Great class... great teacher. A++, Lots of fun too. I would def reccomend prof levine to anybody taking law and politics... or any other class he offers.
you have to go to class
funny, and interesting, goes on alot of tangents, but he knows his suff, kind, very kind grader, going to class=A
Amazing grader and very helpful, but goes off on wild tangents
Funny and a good teacher.
Hes pretty easy, but a terrible professor. I could never go to class, and when I did it was either to get my graded assignments, hand in papers or take exams. But if you read the assigned readings you will do fine. Curves are huge, so you should get a b
A great course and a great guy, with more experience in his field than most professors combined at school. Willing to go out of his way to help you, tho in his own quirky way
hardly went to class, bad lecturer, got first class notes, got an A
Nice guy, huge curve which makes it hard to fail his class...
Great guy, good lecturer, but its a hard class. He def. knows what he's talking about. Study!
Awesome grader and very funny. Also helpful and all around nice guy.
i think he is a great guy, very easy to talk to, very funny, an enjoyable teacher.
This professor is passionate, intelligent, interesting and very helpful. All requisities for a good professor. If you're into law and politics, give this class a try. A great class where you actually learn something at the end of the day. TA's are helpful too.
His is hilarious and loves to tell stories. He makes it IMPOSSIBLE to fail his class and almost impossible to not get an A. The final read like this. "You showed up congratulations you earned 50 points, no earn the next 50." Take this guy, he is great.
This guy is awesome! I wish he taught every class I had.
Definetley a character, wont forget his impression of a **** mickey mantle in front of everyone. I got a 100 on a test, and i know squat about politics. Got exempt from the finals, he lectures pretty well and certainly knows his stuff.
great professor, funny and understanding guy....if you go to office hourse hes a great help...this was my first poli sci class and I got a B...pretty good amount of work but its worth it
Had him for two classes, he's definitely one of the best professors here. He is a lot like former New York Mets manager Casey Stengel, look that up if you don't know who he is. He constantly tells stories and keeps you entertained all the while teaching the material. Probably the best prof. here.
Must be one of the best professors in the whole university. He knows what he's talking about and you'll actually learn something. Going to his office hours will help you tremendously. TA's were ok. I plan on taking any other classes he may happen to teach.
Good professor, but really the hotness factor is what did it for me. He knows his stuff, sure, but his class is too darn distracting because he's so hot you can't even focus on what he's saying.
I agree. Prof. Levine is one of the best prof. in the university. I came to this class with no knowledge and left with an A and a new perspective on politics. The TA's are awesome and extremely helpful. There's a lot of reading,5 briefs,a paper, quizzes- the last one being the final and lowest is drop (exc. final)- its worth it in the end!
Follow exactly what he says will be on exams and you'll get an A or B. I definitely didn't have enough background to understand some of what he was talking about, but he was great at answering questions and kept you awake in class. Fair Grader!
I cannot believe this man has his Ph.D. He's got the IQ of brick and the classroom manner of a football coach. No offense to bricks and football coaches, but they have no place being my professors. That said, if you are a dolt like the rest of the swine who rated him, take his class: it's easy.
You'llbe fine if you read and pay attention in recitation but I think he has a couple of loose screws. Hislectures are almost never on topic and he yells and screams for your attention. Weirdo!!
If you read and go to class then you'll be okay. He is very easy to get of topic, and seems like theres some screws missing up top. Fair grader who wants you to do well.
He's the man. I love this guy. Take both of his classes: L&P and Intrest G. It doesn't get better than him. He's Very fair grader and you will learn alot.
Hes awesome really cool to listen to and makes class fun as hell, bit of reading but easy to get a good grade. he is as good as it gets from a prof
He's the type of professor who on the first day of class comes in, throws down his brief case, and shouts "What is political about the law!" That was the first class I ever had at rutgers and I left saying "I'm gonna like it here." He's just such a cute fun guy. He's very smart, but doesn't belittle you when you are wrong. Definately take him.
This class was really good!He gets off topic sometimes, but his lectures pretty much tell you everything you need to know for each topic on his tests.1 or 2 papers, easy briefs that you can copy the format from you textbook.Attending class is mandatory, but it helps your grade too.Know the gist of the cases, and the class is an easy high grade.
Professor Levine is probably the best thing that happened to teaching. As a freshman at Rutgers University, he makes my transition into college very easy. This class, although deals with tough materials, is a lot of fun because Professor Levine makes it that way. Thank you so much for allowing me to love your class and hate the others :D
This guy BLOWS!...Hes about as organized as a rabid mongoose...I cant believe he's a prof!...Never had him for class but DO NOT do the WDC internship soley b/c this guy will screw u!...I should have known not to get involved once I met the guy...and its been downhill since... RU (and the world)would be a better place if this guy jumped off a cliff!
great guy and an even better professor..may be a bit unorganized, but it isn't reflected in your grade at all..really teaches the material affectively...i highly reccoment this class to everyone
He's a nice guy, but he spent a lot of time answering stupid questions. The material is pretty basic and polisci majors should be pretty bored.
class is not as easy as everyone says. no study guide for exams and you have to go to office hours to talk to him. he doesnt communicate via email bc he has dilexia. a lot of reading to do and attendance is mandatory!
Don't believe all the mean comments! He's a really really nice professor, and he'll help you with questions and the briefs that he assigns. Very lenient and kind. You hardly have to pay attention in class and can still get a good grade as long as you study for the exam (which he gives you a study guide to). Definitely take him if you can!!!!
BERT LEVINE IS THE MAN!!!!!! do not listen to any of the bashing comments...this man is great. sure he goes off topic every now and then but he does everything in his power to make sure you pass his class. He goes above and beyond to reach out to his students to make sure that they are understanding the material. a bit unorganized but easy A!!!
Professor Levine is very nice, intelligent, a bit absent-minded but means well and cares about his undergraduates. Will help you to do well if you seek it. Lecture not mandatory but is sometimes helpful. He has a lot of insider knowledge about Congress.
He's a cool professor... Attendance is not mandatory but helpful when it comes to the exams. All you have to do is read the cases and you'll be fine. Show up to lectures and you'll hear some funny stories. Overall a good professor, not hard at all...
Horrrrriblleee, man. Half the time you can't even hear him, because he starts mumbling to himself - but that doesn't matter anyway, because he's probably only mumbling about O'Doul's. He's a nice guy, but a terrible professor.
Personally, this was the worst class I took this semester. His lectures were scattered and randomn, and almost impossible to take notes on. Although, every single upperclassman who I talked to who had him pror told me what an amazing professor he was. I however, was very dissapointed. Some test questions were easy, and some were difficult.
The class is not difficult, you should def get an A. Easy quizzes + 5 law briefs. I thought he was a great prof, extremely friendly, but I felt he had trouble teaching the intro course, he kinda got boring at times. I heard he's awesome in other classes-I would definitely take him again. But the TAs are what make the class.
BEST Seminar Professor EVER!!! He is funny and his class is extremely informative and helpful. he uses personal experience to relay issues. take home midterm and 1 final project...NO ESSAY!!!
law&politics. really funny and really knows what he's talking about. sit in the front rows to be able to hear him when he mumbles. goes off on tangents, but really emphasizes what you need to know for exams. must read. exams were somewhat difficult. i still dont know how to write a good brief. always makes office hours available for students.
funny guy, very approachable if you need help, rubs some people the wrong way by acting somewhat crass but its part of his sense of humor. for poli sci majors its an easy A b/c he tells you exactly whats on the exams and the class is pretty much the Supreme Court unit of an AP American Government class. if you have no gov background it can be hard.
Good professor but the lectures can get a little off topic. You will learn a lot but you have to do the reading. He basically goes over the reading and showing up for class is not mandatory. Exams are 10-12 questions and they are all short answer, not exactly easy but by no means difficult if you read.
He's the sweetest man ever! I got into a car accident literally two hours before our exam so I called him and told him and he was so worried and made sure that i'd get home safely- instead of stressing me out about how I was missing an exam. He's really a great professor- very funny and lively. I'd take a class with him again anyday. love him!!!
Interesting professor! Probably one of the better poly sci profs teaching at Rutgers. Really enjoyed his Seminar class, there is some required reading (one book written by him) but taking good class notes are the key to doing well in the class.
the exams are horribly constructed, but the class is interesting. its a lot of reading. i had a bad TA, so that effected my grade. wish they had a different prof for this class.
Levine is a great professor. Although hard to hear sometimes he has a love for the class and his students. He's funny, easy going, and understanding. Their isn't a lot of work, but of course a lot of reading. The tests are pretty easy as long as you're familiar with law and important cases. I definitely recommend him.
Not sure why everyone loves him. I thought his class was terrible. I struggled very much and his review guide for the midterm was awful. I dropped the class for fear of doing badly. I heard many students did horrible on the mid-term. If you screw up the mid-term you need a high B or an A to climb outta the hole, cause its mostly midterm and final.
I've taken 3 of the 4 classes Levine teaches at Rutgers- he is phenomenal. I started with his 790:106 and it was tough, but so worth it. Do the reading, go to class and participate and he'll love you and you will do well. He is not tough if you do the reading and defend your arguments well on exams. If you're at all interested in Pol Sci, TAKE HIM!
Prof. Levine is an excellent man and brilliant legal mind. Although it may seem like it is a lot of work with the briefs and reading it DOES pay off when you realize just how much you have learned about the SCOTUS and the legal system in general. Grades are fair and he does account for the differences in TA's grading! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Professor Levine loves to go on tangents in lecture, making it difficult to follow and take notes. The readings (sometimes pretty interesting) are a must if you want to pass. The exams can be very difficult, you need to really study and know what the answers he wants (no study guide provided). I have a B/B+ for the semester.
Prof. Levine is a very nice man. If you ever need help he is always willing to set up an appointment with you. Having said this his teaching style is a little chaotic and leaves you feeling fustrated because he goes off on a tagent a lot during class. 2 exams, 30% each, 3 law breifs 10%,10%,20%. If you complete the study guides you should be fine.
funny guy, keeps lectures very interesting. he mumbles a lot and nobody can understand him at times, but he makes a joke about it. the exams are worded very tricky, but are mostly short answer/essays so its not too bad
He's a tough professor but he does really care about his students. Just because its an intro class don't expect it to be easy and always keep up with the readings. There are 3 briefs to be written a midterm and a final. The midterm and final are both worth 30%. DO ALL THE READINGS and do them as they are assigned. Read them twice if you have to.
Prof. levine is a good professor. the class itself was very interesting, which helped me in regards to studying and readings all the books which could be tedious and boring for others. the midterms arent easy but are not impossible. you have to read for the midterms and must understand the concepts in the books.
Funny professor, but he mumbles a lot and is very hard to understand. Attendance isn't really required in general lecture, you learn more in the recitations. Midterms are tricky, with a lot of strangely-worded questions and some "gotcha" type questions. The essays are pretty straightforward though.
Def take Bert! he inspired me to go to law school cuz if this dumb funny dyslexic man can, i can! its basically 3 briefs but dont be scared theyre easy, black and white, 1-2 pages. I got an A and stopped going to class halfway through. hes funny too.
It's funny how people say there's so much work as if it's a negative. Of course there's a lot of work, you're at Rutgers University in a Poli Sci class. Levine is a great professor who brings a wide range of real word lobbying, congressional, and law experience in teaching his classes. His lectures are always interesting and I highly recommend him!
Very funny guy! Very smart and genuinely cares about his students. If you ever have an issue with a grade, reading or anything, he's more than happy to help. He expects a lot of his students but if you do the work, you will get A LOT out of his classes!
Levine is the best. Was a former lobbyist and definately knows how washington works. He definately knows what he is talking about and has a way of keeping students alert in class which is hard for me. Expects a lot of reading but its worth it in the end. He helped me figure out that I want to become a lobbyist.
took him for Public Opinion, very easy, he goes off on tangents and tells random stories all the time. midterm was basically a simple quiz, second midterm involved us going to eagleton and doing a survey poll on people over the phone. no papers.
had him for public opinion, very easy midterm, straightforward, skimmed the book and got an A. 2nd midterm is going to eagleton for polling and final was 10 questions 10 lines in the blue book max. simple easy A, stopped going to class after a while, he's pretty funny and very understanding, just mumbles a lot
Had him a few times already. Very knowledgeable man on how the system work in all forms of legislation and judiciary. Sit up front as he does tend to mumble. Exams are a breeze if you pay attention. Never bought a book. Good stories and tries to relate to students. Get ready for many O'Douls and CSPAN jokes; maybe an O'Douls Amber Wheat as a treat.
Bert is just a fantastic man. He is passionate about what he does, he cares about his students, and he really does his best to inspire you to care. He makes something as boring as law and turns it into a spirited lecture that nearly intimidates you. I wish I could take this man for every class.
Great class, best I had at Rutgers. Not overly easy but if you do the work you will do very well - he definitely wants students to get A's. Makes boring subject come to life, has real-world experience in lobbying. Great man too, understanding if u need it. Very good with athletes (understanding when I had to miss) but good with anyone really.
He doesn't always talk about the readings, but they show up on the exam. He is hilarious though, I love him!
This professor is hilarious. He is funny and keeps you interested in the lecture. Although he goes off topic a lot he is easy to understand and will help anyone if they need it. The tests might not be the easiest but the briefs aren't that hard to do for him. He is understanding, and it turned out to be a great class.
Levine was incredibly animated, very well spoken, and extremely concerned about the success of his students.
Very easy class, and the instructor will do anything for his students. Such a great guy!
He's a great man. Acts almost like a parental figure to his students. There's a lot of reading that doesn't necessarily get covered in class, but they're on exams. He's a hilarious guy and the assignments aren't all that hard to do if you just do exactly what he says. Got an A in the class and made me more interested in politics
Levine is one of the best professors i have had at Rutgers. Is really funny and keeps class interesting. You have 4 written briefs but only have to do three, they are a real easy grade. There is also 1 quiz, 1 test and then the final. Class is easy if you go to class and read the readings.
He doesn't have slides or write down on the board. He tends to mumble as he finishes a thought so you have to sit close. Depending on your TA you could BS this class with atleast a C, but read the readings, know the cases and do good on the briefs because they are easy, but worth most of your grade and the TA's are somewhat strict on grading them.
Easy class. Be ready to work on your own, he is not clear with what is on exams or what readings that will be stressed.
Grade is comprised of 4 briefs (first brief is pass or fail), a midterm & a final. Attendance isn't taken regularly. Go to recitation! Levine tends to mumble a lot, be sure to sit in the front. Search the cases instead. The midterm wasn't even on any of the cases, actually .. unclear with what needs to be studied. Doesn't believe in a review sheet.
Passed the first brief (you have to), 89 on the second, 95 on the third & 90 on the last--don't bother reading them, they're all famous SC cases; use google. Got a 77 on the quiz (which was actually the average of the class). Then somehow managed a 90 on the midterm & was then exempted from the final and received an automatic A. Progress >
this class was the biggest waste of my time. just took it out of interest and it brought down my gpa. so much reading is assigned and its so boring i gave up on it quick. he mumbles and rants like crazy so boring. its not like it was that hard it was just too hard and too much work for what the class shouldve been
Professor Levine was the most helpful professor I had this semester. He has a wonderful sense of humor than endears students, including myself. He teaches the material and expects that we know it -- in that sense he also expected a lot out of us. I'm glad he attempted to make students think beyond the obvious.
This class was incredibly boring to sit through and I felt as if I only learned things at recitations. He mumbles a lot and he doesn't feel the need to inform you what will be on exams or what to study. He's got good intentions and a good heart, he's just not a good lecturer.
I had him for law and politics and hated the class. It was extremely boring and the readings are very dense. Attendance isn't really mandatory and the assignments (briefs) weren't too hard but the exams will be extremely difficult if you do not do the readings. Professor rambles and mumbles a lot in class and isn't very specific.
Go to every class because there are stuff that he covers thats on the exam that arent in the textbooks. He mumbles A LOT so sit in the first row. Do the readings, go to every class and if you dont get it then see him, he's very open to you coming for office hours
Levine is a great guy and really cares about his students. He is a little boring but if can manage to pay attention in lecture the exams are simple. Don't bother buying any of the books or doing any of the reading that he "assigns".
I had him for Law & Politics. It is mandatory to go to every class and you must do the reading to do well. If you do those two things you'll be fine. He does mumble so sit close and asks questions.
Bert, is a very awesome man with a good heart. However, his lecturing skills even though very engaging lack organization. His TAs are not all well-versed in the subject matter. He really cares for the student, but honestly when you take an exam its as if going to class was meaningless. The man has a heart of gold, but I think lacks in some areas.
Levine is awesome one-on-one but his voice fades in a big lecture hall and not everyone can sit up close to hear him mumble. One of the three required texts is pointless (Get Baum and Lawrence) and some questions on his exams are tricky or really specific. It's not an awful class and the TA's are alright but it is not an Easy A (maybe an easy B).
Eh, I can't really say anything good about him or the class. He seemed like a nice, funny guy during lectures, but the few times that I needed to ask him questions after class, he seemed unapproachable. I got a B+ with 98s on both briefs. Exams are real hard (although, to be fair, I did none of the readings). Not Recommended, but not terrible.
Lavine means well but wow. I would not recommend that anyone take an online class with him. The lectures are very boring and difficult to understand because of the amount of um's and ah's, additionally the powerpoints are full of spelling mistakes. He also seems like a very busy man and takes weeks to respond to e-mails if you aren't persistent.
Professor Levine's online class is fairly easy largely due to the structure of the class. 4 quizzes 2 midterms and 6 forum posts make it easy to manage work and do well. The lectures he posts are somewhat long but not unbearable. Put the work in and a good grade is almost guaranteed
RIP Prof Levine. Found out he passed away over the summer and while I took his class about a decade ago, I will always remember his legendary rant about never booing college players when the whole stadium booed the quarterback before Tom Savage off the field. Legend, RIP
