100 is one of the most difficult accounting classes at Baruch, so you really need a good educator to guide you and teach you the material in a way you understand the best. You absolutely need to put in work and there are lots of work to be done in this course. However, he is excellent at teaching, supportive, encouraging, and super helpful.
He would be there to guide and assist you in every way possible. He promptly responds to messages; respects and genuinely care for all his students. He represents the perfect example of what every Educator should strive to become. He gives his students a good chance of succeeding. Has a great sense of humor, the absolute best! Take his class.
Professor Pearl is great. ACC4100 is a heavy class, but If you have class with him, you won't feel bored at all. He has very good personalities. His class structure is also quite clear.
He really cares his students and made this class much easier. Always available outside class.
He really cares about his students and answers messages/emails quickly! The class itself is hard and there is a lot of work, but he is willing to help you succeed if you put in the effort. He makes the lectures enjoyable, too. Clear grading rubric.
Great Professor!
TAKE HIM! You WILL NOT regret it! Taking him was the BEST decision I ever made. I truly struggled in this class as the material is insanely hard (but obv. that's not his fault). Prof. Pearl was ALWAYS available to help me. Thanks to his support and guidance I am going to graduate timely because he took the time to help me every step of the way. :D
The work is excessive and not realistic for someone with a full time job let alone a family. A better teacher for undergraduate rather than graduate courses.
Highly recommended
Took in 2021. He reads off of his slides that are pretty much copied straight from the text. He doesn't highlight relevant areas that accountants follow today. There are 3 exams and 8 hours worth of hw per week. After a lot of students complained about the first exam (deserved btw) he allowed students to drop the lowest test. Terrible at emails too
This prof assigns over 16 hours of hw per week. He's hit or miss with emails. There are three exams for this class. A lot of people did bad on the first exam so he told the class that he would drop the lowest test grade but he only told us a week or 2 before the second exam. His slides are straight from the book and he covers unnecessary topics
easiest and chill professor who is a no nonsense person and makes his exams and hws straightforward. u wont get that from any acc prof at baruch
He's an amazing professor, very straightforward and also very chill. Everything is explained clearly, so there's no confusion. If you have any concerns or aren't able to submit something by the due date, he's very understanding and willing to help if you ask. Take him if you can.
