Great professor! Attendance is not mandatory but you cannot do well on the exam without attending class. Exams are not easy but require studying. You will need the book for exams and project. Group project is a big part of the class. Choi usually offers a decent amount of extra credit. He can be somewhat hard to understand but overall a great prof!
Project seems like a lot of work, but if you do everything that he tells you, you will get a good grade on the project. For the pop quizzes, there is two inbetween each exam, just review the power point slides and the pop quizzes are easy.
Pop Quizes make it so you need to attend class. Large group project and paper and final exam at the end. A lot of work for the end of the semester. Hard to understand sometimes. Overall an ok professor.
"Peter" Choi is HARD.I worked my butt off this semester.3 tests,5 quizzes,a big group project with a presentation,& a paper about other groups presentations. He's a hard grader.Even though he doesn't take role, you need to come to class and take notes for the quiz cuz each quiz is 25 pts. When he says "Know this" during lecture, it will be on da quiz
There are 2 professors here with the same name. The one I am writing about is Beomjoon Choi for Mktg 122. I found this professor to be hard to understand w/accent, too hard of a grader, and rude. He comes across as arrogant and his tests are extremely difficult. I don't recommend him for Mkt122 but I think he's the only one that teaches it.
He has five quizzes and the lowest is dropped. They are based on lecture, not the book, from the previous day's lecture. His tests about 70/30 on the book and lectures--you MUST read. If you do you can pass easily. The group projects are not too hard, and the case studies are a pain but he is very helpful.
I don't know what people are talking about, this teacher is super easy for mkt 122. Study guides, easy quizzes based off past lecture. There's a bit o work but if you made it this far you'll pass
he is a bad teacher. Not helpful at all, for the quizes make sure you parrot back his exact words or it is wrong. Hopefully he gets laid off before you have to take this class.
Terrible professor, no real Marketing experience. He simply reads straight from the textbook. His quizzes are difficult because he wants his EXACT words with no exceptions. He is very dense/shallow and not open to new discussions/ideas unless he read about it in a book.
This is for Beomjoon Choi AKA "Peter". Pop quizzes are difficult; study previous lecture. Whenever he says "FOR EXAMPLE" you make sure you write that down and remember it. These examples can be used to answer the pop quizzes. EXAM IS HARD, too much none/all of the above when that's not the answer. Class project is writing a paper about a business.
His way of teaching helps you remember content during class using real life examples. Pop quizzes, and he writes his own exams, 1 group project. GO TO CLASS--random extra credit sometimes! :)
Peter Choi is a great professor and not to be confused with his brother who is the exact opposite. 5 pop quizzes and 1 is dropped but he hints at when it will be. 3 exams and no cumm. final. Make's his own power-points and gives lots of examples. 1 group project that was simple.
He's a little hard to understand, but very excited about the subject. He LOVES to use cars in a majority of his examples. Exams are hard though, with very wordy questions. Quizzes are easy, you just need to review the previous lectures notes. Does give out extra credit though, which is nice and easy grader on written assignments. All in all he's ok
He's so enthusiastic about the subject, it made lectures fun and engaging. Has an accent but is still easily understandable. Encourages discussion/participation. One group project, 4 open book/note quizzes. 3 exams, 2 case studies. Always willing to answer questions. Would and probably will take again for another class.
Peter and Beomjoon are the same person. Peter is his American name. He is so sweet! A little hard to understand, but very helpful. Yes his tests are hard, but as long as you pay attention in class you're ok. LISTEN TO EXAMPLES HE USES! Examples dominant the testsquizzes. Tests are mostly from lecture, so LISTEN!
Class consists of lectures, quizzes, 3 exams, lots of group work, final group project and presentation. THICK accent, hard to understand and gets frustrated easily if asked question, gave about 5-10 EC point. . O yea has a icebreaker the first day like were little kids.
Be ready for a presentation every week. The group you pick on the first day is the same group you'll be stuck with all semester, choose wisely... This class is A LOT of work, but its not that hard.
He really wants you to learn, gives good engaging real life examples in lecture. Lots of group work so pick a good group, you're stuck with them all semester. 2 exams, 1 individual paper, 1 group final paper, 3 Ted Talk, 5 NAG assignments, gives a lot of EC. Overall a great professor, he's very approachable and is willing to help!
Choi is a really straightforward professor. This class has a TON of group work so choose wisely. You can split up the various presentations between different group members. 2 exams, 5 NAG assignments (super easy), and a bunch of group presentations/projects. He wants you to learn and offers random extra credit points so make sure you attend class.
Choi means well but he has a very heavy accent. All of the lectures are provided and the quizzes are open note and laptop. Be careful who you pick as your group because you will have to work with them all semester long. Overall not a hard class but the tests can mess up your grade.
I LOVED Choi. His class was interesting and engaging. 4 Quizzes that you are aware of, 3 exams, and a group project. He stresses being in class to take notes but his lectures are so interested you never feel like not going. He's a very smart guy and I really enjoyed him as a person & prof. Take him if you can.
I really liked Choi! His lectures were helpful for tests & entertaining. Randomly takes attendance 5x's during the semester, 4 quizzes that are scheduled, 3 exams, 1 group project/presentation (Choose your group wisely!) & a few HW assignments. Something to note: FOLLOW & ANSWER all his instructions bc he is very particular! He's a tough grader!
He wants everything done a certain way, but his class is relatively easy. The hardest thing you'll have to worry about is the exams. If you study his lecture slides for the exams you should be fine. We had 3 exams, 1 group research paper, 1 group presentation, and online homework every couple weeks. Definitely recommend, easy class.
Very unclear in describing pretty much anything. Tests are hard and reference more on the book. The quizzes are easier and reflect more on his lectures. A couple group assignments. Pick wisely, same group for the whole semester. Randomly takes attendance.
If you attend and participate in class you will be fine. Online assignments throughout the semester, so it is not a time-consuming class. Review the quizzes and his study guide and you'll pass the tests. Buy the book if you need an A, if not just buy the access to Pearson. As long as you can apply the terms to real life the class will be easy.
Kind of difficult to understand due to his accent, but he is very knowledgeable and his lectures are easy to outline. Class consisted of 2 group projects, 2 case studies, 3 tests, and some simple online assignments (quizzes, scenario analysis). During lectures, he will randomly call on people so make sure to read!
Lectures are very helpful if you show up, he gives real life examples to understand concepts. Picks on students to answer questions so be ready. Quizzes online, gives scenarios on tests... Pick your group wisely, in-class group activities (cases) and a group project at the end. He's a funny professor :)
He was hard to understand, but overrall a good class. You definitely have to put in the work to get a good grade. He is not afraid to call on anyone in class, so be prepared to answer questions thrown at you. Make sure to read the textbook and study the example he gives during lectures, because the tests are hard and revolve around them.
Learned a lot. Thick accent, so hard to understand. Tests are difficult, must FULLY understand concept AND some or you won't get above C. I would take a different teacher.
Avoid this professor as much as possible. Teaching style is not great and isn't able to explain what he is trying to say properly. Gets mad for going to his office hours without an appointment although it says in the syllabus you can meet him during his hours OR BY APPOINTMENT. Makes exams really hard, class average on the final was in the 60s
Tests were extremely hard and we didn't receive a study guide. You're able to balance out grade if you do all the online quizzes and assignments but tests still take a huge toll on your grade. Textbook was also really expensive.
Professor Choi is a good professor! There were a lot of group projects/in-class activities & one huge marketing final project. I'd recommend reading the book and going over his lecture notes for tests. He does take attendance & he grades on participation. His exams are mostly 50 word problems, so make sure you know your key words and definitions!
The professor's teaching style is engaging and interactive. He provides examples and leaves slides blank to fill out during class. Exams are multiple choice, quizzes are not, and they are challenging. Choose your group wisely as you will be stuck with them the whole semester and group work is a huge part of the grade. Need to work for a good grade.
He is the most annoying professor. Keeps asking you simple questions and doesn't move on until he gets the answer he wants. Its pointless going to class but takes popup attendance. Power points are the worst, specially being a marketing professor. Sit in the corner and doze off. He will ruin marketing for you. Run people run!
Most infuriating human being ever. Askes simple questions, no direct answer. Lectures fast, claims everything is on the slides, but only 10% are. Very dfficult to understand. Tests are difficult, no study guide, takes random attendance, doesn't care, strict and group projects. If he is your last resort, I'd wait for next semester for someone else.
He was my hardest class this semester, but my favorite class. He was so passionate about what he taught and made me inspired to work harder. I think he is an amazing professor. His class is a lot of work, but it is a class that you will walk away with a lot of knowledge.
Professor Choi was a strange guy. He was very particular about certain things. For example, you had to raise your hand to talk or he'd ignore you. Also, once your presentation time was up he would cut you off in the middle of speaking without any warning. Even though he was very passionate about the material I was not a fan of this class.
His accent makes him difficult to understand while lecturing, which makes it makes it difficult to take notes. PowerPoints are used, but have minimal information on them. He takes some questions from quizzes and mini sims, but others he writes himself and are hard to interpret because of the language barrier. If you can, take another professor.
I do not recommend taking him at all. He is rude and condesending, and not accessible outside of class. he does not like questions. He writes his test using such bad grammar that his questions are hard to understand. He does not enjoy his job and it is clear. I finished with an 89.9 and he refused to round it up.
I LOVED Dr. Choi. He is very knowledgeable and very smart. He inspired me to study harder, and I enjoyed his class a lot. I was impressed by his teaching style. I learned a lot in this class and I never felt bored . I don't understand the bad reviews here because he is a great lecturer. A+ for this professor.
Not a bad professor. One semester project- you can choose your group. Project is creating an app/business/service and doing the marketing plan. 15-25 pages. 3 exams non cumulative and all the questions are scenario questions so need to understand the key words. Overall just print his slides and everything that u need to know will be on there.
Do not recommend this prof at all. He is not accessible outside of class and does not like answering questions. There is a lot of group work in this class, and he is not very useful when it comes ti feedback for anything. He does not round up grades and in class he is incredibly condescending .
He gives you so many group projects so be prepared for that. His exams are kind of difficult because he makes his own questions and some of it does not make sense. He is very picky when it comes to group projects as well. He can also be rude sometimes if you ask questions.
This professor is the worst one you could probably take. He lashes out on his students when he's irritated or something is not going his way. Whenever you're presenting, he just sits there with a face that's either showing no interest or irritation. Do yourself a favor and dont take this professor even if he's the last one in the available list.
NOT understanding of online course situation. requires that you use your webcam during class. grades on dumb stuff like creating questions for other presentations. high expectations. condescending & visibly RUDE during presentations. gets annoyed easily. lots of extra credit, but the class is almost competition based & inhibits healthy learning.
He gets frustrated easily. Random attendance check. The exams were long and there was not enough time. 2 Exams, 2 case assignments that you work with a group, 1 group project (15-25 pages essay), 1 final exam. Would not recommend. Have to study a lot.
I do not recommend. His tests are 60-70 paragraph-style questions with poor grammar. You have about a minute to do each question, but it takes about 3 minutes to even understand them. Wording such as, Which of the following is least likely not false. Tons of group work. No feedback or reasons behind grading. He Couldnt seem less interested
18 credits this sem. and he's the only 1 that didnt give me an A. Horrible teacher. Reads pre-made lectures given by textbook company verbatim in BROKEN English. U could read the chapter and get more out of it. Me: US Army Sniper, raised by 2 educators 1w/ masters 1w/ Dr... Take it from me, boycott his classes. He is terrible. His tests are weird.
This professor is one of the laziest in the marketing department. He teaches nothing, even lecture notes are directly from the assigned book. He does not know his craft and when you question him no matter how politely put he is aggressive. How he is still allowed to stay at Sacramento State is beyond me. He grades unfairly without detailed reason.
A lot of these previous reviews are harsh. If you show up to class, pay attention to lecture and take notes, you will be just fine. He encourages participation which students don't like to do, especially over zoom. But that is what makes his lectures engaging! I think for online, he did a great job. Tough exams, but take notes you'll be good!!
This class is way too involved for a 101 class. Too many different things going on at once: Tests, group projects, case studies, etc. Tested on vague terminology that can be easily confused with one another. Tests with lots of question with little time to complete them. No guides for tests "Just read chapters 1-7." Take something else.
This online class is the worst I've taken. He relies heavily on participation, though it is not part of the grade. When you do actively participate, he doesn't provide much feedback and isn't afraid to tell you you're wrong. The homework is vastly different than the exams. Extremely tough grader with little feedback to help on future assignments.
top 3 professor from the bottom up
Choi honestly ruined marketing for me. He is the worst professor I have ever had. Avoid this class, trust me.
Professor Choi is a great professor. He checks up on students to make sure that they understand the material. He gave us extra credit points to increase the class average on exams. He provides a lot of examples that make the material more understandable and engaging. There's 3 exams, a group project, and online quizzes (homework on Connect).
I'm not sure why the previous ratings are so bad. Professor Choi is super engaging. All you have to do is come to class, take notes and review your notes for studying. For exams I would look at the examples he provides as well as main terms. He does random attendance checks but I would recommend coming to class regardless. Overall he is great.
Don't know why Professor Choi had negative reviews when he is a respectable professor. He provides examples to makes the concepts understandable. He is patient and respected to students. Often checks up on us and asks what we need to pass his class. Class consists of 3 exams, ~10 chapter quizzes on Connect, group project.Take this class!
This is actually a review for MKTG190. I don't know if it was because it was a summer class or what, but this was awful. I enjoy the subject matter but he made it unbearable. Picked on students all class. Will scream out your name demanding specific answers randomly. It was pretty evident that this material was hard for some to grasp. NO CHILL.
Professor Choi was really great! His exams weren't too hard, just make sure you study the terminology really well. He was very engaging in lectures and would always link it to something in real life to help the example stick. Overall, he was approachable and pretty fair. P.s For the group project make sure you pick good groupmates!!
Lots of group work but definitely doable. Participate a lot. He takes attendance and if you are online he requires camera on when talking or taking attendance. Good professor, I enjoyed his class. I took mktg 190 and mktg 125 with him over the summer. Provides extra credit opportunities.
Professor Choi is funny and he makes the entire class laugh. Our class is well aware of the participation required and we all do a great job in participating in class discussions. There is a lot of work to be done including chapter reading, quizzes, mini stimulations, case analyses, and a major group project. He cares about you, just do your part.
Very judgemental of student work and get demanding of certain features not expected by students. Group work is very detrimental to grade. Judges group work very harshely. Presentation went over time by a little and he cut the grade in half just based off of the time. Very good at showing his disappointment with sighs and a face full of attitude
do not recommend!, takes his emotional issues out on students, not helpful outside of class. doesn't respect his students, always interrupts and cuts them off. Is not considerate to students at all. He thinks hes nice but is not. creates group projects & shows sighs of disappointment when presenting & doesn't make himself clear when explaining.
not prepared, not helpful
Will curve exams, a LOT. Will very openly show his displeasure on most presentations, even to the guest lecturers he invites. Exams are definitely hard, even for a straight A student. He's kinda funny sometimes.
decided to take professor choi and has been the worst mistake of my life. This professor does not take his student serious and makes wordy exams. Professor has anger issues and takes it out on students. Good luck if this professor was your only option.
Professor Choi did have very interesting lectures and was straightforward when presenting his material. However, despite being so straightforward he was also very narrowminded and didn't accept an answer that didn't exactly match what he was expecting, which would discourage participation. Had very hard exams but provided extra credit.
Most difficult professor I have had. MUST go to lectures, he makes exams based off them. Exams are crucial to your grade and brutal w/ challenging, 5 option multiple choice questions. He does not repeat himself and outside material will only help a fraction. Not a lot of homework. Very insightful lectures and will give out TONS of extra credit.
One of the most difficult classes I took besides DS101. His exams were EXTREMELY HARD with essay-like multiple-choice options. I would start studying a week in advance and get a C average. Exams are mostly based on his lectures, so going to every class and writing everything he says is important. He gives EC bc low test scores and takes attendance
His exams were very hard for me. I would study all the materials from my notes, but when it came to the test, he words things very confusing. Long tests that are multiple choice. I am an A student, but I could not get a B or higher on all 3 exams no matter how much I studied. I never missed class and took extensive notes and still struggled
pick your members well bc your project matters the most (term long), the class is hard + the exams are extremely difficult. mc exams but the questions are a paragraph long with difficult wording. if you go to all classes you'll get extra credit and he does offer ec for the exams. make sure ur project matches the obj bc a lot of groups missed that
He doesnt even teach that well and expect you to know everything, he literally had to give our class 30 extra credit points for the first exam because the average was a 50%. His assignments are horrible, just don't take him save yourself the time
Don't take this guy. A lot of group project. Save yourself some time.
Do not even bother taking this class. two projects with two presentations and three exams. Not enough time to study or work on the final project. Extremely hard tests. The average was 50% on the test.
This guy is a joke Don't take him at all.
Made one of the most simple classes so hard, I hated taking this class because of him
Horrible teacher that can't even teach a simple marketing class
always had a discouraging, grumpy attitude that he made clear we knew of. everyone seemed to almost fail every single exam because he was not great at teaching. study the lectures for the exams. most of the actual work is team projects/presentations so if you have a bad team, it makes it hard to get a good grade. individual assignments were easy.
The material seemed easy, but there were times where I was having trouble grasping concepts. He's a VERY tough grader on the individual/group assignments. When it comes to exams, They were somewhat difficult. He doesn't test directly on terms and definitions but more so conceptual and analyzation. There are better professors out there.
Awful. The group projects are weighted heavily and he grades very harshly. The exams are nothing like the lectures or textbook readings and he doesn't go over the exams afterwards or let you see what you got wrong. He grades participation but also tells you you're wrong no matter what your answer is. Save yourself the stress, just don't take him.
Always suddenly blocked the lecture notes with pictures. The exams were very tricky--many questions were very wordy with five choices. Exam scores averaged between 65% and 73%. Gave tons of extra credit because of these low scores. He also gave two major group projects, each with a presentation AND a paper. Never gave ANY feedback on missed points
Amazing teacher no complaints
HORRIBLE professor and HORRIBLE attitude. He's extremely rude, even when you try and guess an answer he just shuts you down. Exams are extremely difficult, barely anyone passes them and ends up giving extra credit. Group project heavy course. Don't bother taking him unless you want to be shot down every time you try and participate.
Amazing teacher, no complaints. Group up with people similar to you or you can kiss your points goodbye.
The professor never gave any feedback if he docked your points on any assignments. He gets very moody and takes the group project presentation too seriously as if it's a real thing. 3 exams including the final and the average was around a D for each exam, making each exam unnecessarily harder than what it has to be. He enjoys seeing students fail.
Do NOT EVER take this professor. He gives two huge projects with presentations and a paper on top of 3 EXTREMELY hard exams. He wants us to fail and does not care if we pass.
I have to thank myself for being bold/strong+disciplined enough to endure trauma, stress & sleep deprivation. Finally, I passed. This is an unforgettable exp I can never forget. I'm happy that I won't go thru it ever again. Goodluck to those MKTG majors :) If u only take 3 units/sem, I think u're fine with this Tks myself again! Thank me Thanks :)
If you're motivated enough, you can still get an A. There are a lot of opportunities of extra credits and curves, please take full advantages of them. My friend skipped 40% of classes but studied hard enough, she still got an A with +cred assignments. I took all ec and got an A as well. It's hard, you must stay focused and motivated. Otherwise, T.T
Your success in this class is based on luck. You need a good group for the projects, and you need to study the right chapters for the exam (which is not always clear). Participation is required, but he does not accept anyone's answers as correct or complete, which made everyone hesitant to answer. Good luck, you'll need it.
Worst marketing professor by a mile. Makes group project impossible to follow as guidelines are not clear at all. Only took his class because it was the only one availabale. Tests are also 50 questions long and you must read every single word on the textbook
Professor is very strict in grading and group projects are worth a lot of your grade. Tests are very difficult and he does not provide clear study guides. Good luck figuring out what to study because the test is nothing like the class unless you memorize the entire textbook and all the small details. Attendance is taken at random so go to class.
Not a lot of homework which is nice, but questions asked on homework do not resemble exam questions. The exams are extremely hard and he grades very tough on the group project. He also rarely gives class time to get together with your group which sucks if you have a hard time getting together with your group outside of class.
Where do I start with this teacher? First, he said he changed out he lectured because of the feedback he got last year, but in my opinion, he has not changed. Sure less homework, but his exams did not make sense because you would think it would be off his lectures but no. Also, in group projects, he's very unclear with his instructions. Good luck.
Professor Choi is a great lecturer that uses really good real world ex. However exams are in-person, attendance is strict, and he can be condescending if you answer incorrectly. Grading is moderate on the final group paper and presentation, but extra credit is given for attendance. Overall its a passable class but attendance is essential. 3.1/5
If you have the option to choose a diff. prof. please do!The exams are heavily graded and are super long scenarios that all sound the same. He provides lectures in class however isn't clear on the definition of terms, his response is always"It may be" "possibly"which leaves everyone in the class confused. The project an 8k word paper+ 15 min presen
I'm not sure what's going on with the negative reviews, but so far in the semester, it's been okay. Not too bad. His hw is not hard, and good. He's really engaging in class so I don't fall asleep there. Students in my class actually participate a lot bc how interactive he is. He seems enthusiastic about marketing too, which I like.
This class is quite challenging, but Unstuck ai can be a helpful study tool. The exams cover a lot of material, so staying on top of the textbook and group projects is key. Participation is mandatory, but the professor's grading can be unclear at times.
Everyone complaing about this professsor is simply lazy and only wants to take the easy route. Yes this class can be challenging and youll need to study and prepare for exams but thats what college is supposed to be. I had him last summer and I will graduate with him being my most informative and insightful professor. If you want to learn, take him
Exams are never discussed He never discuss scenarios in his lecture neither his hw Group project 2month in length and its for over 6000 words. The exams are very wordy and long. He never curve or give option of extra credit also that you are graded in your project based on group members rating to you, any miscommunication between group members=Fail
3 group presentations. Peer review after the final presentation only serves as a way to deduct points. You'd better pray you get teammates who don't thrive off of drama and aren't willing to give you a bad peer review just to sabotage you despite going above and beyond to meet their needs, otherwise you can say goodbye to 10% of your points.
I just finished my final and now am sitting in a bathroom crying because of how awful he is. Although he was so rude to me and my friends on so many occasions I still made the decision to just let it go. He will find the littlest reason to humiliate you in front of the class.
Worst professor I've had at Sac State. Never had a C on my transcript until this class. Exams are 50 questions with heavy reading. On final day, only gave 1 hr 15 min, couldn't finish, grade dropped from 82% to 71%. No grade rounding, no real extra credit. Snappy, closed-minded attitude. Avoid.
Tests are all multiple choice. 1 large group project at the end of the semester. Make sure you have a good group. Same group from the beginning to end of the semester. He doesn't always take attendance but he does every now and then. Prepare for case studies which are writing, debating, and answering questions in front of class.
worst professor ever the exams are literally 50% of our grades like literalyy wtf .i'm gonna be retaking this class because i didn't pass the last exam so project as 20% of the grade. participation/ quizzes/ attendance 30%. LMFAO GOOD LUCK
3 exams (lots of chapter reading). 3 group projects/ presentations. 15 quizzes. Peer review that's a huge % of ur grade (so make sure you get a good group 1st day). Attendance some days taken. He is nice and funny. Class wasn't too bad but if you get a bad group it'll feel like hell.
Professor Choi is very knowledgable in his field but his criteria for passing his classes are close to unmanageable. Having so many units otherwise, taking his class is very difficult. It doesn't help much that he expects you to figure out even when you ask for his help. If youre not passing his class he blames it on youre not taking good notes.
Don not take class with. It is hard to understand him and his Exams are tricky and not like the quizzes book and his slides. Does not matter how much you study or try or even participate in his OH still you can not get good grade. Disappointing.
Great professor who really knows the content he is teaching. Sit towards the front, esp for picking your group for group projects. Participate, it is graded at the end of the semester. Show up to class, and take good notes. His exams are tough but they follow his lectures closely. Utilize the Pearson study plan quizzes to review for exams.
