Class is 60% lecture, 40% lab. 4 lecture exams, 1 cumulative final, drop the lowest test. Exams are pretty straight forward, questions come directly from slides. Lab is much harder and takes more time. Weekly quizzes, 2 practicals, and a PPT presentation. Know everything on the objectives sheets and study hard. It's a lot of information.
Lab is the only difficult part if you attend lecture
Great professor! He makes the material interesting and does not try to trick you on exams. Lab requires a lot of memorization. Both lab TAs are very helpful and nice
Nice guy. Cares about his students. Lab is seriously difficult and does not correlate with the lecture.
Predmore may know his stuff but he really does not do a good job conveying the information to us. He expects us to be on his level and it's ridiculous how fast he goes through the material. He can be really rude if you ask too many questions. Try NOT to take this class with him, if at all possible!
goes through lecture material way too fast. difficult class
If there is one thing I regret about this class...it would be not studying hard enough for the Lab quizzes. Exams are pretty straight forward...straight from the lecture notes with bonus questions from TA lectures and videos...and only a couple (1-3) of questions from the book. For lab...MEMORIZE THAT MUSCLE CHART EARLY!
Dr. Predmore is new to USF and really understands his biology. Just be careful if you miss and exam you will have to take an essay test. There was 25 extra credit..READ THE BOOK and know all the details, it can be taxing but if you want an A you have to know the book front to back. Don't have to go to class.
Nice guy, boring class. Just read from powerpoint. Class is mandatory bcuz of clicker questions for a big grade. I thought tests were easy but he always found a way to switch up the answers to confuse everyone. What he thinks is clear, confuses most people bcuz he teaches upper level courses too. Overall not that bad of a class. I got a B.
Ben is smart man, who should NOT be teaching an introduction course. He goes way too in-depth and makes it a lot harder than it should be. Also, he like to go off on tangents that are irrelevant to our course material and in no way help us for the exams.
His test come straight from the ppts. Only problem is you have no earthly idea what he will ask so you end up memorizing hundreds of useless slides.. The lab is worth 400 pts, is very hard and consumes far more time then it should
Dr. Predmore is a wonderful professor. You know what is expected of you on a test. EVERYTHING COMES FROM THE PPTS. Study and learn them MORE than two days before the test and it's easy. LAB: quizzes every week that are very detailed. KEEP UP WITH THE MATERIAL, it will help you in the long run and result in a better grade.
‘Principles of Biology (for non-majors)’ actually counts for majors like Nursing. The professor & TA are AWESOME! There are 3 exams & 1 final based off his PowerPoints (drops the lowest 1), fun & easy in-class activities/assignments & online homework (you need the textbook & Google). Attendance is mandatory (clicker points are part of your grade).
He is a very nice guy who is enthusiastic about everything he teaches. He is very available to help you out outside of class. A&P is a hard course, ESPECIALLY THE LAB. He made it 40% of your total grade. He drops one test, optional final is SUPER EASY. Tests are straight from power points and about 25% of them come from his in class clicker q's
I loved this class, I learned more in this class than any other class I took at usf. That being said this class shouldn't be taken lightly. Plan on studying weekly because you CAN NOT cram the week of the exam, there's just too much information you need to be able to recall in-depth. He's really helpful though in office hours.
I am currently in his physiology course for Fall of 2014. He seems like he is a good professor at first, but then when asked specifics on a questions, he will literally say i dont know. He jumps around the powerpoints and speaks way too fast. I dont undersatnd how he expects us to study if he jumps around so much. Wish their was another professor.
I am also in his general physiology class Fall 2014. For our class he seems to be doing a lot of experimenting. He does not do the traditional lecture; he will ask clicker questions (for a grade) and then briefly explain a few concepts. This may work for the lucky ones who science comes naturally to, but I find that I need more explanations.
Great professor. Very clear, very helpful in office hours. Definitely will explain anything in detail if you ask.
His exam questions are much harder than anything covered in the lecture, clicker questions, or quizzes. He expects undergrads to operate at a grad level. When asked for pointers on how to study better (in addition to reading the entire book and studying for weeks in advance), was told I should be "conceptualizing" beyond the material. Terrible.
His lectures are very interesting and he makes the class very enjoyable. His tests were hard but not impossible. If you take the time to go to lecture, do the hw and study for his tests you will do great in his class. I would definitely take another class with him. TIPS: Try to get as many points in hw and clicker questions (40 % of grade)
Attend class since clicker questions will make it or break it. Tests are not impossible but intense and you NEED to prepare. Have fun with the information and let it sink in during the lectures and you will be good to go.
STOP & READ!!!!!! Before you consider reading all the nice comments about him. I took MCAT out of state. Was NOT understanding & wanted me to take prior to my MCAT exam. Ended up w a medical emergency, missed make up test. Took it upon arrival didn't give me credit for homework I had missed. & took pics w iphone of Dr. notes. Enough said.
Professor Predmore is a nice guy, he will help if you ask and makes the material very interesting. He is big on clickers though. Your clicker points are 20% of your grade so it is imperative that you show up. He offered us extra credit worth 30 points at the end of the semester, we had to make a video demonstrating physiology. make sure you study.
Best professor ever!
Ben Predmore was the best professor I had during Spring 2015. During lectures, he clarifies every concept until everyone in the room understands before he moves on. His tests can be tough, but by attending lectures and studying the material you'll be prepared. He is approachable and makes the lectures extremely interesting. He is very, VERY fair.
Really good teacher, explains everything clearly. Study slides and you'll be fine. Lowest test grade dropped. HW every Saturday night, not hard. Kinda funny. Clicker points for attendance every class and worth a good chunk of your grade, so don't skip. Tests can be tricky. Overall, if you go to class, do the weekly online HW, study slides, its fine
I only studied PowerPoint slides for this class but you never knew what to expect for each test. And you not only have to do good on the tests which were pretty hard but you also had to do great in lab or else you were screwed. Without the E.C I would have gotten a B. Doable but difficult class
There's really no getting around it, Anatomy is a tough class and Predmore is a tough professor. Everything is not straight from the powerpoint slides, it is definitely important to read the textbook. Especially for gaining context to understand what is written on the slides. I found his exams to be very challenging. Study HARD!
HARD TESTS! never know what to expect on test, could be from the book or from his own personal spinoffs he talks about. Lowest test is dropped and there is a 30 pt extra credit project, DO THE PROJECT, it will save your grade. Office hours are 2 hours a week, good luck trying to meet with him outside of those 2 hours. Think before taking, please!
Predmore was decent. You'll be fine if you takes notes from the slides before lecture and add his explanations in during lecture. Tests were tough, but reasonable, especially if you pay attention to clickers. Textbook not required. Four tests, One final. One dropped test.
Hands down, one of the best professors in his department. He can be tough but the tests are not impossible. Study the power points and pay attention to the pictures/graphs. He is great at explaining if you don't understand. It's obvious that he really does care about his students!
Absolutely terrible person. The course material is easy if you've taken biology classes in the past and understand concepts. But he is a failure as a teacher and as a mentor on how to guide students.
Get ready to study for hours on end for this class. Sure you can do the extra credit and all but the tests are stupidly tough. I get it he's trying to prepare students for similarity with the mcat and dat tests but we have to get there first lol. This definitely killed my gpa. He's a cool teacher but the tests are written tough.
Seemed overworked... wish he would go the extra mile for his students but seems too busy taking care of his family which is understandable but tough on some students that need extra attention
I actually enjoyed Dr. Predmore. He wasn't the most helpful, but his tests came straight off the powerpoints and I would refer to the book to clarify a few things. When I went to office hours he really did help, but I felt he was slightly condescending. I feel that he needs to keep his personal life out of his job, but overall a good teacher!
- Great guy! Tried to make everything interesting. - You only need to memorize his PowerPoints to get a good grade on the exams. - 5 exams counting the final; the lowest one is dropped. - Do not need the book or Master A&P. However, the some of questions at the end of the chapters and Master A&P are on the exam.
Ridiculously tough grader! He'll teach you something very basic and will test you on every detail without explaining it in class or it being in the book. Expect to read all his slides and the textbook and barely make it. Definitely wouldn't recommend him!
His class is super hard. His exams are hard. Lab is hard. Everything is extremely hard. Anatomy is hard in general, but his exams are worded similar to an MCAT exam or clinical setting questions. It's definitely hard.
He cancels many classes and then makes you rely on old videos to learn. If you ask him for help on something he tends to be pretty useless and mean about it. He isn't very clear on projects and the wording on his exams can be difficult. He also gives very specific questions on his exam.
Overall not a bad class. Homework and TopHat (attendance is mandatory, FOR GOOD REASON) take up 40% of the grade. He records the class, WATCH THEM and after you watch them WATCH THEM AGAIN. I made the mistake of believing the textbook was the lifeline to this class early on, but I promise it is not. Use the textbook for examples and figures.
Probably the worst professor I've had at USF. The tests are super hard with tricky questions and he isn't helpful at all when telling you how to study for them. He is very unorganized in terms of uploading lecture slides/recordings and often cancels class & office hours. I studied for hours on end for this class and didn't end up with a good grade.
Male, 33, wife, 2 yo daughter, PhD. Attended PSU, UF, and a post-doc at Emory SoM. Knows what it takes to do well in classes/how to study/take exams. Cares about his 350+ students a semester, but also has to juggle a family. If you take my class, and try, I will help you do your best. Step up to the challenge. Yes, I read these... -Dr. Predmore
All of these people are being very harsh. Predmore wants you to understand the material, not just memorize it. He stated this day one. He knows the information, and is very opened to help. Missed class was made up by online lectures, which if you studied helped you perfectly with the exam. Cramming will not help you. Received high A.
Great teacher, spends a lot of time answering student questions. If you go to class and pay attention, you will get at least a B. The material is hard but as long as you keep up and ask questions when you're confused, you will do fine.
Professor Predmore was an excellent professor for the course BSC2093. He provides quality lectures and even post the recordings online for his students to re watch at a later time for further understanding of the topic. This is not an easy class, but if you go to class and take the professors advice you will be fine. I look forward to Anatomy 2.
This class is way harder than it needs to be. Lecture is fine, kinda wish there was more Lecture points cause lab is weighted way too heavily. Lab is 40% of the class so if you aren't good at memorization and regurgitation of info, you'll struggle for even a B.
Dr. Predmore is a good professor. He genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. The lecture portion of the class is okay but the lab portion is insanely difficult. Each lab consists of 2 quizzes and memorizing the manual for the full 3 hours of class. Some of the TAs are awful and really bring down peoples grades.
I have to say I really enjoyed Professor Predmores first go at Animal Science! It was a lot of fun and definitely an interesting experience. The tests were beyond fair, in fact some could say pretty darn easy but it still required some reading over the Powerpoints! TAKE HIS CLASS and HAVE FUN!
A really nice teacher, wants students to do well - a little rude when you meet w him personally (anxiety?) Tests for memorization of specific things he says in class not for comprehension - so if ur a science major trying to get the full picture - don't. Just memorize his slide and lectures. Lectures are funny and engaging - slides are informative
He never address the point straight and clear. He states a question and moves around the answer ! He doesn't know how to explain the material . He doesn't give actually examples ,rather all theory . No I wouldn't take him again.
Dr. Predmore is an engaging, motivated professor who clearly cares about the success of his students. As long as you pay attention, watch extra lecture videos, and study properly, youll likely do well. Really dont get what some people are whining about- the path to a good grade is super-straightforward if youre halfway intelligent and motivated.
Hes nice and funny (in a corny way). I liked that he did panopto recordings. However there are A LOT of drawbacks in taking him for gen physiology. First off he repeats himself A LOT and tends to have duplicate slides that makes him repetitive. Its really easy to fall asleep in his class even if you have had a goodnights rest. Super hard tests :/
Semester started out okay, he provided learning objectives. However these turned out to be pretty vague at times and it seemed like his tests covered stuff that wasn't on it. By mid-semester, he just stopped posting learning objectives, which sucked. He gives NO practice tests or study guides either. He only grades exams and has a 20 pt. EC project
Cancelled class the first 2 weeks and would only notify you an hour in advance. Flipped the class to online lecture then flipped it back. Doesn't tell you what's on the exam, and what is on the exam DOES NOT test knowledge of the material. Lost my exam the last week before finals and gave me a 0 and made me come and find it. 350 words is not enough
Frequently canceled class (last minute as well) to the point where it was frustrating. Tests were fairly difficult and above all nonsensical to the course. His teaching style was all over the place during the semester and I ended up teaching myself all of the material. Would not recommend it was a very irritating semester.
This dude hates class more than you do. Was "sick" so much and liked to cancel maybe like 30 minutes before. The class is dumb because no one cares about it everyone just takes it because they have too. Its not too hard but the tests are annoying because he offers no study guide and doesnt tell you whats gonna be on it really
Dr. Predmore is very clear about what topics to focus on for exams. He often says "This is important and I would expect you to know these steps for an exam." or "This will not be on an exam, but I thought it was important to share this with you." during lecture so you know what to study. He posts recordings of all of his lectures online. Great prof
I have nothing but respect for Dr. Predmore. He was so helpful throughout the whole semester and always answered all my questions to the best he could (god knows I asked a bunch). We had 4 exams, 1 drop. I studied a LOTTT but its doable. People who don't come to class don't get good grades. This class has been so helpful for MCAT prep too.
By far one off my favorite professors at USF. He is very clear about what to know for exams and is knowledgeable on an array of things. I took him for animal science and he made the class enjoyable. I would definitely take him again!
All I did was memorize the powerpoint slides and I scored over a 100% on every exam. He's a busy guy but works hard to make himself available. Not always knowledgable on the material, but I think he got stuck teaching an anatomy class when his expertise is physiology. He makes lectures fun and encourages questions. Extra credit for attendance
I enjoyed taking Ben for A&P 1. His lectures can be a bit dull at times but that's just the course content. He does what he can to make it interesting, and he tries to be funny, sometimes successfully. Exams are straight from the slides. He uploads lectures to Panapto, making on campus attendance semi optional. Overall I'd say he was a good prof.
Dr. Predmore's A&P lectures are very entertaining and engaging. He uses a lot of real world problems and gives many extra credits through mini-project and Kahoots. His exams are also pretty straight-forward and easy, as long as you study. The lab portion though, is definitely tough. There's so many things to memorize, just hope you get a great TA.
I really liked Dr. Predmore. His exams were not difficult at all and you do not need the textbook, just study the lectures and you're set. You get extra credit for just going to class and making a video at the end.
Really good lectures and fair exams. Some people may not like the style of exam where it is less memorization and more application and examples, but I find it easier since I'm better at learning concepts. Exams are based off lectures, but a lot of the questions are based on application of the material. Exam heavy like every bio course.
I honestly wish I had never taken this class. Tests were 100% of the grade just about...... almost failed because of the extremely specific material put on the tests, that didn't exactly line up with the textbook or powerpoints. He talks all class period about a few things, we couldn't even get through a single powerpoints over 2-3 classes worth
General Physiology was 100% exams. 4 in-term exams, one final. Lowest out of the 5 gets dropped. His exams are fair and come straight from lectures. He also posts his lectures on canvas for you to re-watch which is very helpful. The text helps explain concepts into more depth, but not necessary. Extra credit project worth 2% at the end.
lectures were interesting and he records every lecture, it helps to rewatch for things he said that you might have missed the first time. Grading scale is clear w/ plenty of extra credit to boost grade. Tests are straight from the lectures, no reason to not do well as long as you genuinely understand the material and vocabulary and study.
ben is a super nice guy who wants his students to do well. his exams are either right from lecture or basic critical thinking questions very closely related to lecture material. helps to know vocabulary and be able to apply it. not a hard class if you any effort in at all. gives extra credit and extra questions on exam to help grade
DO NOT TAKE ONLINE!!!! Dr. Predmore is not helpful when you have a question and comes off as rude. He has messed up the key for each exam we have taken but only fixes some mistakes. Five exams and he drops the lowest but the material is not as specific as exams. If you plan to pass you have to research and teach yourself from other resources.
Dr Predmore is a great Professor. Took him online this summer during Covid for PCB 3712. He is very test heavy. Like 100% of the grade is tests. He offers a 20 pt ec also. 4 tests and a final. Lowest scoring is dropped. However, if you are looking to learn a lot and do well on the MCAT, then take him. His lectures were very informative and helpful.
There aren't many professor options at USF, but he is truly a great teacher! He is very honest and his exams are straightforward and FAIR. He does use proctorio but because of the online format, he avoids using images and calculations in the lecture exams. 5 lecture exams ( 1 dropped) and 2 lab exams. The lab is a bit more challenging. JUST STUDY!
The exam questions are specific and direct. 5 lecture exams and 2 lab exams. He drops a lecture exam. The grading criteria is clear. Lectures are recorded and uploaded to canvas. Lab exams are only hard because there are not as many resources are there are for the lecture. Lots of memorization.
Lectures are good, recorded, and uploaded to the canvas covers all material for the exam. I did however find that the lab portion lacked the same empathy and flexibility that Dr Predmore had for the lecture exams. I also felt that I had to teach myself the lab material because of the lack/limited resources, which was most challenging.
Dr. Predmore is the best teacher for anatomy, he knows so much about every topic and is willing to explain them in several different ways. His lectures contain everything you need to know but I would also recommend reading the textbook for extra information because the exams tend to be more detailed than his lectures. He gives extra credit too!!
Class out of 1000 points, 900 points are exams. 5 exams, one dropped. Exams are very specific. Personally, Organic Chemistry is better than this. Predmore says he was going to host review sessions prior to exams, but ghosted me when I emailed him about it. Always multiple mistakes in the exams, especially spelling.
Lectures are posted and cut off, leaving some topics unexplained. The slides given do not match the lectures. No study material given before exams (which is 90% of your grade), you are just expected to know it all. Does not reply to emails, honestly I do not even need to go on, DO NOT TAKE this class with Predmore. He is the worst.
He is a good professor with a lenient grading policy. His lectures were resourceful. He provides extra credit and his exams are very straightforward. Memorizing his powerpoints well will definitely help you to pass this course.
He gives extra credit project worth 20 points to your grade. Exams are out of 225 and gives 5 extra questions in case he makes mistakes. Study from the beginning, he drops the lowest exam score, whether it be any of the 4 in class or final. Final can also replace your lowest exam. Packback is 100/1000 of your grade, super easy discussions basically
Not the best professor or lecturer. Makes his exams on material that he has not gone over in class and if he makes a mistake on an exam he doesnt award points back. Would not recommend.
Dr. Predmore provides all the information you need to pass the exams, but his exams revolve more around the application of the material than memorization. I didn't really attend lectures and focused on the learning objectives and I did just fine. He uses TopHat as homework and it's easy, just time-consuming, and a little inconvenient. Not terrible.
really cool and easy class! professor is very friendly and easy to talk to
This class has a lot of information, I wouldn't say it was hard to grasp though. There are 4 exams and a final, the lowest exam gets dropped. He gives quite a bit of extra credit and the exam questions correlate to the lecture slides if he didn't get to a subject it wouldn't be on the exam. He does use packback which is a little tedious but easy.
If you want to take physiology at USF I recommend this teacher. I took him online so take that into account. His lectures were pretty decent, and you don't need to necessarily get the book to get an A. I studied his lecture recordings in order to do good. He also fixed exam scores and gave ec to help out. He is really nice and seems to respond.
His extremely flexible class format is well suited for excelling. He responds in a timely manner and is very understanding. A dropped test, lots of EC, and a lot of cushioning. I failed 2 lab exams (don't blow them off) but made it up by doing super well on lecture tests. Honestly such a great course and very accommodating, not stressful w/ effort.
Dr. Predmore is a great lecturer, and has plenty of dad jokes for just about every subject. He grades on a combination of test and discussion post, discussion post are an easy 100 if completed, test are best studied for by going through the slides. Super nice and will work with you for special situations
Predmore is very kind, lectures/shows documentaries during the week, and attendance optional. The only HW was Packback discussion(1 post, 2 replies) but he dropped it halfway through the semester and gave full credit. Very nice guy and will answer questions(but not emails). 3 midterm exams and 1 optional final, all with bonus questions, very good!
