His accent is difficult to understand but he knows and cares about the needs of each individual student. Would highly recommend for any first years looking to ease into the workload of university.
Berry is a passionate prof. He makes the course interesting and purposeful . If you really want to learn economics he is your guy.
The worse econ proff. he is extremely disrespectful and rude. does not show respect to student and full of himself. would not recommend him if you're looking to pass the course.
As a first year student, I started the term with some trepidation and self -doubt, Berhanu really restore my confidence and inspired me to work hard and be responsible , thank you. He is truly the best prof I have so far.
Very nice, goes out of his way to help students who did not understand. I did not understand the way he taught and he often confused me more when he tried to help. Self-taught myself the class. The final is essentially optional.
Berry is a unique kind of prof. Lessons that I learnt in his class starts to make real sense now, he cares more about teaching than testing. He invest so much care and attention towards his students. just being in Berry's class is a pleasure and worth every penny and second of your time. Definitely recommend taking a class with him !!
Absolutely awesome prof. He is always thrilled to be in class for every lecture, his lectures were clear, and he taught with a ton of passion and energy. gives examples- examples that you can relate to. A lots of hints what's going to be on the exams, sometimes his questions are tricky, but great prof.
You ROCK Berry! thanks for amazing semester. I will take your courses anytime!
Berry is the best econ professor!!! Take any and all econ classes with him.
Lots of homework, but great willingness to help the students and is very easy to access outside class, through email or lab extra hours.
It was a blessing to have Berry as an ECON prof! If you have ECON 1101 with Berry, consider yourself very lucky!! He is very passionate about this subject. His grading system is an absolute treat. If you are struggling, don't hesitate to visit him in the lab -- he cares and he is more than willing to help you succeed!
Amazing prof. He genuinely cares about his students and their well-being. He is more than ready to answer any questions you have. Very accessible and easily approachable. Lectures are taught with passion and he will ensure you understand the material. Quizzes and online modules/assignments are very easy.
You can tell that he cares about his students, lots of tips and hints about exams. He inspire you to work harder and celebrate your success. Although friendly and very accessible, he can be strict at times; but marking is extremely fair. I find his course extremely interesting, challenging, and enlightening. Without a doubt, I will take the lesso
He is a great prof that is so caring and wants to get to know you personally. But it is a hard class so don't wait till the deadline to hand all your assignments in. I didn't use the textbook. Class notes has it all. Go to the ECON lab where he offers help because it is useful! If confused about anything ask him. Accent a little hard to understand
Berhanu has a thick accent that can be hard to understand. He cracks jokes and has fun, but the lectures are heavy and cover a lot, DO NOT SKIP. No midterm and optional final exam, but all 5 quizzes are worth 14% each. Mediocre toughness, and you can't go without studying. No extra credit, you get what you get.
If you have to take Microeconomics, that it with Berhanu, He's an inspirational teacher that will make you GET economics. Teaching is his passion and he makes sure you can get an A. I wish he taught all my subjects. He makes the content EASY. I'm not a 'math' person, but LOVED mico because of him.
Greatest econ professor you'll find anywhere! He cares about you more than you think, and you can find him inside the economics lab everyday in case you need any help about anything. Also a budget class, no $200 textbook, he prefers an e-text with assignment for a quarter of the price of a regular textbook. Great guy!
can be a little rude at times. he basically told my section that we were his dumbest class. he was an okay teacher, but i'd take this class with ambrose if you have the chance to.
I'm majoring in economics because of him! Thank you Prof Kebede
I had Berhanu for microeconomics and decided to take him for macroeconomics because he's great and I already know what to expect. If you want a good grade he knows It and will help you get it. He is very enthusiastic about the course, online assignments are easy, and tests are easy to prepare for b/c he gives lots of hints (go to class)--NICE GUY
Plain and simple Berhanu is one of the greatest professors I have ever had the experience of working with! He is so helpful, all he wants is for everyone to succeed, he does everything in how power to help you if you utilize the resources. He is so passionate and it really shows. 100/10 would take a class with him again.
Nice enough MOSt of the time and very knowledgable. He tends to try to rush through EVERYTHING in lectures which makes it hard to grasp concepts. Textbook & slides did not really correlate. My class had troubles understanding graphs (because of him rushing) and he consistently got mad slamming boards saying "this is what you're paying for".
Truly one of the best profs MRU has to offer. Very understanding, you can tell he genuinely cares about his students' success & well being! He offers a significant amount of help outside of the classroom, & he definitely notices those who come seek him out. If you show him you care, he will be more than happy to help you. Would easily take again!
Berhanu is by far the most committed prof that I have ever had. He goes above and beyond to make sure you do well if you're willing to put the effort in.
Berhanu is a living proof that there are professors who care about teaching. He is better at approaching subject matter and dealing with students than most teachers I've met, let alone professors. Awesome guy the most approachable guy you will meet.
Berry's a solid prof. Not likely to be most people's favorite, but he'll get you through. Being the lab instructor means he's easy to track down for extra help (which he's always happy to provide.) Only complaint is that there's content on the online assignments he doesn't talk about, and if you miss class the slides don't cover everything he does.
Berhanu is really passionate about teaching. He wants the best for his student and he really helps you succeed in his class. He puts in the effort to get to know his students too! (he bought us pizza for the last day of class!!!) But really, if anyone deserves an award for being the best professor, Berhanu is the most qualified prof.
Berry is a chill prof, as the econ lab instructor, he is easy to track down and ask for help. However, I found that he rushed through some of the course material towards the end of the semester which wouldn't be an issue if he did not spend an unnecessary amount of time on current events. Follow the study guide and study for quizzes A- minimum.
Truly Exceptional!!! The best experience I had had at MRU. You only need to bring the willingness to learn ,he will take care of the rest. Thank you Prof Kebde
A rarity at MRU. he's very very helpful and actually has a sense of humor. I give him my highest recommendations.
Nice guy, if you show efforts, easy A
Power points are not easy to follow, nor are his lectures. Better off reading the book and/or doing the Aplia material. VERY test/assignment heavy - 5 quizzes, Maple Module online quizzes, plus separate Aplia software which also has required quizzes. Not very approachable, gets frustrated when asked questions and scolds those who attend lab.
I heard about Berry' s reputation being a good Prof from batchmates before I enrolled in his class; it turns out everything I heard was absolutely correct but he really excelled my expectations. Great guy!!!
He's a great guy but I found his lectures are difficult to follow and in general sways in and out of topic. Overall I wouldn't take his class for macroeconomic again. If you're planning to take his class its best to say that you'll be on your own especially if you're struggling with the material because he struggles to explain the course content.
Berhanu is genuinely a generous prof with his time , passion ,and care. If you attend the class and listen to his hints and what he emphasis as important , it's pretty easy to do well in his course. So far one of the best Prof I ever had in my two years studies at MRU.
He is so respectful and gives good feedback.
Professor Kebede is an amazing person and educator, I m lucky to have him as my first prof. Have learned more than I expected. Will take everything he teaches. Thanks for inspiration
Even if he isn't your prof you go to his lectures. He makes the content crystal clear. Before every exam he gives excellent tutorial (optional) and answer question outside of class and office hours. He is definitely the most amazing prof I have encountered at MRU, so far. 110% would recommend
I had Berhanu for Micro Econ and decide to take Macro with him. Best decision I made!!Inspirational professor teaching everything from life-lessons to current and relevant economic issues. The lectures covers the basics, which is enough for the exams, while the homework digs deeper into the more difficult parts. Perfect setup to learn ! Enjoyed it
You gotta go take his class. Every time after his lecture I am completely in the mood to learn more. " After every class you should be able to explain what you just learned to someone who never took economics... otherwise come and see me day or night" He CARES!!!
Berry is an awesome prof. I had him on my first semester at MRU. He truly cares about his students and wants everyone to do well. His marking structure is the best one I have encountered, as he truly wants you to learn. He teaches Econ with passion. I would definitely take another class with him.
Would highly recommend. Engaging lectures and he is very passionate and wants students to succeed.
I had Berhanu for Macro last fall, decided to take his Micro ,as my first online course I started with some misgivings but I can't say enough how much I enjoyed his Micro, he is a real deal. Inspiring, kind and funny.
He is very good at what he does and he always has good examples for every concept. He is caring about your grade and wants you to succeed.
Berry is an awesome teacher and guy but online teaching is not his mojo. If you take macroeconomics be prepared for lots of lecture videos, a usual class is suppose to be an hour and twenty minutes but his lecture video for one class is usually 2-2.5 hours long so be prepared to watch 4-6 hours of videos every week and to do tons of lyrx questions.
Took the course online and it was horrible. It was asynchronous so there were prerecorded lectures on top of the scheduled classes, it felt like 2 classes. The teaching style definitely wasn't one that I could learn from, I felt like it was unclear and all over the place. Berhanu is understanding and there for you but be prepared to put in work.
A very nice person and a wonderful prof. Glad I have him for two econ courses. Too bad MRU doesn't offer a major in econ , I would continue taking his classes. Thanks for two great semesters!!!
Honestly my favourite prof. He generally wants you to succeed. I struggled a bit in his course, and expressed my concerns, and he was very helpful. His explanations are very clear and he makes micro Econ fun. I signed up for Macro econ with him next semester, and look forward to it!
I've always been of the opinion that the professors in the Economics wing of MRU are the weakest in the entire school, and Berry was the best of them. Unfortunately, he did not adjust well to online classes. His pre-recorded lectures are so hard to follow (I have no idea why he would continue to use a mouse for drawing, it was impossible to read).
He did not transition well to the online environment. His recorded lectures were often over 1.5hr and hard to follow, his in class explanations didn't help. Spent more time on his class than any other and didn't see that reflected. His mark distribution is tough(4 quizzes & paper or 3 quizzes, final test & paper) no chance to prove yourself
Berry is a great person, he is always available, personable and always willing to help you succeed. Online he has long taped lectures, but as long as you put in some effort, actually get engaged and try, he will make sure you succeed. He is very good about giving you opportunities to improve your understanding and grade!
He runs a very poor online class without very much in the way of help. he make you go to the lecture to listen to half the content and then the worst lecture video i have ever seen for the second half. and his teaching style leaves a lot to be desired.
Berhanu is a very nice guy and loves to have conversations with students. But, he's also a tough grader, if you don't watch his very lengthy lectures you most likely won't be able to understand most of the course and will have a hard time getting by.
Berhanu (or Berry) is a real gem at Mount Royal University. I HIGHLY recommend that you attend all classes. During his lectures he makes it clear what his expectations of knowledge are. He give you "HINTS" at what will be on the quiz, midterm, final. Berhanu is his own hype train. The energy that he brings to the classroom is unmatched.
Prof B Kebede is amazing. His lectures are very engaging, and he is very passionate about the topics he teaches. he is available all of the time outside of class (even late at night) and his examples and anecdotes in class make the lectures that much more interesting. He is so kind, and clearly wants to see his students succeed. 100/100.
Barry can talk about nothing for hours, and he does. His lectures are confusing and not relevant to the class material AT ALL. He will make you watch a two hour lecture video and then also expect you to come to class for another 1.5 hours to listen to the same thing. Then nothing he talking about is on the test and its a guessing game!
Berhanu is the best professor at MRU. This class wasnt a part of my major and I took it purely for my own interest, and Im so glad I took it with Berhanu. I might just end up minoring in Economics because of him!
This was a very fun class. Berhanu CARES!!! And knows how to make it both interesting and informative, which makes me always looking forward to attending the class. The information I learned from lectures really inspiring and open my eyes!
Barry is the most caring prof at MRU. His lectures are important to attend. He has mini homework questions at the end of class that are for participation marks. These are great for understanding the material. Barry is passionate about his students and goes the extra mile for extra help.
Professor Berhanu is a very average professor. He emphasizes how he is there to help you during the in-class time, but you email or ask him for help outside of class, and he seems all but interested in helping you. Both times I went to the Econ lab for help, Berhanu was listening to music while I was trying to ask him questions. 2/5
Very passionate and will try to give you the best grade
Horrible recorded lecture: hard to understand, messy mouse drawing. He did not explain concepts clearly and it sounded like he was talking about nothing at all. Never take this prof again
He is honestly such a caring prof and a very nice man, he just teaches in a very messy way. His lectures can oftentimes go on tangents which causes him to rush through certain topics and can be difficult to follow. His slides are also very messy, making studying hard. He is forgiving and passionate about his job, you can tell he cares!
I had the pleasure of being taught by Professor B Kebede. One of the things I appreciated most about his teaching style was the way he used plenty of examples to help explain complex models and concepts. I also really enjoyed the in-class exercises that he provided as they were an excellent grade booster.I highly recommend Professor Kebede
Berhanu is a fantastic prof. I have never had a prof that is so dedicated to his students' success. He always encourages everyone to come see him outside of class to get extra help, he offers extra lectures and labs outside of class, and he even brought tim hortons doughnuts for our test days.
This is one of the most excellent profs I've had so far. I will recommend him for ECON 1103 and ECON 1101.
Professor Kebede is an amazing prof and really cares for his students success in his class. If you're willing to show up, be engaged in class and pay attention, this class is an easy A. Would highly recommend taking a class with Berhanu!
He's a great professor, you need to try his class and you will get an A! He really cares about his students and wants them to succeed.
Awesome Econ teacher! Cares about the success of his students and has interesting lectures!
Wonderful professor! I found the material is a bit abstract, but he's very good at explaining concepts and making the information comprehensible. VERY willing to help students with questions. His exams were easy, with absolutely amazing gardening schemes. You can even opt-out from writing the final. Prof B Kebede is the ONE!
Marvelous professor! I found the material a bit abstract but he's very good at explaining concepts and making the information comprehensible.VERY willing to help students with questions. His exams were easy and lots of help to prepare for it. With an amazing grading scheme, which allows you to opt-out of writing, the final. B Kebede is the ONE!
I took my first online course in the spring semester with Professor Kebede. The course was enjoyable, well-structured, and had weekly updates and quizzes. The lecture videos were also helpful. When I needed help, the professor was patient and assisted me online. It was a great semester with an excellent professor!
Beranu is an absolutely amazing and considerate prof. lectures are fascinating and well done and he is very caring towards his students (He brought us Timbits ) I have had really tough times this semester but he was willing to give me a break when I struggled. Very CARING!!!
This professor is really good at explaining things even without prior knowledge about the topic. He also really cares about his students and a generous marker. His class is very engaging, his class is probably the best introductory class ever, but like all other it is very important to out effort to be able to succeed in this class.
He is a good prof for this class. He gives a lot of opportunities to help boost your grade. If you put in the effort and ask him for help when unsure, he can help you and ensure you get the grade you want. He uses PowerPoint to teach the content.
TAKE THIS PROF! He is so caring about all of his students, does a good job teaching and gives loads of opportunities to get a higher grade. I have taken other econ profs and he is the best. This class is very difficult but he makes it much much easier
Berry is a great prof, he is very helpful to his students and genuinely wants the best for them. He strongly encourages students to go to the lab. He is very helpful at explaining concepts in the lab and in class. He gives lots of practice problems for students to use and his tests are very easy. He also brings donuts on test days. take this class!
I overall liked Berhanu his lectures were easy to understand and he explains topics really well. He does extra credit little mini quizzes the final is optional. The only reason why he isn't a five is because he never explained till the day before the labs were due that you need to get an 80% or higher otherwise you get a 0 and its worth 5 percent.
One of the best profs in the school. He does his best to ensure you succeed and provides very clear grading criteria: 4 quizzes, 20% each (he tells you which topics will be on them), easy in-class assignments worth 15% based on that day's lecture, and Lyryx labs worth 5%. The final is optional, and he even brings doughnuts on quiz days!
Berhanu has been my favorite professor at MRU. His willingness to give his students a second chance by giving various bonus marks for quizzes goes unmatched. He is clear in his lectures and makes them engaging and understandable. He actually helped me LEARN rather than remember. Amazing professor.
Over all good teacher, gives bonus marks so be locked in for when they come. Will also provide hints on possible quiz questions. Attendance is mandatory and worth 15%. Would recommend!
Tests are super straightforward and he tells you exactly what's going to be on them. His bonus and in- class exercises are like free marks. On test days he brings donuts for everyone. Would do everything he can to make sure you succeed in class, overall one of the best profs at MRU.
a very amazing prof. I am one of those students that get very anxious for tests and this class is all about that with 4 tests and in class participation counting ur grades. I did so bad on the first 2 quizzes and fully expected my final grade to be B- but Berhanu helped me so much when I came in for labs so I definitely recommend as he is so caring
Berry is by far my favourite prof at MRU. I took him for macro and this guy went above and beyond with the course. He went in depth on topics, spent plenty of time going over the math related to each thing, with plenty of practice both in and out of class, and made the final optional as long as you met him halfway in effort and did well on quizes.
Berhanu is a genuine professor! His care and respect for his students are unmatched. Extremely flexible with deadlines and deferred quizzes. He wants you to learn and pass the course with an excellent grade. I always submitted the in-class exercises late because of my work schedule, but he has been very accommodating. Thank you.
Prof. Kebede is the rare kind of teacher, he is passionate, caring and amazingly inspiring. This is my second attempt on the same course, I never thought that I will be able to enjoy and succeed taking it again. He is the best of all the profs I ever had. His grading scheme is designed to accommodate situations the students may encounter. He cares
