Excellent lectures, very clear and in order
boring as hell,
I took his 20th Century History class Spring Quarter and he was awesome! He's such a great teacher! I plan on taking as many history classes that he teaches until I transfer at the end of spring!
he was a well prepared and very interesting teacher. if you like history you will do well
I took philosophy 100 with this instructor and I found that he was very clear when discussing the different topics and fair in regards to grading papers. Took him a little longer to grade the papers than I liked but overall a very good instructor.
Interesting, and clear. Apparent that he likes history through his enthusiasim and engaging demeanor.
Awesome instructor. I highly recommend Dr. Comeau. Always well prepared, and very knowlegable. Easy to talk to, and always willing to help when needed.
Worst teacher EVER!I am a senior graduating this year from high school so I am doing Running Start and I had been asking him for a month about taking my final early so it wouldn't interfere with graduation. He agreed and then the DAY OF hes like um no I won't have time to make the test before class today. WTF? Maybe you should do your job buddy?
This teacher is quirky and pretty easy. The only things i'm having trouble with are the essays. The daily quizzes are easy and barely worth anything (but still do them) and the terms quizzes are alright just pay attention to what he repeats in class. He's french canadian, if you were wondering.
Lectures are really good, and the online tests are ok, sometimes there are tricky ones where you really have to pay attention. The only thing i really hate is that for tests he expects you to know all the material that's he's covered in class instead of giving an area of the information to focus on. AND be prepared to READ READ READ!
Dr. Comeau is a good instructor, but he tends to allow off-topic discussion from students during lectures. Although, I did learn a lot from his class. Exams are not easy, but not impossible either. He expects 2 five-page papers a quarter and daily internet assignments. Be prepared to read a lot! He is a nice and soft-spoken man.
Mr. Comeau inspired a passion for history, a subject i never really cared for. He gets excited to talk about the debating parts of America's history and always allows for a discussion of the debate. He grades the tests and essays pretty harshly, but its easily possible to get an A. you just need to give him what he's looking for.
Amazing prof. Always takes in the effects on and opinions of non-mainstream viewpoints throughout history. not traditionally sexy, but my friends and I couldn't stop thinking about him...
Great teacher. Its a lecture class and he is good at it. He engages students in discussions. His tests are easy and straight forward. He gives daily very easy 5 question online quizzes for homework, and there are two essays throughout the quarter. I highly recommend him
Dr. Comeau is an all around great professor. Really good lectures. Covers a lot of material in the class. A lot of reading. Tests cover entire chapters, so you need to study notes a lot. Good teacher to go to if you really want to learn the material.
Loved this teacher! The class is almost entirely lecture, but he is great at it. He rights out everything you need to know on the board as he talks so as long as you pay attention you will do good in his class. He also welcomed questions and answered them well. A++ teacher!!!
I loved taking classes with Comeau! He's so passionate about what he's teaching and he makes it really interesting. He's a likable teacher but he expects you to know the material very well. Attendance isn't required but he covers a lot in class and tests are ALL note based, so read, show up, take notes, and study the key points in your notes.
This class was very informative and rather easy. There is a lot of reading, but never any pop - quizes. He is very forgiving in the grades that you get. He drops your lowest test score and paper, which provides a you with a get out of jail free card if you need it. Although the tests can be a little hard, as long as you study this class is great!
He is generally a great teacher. I learned a lot from his class. The exams were difficult, but if you study you will have no problems. It is easy to see that he really cares about what he is teaching.
He is a good teacher and knows exactly what he's talking about. In-class quizzes are pretty hard, but if you study you should do alright.
He is a great teacher. His papers are graded strictly but other than that his class is fairly easy. show up, take notes, go home, read assigned reading, take online quiz. Every 2 weeks you'll have an in class quiz but if you study its cake.
What a great class, very informative and interesting. Mostly lecture, but he's good at it. This can't be considered an easy class, but if you do the work, you will get rewarded.
Dr. Comeau's courses are the way you want to learn this material. The workload is challenging, but reasonable; lectures are fast-paced, but still incredibly flexible so as to accommodate lively discussion. He is both authoritative and well-spoken, but still humble and approachable. I promise I'm not kissing this guy's butt; he's just that awesome!
Comeau is very knowledgeable and passionate about a wide range of feilds. He always made lectures fun and interesting, I loved his classes. If you put in a little effort you will get a lot out of his course.
Classes are all lecture but engaging, and he's very helpful and a nice guy. He is a little too nice to manage a classroom well, though: some people were being really disruptive pretty much all quarter. Two papers, a few easy in class quizzes. Overall, you'll learn a lot and enjoy his classes.
His lectures for the entire class but they can be pretty engaging. The online tests can be confusing but he will hear you out if you can support another answer. Easy class if you go to class and study the notes for an hour the night before the quizzes. In depth explanation of material.
Unlike 146, 147 was tough. Super easy lectures, but EXTREMELY hard grading. Essays and quizzes if you did a great job you would get a C. First C in college.
Man, I love this guy. He reminds me of Kevin Costner :D
Prof. Comeau is an amazing teacher! I took his class for both HIST 147 and 148. There are 5 in-class quizzes and there is no final for his class! But attendance is very important because on the quizzes, he tests you on what you went over in class -not what you read. He keeps the class very interesting and really gets you thinking! Recommended 100%
Dr.Comeau is a great teacher. He doesn't take attendance, but 58% of your grade is on your in-class quizzes and he makes the quizzes from things he talks about in class; not the book. Overall he is a great teacher and is easy to work with. He does not show any influence to his religious beliefs in teaching religious history whatsoever. Great guy!
Great teacher but gives a lot of work. Online quizzes every day, small but with a lot of reading. In class quizzes are pretty tough as well and hard to study for. Great guy, but you do the work of a 10 credit class.
Great Guy. Not a very good inspiration for history, though. Wouldn't recommend for 100 level class. A lot of reading, put forth extra effort to even get a B. Papers are based on topics you haven't even covered before they're due.pretty much reading and teaching yourself. Quizzes are based on "writing down everything you know" from the lecture.
Interesting class, however very very tough grader. I don't think anyone could get an A in his class. I got my only C (C-) in this class. Mainly lectures, daily homework quizzes. Toughest grader I have had .
The nicest Prof. you could ask for. Comeau is incredibly helpful and very personable. The man is just so darn approachable. I would certainly take one of his classes again.
Dr. Comeau was a pretty good teacher. I am not interested in history and only took the class for a credit i needed. The class itself was fine, you learn a lot. There is homework every day (a reading and an online quiz) that is easy. The hardest part is the in-class quizzes. If you pay attention and take good notes you will do great in this class.
fairly easy online daily quizzes based on textbook reading. Bi-weekly tests based on lectures - take good notes - get good grades. Fairly interesting and knowledgeable. Don't try to slop together your papers! Pick you own topic from what is covered in class instead of using one he provides.
Bernard is amazing. He lectures A LOT, but goes in-depth. There is a reading you have to do every morning with a 5 question multiple choice quiz. They are extremely easy. If you take notes in class, more than just what he writes on the board, you will pass the tests; they are knowledge based. There are two essays. Pay attention and you'll pass.
Used to play (and lose)a game in class called "stump Comeau." It is literally impossible to ask him a question about history that he can't answer. Expect to do a lot of work, but nothing difficult, and to learn as much as you ever wanted to about history and then some. He does have some issues with classroom management, but all around great guy.
as long as you stay up on the reading, and take the mini online test everyday, your golden. he gives a prety good study guide too. I recommend him. he is interesting
Comeau is my favorite professor at TCC. I've taken both History 146 and 147 with him. His classes are always so interesting. I always look forward to his classes. I would definitely take his class again!
Honestly, I really struggled with this class. The way he teaches is not my learning type of way. I'm more of a visual learner but the way he teaches is more for listening learners only. Too many tests overall in this class which was overwhelming. He is a very tough grader. He knows his stuff though, very intelligent professor.
I love Comeau! I don't like history, but I love this class. He knows so much - can answer and question. Very interesting lectures. Go to class or you won't pass. Tests are based on lectures in class. I studied for about 30 minutes for each and did well. Quizzes on textbook reading before every class. Discussion posts online too. Would take again!!!
pretty good
History classes depend a lot on the teacher, and Comeau makes history a great experience. He lectures in a way that is easy to understand and is interesting to follow. Tests are on what is covered in class. Assigns a lot of reading but you can get by with a good grade without reading everything. Would take this class again!
Very good teacher! Is very passionate about history, and will make history sound interesting and exciting. Highly recommend taking him if you want to study this subject. Made me love history even more than I did already!
Just take good notes because the quizzes are all on his lectures. Final paper is not too hard if you start working on it a month before the due date.
All of the quizzes in class are from his lectures so it's important to be in class all the time. Start on your research paper a month in advance and you will pass this class.
Dr. Comeau is intelligent, funny, organized, knows his material, interesting, and tough. He gave 4 in-class essay quizzes, and 1 research paper. The class was well run, with good discussion and interesting lectures. Online quizzes on reading multiple times a week, and a graded discussion. Highly recommend this class to everyone.
Very helpful and nice guy. There is a lot of homework though, be ready for a discussion and quiz due before every class. There were four in class quizzes, but he dropped our lowest quiz score at the end of the quarter. Really tough grader though. Also a research paper- don't procrastinate it!!
In this class, you really just go to lectures a few times a week. On canvas, you do discussions and 5 question quizzes before every class meeting. There is a research paper that you should get a head start on if you can. Only 4 quizzes the quarter but he drops the lowest score. He is passionate about history. Easy to contact & responds quickly.
He is a tough grader. when I participate this class, I literally know nothing about the US history, he does help me a lot in gaining information. However, the class quite made me feel sleepy because he just talking and not much visual pictures. All Homeworks must be done on time if you want to get full credit.
His lectures are boring but he cares more about history than anyone else I've ever met. He gives hard tests. He gives you a term or name and you have to define it and give it's historical significance. One test the average grade was 55% and he doesn't curve. But he will drop your lowest test score. There's a lot of homework but it's consistent.
Teacher was so-so, but the course itself invited intense bias among peers. This wouldn't normally be a problem, except the course required constant group participation. This left us constantly struggling with subjects entirely untrue or unrelated to the material at hand, making the course ineffective in actually teaching us.
He is super passionate about what he does and really gets in depth. Participating helps a lot in this class.
I'm a Straight-A Running Start student, and I did very well in this class. Professor Comeau really made the material interesting and very clear. He is a very understanding and nice professor. You can tell he really loves what he does.
I took this class in Winter of 2015. I absolutely HATE history and it is definitely my worst subject. Comeau is amazing and wonderful and made the lectures into stories rather than just dates and events to remember. I rave about and recommend him to everyone. He is phenomenal. Tests are mixed long/short answer. I think there are 5 Qs on each test.
Homework every night. Homework is fairly easy, if you can stay on top of it. Lots of reading for the class, there's no way you'll pass without the book. Tough grader on tests. Lectures every day, pretty long and also pretty boring. Overall a good class though, not many complaints.
As a history major I've had my fair share of history teachers. Dr. Comeau is one of the best history teachers I've ever had. You'll need to work, but it's not unmanageable. I have non history friends who are taking this class who are doing just fine. You don't need to love history to enjoy his upbeat class! Also, VERY approachable. Highly suggest.
Pretty easy, i never really paid attention but still got an A-
He is a great teacher! Some of his quizzes were kind of tough, but if you read the book, you will do great!
Very great person. Loved his class in general. Homework pretty much every night. The only issue I had was I did very poorly on the tests because he is a very tough grader and there is a lot of reading. You will need to retain a lot of knowledge to do good on the tests. Very passionate teacher, was very awesome. Would recommend this class.
Very structured, but leaves a lot of responsibility to the student. 6-8 page research paper, 4 tests, and no final. Discussion boards are pretty easy if you put in the effort to read the material, but it took me an average of 2 hours to read and complete each one (3 per week). Lectures the whole class time. Extensive notes are a must.
I enjoyed Professor Comeau's class because I always knew what to expect. He gives weekly quizzes online, and discussion questions. He also gives 4 essay-style quizzes throughout the quarter. If you get the homework done on time, take good notes, and study, you will do well.
Comeau was the best professor that I took at TCC. He gave a lot of readings, there was a lot of work, but if you put in the effort, you can get an A.
Comeau is an AMAZING professor! I took 4 classes with him because I love his teaching style so much. He is very passionate about his teachings and is very helpful. His exams deal with what is taught in class rather than the textbooks so I recommend going to class.
Easily top 3 favorite profs. He was so passionate and lively during lectures and would get excited when students asked questions. Always has a smile on his face. There was a decent amount of reading, but online quizzes for those were 5 questions and his in class tests covered only what he went over in lecture. Take good notes and you're good to go!
Took in 2015. Comeau has passion. Quick email answers. His lectures are VERY clear; no accent. Two 5-page papers, in-class quiz every other Monday, and weekly online discussions. 75% attendance got me a B-, since the quizzes require the lecture material, but he didn't grade on attndc. Many of his classrooms are cramped with uncomfortable chairs.
Professor Comeau is a really good teacher. I wasn't sure about him at first, but he is kind and respectful of students - he doesn't interrupt when they are asking questions, even if the questions are super long and drawn out. The homework was basic - a discussion and quiz (5 questions based solely on the reading) - and he was not hard to please.
Love professor Comeau, he is a great lecturer and makes sure you understand the material. There are in class tests on the material that you strictly went over in class so you have to show up.
After honestly being able to slide past most of highschool without caring about US history after taking this professor I finally know a bit about it! He's a good professor with engaging lectures but you have to show up, all tests are based on lectures so its very important not to skip. Kind and cool guy!
Professor Comeau really knows what he is talking about when it comes to US history. While he doesn't take attendance, the tests are on what was talked about in class, so going to class is important. The class is a lot of work, but you learn a lot by the end of it.
Dr. Comeau explains all of his guidelines in his syllabus, which is a good reference. Happy and energetic man who is visibly passionate about history. While attendance isn't mandatory, the strictly graded in-class quizzes (45% of grade) are only covered by what he says during his lectures. Reading, 5-question test, and reflection after every class.
Dr. Comeau is very knowledgeable when it comes to U.S. History. He's very passionate about the subject and you can tell during his lectures. He has four quizzes for the entire quarter, and he drops the lowest scoring grade. However, he wants a lot of details and grades very hard on these.
Passionate Lecturer
He was inflexible, and grades hard on tests covering very specific information from the class.
One of my favorite professors. I have taken this professor for two quarters and plan on taking another one. There is a lot of homework, but the guidelines are very clear. Showing up is not mandatory, but you will miss lectures that are vital. Also, his lectures are very fun and always interesting. Be prepared for the quizzes they are fairly hard.
Dr. Comeau is awesome! I highly recommend the hybrid-online version of his class if you can take it, as he lets you get ahead on readings and canvas quizzes. Awesome lectures where he tells history like a story. Take notes on a laptop and you'll be golden for his tests, which are essay questions that basically ask you to re-tell the story.
Dr. Comeau really cares about his students and the concepts he is covering in class. PHIL& 101: 4 in-class quizzes (4-5 short answer questions each - medium diff.), online discussion boards (3 p/week, easy but a bit grindy), and an online test to go along with each discussion (5 multiple choice questions - open book - easy)
This many is on fire for history. His passion for the subject and to teach inspired me to actually try in the class. You gotta show up to class though, his tests are completely based off of material covered in class, if you show up to class and do your thing, EASY A.
Definitely my favorite professor i had so far. His lectures were so engaging, so for the test you just write about certain topics. The homework took up some time, but he graded very easy on that, as long as you did it you would get credit. He has an awesome vibe.
I have never me anyone so passionate about history. He really cares about what he teaches and he wants you to as well. He jumps around the classroom because he is so excited abbot what he is teaching. He really loves his job and knows what he is doing.
Comeau is by far my favorite history teacher. He makes history so incredibly interesting, I was shocked at how excited I was to go to his class every morning. I will say he is a stickler on grading, he looks for specifics. Incredible lectures, very organized class, interesting online discussions, and no essays or a final.
There is a lot of reading in this class, but its interesting for sure! If you like history. His quizzes are difficult and based on you description of events relevant to the course, however he has good reason for his grades so accept them. If taking this as a hybrid class, be prepared for discussions that can sometimes get a little heated, but FUN!!
This class was only readings, lectures, online discussions, online quizzes, and tests. It was a fine set up but it got boring doing the same thing over and over. The in-class quizzes we had were not fun. There were 4-5 topics that we had to describe and talk about in paragraph format. Those were a large part of the final grade.
The readings are sometimes lengthy, but for good reason. His lectures are meant to ensure each student fully understands the material. Overall he really does care that each student gets the most out of class, but does expect you to put in the effort.
I seriously do not recommend taking his class. He gives long readings that he doesn't necessarily go over in class. You'll end up putting hours of work in at home and then end up not actually talking about in class. He won't tell you what will be on the in-class quiz so you won't know what to study and he expects very specific details on them.
Very nice and approachable. Highly recommended, lots of reflections though.
I would not recommend him to anyone! There is so much unnecessary readings and homework! He's always behind on going over what we read the night before in class, he doesn't even give any rv guides before the quizzes, I worked so hard on every homework assignments and on my first test I received a bad grade and that made my grade went down to a 58%
you could tell he loves the class
This was one of the hardest classes I have taken but was well worth it. Bernard is genuinely one of the kindest professors I have had. His class was hard but well worth it. You do have to put a LOT of effort into this in order to pass though. On in-class quizzes, you will need to state specific details from events in order to get full credit.
Professor Comeau was a good teacher, he gave good lectures and you can tell that he is very enthusiastic about what he teaches. The hardest parts of the class for me were the tests. I got 100% on almost everything except for the tests, and my grade got destroyed. Be prepared for lots of reading and Reflection assignments! Take really good notes!
I loved this class!! Bernard is one of the beater professors Ive had at tcc. You definitely have to put in work but its worth it
Nice guy but really tough coursework for me. The quizzes were really hard and they brought my grade down the most. Get ready for tons of HW reading and discussion posts.
Bernard Comeau is by the far my favorite professor I have ever had! I took him for Philosophy, History 146 & 147. He is very friendly and loves his job! weighted grade Online Q's 12%. Online Discussions 40%. Tests 48%. He posts 25 discussions over a quarter, weekly readings (not many pages). 4 tests, the last being optional, the lowest dropped.
Favorite professor ever. Loved the class, deep voluntary in class discussions. Feel like I got more out of this class than any other I'd taken. There is a lot of required reading.. All test questions are only over material we discussed in class, so be sure to take notes. Essay tests. Write every detail you know when it comes to test questions!
Professor Comeau's lectures are well structured and he is very enthusiastic while teaching. His expectations are very clear. If you don't understand something his office hours are a great time to get clarification. Make sure you take detailed notes and write down everything he says, they will help you with his In-Class Quizzes.
Dr. Comeau is a very awesome professor! He's very nice and enthusiatic when it comes to lectures. As long as you take good notes and do what you're supposed to do, you'll do well (especially on quizzes which require very detailed answers). :)
I took this philosophy class twice (got a D the first time and an A the second time) so I know the class inside and out. Professor Comeau is great, the grade you get really depends on the effort you put into the class. 5 in class quizzes (essay style), 5th is cumulative and optional and replaces lowest score. Lots of homework, caring, heavy lecture
What I liked the most about this class, is the homework was a routine schedule. There are short canvas quizzes along with the hw and readings. There are 4 tests, the 4th is optional, if you missed one other quiz or want to replace a grade. Don't miss a test and dont skip. The class is 100% lecture & note taking so you will miss a lot. Study a lot!!
Really good professor and good class but it is really time consuming
He is such a wonderful professor! There is a lot of reading material, but I feel it is expected with a philosophy class. The homework is pretty easy.
Bernard is the best history professor at TCC, but man he is hard! He expects you to know the concepts and specific details, so you have to go to lecture to understand! He is really a great guy teaching a hard subject! If you go to lectures and are active in note taking you will pass! If you put in the effort you will get a good grade!
Bernard is highly educated as well as an extremely kind person. He encourages class participation during lectures often. Online homework is textbook heavy with written-answer questions for each assignment. In class lectures discuss the homework and provide further context. Your lecture notes are to be study guides for the 3 major in-class quizzes.
You will learn a lot but if your not willing to work leave now
I enjoyed Mr. Comeaus class as he made history an interesting subject. Instead of just copying down notes he also opens the topic up for the class to discuss based on the homework youve done; homework can be time consuming it is not too much work not too hard. He gives 3 in class quizzes which make up half your grade, 4th being optional.
Professor Comeau is a great professor and is really kind and knowledgable with what he teaches. If the course is not online, you need to know every word of lectures and remember them perfectly for the 3 tests, which is difficult. If you take it online, it is super easy with one assignment every other day and the same 3 section tests but now online.
Dr. Comeau is kind, fair in his grading, and is extremely knowledge about what he is teaching. I am happy I have taken his class, even though there is a decent amount reading and writing. The only homework there is are discussion posts, which there are three per week. Then there are three section tests, and a research paper. Just stay on track!
He had fantastic lectures that really help you learn a lot about US history. There is a lot of reading and quizzes for each chapter that you read. However, the online quizzes are quite easy if you have read the material. The in class tests are pretty difficult but if you pay attention in class you should be able to get at least a B.
Dr. Comeau is vey easy on grading!! although theres will be a lot of readings. So be prepared!
I'd say he was a really good professor. He really cares about the students and genuinly wants you to learn the material so for the discussions you have to put some thought into them. The only annoying thing is that you can't skip any disccusions/quizzes and can't proceed to the next material without completing the previous assignment.
Dr. Comeau is definitely one of the best professors that I've ever had. The commitment and enthusiasm towards the material that they teach is extremely motivating to see. Their online class is well-structured and easy to follow along. I already love philosophy, so the reading and writing were fun for me, but he made it even more interesting.
Mr. Comeau is a great teacher. He assigns a lot of reading and that's tough, but it's all relevant and interesting. I took him for phil101, his147, and his148, because I knew he was a solid choice. He cares about you understanding the concepts and engaging fully with the material. Even in an online course, he's available, very kind, and helpful.
SOOOO MUCH WRITING!! Be ready to write paragraphs and answer questions every single day.
So let me tell you how unfair and strict this professor is... every week you will have 3 big assignments and for each assignment there will be pages of textbook readings/primary sources then after you done reading you will have to answer atleast 5-8 questions atleast. Imma continue in the next feedback.
500+words then there will be a quiz that is based of the readings, you will do this 3 times a week, it is due tuesday, thursday, and sunday. There will be 3 tests total that has 2 parts, first is multiple choice and second part is 3 essay questions. Honestly the only good thing about this class was that the tests and quizzes arent timed.
So much reading and writing so be prepared for that! Class is very fast-paced as there is lots of material to cover so be ready to type a lot each week. It's easy to fall behind on due dates, but once you figure out what he is looking for you're good to go. The class is well organized and great to do online he doesn't have any video lectures.
I have mixed feelings about him. I enjoyed the class; he is very passionate and engaging when teaching. However, his grading is harsh. There are 4 tests that make up a large part of your grade and he always marked me down w/o feedback, even when I felt good about my answers. I felt no matter how hard I studied, I would never get a great grade
I honestly hated this class so much because it gave me more writing than my English class. Prepare for a lot of agonizing reading and reflecting and quizzing. But, his system has helped me actually remember what I am learning. Also, most answers to quizzes are on quizlet. Make sure to copy and paste all quiz Q&A because he reuses them on the final
Bernie is such a great professor! There's a clear layout of reading, discussions, and quizzes each week. But, he breaks up the reading into small chunks that make it so much easier than other history classes. I highly recommend this prof, you won't regret it. His class made learning the material really clear and I feel like I learned a lot!
Mr. Comeau was one of my favorite professors I've had at TCC so far! He is very supportive and caring. His Canvas page is SUPER organized and lays out 3ish modules a week to complete. Sometimes the reading can be heavy for a module, but it is never too unbearable. 3 section tests, and if you did well on the quizzes you will do awesome in this class
I had Professor Comeau for History 147, and I have nothing but great things to say! By far, he has been one of my favorite professors here at TCC and has lots of resources and gives good feedback. The only thing I didn't like (a minor issue) was that sometimes the modules had a lot of reading but it was never too overwhelming. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!!
It was a lot of work, but his system required me to be actually engaged, so I truly learnt a lot. There were 2/3 modules per week, with 30 ish pages of reading, a long discussion post, and a short easy quiz, all open book. It's really just a normal level of work, and if you put in an hour a day you will be fine! I generally enjoyed the class.
I personally despite not liking history much enjoyed this class and the teacher. There are a lot of assignments & you need to buy a textbook but the instructions are clear and its easy to pass if you do what's required. He also has question modules at the end of each lesson to put in any questions after each lesson and him or other class can answer
Professor Comeau is a tougher grader, so I had to put a lot of effort into my discussion posts. I received good grades even though I often wrote my reflections the day they were due. I failed two 8 question quizzes, which lowered my grade even though there were many A quizzes in the gradebook. He grades section tests very harshly.
Alot of reading! Everything is on his syllabus so there isn't a reason to be surprised, but the canvas tests for our class were about 16 minutes for 8 questions. If I'm remembering correctly, it's the 1600s to 1877 or something, but check out khan academy for videos on the different events. You MUST write alot on the section tests. It helps.
He gives great lectures, I suggest that you go to class because what he explains in class is what is on the test. If he doesn't go over it in class it wont be on the test. he is a very passionate teacher and gets excited about what he teaches. his only downfall is that his feedback isn't the best.
Did an awesome job of making sure that all the text we had to read was relevant to the test and/or material. His lectures are super detailed and he is really helpful in answering questions! Has high expectations for section tests, so make sure you have a detailed understanding of the material. Highly recommend, I learned a lot!
He's not the worst. He just is a tough grader but otherwise his class is great. He is great with lectures and notes but he is a very tough grader and will take off so many points. His feedbacks are alright and as long as you stick to the format and answer the necessary questions with proof from the textbook and lots of strong supporting points.
Overall he's a great teacher but he grades the section tests hard. Even if you feel like you did great on the test there's a good chance you didn't. He's a very tough grader.
Bernard Comeau is a good person. Although he appears kind, his grading expresses otherwise. I took him because of his apparent ratings. They were incredibly good but incorrect after completing the course. You can explain everything perfectly and still will be graded harshly on a test. The homework however is rather easy ranging in difficulty.
Dr. Comeau personally accused me of cheating on an assignment when I hadn't. My grade plummeted and I dropped the class. Several days later he said he had found information that proved I did not cheat and he said he would reinstate my grade. But the damage had been done and I never got an apology from him. Would not recommend this teacher at all.
Professor Comeau is clearly passionate about what he teaches. His lectures are engaging, and he goes over the main points of the readings and assignments, so you get a good sense of what to expect on the written tests. The Reflections can be a lot of reading/writing, and he expects detail, but if you do the work you can get a good grade.
This was a good class and I do recommend that you take it. The most important thing is to stay up to date with assignments. There are monthly essay tests, but those are fairly easy. I liked his lecturing style and found it easy to follow along. Tests were few and far between, and all open book.
This was an online class for History 146, there was lots of reading and plenty of work to do, however, he graded fairly and always left comments about the work. He left actual comments about your work and what you could do to make it better, not just a copy-and-paste answer.
His lectures were helpful in solidifying the materiel that was read prior to the date of the class. There was a lot of reading and homework but once you get familiar with the format the discussion posts are fairly easy. There are three essay style tests threw the quarter that are closed book. At the end of each module there are helpful summary vids
I took this class in person.Ngl, the quizzes aren't that bad, but as a straight A student, getting a B on my first section test was a shocker. For my 3rd section test I wrote 4 pages(not f&b), and got a 98%. He gave us topics and during the exam you had to write as much as you could. I barely knew anything about US history. Please take it seriously
Professor Comeau was an amazing professor, one of my favorites I've taken at TCC. He lectures every class about the previous homework assignment. There are 3 quizzes and discussions every week with 3 section tests but as long as you pay attention and study you will do fine. Overall, professor Comeau is very understanding and always willing to help.
Mr. Comeau teaches using a flipped-classroom method, where you'll learn the material on your own before going over it in class. This can be useful but also disappointing when you find out you did something wrong on the homework. There are 3 tests throughout the quarter. As long as you write a lot and use ALL OF THE TIME he gives, you'll be fine.
He has a very clear style of assigning the work. He is an easy marker on the homework if it is on time and there is homework for every class. He deducts points for late work. There are mini quizzes after most homework. He goes over the subject matter from the homework in the class. The tests all essay. Good teacher.
Prof Comeau is an amazing teacher. His lectures are really interesting to watch. The class structure is good and the coursework isn't too difficult. There is quite a bit of reading but as long as you manage your time you will be fine. Take notes on the reading and lectures and you will do perfectly fine.
I took Mr. Comeau 2 times for HIS146 &148. Very good lectures, very calm, kind teacher. The homework is allright just focus on the main things the prompt is asking and try to find the answers in the textbook and document files. The tests are kinda difficult and he indeed is a tough grader on those section tests. Study your notes and reflections!
I LOVED Professor Comeau's course. It was one I added on at the last minute and ended up being my favorite last quarter. He was communicative, his commentary was great, and he was helpful. I would absolutely take more of his courses if I wasn't graduating this quarter.
Bernie is a pretty good teacher with manageable HW and Tests. HW: 2-9 Questions (average of 5). A couple sentences to 200 words each. Lectures: Super important. Take notes on everything he says, as the test is based on what you talked about in class. 3 Tests: 5 essay questions, 50 minutes. YouTube binging and rereading notes got me good scores.
An easy grader when it comes to the reflections, but prepare to do the work for this class more than any of your other classes. I had him for HIST146 too, and his lectures are actually interesting and engaging. If you take good notes and study them and binge YouTube, you'll do fine on the tests (coming from someone who got 100 on all of them)!!
A LOT of reading and reflections. Do what the people below me said to do and actually study... because I didn't and it turns out he's a pretty stingy grader on the tests if you have no idea what you're talking about.
STUDY FOR SECTION TEST!!! that is the most important thing to be successful in this class. Reflections are not hard graded on done or not. It was not a terrible class but not a very fun one either. 147 and 148 are pretty interesting. This is probably the best history professor option at TCC.
Does not specify exactly what he is looking for while grading.
Comeau's HIS146 can be challenging, but engaging with his flipped-classroom approach pays off. Tough grading on tests, but the homework and discussions are manageable. Unstuck AI proved helpful for study prep, along with the textbook and class lectures.
I took Dr. Comeau for my first semester at TCC back in the fall of 2022. He is very passionate about the material but his grading is very harsh. It was very hard to understand what he was looking for on some of the written response questions for each test/quiz. I felt like I knew the material on tests but the grade I was given didn't reflect that.
The classes were often boring because we would just discuss what we had already learned from the readings. Sometimes he would dive deeper but oftentimes the way he lectured was unhelpful. He is a nice guy and is willing to help you out. Studying is very important for the tests and he doesn't provide a study guide.
In class we just talked about what we read. Two assignments due every two days (one a short quiz and one a discussion post). LOTS AND LOTS OF READING!!! Do not take this class if you do not find philosophy interesting. Well organized class structure! He will get back to your emails. There are 3 tests and he does not provide a study guide.
theres a lot of homework but not all of it is required. the class is pretty easy u just have to pay attention and make sure u study for the section tests, which are not multiple choice. u have to write a long paragraph abt certain topics, like wars and prominent people. if u attend and take notes its not very hard
Professor Comeau is a good choice. He was engaged with students, consistent and predictable, class is very well organized, if you think of yourself as neurotypical, he will be the best professor for you. I never had the feeling that Dr. Comeau had somewhere better to be. He is caring and humble. He is a breath of fresh air on the TCC campus.
Although my rating is a 5, if I wanted to be a bit more nuanced, I'd say 4.5. He's a great teacher, gives really good lectures that give a lot of background information about the topic. He doesn't let you miss tests no matter the excuse, but makes up with it by making the end test the non-mandatory make-up. overall, solid and I highly recommend.
There is a reflection due every day of class which can be a bit tedious at times. You are only required to do 4 of 7 reflections for at a time but the instructions are every unclear, and can be misleading so pay attention. 3 tests throughout the term and they pretty much determine your grade, if you do bad on them your grade will be horrible.
The most fun I've ever had learning history. His lectures are the best — definitely worth attending and taking notes. The tests are open-ended questions and there are many directions with which you can take them. There is a good amount of reading and homework, but it only enhances your understanding and experience.
This guy is amazing, his lectures are on point and he explains things really well. His class structure is very good and as long as you show up to class you will be good. While attendance is not mandatory, you will not do well if you skip. His lectures are interesting and well worth showing up.
He gives optional homework / reflections about all the readings which I suggest you do so you can cushion your grade. There are 3 tests with all opened ended questions and as long as you know what you're talking about / yap and use all the time he gives you should be good. His lectures are great, but you should take notes just to be safe.
Great teacher, lectures were all very engaging and easy to follow, just make sure to take good notes and ask questions. He also has reflections due every day before class, but they're optional. He also has 3 tests that really determine your grade, so make sure you study. All in all, he's probably the best history teacher I've ever had. 100% take.
