Very clear. Don't skip!! Read the book!!!!
Very interesting for the subject. Never got sleepy in her class.
The online class w/ her is just too much work. Don't take her online class unless you plan to only take one class that semester. Her online class will require at least 25 to 30 hours of work a week.
Granted her online class requires effort although it is not hard as initially percieved. She's clear, understanding, helpful, prompt...in essence, amazing.
she was not helpful....very ****. dont take her classes.
She is hard. She does not know how to teach other mess with her hair like omg shes so out there. Anyways would not recommend her, because shes seems like she is but really is sneaky about it when it comes to her exams. She makes you think like wow its easy but NO WAYYY!
She is not the easiest teacher but if your major is psych. she is great. You will learn so much. The is no need for a book in her class, she puts all the notes on the board. Her exams are multi-choice. And if you study the notes you should do fine.

She is the worst teacher in the world. She is not suppost to be a teacher. First of all when She teachs, she does not have any confident. She give a lot of assignement within the semester which accout 20% of grade. The assignment is about the lecture she never teach.

Knows her stuff.
I think the previous bad posts were meant for another teacher, really. She is an excellent teacher, and, even more, her tests are the easiest that I ever took. For everybody looking to learn something and get a good grade in PSY as well, she's the perfect teacher. She knows her stuff, and she relates everything you learn to real life-very useful.
If you want to learn a lot about psychology, the perfect teacher is Dr. Lanthier. She is very helpful and easy to understand. I learned a lot in her two phychology classes.
She is very helpful when it comes to answering your questions. Pay attention in class, because ALOT of her quizzes, tests, exams are based on her lectures, your notes. The book and her lectures compliment each other. Very clear. Very good at comparing subjects in class to real life. She throws in funny and simple extra credit options in tests.
She is one of the best professors I've had thus far. I thoroughly enjoyed her class
This professor made the class extremely difficult when it was suppoed to be a fun class. She discussed everything from her dog to oprah but nothing pertaining to the class. My friend took her statistics class the next semester and had to drop the class due to the same experience.
She is frustrating/real tough. She wants you to study from her lecture/notes on the blackboard, the textbook, & her study questions on her Web site; when you answer something from the book, she mentions what she said in class & viceversa. You can't win. I've always been an A/B student & got a low grade w/her. She needs to revise her teaching style.
It was tough. They should tell you that you need strong math skills for this course, and she does not make it any easy.
Hum, what can say about this lady. she is very hard and boring. I will never encourage any one to take her class. Can you imagine, we had to do like 7 assignments online, 5 exams and attendance and yet people got D's. I dont' know what's the gain in a teacher watching innocent people fail. Well, you need to slow down teacher and revise ur steps, pu
I love her lecture, I think she is very clear. If you pay attention to the lecture you will not need to read the book. The only problem is that she can be tough depending on the class she teaches. PSy 213 is a lot of work!
She is a great teacher can be firm with the subject but great teaching style. The exams are usually from lecture and book. If you use the study guide from the website it's helpful. She can sneak in a few tough questions in her exams that leave you with "where did that come from. But otherwise great teacher.
I HAD AN EARLY CLASS WITH HER IN THE MORNING, SO THAT MIT HAVE BEEN PART OF THE REASON I DIDN'T DO SO HOT. SHE IS SUPER EASY BUT SHE IS SO BORING.IF U WANT AN EASY A BUT U HAVE TO STAY AWAKE.
This class is all about tests. Even if you got 89.5 as a final, you would still get a B in her class. She's a nice teacher but boooooooring as well and not so nice on grade. End of the story.
ah! a LOT of homework to do, and graded really difficultly! the tests arent worth many points, so if you get a question or two wrong be prepared for a D! Get a good grade on homework and you're set. Lanthier is really nice, a bit ditzy but it's endearing!
I believe that she is so into wanting to do an experiment that she fails to teach the class in a way that is set out by the book (linear fashion). We jumped around in the book, wrote papers on chapters that as a class was not studied. It is obvious that she has never had any of her work published or read the textbook that is used in the class, or e
Beth Lanthier is one of worst professors on the alexandria campus. She made no attempt to make the course interesting, she spends more time talking about are daughter than lecturing.
I wouldn't take Lanier ever again. Eventhough her test comes from the class notes, you should do well but if you miss class you might as well drop. I would recommend taking Lynch during the summer session online if you really need this class. Other than that she is totally boring.
If u dont kno every little detail from the chapters within the text as well as her lecture, u will not get an A. 25 points per test, u miss two questions there goes ur A. Awful, can't work with her, no extra credit, look for another prof. Scrutinizes her freakin' 9 page essay paper, which is complete BS anyway. Hate her, ruined my easy A.
Simply avoid at all costs. All her tests are detailed from notes and book. Only 25 points per test. Hard to get an A, if you have more than 12 credits in ur semester ur not gettting an A cuz u hav to really study. Study'n should only come w/ the higher level PSY classes. She'll only drop ur GPA, also, she has a 9 page paper worth 20% of grade.
She's cool. Hard to get an A though.
She is awesome. But for those of you that refuse to think she is not for you.
NEVER take this professor!!! Although I made an A in the class, she was horrible to work with. I really believe that she enjoys making "trick" questions on her exams and that somehow makes her feel smart. She obviously thinks that she is above community college level individuals. The WORST professor I've EVER had and I've taken 2 years there!!
She's one to mark down in your catalog......NEVER EVER TAKE!
She puts me to sleep.
I loved Dr. Lanthier's class. She knows the subject inside and out and is very easy going. I learned a ton and loved going to class.
Dr Lanthier talks about herslef ALL the time......I think she's got some psyc issues going on herself!
I don't know if it were the other negatives posts or what, but I thought she was great! Homework seemed like a killer, but statistics is no walk in the park. She was clear, didn't mind saying she didn't have all the answers, but she would find an answer. I thought she was cute. Give her a try.
GAWD she is so homely and broing.
Her teaching style is slide driven and lacks originality and maturity. She contradicts herself often which makes her tests a luck of the draw. She mistakenly labels "trick" questions as challenges. This is not a professor who is out to help and guide. Her "see I told you so" attidude will pull your motivation down. I would not recommend this professor.
Good teacher, easy to understand material, and tests were straightforward
The professor was one of the best I have had. I really enjoyed the class.
Dr. Lanthier is my favorite professor at NOVA. This was a very difficult course but she presented all the material clearly and explained everything very well. Having the slides available on Blackboard was very helpful and allowed me to prepare before class.
She gives study guides for every chapter, telling you what will be on the tests. Most test questions come from lectures, so take good notes in class. You can even drop your lowest test grade.
I had her for both PSY 201 and 202... She keeps it easy! All you have to do is attend class, pay attention, and skim over the chapter for review to get an A on her tests. I also liked her teaching method; she definately made things more interesting.
Dr. Lanthier is one of most encouraging teachers I have encountered. She genuinely wants everyone in her class to succeed and makes herself available to help you do so. She makes it clear at the beginning of the semester exactly what is needed of you to get an A, just do the readings, take notes, and take advantage of her online study questions.
Dr. Lanthier doesn't go by the book. She likes to pull test questions from the lectures and will often pull questions out of the blue. You can study your butt off but still get a C. Her lectures tend to be a lot about herself. Very blah personality.
one of the worst I've had at this campus! If you want to kiss up, she's the one for you.
What a dork....SNOOZE!
Very nice, fun and helpful. The class is challenging but if you attend class, do your papers and study for the tests, you'll do fine.
I can't believe some of the reviews on this site! Dr. Lanthier is one of the nicest and most helpful teachers at nova! I see a lot of people complaining that she's too strict, but I believe she just expects her students to put a genuine effort into her class! She's always very helpful and I learned SO much from her!
she so nice
nice..well she is nice i guess..but really i dont think she is very helpful. psych 211 was a difficult subject itself, but she made it even worse. DONT EXPECT ANY EXTRA CREDIT work! SHE IS NOT EASY AT ALL! AND yesssss a LOT of trick questions in the tests/exams. And grades really hard!!! The paper we had to do for the class was crazy hard!
Professor Lanthier claimed she was willing to help students however, didn't seemed like she cared much with the trick questions and strict grading on homeworks and exams. I dont recommend her to anyone !
I agree with the ones below, she's all slipping in "trick" questions. She says "she's easy to work with"...not so! Don't waste your time with this professor. Anyone would be better!
WHY????? Do your homework! Avoid her at all costs!
one word.......NO!
Good diverse tests, mult. choice and essay. I would recommend thi class and teacher.
She made the course easy and very comprehensive.
I had her for 201 and 202. Go to class. Test questions are almost all straight from notes. She gives review guides. Extra credit question on every test. Met me for extra help after class. Definitely recommend!
Statistics is HARD but Dr. Lanthier encouraged me. All of the notes are in Blackboard. We did lots of group problem solving in class, which helped a lot. She allowed open notes on the tests. Work hard, go to class, ask for help if you need it.
I wouldn't change one thing. Dr. Lanthier is a great instructore and I've enjoyed every class.
If you are looking to keep up your GPA, then don't take Dr. Lanthier! You can study everything and think you're 100% ready, then along come the trick questions! Take if from someone with a 4.0. If you're ok with a B or a C, then she's fine.
can a teacher ever talk about herself any more?!?!?! one word...NO!
There were no trick questions in my class. The test questions were exactly like the homeworks. You can bring in a page of notes for every test. Real world examples. I finally understand statistics.
don't take her please. find someone else.
NO! What a hugh B!
I agree with the one below...it's called psycology not "all about Dr. Lanthier". Do you really think anyone other than a kiss up really wants to hear all about you????? get a clue, you are NOT cool! not even to those of your own age!
I took a chance, didn't know any of them, next time I'll take ANY other psyc teacher!
I would not recommend taking this professor. Isn't psycology supposed to be interesting??? I did fine (A-) but I'm not taking her class again!
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!
Dr. Lanthier gave examples to explain research concepts. Many students also gave real life examples. They made the concepts very easy to understand. Definitely taking more of her classes.
She is super organized. She gave us review questions for every chapter that told us exactly what to study. The lectures made the book easier to understand. You have to learn a lot but the class is fun with lots of discussions.
shes a good teacher.. she expects her student to work hard for thier grades. SHes pretty easy-going. she gives study guides/questions to help you study for her test. Shes a good teacher
She knew a lot about psychology and was very clear in the lecture. Test questions were mostly from the class notes. She was kind and respectful to all students.
I wouldn't suggest her to any of my friends, that's for sure!
I wouldn't rate her as the worst professor ever, but I think she said some crappy stuff! I openly heard her diss NOVA and talk about how these "certain" kids have to go there. She sure makes it a point of saying that she went to UVA. Not all people can afford to do it that way. Made me mad enough not to take her again.
Yes ONE person who can't spell and won't take responsibility for his/her own grade rates her three times a day, over and over. Get a life.
I made an A. I put in more time with this class than any other. She is difficult to deal with by making test questions from out of the blue. You can study you butt off and still not know if you'll make an A. Lectures are not very interesting. She's a nice person but not the best professor. I'd find another.
I agree, she's OK but she doesn't seem to understand that we have other classes we are taking as well as hers!
Very respectful to all students. She put study guides on the internet, which made it easy to know what to study for every test. Most test questions came straight from our class notes. She allowed lots of discussion in class, showed movies, and let us ask questions. I am taking her other class.
I cant believe people wrote bad comments about her! Her class is really EASY because she gives you notes, and the tests are written right from them. I didnt use the book at all. If the notes aren't enough she also gives study guides. You have to be clueless not to pass.
Great teacher, fun and respectful. Took her for both 201 and 202. Provides study guides, recommend doing them, helpful for tests. Reviews most of the book material in lectures. Overall Great teacher....
Overall quality teacher, definitely knows material well, class is a straightforward college class, she does not try to trick you, basically takes her test material right from lectures with few exceptions. No reason not to take her, her lectures are often pretty enjoyable.
We are in the middle of semester and could not wait to rate her. She is the most fun and productive professor. Her test are off her notes and lectures she gives out in class. She does fun interactive activities and shows the class videos to make it twice as fun. The time goes by real quick. So you will not feel it. HAVE FUN! :)
Tests and Quizzes: Most content comes from lectures, so you must take notes. A few lamely written questions that you will only understand if you read the book. Essays: Very sharpshooting on her grading. Don't expect an A. Overall: She's nice but annoying as anything. i think she may be insane. ...
I wouldn't take a class with this professor again. Try another. This is not my only class, but she thinks it it....hours upon hours of homework. Tests don't always come from notes or book????
Great teacher...Test from lecture...Book is a waste of Money, you will learn but you must study and think.. She's also pretty entertaining with her loud outbursts...Overall was very pleased.
Worst ever! I worked so hard in this class & still got a D. She will answer your questions with questions & confused you on what you are supposed to do on certain things. WILL NOT RECOMMEND HER AT ALL TO ANYONE
Dr. Lanthier takes her role very seriously and expects the same from her students. She grades hard and is no nonsense - but if you put in the effort she will notice and work with you. She doesnt just give you a break, the more you slack the harder she is on you. Come to class on time, read, and use her website!
If you got a D in Psy 216 (Social Psyc) you have nobody to blame but yourself. I was in the class. There were a variety of assignments and each was posted on Blackboard. Very clear instructions. The tests were somewhat hard but she has study sheets that tell you what to study. Take good notes. Most test questions are from lecture.
The comment below this must be for somebody else. We don't have Psy 101. Dr. Lanthier teaches Psy 201 and there is NO homework. The tests are almost straight from notes (a few are from the book). The topics can be hard (lots to memorize) but she makes it very clear.
Very polite and willing to help those who ask. Likes to talk her family life with great example in relation to the topic. Great for those who are serious about psychology. Went over every aspect to make sure students understood everything they needed to know. HIGHLY RECOMEND TO THOSE WHO CAN THINK!!!!!!!!!!!!
I made a right choice to take psy 201 with her. then I decided to continue psy 202 with her. I recommend everyone to take her class. If you want to succeed in her class like me, take note in class and read a chapter review.
I wish all professors could be like her.Very Clear, I like her loud voice. If you listen to her carefully, you don't have to study alot! I highly recomend her!
Avoid her classes at all costs. She doesn't clarify how to do your research paper. Her grading is not consistent and she is not very helpful when asked questions. Her tests always have more than one answer and she doesn't explain well as to why her answer was correct. Apparently she is too busy to meet with students as well. Do not take this class!
The research paper was too loosely defined and she is too busy to meet with students. She picks her favorite students and favors them; only allowing these students to ask her questions after class. If you are not one of her favorites, you need to "make an appointment". Her grading is contradictory and non-consistent.
The only thing I can really complain about is the short answer questions on the test if you write exactly what she wrote for notes or missing a word she doesn't accepts it and gives either no points or a point.
One of the worst professors ever. She is very difficult and really doesn't care to teach the students and mainly uses the textbook. You might as well take this class online.
Very nice teacher but her exam is like... if you don't mind for your grade, highly recommended.
She really cares about her students. She provides online study questions and explains things clearly. Be sure to do the homework.
I her for stats as well. Very good teacher and fields questions well and shows how concepts are related to each other.
Dr. Lanthier is a solid professor. Her expectations are clear from day one. If you commit yourself to her class, you will get an A. Her tests are mult choice + a few essay ones. Explains concepts well and gives a study guide. Overall, I would definitely recommend taking her class.
I took her for PSY 201 and PSY 202. They were great classes with many interesting discussions. She is very clear with lectures that explain and give examples. Use the online study questions that she provides. They show you exactly what to know for tests. There are homework assignments online for the chapters. They are easy and help your grade.
she's great. she's very clear about whats on her exams and her hw are easy too. i think the ppl who wrote bad comments about her probably just want an 'A' handed to them. You have to earn an 'A'. just listen to her lectures, do the hw and you'll be fine.
She doesn't stay focused, the class should be called "All About Dr. Lanthier". It gets very frusterating and you're ready to scream by the end of the semester. Also, never avaliable outside of class for additional questions. I learned more on my own. But if you're willing to grin and bear it and learn on your own, you'll do OK grade wise.
She is a easy going professor and has clear cut expectations. If you do the hw, you'll do fine, if you don't--don't expect to get a good grade. Also, her tests are easy too--as long as you study and do the hw. I'm taking her next semester.
Did fine in her class with my grade but I put three times more work into her class than any of my other classes. I wouldn't take her again if you have other classes. She likes to throw out some confusing questions on her test that aren't in the book or discussion. I'd advise to take a risk and try someone else.
There is online homework for each chapter. As long as you do it, you get 100%. There are study guides for each test. Test questions straight from those. She knows a lot and allows for lots of student participation.
I will not take her class. She is not clear on assignments any assignment you do she will say its not clear. Always talk against virtual class. Very tough and hard on grading. I will not recommend. Half way to the class many people withdrew.
Very unorganized and unprofessional. Doesn't know the material she is teaching asks her husband to help her with the material. Take another professor for this class.
I could not be more confused with the test questions, and assignments. It did not matter how many times I read her instruction and how hard I tried to follow each instruction my grades were not what I expected. Also, I am teaching myself absolutely everything. reading a ton and still as confused as the first day of class. I would not recommend her.
