I think he is a very good teacher...gives you enough info to study, tests are not to hard. NO ESSAYS. If you study you will pass.

Very detailed, as long as you abide by his rules which are not too difficult and you follow his teachings and notes, you will succeed.... his teaching is easy to follow. Even though his tests are multiple choice, you cannot make a C without reading.

This man is a great teacher. If you think he is hard,unfair,etc you obviously have not experienced taking this class elsewhere. He teaches just fine, and I understood his jokes because I'm an "older" (ahem) student. It's because of his teaching that I cruised through nursing clinicals with professors asking me about anatomy. You just have to be a "grown up" to appreciate him.

Tough material but Prof. Atsma was extremely helpful. Provides clear direction on expectations and material in play for exams. I would take this professor again. He explains the material very well and he drops the lowest test grade.

Not really sure what the apparently not English compehending person who just commented is talking about, but he DOES drop the lowest grade, and should you do well enough on his first four exams, you can opt out of the final--it's a personal option. If you study his handouts, you will do well. He's good, take him.

Great Professor: Prof. A teaches from his online notes. He helps you by having you print out classnotes from his site to bring to class. Be on time and ask questions. You will pass if you want to. But you will have to earn it!!

After my 3rd test (got a 92), all I did was study his notes on his website and his lecture notes he adds to those notes on his website. So, it's mandatory to attend class UNLESS you read the text. He's VERY anal about tardiness, so don't be late! And just reading his notes won't help. You must UNDERSTAND them inside and out. Questions are tricky!

He reads right off the pp basically word for word so theres no reason to even go to class

One of the best A&P professors at UCC. Bio 1 and 2 are VERY difficult courses, but he tries to not overwhelm students and help them to succeed by making online notes, dropping lowest grade.. I see that he and prof. Andrews here have the same rating, I completely disagree, had Andrews too, he is much more difficult to get a good grade!!!!

Maintains discipline strictly.Punctuality is a must to attend his class. Overall he's a pretty cool guy. He's a good professor. He goes into great detail with every topic, so the students can understand. He dumbs it down very much to make it easier for everyone to understand. His exams are definitely doable if you memorize his notes and maybe read the chapter once. Book is not mandatory. Succeeds in making difficult course material more understandable, tries to make topics as clear as possible. Powerpoints used in class are also available on his website which makes studying ten times easier. You must study and keep up with material; exams are not tough if you utilize and study all the notes/study reviews he gives you.

Professor Atsma really cares about what he does. He takes a lot of time to create real content for his online classes (most online professors are not like that!) he responds quickly and is happy to help you understand. There's a lot to learn but his exams are very fair IF YOU STUDY! He even drops quizzes if you do better on a proctored exam.

BestProf Ever!! took him for BIo 105 lab and passed with an A. I got a 100% on the lab final. If students dislike him its because he expects students to follow his rules, like don't be late. Some people have an issue with that but if your in college and you decide what time to take a class, why are you late anyways? Its not his fault bio is hard.

This class is notorious for its 50/50 pass/fail rate, but w Prof Atsma its not that bad. He has a very good website that has everything you need to know to pass. Many kids have to take this class multiple times to pass, but I was able to pass with an A my first shot during the summer. Print the packets. Atsma website/"tricks" + youtube videos = A.

I LOVE prof Astma. He is very clear on what you need to study for. He gives you notes and the tests are EXACTLY whats on the notes. If you take the time to study the notes then you will get an A. If you dont study then you wont get a good grade. He gets annoyed if you dont follow directions or if you dont show up on time. But he is great!

Professor Atsma is an amazing professor that I took over the summer for Anatomy and Phys 105 and I got an A. I put in a lot of time studying but his notes are all that you need to pass. Pay attention in class and study everyday and you will get that A. Would love to take any class with him!

AnaPhy is one of the hardest subjects to learn, since it has a lot of Chemistry mixed into it. Instead of memorizing, Prof Atsma strives for his students to UNDERSTAND the material. His tests are not tricky, but straight to the point. Lectures are so fun; he really puts his heart into every class, so LISTEN. His website is phenomenal, use it well!

I took his class in spring semester. Professor Atsma is very organized teacher, his note is clear and easy to understand and follow. However, he is very strict teacher but that what make you work harder and get a good grade and he is reasonable teacher and I like him!! I was very enjoy every time i spent in his lab class and his quizzes!!!

Professor Atsma is very knowledgeable, and if you need help he always make himself available to help you. His lectures are strait forward, you need to study his materials. Don't listen to the bad reviews & don't be intimidated by his rules on his website. He has an easy going personality. His tests are easy, I study about 2hrs and manage to get an A. He provides notes for you so you don't have to take much of your own (if any) which helps ALOT in an A&P class. I would take him again for 106.

Professor Atsma is funny and super intelligent! You can actually just listen to his lectures and understand the material without even reading the book. He always give fun memory tricks and he makes taking the test easy. The material is hard because it's Biology not because he makes it hard, he actually makes it easier and enjoyable to learn!

Its Anatomy, You cant blame the teacher for being hard because its the class that's hard not the teacher making it hard. Professor Atsma was one of my favorite Prof. ive taken and I wish he was teaching A&P II in summer cause no doubt he would be my first choice. Loved this class and this proffesor! He is strict with attendance, but that's only because he wants you to do well in his class. Study his power points and pay attention in class and I promise you'll be fine. He doesn't just want you to memorize everything, but he genuinely tries to help you understand the material.

So many rules. I felt like I was back in high school again. Don't be late, can't leave during lecture. It's nice he wants to minimize distractions, but we are adult students. That being said, very good at presenting the material in an understandable fashion. Gives students many opportunities to succeed and all info is on his slides/website. Easy.

Took summer 2 session. He is very strict with attendance, late 5-10 minutes he will eat your head off. Otherwise the class is extremely lecture heavy, reads off slides the entire time. Gives as many resources as possible to pass though, reviews and notes alone will contain everything on the tests. 5 exams including final, 25% each, drops one

A&P is not an easy course, no matter who you take it with, but Professor Atsma explains the material in the simplest way possible to make sure his students understand through and through. He does not waste time on material you do not need to know. All quizzes are directly from powerpoints! one of my faves!

Honestly the best anatomy proffesor to take! He has the highest passing rate! I made the mistake of not taking him for Bio 106 and i regret it so much! Also, make sure youre on time - he's super strict about that. Other than that, he's pretty leniant and fair.

EXCELLENT; can't wait for 106. Presentation is clear and concise, grading system is MORE THAN fair. Yes, he asks us to be on time and be respectful, which we should be anyway! He knows how to teach & learn; if you follow his study suggestions you'll do well. Of course you have to be serious & study; it won't be handed to you by ANY professor.

best A&P professor! I took him in the summer & i wasnt really sure of it at first because it is very fast paced but he made it really easy for me. his lectures were good, he gave a lot of examples or as he calls "Atsma's dumb memory tricks" and he grades fairly. i would definitely take him again!

Took him in the summer for Bio 105 and loved him. I would definitely take him again if I could. Not sure how he teaches in the fall and spring, but in the summer he would give out pop quizzes and if you got both questions right, it was extra credit. If you got them wrong, they didn't count against you. You must study to pass him exams!!!

This was a hard course for me. I would not have received an A,if not for his excellent teaching skills. His radio voice and condusive environment helps make learning much easier. He uses mnemonic devices and Atsma's Smart Memory tricks, which really help ameliorate the heavy load of memorization. He's the best Science teacher I have come across.

Atsma is by far the greatest professor I've ever had! He is intelligent, kind, & explains the material extremely well. So far I have an A+ in his lab, it's my only chance of passing bio 105 having Dunscombe as a lecture professor..

I'll admit I ended up taking his class by accident because it was the last day of registration. Call it a blessing in disguise because Professor Astma is an amazing lecturer. The comedic value alone is worth the price of admission. His rules might be too much for some but I understand why its there. To provide a comfortable learning environment.

Great professor! He has a great voice for lecture and a fun sense of humor. He is really the best at explaining and simplifying tough topics. He is always available during office hours for extra help. He creates a professional learning environment. I am already using what I have learned in his classes and feel very well prepared for nursing.

I have Atsma currently, and although my grades arent perfect, that's 100% on me. He makes the lecture really interesting and easy to learn. He knows how to make students understand. You definitely need to study though, he's tough but the Alc can help you and he's not shy about giving extra credit for ma&p and visiting the alc.

Atsma knows his stuff, very smart man. BIO 106 is a lot already but he made his lectures a lot more easier to understand but one thing he does not tolerate is being late to his class so I do not recommend taking him early in the morning.

This is my second time taking a course led by Prof. Atsma, and I'd take another. He provides his students with the necessary material to pass his class, including: presentations, lecture videos, reading assignments, and additional notes. If you put time into studying the subjects covered in his presentations, and the other materials, you will pass!

I love this professor so much, I have even taken him twice! He often will even say hello to his former students in the hallway if he runs into you. You will not only learn the material in this class, but also fun facts that make it all easier to remember. He also works at the pace of his students, and makes sure everyone understands.

Took Professor Atsma's class for both A&P 1 (face to face) spring 2020 and A&P 2 (remote live) fall 2020. He is very knowledgable and teaches you exactly what you need to know to feel prepared for your nursing journey. Pay attention to lectures and read the slides and you will pass. I had him for Bio 105 & Bio 106. He teaches you just what you need to know and provides students with his own notes to study from. His class is worth taking since he explains the material very well. He encourages his students to visit his office hours and if you visit the ALC he gives you points towards your exams!

Took Professor Astma for A&P and at first it may be rough when taking the exams but once you get the hang of it, it comes so easy. Started off getting low Cs but I started doing his memory tricks for HIS slides and I got As on the exams after. Attendance is super important though. Also lets you drop one exam! Do yourself a favor and take him.

Professor Atsma is very clear with his lessons and often correlates them with jokes to help his student form connections. He wants you to succeed and is very helpful. Studying in this class is very crucial but it is all worth it!

You take quizzes for each unit that you will learn and then you have a final exam that is done by Proctortrack. He gives you an extra 5 points on his quizzes. If you complete the work on Cengage.

His class consists of Unit tests and a final exam. The lowest test grade is dropped, you have the opportunity to receive 5 extra bonus points on the test by completing the Pearson assignment. He provides all the information you need to be successful. I suggest using all the material he provides and studying. Pass your test and you will be fine.
