slow moving class, pretty dry
Sometimes contradicting, yet he was relatively nice. He wasn't really helpful.
could of made more of an effort to answer questions
Great Overheads, Notes available on the internet, but makes you sleepy
hard tests, easy paper marker, good guy
great if your and environmentalist, if not????
pretty descent - I like the course content
V. Hard tests. EASY papers. Zzzzz . . . Cute, tho'.
Bert's a great guy who genuinely cares about students
Aye. And I liked him, too.
He has got the greatest eyes!!!
Nice man, and those eyes......
Nice guy teaching a not so nice class. Internet notes are meaningless.
Great guy :)
Nice guy, boring class, notes on web are useless
genuinely cares about the subject matter

Friendly and helpful, but tough class, sometimes the notes are useless.
Great guy who shows a real love of the material, internet notes not useful
I reccomend a ride on the BerTRAM

Be prepared for lots of work. But he marks well. The class can be depressing, but take it in stride. Likes to use the internet to hand in assignments which was a new experience for me but a pleasent one. More Profs should do that.
For all you first years who think he's so terrible, try making it to your second year so you have something to compare him to. Remember, this isn't high school!!!
Terrible professor. Not organized with regards to the term project. Un-clear directions. Not helpful!
Super nice guy but boring as hell.

DRY HUMOR, GREAT CLASS
So anyone out there with a problems getting sleep, sign up for this class, this man has an amazing talent to lull even the most consious students into a deep sleep, but if you but in time outside of class to learn what was slept through its easy stuff
Weichel is boring and not funny, but his class is so easy. You really dont have to go cause he provides all the notes, which come directly from the text and his tests are so easy
Good prof, passionate about his area of expertise. Boring lectures, but as is all science.
If you hate writing papers, then stay away from Weichel in Geog 210. A paper every 2 weeks, and a term project alongside. Plus the final consists of a take home essay.
Super easy class, VERY boring lectures, notes need to be supplemented with text/lecture material, very helpful, diligent with returning e-mails, very easy labs. Don't take on tues/thurs, the hour and a half is way too long!
easy class. He is quite boaring and hard to understand. He often stands at the front of the class mumbling. He's a super nice guy and is willing to help. This class has alot of papers and a huge term paper.
boring, dry. Difficult to get excited in a class that could great if it were presented well.
Weichel is an awesome prof, with a funny dry sense of humour. Take his class, I recommend it.
Good Guy, presents facts well, that anyother person would be angry about. Very flexible with deadlines!,
horrible prof...so boring. i would definately recommend rod johnson instead!

pretty good prof. Tricky midterm and final.
Very unclear, tends to mumble and have conversations with himself. Does not explain difficult concepts well, but show us about 20 pictures for a half hour on the food chain process. Didn't we learn that in grade 2? Big ego and sarcastic. Expects way to much reading for a 1st year class. Doesn't represent the geography dept very well.
Bert gives good, clear lectures and really inspires thinking. When you go to him outside of class, he's always helpful and wanting you to do well, definately worth having as a prof.
If you are interested in discussing about human actions and their consequences on the environment then this class is for you. He is helpful and answers e-mails.He is soft spoken, but presents well.I found that most lectures was pretty boring but overall the class wasn't too bad. But you have to read the text and go to class to get a good mark.
this is what univeristy is all about!!!!!
The assignments were redundant, his teaching style dry and dull, and the class notes were written in a foreign language so I couldn't follow anything. The text book was my best friend in that class.
Co-teaches with Rod Johnson, So far I think they make a great team! We've had one lab so far and I found I knew way more coming out of that lab than I did going in. Two very nice guys who explain things so that even I can understand....Lotsa reading though.
The class I took was with Weichel and Johnson...honestly I don't know which is which but both were quite boring. Read the text, don't go to class cus you'll just look at a bunch of pictures. Very easy to get a good mark though.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.....worst prof I ever had. So boring and monotone. He and Johnson together make a great match because they can both bore the heck out of you. I would recommend another prof to anyone wanting to take this class.... BRUTAL!!!!
good prof. Alot of information covered. Tets were pretty hard and was very vague with expectations on assignments. Could make an boring subject somewhat interesting.
A complete joy. I loved this class. He's a funny man and understands the concepts well.
Not that entertaining of a class. Unless you are big into the environment do not take this class. EVERYTHING is taken from the textbook, but I still preferred to go to class instead of reading the textbook, because it is such a boring read. Answers on tests were pretty obvious.
Better than Rod, but still not great.
Still co teaching with Rod, the assignments I was getting 90-100's on, yet the midterm and final were tricky. fairly vague on assignments, Bert is very monotone and uninteresting. It's an ok class, but if you can - try another prof!
The thing that really bothered me about Bert was that if someone in the class spoke their opinion when asked, and it was not the same as his, he brushed it off and made people feel stupid. It goes for assignments too - if it's not what they wanna hear, don't expect to get a good grade. Rod was a little better, but not by much. BORING.
Dry and boring Take it if you want an easy elective Nice guys but really boring
Great prof!! Took the class during the summer and was very helpful when ever you asked. Lectures can be dry but gets the material across to students. Exams and marking is fair.
He is a really nice guy who tries to use humor but did not post the notes before class even when asked. He and Rod also failed to post most of the notes at all. The assignments arent hard but kind of unclear. The midterm was ok but the final was random stuff from the textbook that wasnt really discussed in class.
worst prof i have ever had hands down
Terrible class and he made it even worse. Find another prof!!
Teaches with Rod Johnson. Incredibly monotone and boring. He is one part of a ridiculously opinionated and arrogant duo who feel the need to force their beliefs and ideas on the class. Encourages class participation, but then dismisses opinions that don't match his own. Would not recommend this prof or take another class taught by him.
I took a summer 125 class with Bert and made it through decently (80), but I'm currently taking the online 280 course with him and Ron... it SUCKS!Very disorganized, GROUP assignments(for an online class?!), random marking, not clear about what they want, and hardly get back to you about any questions. Complete waste of time and money.
Dull and monotone. Forced his own personal views upon the students. If your OWN personal view was displayed in assignments, grade would be low. Must follow his beliefs and views in order to do well in class.
-Easy Marker
He was very opinionated and negative. Bi-weekly essays were easy and exams had little to do with class topics and mainly based on what was in the text. Definitely read the textbook, but the class is helpful for the essays.
Bert encouraging class conversation but can be condescending and narrow minded. His notes are useless since all of the tests are based on the textbook which is expected to be memorized. The assignments are very easy once you figure out what they are asking. There is no point in attending this class since there are no reviews or useful notes.
Good professor, just needs to be more enthusiastic about what he is saying.
Very Monotone, works with another prof for this class. lots of the test questions are straight outta the text. Assignments are very Vague. Quite preachy without an opposing or alternate view.Make sure to contribute in his lectures or be prepared for a group presentation assigned in the last 3 days of class
Tries to be funny but isn't. Tests were hard. Didn't post notes so it was hard to study for. Definitely relied on the text. The lab was pointless and horribly formatted
He and Rod Johnson and amazing profs. I'm an older student going back for a second degree. Compared to 15 years ago, these guys are VERY accommodating and just overall great profs. And yes, they do mark tough, but it's for your own good. Do the work and you'll be fine. Highly recommend!
Not the most helpful professor! Ask him what's going to be in the final and just tells you to read the book and that's it! what about some tips eh?! tests were hard and confusing and expects you to read the whole textbook and remember all the terms!
Not as outspoken as rod, but still a really friendly guy and makes you feel welcome. I will agree with other comments on here about how he isn't one for giving advice on how to prepare for a test. Just tells you that you should read the text book. Doesn't specify any focuses. But really, that is like any first year class. I enjoyed this one!
Really interesting class. Prepare for lots of reading and weekly short 1-2 page essays. The midterm was online, it was very tough. However, weekly assignments will boost your grade. Also the final is quite easy, there are many choices of written answers to do so if you don't know everything that is fine.
Not as enthusiastic, but he does his best to give clear explanations when you ask for clarifications. Very supportive when you need it and wants to truly help you despite his quiet, detached manner. I get that he does come off aloof and not the one to give tips on how to study. Best person to ask that would be Rod.
I took the online course over summer and it was a great course. I found the material very interesting and understand more about how things affect the environment. Bert was quick to respond to emails and provided feedback when necessary. If you're willing to put in the work and complete all the assignments then you should do well.
If you are a decent writer and willing to put the work in you are guaranteed to get a good grade. I've completed three of their classes and received above an 80 in each of them, but required more time than other classes. The material they teach is very interesting and it's always made clear what they expect from you.
Burt & Rod are the greatest. Burt is slightly more dry than Rod, but still great. He tended to lecture less than Rod did, but I enjoyed the lectures he did. The midterm was kinda challenging, but can do very well on. Assignments are easy - 90+ and going to class helps with em. Slides aren't posted for copyright. Multiple choice. Final is easy
Uninformative when it came to feedback and communication regarding assignments.
Midterm was brutal b/c it was completely unrelated to the lectures, and after the brutal midterm he kept emphasizing "this is in the textbook you need read more on this" That seems like their go to, really lazy teaching. Saved my mark b/c of the lab exam (surprisingly easy, could've something to do w/ bad midterm marks? ) and the research project.
The tests were not based at all on the lectures, so dont bother going. Read the chapters and go to the labs and you will do fine. Shouldnt have bothered studying for the final because it was all multiple choice that were ridiculously specific.
The midterm and final were very specific and hard if you did not have the entire textbook memorized cover to cover. Bert tried to be funny, but it just came across as rude and annoying. Would not recommend for this class. The lab and research project were pointless and a waste of time.
Do you like to be tested on random trivia? Because that's what the exams will be like for this class with Bert. Nothing on lecture slides were tested on and the textbook better be memorized word for word, cover to cover if you want a decent grade. IOW, avoid this prof at all costs. His grading is also inconsistent for assignment.
Bert and Rod may make it seem like the world is ending in geog 125. But overall is a very easy class. 6 essay assignments that you won't receive below an 80 and if you have any background knowledge in agriculture or enviroment don't even bother studying the midterm is very easy then. Class is boring but easy average booster
Took this class online, I did the bare minimum.. tests were fair. He was very understanding and responds to emails promptly. Would take another class from him.
Weekly essays, weekly discussions, HARD closed book midterm with questions like it was open-book. The "lectures" are >40 page pdf documents that we got every single week along with usually three >20 page readings to go along with the module. I was mentally exhausted after taking this class.
The way he structured this course was very poor, impersonal, teach yourself kind of thing. He comes across as rude and bothered by asking certain questions. He seems to be an easier marker.
This was the worst class I have ever taken. He teaches you useless things for his quizzes and expects you to know everything in his course without even teaching it. I would never recommend this class to anyone.
I don't understand why people think this is a hard class. If you put in even a small amount of time you will do perfectly fine. There were not many assignments and the quizzes were fairly easy. I would take this class if your thinking about it! You wont regret it
Online lectures were hard to follow sometimes. The textbook goes much more in-depth than the lectures and should be what you study for exams.
Dr. Weichel is a great professor, he responds quickly and gives great feedback. Moreover, the course is not difficult if you put in the time and effort.
The professor is honestly super flexible and understanding of missed deadlines. However, the class content is insanely tough for an online course w/ no direct support. The readings are long and frankly, boring. There are many assignments (weekly) and exams are tough. Sure, they are open book but you must put in the work to get a mediocre grade.
The course can be manageable if you put in the effort. The textbook is key, as the lectures don't always cover everything in depth. Utilizing resources like unstuck study can help with exam prep. Overall, a decent class if you're willing to put in the work.
This professor is extremely kind and understanding. We need more profs like him in usask. He is a very respectful and caring professor who is understanding of your life circumstances.
