DO NOT TAKE HIM! I read every chapter twice, took and read over notes he gave, and did the online stuff. I still made a 61. He can not teach and is VERY hard to understand because he mumbles. WORST IVE EVER HAD.
DO NOT TAKE SHARKEY! Your entire grade consists of 4 tests that will not be rounded. He assigns homework, but doesnt grade it and it takes forever, so you end up not doing it, but then your screwed on the test. His class is so BORING!His voice will put you to sleep and there is ZERO interaction with the class to help you learn.
Do not take this class unless you absolutley have to take it for your major. He talks really low and moves very quickly & it's so boring! Your grade is only 4 tests with one hw assignment for each test. The exams are really hard! HE does give curves but the exams are so hard it doesnt matter
This class is very hard, but I found Sharkey to be a decent teacher. The class consists of 3 tests and a final which is worth 40% of your grade. If this class is required then go to class everyday and try to take good notes. I'd recommend bringing a laptop and sitting in the front because he talks fast and low.
He really isn't that bad. As long as you read the chapters you will be fine. He drops your lowest test score and curves all the test. And go class because the in class examples are where the bonus come from. Honestly I think he's a pretty good teacher. And he is really nice as well and loves the topic, so he gets really excited somtimes.
Professor Sharkey was not a terribly hard teacher, but what he teaches is a hard concept. If you go to class, he always gives bonuses and if you study you will do fine in this class.
This class isn't exactly a walk in the park and while the first exam was easy the course only got harder as the semester progressed. Its very boring as many economics classes are and he goes over the slides very fast so you have to pay close attention in order to do well in this course.
RUN! Do not take him!!! He is the absolute worse teacher ever. He's boring and hard to understand. No one ever paid attention in his class, because of how boring he was. However, he was nice. I didn't finish my hw once and he unlocked it for me, but that is not worth taking him. He is a nice person but a HORRIBLE teacher...RUN!!!
Everyone says how hard his classes are, but his tests were straight from the test bank. If you go to class and listen, he will give examples (like making people get up in front of the class) then have them as bonus questions on the exams.
His test are hard but he is a very nice guy. They come strait from the test bank and at the end of the semester he gave a HUGE curve that ended up being over a full letter grade. I would recommend taking him.
Economics is just context in general and no teacher can change that. Goes pretty fast but puts all powerpoints online. Has practice problems available. Very approachable and willing to help. Class is usually very short. Have to read your textbook. Three test and final (Lowest test gets dropped). Curves at the end of the semester.
Econ will always be a tough class that you will have to work for. I've taken Sharkey for every Econ required of me so far because when I was in 2000, I was struggling and he gave me tons of resources that ended up giving me an A. He wants you to do well and he will work with you until you get the grade you want. He may talk fast, but he cares.
good teacher, his lectures can get a little long but they were interesting and went over the content well. his exams can be tough but he gives curves for every one. attendance isn't mandatory but going to class never seemed like a chore. would take again
Best money and banking teacher offered. Very helpful if you have questions. I went to class maybe twice and passed with high A. All tests are test bank, but the final is fairly difficult. He gives a generous curve at the end of the semester. Make the textbook your bestfriend
Does not curve individual exams but does curve final course total. Curved 43 points during my semester.
Good teacher, as I attended class for most of the semester. He is a fast talker and covers one chapter per class. He is very good with numbers himself and he put semi hard math questions on the test, when you aren't allowed to use a calculator. He also doesn't curve until after the final is taken so prepare to sweat.
Horrible. The tests were extremely difficult no matter how hard you study.
Horrible experience. The tests were so hard no matter how much you study. The tests questions are very tricky. You can't hear him when he speaks since he mumbles and he moves so quickly in class that you barely have time to copy the notes and class ends so early.
Amazing teacher and cool guy. He wants the best for his students & I want to take him for every other Econ. GO TO EVERY SI SESSION, YOU WILL NEED IT. Goes fast, so make sure you can take pictures of slides. Read the chapter before class. The curve doesn't happen until the very end & it is significant. Tricky questions on tests. Sit in the front!
Sharkey is the sweetest man ever. There is no homework or participation grade. Your grade is solely based on the 3 tests and final. He drops your lowest test grade and gave a 54 point curve. Everyone fails the final but this curve really helped.
The test are extremely hard & have nothing to do with the material from the textbook and his lectures. He doesn't respond to emails. In order to pass this class, you have to be a good test taker. He gives a huge curve @ the end, but only to cover up his horrible teaching skills. The curve may or may not help.
Here's what you need to know, there are 3 tests and a final. He drops the lowest test and makes your final grade out of 2 test and the final. Exams are tough. So find someone who is good with Econ.
Your only grades are 3 tests and a final, he drops the lowest one. only ECON 2010 class that you can't use a calculator, and he doesn't give the departmental final, he makes his own - but it is based on the test banks if you can memorize 300+ questions for an exam. no textbook or homework. lectures are VERY boring. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR.
He is a great professor and knows what he is teaching. Although going to class isn't mandatory, it is very useful. Studying off of the book and writing what he gives in class is very essential to do well. He posts powerpoints on moodle that are different from what is given in class. He really made me enjoy and love economics. It is not an easy A.
Bernard is the man. He is a legend in what he does. You will fail but it's worth listening to his soothing voice for an hour. Take this class and you will be an Econ expert
Sharkey is not a bad teacher, his lectures are boring, he does make his own tests and they are mostly analytical (looking at graphs and interpreting them).
Sharkey is a pretty cool guy, but his lectures are on a very boring and difficult topic. I feel like there are other professors out there that can help more than he did. It was tough sine the only grades are tests.
He talks a whole lot, but if you do the SI worksheets and study guides and just pay attention in class the tests are pretty straight forward. He is really good at making sure everyone knows what the test will be on.
He's actually a really nice guy. IM debating on taking him for 2010, his tests are almost verbatim from his old tests, so if you can get some, you'll be in good hands. He curved our class total by 51 points. He puts bonus questions from what examples he does in class on his tests so try to actually go to class.
Hard but gave 51 point curve and everyone still passed so ok in my book
I attended a total of 3 classes and ended w/ an A- (thanks to the 51 pt curve). No SIs, no test bank. My only resources were the textbook and powerpoints and I was able to do well on the tests. I would advise at least going to the class before a test. Cool guy, low maintenance class. Taking him for 2010. Gave me 5 dollars once. Solid guy.
Took this class online bc of COVID. Mans didnt lecture at all, all you had to study was his powerpoints. I didnt know economics at all before taking his class, so not having a teacher was extremely difficult
I took this class for my major and expected it to be pretty easy. I was extremely mistaken. The homework was so hard and I did not understand it even after reading the textbook. For the final I studied and did ALL of the worksheets to prepare only to find that none of the information was on the test. The tests that he gives are also painfully hard.
I took this class online and he talked very fast but taught good content. He made the tests doable and rounded the grade a little at the end.
This class is very hard. The lectures are very fast paced and the class is three exam grades and 12% homework. Goodluck
I took this class this past semester and wanted to die. He does not care about his students and speeds through the notes in class. He is also a soft speaker so don't waste your time going to class or even studying. I suggest getting a tutor for every day of the week. His tests are only possible if you are a rocket scientist or economist.
He is a very quiet professor that tends to go fast. It is important to go to class as he tests on very specific things in class. I would read the chapter 1-2 times before going to class. For exam prep I would make outlines of your in class notes and the book notes then watch crash course videos. He helps a lot in office hours.
This class was very difficult to pay attention in. If you don't really understand ECON I wouldn't recommend him. He is very helpful, and will go over the tests with you if you ask. He's nice, but I would try to take another prof. He has a huge curve at the end of the semester that helps everyone out alot.
Professor Sharkey is a good professor but this class is just tough in general. While lectures are a not the most fun, if you study 2 nights before exam and go over practice adaptive reading in connect, the problems are very similar to the test. Gives a whole letter grade curve at the end. Final exam is hard study a lot.
Have not gone to 1 class. How to pass with flying colors: read the textbook for each chapter and comprehend it, do the homework without cheating, and do his provided worksheets. Going to class is really just a bonus. He gives multiple bonus questions on his exams. 3 exams and homework, thats it.
Professor Sharkey was awesome. I'm currently taking his class right now so I do not know my final grade yet. During his lectures he jumps around in the powerpoint a lot and he talks pretty fast. His office hours are flexible and he is super helpful during that. He posts a lot of supplementary videos, powerpoints, and practice problems on moodle.
Amazing professor! His exams are a breath of fresh air - everything you need to know is clearly outlined in his lectures and the textbook. Additionally, I have never had a teacher respond to my questions with such thorough but clear explanations. Would love to be able to have him as my professor again.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Impossible to understand, uses examples from 40 years ago, so nothing is relatable. Talks fast and doesn't give all the slides in class on the PowerPoints provided on Moodle. 3 tests and some homework. He doesn't post the homework until the week before finals and it only raised my grade 6 points. Basically teach yourself.
Terrible teacher, doesn't do anything to help you. Grades are based on three exams and homework is basically worth nothing. Terrible person and wouldn't recommend to anyone.
I'll be honest he isn't the most engaging lecturer in the world, but his class is pretty easy. He has multiple bonus questions on every test which are all easy if you listen to him in class, he curves some exams, and he curves everyones grades at the end of the semester. He provides a ton of extra material to you can review if ur struggling.
Very very very boring person, but grade very very very easy so it a very very very easy class
Dr. Sharkey's lectures were really boring if this is your first time taking microeconomics I'll recommend attending the SI sessions offered by the CAS (this was really helpful), the final exam was really heavy but he gives a great curve at the end of the semester.
Didnt go to class and got an A+. Read the textbook and do the hw without chegg. do his worksheets before the test. Reading the textbook and knowing the vocab is key. He curves heavily which helps. Don't even bother going to class. I can sit through most lectures but I had to walk out of his it was so brutal
Overall I enjoyed the class. Not too much homework, and the tests aren't very hard.
professor Sharkey has been my favorite teacher as lsu so far, i would even go as far as calling him family. I had a 65% at the end of the semester and he rounded up my grade to a 100%. He's a great teacher who really knows about money and cares for his students. PS: ask him for stocks to invest in. quite attractive too!
Graded only by exams, no homework (or expensive online access) necessary! Exams were 30 questions with 6 bonus questions and a 13.3% curve, so you could potentially get 130.3% on your exam.
He's very intelligent. But I had difficulty understanding him because he speaks way too fast and you won't be able to catch him up. Suggest to go to SI session but his TA speaks too slowly too. Although, he curves the exam still his exams are very hard especially when you didn't understand anything in class.
he went fast through his lectures and test were VERY hard. make sure you do all of the homework. it helps you better understand if you read the textbook and powerpoint. only good thing about this class is that he curved the course by 45 points at the end of the semester.
Make sure to read the textbook because your not going to learn anything with the lectures.
All exams are test bank so find a quizlet with the questions and you will be good. The bonus on the exams are usually his questions
Hard tests; also very boring in class. Assigns useless optional homework that doesn't help at all on MyLab. The best way to study for the exams is through a Pearson test-bank
I reached out to Sharkey about how there is not tutoring or SI sessions for his class. I need extra help outside of the optional homework and textbooks. He said that was all resources he had for his course. This is not an easy course and I would not recommend taking him at all if you can avoid it. Apparently he curves though so fingers crossed.
This class just sucks and it is not all the professor's fault. Very test heavy with grade being only 4 tests. I think he is the better ECON 2035 professor out of them all but it is hard to win with this class.
He doesn't provide any helpful resources that will improve your performance on the exams. It's all fair game with the textbook. Good luck on the final; it is BRUTAL, unless, of course, you want to torture yourself by memorizing 1500 questions off a bank.
Professor Sharkey rushes through his lectures and is hard to absorb what he's saying. I've just been teaching myself by reading the textbook. There are 3 in-person exams and a cumulative final (all paper tests). Exams are the only thing in the gradebook. Rumer has it, he is going to add a pretty big curve to our final grades which would be awesome.
This class isn't hard if you just go to class. He curves every test by a lot of points. There's no HW in this course or participation,so you grade is only Exam scores. Sharky's great,he puts the lecture material into his own words so it's easy to understand. The ppl who are rating him so rough are the ppl who don't go to class.
Professor Sharkey is a very kind professor. His lectures aren't the most helpful though, so you need to study the material in the textbook. However, he is so accessible outside of class, and if you ask for clarification about a subject he is great at helping you understand. Only grades are 4 tests so study hard for them. There is a course curve!
There is no big curve in this course, ig that is what I get for believing bs on the internet. Grade is solely based on 3 test and one final worth 40% of your grade.
I wouldn't suggest taking him unless you seriously enjoy economics. This course is hard as is & he is not the best professor to assist you in learning. Attendance was optional, though not really helpful. You have to teach yourself for the most part. Two of the regular semester exams were curved but the final wasn't. He gave everyone a mere 25 curve
Lazy professor, most of the questions on his exams are pulled straight from test banks. Find one if you can, or else you will fail. Don't bother reading the PowerPoints or doing the hw, they are a complete waste of time.
This class is hard and he is the best you will get. There are 3 in-class exams and a cumulative final. His lectures are not helpful in my opinion but if you read the textbook and find practice questions on Quizlet there is no reason you should fail. He curves exams and gives bonus on exams and gave a 25-point course curve which helped a lot.
Your only grades are the test. Tests are based off the textbook. Has PowerPoints but they are long and just copy the textbook. Does curve at the end. Lectures are not mandatory- he has videos at the end.
Would never take or advise anyone to take this professor. Was given study guides which basically was just listed every page number in the textbook. In addition, the exams are departmental so he doesn't make them. I knew others in the same course with a different teacher and they were given more supplemental materials to prepare for the test.
Professor Sharkey used the tests for most of the grade and most of the homework was optional. I managed to get by with a C even though I did not know what I was doing. If you show up to class, you will be fine.
3 tests are worth 100 % of the grade. 1st test = 32% 2nd test = 32% and final = 36%. Doesn't sound too bad right? WRONG, 1st and 2nd tests are both 5 chapters each. FINAL INCLUDES 4 MORE CHAPTERS along with all the first two test materials. Imagine paying a professor 90k, just for him to read off a PowerPoint every day. PAY ME 5k and I'd do better.
The only thing good about this class is that he curves each exam and your final grade at the end. There is no other grades besides exam 1, 2, and exam 3 is cumulative. You will not pass unless you read the text book. His lectures are boring and each slide has so much information on it that you can hardly follow some of them. Take someone else.
500 points for the class in 3 test and that is it. Good luck if u bomb an exam... He curves each exam by 15-20% and most still finish with a C. Most boring lectures known to man. For the final he simply says what chapters it is on and says good luck. It amazes me how I ended up with the grade I did.
Professor Sharkey is a good option for this course. The entire course is made up of 3 exams, but he curves exam 1 and 2, and although he does not curve the final he does a course curve at the end. Reading the textbook is enough to pass the class, lectures are optional.
Professor Sharkey is kind to curve the first two exams and the final course grade, which helped a lot. But, this subject is very dull and his lectures really don't help, very hard to stay engaged. I went to nearly every class and still struggled to pass, which I feel is also a reflection of the teacher. Only having 3 tests doesn't help. Good luck
Hard class
AVOID. Terrible professor. He messed up the time length on the first two exams, fifty minutes instead of eighty, gave us the opportunity to "retake" them, the day before thanksgiving. Asked where I could find the answers to problems in the textbook after completing his worksheets, I needed more practice. Told me to "look at the worksheets."
I think most people hate this class because of his lectures are boring, but its econ what do you expect. If you pay attention in class, do your homework, and use the resources (practice worksheets, extra videos, etc.) you'll be fine. He curves the first two exams, and he curved the class by a whole letter grade. You have to put in effort.
Only 3 exams, he doesn't give exam outlines or really telling you what's on the exam at all. His classes are mostly just him rambling and he skips the slides too fast you can't write them down so you need to read the textbook to learn. Homework assignments help, allows a few late homeworks for full credit. Really nice guy, tough class
Easily the worst class I've taken. No teaching, no study materials, and exams that feel completely unrelated to anything covered. His notes and worksheets look like they haven't been updated in 40+ years. I studied nonstop and still felt clueless on every test. Exhausting, discouraging, and impossible to succeed. Avoid taking him at all costs.

Stay away from this teacher. One of the worst professors I've had at LSU. Lectures are awful and he just reads off his PowerPoints. Does not tell you what to expect on tests, no study guides. Three tests worth 90% of your grade, homework is only worth 10%. Would definitely recommend finding any other class or teacher.
Lectures are very hard to follow, and only 3 tests worth 80 percent of your grade and homework worth 20%. You have to read the textbook to pass. You really have no idea what will be on the exam. Curves each test by a generous amount, final was curved by 38 points and a 10 point course curve. Nice guy, buy you need to put in some serious effort.
Condolences to anyone taking this class. Most ECON 2010 professors teach Macro basics; Sharkey teaches how to run the global economy on hard mode. The final was curved 38 points, the class 2%, and 3 exams are 90% of your grade. Survival is the real learning outcome. This isn't a class—it's an endurance test, Enroll only if you enjoy pain.
