If taking winter session, avoid at all costs!!!
If you do the homework and go to class you will not have a problem because his tests are open book. The tests are tough though but if you get a c on the final exam you pass.
People say this class is tough, but if you go to class and do the homework, it's a piece of cake.
Awful, dropped his class cuz the tests were only 4 Q's and he gives no partial credit since it's open book. I know I'm not the first or last to drop his class, this man has nothing going for him.
GREAT professor. You can't miss class, and you have to do the work... but if you do both those things, you'll do just fine and get a lot out of it. He's very easy to understand. HIGHLY recommended.
The class sucked, and he was no help what so ever--got an F in his class, took it again with another prof. and got an A...
Shoulda taken him for qm122 and qm210. Just make sure you copy down the notes from EVERY class and do them just before the exam. Changes the numbers around a little. Good grader. Gives 3-4 exams so if you F-up one of them, you're not in deep sh*t.

Took this class in summer session. If you dont go to class, you wont pass. I attended every class, sat towards the front, and got a good grade. If you ask questions, you had better have done the work cause he asks you what you did, and wont do it for u

DONT TAKE HIM! This guy's name speaks for itself. The guy tells u something is gunna be on a test and then gives u something COMPLETLY different. He is NOT understanding, and he takes pleasure in seeing you fail.

this guy is the worst professor...cant stand how he talks and is the definiton of a teacher that should have retired a few years ago...do not take him...its open book but you wont learn anything from him which will hurt you in the advance qm classes.

This professor has no business teaching. He gives open book exams, but gives you test questions that you never went over in class or in the homeworks. He does not care to help you if you have questions regarding the work, he will belittle you if you ask.
Horrible Professor. I was able to understand the work in class but the tests were completely different. Open textbook does not help. Most people failed or did poorly when I took him.
he explains things really well and is always fielding questions. the tests are open book so all you have to do is take your notes in the book and you'll do fine on the tests.
if u wanna pass, hit up the QM Lab.. the tutor taught me everything i know. theres 5 open book quizzes and a final worth 40%.. dont be fooled by openbook, it wont help much. baiscailly, u can get 100 on all the quizes and bomb the final and fail, or vise versa. haha good luck kids-save ur tests..

Class wasnt that bad, he was always willing to help!..overall i thought he was a great teacher. The subject by itself is just difficult, not really his fault.
this was the worst class ive ever taken...he does not teach clearly, gets annoyed when u ask questions & only gives help to girls...i do not recommend taking this class unless u want to be miserable the whole time

omg this man should be retired...he is awful..I do not know how Hofstra picks their employees but I bet a person off the street could have been more helpful.
summer session was fast but he lets you use the book for your exams, be sure to write all notes in your text book. make sure you know how to do the homework and write your problem work in the book and you will get an A

Professor DICKman is exactly what his name states. Hes not helpful at all and hes never willing give you any help with your grade. I had an answer that I rounded the wrong way and i was off by .01 and he marked it wrong.. avoid this teacher unless your very good at math
ok so yea he's hard, but compared to the other qm profs, he speaks english well and he lets the class out early all the time. theres a simple way to do well in this class DO THE HOMEWORK. He really isnt hard and he explains everything really well. Just do all the homeworks, he will explain if you don't get it, but he won't help your grade, its on u
this class is good because all you need is the textbook, but its bad because there is no curve, the only person to blame is yourself in this class because prof dickman's only job is to grade the test.

He's probably as easy as business stats is gonna get. Tests are all open book, but it won't matter if you didn't attend class to learn how to do it. He'll answer questions anytime you have one. If you do the HW and ask him to clear up mistakes you can get an easy A

Dickman is condescending, lazy to write anything on the board, and could care less about YOU the student who pays his salary. Homework helps a lot, but he's tenured and that SUCKS! Good luck!
I dont know why everyone is bashing on this prof. I personally liked him. He explained everything step by step and always made sure that everyone understands. if someone doesnt understand he explains it again. the tests are very straightfoward and you can use your book! how much better could it get? just do the HW and pay attention in class!
At first I didn't understand his teaching method, but after a few classes he was very easy to understand. He was an excellent teacher dealing with difficult subject matter.

Class was okay. Really have to be in class to understand what's going on, otherwise you're stuck reading the textbook. Tests might seem easy because they're open textbook but it's a real pain. Gotta know your stuff to do good! Okay teacher, ehh class.
So bad, and he knows it because, as he often remarks, he's tenured. He is the case for elimination of tenure, but he does live up to his name very well.
he is an awesome professor, You cant get easier then him. He Business statistics look like kinder garden. I felt like i was dreaming when i was takin this class, like could it get any easier. Open book tests out of 15 points. he makes u leave early. I mean what else can u ask 4. he allows u to take his test in any section he s teaching. awesome!

Really great professor! Let's face it Qm Sucks but his exams are open book! 4 tests, 1 final.. Attendance not mandatory and homework is optional. All exams have three questions. Good professor! Take him if you can!
going to class is essential, he uses the textbook a lot but he also omits a lot from it so going to class helps you understand what you need to know and know what you dont need to kno.
one of the worst teachers i ever encountered, he makes everyone feel stupid so no one asks questions, his tests are way to hard, if you get one question wrong you fail, and there is nothing you can do about it...stay far far away from him
The prof. is very good if you?re a student who needs little instruction and has a natural aptitude for stats. However, if you are like 90% of us who can only learn it by having someone teach us, I wouldn't recommend this prof.
This guy is the man, the best teacher i have ever had. If he made you feel stupid YOU ARE STUPID. this guy is hilarious, (a real OG). Classes are no more then an hour open book test, what more do you want? For those who think if you get one question wrong you fail....THATS NOT TRUE. He knows how to teach and is crystal clear.
Attendance not required but you should go b/c youll fall behind if you dont. No HW. 5 tests. the first four are 15 points each. the final is 40...100 points total and thats youre grade. Its stupid. Very monotonous. Would not recommend him. Take someone else. Helps you understand but makes you feel like an idiot for not getting it in the first place

I personally really liked this professor. He gives you open textbook tests, and you can write whatever notes you want in the book. No need to memorize formulas, and he works through problems step by step in class. Not a good professor for people who do not pay attention in class, or don't want to put in the mental effort to actually learn something

Only thing I learned from this professor was how to read a text book. Then again, I am pretty sure anyone could do that. If you can get around taking this course (with any professor), then do it.
My semester with ****man was amazing. As previously stated, if he makes you feel stupid, you probably are. I thought he was hilarious and a great teacher.If you have problems with simple math and you aren't able to discern between less than and greater than, chances are QM will just be difficult. Don't blame the teacher. Plus his belt is awesome.
I'm very happy I took this course with Dr. Dickman. He is an excellent professor and he explains the material in a way that really supplements the textbook. QM is a difficult course in general, but don't confuse that with the quality of this man's teaching ability. Go to class, pay attention, do your work and you'll get an A.
Warning: Do not take this class. Professor is terrible at teaching the subject. Expect to teach yourself the subject or set up for tutoring sessions. The most Incomprehensible professor ive ever had. He knows his stuff but cannot not relay his knowledge. His tests suck and so does his teaching.If you take his class be prepared to spend the whole semester in extra help possibly for nothing.
Easiest teacher at Hofstra. Tells you what you need to know, no extra stuff. Attendence is completely optional and most classes end after like 45 mins.
This is one of those boring required Business classes, so don't expect much. If you are understand the material, it is very easy and you get an A. If not, you do poorly. He is not a very good teacher, but the quizzes are open book and you get out of class early which is great if you get the material. If you are a math person it'll come easily

Dickman made this class about as easy and clear as physically possible. One or two people may have had trouble, but they were going to have trouble in any QM class. His tests are all short and open book. The book's a pain, but his explanations are really simple and thorough. Plus he jokes around.

I thought Prof. Dickman was great! He moves quickly through the material but if you paying attention and ask him to clarify if you don't understand, you will do well in this course!! I have not taken a stats class before this one and I did really well. Pay close attention when taking notes because he will hint at what is on the exam.

Instruction was good but exam and grading was very difficult and abrasive.
Professor explains concepts in class. He lets class out early at the expense of including things on test that were not clearly explained in class. Has random, subjective, inconsistent grading 2 students same answers very different grades
Overall, would recommend this professor. I don't think anyone can teach this course in a more simplistic way However, if you are someone that needs help before/after class this is not the professor for you. Also, you need to put the work in for his class. He will fail you. Do well on at least the project and two of the tests and you should be fine.
2 midterms+1 final, i individual project. Find the previous exams` questions, they will be helpful. He is not really helpful to explain the project. The class is so boring. Since you do not learn anything in the class, you may have hard time to do analysis for your project.
I heard from many ppl abt how difficult QM is. But in all honesty, I think Professor Dickman did an amazing job teaching this course. I am not a math person but I listened to others' advice trying to understand his lectures and materials. Prof Dickman deserves a thumbup - He made complicated concepts easy to understand. I truly enjoyed his class!

Professor literally explains everything. Don't have to do the hw if you pay attention in class. Doesn't check attendance but you should go to class. He teaches you exactly what he will be expecting on the test. Really not that hard of a class. Definitely recommend this professor.
You might get the feeling he hates his job or the students. He comes across as cold. He absolutely knows his stuff. Ask him a question and he will definitely answer it but not before he makes a sarcastic comment.

DO NOT TAKE! There are only 4 tests with 3 questions on each...get 1 wrong and you're at a D. The questions are also the HARDEST ones possible. No extra credit for homework, attendance, nothing! Unless you're a QM pro avoid avoid avoid!!!!!
Very difficult class. Attendance is a must in order to understand everything. Dr. Dickman only respects knowledge and makes anyone feel awful if you ask him a question. His test are about 3 questions so you better know your stuff. Gives the absolute hardest questions for the exams. He ends class about 50 mins early which is absurd. Please avoid.
Bernard Dickman knows the material well. His presentation is fair, though occasionally unclear. He doesn't like too many questions, but he will answer some. You will need the textbook. The class had 3 exams and 1 individual project. The exams were not too bad, but each question was worth a lot.
Great teacher. His tests are 3 questions each with different parts but if you read carefully you should be fine. He is a nice guy. He does his best explaining the work but it is easy to figure it out on your own when you do the work. Doesn't check hw, attendance not mandatory, such a nice old guy. Would def take again

Best of breed here. It does not get more straightforward than his class. Homework is challenging but is reviewed the next class in depth with no NEW material being covered until EVERY student question is answered. That is, if you don't get it and want to, you will - just ask! You will learn QM, you will do well, you will take him again...
Does like to write on the board. Randomly skips sections. Of course then the next sections make no sense. There is no going back over stuff. You get the sense he hates teaches and dreads going back into the classroom even for a minute. Better professors for a required course. Stay away from him at all costs !
