Way too much reading, average week is 120 pages followed by a 25 question quiz every two weeks (academic bulimia) Don’t bother asking questions. you won’t get a clear answer, then he won’t shut up. he's obsessed with pagans and his side stories are embellished to make himself feel important
This guy is a complete and pompous idiot. He sits there degrading people from the community college and tells you straight out that you are stupid. He will only talk about random stories that happened in his life that are both uninteresting and unuseful. My advice...drop his class as soon as you possibly can and get out now.
Prof. Wil is an awesome instructor. He assigns readings that directly relate to what we're SUPPOSE to be learning. It may seem overwhelming at first, but obviously it's for our best interest so that we CAN LEARN! His tests are exactly what you should expect - as long as you take notes in class and have done YOUR PART! Follow the syllabus people
It's a shame, Prof. Wil could be a really great teacher if he would stop criticizing community college students so much. All in all, good class, interesting topics, and easy if you read the assignments and follow the syllabus. There is really large amt of reading however and yes, alot of neopagan stories.
REALLY INTERESTING LECTURES AND DISCUSSIONS. EXPECT A LOT OF READING AND CLASS PARTICIPATION. YOU WILL HAVE TO WORK FOR AN 'A' GRADE. IF YOU ARE REALLY INTERESTED IN ANTHROPOLOGY THIS IS THE PERFECT CLASS FOR YOU.
Not only was he a great guy, but he was a great teacher. He may have told a lot of stories, but they where all apliccable to the subject at hand, and only worked to spark my interest in a subject I would not, prior to taking this class, have given a second look. Be ready to read, other than that, it was awesome.
You can really learn a lot from this guy although he talks a little to much and laughs at he's own jokes, lot's of reading and sometimes he's class seems that it has no end but besides that he's a good professor (just have patiance)
fun to learn about other cultures and enjoy his innovative teaching
He is the perfect representation of an IndianaJones Anthro prof. He is well versed in his subject & made the material living because of his personal experiences and writing--Loved that he could write Hyroglitics (Egyptian) andabout his upcoming book onfunerals and neopagans--loved the class and would recommend to othrs
Really enthusiastic and knowledgable about anthropology. It's really nice to have a teacher, who's really into what he is teaching.
Professor Wil made this class interesting. You can follow his lectures easily. His teaching style is upbeat so you never loose interest. His materials and lectures are clear. He is firm but fair.
HOLY COW!!!! this guy wont stop talking about stupid life experiences. LOTS OF READING If your a non-anthro major DONT TAKE THIS GUY....
Professor Will is one of the more knowledgeable teachers at CCSN and although his class was very demanding and i do not care for anthropology, i found it somewhat interesting. I would still take the class since a lot of writing was required and i do not like tests.
This was my first class ever and I got an A. it was a summer school class. Just read the material on the syllabus and you will get a C. He gives a lot of extra credit. On the midterm and final even if you say something interesting or smart about the subject he would give you a C-.He requested a chili pepper. So Prof. Wil here is your chili pepper.
He's nice, funny sometimes, and talks so fast. I took his class over the summer and he gave us two take home exams (due a week after). I had a hard time with those exams but as long as you go to his class, take notes, & do your best to answer the questions, YOU WILL PASS. He is a fair grader. Take him!
Wilreker has a great sense of humor which most people didn't understand because it was beyond their comprehension level. I swear I heard crickets in his class, not because it was boring, but because students were too vacant to engage in the interesting discussions. Heavy readings, but he is very fair when it comes to his grading.
Professor Wil is a pretty interesting guy, he tells a lot of stories and is an enjoyable teacher. His lectures are very easy to understand so there's no real confusion when it comes to tests and things like that unless you weren't there for most of the lectures. A lot of reading though, fun and interesting class and good to take with a friend.
Professor Wil is a good teacher. I am usually not an A student, but managed to pull it off in his class. You should take his class, if you are looking for a easy grade, and he gives extra credit, and will pass, you with a C you show up to class, and at least try the work.
This class requires a lot of reading outside of class. Be prepared to listen to Prof. Wils corney jokes that often turn into funny life expierences The class as a whole was an awesome class Attendance is key and if you do all of the work you wont fail The mid-term and final are extremely hard and drawn out 8 essay questions with cites over a week.
He is a good professor and really knows what he's talking about. There is a lot of outside reading and it's really stupid to procrastinate that reading. If you follow his schedule and read the assignments, the mid-term and final exams are easier to complete. They aren't hard.
Attend every class, all lectures are important. Prof Wil is a funny guy. Be prepared for group discussions. Midterm and final are hard so make sure you do all the readings. It's an easy A if you take great notes and turn in all assignments!
good lectures killer reading assignments, I mean hell.
He is very nice and very! the most important thing is his class is very easy! you will feel difficult to fail his class```
I was pleased with the way he handled this class that I signed up for Into to World Archaeology because he was going to teach the class. He did an excellent job!!!
Awesome class! Highly urge student to enroll in Prof. Wil's class
Professor Will is awesome. Very clear in his discussions and posts discussion material on WEBCT. Definitely an easy A if you attend every class.
I enjoyed this class very much. I recommend this class as an anth 101 course. His tests are hard but he is very helpful with class comments.
Professor Wil is a great teacher. He understands that most people are only taking his course as a req. for our core ed- so it's pretty simple to get a "C." (You'd actually have to put in work for an "A.") He's very knowledgeable and has much experience- not just teaching based on what he's read. = )
OMG!!!! This Professor was awful...All he talk about is what he did in life experiences...He actually asked to class to rate him good so students will enroll into his class...Highly not recommended...A lot of the rating for him are false, they rated him good as he asked...Do Not, I Repeat, Do Not Take this professor if you are not a Anthro Major!!!
he was great!! take his class. its easy if you read the book. the midterm and final arent as hard as he makes them seem. hes super funny and made class fun and interesting.
Boring man who loves to hear himself talk. Constantly goes on and on about his life experiences, which are also incredibly boring, and tells jokes that aren't funny. A lot. The thing that bothered me was the lack of student involvement and he hardly assigned any assignments. good class to take if you enjoy being bored out of your wits.
He assigns ALOT of reading, Everyday go to class and sit and listen to his lectures. very borring, almost, ALL the time there isnt a powerpoint and he doesnt use the board, just stands and lectures. At the end there is a choice between 2 7-10pg papers or 16-20. This class takes ALOT of time which is pointless unless your an anthro major, seriously.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! His class will make you hate life. You have been warned.
I've taken five classes with Prof. Wil. obviously if he wasn't a good professor, I wouldn't have taken so many of his classes.
Great teacher, great class! He's so funny. Only lazy people hate Prof. Wil! Don't blame him because YOU chose not to read or do the work. Always avaliable and willing to help (even via text message.) Attendance matters..occassional pop quiz. Very open and honest.
PRof Will is AWESOME all u have to do is go by the syllabus and take god notes which he post up his slideshows he uses on angel. Occasional pop quiz but u kno wats it on the readings assigned just do the readings and ur set hes real cool about grades 2 I LOVD IT
Prof. Wil's 201 class, like all his classes, is NOT easy. They are however, extremely rewarding, useful and fair for anth majors. If you want to learn and you take responsibility for your own education, his classes are for you. Very challenging courses that require personal effort, but teach essential skills necessary for majors to succeed.
Prof. Wil was great his Exams are a little intense but he gives you a week to do them. you dont even have to do the reading so long as you have some time to devote to the exams, the syllabus at hand and know how to use an index. and prit out the silde shows and take notes on them!! this class is idiot proof! you just have to showup and pay attention
Professor Wil, in my opinion, and i'm sure the opinion of others, is a great professor. He's extremely intelligent, and very easy going. He's not intimidating, but rather, he's very helpful and conducts lectures with ease. He's very easy to understand. I would highly recommend him for anyone wanting to take anthropology 101 or any of his other clas
he is the BEST! very fun and completely smart....take him...seriously he is the best!
He's a great teacher! May be difficult to understand concepts at times, but he would gladly go over it again if needed. Essays were not too difficult, especially if you pay attention to the lecture and take notes on the slideshow. Definitely recommend him to anyone even if youre not interested in the subject and just need the credit!
Great professor. Very knowledgeable. He likes to tell stories and jokes related (or not) to anthropology. Lots of reading and three easy-essay tests. Attendance is a must for the class. Easy to pass the class, but if you want an 'A', you have to work for it.
Great teacher!! Keeps it fun and interesting with weird and sometimes hilarious stories.
Great teacher, attendance is a big part of your grade, the exams are take home essays (which is nice!)but there is a lot of reading and random pop quizzes. Overall I would recommend this class to anyone
I have had Prof. Wil for both Anth 105 and 201. He is a great teacher who loves what he teaches, which is very useful if you are a major and are trying to figure out what to do with your life! He will meet with you outside of class if necessary, and always attempts to keep the class on track and will go over concepts if need be.
Prof. Wil gives a great class! A+! I am considering majoring and maybe a career in it. His class is challenging in a great way, lots of reading, and hard tests, but well worth it because the knowledge you take from it all has practical application to your life. I would love to take all my Anth classes from him!Superb professor!
What a great professor! I have always been interested in anthropology. Professor Wil has hit home the importance of Anthropology in todays world. I am impressed with his passion, knowledge, people skills, student skills and friendliness. THANK YOU PROF. WIL!
Awesome
Professor Wil is extremely intelligent and always keeps class interesting. He's very knowledgeable about his subject and encourages questions. I recommend him to everyone, he is one of the best professors at CSN.
I've been in the Nevada school system for my entire life- my mother is even a teacher. So with that knowledge, I wish to impart the notion that Prof. Wil is one of the best teachers I have ever encountered. He makes class fun, even if the reading is a little intense and pedantic at times. He wants everyone to see the joy in anthropology!
You could ask this man anything and he would know the answer... :) :) :)
Professor Will is an AWESOME teacher. He makes the class interesting! If you go to every class and pay attention you'll do fine. There are five pop quizzes with 5 questions, and there are three online essay question tests. If you take your time with the test you'll definetly get a good grade. All in all GREAT teacher I recommend him 100%!!
This guy is great. The class itself is a little involved, you definitely have to pay attention, but the professor is such a likeable & goofy kind of guy that it isn't a problem. I highly recommend taking his class, and plan on taking more of his classes myself in the future.
DONT take this class, is the most boring class, this is like really boring... take a billion notes, READ ALOT. and essay test... dont take unless u hav 2
professor very helpful. has some interesting stories to go along with the lessons. material is very clear. I would recommend this class to anyone.
Professor Wil's class was extremely informative. I took the summer term so everything was crammed into 4 weeks.Included rigorous reading and studying. Overall very informative and you learn alot..so it was good.
I was taking this class just to fulfill prereq's for a program. Now I am considering a double major. The class was only challenging because there is a lot of reading required. Quiz questions and discussions are easy for those who can think critically. One of the most interesting classes I've ever taken.
People who don't find this class interesting, are just coasting. He's helpful if you are present, so attendance is mandatory if you want to show people you can succeed. He asks every 2 minutes, "Do you understand/ am I making myself clear." If you don't respond, that's your fault for not welcoming his invite to help. Not a fan of attendance policy.
The class is interesting. I learned a lot of cool things & he's great at teaching the subj. but I hate all the reading! And i HATE that the final has to be a series of essays available online AFTER the last class. I wanna be DONE when the class is over! I dont wanna go home and spend 3 more days on the final!
Excellent teacher, hes very intelligent and passionate about teaching. The reading can be tough during summer session and his tests arent as hard as he claims. I would strongly recommend his class.
Prof Wilreker has been one of the best professors I've ever encountered. The reading is especially heavy during summer term, but he's very helpful and will explain. Honestly, I did very little reading and am passing the class with a C so if you read, there is no excuse to not pass this class. I am looking to take his other classes in the future.
Far too much work for a 101 class, and this is coming from a university student who attended the class for a fill-in credit. If you read all the assigned material for every night expect 2-3hours of your time to be dedicated to it. Other than that, passionate about the field and extremely knowledgeable. The midterm and finals are very, VERY long.
I think that the teacher was great he really knew what he was talking about and he only requested for you to at least come to class and try ;thats not asking for that much. The reading was pretty lengthy but beside that If I had to take his class in High school for 9 mths I dont think that I wouldnt mind , he's laid back and keeps it real.
One of the best lecture classes I have had. He makes it interesting but challenging and adds in some cheesy jokes (every once in a while)to top it all off. Midterm and Finals are tough but come straight from an assigned reading and his lectures. Great teacher and I recommend him to anyone especially if Anthro is your major!!
Wilreker definitely means well, but his lectures are sprinkled with a little more cheesy humor and useless tangents than he has time for. Do the readings to score well on his intermittent pop quizzes and discussions and you'll be fine.
This is the worst class I have ever attended. Wilreker will put out tons of material and test you on things he didn't cover. I've attended every class and have every note. He is, for every intent and purpose, the professor to avoid. You have been warned.
he talks a lot and makes corny jokes but its alright. He makes the midterm and final sound dreadful but I got a B and an A. You will read a lot but its ineteresting and it helps besides he doesnt give assignments just readings so do them. Good class overall
I wouldn't recomend Prof. Wil to just anybody. If you like Anthropology then you might really enjoy it. He gives a lot of lectures and too many readings,I found them both mostly boring. He gives the test online and for about a weekend long (They're four essay questions and one bonus.)So far, this is my least favorite class ever.
Prof Wil cares a lot about Anthro. You have a few quizzes and in class discussion but most of the grade/work centers around midterm/final in the form of essay questions. You really need to attend class and take notes. I did this and only referenced the reading material during the midterms. I never read them prior and got A's. Prof Wil is the man!
Easy A, and a great teacher! I learned more in this class than in any other college course so far (and I have 70 credits). His class was by far my favorite college class. Take his class! You won't regret it!
Prof. Will prepared me for what real college level reading and comprehension is all about. his tests may seem tedious and difficult but there is a larger purpose for them. to take his class will prepare you for more difficult courses. AWESOME TEACHER. thanks professor.
Several weeks behind the syllabus because he rambles. Printable slideshows on Angel are different than what he uses in class. Take the online course rather than in class since you'll do most of the reading on your own anyway. Tests are taken 100% from the text and are online but you'll still have to attend class while test is open
He says he won't fail you if you always come to class and pay attention but the midterm/finals are ridiculous. He talks about the most random things during class and none of it appears on the exams. I feel like I wasted my time here. And all the readings are killer boring.
Professor will rambles on alot about nothing he is very boring and gives alot of asighments that are horrible and boring he is very knowledgeable about anthro but for those who dont really care or taking it for prerequisits I suggest you turn the other way and he will give you an automatic C if you attend every class not missing absolutely one.
Professor has such a passion for Anthropology BUT wastes his talent on lectures rather than class interactions. However this is college so it wasnt unexpected. His midterm and final are hard, but he curves them which allowed me to get a B. He doesnt require much throughout the semester, a couple quizzes and class discussions but thats it. Attend=C
Midterm and final are ridiculous and WAY too time consuming. He gave a 20% curve, cause the test was so bad. I looked up EVERY answer (using the index) and still got a D on the final. DO NOT TAKE THIS INSTRUCTOR. He doesnt return emails and grades are never posted so you never really know how you're doing! I really think he enjoys failing people :(
DONT TAKE THIS INSTRUCTOR! Midterm and final are ridiculous & time consuming. He doesnt return emails. Grades are never posted. Midterm/final were opened late. You MUST attend 25 pointless lectures. He knows his Anth stuff but isnt a good instructor and I think he enjoys failing people :(
I liked this class. Lectures at time got off track, but overall class was very challenging (especially exams). If I were an anthropology major I would take more classes with him, but as an elective, he honestly was pretty tough. Huge curve though....
I liked him a lot. He is willing to help whenever you ask, his final and midterm are very hard BUT he does a curve and I think I ended up with a C and B after curve. But if you attend at least 25 classes that counts for a lot and a museum visit. Other then that, not much. He has a true passion and his lectures can get dry but interesting.Recommend!
Great professor, super smart and kinda funny. Tests are not easy and take a lot of time and energy. But over all really good class, after taking this professor I changed my major to Anthropology.
This guy knows his stuff. You can tell he has passion for anthropology which makes it interesting. If you attend every class do every assignment, test and quiz he will make sure you pass.Make sure you read before class!!!!! pop quizez!!
.... Oh boy, let me just start by saying Wil is a pretty interesting guy, nothing bad to say about the guy himself, but my god his exams are outrageous; took me 4 days to complete the mid term and i had the internet and both text books at hand. ALOT of reading and pointless lectures. save yourself the hardship, do not take this class.
Lectures aren't consistent with readings. He rambles about the Custer battlefield a lot. lame jokes, but he's a pretty good guy just.... the lectures are pointless and the exams are complicated, an essay for each question practically. The Museum project is a pain too. Avoid.
Nice guy, passionate, uses big words, Rated R. I've learned to gather meaning fom various sources and come to a conclusion. The matierial is dense and Wil is dry, but he's fair and kind. If you're used to being entertained and having life handed to you, then don't take this class.
This class is surprisingly easy. All you have to do is come to class and take notes. I didn't read the readings we were assigned each week, and there were never pop quizzes on them. The midterm & final are based on the powerpoints so take notes, and some things are easily found in the textbook. The midterm & final are LONG but they aren't hard. :)
Not Easy, because this is college. Long lectures, but usually entertaining. Two exams, super long not fun at all. Just do them and move on. If not an Anthropology major avoid any anthro class above 101. If you just want to learn alittle about Anthro Wil is a good Professor to teach you.
Great class, teacher well-hearsed and knowledgeable on this subject. Made it easy to enjoy and understand Egyptian history. Tough grader, but keep up with the readings and allot plenty of time for his tests, you'll do fine. Attendance is not necessarily mandatory, but he does give points to those who attend. Gives funny stories in class as well.
Professor Wil Has probably been my best professor out of all courses here at CSN. You can tell the guy loves ANTH with a passion. Tests are easy, i did not even focus much in class, but copy his notes word for word from the PP slides and you will be okay. There are two open book tests and they are online. He says show up and he will pass you
Reading is required for this class. Mandatory class attendance if you want your points for grade. It's very simple, show up read your book and if you don't ask questions it's your own fault. Prof. answers all questions and doesn't mind you interrupting the lectures. Yes, the mid term and finals are essay formats but you have plenty of time!!!
just in my third week of class. soo far it is a WHOLE lot of reading. but for the most part, he is an awsome teacher! i just have a problem reading about 120pg pr week. but other than that have fun, show up for class, and he'll pass you like he said. JUST SHOW UP FOR CLASS AND BE PROACTIVE!!
Anthropology is an interesting subject, Prof Will is not at all. Too much reading, hard exams, long lectures, and useless stories that are not related to the subject. He's funny and if you show up to class you could pass with a C. Personal opinion, I have no interest to be in this class. I no longer have an interest in anthropology
Anthropology used to be interesting for me. Just the first day of class, I was already stressed out. Too many readings that ARENT in the book. You dont use the book at all. The only good things : midterm and final arent that hard and showing up to class all the time is an automatic C (W/exit cards) his comments could be degrading and obxious
Professor makes me want to become an anthropologist even though I know I don't. He is very smart and class is always fun. For the most part class is easy..except for the five page essay midterm and final but they are take home and last four days so its doable. I would recommend this professor.
Wastes time telling jokes the beginning of class. Entire class fell a few weeks behind on the syllabus. I just stopped showing up. Would not recommend if you are an Anthropology major. He's lazy and very slow grading papers. It took him 2 months to grade an essay.
His midterm and exam are very time consuming ! He gives you a week to do it, and trust me you need that entire week to do it.You will waste a lot of paper on his class ! even though the class was ridiculous , its fairly easy. Just show up, take notes & buy his useless book. & you shall be good !
Classes are kind of mandatory. Must attend if you want points-you turn in a notecard of what you learned that day every class. He's pretty funny. Tells really interesting stories. Midterm and finals include 3 five paragraph essays. A lot of reading. 4 books, but really interesting. Real easy. If you do all the work, you'll pass :)
I ended up dropping this class because he gives you way to much work and I had 3 other classes this semester. He gives you articles to read that are very difficult to understand unless you have a masters in anthropology. the mid term is 4 essay min. 10 pages and you have 5 days to do it. He is horrible talks about himself gets behind in lectures.
He attempts jokes that are so far from funny it hurts. He wastes so much time in the beginning of class talking about nothing. He gives readings that are difficult to understand and tests you on them. The mid-term is extremely time consuming. We got way behind on the syllabus because he said he just needed a break. Do not recommend
This class is horrible!! I dread each & every class session. Very easy to get lost in lectures and fall asleep because this class is SOOO BORING!! Lot's of reading and exams are to be answered in essay format...SERIOUSLY!! Someone needs a life!! He says he tries to live up to his 2.7 rating on this website... WOW!! CAN'T WAIT TIL THIS CLASS ENDS!!
I found this class to be easy but many of the other students found him to be terrible Yes, the reading can be difficult but he explains everything in his lectures. Also, you get 5 days to do the mid-term and if planned well aren't too difficult. Just try not to push off the readings and work too much or else it is a lot to handle last minute.
OMG! spend $97 on the textbook and used it like once this semester. It took him the last day of the semester to grade the mid-term. Take this class if you wanna hear jokes, its pretty amusing though!
Really easy class but make sure you stay on top of the due dates because he only lets students know one class ahead of time and the syllabus does not reflect the class at all. He makes it seem like his class is hard and serious but it isn't, don't be fooled. Stutters quite a lot and takes the whole semester to grade assignments.
I personally liked prof. Wilreker. He mainly lectures but it's interesting. There is a TON of reading (TON). The only problem I had in this class is that his assignment dates always changed and he grades assignments late. I got my midterm grade after I took the final. I did enjoy his class, he's funny and cares about his subject and students
Except for grading assignments SUPER later (I got my midterm grade AFTER I took my final), I loved this class. Wilreker is funny, interesting and passionate. He mainly lectures and his assignment dates change OFTEN but I recommend his class especially if your an ANTH major. He helped me get through a class I was dreading.
Hated this teacher. He spends so much time talking in beginning of class about other stuff. He gives you medical articles to read and expects you to be able to interpret them into the lectures. He was late posting them and expected us to write 4 essays in 6 days. No way I ended up dropping his class. Don't recommend this teacher.
Absolutely terrible instructor. He's great in the field of Anthropology and has one hell of a passion for what he does, however he's not professor material. He doesn't follow the syllabus, he postpones scheduled assignments, sometime not at all. He didn't grade the midterms until after the final. Also talks incessantly about unrelated material.
Professor Will is extremely intelligent and passionate about the subject of Anthropology, and does his best(though not always clearly)to explain topics if you ask him because he understands how hard it is. However, he does lecture for the entire hour without breaks, rambles off topic, grades late and gives very hard essay format midterms and finals
He really loves Anthropology. I enjoyed his class. The Exams for this class are online. They're not really that hard, just very time consuming. He tends to rant randomly in the beginning of class so I was able to afford being late 5 minutes every day. He's a late Grader. Take good notes, pay attention and keep up to date on assigned readings.
I liked that he was very much into the subject, and emphasized the english usage in his course.
He's an amazing teacher I took him fall 2014 8 a.m. class(we are all zombies). He teaches great and makes us read alot but hes understandable and helps you get the concepts of antropology.
Extremely passionate for what he does and hes willing to help you understand topics if you ask. He lectures from start of class to the last second so be prepared. Take lots of notes! I never really read the book and I ended up getting a B.
Quizzes are based off of book material more than lectures. Takes FOREVER to grade, like weeks for a scantron. Nice guy, will answer any question anybody asks and knows archaeology well, but I dropped the class due to not knowing my standing from previous quizzes, an unpredictable midterm, and not wanting to complete and wait weeks for the grade.
You show up for the grade, but stay for his tangents. Overall, he's an easy, albeit late, grader, and gives a ton of essays. His stories are what convert you to love anthropology though. It is insane how much detailed information this guy knows. No one is more passionate than Prof Wil.
i would not recommend this professor for this class.
Great Class!!! He teaches with humor and his lectures were always the bright spot of my week. Yes, there is a lot of reading, but it is wormlike everything else. This is college, expect to do work. I would take this class again!
He is very helpful but his grading process is slow. He gave interesting assignments.
He answers your questions whether it's by mail or if you ask him personally. He lectures from the start of class to the end so expect to take a lot of notes. If you come to class and read the chapters that he assigns, you will be fine. Overall, it was a good class and he made it really interesting.
Lectures from start to finish. The mid term and final were pretty hard, but not super bad. He also makes a lot of jokes. Some of them are kind of funny, but most are awkward. Overall an easy class.
Some of the lectures are interesting, others will put you to sleep, especially if you have his morning class. The midterm was pretty easy but the final was difficult.
He is great! He wants people to learn to write better and understand the basics of Anth. As long as you are there in class you will understand and if you have any questions, he is there to answer them. There are maybe 5 test including final and midterms. There are outside reading for the class so I recommended reading them in advance. Trust me.
Professor Wilreker is great. Has jokes from start to finish. If you go to class everyday turn in your exit card and Read All the Assigned Readings you will be fine. Do read all the stories assigned it will help with quizzes, midterm and final exam. Easy class to pass, some lectures do get a bit boring, but some do get interesting. Would take again!
This guy is hilarious! Be prepared to read but show up everyday and enjoy wills hilarious jokes and tangents.
My advice to everyone is take this class in person not online. I felt like I was on my own and teaching myself. Professor takes forever to grade papers and I never knew my grade until the end. Would have probably enjoyed it more had it been in person. Online class is hard. You've been warned :)
His class is easy if you take it seriously enough. His class is a friendly learning environment and he often makes jokes. Wonderful teacher that you can learn from. He knows a lot more than anthropology. I recommend him to anyone who takes anthropology to take his class. IT JUST MAY SAVE YOUR GRADES!!!!!!
Going to class and doing assignments will get you an A. I recommend not reading the books he expects you read out of class, since there's only a few questions about them on the quizzes (not worth the time investment). Just fill out your exit cards, study the keywords for quizzes, and do your homework. Make sure you know how to write a paper.
This professor lectures the entire time and it becomes really tedious. I took this class for credit, but I've taken other classes just for credit and I've liked all of them except this one. Takes FOREVER to grade, midterms and finals are really hard and they are in essay form online. Not a super tough grader, but i wouldn't recommend this class.
I enjoyed this class, as long as you do the work you will pass . He has funny jokes and stories .Lectures the entire class and has two group discussions and assigns a few essays .The midterm and final are not hard as long as you do the readings and consist of 4 essays each .
Tons of reading. Very knowledgeable. Hard quizzes. Mid-term and final are " open book, open notes, open neighbor" so if you can read, write and attend class you can score an A. Overall, I learned from Professor Will, which is what I paid for.
Like any quality professor, Wilreker will make you work for it. His class is entirely lectures, but it is always interesting and insightful. He has a great sense of humor and loves to tell stories that coincide with the lectures. As an A student, I found the class challenging, but not in the extreme. Well worth it in my opinion.
Where to start? He's a bit quirky but this professor really knows the material. I can only assume, if judging by his knowledge, the man has had a lot of interest and experience with the study of Anthropology and human history. Very entertaining. This class was all lectures, reading and essays. You MUST read the material! I would take it again.
Waits whole semester to grade Unit Quizzes... so you have no idea of 15% of your grade til the last day. Takes a long time to grade in general. Over utilizes blanket statement, "Does that make sense?" when clearly no one gets it except for the Anthropology majors. Has a real hard time connecting the dots and acknowledging knowledge base of audience
Wilreker is an all over the place professor: forgets due dates, doesn't post grades till the end, goes off topic, and will add in quizzes that aren't on the syllabus. But as expected, the professor has the right to adjust the syllabus. Overall, he is funny, quirky, provides a lot of information, and gives you extra credit opportunities.
Very easy class, show up, do the assignments and you will easily pass this class. Only downside is grades are not posted until the end of the semester.
Like others said he lectures a lot, this is college though. Will made anthropology fun and because of him I'm now going for an anthropology degree. He's one of the smarter teachers I've had and is there to help his students. If you leave the class not understanding something it's kind of your fault. I always looked forward to going to his classes.
Easy class if you read and pay attention. Not too much work, total of 2 papers, one project, 2 exams (midterm and final), no more than 6 quizzes. Would take again. He is very clear and makes his lectures fun, but there is a lot of information to be taken in. At the end of each class there are "exit cards", and they are graded so go to class!
Wilreker is incredibly knowledgeable in the field of anthropology, but I don't think his skills in the field translate very well to the classroom. He takes quite a long time to grade papers, leaving your grade hanging until the last second. His lectures are very self-indulgent like he just wants to show off his wealth of knowledge in his field.
Super funny and is well with his lectures. Answers all questions. Cares about you and your grade.
Professor Wilreker is one of the funniest professors I've ever taken. His class is mostly just lectures, but he manages to make them entertaining. There are two essays that are easy and three tests that require the book. If you are uncomfortable with swearing, don't take this class. But for others, I highly recommend Professor Wilreker.
I took this class in person & it was one of my favorite classes. The Professor gives very interesting lectures, but if you don't go to class you won't pass. Grades are based on attendance, several quizzes over the readings, a midterm, and a final. The midterm and final consist of many essays so if you like writing, this is the class for you!
One of the worst professors ever, albiet he does know his stuff. Very condensending man. Ive met many professors who were not pompous. He assigned a lengthy, written midterm to be completed over break. Appreciated the time, but there was not even an option to complete early. Never updates grades so you dont know where you stand in class.
He's a really good professor and will work with you. He gives extra credit just for showing up! Notes are clear and he follows the syllabus almost to the T. I highly recommend him to everyone aspiring anthropology! Guy really knows his stuff!
Super easy class as long as you read the material. I barely did and I managed to pass with a C. He's a really nice, dorky guy. He tried his best to make his lectures more interesting by throwing in corny jokes too.
Go to class. Study for tests and quizzes. No surprises in this course.
He's a great teacher, if you take notes and show up for tests you will get an A. He cares about students and wants everyone to pass. It's very interesting and he loves answering questions.
If writing papers isn't your thing, I wouldn't recommend this class. There are 2 essays about the readings. There's also a midterm and final with 4 essays and a bonus question each. The final and midterm are the things that matter most, but the material on them are mostly from the lectures, so if you just take notes you'll be fine. Responds fast.
Great professor. The class consists of 4 big quizzes (all from textbook, long chapters), a term paper (6 pages dbl spaced), 5 online class chats (makeup assignments offered), and weekly assignments that can range from 4 sentences to 1 page responses. You have to put in the work and read the chapters or it just won't work out.
Anyone who is uncomfortable with raunchy jokes should not take this class. Attendance makes up a big portion of the grade, dont plan on skipping. Graded assignments included in class discussions, quizzes and essays. Essays were open book, and were the largest portion of the grades. Some extra credit but not guaranteed. Lectures consisted of anecdotes
Took him back in 2016. Lectures can get a bit boring but as long as you write down what's on the slides you won't ever have to really open the book. Pretty lenient/generous with grading. Attendance will affect your grade. Overall, good class, super interesting. Would recommend.
The learning objectives given at the beginning of a series of slides are supposed to be what we study for tests but most of it wasn't on the tests at all. If this class hadn't transitioned into online because of COVID-19 I'm not sure I would've gotten a good grade. He's a great guy but he's doesn't give much guidance on papers. TONS of reading.
If you actually read everything you're supposed to read you'll never finish reading! I just read chapter overviews and wrote down the things on his slides. The textbook isn't even necessary if you go to class, which is mandatory. Really enthusiastic and caring professor, but at times a bit disorganized! Pretty much a stereotypical ANTH professor.
I got D- because I need to study the test and practice writing essay. I going to take his class again, he is my best friend and my best teacher.
His classes are VERY interesting & required to attend, so answer exit cards & take notes cuz he won't post the lectures. Most essays are based on the Reader & Unit Quizzes are based on notes and textbook, but there are only 4 essays & 2 unit quizzes. Midterm has an essay portion, Final doesn't. Grades late. He's understanding. Do the work and pass
Cool teacher with a bunch of goofy jokes throughout the class. There's exit cards at the end of his class which he uses to take attendance. I took the Summer class so everything was crammed but there's a lot of reading and the essays are 3-5 pages. There were also a lot of extra credit opportunities.
Lectures had nothing to do with the work assigned, ever. Unnecessarily tangent-y; gave long winded answers that never seemed to really do the "answer" part. Barely skimmed over each topic, felt like the class should've been more focused instead of surface level everything. Gave dull feedback. Honestly would rather have just taken an online course.
Professor Wilreker makes the course content engaging, though lectures can be tangent-y at times. Attendance is mandatory, and while the textbook is used, actively participating in class is key. unstuck ai and taking detailed notes helped me prepare for exams. Overall, a solid class if you put in the work.
