Make sure you come to every class and take good notes. Very helpful if you have a question. The weekly quizzes were easy IF you came to class and paid attention. If you do the work and put in effort you'll get a good grade. Highly recommended!
He is the most helpful teacher that I ever met. If u want to get an A for this class, show your passion and keep asking him what you need to, then he will help you as much as he can. I Highly recommend him for HUM 111 and 112. Good luck!
I've been at CSCC since Autumn '10 and Dr. Pugno has been one of the best and most helpful professors I have had yet. If you're looking for an easy A, look elsewhere. Dr. Pugno encourages class participation to the point where if you don't participate, you almost feel left out. I hated anything historical until this class, so I highly recommend him
He is by far one of my favorite teachers at Columbus State I would suggest him to anyone. He is fun and explains things in a way that is easy to understand. His stories are so funny and so is he! Loved this class and plan on taking other classes he teaches! Great Teacher!
Dr. P is solid. Excellent communicator. Witty, very knowlegdeable and passionate about how mankind has evolved to where we find ourselves today. I highly recommend Dr. Pugno.
Dr. P is the man! I highly recommend him. He makes History fun. As long as you take good notes you will do well on the quizes. He is very funny and responds to emails very quickly. Amazing professor!
I'm not even a history person ,but his class was interesting. He really is help full for a student's success.HE is one of the best instructors that i had.
Best history class ever (and I hate history). He does a great job at keeping everyone interested in class. Gives you plenty of extra credit opportunities. Explains writing assignments very clearly. I never opened my textbook except to use for reference for a research paper and got an A. Go to class, pay attention and you'll do well.
I definitely think I lucked out with Prof Pugno as my humanities instructor. He knows his material and is very enthusiastic about the subject at hand. He's very down to earth but definitely not a push over. While his quizzes are easy if you attend class, the short essays he assigns take a bit of thought. I highly recommend him!
Dr. P is the best. His lectures are very well designed and interesting. He tells you at the beginning of the quarter that if you attend class you will do well. Attendance is part of the grade, the quizzes are straightforward, writing assignments are reasonable and going to class an enjoyable, interactive experience. Will be taking 112 with him!
He is noisy and gives too many meaningless quizzes! Attendance is required! He is also biased on many historical issues. What is more, the grades he gives on QUIZZES are FINAL!!!
Best teacher ever!! Makes everything fun and easy to learn. Very interesting class
Absolutely a wonderful experience. I enjoyed the class even more when I found out he doesn't put up slackers. Read the material, do your attendance and your papers and you will do really well in this class. I highly recommend it.
HE MADE EACH CLASS REALLY INTERESTING AND I LOVED HOW HE MADE HISTORY!! FUN TO LEARN!!
he is the funniest teacher i have ever had. also he makes history fun and you want to pay attention.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this professor to anyone. I had his 8am class this semester. Having trouble waking up that early, I still showed up to class even though I showed up late almost all semester, he made class that interesting. But Make sure you read your material and cite you papers! If you do that you will pass.
A generally interesting, modern professor. He explains the history in a contemporary voice that makes it easier to digest. The quizzes, which I don't think are his alone, are a bit challenging, and required reading of the textbook. His assignments weren't too difficult, but other students need far more clarity and emphasis on writing assignments.
I took both CLAS 1222 and HIST 1111 with Prof. Pugno. I can say that he is my favorite Professor! His lectures are always entertaining, he's very energetic and modern. He also throws in random facts to make it all the more interesting. He's very passionate about the subjects and it's easy to really like what you learn in his classes!! :)
I took this class online. Dr. Pugno was very helpful. I have enjoyed the clarity and the organization of the class. It is a big thing when you take on-line classes. It was very clear what is needed to be done. Very happy with his class.
Overall great instructor. I highly recommend him. If your looking to understand the European history just take his class. Before I take this class I had no knowledge about Europe. We had a substitute for 2 classes and he wasn't good. So comparing prof pugno to the other one, pugno is way better. However he is so strict about citations. I lost many points because I didn't know how to cite. Still got B.
Dr. P is unconventional and fun! The class was interesting (and I had very little interest in European history prior to taking his class). The weekly quizzes are very challenging, and I had to read my textbook faithfully to pass them. There are no midterms, which I loved, and the assigned papers are not difficult. Just cite everything! Great class!
Very enthusiastic professor with great stories! Dr. P is a great professor and his lectures are interesting even for someone who dislikes history, like me. His quizzes were difficult if you didn't read the textbook, but his papers and the final was quite easy. I definitely recommend Dr. P!
Dr. Pugno is the most dedicated professor I have had in my time here. He makes the material interesting, and will often provide a level of detail that the textbook could not achieve. Dr. Pugno expects you to meet him halfway during the lecture. Provide your opinions and be involved in the class. Dr. Pugno goes the extra mile for his students.
Had him spring of 13 and he was my favorite professor by far! The material is interesting and if you show up and pay attention, you're golden! His mythology class has got me considering a major change with a mythology focus!
This man is one of the best of cscc. His class format requires you to be in class everyday. You get ~10 points for showing up if you completed the required short reading with the accompanied replies. If you have not written an essay for this man, CITE, CITE, AND CITE SOME MORE! He takes that very seriouly. His beard is also beautiful. -in CLAS1225
Very good professor, very passionate about teaching and his expectations of students are very reasonable.
Dr. Pugno is an amazing instructor. Each lecture that he gives is vibrant and very interesting. He requires students to write papers, so please make sure everything is cited! Dr. Pugno breaks everything down where you can understand it. I highly recommend anyone who needs to take a history/humanities course to sign up for his class!
Dr. Pugno is probably my favorite professor of all time. Hes a really cool guy and an even a better teacher. He makes classes very interesting with jokes and sweet stories. There is weekly work required and a lot of reading but as long as you keep up, the class goes very smoothly.
Dr. P was overall a really good professor. He is a stickler on citations but besides that, he is pretty easy going as long as the class is interacting and showing that they read the homework. Weekly quizzes are very helpful!
Dr. Pungo is one of my favorite professor I have had. He is a great story teller which makes learning the material easy.
Great Prof. Take this class with him. You will not regret it!!! very informative, not too difficult just stay awake and just listen!
Amazing professor! Weekly quizzes are easy since he gives you all the questions before hand and you can retake until you get desired grade. It's nice to be able to enjoy the lecture without having to stress and scribble EVERYTHING down because it "might" be on the test. Papers were no problem as long as you can do MLA citations you will be fine!
Interesting teacher, you can tell he's passionate about history. This would be a great class for someone who's interested in history, but the entire class is lecture, and you have a paper due every other week. Not my favorite class, but he's still an amazing professor, and he's pretty funny. (:
He is an amazing teacher! I already signed up to take his History 1111 class next semester. He makes the material really interesting, and makes sure that you understand it. He has one paper that is super hard and there is A LOT of reading in this class, but it's worth it. He likes students that speak up in class, so always have something to say.
Dr. P is the only history teacher I have ever had where I actually understand what is happening and enjoy going to class. He tells his lectures like stories in an interesting and engaging way. I have a short attention span and I never lost focus in this class. He is great and super down to earth. Online quizzes once a week. No tests except final
He made something that could be so boring SO INTERESTING
One of the best teachers I have ever had. Engages with students very well and makes himself very approachable, eager to help students. Lectures are a bit long but he makes them interesting by adding pictures and discussing them with humor. This semester there were online quizzes, 3 papers and just one final test. so participation matters greatly.
I enjoyed having him as a professor and he was very nice and funny. He made the lectures easy to listen to and wasn't boring. He assigns quizzes every few weeks and tests are not until the end of the semester. The work you have to put into the class is of course a lot (it's college). I will definitely take another class with him again.
Dr. Pugno is an exceptional professor! He loves teaching and has great lectures. Be ready to read as there is much to read in this course. When you participate in class and might not know the correct answer, he is awesome in redirecting your thoughts. He makes you think and in turn you learn. Very enjoyable class. Highly recommend!!
I took European History to 1848 with this guy. I was already in love with history, but wanted the classroom experience because taking history online sucks. He really made it come alive to me. If you are going to take a history course, research the profs and pray you get Pugno. Ben, if you're reading this, THANK YOU FOR THE AMAZING SEMESTER.
Dr. Pugno is terrific! The class, European History since 1648, required no midterms only a final, weekly quizzes (online), 3 papers and a decent amount of reading every week. Pugno made the class, I previously dreadedfeared, not only bearable, but very funny and enjoyable. I learned A LOT throughout the semester. His random facts are the best.
Literally one of the best teachers I have ever had. I am not a history person, so this class was a blessing. He made the lectures super enjoyable and even funny. Taking notes is essential and do not be afraid to ask questions. I really learned a lot and I am super glad I signed up for his class, History 1112. Thanks for the great semester!
Dr. Pugno was a great professor. His lectures were never dull. He had a great sense of humor. He respected everyone and their opinions. He made sure that we understood the chapter's and answered every question that was asked. His grading was above fair. I really enjoyed his class and hope to be able to have him in future classes.
Great classes centered around reading out of class and than discussing material in class. Has many unique views on historical events
Absolutely loved him as a professor! Was one of of the classes you need to take more time for, Great at explaining what is going on in the stories and relating them to something more understandable, A very funny guy. Expect a lot of reading and a hard grade on your first paper. After the first paper the rest are easier.
Very amazing class and teacher. Learned a lot and I'm excited to take his world civ class. Lots of reading but it's not so bad. He spaces the readings out reasonably. Definitely recommend.
Wonderful professor and class! Lots of interesting writing assignments based on the readings, ranging from small responses to longer essay papers. He also gave us lots of information to study for the final! He is funny, helpful, and the lectures were very enjoyable. I definitely recommend him!
Awesome professor! The lectures were really interesting as were the readings themselves, and the papers were fun to write. We were given lots of information about the final beforehand, and he is very helpful with papers and such! Such a cool class. I totally recommend him!
Dr Pugno is the bomb. He is a great professor. You can tell that he truly loves what he is teaching. Lectures are very good. There are weekly reading responses. But if you read the book you'll be able to answer them.
He is a very hard grader which makes the papers, responses, and final hard.
Mr. Pugno's class was not very easy and definitely had LOTS of reading, but he was very friendly and all the readings helped me to understand the time periods we were learning about more clearly. Also, his lectures are very fun and interesting, he tells you a lot of weird facts and stories. Just make sure you pay attention!
Took Dr. P's Mythology class and had an absolute wonderful time! It works more like an English class in the sense that you will be reading a lot of Greek/Roman literature and answering questions just about every week. Tip: The more comprehensive you are in your answers, the closer you'll be to getting a "10" on each paper. MORE GIFTS!
Dr Pugno is Amazing. He truly inspires you not just in the history class but in your future as well. Make sure you read the chapters to grasp the information. If you show up for class then the final exam is pretty self-explanatory. If you are struggling with the papers then meet with him and he will help. You will definitely need the textbooks.
There were many more tags i could have selected. But, he takes what could be a very boring subject, and makes it fun. And he helps to understand what you've read. Many times I came to class thinking one thing and left thinking something else. So that made it fun, because it made me think. I definitely recommend him as a professor.
If you get the chance to take him for history or classical mythology, do it. He made interested in a subject that I don't care about. He's funny and keeps you interested.
He's very passionate about his subject matter. Lectures are very easy to listen to and may actually be entertaining at times. Highly recommended.
Dr. Pugno is one of the best professors at Columbus State. He is hilarious and brilliant and very thorough in his lectures. He gives a fair workload which helps to learn subjects easier and comprehend them. Participate during lectures, read the materials, do the homework--you'll pass with flying colors. Take his class just for the experience.
Dr. Pugno is a great professor! He's funny while he's lecturing, which keeps the class entertaining. He's just a nice person, too! He does grade harder than some other professors, so don't expect a perfect score on a paper.
Dr. Pugno is truly a passionate instructor who makes whatever he teaches fun and interesting. He requires a lot of reading and weekly review questions, a couple papers, and a final exam. He is super realistic in terms of expectations, and loves in depth discussion. Be sure to participate and make the most out of his class, you won't regret it!
He is very hard grader for papers but the final is easy.
An amazing teacher, he teaches history very energetically and really tries to make lectures interesting. Yes there is a lot of work but he is very nice about late turn-ins and the final was easy. Really, really good professor.
Probably the best teacher I've ever had. He's a very charismatic and funny guy, and his lectures are very laid back. His encouragement of group discussions make the class a lot more fun than any history I've taken. Honestly, I wish all of my teachers were as excited about their classes as he is.
The first day of class he says that he wont have any tests, except the Final. He believes in letting papers show how much you know about the material. For the papers, meet with the SI to ensure that you get the Citations correct, but other than that if you try to write a good paper than you will receive a good grade. Lectures are informative & fun.
Funny guy but he is also there to do his job. He is very patient as well.
Easily a favorite teacher of mine. His homework is usually response question(s) to a chapter we read. While you can skip his lectures (essays rely more heavily on the reading), it's best to attend them, both for fun and for the sake of your understanding. Clearly enjoys his classes and wants you to as well.
Great teacher and explained everything very well. A lot of reading and writing. Attendance isnt strict, this is nice since I work a lot.
He was a nice professor. (By nice, I mean both kind and cool). He was good at presenting his lectures and getting me to think about how Greek/Roman myths relate to modern Western culture and their historical basis. Unlike some humanities professors, he wasnt all pretentious, smug, and arrogant. He actually did have a sense of humor!
Dr. Pugno is by far the best teacher Ive ever had. Hes funny and makes class worth going to. Not a ton of homework given out and has no quizzes or tests besides from the midterm and final. If you have to take any history classes I recommend taking them with Dr. Pugno 110%
Dr. Pugno is a great professor! He has a sense of humor while teaching History 1111 at the same time gives extra credit which helps a lot with your grade if you're failing. He is also has office hours where you could meet him and talk about class work or stuff you don't understand and he will clearly explain it to you and he's a fair grader!
The class is exciting, and at the end of the semester, we learn a lot. He is very cooperative and always help students with their Q/A. But he is strict about his assignments and projects.
Great Class. No tests but lots of reading. He makes it a good time because he is smart, funny and HOT!
You gain when you attend his class. He teaches hard topics with ease. You need to read weekly. And the most important, he listens to students' views.
Dr. Pugno is one of the best professors I have had the pleasure of taking a class with. He focuses on more critical thinking aspects rather than the traditional methods of teaching. He is very interactive, receptive and considerate with understanding the course material and how to best approach assignments.
Dr. Pugno was awesome! Great human, clear expectations. He brought humor to our lectures which made it easier to listen to that much history at one time. He definitely knows what hes talking about, and the extent of his knowledge is impressive. I hope to get him again in my next history course when he returns. Thank you Dr. P!
The way he teaches makes it interesting, he gave extra credit at the end to redeem yourself. He is very knowledgeable about History of Medicine. I really liked this class and I would take this professor again.
His class was GREAT. You definitely need to attend the lecture and participate but his class was very organized. You'd read a chapter of the textbook and do one assignment each week. No quizzes or tests. Take home final!!
Class was great. he was so nice. You just read a chapter and write a paragraph every week. Two big essays. No tests, no quizzes. Take home final. 10/10
Good teacher during lectures but tough grader. I'm typically a straight-A English student but could barely get a 10/10 in his weekly essays. Confusing feedback too. Other than that, he made lectures interesting and explained things well. He also answered any questions his students had and replied to emails quickly.
Loved his lectures. He was funny and knew a lot! Lots of reading but interesting and he is tough with citations. Best history teacher I've had. You could ask him anything.
I'm not even in his class right now, I loved him so much I came back to review. He's a wonderful human! He gives great feedback, teaches with humor, and is very accessible if you need extra help. Undoubtedly my favorite professor I've ever had. His courses require a lot of reading, but it's not too bad. Discussions are like talking with a friend!
He actually cares about us and has really informative lectures. Read the chapter each week itll make your life easier. The weekly homework isnt hard as long as you show that you read. Hes very understanding and will give you an extension if you really need it. If history is a subject you usually struggle with youll be fine in this class.
Dr. Pugno is amazing. His class includes papers and only papers because he doesn't like giving tests. You have a short "paper" due weekly, and the exams are papers as well. He answers any questions in email, and will even proofread your papers if you need. You need the book. I 100% would take his class again!!
My guy Pugno is so funny. He interacts with the class and keeps you engaged. I actually took Hist. of Western Medicine with him; a class he made and provided a textbook for. It was a very interesting class and would recommend. You can tell he enjoys what he does because the students do too. Top 5 I've had.
Extremely knowledgeable yet still super relatable and approachable. His combined passion for history and teaching keeps you engaged to think critically and want to learn more. Took 2 classes with him and would take more.
Dr. P was a really good teacher! His lectures were very engaging. Had lots of side commentary and made sure to encourage the participation of his students. Had a weekly structure: 30 pages of reading + argument response, 2-3 primary source readings (understand them enough to show you read them!). Couple papers, a project and a final too easy class!
Super cool guy! He gave clear lectures but he was never boring. There was no test besides the final exam but there were two papers and a presentation but nothing to worry about. Highly recommend!
Didn't like his teaching style. there are no quizzes or tests until the final which is great because it was an easy A but I learned nothing. Also, a lot of papers to write and the readings weren't too hard just very boring.
Dr. Pugno is one of the best professors I've ever had. His lectures are very engaging. He has a great sense of humor, responds to emails quickly, and is willing to check over your work if you need help. You will get a good grade if you listen to his expectations and directions. I would definitely take one of his classes in the future!
Dr. Pugno is a fantastic professor! His lectures are fascinating and engaging. You can tell he is very passionate about history and cares about his students. You will do fine in this class if you work hard and ask questions if needed. This is one of my favorite history classes I have taken!
Dr. Pugno is incredibly knowledgeable and his lectures were always interesting. Lots of reading and writing, and some of the source material can be a little tough to get through, but the class was a lot of fun to take. Textbook was written by Pugno and a colleague, the course material is definitely his special interest.
LOVED him, he is very lecture heavy and has weekly papers but he doesn't do any tests or quizzes throughout the semester, the final was easy if you show up and participate. He also offers extra credit.
Best history class I've ever taken. Dr. Pugno made the class fun and inspiring. He gives a unit response every week. The class can be hard at times, but if you put the effort you'll get an A. Participation has a huge impact on your grade. There were two analysis papers, an exhibit project, and a final.
We're often technically off topic but still discussing related ideas. Plenty of laughs. He'll end up behind schedule and never catch up, but it's because we're all busy talking about something cool he just brought up. If you talk in class when you're there he'll let you skip. Papers need to be in hard format, nothing online. I'd take him again.
The professor taught the class very well. His ability to change and adapt the course was very good. While his class was lecture heavy, students were encouraged to participate. The assignments were easy, but informative, and I learned a lot.
all the reviews on here are very true amazing teacher only downside to him is he is a very tough grader I had to make sure everything on my paper was correct he will take of points for misspelled words even though this isn't a English class I had to start using spell check because those points add up even if it like 3 to 4 points
Dr. Pugno is an INCREDIBLE professor!! His passion for ancient history is infectious, making even the most complex concepts (religion, politics, philosophy, etc.) easily comprehensible regardless of your prior knowledge of history. His lectures are wildly entertaining and easy to follow.
Dr. Pugno is a refreshing, down to Earth professor that will amaze you with his passion for this subject (History). He's funny, fun to listen to, and overall cares about how well you do. I always looked forward to coming to his class. He made a subject that I struggled to hone in on in the past to a subject that I sat down and tuned into with ease.
I've taken two classes from Pugno and he's the best I've had so far. He gives great information in the lectures, and encourages talking in the classroom (as in he gives points for it). He has extra credit available at the end of the semesters, grades consistently, and requires an average amount of work. You'll never feel drowned by his classes.
Super nice, attendance isent mandatory, not too much work, isent boring.
Professor Pugno is engaging and passionate. The class has weekly assignments, but no tests - just a final project. Attendance is mandatory, but the material is interesting. Using resources like Unstuck study helped me stay on top of the workload.
