Professor is ok. Can do a better job of explaining things. I had a networking class with another instructor & those concepts helped a lot.
The instructor followed the Cisco curriculum and textbook for this routing protocols course which requires a solid foundation in networking to understand the concepts. She provided at least three different ways to understand these concepts using Power Points, hands on and videos. She strongly encouraged us and I got a certificate and letter
She really helped me learn how to do TCP / IP and subnetting and spent a lot of time explaining, showing and demonstrating how to do IP addresses
Not a terrible professor but the class as a whole didn't really function as a class. She helped out and all but it was just really weird.
She really covered all of the required material for the Cisco Certification Exam. I took the CCNA and got 93%!!!
I learned a lot
In CCNA I, she spent a lot of time showing us how to do subnetting using at least three different ways. In CCNA II, there was a lot more hands on applications.
In CCNA I, she showed us a variety of ways to do subnetting that was not covered in the textbook or CCNA curriculum. CCNA does not have PowerPoints but interactives. In CCNA II, she still did all of the curriculum but LOTS more hands on activities not covered by Cisco. You need to attend class AND read the materials on D2L.
There are no PowerPoints in the Cisco curriculum only an interactive but she also does a lot of group activities and videos. She showed us THREE different ways to do IP addressing and subnetting. These were not in the textbook or in any PowerPoints.
This class does not have PowerPoints and neither did CCNA I. Cisco has a specific curriculum but the instructor added a lot of materials to help our class understand subnetting and IP addressing for routing protocols. She showed us several different ways to do this
Wow! There is a lot to learn. She spent a lot of time doing subnetting and masking. Great job!
I just took this course and glad I had her to explain subnetting.
It was a great class that covered a lot of information which should have been covered in a basic networking class. I am so glad she was very helpful and patient.
This was a great class. She went through all of the tutorials with us in class!
The best time to ask for help is after a lecture
I've never had a teacher as good as her, she's absolutely great teacher, she manage to make a 4 hour class a breeze, I wish there's more teachers like her.
She really spent a lot of time with the packet tracers and other lab activities. I had never seen a router or switch before in my life.
She helps you with all the hands on and packet tracers while trying to help you do the subnetting
Online course. Passed with an A and did all the work in the last week. Taken her twice and got A's in both. She's nice and I like the way she runs her courses.
This was a great online class. She provided a lot of information, PowerPoints and other projects for the class. Each chapter had a quiz but it was not bad, because she provided sufficient due dates and attempts.
She helped everyone study for the Microsoft Certification Exams and then gave us the Certifications in class without charge -- I passed :) She said for each class I take I can get another certification so I am going to get all of them including Cisco Certs with her
She provides a lot of hands on experience like you would get working in the real world and makes sure you understand how it might be if you start working in this field. I really learned a lot about computers and computer hardware in her classes. We made cables, we made networks, we made a lot of stuff
McAllister will set you up for success. Just make sure you FINISH ALL the online homework as this will make your whole grade. she is lenient, friendly and helpful to all students. Just finish the online part of the class and you shall get a straight A.
If you pass the Certiport 98-366: MTA: Networking Fundamentals exam that she gives the second week of class you automatically get an A, and do not have to attend class. If you google "Microsoft Virtual Academy - Networking Fundamentals" you will find the website she says to use as a study tool. The test is to gage your knowledge about networking.
She is a great teacher providing a lot of hands on activities. She makes sure she covers all of the course materials. Pay attention. What she says in class repeatedly means that it will be on the exam.
A very effective teacher who follows the CCNA materials to a T! She makes the class seem really simple and gives us a lot of hands on activities. I am glad she showed us supplemental materials and information on where to find everything to help me learn and pass the CCNA -- I passed the first time! After taking this one class :)
I wish that all my professors would be like her , take her if you want easy A
She assigned lots of hands-on work, but never helped us out, while the students taught each other. Class does not guarantee a shot at the A+ exam, and you really need to teach yourself throughout. Work is easy, and she is kind, but she never seemed to have a clue what was going on tech-wise.
We did a lot of real life things!
She gave lots of hands-on, pointing us in the right direction wo taking over. Study hard, quizzes are identical to A+ certification. Do all handson there are lots of them & stay focused. Work is easy, she is nice, she loves hardware & will take everything apart to see the latest tech EHDs, CRTs, iRobot, lap tops, UPS, shredder, AMDs & Intel!
Absolutely outstanding professor.
She really cares about her students and tries to help the students learn all of the materials in the class; she showed us where to get additional assistance and a tutor.
Gives good lecture notes and plenty of time to finish all assignments. With a person that has memory issues, she definitely helps make it better for students with disabilities.
She helped us build I-5s and AMDs while walking us through each and every component. She also gave us the opportunity to take several FREE certification exams. She is extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. She encourages everyone to succeed. Take her classes.
Her knowledge and skills shined through. She walked us through building computers with the skill of a professional. Her 35 plus years working at General Motors, Detroit Public and the US Department of Education were clearly evident. Great teacher who will help you every step of the way
This was a great class that seems to be a foundation for all of my CIS classes. She gave us access to Microsoft to take FREE certification exams with her and get FREE software. I am now MCSE certified because of her assistance. Take her if you get the chance.
this teacher knows her stuff and will help you to learn it too take her if you want to learn networking with hands on tools and equipment
She lectures at least the first hour and a half of class showing and explaining all the components of a computer. She has a lot of demonstrations to show issues and problems prior classes have encountered. She spent a lot of time explaining all of the tools used for tearing down, fixing and building a PC. We built two computers but repaired more
This is a hands on class but she provided so much instruction and information. She spent almost the entire class going over tools and materials just for making cables. There is too much information and she suggested if we are really interested another class covers more. Great teacher!
She made Visual Basic a breeze- and enjoyable too. She has a great sense of humor and wants her students to succeed. If you take her course, you can also get certifications in Windows apps for free!
Nice caring teacher who is certified and provides free tests to students. She makes sure we study first before taking any certification tests.
Great instructor who really cares about students. She understands Operating Systems and students.
I needed this class to complete my degree in Tech Science and I wish I'd known about Bernadette earlier! Amazing Professor when it comes to grading work - and providing real world career feedback. You're going to be self-teaching ALOT but it's okay, everything's broken down and is really easy to take in. If you miss class - all work is online!
We did a lot of real hands on using real equipment and even made cables in class.
Great SQL instructor. I learned a lot from the lectures and videos.
She really understands CIS and web pages.
Great teacher who has a lot of experience. We made cables, used real equipment and did a lot of fun hands on activities.
This is a group project class and she gave us time to work in groups.
This class was based on discussions, quizzes, and 4 projects. Very EASY class, I can't believe more than half the class dropped. She is very knowledgable and nice. Lectures once a week. Overall, it was a very enjoyable class, especially if you like real-world projects. I WILL def. take her again. 100% recommended :D.
We did a lot of hands on learning. We made cables. We had a lot of fun. I really enjoyed her classes.
Grades on attendance but they have repeatedly messed up taking attendance, lecture consists of 4050 minutes of aimless rambling that eventually just stops (this is a 3 hour class). Assigned wrong book, quizzes are based on the book's literal text. Most of the class is impenetrably vague discussion boards and infantile flashgame projects.
Best professor! Would take again
I took this class to study for the CCNA; I actually took all four classes for the CCNA at OCC. I passed the CCNA because of this professor's knowledge and attention to detail. I could not have done it without her.
This teacher does not grade on attendance which is great because I am a high school student dual enrolled for this course! She did great lectures with a lot of people participating, particularly a student in the back row. She let us explain our background and knowledge too. It was a lot of fun for me to take this college class with her.
AVOID taking her online class at all class. terrible learning experience. All she did was posting PowerPoint presentations that we had to study from and read chapters of the book without any video lectures or zoom meetings. she doesn't explain anything you have to do all the work alone and look up videos online to help you understand the material.
She had a Zoom meeting the first day of class and is available to meet by Zoom any time you want,. She even met with me to assist in learning the materials. All Power Point lectures are original materials with lots and lots of notes which she narrates. There are also over 50 audios and lots and lots of videos to help you learn.
Awful professor with the worst online class set-up. There are no lectures! just powerpoint slides!! and you're supposed to learn everything by yourself from the internet because this whole course is absolutely worthless.. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
I am currently taking CIS 1600 with her, She opens up the whole class so we basically can do all the quizzes, discussions, and module activities early. Quizzes are pretty easy(3 attempts total), discussions:you have to post and reply to 2 students by the class time. Activities are fun and interesting. Very fair grader and easy to get hold of!
She's really nice and caring, replies to emails, and grades super fast. BUT if I'm gonna rate this class in particular in an online setting it's gonna be a generous 3/10 It's easy to pass this class, but you're not going to LEARN anything useful. If you're taking it for credit, it's a good match 4 u, but if you want to learn then look elsewhere.
About six weeks into the class this professor just stopped uploading the power points so I had to go out and find the information all for myself. It would be fine if there was a mandatory textbook but there is not. Also, half way through the class she changed the due dates of the quizzes before the scheduled class dates without any warning.
Easy A, take her!
Prof Mcallister made this class very easy and accessible by opening up the entire class on D2L. Quizzes we got 3 attempts, Discussion(Post first, then reply to two other students post before class times), Assignments are pretty interesting to do also. She is a fair grader also. Would love to take another class with her if I needed too.
Great prof. She is engaging and likes to have fun with her class. She also appreciates participation.
This is a super easy class and the textbook only has four chapters but the grading is project based. She made videos for the lectures and the projects. All you have to do is pause the video for the projects and type it in Notepad and you have the entire answer to each and every project. Easy peasy.
This is a really great professor. She is caring, engaging and likes to have fun with her class. She also appreciates participation and all the materials are right there on D2L so you can work ahead.
This was a super easy class. There are step by step videos that if you pause you can just see the answer and type it up. So simple. Easy.
There were only four chapters in the textbook and she provided videos for all the chapters plus she made videos for each of the assignments. All I had to do was pause the video and just type everything up in notepad, save it as a dot html and submit it! Awesome
Reading the ratings there are some who did not take her classes. Attendance isn't required & isn't graded, there are no participation points or participation grade. All assignments listed w/due dates the 1st day. I took 4 of her classes & will take more as I am learning a lot hands on. If you did not learn, that is on you not the teacher.
Easiest A I've ever got. Didn't learn much. *Shrugs* She's very nice.
This class has a group project but there are a lot of videos that walk you through the group project
Content was organized but assignments were not. The professor contradicted herself all semester. Yes, all of the quizzes/material was available up front, but the assignments had different dates than where you would find them in the content. You had to be weeks ahead in order to know what was going on. Group assignments in an online class is a bust!
Content was organized & all assignments listed in order. All quizzes & material available up front & everything had due dates in class calendar too. She gave a lot of detailed info & put us into groups after completing 3 individual assignments. There were over 50 videos to help w/assignments. It was much better than the other prof I had for CIS1200
All assignments are arranged in order with due dates listed on the calendar which I linked to my cellphone. It was very clear from day one and she was very clear in her expectations and grading. She graded everything promptly throughout the semester and met via Zoom when I needed a demonstration and assistance. She was on campus to meet in person.
She knows a lot about networking, cybersecurity & IT. She explains a lot & has everything laid out the 1st day. No textbook is required but several are recommended. She is available to meet in office or class to use actual equipment. This is a great teacher who is really interested in seeing you succeed. No bones about it.
Content was organized w/assignments in modules & listed in the calendar. The professor provided clear & easy to follow instructions all semester. All quizzes/material was available up front & assignments had due dates where you could find them in the content. You could call, email or leave a discussion message for her and she answered right away.
Content well organized w dates & assignments under Assignment tab. All quizzes, discussions, assignments & material available 24/7 1st day & listed on a calendar linked to my smart phone. Assignments have due dates listed in Content & Calendar. Anyone puzzled just cannot read a calendar or watch a video. Everything was so straightforward.
There is a group project but if you need assistance, she will either meet with you personally or do a Zoom meeting which was nice because my stupid group member kept doing and submitting the wrong thing even though we told him it was not right. She let us resubmit the correct diagram.
She's great, and one of the best CIS professors I've ever had. I've taken 3 classes with her, now, and each one has been better than the last. She's very much human, super understanding, and her material is stuff that is actually helpful and applicable. Assignments can be a lot, but they follow what is being learned perfectly.
This class does have a group project but she met the group in person and Zoom to make sure everyone understood everything. There was one student in the group who would do all kinds of work and submit without showing the group, but she helped stop him from doing that and would allow the group to resubmit. I would definitely take her again.
D2L opened a week early, so I was able to start early and she did not mind. There is a group project but because I finished everything early, she put me in a group with other people who finished early. I would definitely take her again as she is highly organized and very clear on what she is grading or looking for
Easy grader and is incredibly easy in an asynchronous setting. Very encouraging and understanding.
Very good instructor. Patient and clear about expectations. Human. Extra credit is available. Resources are plentiful. She takes an interest in your career. I would take a class with her again.
Straightforward courses that are very organized and easy to follow. lots of material.
Online class was very organized. I would take her again. She lets you access all work upfront which is a plus so you can work at your own time.
Content & Assignments & D2L all very organized. There are 7 assignments with clear due dates in D2L available one week before class starts. After completion of the individual assignments, students work in groups to complete a Microsoft SQL Project that has 7-8 assignment links to show completion. The most highly organized teacher I have ever had.
This class has an online group project. She personally called me to discuss the group project to ensure we understood the project and how to complete the project. D2L was well organized with Assignments available the first day of class. I saw and heard no contradictions.
If you cannot follow D2L or instructions, then you probably will never succeed in college. Her classes are well organized, with all material available the first day of class AND she will call you to assist if she thinks you are struggling.
Wowser! We were working on a group project with five assigned to the group. Only two members participated and the teacher called us to help us with the project! So awesome. What a great teacher.
If you're taking ANY computer classes at OCC, I'd highly recommend this professor, especially online. If you're the type that cannot learn without speaking with a professor every week, then you may need a different one. But if you're like me, who enjoys getting the content and working at their own pace, then you should take this professor!
This professor's grading criteria is very clear. As long as you complete assignments on time and follow the instructions, you'll do well. Additionally, she was readily available to address questions, typically responding by the following day. Lastly, there us one group project and she groups you based on when you submit assignments. Take her!!!!
As long as you complete assignments on time and follow the rubrics, you'll do well. There were weekly discussion posts, quizzes and 4 projects on the main units. She always gives feedback on your projects and also gives examples as to what they should look like. As long as you put in the time studying, this class is an easy A!! I recommend her!
The weekly labs are just pertaining to research for getting into Computer Security. I actually found this class very easy and interesting! I learned lots of cool stuff that I shared with family and friends, and it made me excited for my future career. Quizzes are only 10 questions and you can retake them up to 3 times and she takes the best score!
Professor McAllister is very down-to-earth and an easy grader. She challenges you to think critically about the subject material in a way that doesn't seem overwhelming or difficult. Her feedback is both personal and insightful and I would recommend her as a teacher in any course she offers. I have had her 3 times and would take her classes again.
I love her sense of humor and her method of bonding with her students. She is awesome at teaching because she really cares about the students and most importantly, the students' grade. Super easy class and it really helps you.
The instructor provides a lot of notes and information for each weekly module. The class uses Microsoft Learn to earn achievement badges which is great!
This is the best CIS instructor at OCC. She is fun, very knowledgeable, takes time to help everyone. Her course is so well planned.
I've taken a couple of classes with her & always find them interesting and useful. She provides plenty of resources for labs and organizes the information well. Extras like optional links are helpful, and she's accommodating if you're honest about emergencies/issues. I also appreciate her adding text versions of lectures for accessibility.
She is very helpful and caring. She tries really hard to help everyone understand and learn.
She uses Microsoft so everyone gets achievement trophies and awards from Microsoft for the class which has a group project.
I've learned absolutely nothing so far. The professor is incredibly condescending and will take points off for trivial nonsense. It's funny considering she can't even seem to get her own facts straight. The class is an easy A if you're willing to deal with the annoyance of her awful personality.
Professor McAllister's CIS1200 class is highly organized with clear assignments and great support. I found unstuckstudy and the course textbook super helpful for preparing. Engaging lectures and attentive professor make this an easy A.
I've learned a lot about systems analysis and design. The professor is incredibly sharp and polite. She will call you or meet with you on campus to help you understand the materials. She has a great caring personality and it shows in this online class.
This is a great class to learn about SDLC and diagramming, as well as how to respond to typical job interview questions. There are only three projects: one is to write a paragraph supporting your position, the second is creating diagrams and the third is to create a checklist. I learned a lot about what to expect to do in the real world.
I am not sure what personality clash an instructor would have in an online class. She was great and very understanding about late assignments but told us we had to put a comment in Blackboard not email as the college requires the comment in Blackboard. If you were having a hard time with diagraming she would meet on campus or by Zoom.
This is a great teacher who definitely has a lot of patience and understanding when teaching you how to draw a diagram using software, any software as long as it is software.
Professor McAllister is a very personable professor. She is very supportive and will help you if you have any questions. I took her online CIS 1600 Cybersecurity course and loved it! The class was laid out so nicely and easy to follow with defined deadlines. Highly recommend Professor McAllister!
She uses the comments to communicate and her comments show she really cares. She has a great understanding of IT and it shows.
I really enjoyed this class. It wasn't an easy class by all means but what made it helpful was the professor being extremely thorough & informative about everything. I had no problem when it came to understanding because of the class was organized & well structured. The amount of info & resources for the assignment were extremely helpful to learn.
This class was challenging but very informative. If you are taking this and CIS 1300 together, be prepared to complete 6 assignments, plus one discussion post each course and you must respond to at least two peers in order to receive full credit. Overall, she's a great instructor. Grades fast! & responds to emails quickly during business hours.
