This class is just a lot of stuff to memorize, but he is a cool professor. Always sends out good emails and grades tests quickly.
Dr. Perlman might be the worst professor at CSULB. His lectures will put you to sleep and lecture slides are so text heavy its impossible to figure out what information is actually important. He also doesn't provide any type of study guide for the multiple choice so you basically have to know the entire text book. He straight up sucks as a prof.
He barely prepares you for tests, and tests are very difficult.
The guy knows a lot about the subject but he talks so much that you don't retain anything of substance. Lectures are beyond boring. His tests are multiple choice and free response, and the grading for the free response is not quite fair.
Dr. Perlman is an extremely ineffective professor. Lectures are super boring, he doesn't help you prepare for exams at all, and his tangents are not only boring but really annoying. Get ready to memorize the textbook if you take him.
Dr. Perlman is a great professor. He tries his best to make lectures interesting, but it is just a lot of material to cover. He is always willing to help, but I just wish there wasn't so much information to memorize. You basically have to know every word on every slide. Spent most of my time on this class this semester. 400 slides per test :(
You can tell that Dr. Perlman really wants to help his students. It is just an insane amount of material to memorize. Not really conceptual at all. And it didn't help that the material was not very interesting. You basically learn about every living species on earth. But I hear BIO 211 is just a lot of info regardless of professor. Would take again
He's very passionate about his work and it's very evident when he lectures. However theres just a bunch of stuff that we need to go through and the way he presents the material is a bit dry. He is very helpful and tries to give advice so that we can do better if you go to his office hours. Go over his power points before the exams.
Passionate lecturer, a new professor here but tbh students are mad at him for letting others cheat (as if he was like yea guys go for it). Even told us, couldn't make us all (266) retake the exam cause it wouldn't be fair for those who studied hard plus no time left in semester. Memorize powerpoints, be able to conceptualize, bio 211 is hard.
A lot of people may be upset that they didn't get a good grade in the class, but all his exams were fair and doable if you just went over the slides. All the other Bio 211 professors present the same amount of information. This class just has a ton of info but it is doable if you start early and learn the PowerPoints.
Read textbook but then focus on lecture material. Decent lecturer but can lose you. However, it is in your best interest to pay attention as tests are lecture heavy (take physical notes). Funny at times and sometimes curves tests. Clear lecture style and heavily power point reliant. A filter class so be prepared to study and DON'T UNDERESTIMATE.
Ben is a really caring professor who communicates well with his students. His lectures are really long and boring, but you need to show up in order to get participation points. He grades promptly. The tests can be little overwhelming at times. Read the textbook!!
Dr. Perlman's class is lecture heavy and kind of hard to stay focused on but he makes sure that the students understand what he's teaching. Going to his office hours helps a lot and his labs are easy. Make sure you read the textbook because there is a little bit of self teaching that you have to do. Definitely recommend him for BIO 205!
Dr. Perlman is such a caring professor! Really tries to make sure students understand even though lectures can get very heavy. He makes himself accessible outside of class so take advantage, definitely have to study!!
this guy is nice but however, his tests are super hard there is no way you can do good even if you study. his lab exams are fairly easy. I would suggest take another professor for this class.
Professor Perlman is a chill person, he talks a lot but tries to get all the criteria in before time is up. He cares about his students a lot. At the end of the lectures, he puts study guides and thats the only help he can give you for the test. Bio is a text heavy course, but he makes it manage for students.
Dr. Perlman is a caring professor who always offers help to his students. His study guides are extremely helpful, just make sure to fill them out using info from the lecture slides. The class is lecture heavy, but there's a ton of info to cover and Perlman does a good job utilizing class time. Also recommend him for the lab portion of the course!
His lectures are fill in the blank, so you do have to go to class. After each chapter, he puts in a study guide and its super helpful for the tests so make sure you look them over.
Ben is truly a diamond in the rough and one of the most dedicated professors at csulb, however you wont pass this class if you do not put in the effort. Although his test are heavy content based, attending his office hours is extremely helpful. Hes always willing to help his students out. Also try to take him for lab if possible, he is amazing!!
He is an amazing professor! He honestly wants you to pass the class. If you miss lecture you wont have the PowerPoints for the study guide questions at the end. But he is super helpful, available for office hours, and does EVERYTHING to help you understand the material and pass the class. Honestly take him!!!
His class was definitely one of the easiest science classes I've taken so far. He provides everything you need on the exam in his PPT notes. You do have to go to class to fill in the blank (unless you can ask a friend). You did had to buy the textbook for HW. Exams werent too bad. There was always a short answer portion and multiple choice.
He is such a great and bright professor. It was his first time teaching BIOL 205 so all his lecture notes were from the previous BIOL 205 professor. The exams are very hard half multiple choice and the other half short answers. Make sure you study hard for 4 exams. ALSO GO TO CLASS!!!!
Perlman is a great professor who tries his best to help students learn the material. The tests are hard but as long as you know what you are learning, go over powerpoints and the textbook you should be fine. Study guides didn't really help. Overall, this class is easy if you study and understand the material.
Ben is a great professor! My first time taking this class (with a different professor) I got a D, but in Ben's class I got a B. He is super helpful and very understanding. His lectures are long but easier to understand than any other bio teacher. Take Ben's class! He's the best. Also go to his office hours before tests, he helps as best as he can.
Great prof! More than happy to help. Reliable office hrs, fill in the blank PPs, attendance not mand. but recommend, studied using Qs at end of PP & online study mods. 4 exams, a little hw, EC assignments offered (lab has weekly/cumul. quizzes, lab reports, & group project). Bio book available on website called archive. Enjoyed the class a lot :)
I had him for physiology lab. This was my first course on my first day at CSULB and he was very caring and made sure I felt comfortable with everything. He is very caring about his students and is very reasonable and if you let him know in advance, he will do his best to accommodate for whatever you need. He is great with answering questions.
He's a great professor! Truly cares about his students and tries his best to make sure you get your education and pass the class. It's a hard class so you'll have to work for it. Attendance not mandatory but you'll won't the class if you skip a lot. The exams are extremely hard, but the assignments and projects really makes up for it.
STAY FAR AWAY FROM PERLMAN FOR ANATOMY. For the first couple classes he lectured then we spent the rest of the semester doing in class questions instead of him lecturing. I felt like i wasnt really learning just copy and pasting information and not understanding any of it
208 IS NOT HARD- pure memorization. Lectures were turning in q's for points, and we could leave early. Tests were straightforward (just study the ppts) and we had EC opps in both lab/lec. Perlman answered any q's just fine during lecture, resolved grade discrepancies quickly, and wasn't afraid to re-evaluate any questionable exam q's. Nice guy!
You have to memorize everything on the slides!! Each exam consists of 5-7 lectures. There's A LOT of information that u need to know & it's a struggle since he doesn't lecture. Go to office hours for lab & start on lab manual asap. Do not procrastinate it will hurt ur grade. Bio 208 is a difficult course but its doable if u put in time & effort
I went in thinking I was gonna fail but ended up with an A so this course is definitely doable; however, you MUST put in the time to study! Powerpoints are pretty hefty, memorize them for the exams which were multiple choice and short answer. Study guide questions at the end of the powerpoints are NOT useful tbh...
Out of 25 lectures throughout the semester, Perlman lectured 3 times. The other times he simply put up questions to answer in class, so we'd have to learn everything by ourselves in our own time. His exams are doable if you memorize every detail on his lecture slides. He is caring, but the reverse lectures are ridiculous.
Super interesting class, loved it. Benjamin is very chill and very smart. Lecture notes online and straight from the textbook. Exams are multiple choice and short answer. Lecture notes include a study guide at the end which I HIGHLY recommend you fill out. Extra credit is given to those who show up! Not an easy A, but an A is not out of reach!
Perlman was more than willing to help you succeed as long as you put your part. His study guides were useful and reflected 75% of his exams (MC + short answers). Attend every lecture (may give extra cred.) since every powerpoint was loaded with lots of info. Assigned Mastering Bio online HW but most answers were on quizlets. TAKE S/I... IT HELPS!
If youre taking him for Bio 208, please switch. I can count how many times hes done traditional lectures with one hand. He makes his students do lecture questions that you answer using the ppts DURING class and you get one point for answering 20+ questions.
I hope you like studying for hours on end because he literally only lectured about 3 times the whole semester and makes you do over 20 q's with 4 parts EACH during every class (aka copying ppt slides) FOR 1 POINT. Can't tell you how many times there were problems with exams b/c there were questions that didn't correspond to slides/info left out.
Dr. Perlman is so kind and really cares about the success of his students. He teaches a flipped lecture and while it is difficult, it makes test straight forward because you know what is going to be on it as long as you study. I really enjoyed Dr. Perlman and he is a great guy and academic resource overall.
Although only worth 25% of the grade, the lab will take up most of your time, where you learn the specifics (name of bones, muscles, etc). You take a quiz at the start of lab based on the new & old material. You can't study the night before and expect to get a good grade. Lab practicums are not cumulative (doesn't cover info from last practicum).
Great professor! Perlman explained all the material in detail and was very respectful when we asked questions. But you need to work for the A: do well in lab, quizzes, Mastering Bio, and especially at exams. On exams, you have to apply the definitions you memorized to various scenarios. Attending office hours and finding practice Q's help so much.
Dr. Perlman really cares about his students and is so approachable. Ask questions and get to know him during office hours. His lectures are clear and everything you need to know for the test will be on the slides. Just need to study a lot.
Dr. Perlman is one of the nicest and most engaging professors. It's a flipped classroom so most learning is done prior to coming to class. There are many assignments, worksheets, and group work. He is fair when it comes to grading and lets students know what will be on the exams.
Dr. Perlman is an amazing lecturer and I've had him for BIOL 211 too. All his lectures are recorded so if you can't make class, it's no problem. His exams are very straightforward and as long as you pay attention to lecture and study the homework assignments, you will succeed in this class. There's also EC opportunities on exams, etc.
Dr. Perlman is well organized and communicated efficiently during and outside of class. Assignments are fair with reasonable due dates. Exams were also fair but you must review the slides. Provides study guides and plenty of resources to study. No need to buy the book, all the material on his exams come from his slides and videos.
If you take this Professor, I would gradually make your own small study guide for each chapter as you go so youre not scrambling when its exam time. He does provide a study guide, but youll be better prepared if you start your own as you go. If you do that and all the online work, you should have at least a B! Super nice professor! <3
The best professor I had in CSULB so far! Dr. Perlman is accessible, enthusiastic, and caring. His class was very interesting. He had office hours like 4 days a week and he is always happy to answer your questions. He also recorded all the lectures.
I was so nervous for anatomy but Ben was such a great prof, especially online! He explains things well and is super available if you need help. Anatomy is just a hard subject but I would definitely recommend Ben if you can take him. I like the pace of his lectures and how well he explains concepts. Love him!
I had ben for both 211 and 350. Ben is a great person but I did not enjoy his class in 211. I think it was because it was an intro course with a lot of info to get through. However, I loved having Ben for 350. He wants everyone to succeed and is straight up. There are no trick questions. There's a lot of hw/ws but it's super easy and easy points.
Professor Perlman is an outstanding professor. For being an online class, he truly made it enjoyable. He wants his students to succeed. Tests are straightforward, he is not trying to trick you. Pre-lecture quizzes to make sure you did the reading with 4 exams. He was always available during office hours. Very passionate about his job. Love him
He is truly an amazing professor and person. If he sees you care about his class and participate he'll obviously care about you and your grade too. This class isn't TOO hard, but make sure to go over his lecture slides and take notes since the majority of the test is based on the information in his slides. Dr. Perlman made this class so interesting
Perlman was one of the most caring and understandable professors I have had so far! His class is fairly difficult, even if you study all the lecture vocabulary words and questions that are at the end of each powerpoint. He does know what he's talking about so just go to him for extra help if you need it !! Overall great professor.
Ben was a great professor. He was truly engaging and you can tell that he cares about the material he is teaching. However, it is a LOT of information that is hard to memorize. Study as you go and answer the questions at the end of the powerpoints to prepare for the exams. The RRQ's are kind of pointless, but they arent difficult. Overall, not bad.
Had him for anatomy lab and he was super sweet and great at teaching. 100% recommend . Hes always cheery and in a good mood which is much needed especially since the labs are tiring. Always eager to help and elaborate. Goes through the manuals as fast as possible.
I liked him and his class for 90% of the semester. However, at the end of the semester, he decided to cram 4 lectures in the last 4 DAYS of the semester (not 4 classes) and assigned probably over 100+ questions. He is really caring and his lectures are easy to understand, but a lot of information. There was nothing wrong with him until the end.
Prof. Perlman is a very understanding professor and genuinely cares about his students. Anatomy is tough but he makes the content digestible and provides opportunities for extra credit and easy points through homework assignments. If you put in the time each week, this class should be manageable. I definitely recommend taking him for Anatomy!
Dr. Perlman was a great professor. He's really enthusiastic about what he's teaching, which makes lectures interesting. Do the study questions, know the vocab, and go to office hours because the tests are mostly based on the slides. Reading the textbook before class helps too because he goes over the info kind of quickly.
Dr. Perlman is a great professor, would recommend him to anyone. Be sure you do well on the RRQs because thats the majority of the grade besides exams. Very helpful during office hours and cares about students beyond the classroom. Lectures can drag on sometimes but all the information is useful. End of lecture review is incredibly helpful
Professor Benjamin is a great professor of anatomy. Anatomy is a difficult course, but his lectures and way of teaching greatly help. The questions after each lesson help to review for tests and ensure you know the material. I also took an SI course which largely helped. Lectures are also recorded which helps for reference of info. Great professor!

I think Perlman is a great professor. His lectures are a little boring since it's basically just stating info off the slides but everything on his exams were right off his slides. Pretty easy to do well on the exams. Just memorize slides and you're good. Ended up skipping class a few times but all his lectures are recorded.
Lectures are super easy if you know the information from the ppt slides. Professor's exams are based on information from the ppt slides. Lecture will carry your grade in this class if you do badly in lab. Lab is pretty challenging, but the easiness in lecture will make up for it. Professor responds very respectfully to all emails.
This is literally one of the hardest classes Ive ever taken. Tests are so so hard our class has not gotten a passing average yet. I would recommend taking it at a community college if you wanna pass lol.
Taking this class in person is so much harder. There are 3 exams and 1 final and so far the class average for tests has still been an F and he won't curve it. Take anatomy at a community college bc this was the hardest class I've taken bc of the way it's structured. Perlman is a nice person but this class is the worst
one of my favorite teachers, he's super helpful in office hours and is a very kind teacher. that being said, you WILL fail his tests if you do not actually study. his tests are based solely on the ppts (which have useful vocab/study q's at the end... which are VERY important to know). three tests and one final, easy "hw", easy lab --- just study!!
This was the hardest class I've ever taken, I recommend just taking anatomy at a cc. This class will take hold of your entire life for the semester, so say goodbye to a social life/work. However, if you have to take it here, Professor Perlman is a very kind and helpful professor, provides plenty resources. Definitely enroll in an SI and attend OH.
He isn't a bad professor but there are better professors that you can take. He genuinely cares and wants you to succeed. There is no extra credit. You don't really need to attend lectures because he posts his lecture slides. The only homework he gives is lecture questions which are a good way to study and review for exams.
Anatomy is a hard class, but he really tries to make the material interesting and engage with the class. There's very little homework. A lot of his test questions are based on the lecture questions. He doesn't offer extra credit assignments, but there are extra credit questions of the tests. I suggest taking an SI because there is a lot to learn.
Dr Perlman was overall a amazing professor. Anatomy is just hard in general and I couldn't keep up with the concepts. definitely recommend taking SI for BOTH lecture and lab because there is so much information to keep up with. Lecture homework twice a week and tests are hard (contains mc and short response). There is not that much extra credit
JUST TAKE COMMUNITY COLLEGE. fr. my understanding, all the A&P professors here are difficult. the subject itself is hard, and prof perlman just makes it harder by stuffing dense materials into each exam. tells us we don't need to know something then puts it on the test. expect to have to memorize slides word for word for an A. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED
Take it at a community college or take Gardner. This class is possible to get an A with him but requires so much time and studying due to the number of short answers you have to memorize. Do yourself a favor and take another professor. He is very nice but his testing format is very difficult
Everything we need to know for this course is on the slides. Which is good because then we wouldn't need to refer to the textbook. However, the slides are absolutely Packed with information. It can be a bit overwhelming at first, so make sure you find a consistent study routine! Ben is really nice and easy to talk to, so don't hesitate to go to OH!
Professor Perlman lectures very well for this difficult course. He was always helpful during his office hours when I needed something explained. Pay attention in lecture because lecture exams are worth 35% of the total grade. Join an SI & form study groups because this was the hardest class I've taken this semester. Memorize the powerpoints & hw!!!
Professor Perlman is a very kind professor who cares about his students. His lectures are very heavy, and his slides can get very wordy, which makes it hard. I had to spend a lot of time outside of class understanding the concepts. He doesn't offer study guides, so you just need to memorize basically all his slides. Go to his OH it helped a lot!
As I'd expect of most anatomy classes, this class is VERY content heavy. Perlman's very kind and enthusiastic, and does a fair job at lecturing (though he does sometimes veer off topic). His exams consist of MC and FRQs, so you have to memorize nearly everything. The class will require LOTS of dedication if you want an A, but it's very possible!
Take this class at a CC. I thought people were being dramatic about the class taking up your whole life but they weren't kidding. Perlman is passionate but is not the type of professor that goes out of their way to make sure all his students can pass his class. A good grade is possible but not without sacrificing a lot of other parts of your life.
Encouraged participation & asking questions. Heavy workload expected for anatomy, but you're always drowning in homework with no time to digest lecture information before the next deadline approaches. 2 weekly deadlines for 4 homework assignments + doing the lab work. Wish he'd given me more time to study on my own terms than stress over deadlines.
The course is challenging, but following his advice, paying attention to his SQ, and going to his OH, helps a lot. I was fascinated by his teaching style and made me passionate about this class. His professionalism, infinite patience, availability and promptness in responding to emails are qualities that make him one of the best prof I have ever met
I loved his class and taking more with him. He really cared and listened to students and just asked for communication and respect. He really loves what he does. Some of his deadlines are a little tight but overall very reasonable and accommodating.
Love this professor, if u don't want to spend hours on reading books to catch up. GO TO LECTURE. There was 4 exam. I aced all of the exam and never got below 80%. Read the lecture, study the terms and question he gives. To review, read the book create your own question and answer them. Repeatedly do the HW over and over.
Amazing Professor and he offers extra credit opportunities. If you study the lecture power points, do assignments and extra credit homework you will have A.
He is a great professor who tries to make lectures as exciting as they can be for anatomy. There is homework every class due by the next class, but it is all the same information that will be on the exams. He offers alot of help in and outside of class, if you put in the work he makes this class really bearable.
really nice and understanding guy but the class is hard; especially tests. it is completely possible to go through the entire class with mediocre test score and still pass with an A as long as you do all the other assignments. lecture questions for every lecture; they may be cumbersome but the points add up so don't skip them!
SUPER content heavy as expected,a decent lecturer;I wished he made the homework extra credit/optional the week before/during exams to leave time to study;the homework was handwritten questions every week.I also wished his class was more lined up with the lab,and the tests were one week lecture next week lab,so you don't really catch a break.
He is a good lecturer. There are study guides at the end of his lecture slides that are very helpful for his exams, and sometimes the questions to them. His exams are lecture heavy. They consist of 50+ slides with lengthy paragraphs. Studying and practicing the study guides did help my grade when I was failing. Overall respectable professor.
Great professor when it comes to communication via email or during office hours. I had an issue with my lab TA this semester and responded right away to make sure the issue was resolved. Do not wait until the last minute to study, each lecture PowerPoint covers so much material. The study guide questions help immensely with FRQ's.
GREAT PROFESSOR! Anatomy is already full of heavy content but Perlman makes it fun and interesting! Exams are based on the slides and if he says to cover the topical stuff, just go over EVERYTHING!!! 3 exams, 1 final, 3 lab practicums. STUDY STUDY STUDY! Lecture questions that he gives are very helpful to prep for exams!
i think that Professor Pearlman is a super sweet and caring teacher. he is super passionate for what he teaches, and he also makes sure that his students understand what he is teaching. if you just talk to him, he can be super understanding of you and whatever your situation may be. overall chill teacher and if you study. he's also very welcoming
PLEASE TAKE PERLMAN. AMAZING lecturer & cares about students. He knows what he's talking about and goes in depth in every topic that is covered. It is so important that you go to lecture, but it's doable because lecture is really interesting. His slides are straight to the point and has everything you need to know for the tests all in bullet points
BENJAMIN PERLMAN is a sweetheart. He goes very well in depth in each concept and adds on the slides with how concepts are applied. His examples are very important to note because he ends up adding those in the tests. He is open for any criticism on what he could do to do better, but he honestly doesn't need it.
Perlman is SO kind. BUT, his exams are very difficult. as someone who studied the slides and new the material WELL.. the exams are not very similar. his working is odd and the average on the first two exams was a high D. I would reccomend the other professors for the exam aspect although, perlman is truly so kind and helpful.
This is the best you can get for an Anatomy class. Lab is another beast. Awesome professor, offers lots of E.C. The tests are all straightforward, all the answers are on the slides but MUST BE GOOD AT MEMORIZATION!! E-book required, but mainly for lab. I never read the book. Average for tests were D's/C's, idk why. Study and you'll get an A (87.5%)
Dr. Perlman is like Eh. He's sweet and a nice professor, but I found his class a bit unorganized in terms of his lectures and what he expected us to know for lecture exams. But, he does give a lot of EC and he is very understanding (accepts late work). Pretty easy though IMO. Highly recommend if you need to pass this class for your major!
Ben was a great professor, his grading is very clear, he offers a lot of extra credit that can help your grade if you need it. And he is very kind and wants his students to succeed in his course. His lectures were very text heavy, but he made it very tolerable. As long as you do your work and study the study questions he gives you, you will do good
BEN IS THE BEST PROFESSOR IVE EVER HAD! Yes, his exams are hard, but if you study you will not fail this class! Easy homework and he records every lecture which is very helpful for review. He also prepares you well for every exam and is always available to talk to
Ben is a really nice, approachable guy who tends to give helpful tips on studying anatomy. He also gives lots of extra credit to help you grade stay afloat, since lab is no joke due to the amount of material involved. His exams contain some tricky MCQs, but easy & simple FRQs. He has 3 exams, 3 lab practicums, a final, lecture questions, and RAMs.
Exams are very specific and detail-oriented so many sure you study all the slides. His study questions at the end are very helpful for the FRQs but don't rely on them. He gives plenty of extra credit and is super passionate and eager to help! If you ever have questions don't hesitate to email him or go to office hours, he wants to see you succeed.
Perlman is a great professor! He's quite funny and will go over material if there's any questions. His lectures however are quite fast and content heavy. His lectures are on zoom and recorded which is great if you can't make it to class and as a way to review for exams.
Very good professor! He's quite funny and very willing to review topics if there's any questions. The lectures are quite heavy and fast paced. He also has his lectures on zoom and recorded so its really helpful for when you can't make class or want to review!
Absolutely incredible professor. His lectures are great but obviously its not always gonna be fun to listen and take notes. If you show up and give him your full attention, take notes, and actually attempt to learn, the class will go great. Exams are directly from lectures and he says in class when you need to know something, 10/10 professor.
He tries his best to help us. He's very sweet and caring. Very lecture heavy but he gives a lot of study questions at the end, study those as those are what will help you. It's quite rigorous but he curves the exams if needed and gives lots of extra credit. He's always there to help you, and will even extend office hours if you need to chat more.
Great professor! Exams are a bit hard, but his slides and study guide are all you need. I barely went since it was 8am (he prefers attendance), but you can pass easily if you study and do the homework and Learning Curves on the other site. Very clear teaching!
Great and enthusiastic instructor with very clear, straightforward lectures and a good sense of humor. The exams are lecture-heavy, but he provides vocab words and review questions after each test so you know what to study and can succeed. The labs are easy.
Dr. Perlman was incredibly caring and was extremely enthusiastic with his teaching. He provides study questions and vocab at the end of each lecture and if you study those you will basically get an A in the class. He gives you all the resources you need to succeed and is overall a great professor. I highly recommend.
