Great class. Interesting lectures. Multimodal presentation style. Lots of grades: reading quizzes, a 4 part paper, smaller assignments throughout semester. If you're planning on or have children take this class. You won't regret it.
Wonderful teacher, provides a wide variety of ways to earn points. Very conversational during lecture; very relaxed and open to student comments and questions. Knowledgable of the materials, and explicitly links materials with "real world" experiences. Paper requirement is not difficult.
AWESOME Proff!!! She requires you to work but hey you do learn the subject. She is VERY clear, helpful and presents the information in a MULTI Modal method. Wording doesnt really do her justice!!! If you do the work she will make sure you get an A. Cant recomend her enough.
Awesome! Had her for Psych Thinking too.GREAT style of teaching!Relates material to you and real world keeping it so interesting, you dont want to leave when class is over. Shes personable and open to students and gives assignments that are not to hard but that you really learn from!
She took over class in mid semester, but she's great! Knows what the student wants. She makes the class interesting. Good professor.
you have a daily quiz on assigned chapters - just read and you'll do okay
She is so good at lecturing this class - you can tell she has a passion for children and it makes her lectures so interesting! The final is so much fun - watching, playing and talking to the kids - way fun class!
She is flexible, available, and easy to approach. She is a researcher that will lend you her knowledge and expertise for your work. Despite these great characteristics, you will still learn. Sometimes these things are mutually exclusive, but with her they are not. She assigns alot of reading but won't come down on you if you fall behind. Great!
Grades are not returned in a timely fashion. Her views are also slightly impossed on the class.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had! She run the class off of a point system, I got 6 points higher than the highest you could get and she @#$%@& me with an A- which should have been an A. Ahe gives so much work that she cant even keep up with it. She sucks and loves to hear herself talk. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
beth is helpful.she likes to hear herself talk and always talks about her husband and daughter.if psych is not your major do not take her thinking you will get an acceptable passing grade, and furthermore do not tell her psych is not your major, bc she will not be lenient.
Overall the class was not that hard. She is an enjoyable teahcer.

Great Class!Kept learning activities interesting and informative. All Lecture is done in the beginning of Semester, afterwards it is all READING of journals.Assigns debate teams for debate over certain subjects(research questions). If on the first debate team, beware she doesn't give you but one week to prepare, teams 2 and 3,you don't have to sweat!
Excellent teacher. Hard but fair.
She is one of the most helpful Psyc Professors. Doesn't judge you if you don't quite get something. Will sit down and go over it and over it until you do understand. Is going for tenure this year and I hope she gets it! Awesome Teacher and UHCL would definitely lose if they don't grant her tenure. Not to mention the students will lose too.
Her lecture style does not flow with the class. She gets behind in lecture and you don't have notes to study for the tests. She does not grade in a timely manner and often loses papers that you know you turned in. She will deduct points for the assignment being late even though she lost it!
There was a lot of discussion in class. She did cover the topics clearly. I didn't care for the in class debates. A lot of journal reading and comprehending. The midterm and final are just to show your understanding of critical thinking. Also a 10 page paper...
The class is tough mainly because we have to change our way of thinking. For the two previous remarks...she has you UPLOAD your work so no way shecould lose an upload. Obviously they didn't do the work and are not happy with the grade they earned so they need to blame someone other than themselves. Dr. Hentges is the easiest professor to talk to!
This lady is my advisor and I have never recieved an ounce of help from her. Asside from standing me up for appointments several times she has been completely useless to me as far as my goals in school. When I have met with her, she rushed me every time and made me feel unimportant.
She's great. She keeps a light-hearted, fun classroom, while still covering the material. This is the ONLY class that I have ever finsihed the text book in...she'll get your money's worth. There's pop quizes, lots of assignments, papers, and exams... but she's a pretty lenient grader. Good luck!
Her graduate lifespan growth and development class is not that hard but class discussion usually veers off topic. There are thought questions due every week and a midterm, paper, and final. This is not a bad class to take.
Quiz once a week, if read the chapter the night before--will do fine, drops two lowest. Interesting lectures uses her life as examples. Not very organized! If she says shes going to do something make sure she does it before semester over-she will forget!
Rushed yet brilliant professor. Uses real life, personal examples. Daily, informal, open book quizzes are a huge part of the grade. One research paper, no exams. Missing class IS NOT Recommended, she apparently DOES NOT allow make ups for any reason whatsoever... don't get deathly sick. Summer course.
What an eye-opener - it seems she feels graduates are competent enough to teach themselves this course. We had to read ungodly amounts(difficult articles and chapters), give questions each week that were never discussed. Class forum: She comes in and have a hodge-podge of class discussion. Midterm/Final-2or3 Q's Difficult Class Not alot of teaching
She kept the class interesting with relatable stories, made class interesting and lively during class discussions, very helpful and acessible when we needed help and had any questions. Good Class but hard, time consumming, but very doable.
I highly recommend her for child psyc. She gives a quiz every class. Take good notes and you will be fine. No research paper!
Fantastic teacher. In her master's Human Growth and Development, it is discussion style and she lets you guide the lecture. Tests are essay, but she gives you the questions ahead of time. Very lenient grader. Overall interesting and easy.
Excellent teacher. This was an internet and on top of it a summer course, so it was extremely fast paced and there was a lot of information that needed to be conveyed. Dr. Hentges is very interesting and uses real life examples to convey complex ideas. I highly recommend her class!
THE worst professor I've ever had. She's extremely unclear, unhelpful, and disorganized!! She piles on the assignments each week like her class is the only one we have to take. I did not expect an easy A, but I have never made bad grades in college until her.
I truely believe this maybe a gender bias class/prof. She is never fast at replying from emails. And she gets upset if you disagree and complain about anything. Either she's overload or just doesn't care. I would try to find somebody else to take.
This class has a ton of deadlines which I found hard to keep up with. There is a debate, a major paper, two essay exams, and online discussions - all are required work. The info is good and useful! But don't take this class if you are looking for a class to sleep through. She grades fair.
As the last person stated, she is hard, but fair, def. got my moneys worth, tons of reading, hope u don't work long hrs or ur in trouble
Must read book to do well in her class. She is a great professor and I love that she gives life examples. Test a hard but she would let our class do corrections to get half points back.
Class is laid out well but midterm and final are a bit much. Paper is clearly stated and teacher is helpfull.
I took this class in Spring '12 and I think it was the first semester that she had changed the format of the class to involve almost all group work. If you totally hate group work, then I would find out the format of the class before you enroll, but otherwise, it was different than any other college class I've had. But in a good way.
She is very helpful, clear and uses real world examples. She understands her students. Keeping a journal is helpful and easy. If you go to class, participate in discussions, and do your group work, you should make an A.
Didn't seem to care.
Dr. H was easy to understand and allowed for open discussion. She did require group work and it wasn't as bad because everyone is still responsible for their own grade. If one person doesn't do their stuff, you still get yours.
OK class. This is required for your degree, but I think it is a waste of time. Sometimes I felt like I was in Intro to Psych and others felt like I was in a graduate class. The teacher is not bad, but the class is not set up well. Group work ruined my grade due to bad group. Group work, paper, journals, but no tests.
Amazing class! She loves developmental psych and class reflects her interest. Weekly quizzes, group project, and tests. Open note tests. Weekly quizzes are online from textbook publisher. Easy A, but requires a lot of work. Loved the class! Definitely recommend.
Don't take her. We did all of our wk on mypsychlab therefore she barely taught & any wk we did hand in, she took forever to grade. Doesn't really grade based on what she puts in the syllabus. If you do, don't do the group project..pain to do & doesn't give fair grades. I rarely give teachers bad ratings but she isnt the greatest.
This class is based on group work and participation. Dr. Hentges is fair and offers help. The tests are take home questions but be prepared to spend 4-5 hours per test. In addition, the life analysis paper is time consuming but beneficial. I recommend taking this professor.
I took this course online and in the summer and overall I enjoyed it. Two complaints- MAC comp users beware. I have one and could not hear her lecture on PP which are required to submit. After she addressed the problem I could only hear 4 mins of PP lol! Also even with her feedback on though questions I could never get more than a C-very unclear.
I loved this class, there was at least one assignment a week however they were not difficult.
All on-line classes should be structured like hers. She supplied audio lectures for each chapter and notes PP's were clear. There were 3 test (one for each section covered) and 3 small, easy projects. If I had the choice, I would have taken in-class; the summer 8-week class goes by quick. Would take her classes again.
All on-line classes should be structured like hers; She provided audio lectures for all chapters. There were 3 test for each section and 3 easy projects. Notes and PP's were clear. If given the choice, I would have taken this class on-campus; 8-week summer class goes by fast. Good information and links to additional material.
2 Books to read at the beginning of the semester, wkly article assignments, 2 exams, 3 papers and debate. Overall, an awesome teacher, wants you to learn the material, very helpful when needed, work is not overwhelming but fits an average semester of assignments, participation required, take her advice and follow her instructions and you will pass
Weekly quizzes which come together for 1 test score, clear material, great lectures. Projects were fun.
This course is difficult to comprehend but psychological thinking is extremely useful if you are pursuing a career in any behavioral field. (also a required course). She is extremely fair, we all bombed the midterm so we had another midterm and the difference was split. I ended up with an A. She really teaches you to read articles.
This is her research, child development and psychology. So her lectures are more interesting, we had a weekly quiz (EASY), we did four home projects including making and describing a child's toy or game. Watching and observing children etc. Very fun and informational class. BEWARE, there is a GROUP project but it is quite easy.
She is OK, she moves very fast in her lectures. A little boring but if you attend class and do the work you will pass.
She is insensitive, ambiguous, sarcastic and condescending. When she asks questions to the class, she sits back and smiles as people raise their hands to answer, her response is always no, not quite. She seems to be the only one with the answer. She under teaches. If you take her your GPA will be affected negatively! Not worth it!
She comes across as cold and insensitive. Not very helpful in lecture. Sits back in class and expects students to know what she's asking. Asks ambiguous questions. Tests were difficult and ambiguous. Expectations unclear. Could try harder to teach and be helpful with questions, GPA doesn't matter. Don't confront her with questions, ask after class.
DO NOT TAKE HER. DO NOT TAKE HER. She is extremly rude. She isn't not nice to her students. She only makes you feel unworthy. Never gives you good feedback. Will find anything small and count it agnist you, just to make sure you don't get a good grade. will go through boring lectures fast and doesnt explain with detail what it is. You will be lost.
She makes you feel depressed most of the time. She will not explain, she will just go through the lecture fast and ecpect you to get it. If you ask her for help or try to anwser her questions, she will respond with a negative anwser making you feel very lost. Her "DR" degree has taken over her head, and she makes you feel like she is better than u
It is funny how everyone is saying the same thing. YUP, she will only set you up to failure.
Weekly quizzes, power points, and four home projects. Very easy and simple class.
Oh my goodness. There are no words for this lady. My advice is to RUN! Avoid this professor like the plague unless you enjoy having a professor that doesn't care about her students. Disorganized, unhelpful, and rude are words I would use to describe this lady. Do not take her.
It is true what others are saying. She asks questions and then sits back with a smug expression while students attempt to answer. She then rebuts with, "Welllll", meaning students can never be "correct in their statements or opinions. Her smugness and ambiguity ruined any chance of classroom forum and made it miserable to be there. Do NOT take.
Capstone class; not too difficult. Plenty of reading, final group presentation, and weekly chapter checks. Various in-class group assignments. Informative class, but at times felt we were on our own. Would have been nice to hear more lectures from her concerning the topics per syllabus. Plenty of room for improvement.
She did a very poor job on lecturing. Lets just say that we had a group project and everyone in the group except 2 of us changed their major to social work because she made them hate psychology. It is sad, a teacher is suppose to inspire students not make them hate, or bring them down.
This professor is not clear on her expectations and has the nerve to grade harshly on top of it. I WISH I would have taken a different professor and not stuck around hoping things would get better. Taking her course is the biggest regret of my college career. I would recommend any other professor at UHCL except for her.
Just getting around to rating this lady and I don't have anything nice to say. Not a good prof. at all and not an asset to the UHCL staff. Be warned before taking her.
Can't say I would ever take this lady again if offered. Probably my least favorite class and teacher.
She is very fair across the board, she is very understanding and some of the lectures are boring but you have to really study for the exams. Just pay attention, turn in your work and you will do fine.
Hands down a great professor. If you do the work and actually try you are sure to pass. Do what she asks and your gold.
Be creative, read, and go to class. Get an A
Found her class materials outdated, however, she is very friendly and approachable. Lectures just okay...
Dr. Hentges is a great professor who is very knowledgable in her field. I learned a tremendous amount in a short period. A lot of topics are covered and some are controversial however you learn about both sides. There are discussions and participation is required. One group project. For such a boring class it was actually interesting
She is very dry and rude when you speak to her. Her tests are impossibly difficult. Many classmates read every lecture slide, took detailed notes and read every chapter and still never made higher than a C on her tests. She gives corrections but even those she will count wrong. Do yourself a favor and AVOID TAKING HER FOR ANYTHING!!
When i read the comments i was scared to take her but i signed up and don't regret it. Her child psych is so interesting and its what she studied so she's passionate about it. You have 4 tests, 1 paper, and a reading check per chapter. she lets you correct your test and the reading checks count as extra points for the tests. You learn cool stuff.
Dr. Hentges Child Development class was a very interesting. She had us write a handbook instead of taking tests. I really enjoyed working on the handbook and made class more enjoyable. There was a quiz each time we had class as well as a few assignments. It was cool, if you come to class, complete assignments and read, youll be just fine!
I was concerned to take Dr. Hentges after reading the reviews. The reviews stated that she is rude, makes you hate psychology, and condescending. However, after taking her she is now my favorite professor! She motivates you and has helped me improve my research and writing skills. You do have to show up and work hard, but totally worth it!
Really odd but she is really nice! Always responds to emails immediately and does whatever she can to help! Class is usually centered around a short powerpoint that leads off on a tangent to a class discussion. You can't miss class because she collects the homework in person. Bring coffee in the mornings - it gets boring fast. No tests either.
I got my bachelors in psychology and switched to a masters in Social Work because THIS professor made me hate psychology. I am planning on getting my PHD in psychology and will avoid UHCL if this individual is still a professor there. I had never disliked a professor as much as I disliked her. Every professor at UHCL was nice expect her!! AVOID HER
Dr. Hentges gives great feedback and is very responsive. This class was very reading heavy - we read probably six full books, including one we had to write a paper over. However, as long as you put in the work you will get a good grade.
I don't understand the negative ratings Dr. Hentges has received here; she's been an amazing professor. Participation is mandatory, but if you can't participate in class discussion, you can write a summary of the class instead. Grades consist of a few tests (essay questions) and participation. I have nothing bad to say, I learned a lot and got an A
Dr. Hentges is amazing. I have taken two classes from her. The recent class Ive taken is the 4348, I also took psyc thinking with her. I made a 100 in her 4348 class. She is very clear with her grading requirements and as long as you read the materials youll be fine. She also met with me to help me with my grad school plans. 10/10 recommend her.
Loved Professor Hentges! She is passionate about what she teaches and encourages her students to do the same. Lots of reading in the class, but it was all very interesting and informative.
Professor Hentges is a great professor and really wants you to absorb the material. I took her for online lifespan and it was fairly easy but there is only 3 tests and 3 projects and then 10 one point assignments that only take about 10 minutes to do so if you did not do good on the tests it would drop your grade significantly.
I loved taking her PSYCH 2301 class. It was all online. You had assignments every week but you are almost always guaranteed an "A" if you do the assignments.
great professor & very passionate about what she teaches. lots of books to read & hard to access online. very very tough grader. will not accept late work under any circumstances even with a medical excuse she gave me a 0. wish she was more understanding of life but she was nice
Each exam is worth 25% of your grade. She grades harshly , so it's impossible to receive a high grade in her class. She will ask the same questions on exams that are worded differently. Lectures are pointless, we either watched videos or listened to podcast. Shouldve been an online class. Find another professor who will actually teach you.
She likes to monopolize your time. Expect to read A TON, watch a lot of videos, or listen to podcasts. Expect several discussion board posts. And long papers. If she grades weighted, run. HOWEVER- you will learn a TON of valuable information from her classes, so if you genuinely care about the topic of the class she's instructing, it's worth it.
Dr. Hentges is great! Her class is interesting, and she does a potluck which was fun. Her class consists of a weekly homework assignment, one paper, 2 written exams, and group discussion in class.
If you enjoy on your own courses (as I do) this is for you. Hentges makes questions based on the weekly reading and provides 3 exams for the semester. As long as you give a thorough answer and only pull information from the textbook then this is for you. I enjoy this aspect that if you are incorrect, she will give you points if explained it.
Great class, very informative and interesting. Although we had to write a 20-page paper that only was worth 20 points.
