He demands a lot from his students and he will not accept anything less than professional level work. If you can handle his class you will do well in the field. If you can ace his class then you can handle anything.

Don't get him mad! Other than that...don't buy the text because he RARELY uses it and do all of your work!

He's a very influential guy, and those blue eyes are so intimidating! If you're shy about speaking in class, he will losen you up! And if he picks on you and you don't know it-he doesn't accept that and will beat you down until you know it! Pay attention!

At first i was very intimidated.. but if you get by that, you are golden. He seems hard but hes not,, just do the work, and you will be fine.. I got an A-.. And i'm not that smart.. Great teacher prepares you for your job as a lawyer..

Come to class,take notes,and study! Easy midterm, easy assignments but he's very anal. Must be his way..or the highway!

This teacher is a great teacher. He is extremely clear in what he teaches, and his assignments are productive. If you fail him, it's because you can't handle the law field. He is straight to the point and honest.

He is an honest guy, very intimidating, he will put you on the spot, don't mess up. The course consists of a midterm, know the structure of the courts system, three written assignments, and a final. This class is easy if you know what you are doing. an easy A, if you really like Law.

great prof. pay attention in class, know ur work and don't get scared when it comes time to do the assisnments. there are 4 of them. all involve doing REAL legal research and writing, he does not show you how ot do it though, you must take initiative. he simply wants to show his students what the re

dont listen 2 wut the others have written. he's 1 of the best professors in sju but he's not easy. 3 assignments 2 tests. study n show up 2 class n u'll do fine.

he keeps it real if you cant handel it drop him. gives out 2 written exams and 3 briefs which he gives you enuff time to do u dont really need the book hes a great prof if you know ur stuff you have no worries, every1 who criticized or is intimadated by him i dont know how theyll be lawyers

He is a fair prof. You have to go to class and take good notes. As long as you go over them and do your work you'll be fine.

He's a great teacher and tells it like it is. If you're interested in the law, come to class, take good notes, and absorb as much as you can from the man. Exams/papers not hard if you study and do the work.

Excellent professor. Good teacher, not easy but fair. do the work and go to class and youll be good. dont buy the book. No need for it. 2 test 3 briefs and easy. recommend him if u ready to do ure work if not dont take him

This Prof is Excellent. His exams are very eazy, i did not study for his exam and i got a C. However, if It had study i will have definelty gotten an A. The Student who study in my class got A's. Professor Helldorfer prepares students for the real world, and the real world is not eazy, give him credit where credit is due. He is a very fair grader.

this is the deal with him.. i kno him on a personal level and i have taken a few of his classes.. he honestly really prepares you for what its like.. hes not as mean as it seems he jus trys to make you work so you will be ready for the real world.. if ur looking for a joke A then this isnt for you.. but overall you will learn from his class

Like the rest, he is fair. Not an easy A but def attainable if you study. but there is a lot to be learned from this man,, and if your serious about getting into the legal profession, he is the one to go to. take his class. slackers shouldnt bother, theyll just complain about his method.

Definitely not easy...but very fair. Slackers shouldn't bother, like it's been said. His classes are enjoyable if you really are considering a life in the legal field.

If you really want to pursue a career in the legal field, Helldorfer will def. help. Although he is unclear about the exams, you wouldnt have to worry about it if you go to class and pay attention. He always tells personal stories, eventually they are useful. He is very serious about his job and expects you to be also. Def. worth taking his class.

I am enjoying my career in the legal field, oh wait a minute what career? How sad that law firms tell me i need legal work experience! Bernie is a good professor but take my advice, major in english, and apply to law school when you are done, otherwise you will have a bad time finding a job with a legal studies degree unless you know somebody.

HE GIVES A LOT OF WORK TO PREPARE YOU FOR BEING A LAWYER. HES NOT AS BAD AS EVERYONE MAKES HIM OUT TO BE. YOU DONT NEED THE TEXTBOOK JUST TAKE GOOD NOTES.

I had him for Bankruptcy this semester and he is good. Okay, i have to admit, he is pretty rude and his exams are pretty tough, but i learned soooo much in this class. He is a good teacher if you appreciate his teachings and have a passion for LES. I honestly enjoyed his class and am taking him again next semester. I definitely recommend him.

I don't know why most of the ratings are bad. He was a pretty good professor. Not a lot of work, just 4 legal projects which are really self-explanatory and as long as you do them right he gives you full credit. The two tests come directly from the notes in class.

This is my second time taking him, and i have learned so much in his classes, i have to admit,he gives students a hard time sometimes, but he does it for a reason and you really learn from your mistakes,trust me you would not do it again in the future. i definitely recommend him, it's worth it. I would sooo take him again next semester if i could

seriously, he waits for anyone to make a mistake so he can use it to make a point..being a lawyer is demanding and u have to realize the world ur entering in this field is cold and not understanding, he talks alot the class itself is easy, just take NOTES and STUDY which he will repeat again and again but he babbles alot nn ppl start to slack off

You will love him. There's a certain air of importance around him, but sometimes youll feel like hes a little full of himself. Either way, its a hard class but an enjoyable one. Take him seriously. Good luck :)

he is rather boring bring your laptop! he is hard, when you present in front of the class make sure you know everything or he will rip you apart. He is a fair grader but definitely full of himself he thinks he is all knowing. He is a lawyer himself and as he said he will not let you embarrass st johns in the outside world.

You don't actually LEARN anything in his class, he just talks for an hour and half straight. Get your act together when you're in his class or he'll embarrass you incredibly, especially when you ask "stupid" questions. 3 papers to write - no hw or quizzes. The textbook is a WASTE do not buy - the midterm/final is what's in your notes.

After reading many of the ratings below i agree. He does hound you on your presentations a lot!!! make sure you know your stuff. He is very boring in class he talks forever you dont learn much, but he is helpful and a big Greenbay Packer fan haha. I would take him again, dont buy the text book!

Relax freshmen. He just wants to weed out the weak from the strong. Insurance is a great course and he makes sure you understand everything before moving onto a new topic. He's very helpful and really is very intelligent. Just pray mock trial does well so you can miss a few classes

I actually liked this class. Make sure you pay attention and stay off your laptops AND phone or he WILL call you out on it. Overall, its a pretty helpful course and he's a very knowledgeable person who just shares his experiences in the field.

Best prof @ SJU esp in Legal Studies. I never missed a class because he gives a lot of notes but also because he is very well informed no wonder he is the head of the dept. Take good notes and pay attention youll have no prob. One thing that annoyed me was his obvious preference for those in his Mock Trial but aside from that one of my best prof!

He's the head of the legal dept for a reason - he's smart and a hard professor. I took his class in summer 2007 and learned a lot. You cannot be lazy and you cannot fool him in thinking that you're doing the work when you're not - he's not stupid. I worked hard and got an A. His class taught me the basics of tort law which was helpful in la school.

Great Prof. He makes everything extremely clear, and teaches you everything you need to know. Just take good notes,study them, and work hard on the few assignments he gives you and its an easy A, the main problem i feel that most people have is that he doesn't take any B.S. and he calls students out sometimes rudely in class, but it shouldnt matter

Although he seems like he does not care, he does. He has a huge heart and cares for his students and their future. His classes are challenging, and he challenges each student to think like a lawyer, and to move away from your comfort zone. If you want to succeed you should take his classes. You learn more than just the course load.

I thought he was a good professor, The assignments were challenging but rewarding in the end. His tests were easy. If you didn't pay attention to the class, then of course you wouldn't like his class. 2 tests, and 3 assignments. He gives the class a layout on how to approach his assignments and the textbook could help with that as well
