He makes a difficult topic bearable with his enthusiasm. He always makes time to be available outside of class via facebook, email, and office hours for his students. He wants us to succeed but also wants us to be active in our learning. Too many students take advantage of him and complain about trivial things which is too bad.
First exam, he set a camera in front of the class to catch cheaters. We read from one text book, he teaches from another, then blames our study habits when we get confused. Nice guy, however his trust issues and authoritarian style cover up any good intentions he may have. Definitely not the professor entry level chemistry students need.
60 problems of mastering chemistry each week. tests were impossible and not even related to the lectures. cannot speak english well enough to lecture (his lectures were confusing and all over the place). doesn't help in office hours..."I taught this in lecture." thinks an average of 50% is okay for chemistry class compared to ucla standards.
Benny was our lab professor for winter chem 102 and honestly he is one of the kindest, most patient professors i've had in my years of taking chemistry. he never makes you feel dumb for not knowing anything and is always patient with you if you ask for help, and he always replies to emails super fast.
Benny was my lab professor and he was honestly one of the best lab profs I've ever had. He would always be pretty clear with his expectations of our work and experiments, he would always give me another chance to double check anything that might be wrong. If there were any extra time then he's more than happy to help you with anything done in lec.
Benny was an approachable prof. He was my lab instructor for chem101 summer section. It was 5 weeks, so it ran fast but he made the class bearable. Even he taught lab but he answers all the lecture materials when we need help. Take him to learn. It was 5w class but it was fun because we met each other everyday. I miss everyone!
Profesor Ng is very good teacher. Many make fun of him for his accent, but this man is an immigrant who worked very hard to get to where he is at a very young age and he won't stop helping you until you understand. I took him for lab during a 5 week sessions, and he made sure he had office hours even after lab finished to help students understand.
I took Benny for Chem 102 Lab during the 5 week summer session. He was a wonderful professor and was very helpful and patient. If you don't understand something he will spend time explaining a concept until you understand it. You are graded on the results of your lab so make sure to pay attention to little details and ask lots of questions.
HANDSS DOWNNN best lab professor to take. I had him for chem 102 during summer never liked lab as I did with him. he helps a lot inside class and in office hours. Also if you have questions about lecture, he'll definitely help you. He's so chill and makes jokes. he's a friend and teacher to his students. :)
Benny is a great lab professor. He also helps us with lecture stuffs. He finds the best way to help us understand the materials. Trust me, you cannot find another one that is patient and caring for his students like this professor. Definitely recommend !!!
Benny was an excellent lab professor. Very detailed, and he made you think! Didn't spoon feed you the answers. He was always available for extra help preparing for the lecture exams. He is a tough grader on the lab reports.. READ THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY AND FOLLOW THEM EXACTLY AS WRITTEN and you will be fine. He has a very dry sense of humor! :)
Benny is a passionate professor. The good thing is that he really wants you to understand the material. Its also a bad thing because if you don't understand the material deeply, it will be extremely challenging. If you study the material literally after lecture and can retain the info., take it. It's a lot of work, hardest class I've taken by far
Worst Prof ever, 50% class averages on exams. Over 400 slides of mostly irrelevant information for each exam, studied day and night but still did awful even though I did better than most. Please dont try to erase my review again, Benny.... ;) only reason his rating is as high as it is ...
Professor Benny is friendly and easygoing. However, dont let this fool you. His tests are very difficult. Never had enough time to finish any exam. Class average was always in the low 50s. Rushes through material towards the end yet still expects you to master the concepts. Curves grade at end of semester but this doesnt help.
The exams are tough. They require you to work very fast which is extremely difficult because you do not have enough time to comprehend what is being asked (many do not finish). Lab reports required for the last 4-5 experiments. Hes very meticulous about grading lab reports so make sure to really work on those. Overall, hes very nice and witty.
The exams are extremely hard and he treats you as if you are a chemist working in the field. I wouldn't recommend him because of his teaching style and impossible test. Most of the material that he goes over in class is useless because when it comes time for testing the material won't be there. Don't take him! doesn't prepare you for the test.
Really disappointed at how he doesn't prepare his students for his exams. He doesn't tell you what will be on the test. If your thinking of taking him don't, he fails as a teacher and should not be teaching this course. Take someone else who will prepare you to succeed.
If I could give him a negative it would be -5. Don't take him! His logic doesn't make sense because he says from the beginning that he wants his students to succeed yet he doesn't tell you whats on his exams or prepares you for his final. Don't take him please
Nice, chill professor - but don't let his funny personality fool you. He tends to get very upset if you don't meet his expectations. The average in class was 50%. 25% failed the class, 3 students got an A. Judge for yourself. Labs are not difficult - but he grades them very thoroughly and hardly anyone gets a perfect/good score. 85% is an A-5%curve
Extremely difficult. Nothing from lecture comes up on the exams. Avoid.
Professor Benny don't really explain stuff, but expect you to know everything. He is the worst professor you can get at pierce.
Please don't delete my review. Professor Benny is rude, he yells all the time. He expects you to know everything. DONT TAKE HIM PLEASE. I have a 4.0 GPA so I am not just saying this to offend him.
Dr . Benny is very straight forward, helpful outside of class, and most of all expects you to put in the work to succeed in his class. He honestly never discourages a student if they never do good in an exam. Instead, he motivates and pushes them to succeed. I honestly really respect him as a professor and am glad I took his class.
He is the worst professor ever. He will expect you to know everything and yells if you don't. He never explains or teaches. DONT TAKE HIM
Prof. Benny is a very smart guy, but the only problem is that he doesnt know how to teach. He expects you to know everything by yourself, and suggests you to learn from internet.
Professor Benny is a nice guy but, horrible at grading. He doesnt care if you pass or fail and all of his labs were due on exam days which only made the entire class even more stressed out. Spent hours doing lab reports and barely got Bs and Cs on them. I would not recommend anyone to take this class. Avoid at all costs.
Professor Benny is nice. Most people gave him bad reviews because they think they will just come to class and will get an easy A. Professor Benny want you to think and he makes you work for your grade. If you are giving him a bad review you either did not turn in your paper on time or you haven't studied enough.
You just have to study and finish your work on time. If you dont understand soemthing go to his office hours.
If you study, and do everything you are supposed to do, you will do well.
Dr. Benny is the best! I took him for chem 101 over summer 2018 and had him for lab. He was very nice, knowledgeable and cared for each of his students. We had a report for lab due almost everyday and the 5 weeks course was intense, but Dr. Benny definitely prepared us. He's so nice and I had a great experience. I would definitely recommend him!
I had Dr. Benny for lecture, lab, and workshop. He is very organized and prepared. His lectures consisted of menti/kahoots which had students participate in a really fun way. For his labs he would provide an outline which made things easier. His workshops were mainly for homework. Overall great professor! I'm definitely going to miss him!
Don't take him his method of teaching isn't good.
Not a good professor. He shouldnt be teaching chemistry at least not chem.102. They should make him teach lower level chemistry.
Took him in fall, found very knowledgeable, humble and alway s available for you if you need help. Test are hard but its for all Chemistry. But, atlease this time i found good teacher, only 3 exam and final (no more quizzes) labs are easy to avail points. Kahoot and menti are good way of learning, makes more intresting!!! he should teach chemistry.
AMAZING. Would take him again any time. Took laboratory with him and had honor of attending few of his classes. Nobody makes chemistry seem as easy and interesting as he does. Extremely helpful, patient and clear in explaining. Respects his students.
His tests are very hard and he will not prepare you for his tests. He doesn't care if most people are struggling and will give himself a pat on the back if few people get As. If you are good at teaching yourself you will do ok in his class, otherwise please don't take him. look at the how many people found which reviews useful and trust them.
Benny was rude and didnt like to answer questions. He wants you to teach yourself the material and expects you to know it at the same level he does. Everyone had to ask each other how to do the labs bc he didnt want to help and expects you to memorize the entire lab. He told us he makes his practice exams easier than his real exams and its true.
He is the best teacher I've ever had.
People will tell you not to take this class but DONT listen. if you want any easy A Benny isnt the prof for you. If you want to learn skills that will help you in life then this is the class for you. Benny is very clear with his teachings and exams. If you mess around he wont take it but if you show youre really trying he will help you succeed.
Professor Benny is one of those people that continues to give you hope, real hope. He is going down as my all time favorite professor no matter what. He cares so so deeply for his students. He will do EVERYTHING he can to make you pass. The most understanding and intelligent chemistry professor every. He is the kind of person that inspires you.
Dr. Benny has such a kind heart & genuinely wants the best for his students. This does not mean it's an easy class. You must work hard. Benny really pushes his students to obtain the material taught. He gives opportunities to do better in the class, and is always willing to help! Go to office hours! He's very understanding and a true inspiration!
TAKE DR. BENNY! You wont regret it, makes you work hard for your grade, but he really wants the best for his students. Dont be scared to ask for help, he wants you to succeed!!
Benny is one of the few professors I've had that genuinely cares about helping students learn everything they can. The material is difficult, but he gives you everything you need. Tons of sample problems and posts practice exams with rotating questions. Some exam questions are taken straight from the homework. Just put in the work!
Benny is a good teacher, and I will say I understand more about chemistry than I ever have. That being said, his course is challenging, but not impossible. I am not a chemistry person, but I am passing and will likely get a B in the course. He pushes his class hard, but he is a very present professor and tries his best to help students learn.
After taking Benny I have mixed feelings. He is one of the most knowledgeable chemistry professor at Pierce and its clear he has high standards. He wants you to EARN the grade. If you're taking him, you need to WORK. Don't avoid him though, he will definitely make you a better student.
Honestly dont take him. He expects you to know stuff on your own. He doesnt know how to teach.
He doesn't know how to teach and doesn't want to teach during class hours. The midterms are really hard compare to his lectures. He argues with students who ask questions during lectures and he is so rude. Couple times during class hours students offered him money for passing grade! I don't understand why Pierce college let him teach chem 102.
Dr. Ng may seem personable outside of class, but looks can be deceiving. He was rude and regularly insulted students when they would ask a question and would seldomly answer questions in lab. There was no curve at all (A was 89.88%). Test averages in the 50s-60s. Made class more difficult then it needed to be. Workload was insane. AVOID AT ALL COST
Professor Benny class can be hard due to heavy loads of homework and lots of materials you need to digest but you learn so much! He will help you if you ask him politely with reasonable questions. Overall, he is a smart and passionate professor I have ever met.
Doing this class in 5 weeks with him is borderline insanity. That online hw site ALEKS will be your life & tests aren't anything remotely to what he taught us. There was even one problem on the test that was pulled from MIT's general chemistry II exam. Overall, I recommend taking it with another professor to keep your mental health and GPA intact.
I took Professor Benny in the winter and let me tell you it was probably one of the hardest classes Ive taken. Although it was a hard class it was doable. You have to do a lot of your own learning so you get a better understanding of the things he teaches because his lectures were a bit quick paced. Passed with an A and definitely learned a lot.
Benny, i hope you read this because the fact my lecture prof said " yeah we can't have the whole class fail lab" shows that you grade WAY to hard! I struggled to do the math on the labs considering is only 1 unit. I spent more time doing lab than the chem class!!!!! stop grading so hard if anything allow students to pair up to do labs for all labs
He grades extremely hard even if you put in all your effort and go to him for help there is a high chance he will still give you a low grade. He is not very helpful if you ask him questions. One of the worst professors I have ever taken a class from. Would not recommend taking his class unless you have to.
Yes, he's a tough grader and he expects you to work your butt off for your grade. People were complaining they weren't getting As and they only studied maybe 5 hours for his tests when people who were getting As did 40+ hours of studying. He literally makes himself available 24/7 outside of class, even answering emails at 2am. Get ready to work.
Hes okay. Not the best but not the worst. He really does care about his students but he isnt good at explaining the material even though he tries hard. He is very assessable basically 24:7 but he just isnt a good teacher. He means well and tried hard but cant teach. Youre going to be stuck teaching yourself with the homework.
Okay, so, I've never really had a teacher make me break down before. I have gotten 95% and up for all of my passed chem classes until this one. I just simply DO NOT recommend him. I got a B and worked ridiculously hard for it. He does NOT teach the material that is in his exams! He gives easy examples in lecture and makes up questions on the exam
Benny. Your class had almost ruined my chances of transfer. Your exams were the hardest things I have ever taken. Each exam had a class average of below 60%. You don't reply to emails, I am still waiting for a response 3 months later after sending like 10 follow up emails. BTW I took a sample exam from another class and got 99% and 60% for yours?
I took this class for chemistry 60 lab. He expected us to know everything from the start. When we asked himQuestions, he gets annoyed and would say I already said that. He is no help what so ever. If you write 10 page rab repot he find anything to take points off and will give nothing near An A . DONT take him.
Dr. Benny is awesome, had him as my lab prof online over summer session A. The assignments are clear to follow, and you are given lots of opportunities to get a perfect score on them. Dr. Benny works really hard to promptly return grades and feedback. One of my favorite professors at Pierce.
I took him for the online lab section this summer(I got an A in the lab). You have to work very hard, but he is willing to help you as much as he can! He helped me troubleshoot some excel issues over email for hours, literally past midnight. He want to see you succeed & is very polite! Just don't procrastinate so you can put 100% into every lab.
I took Dr. Ng a while ago, but I was reminded of him when I saw a viral video of snoop dogg telling students to read the course syllabus. Dr. Ng is a really enthusiastic person and knows a lot about chemistry in general. When class was still in person, I would go to his office hours and he could answer any chemistry question I could think of.
WARNING: A tough grader ! He loves trick questions on Exams. Also make sure you pay attention to detail- marks down on labs. Office hours are helpful tho - will work with u 1-1 online to make sure you are doing the lab correctly and prepared for Exam. If you want an A read , follow lecture, go to office hours, make study guides & tutoring!!
He was the rudest professor Ive ever come across. He would belittle me and other students in front of the entire class bc we asked questions. He would answer us with an attitude like, what? Why would you think its that? Instead of being professional. He intentionally makes his exams harder and doesnt exhibit qualities a teacher should have.
Dr. Benny lead a great semester for chem 102! He puts in a lot of effort into his students, I dont know how people can dislike the guy. If you do, you probably didnt try hard enough to get an A. Getting an A was very easy I only did well on the first 2 exams and then needed a 72+ on the final to keep my A. Just do the usual and youll be fineeeee
Dr. Benny is a great professor! Chem 102 is a tough class and although the tests were nothing like what we were taught in the lecture notes, I failed every single test and still got a B! Through getting amazing grades on the HW and labs you can still get a good grade in this class because he weighs exams less than assignments!
I loved taking CHEM 102 with Dr. Benny! Although his exams are pretty tough and usually hard to do in short amount of time, I was still able to pass the class with a B. I did all my homework and lab assignments on time which helped me drastically in keeping a good grade in the class. I recommend to manage your time and study to pass this class.
Exams are hard and their points are all or nothing, but exams are weighted very lightly compared to HW and lab. Uses Proctorio. Be comfortable learning on your own, do all the homework, and do your best on the exams and you will receive a satisfactory result. Prof was consistently fast with emails and helpful during office hours.
Throughout the course of taking Dr. Bennys chem 102 class, my respect for chemistry grew so much. This class taught me so much discipline and appreciation toward things I would not have noticed otherwise. Dr. Benny is a true intellectual and taking this class will make you really appreciate the value of hard work. Overall amazing!
The tests were completely different than what was provided during our practice exams. He will test you on questions that he did not mention during lecture! The only perk is that the tests don't weigh a lot, but the average score is almost always an F.
Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had in a class. He is horribly rude if he asks you about a topic and you don't know how to do it. Makes it hard to ask him for help. Practice exams do not prepare you for the exams in any ways as he puts completely different stuff on the actual exam. DO NOT TAKE HIM, YOU WILL REGRET IT.
He is very sweet and considerate if you need an extension for homework due to unexpected issues. Tests are proctored and very challenging and a lot harder than practice exams. Have to complete aleks assignments every week. Lectures are not mandatory but strongly recommended. Really have to work for your grade!
If you read this it is a sign TO NOT TAKE HIM. Absolute worst experience. For being a chemistry teacher who brags about being so well educated, clearly he didn't show it this semester. Exams aren't a way to tests ones ability in understanding the topics. Its more of guessing if he will mention the topic or not. Practice exams don't help at all!
I can easily say that taking Chem 102 with Dr. Benny was one of the worst experiences of my life. His exams are impossible, and the average was always an F. Despite this, he offers ZERO extra credit. He simply does not care about the mental being of his students. Felt like he had me in a chokehold all semester. Absolutely DO NOT RECOMMEND.
This class felt impossible. He purposely makes exams wayyy harder than they should be and basically sets you up for failure. He does not care if his students do well, he actually prefers to do the opposite. Very disappointing course to put it lightly. If you have a different option, do yourself a favor and avoid him. Would not recommend at all.
This was one of the most difficult classes I've ever taken. The tests were particularly brutal. The class average on every test was an F. Benny was unwilling to view this as any fault of his. He tested on material that he didn't have time to lecture on, but we were expected to know (nuclear chemistry and crystalline solids). AVOID his class!!!
This class is really hard. I do believe that benny is a good professor. He communicates and gives us lots of resources. I just don't recommend taking him online. I feel as though his standards are held to as if we were in the actual classroom, and thats hard when we're still forced to work from home.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE!!! This professor does not tell you which information is more important and more likely to be tested on. In fact, he tells you to read the entire book, do all the practice questions, and to review all the Aleks material on topics. Whoever performs well on tests is based on luck, he will not show you what u got wrong.
Do not take this course with this professor unless u want to lower your GPA!!!! I wish I would have listened to the other reviews. The exams are pretty ridiculous averaging a 50. He loves to throw curve balls on exam. This class was mentally draining.. you're basically told to study everything w/ no direction. AVOID AT ALL COST
Professor Benny can be put into two simple phrases: Good teacher, bad grading system. His exams are misleading and tend to not follow the things we learn. He throws curveball questions ALL the time. Prepare to sacrifice your summer because you will have a terrible 8 weeks of stress. Would not recommend even though he's a nice guy by heart.
Of all the classes I've taken throughout CA at CC and UC, I can honestly say that Dr. Benny is the best professor I have had. His class is tough so I wouldn't recommend it over summer unless it is ALL you are doing. He cares so much, encourages, and pushes you. Make time to meet with him and get ready to dedicate many hours to his class. Worth it
AVOID IF YOU CAN!!! Definitely listen to the reviews on here because they are correct, this class is insanely difficult especially if you take it over the summer. The class average for exams is usually a low F and he does not curve them. His lectures are also pretty unhelpful as the exam questions are nothing like what he covers in class.
AVOIDDD his labs for chem101 are extremely complicated for no reason and take foreverrr to do. The work for chem101 is already so much plus with his labs its very frustrating. Do not take his class!!!
This guy teaches! He makes tou work for your grade, but you'll know chemistry coming out of his class.
Benny will give consistent encouragement and responds super fast if you have any questions. The course is tough, but rewarding in that you'll definitely be learning good study habits, which will take you far in the long run.
Dr. Benny is a caring professor that prepares you but the course is not an easy A. Work is challenging but create a good schedule throughout the semester so you wont fall behind. Exams are the hardest but Professor gives partial credit. Focus extremely on ALEKS. As long as you do well on other assignments, bad test grade wont hurt too bad overall.
Great professor. Very difficult and very demanding class but who expects the last chem class before O-chem to be an easy A? Work your butt off and you may learn a valuable lesson! You will learn how to rely on study groups and office hours. He puts tons of effort into his classes. Makes himself available at all hours through the night.
As a person, Dr. Ng is great. Such a sweetheart, and he definitely cares about his students. But not their grades. There were 3 exams, excluding the final, where the averages were lower than 60 percent. I dont recommend him, but if you do take him, focus on ALEKS, and beware of the tests as the questions givenare different than what you are taught
This class consumes all your time and you won't be prepared for exams. Practice exams are bogus and exam averages are below 50. Lectures are worthless since you already did ALEKS the week before. No lab guidance. Puts in effort and tries to help but needed lots of students complaining before he changed anything (begrudgingly). TAKE SOMEONE ELSE.
Be wary of the good reviews. Dr. Benny answers emails promptly, but he doesn't help prepare you for his exams. A few times the hw on Aleks was due the day before it was taught in lecture. He only helped us the last few weeks of the semester when most of the students complained that his methods weren't working. Every exam score avg was 30 to 40%
Professor Benny is truly a hidden gem. If you want to really learn chemistry and grow up in maturity and discipline, then take him! This is a challenging class but if you organize yourself in the first week of the semester regarding schedule, YOU CAN DO IT! He is very helpful during classes and doesn't hesitate to help those who are interested.
The exams for Professor Bennys class dont At all align with any material given. Students averaging 40s on EVERY exam. If concerns were expressed he would ignore any questions regarding lecture material. Very poor with time management, we had several exams and speeds through lectures within the last few weeks of a full term. Refrain From Taking.
The class itself is VERY demanding. Taking it in 5 weeks is not the best idea especially if you work because you have 70-100 slides of lecture notes to submit each day (sometimes 3 of those in 2 days) on top of ALEKS weekly progress. It is doable but VERY challenging. 3 exams + 1 final. Final exam is NOT the same as practice ones. No quizzes.
Worst teacher I have ever had. ALEKS makes chemistry homework way more work than it should be. Dr.Benny makes his tests impossible. Every test had an average of 40% or lower. I studied extremely hard and no matter what, I failed his tests. He loves trick questions and his lecture and homework does not prepare you for the curveball test questions.
Benny really cares about his students and will work outside of class to help with content as needed. When it comes to exams though, they are very difficult and the questions range in difficulty (mostly fill in the blank). Wished that the exams consisted purely of questions from Aleks. Lots of online homework too. This class by no means is easy!
Dr. Benny is a rare type of professor: He truly cares for his students and where their understanding is on Chemistry. He is tough with respect challenging you when you have a question, it is not out of spite, it always leads to good discoveries and "ah-ha" moments. Frankly, He is one of my favorite professors in STEM hands down.
the weekly workload was pretty heavy and tedious and he will not hesitate to remove points if not done correctly. Despite this, he will help you if you need help. Email him or go to his office hours: he may be condescending about it but he will help and does genuinely care for his students. Don't take if you want an easy professor
Professor Benny's exam questions are on his lecture videos, practice his sample questions multiple times and make sure you understand it 100%. - Stay on top of ALEKS, Lab, and lecture homeworks to pass the class. He is a great professor and he surely cares. - Make sure you save your ALEKS work for knowledge check. - Be organized.
gives so much aleks, tests are terrible because some of the content does not reflect what was previously taught in lecture.
Dr. Benny is an AMAZING professor. He is extremely passionate in what he's teaching. I HIGHLY recommend going to his office hours, he is very patient and helpful. I withdrew due to the time constraint of a 5-wk course, but I would have loved to take his class during 16wks. He is a tough professor, but STEM classes are meant to be challenging!
He barely cares about the class, all of the students in his class we agreed to email him about our concerns of most of the class failing and we didn't feel like we were learning and he responded giving some notes and things that supposedly were related to our second exam because in our second exam we got stuff we didn't even learned in the class.
accessible and cares in office hours but tests sometimes give topics not discussed in lectures, can be condescending when asking for help.
This teacher is very misleading, very friendly, but the class was HORRIBLE. Most ended up dropping. Not only were the exams absolutely nothing like we were taught, or were told to study, but we would also receive a class average of about 40%, only for him to blame us for "not studying enough". TO SAVE YOUR GPA, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE! AVOID.
Taking Chem60 during Winter is not easy. There is a lot of homework, a lot of lectures and compulsory attendance. Although he offers extra credits, the exams are graded so tough. I wouldn't recommend taking his class if you are doing it for 5 weeks as it's fast-paced, so demanding of time and needs dedication -- so worse when you work!
Prof Benny is super knowledgeable and takes time to explain things very in depth. He does try to work with you and help you understand the material. The class is tough PERIOD. He grades realistically. STEM classes are meant to be tough. You can tell he cares and is passionate- just have to care and be passionate and apply yourself or you will fail.
Professor is very knowledgeable and a nice person, however, I personally did not enjoy him as my lecture professor as I feel as if the topics were sometimes confusing when he explained it and I feel as if he wasn't thorough enough with examples during the course of the semester. However, there are several EC opportunities and he is very accessible.
never again
Every morning driving to his class i would not wear a seat belt in hopes of a better fate. this man is worse than evil, and he doesn't care for anyone, probably not even his own mother. no compassion or empathy, and had a hollow, empty, black heart. avoid at all costs, even if it means pushing back your graduation, or even changing career paths
WOW can I just say WOW , Please avoid at all cost . My 13th reason .
He's ok. Lots and lots of aleks. He's good at responding to feedback, and emails. He gives extra credit but it doesn't do much. I wouldn't recommend if you are taking another stem course.
This class had lecture online with in person lab. Online science lectures are tough but if you have to do it his class is good he breaks it into short videos that are done well. He is always willing to help , extremely patient and caring. tough class if you focus hard from the get go you'll get through . 2 quizzes a week drops lowest exam.
I really enjoyed how everything worked—the extra credit, ALEKS, they were all good resources and helpful. It was a difficult class as chemistry itself is difficult, but he was super helpful and encouraging with providing studying resources and helpful tips for memorization and road maps. The hard work you put in will pay off!
I highly recommend this class! The professor is fair with grading and offers extra credit to help boost your grade. As long as you stay focused and complete your assignments, you'll do well. The professor is always available to help and is very kind, ensuring you understand the material. I 100% recommend this class for a rewarding experience!
Dr Benny is amazing! I took his hybrid class. As long as you watch his lecture videos, do Aleks, weekly online quiz, attend workshop you'll do great. He's very helpful and offers extra credit.
For a first time taking chem since Highschool this class was a bit challenging but totally passable if you really pay attention to what is being taught. Dr. Benny offers A LOT of extra credit and is always willing to help during class hours or workshops. Be prepared to do a lot of math and memorization, highly recommend this professor.
Dr. Benny is a great Chemistry professor. He cares a lot about his students. The negative reviews are probably from those who didn't even care to do the work or visit Dr. Benny's office hours for extra help. Yes, there is a lot of ALEKS homework to do, but it only benefits you. Do the work, go to office hours, and participate. You'll be fine.
If you take the class seriously and know the concepts, you will be fine. Just do your best.
People don't give Dr Benny the credit he deserves as he is a great professor who genuinely cares for his students, if you put in the time and have a strong work ethic you'll be sure to ace his class. Has really helpful office hours that are three hours long and will answer all of your questions.
Professor Benny's class is challenging, but engaging. The exams are tough, so stay on top of ALEKS, homework, and practice problems. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for study prep. Overall, a rewarding experience if you're willing to put in the work.
Dr. Benny gave thorough lectures and lots of opportunity for extra credit. He also was very understanding when it came to late work which was so helpful during a busy semester. I can tell that he really cares about student success and I appreciate all he did to make this difficult class less stressful. 100% would take another class with him
He's lectures are extremely long, and his work is time consuming. His accent is a bit difficult to understand and he doesn't explain topics all to well. He kind of expects you to know things and if you don't understand it, he usually explains it to you but not in the best way. He's a tough grader and if you struggle with zoom classes dont take him.
Dr Benny was a very good professor, and very helpful. His office hour would help me better understand the material and clear any questions that I had! Also very funny, understanding, and relatable professor. Just be ready to do lots of work!!
I'm waiting for the withdrawal window to open up. This class is hard work and no reward. So much ALEKS. I thought I was crazy thinking how insane it was for exam averages to be in the 40s. There's a 5 hr online lecture online and he doesn't teach. Just goes over student questions. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. YOU WILL FAIL.
Dr Benny is caring, however he is an alright professor. He doesn't go in depth or in detail in his lecture videos. The examples in the videos are easy whereas the exams are hard. The exams are in person even though this was an online class. Lots of memorization because he doesn't give you a lot of the needed tables/charts on the exams.
Don't do it.Worst professor. Tests are hard&long&worth 80% of grade.Lectures are confusing(he confuses left&right)ALEKS hw=stress&barely counts.+ extra weekly meetings&more hw+extra quizzes w/out lab. No help in office hrs, passive aggressive expects u 2 know&no care w/ IEP.good reviews are fake. Sm hw there is no time 2 study for horrible tests
Horrible. I saw one of the most smart students drop out bc even they couldn't handle his shenanigans. I thought the bad reviews were exaggerated but boy was I wrong. I don't know how he is still a professor. Not a lot of students are passing.. He really expects you to know everything & gets upset when u don't. He also has no care w/ IEP
He's caring..w/ handing hrs worth of hw. Don't take this class if you want to be able to eat, sleep, care for other classes, & have enough time for respiration. Lecture vids he picks simple problems vs on the test he picks severely complex questions that makes this feel like organic chemistry vs general chem. Don't take it at all
AVOID. HOURS of homework multiple times a week from an outside website aleks. lectures make it seem easy, he puts the easiest examples on there and then the tests are impossible. the test was a packet, nobody had time to finish. questions were things we were never taught, u wouldnt find one example remotely similar in the lectures. test average 51%
I haven't rated Professor Benny yet, but I took him during the Fall semester of last year. His lectures were online videos and his homework consisted of a paid website called ALEKS (be prepared to be doing this all week). Exams were all in person. Be prepared to study a lot of topics for each exam. Final cumulative exam at the end of the semester.
Terrible. Hours of aleks work on top of lectures and tests. In his lectures he goes over simple problems while on tests and homework the problems are far more difficult or just haven't been covered. Regret taking his class.
Very time consuming, he is unable so assign reasonable amounts of classwork or cover the topics properly. He does not include large parts of his lectures on tests and include small parts of the lectures on multiple pages of the tests, no study guides or any support. Beware of this professor if you want to pass a class and have a job/life/sanity
I took this during the summer session and have no complaint. A trend I notice is people biting off more than they can chew + balancing their own life and taking it out on him in their reviews. The work is just the right amount to prepare you for studying and learning at a college level. This is not a math class so do not expect to just fill in ?'s
Dr Benny is a great professor and really cares for his students. If you put in the time and do the homework and are engaged you will do well in this class. If you are having trouble with his class go to office hours, Professor benny listens and is extremely helpful and doesn't make you feel stupid when you have questions.
Assigned an excessive workload far beyond Chem 060 scope. After getting an A in both Chem 101 and 102, I'm appalled by how unrealistic his demands were. Gave minimal explanations, expected 40+ hours of study weekly, and was terrible at clarifying concepts or helping students succeed. Am also convinced he writes good reviews on himself. U WILL FAIL!
It's crazy when you realize one bitter student is spamming hundreds and hundreds of professors at different LA colleges and making up stories and insulting the professor. You'll realize that Professor Ng is nothing like this student's made-up stories about this
He should not teach chemistry. Noticed the positive reviews are fake because most of them includes phrases he uses and almost every student in my class complaint abt him &yes he goes over simple questions in lectures but the exam questions are worse. Looking to report him
1-3 hours of lectures per week (2x speed and skipping his problem explanations can cut down to 10-30 minutes). 1 hour of ALEKs problems that are really not all that complex per week. As long as you watch lectures and pay attention during the zoom meetings, it's an easy A. He seems to be awake all day because he will respond to emails very quickly
