She was wonderful. No quizzes. Just presentations and a take home final. Just pay attention to her, follow her instructions and you'll do great.
COM 1010 with Professor Seplow was an engaging and fruitful experience. We learnt quite a lot of things on how to give good, meaningful speeches and she was quite supportive throughout the entire speech preparation process. I have built so much of more confidence in my ability to give speeches through her class.
she is the worst professor i have ever see. if english is not your first language, you better drop it. other wise she will asks you to go to TFCS at least once a week. and you will lose a lot points for your pronunciation. trust me. if english is not your fist language. stay away from this class.
I dreaded public speaking and avoided speech class for so long. However, after taking this speech class, I feel much more confident about speaking, especially with the help of Professor Seplow. She is very caring and very motivating. She made me feel comfortable with speaking to a room full of strangers and I appreciate her for that.
Proff. Seplow is truly amazing and inspirational. Although she can be repetitive which is really her only flaw, she is a sweet heart and cares about her students. She assures everyone gains confidence is public speaking. I would take again even if I didn't have to. Easy A if you prepare your outlines and practice your speeches.
Prof Seplow creates an environment that's unjudge-y and comfortable. The class itself is pretty simple. There are a few lectures on how to convey your speech and format your outlines. As long as you follow her directions and practice, you will get an A. Also, she takes attendance as soon as class starts.
Professor Seplow is a sweetheart and genuinely cares about her students. She gives extra credit and she's always advailable to help. She's a fair grader and does not give you a hard time as long as you do what needs to be done, which isn't demanding. Take her you won't regret it!
Excellent professor! Very helpful and very nice.
Speech class can seem very stressful but professor seplow makes it a very manageable experience. She is patient with students who are nervous but by the end of the semester, even the most shy student was able to give a speech comfortably. She is lenient with grading and loves her students.
She's very lively, and her class is always a joy to be in. She has very fun activities and games.
Overall Professor Seplow was amazing!!! She is the most caring professor that I have ever had, she understands students and she creates a wonderful learning environment. If you take this class you will have (because it is a speech class) but she understands and will be generous in grading.
Four speeches, one take home final ( easy straight out of the textbook) A little hard to understand during lectures, clear specific criteria, cares for students.
Professor Beth Sephow is an excellent professor. After taking her class, I felt more comfortable speaking in front of a group of people (this is coming from someone who is terrified of public speaking). She is available outside of class (both through email and phone calls) which is something I appreciate. Take her class if you can!
Professor Seplow has empathy on her students. She understands the fear of public speech each student will have. I received much encouragement from her because she always pays attention to our advantages, even if sometimes we do not perform very well. The way she teaches is also interesting.
Professor Beth Seplow is the best COM1010 professor. She makes it clear what she wants in the speeches. There are 4 speeches and 1 take home final. She is a very generous person and wants to help you succeed.
Professor Seplow is one of my favorite professors i've had. She genuinely cares for students and wants us to succeed. She is somewhat critical, but she will always point out your strengths. Lectures do get boring but there are 4 speeches and a take home final. Overall, she's an easy professor.
Great teacher! Great class! Easy A! Professor is really sweet and caring! She is always there when you need her. She is very understanding. You must show up in class or you will be marked out and it WILL AFFECT YOUR GRADE! Don't be late to class. The guidelines are simple. Professor always tells you what you need to do to do well :) she is amazing
Easy class overall, she's super nice and makes the class easy. Tends to repeat herself a lot but other than that she's great.
She is a decent professor. She is mostly nice but can hurt some feelings at times.
She was really nice and understanding, lenient grader. You only really need the textbook for the take home final. If you can take her, take her, an easy class and if you don't pass you should rethink your work ethic.
This course helped me tremendously with my communications, organization, and presentational skills. She's a tough critic but wants you to succeed. All the hard work pays off at the end.
Good Professor. Just one in home final
I really enjoyed this class! Professor Seplow is very kind and understanding! She provides great feedback and is available to her students after class by email or phone call. I think my public speaking has improved immensely after taking this class and I highly suggest it!
4 speeches and a take home final. Just follow her instructions for the speeches and you will do fine. Also make sure you use a couple of case studies on your speech because she like those a lot. Her lectures can be a bit dry at times. But overall a great professor for com 101.
I can say that after taking her class I have become more confident speaking in front of a large group of people. In the beginning she gave us exercises that allowed us to know the people in the class so that we would feel more comfortable speaking in front of them. 4 speeches, 1 take home final you'll need the textbk/ebook for. Eye cntct important.
great class respectful environment
great class and respectful environment
Took the course during summer, have to be ready to work a lot, because there is not much time in a month. But the course worth it, very interesting and helpful, just be attentive and read your textbook! "It'll be over before you know it!" (B. Seplow)
Just come prepared and do your work.
I took this class over the summer and it was fairly easy. She tells you exactly how to outline the speches and it's not that hard if you try. There is one group speech and four individual speeches. A take home final. She hates lateness!
Great Professor! Had her class for the summer and it was intense, but she always emphasizes what she wants and what she needs from students. Just do your best not to be late and be prepared in class. If you try, the class really isn't that hard.
Beth Seplow is a beast, shes very straight forward and if you respect her she will respect you. Unlike other profs, she doesnt judge if you start off weak, she cares about progress. If you have the option to take her for comm and you dont then you should drop out
Professor Seplow made me feel so comfortable when giving speeches. This class can be very scary but Professor Seplow fosters an environment where everyone feels welcomed! Her outlines for the speeches are straightforward too.
Great class! If you are scared about speaking in front of people she will make you feel more confident and help you to succeed in class! Follow her instructions and you will be fine..
Beth seplow was a great professor she really knows how to make even the shyest of kids feel comfortable
Great professor, makes you feel comfortable and allows you to open up! Would take her again.
Professor Seplow is very fair and although the work isn't so hard, she expects you to do your best. I highly recommend taking her class; you really do learn a lot and practice skills necessary for a good speech. There is a straightforward take-home final, no tests/quizzes, 5 speeches besides the impromptu one.
Great professor
Professor Seplow may seem intimidating at first but she is extremely supportive and she grades based on the amount of preparation that you show and have put into your outline and speech. She encourages a friendly class environment which takes off a lot of pressure. In addition to the speeches, there is a take-home final; no mid-term.
Professor Seplow's class was honestly one of the very few classes that I enjoyed taking here at Baruch. Her class was very straightforward where you write an outline and give your speech while following her guidelines. Make sure you listen to her requirements for outlines and you will do great.
An amazing experience! would definitely take again!!
Wonderful professor. Make sure to take notes about what she says - some of those things might appear on the take-home final. She tells you to get the textbook but you don't need to as she doesn't give pop quizzes like other teachers. Eye contact is important in her class if you want to pass.
The professor might be intimidating at first shes actually a very nice professor. She gives feedback after every speech and is always encouraging the students in their speech. As long as you do the outline in the format she wants and rehearse your speeches you will do fine!
Public speaking is something that lots of people have a hard time with. Although she can initially seem somewhat critical, she is probably giving you good advice about how to speak. If there is one thing to take way, it's that speeches really can't be read from a page- this is might seem obvious, but everyone does it until they learn how not to.
Professor Seplow is really sweet! The class requires a large amount of work and research. 4 speeches and 1 take home final. Just pay attention, follow her instructions, be prepared your speeches and you'll be fine.
Take her! Hands down one of the sweetest and most down to earth people I know. Stop thinking and enroll in her class, you won't regret it.
she is an amazing professor, very kind and loving lady
She hates lateness so beware. You only need the textbook for the final so don't worry about it. She's very clear about what she expects from you. You can honestly have fun with the speeches and choose interesting topics, she'll appreciate that. She recognizes hard work so just do your research and present well and you'll get an A.
Professor Seplow is a sweetheart. She loves her students. Kind, caring, charismatic. Hands down best professor this semester. Easy take home final and 4 assignments during the semester. Definitely would take again. She creates such a fun learning environment, everyone becomes friends with each other. Love her!
Ms. Seplow was the best teacher Ive taken at Baruch simply because she spends time to mold each student in their own way
Im not a native speaker and Im afraid of public speaking, but she did everything she could to help me with my public speaking skills. Only 4 speeches and 1 take-home final, extra credits on speeches if you volunteer to do it early. She cares about attendance because she loves to see her students. BEST PROFESSOR AT BARUCH!!
She is a great professor. I would definitely recommend taking her.
She'll notice whether or not you put a lot of research into your speeches. As long as you put in the work, it'll be an easy A.
I absolutely adore this professor. She is extremely clear on all course requirements and assignments. She is always prompt and never misses class. She is also available to meet outside of class. The class setting is always positive, easygoing and comfortable. I will most definitely take more of her courses.
Just follow her outline and do work early for EC. I saw the way she treated her students in the beginning with respect and slowly built them up with confidence. Her favorite expression is " MY STUDENTS ARE AMAZING!!!!!" LOVE HER
Professor Seplow is the best professor! I would take her class again without any question. We had 3 group presentations, 1 written take-home final, and one 2-pg opinion paper. She gives back useful feedback and gives back grades the next class. Her class was super easy but you learn to become confident in your speeches. Attendance is mandatory!
Professor Seplow gives the best feedback and really cares about her students!! Best professor in all of Baruch!!! Just a couple of speeches and a take home test, all which are easy. YOU MUST TAKE HER!!!!!!
She is the best professor you will ever have! Must take her easy A! 4 speeches one group speech and one take home final. As long as you try your best you will get a good grade!
Clearly states what she expects in the outlines. Provides previous student's work as samples. Amazing professor, genuinely cares about her students. 3 papers and a take home final.
Very good professor. GIves good feedback and cares about students.
Professor is very caring of her students, gives great feedback, and sets a comfortable atmosphere for speeches. Grading criteria is very clear - 4 speeches, one of which is a group presentation, all require outlines.
Prof. Seplow is perfect for teaching a COMM class. Has a totally non-aggressive personality and is super welcoming to those not proficient in public speaking. Show up to class, act engaged, and give speeches with good energy and EYE CONTACT and you will do well. No written homework, just four speeches. Take her and enjoy all of her stories/advice.
Professor Seplow is an amazing and wonderful professor. Public speaking has always been something that I've dreaded, but she is very encouraging and always tries to make you comfortable. 4 speeches and a take home final. Professor Seplow gives good feedback and advice afterwards to better yourself for your next speech. A great professor!!
Beth Seplow is a real sweetheart with a lot of Brooklyn charm. The beginning half of class is a lecture and the second half is you breaking into groups to discuss your projects. You're graded on attendance, the 4 projects, and a take-home final. It's really a simple class and easy A if you follow the requirements. Txt book is needed for the final.
Professor Seplow makes everyone friends.
Even people who have given some mediocre speeches received A's. Don't be late, make sure you take notes (she will call you out), and attendance is really important. You're allowed two absences but you shouldn't have any more than that. Don't buy the textbook, get a PDF or take pics of someone else's for the take home final. 3 Easy group speeches
she's definitely a character, pretty easy course as well, enjoyed it.
Professor was really nice and easy. 3 presentstions with outline and if you dont procrastinate its really good. You need to be well prepared for the speech and not read it off the paper and its a guaranteed A with enough research
Profesor Seplow is really a great and super sweet COM teacher. Always gives ffeedback and advice on how to improve. It may a bit more challenging if you're not a native-english speaker, but don't let that deter you! Everyone has a chance to do well and succeed
Professor is very caring and cares about her students. If you try your best, and do your work their is no excuse for you not to have an A. Good professor. Teaches well, and gives good feed back. The class was interesting, and fun to attend.
Professor Seplow is great. Very dedicated and knowledgeable. Very sweet but a no nonsense professor, it is important to be on time and be well prepared for the three group assignments. I would definitely recommend taking her!
Excellent professor. Very supportive of her students. 4 relatively easy speeches throughout the course.
Prof. Seplow is a very easy teacher. She gives good feedback and is an easy grader.
Professor Seplow is a genuinely kind person. Her class consists of 4 speeches and we got a take home final. It is not necessary to read the textbook to do well, but it is absolutely imperative that you practice your speeches and make great outlines. These are the bulk of your grade and are easy to complete, they are just time consuming. Great class
Professor Seplow is such a caring, kind-hearted woman. Definitely my favorite professor at Baruch. She gives amazing feedback. Her lectures are quite interesting. And were not subject to choosing boring speech topics. Shell definitely make you feel comfortable if youre nervous or shy. Take her!
She is a wonderful teacher and is very inspirational throughout the course. Such a sweet lady and is very approachable and would help ylu with anything you need. Take her she is amazing , light grader !
Professor Seplow is a wonderful teacher. She is very kind hearted and respectful. If you follow her instruction you will be able to pass this class easily. She is clear very about what she wants and she gives you enough time to prepare. For the speeches make sure you make eye contact (most important) and follow her guideline for the outline.
What a great teacher, I enjoyed taking her this year for COM 1010. She really helped me get better at public speaking and at creating better outlines to do so. Highly recommended.
Amazing! I absolutely loved this course. Prof. Seplow is always there for her students, she really cares and actually teaches. I am finishing up this course now and I honestly have nothing bad to say, i've learned and grown so much thanks to her!
Theres 4 speeches (1 is a group speech) and a take home final. As long as you do your work and research, it is very easy to get an A. An awesome professor and I would highly recommend her for COM 1010.
Easy A, just cite your sources for speeches
Great professor, Very nice and generous.
Easy A as long as your on her good side. There are only 4 speeches through out the whole semester no quizes tests. Only one written final that is really easy. She gives out extra credit for every speech. Very lenient.
There was a group project that required at least 22 pieces of evidences and you are not supposed to share any information with your teammates and see them outside of classrooms. The professor is kind of disrespectful but always encouraging.
Very educational. If you want to become a great speaker take the course.
Only 4 speeches and 1 take home exam. She is nice to you at first but can be tougher throughout the semester. One essential skill you need to have for this class is how to do research since there is a lot of research needed to support your points in your speech. (One group speech required at least 22 evidence from research for each person)
She a nice lady. Like everyone said 4 speeches and 1 final. Cite your sources in the footnotes and practice before your speeches and you should be fine.
do all the work and prepare for your speech, then you will be fine
Two things: attendance and citations. There are 3 speeches, 1 discussion panel, and the final is take home. Don't ever come late. Have a lot of sources for your outlines. No readings, lectures are ok, and the final is so easy, ctrl+f and you'll find the answers right in the textbook. If you work hard and show her you care, she'll acknowledge it.
Took prof Seplow for the first summer session. She's nice and there is a big emphasis on citations for the speeches. Take home final. And didn't really need the textbook. Her lectures are full of information. Would take again if I could.
She is very understanding and so easy to work with. She gives good lectures (make sure you take notes) and make sure you are active in class. She pays very close attention to detail(s). I strongly recommend taking her.
very interesting way of teaching, I gained so much confident giving speech after her class. Take her if you are willing To spend lots time on your course.
Absolute sweetheart. Listen when she speaks, because the young bloods can use a life lesson or two. Textbook isn't needed throughout class, except for the take home final.
Professor Seplow gives good feedback and she is very inspirational. Her class is easy and very helpful.
A really good professor that know what she's doing. I would recommend this professor to anyone needing to take this class for a requirement or an elective.
Awesome professor. Straight forward class. 4 speeches + take home final. Its impossible not to do well. 100% recommend. Attendance is mandatory (don't be late)
She helps you become more confident in your presentation skills and is willing to help outside of class.
Just listen to what she asks for. Do your speeches, which she explains really well how to do it. Take home final. Go the first day of speeches for extra credit.
Creates a supportive learning environment and I would definitely recommend you to take her class if you want to improve your communication skills.
Be prepared for your speech and you are good to go.
Loved this course! 4 speeches, that can be prepared easily in a couple hours and a take home final. Very caring and creates a nice atmosphere. Don't use your phone, listen in class, participate a bit and you'll be more than fine!
Be prepared for the speeches and don't miss more than 3 classes or consistently be late and you'll get an A
Beth grades your outline and speeches, gives good feedback. Take Home Final. She really cares about you improving over the semester. Be confident and enthusiastic and it will be an easy A
Class should be very easy if you follow directions, writing down notes, and attending class. The final is a take home which is a breeze. The Professor is great at what she's doing and she also gives constructive criticism to help you improve in every aspect.
As long as you complete your speeches on time and try your best, your efforts will be recognized. Stay attentive in class , take notes, don't be late/miss class. She is very welcoming and understanding. Gives feedback in the end of your speech on pros/cons. You get extra credit if you volunteer to go on the first day.
Professor Seplow is great! English is not my native language and the past semester was my first one. I was scared of the thought that I had to deal with public speaking but the professor always gave me courage before every speech and made me believe in my potential. Speeches are easy, you just need to follow the outline and go prepared to class.
Professor Seplow is one of those professors who cares about your effort. She wants to see you improve, and critiques you so you to learn. The class helped me realize that I have an interest in Finance, leading me to major in it. Attend and participate in class, do not be late, prepare outlines with proper formatting, and you will do very well.
Professor Seplow has made giving speeches easy. I had a fear of public speaking and this class definitely helped me with it. Professor Seplow made a very comfortable environment encouraging out of the box speech ideas. I genuinely enjoyed the class and would recommend it!
Takes public speaking to another level. Doesn't use blackboard or anything of the sort. Everything is in class. Take excellent notes. Don't be late or miss class!!! Available outside of class :). Tough class but if you're trying to improve your public speaking skills highly recommend.
Professor has a clear grading criteria and the course is based on group projects. Groups are changing constantly, and the topics are not the classic easy ones ,for the communications classes. Therefore groups are challenged to find an interesting topic. I would take her again!
She's very enthusiastic about the class and very conversational with students. Gives a lot of helpful advice for public speaking and can be very encouraging. However, can be very critical sometimes towards students if they don't meet her standards. She's strict with attendance. 4 absences and she'll lower half a grade.
Just know your topics so you can talk for 5-7 minutes without blanking and only needing to look at your outline a little. Easy class but the research is a bit time consuming (as is any com class). Helps improve public speaking and you get to meet some great people.
Follow directions and you'll do fine.
Professor Beth Seplow is a very direct person. She is always there for her students to do inn class. And always ready to help you for anything but you need to work very hard in her class to pass it. I suggest all the students to take her class Com1010. Thank you for everything professor Seplow.
Amazing teacher! Both for life and for the course. The projects assigned were very helpful with advancing oral presentation skills and communicating with group members. They were also interesting! 3 group presentations, a take home final paper. Very easy
great professor who truly cares about her students
Very personal, puts time in to know the students and has a lot of activities to encourage everyone to communicate and be comfortable with each other. Is always available over phone or email. Is strict with attendance but find the free version of the textbook online ( is used for the final paper)
In essence, Graded by attendance (DON'T BE LATE), and 3 Group discussion along with a take home final. Follow the syllabus and her direction, you will do great. Group discussions can be time consuming for research, but hey that's college. I adored this class and the professor. She is wonderful & engages with each student.
ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY! she takes attendance on the dot. she is caring and her class is not too difficult just follow the syllabus
Awesome professor! 4 speeches + 1 group panel discussion. If you need to take COM101, TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!
Her lectures are pretty boring. Has a bad attitude. Loves gossiping about other students
Beth seplow is an indifferent professor. For someone with a lot of experience she doesn't seem like she cares and it reflects in her teaching. Class is boring, assigns a lot of work, and is just plain rude. talks too much about her religious affiliations. Hard to balance with the amount of work she gives. She also gives bad feedback. stay away!!!!
THE BEST PROFESSOR IN BARUCH!!! Gives great feedback, is respectful towards everyone, very interesting lectures. Makes you work for your grade but that's only for your own good!
Worst professor Ive ever had. Lectures are so disorganized that theyre useless and she seemed to repeats ideas over and over. I learned more figuring it out on my own. Workload is very hard to handle especially when taking hard classes. Gives terrible feedback and really does not tell you what she wants. Hardest professor in Baruch!!!!!
In my entire academic career I have never had the misfortune of encountering a teacher as terrible as Beth. Avoid this teacher at all costs. It is not only bad that she mumbles in class and is incomprehensible for the most part but this woman also insists on writing everything including HW's but her handwriting is that of a 3 year old.
Prof. Seplow is really sweet and caring and clearly has students' best interest in mind. The class is a bit of work with three group projects but she gives great feedback, is very helpful, and again, cares about the individual student. I would 100% take a class with Prof. Seplow again.
Awful communication skills. No clear explanations, jumps around a lot,her slides are not helpful at all It's a self-study class. She overloads her speeches
Talk fast, does not like questions --even though he answers them--, make some mistakes so be careful to keep the pace, will insist on the evaluations at the end of the semester like crazy! Lectures are really boring and you wont learn much. Would of loved to have a better experience to gain public speaking experience.
She's very vane. She speaks really slowly and enunciates excessively. You will learn about parties that she has went to, and her family. However, the class was pretty fun. She gives A- or A to everyone unless she hates you. Speak about topics that she likes, and pretend that you're interested in the class
Although I have nothing against her, she was one of the worst graders I've ever encountered. Normally, I would receive an A for any writing assignment so idk where she gets her grades from but I received no legitimate feedback. She also had a few things against a few select students, so make sure you get on her good side early if your stuck w/ her.
Such a nice professor. Would take again!
best professor in Baruch!
She is incredibly caring and lax, especially around the beginning of the year. In the beginning, everything is (relatively) easy. But nearing the end of the semester the workload will shoot into light speed. Overall, you will have fun in this class.
Avoid if possible, more work than necessary for an intro comm class. This class is research heavy, the professor gives 5 speeches and a take-home final. She is incredibly stubborn. For the speeches, she puts all the emphasis on having cited pieces of information and using the words "according to", ruining the flow of any natural speech.
She will tell it to you like it is. She doesn't mess around. She admires good, hardworking students and drills students that don't care. You have to earn your grade.
Shes very good honestly is college so work is expected but she makes the work fun. Is speech class so we do about 5 speech but is definitely worth it.
She likes her student
Fairly simple course and helps with public speaking. Listen to her directions and you should be fine. She gives great advice for speeches you do on what you did great and what you could improve on
4 speeches and one take home final. Remember to take notes in class and youll do well.
She's very caring, 4 speeches and a take home final based on his in class and textbook (that can be found online). So the speeches, cite your sources, show up, and participate, easy A.
She is a good professor and she is caring for her students. You have 3 group speeches and a take home final. Yes there is a lot of research for your speeches. But if you do them early and have clear communication with your group members it should not be hard. Make sure to not pick hard topics and you will get an A. Textbook required. Do your part.
4 speeches and one take-home final. Always available after class, a very caring professor.
Class is an easy A. 10/10 would take again!!
Professor Seplow gives clear instructions on what is expected for each speech and gives good feedback so you know what to improve on next time. She is also very caring and she can tell if you put in effort or not.
Charismatic and enthusiastic, loves her students, teaches an speaks in a way that allows her students to be comfortable to speak and learn. Her goals for everyone are to improve on their oral communication skills and be comfortable with delivering a speech. 4 graded speeches and 1 take home final which is based on lectures so take notes!
She is a very caring professor and is great at what she does. The class consisted of 4 speeches and a take-home final. As long as you do what she expects this will be an easy class. Highly recommend anyone take her since she is one of the best com professors.
Put in the work and listen to her lecture notes, and you will be fine in her class. She cares about attendance so don't be late or absent to her class too often. Only 4 speeches that may require some time and effort if you want an A- or A and 1 take home final.
Professor Seplow is such a sweetheart. I loved taking her class, she has a clear grading criteria: 3 speeches & participation. Just show up to class and you're set. Textbook not really necessary. No midterm, just a final.
I used to be terrified of public speaking, but she made this class less stressful for me. An incredibly fair grader and she takes into account stage fright. She loves participation and pays attention to who takes notes in class. There are 6 graded speeches and one take home final, textbook needed for final and for classroom participation. Take her!
great professor! take her class.
A nice lady, assignments are a lot of work but shes worth taking :)
A great professor who truly cares preparing her students for the real world. All that she requires is your attention and effort. She is truly a diamond in the rough amongst other professors who are only teaching for the check.
Very good professor! Three group projects plus attendance and a final paper due last day of class. Attendance if mandatory so please show up on time. Take notes, do the work and its an easy class.
She is a very nice professor, and helps you develop much better communication skills.
Professor Seplow is an amazing teacher. She will tell you right off the bat how her class is going to be like so theres no excuse for not knowing something on the syllabus. Shes easy to talk to and always encourages you to be more confident
Professor Beth Seplow is my first professor in Baruch. Best teacher ever! She is very caring and knowledgeable. Very kind and smart woman. 4 presentations and 1 final take home exam. Sounds like lots work but she makes it interesting for all of us. I learned a lot from her. 100% recommend professor Beth Seplow if you are serious about school.
Awesome professor! I learned a lot from her. An incredibly fair grader and she takes into account stage fright.
Great professor!!!!
I took Professor Seplow for Group Communications class. The semester consisted of 3 groups presentations, and a take-home final at the end. The group presentations were educational and fun. You just need to put in the work to write, and research material for your presentations. Prof. Seplow demands respect and cares for her students. Great class!
Amazing Professor
Professor Seplow will make sure that you leave her class as a good public speaker. She definitely makes you work for your grade but with her help and accessibility to students, it shouldnt be hard to pass her class. She is always willing to help with speech outlines and Gives amazing feedback. Would 100% take another class of hers again.
She is a very knowledgeable individual and has a great personality. Punctuality is important to her so make sure you are on time. The class really helped me to get over my fear of public speaking! I highly recommend taking her!
Loved her. She was a sweet and respectful professor. She taught me a lot and helped me gained so much confidence during my speeches that i didnt have in the beginning of the class. Definitely would recommend her
No homework, just papers, outlines and speeches. Easy class as long as you work on your projects ahead of time. No phones and participation matters in class. Shes strict on citations and in-text citations. She can be critical at times, so dont take things personal and accept and learn what would help you. Just do as she says and youll get an A.
definitely have to do put in the work for this class to do well. doesn't like students reading off outlines for speeches, but that's given because you need good eye contact. always be on time and prepared!!
Great professor!!! love her class
Professor is very caring. She is lecture heavy and final will be based on her lectures and some material comes from the textbook but the readings are not required. Very pleasant and keeps the clSs alive. Excellent choice for Com1010
Professor Seplow is a great choice. She is both a great person and a great professor. She really cares about your progress as a proficient public orator, and makes it easier in the classroom environment by making it a healthy and open space. There are fiveish speeches, and as long as you follow the desired rubric, you will do great!
Great PROFESSOR! She cares for students progress and encourages to do them better.
Great professor! She cares about all of her students and theyre development as students
The class is pretty easy to get a good grade in if you put in effort. There was 4 speeches where one of them was a group discussion in front of the class. You can call and e-mail the proffessor (within reasonable hours) for whatever issue you may have. The only exam is a take home final that feels more like a homework packet than a test.
The professor is very nice and gives feedback on all your speeches. Her class had helped me improve a lot and I am grateful for that. You also have to show up to class and take notes for the final.
Professor Seplow is amazing. She really does care about you passing. Theres one take home final but its pretty lengthy but definitely doable. Show up, participate, do the work, and dont take your phones out.
Professor Seplow was a great communication teacher, she assigned 4 speeches and 1 group project in which each member was graded individually. Participation is important as well as attendance. Super helpful and available by phone even during weekends unlike most professors. Would take class again.
She cares about her students and is easily accessible outside of class. Very tough grader, expects you to know everything even when she fails to explain what she wants specifically. Had to give like 5-6 speeches in the semester. Overall, shes a good professor but doesnt really help students that have trouble speaking publicly.
Great class overall. Attendance is mandatory since the take-home final is based on her lectures. The speeches aren't that bad, just be sure to cite your sources and make an outline. The outline is a lot of writing though, so make sure you don't leave it for the last minute since it's a lot of work.
A lot of group work. You will need the textbook for the take home final. I split the cost with another classmate. The rubric of the outlines and group presentations are easy. Didn't really take any notes in class since she likes to lecture a lot. Overall an easy class if you show up on time and do the work.
Very good professor, gives very helpful feedback on your speeches, encourages introverts to speak, 4 speeches plus a take-home test, highly recommended
Throughout the semester, Professor Seplow was amazing and always kept the students motivated to do their best. The lectures were very helpful. 4 speeches throughout, not that hard, just practice each speech thoroughly and you should be fine. Participate in class, and don't take out your phone unless you have the permission to do so.
Professor Seplow is an amazing instructor! She is well organized and is very clear about what she expects from every student. We had five speeches and one final. She is easily accessible outside of class and gives amazing feedback. You can tell she is passionate about teaching and she shows that she cares about all her students.
had 4 speeches because of Covid. Lectures were easy just sit there and look attentive. Extra credit for showing up on time and volunteering to time or go first in speeches. Speeches were easy to write just talk about a topic you enjoy.
truly a very Nice lady. extremely caring. love her. highly recommend! she is the best
I loved Professor Seplow's lectures! She always gave interesting lectures and was very supportive when we were giving speeches. I was always afraid of giving speeches and I believe I've improved a lot thanks to professor's support and feedback. Final is a take home which consists of some definitions from book/lectures and some essay. Amazing Prof!
Professor Seplow gives clear cut instructions to get good grades in her class. She is also accessible by phone and email. Amazing professor.
Great professor very sweet
75% -Speech (Follow her instruction you will ace it), 10% -Attendance, Punctuality, Class Participation, and Attitude, and 15% -Final Exam. Overall she's a nice and easygoing prof if you follow her instruction.
Professor Seplow is a fantastic public speaking professor. She is very straight-forward and gives great feedback. She deeply cares about all her students and even stays for a few minutes after class for questions. I enjoyed learning under Professor Seplow this semester and have grown into a better public speaker because of her hard work.
Class is simple if you follow the instructions, there are three group presentations and you are graded indicually. The ammount of work you put in, is the grade you will recieve. The final is based on the textbook and her lectures so TAKE NOTES and date them. You can find a PDF of the textbook online.
She is a nice professor, you just have to do the work and you will be fine.
She is a great professor. She will give you feedback after every speech. The textbook is only needed for the take home final. Overall, she is sweet and very respectful. If I could, I would take her again.
I highly recommend you take her for your communications courses, but you will have to work hard! She is well organized, always available, and super sweet.
Professor Seplow is an amazing and extremely caring Professor. Must take her class!
Professor Seplow is a great teacher and really cares about her students. She wants everyone to do well and get the A. I personally don't really love communications class in general, but hers was really better than what I expected. I recommend to take her. You will need to write 4 individual speeches though of your choice and work in groups.
One of the best professors. Super informative with her lectures and supportive inside and outside of classes.
Seplow is genuinely a sweet woman who just wants her students to pass. Theres a few speeches, super easy grader with those, and easy take-home final. SHOW UP TO CLASS participate with comments and questions after people do their speeches and it'll work to your benefit. Textbook wasn't needed (google for final). 100% recommend for an easy chill prof
Professor Seplow is very caring and wants us to succeed in her class. Participation matters a lot. She hates it when students are on their phones in class and she wants everyone to write her lectures down. There are 3 group presentations from which you choose the topics and a take home final. I learned a lot and improved my communication skills.
Loved Professor Seplow! Hands down one of the best professors at Baruch. I would definitely take her again!
Professor Seplow is very caring and wants to make sure everyone passes. Attendance is mandatory and she cares very much about participation. I took a summer course so it was only a few weeks long which meant we had presentations almost every week. It's an easy A.
Beth is a wonderful professor, if you're a Baruch student you should take her ! :)
The best way I'd describe the class of Professor Seplow is: Helping you to learn. If you participate in class and enjoy group assignments - this class will be perfect for you. The Professor keeps an open-door policy to help anyone who needs it, which is an absolute luxury at a college like Baruch. Overall would take Professor again in a heartbeat.
3 group presentations and 5 outlines based on your individual speech and group panel discussion. Because you have to present so much, you'll feel more confident in your public speaking abilities at the end of the semester. I don't know if she's an easy A, but I can tell you that it is easy to achieve if you just do the work. She loves her students!
When I read the reviews here before my class I was like this got to be fake- no way she has so many good reviews. Well it's not. She's literally the sweetest professor I have had at Baruch. She is always available outside of class too. Was my first summer class and I really enjoyed it. have to keep your camera on in class and final based on lectur
Despite being a concise teacher she frequently disrespects her students by shutting down their ideas. It made me afraid of participating in class which is bad for a speech class.
Professor Seplow was one of my favorite professors because she is very inspirational and she allows her students to grow as she's not a tough grader. If you put in the work you will get an A. We had three group presentations and she helped us throughout all of them and was lenient since we had to present on Z
If you try your best, she'll give you good grades. And she tries to give us extra credit.
Professor Seplow has been one of the few professors in my eyes who seems to genuinely care for her students. Having a com class online i thought was going to be unorganized at first but she has done an amazing job at making it interactive and enjoyable throughout. With her class, you definitely learn of many different mindsets and ideas.
Great professor that expects the best from her students. As long as you put in your best effort, she will see that and try to help you do the best you can.
She is a great professor. The textbook is only needed for the take home final. Overall, she is sweet and very respectful. If I could, I would take her again. She will give you feedback after every speech.
Professor Beth makes online class engaging and gives us extra credit for turning our cameras on the entire semester. She grades us on three speeches (inform, demonstrate, and persuade). These speeches allowed me to feel more confident in public speaking. She is available outside of class and is very helpful in giving feedback on your outline.
Prof Seplow is one of the best professors that I have ever had the pleasure of taking. She plays such a motherly role and gives constructive feedback after every presentation. If you want to further develop your communication skills, you need to take this class!
If you take her, DO NOT BE ON YOUR PHONE AND SCANNING THE INTERNET, she will call you out and deduct heavy points. Otherwise, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, Definitely take her, you wont regret it!
Great professor. During the semester, there will be one argumentative panel discussion, and two symposiums (one informative and the other persuasive). Each of these assignments is 25% each. The final is a take home final and got three weeks to complete it. In regards to the lectures, the teacher records each lectures and posts it on blackboard.
Professor Seplow is so sweet and encourages students to do their best. Since public speaking is hard for many people, Professor Seplow doesn't put anyone on the spot and always say reassuring words to help students be more confident when speaking. Definitely take her class!
3 group projects and a final. Pretty clear what's expected. Not a ton of work, just do the research for your projects and be a good teammate to your group. The professor's also super clear on what she wants, and easy to communicate with if you're having an issue.
Overall class was good, You will have to research a lot but its worth the time because you will learn a lot form the process of it.
One of my favorite professors at Baruch. She is so kind and understanding. Super super encouraging and always wants the best for her students. Highly recommend you to take her for your COM class. Other professors are probably incomparable to her.
Go to class. Be respectful, do your hw, pay attention, ask for help, practice A
Professor Seplow is the sweetest professor I've ever met. She gives 3 speeches in total and an essay for the final based on the textbook. She gives you great feedback on your speeches and boosts your confidence. I love how she cares about her students and compliments them after presenting the speech. Definitely will take her again if I can!
Pretty nice teacher. The assignments are not too long except for the speeches. Not too strict of a grader.
Overall, Professor Seplow is a polished, well-organized, and professional teacher who provided great feedback and created a class environment that was inspirational and comfortable.
the class is ok
Professor Seplow is very caring but a little too harsh. Overall, I liked her and I am sure most others did too.
She has been one of the most understanding and caring professors I've had during the pandemic and she is a really great person overall. She doesn't give any work besides getting the speeches done and reading the chapters. As long as you respect her, she'll respect you. I recommend this class!!
4 projects (1st panel discussion and 3 speech + discussion) each around a 10 pg outline, double space, adequate time to complete, great feedback (by phone call, very convenient and lovely- calling her cured my depression). Attendance at class time sharp and camera is a must. Pay attention or she'll really call you out for it. Personally an easy A.
Professor Seplow is a wonderful educator. Most of the work is group focused as this is a Group Communications class, but she is so thorough with the requirements and gives detailed examples. Once you follow the criteria for the presentations you will definitely secure an A. She gives constant positive reassurance and is extremely pleasant.
If you get on her good side you'll be fine. Just do your work and come prepared. Easy A.
Best professor I ever had. She is so caring. She really taught me so much. As long as you do your work and go to zooms (camera on) you will get an A. She would end class with blowing us kisses goodbye. She is really so nice and I wish I had her in person. Only class I took on zoom where I actually felt like I took a real class.
she is so nice and i would absolutely take her again. gives very good feedback on the speeches. only 3 main speeches and need to do a outline for each which is very easy. she gives a lot of extra credit for going first to present. she require you to have your camera on but give extra credit for that too.
She is very sweet. Would recommend.
She is the most amazing professor Ive ever had! TAKE HER
Simple class improved speaking and communication skills. The speeches were fun to do and easy to accomplish. Would recommend. Followed all the syllabus exactly.
would take this class again
Professor Beth Seplow was an amazing communications teacher. She always made sure the course requirements were clear and offered feedback for every speech prior to the actual day of presentations to ensure that you get the highest score possible. Also offered extra credit! Such a sweet professor to those who put in the effort.
Great class overall! She doesn't give too many assignments. Very helpful when it comes to speech outlines. You can send it in advance, and she can correct your errors. Professor does this to help us out. She's very passionate and caring. She made this professor bearable. Take her!
Prof. Beth is awesome. She is very nice and gives us a lot of feedback that can help us in our future in public speaking. We have to turn our cameras on, and attendance is mandatory. Homework is not a lot, is basically reading books, and preparing for the speech, which consists of 4 speeches in total. Really encourage you guys to take her!!!
She's personal and she cares about each individual in the class. It was honestly easier to get to know my other classmates and build relationships with them as well.
Professor Seplow is absolutely a caring professor who enjoys what she does. She is simple and straightforward with what she wants. Although there are some speeches to do, she fosters a caring environment to build everyone's confidence. Take her if you need to! She is such a sweetheart.
Amazing prof
An amazing professor who really cares for her students and always makes it clear what is expected. Gives great lectures and as long as you pay attention and put in the effort you will do great.
Her instructions are clear and as long as you participate and follow the instructions for the speeches, you'll pass this class no problem. There are three speeches in total and one final essay. None of the assignments are too time-consuming, as long as you put in the effort, you'll be fine.
She is a very nice and caring professor! The class is not hard at all, you just need to show up and do the assignments. She gives very good feedback and followed the syllabus exactly. Taking this course will definitely help with communication skills.
She's amazing with getting students to engage and participate. Learned so much from the speech and group panel discussion assignments during the course. As long as you put in the effort, this course with her is an easy A.
Great teacher. Will always be willing to talk on the phone to discuss any problems. Learned a lot from panel discussion assignments and talking to group members during the course. As long as you put in the effort for your speeches and making good outlines, easy A!
3 group panel discussions in which you need to submit outlines + 1 written exam at the end based on lectures/text- Make sure to take some notes every class. Camera on and participate, not hard even for shy people because the environment is very welcoming. Seriously cares for her students and lets you call. Very sweet and fun prof, rare at Baruch.
This class was a joke, she tries way too hard and gives students a hard time for no reason. Cam is required at all times, projects are long, boring, and repetitive. Be ready to waste your time the entire semester, DO NOT RECOMMEND STAY AWAY!!
Professor Seplow can be so sweet, but do as she says because she makes sure to have her instructions laid out clear. She does not like when she has to repeat instructions. Very laid back professor, but will embarrass you in class if you upset her. I recommend her if you follow instructions clearly and are always on time. Very lenient with speeches.
Her class wasn't so bad, I definitely saw an improvement in my speaking skills and I do believe I've gotten more confidence presenting in front of the class. She doesn't like to repeat herself twice but she gives a lot of feedback on your speeches. If you do present, you shouldn't be afraid to use flashcards to remember what you need to say.
Prof. Seplow was an amazing professor. I was originally worried about taking this class as I previously feared public speaking. Now with the semester coming to a close, I can say I have become more confident in myself thanks to her. If you see Prof. Seplow as an option for taking any Communications class, I encourage you to take it.
Professor Seplow is an amazing professor. She cares about her students and gives excellent feedbacks. There are 3 speeches plus one final paper. You can get a great score if you are prepared. She gives extra credits easily. You can get extra credits if you are the first eight volunteers to give speeches or you are the time keeper. She is the best.
As long as you show up and do your assignments, she will take great care of you!!
Prof. Beth Seplow gave me the material to succeed She has a strong but caring personality. (If you can't take criticism then don't take her) was a pleasure meeting a professor that truly cares about her students. She gives you the tools to succeed. She is caring but also bold. She's a true character. Would take her again.
Professor Seplow is the best professor I had so far. Shes attentive, funny, and really cares about her students.
get on her good side she has favorites other than that she's a little mean to people she doesn't like and super annoying
My favorite professor thus far. I literally loved being in her class. She always had amazing stories to share with her students and she always gave great feedback. She tells you how it is, so if you're sensitive, maybe she's not for you. I feel like she's made me a better speaker through her lectures and the feedback given after every speech.
Textbook is free. Expectation of lectures is provided and she is straight forward, kind, caring, and honest. She makes you comfortable with public speaking and offers words of encouragement. She is a stickler for punctuality and if she tells you to change something in a speech, listen to her. She can be particular, but its for your own benefit.
She's the most sweetest and honest prof. I ever had. She wants us to improve by giving constructive criticism and positive feed back. She can be strict but for the better and I really respect her for that. I have improved with my speeches and fluency of speaking in general. She also helps conquer everyone's fear, public speaking. TAKE THIS CLASS!
-Free Textbook -Must make 4 speeches throughout the semester (don't stress it!) -She's so caring (gives constructive criticism but gives amazing positive feed back that will help you) -She can be a tough grader but wants you to improve -Extra Credit -Knowledgable and Organized prof. -Very fun with exercises and activities TAKE HER CLASS!
Amazing Professor. Come to class on time, listen attentively to your classmates and Professor Beth, and let yourself learn the art of speech with a caring and professional professor.
Too strict and boring. I got baited by her reviews on this website claiming she was lenient. She takes off way too many points for little mistakes when grading speeches and lies about curving grades. Her feedback is very vague and just not helpful. Attendance is mandatory and even missing one class will likely lower your grade. So not an easy A.
Take this class! Based on group projects (I believe its 4 or 5 for the entire semester) the group projects are the only "homework" and you provide her with 2 outlines for each project and present them in class. She gives amazing feedback for each individual person. Truly a sweetheart, hilarious too, her stories are the best.
Professor Seplow is the kind of Professor whom you must take. She is very passionate about public speaking, she gives helpful feedback after each presentation. This was a 1.5 7 week course, so it was more work, but she took the time to understand her students and is always available outside of class as well.
Professor Seplow is an amazing professor. She is very passionate about public speaking and wants everyone to be comfortable in her class. Do not hesitate to take her! I have just completed a 7 week course with her (com 3021) which requires somewhat of a-lot of preparation and work in a short amount of time. Thank you for this semester ms. Seplow.
Non-native speaker don't take this class, otherwise she will let you drop from her class.
One of my favorite COM classes. If you can take her for either elective or minor, I highly recommend it.
Don't base your opinion on this teacher based on the reviews. I thought this professor was amazing. The class was a 7 week course of course its going to be intense. We had a new lecture every week, which were all easy if you did proper research and follow the prompt she gave you. She knows if you truly took the time to do your work and if you bs it
Probably one of the best COM professors at Baruch. Attendance is very important, and if you are always on time and do your work properly she will give plenty of extra credit. She understands that students are nervous about holding speeches, and she gives great feedback. It is an intense course due to it being 7 weeks, but this prof made it fun.
Professor Seplow's class was enjoyable for small group communication. We have 3 group presentations each worth 25% each. You must give in outlines, and she is super supportive while you do your speech and gives good feedback. She cares a lot about effort so make sure you practice your speeches, and be prepared for class.
Very kind professor. She is strict about attendance, but grades generously.
Don't take her unless you want an anxiety-ridden semester. While she is caring and wants you to succeed if you do something to upset her she will hold it against you. Attendance is mandatory, no tests just 4 speeches which you write outlines and have to memorize, one final paper(using lectures and textbook), and peer feedback discussion posts.
Gives good feedback and ensures that you succeed. There is a lot of textbook reading but there are also crucial points during the lectures. This class should be relatively easy as long as you follow directions properly and attend.
Professor Beth Seplow is someone whom you should take. Attendance is mandatory and participation is a must as well. You will be graded on 4 speeches and 3 of them require an outline and research. She gives helpful feedback. She is really nice and caring and generally wants to help her students succeed.
Professor Seplow is super kind and will be your friend. The class is easy with the majority of it being based on three speech presentations that must follow specific requirements. You won't learn very much from her lectures but the class will improve your public speaking skills.
Professor Seplow is a great professor. However in order to pass this class, you must give it your all by studying all the chapters in the free textbook so you can prepare for the final paper alongside the speeches itself. She is accessible after class through phone calls as well.
best com professor
She is a hyprocite. While she does mention that the class is a safe environment. She does not stand on it as she favors other students over a select couple. Not only this, but she publicly announces a persons downfall and embarrases the person. If you are looking to take her class, I recommend that you take a different professor!
gives extremely critical feedback but not personal, has direct but attainable requirements so if you cannot maintain that, you will get what you get, nice grader, understandable and clear directions, learned a lot for future life and business situations and she gave a lot of real life advice from her great experience
Professor Beth Seplow is very passionate about what she does however she is very unemphatic. If your taking her class make sure especially for the first week of her class to be on time!!! She will hate on you if your late and that is how she will end up knowing you as, the student whose late. She counts to the minute that you are late.
Provides valuable feedback and is always willing to help to prepare for speech. Would take again!
If you are a non-native speaker, it's better to avoid her. She tends to come across as condescending, is highly critical, and shows favoritism towards certain students. Your mental health will get worse. She makes an already anxiety-driven class 100x times more horrible
She give great useful feedback. She gives constructive criticism. As long as you follow all the guidelines to what she assigns for the presentations you'll be fine. But she is very strict on attendance, but overall treated the students like her own kids. She is a nice professor and truly cares about her students.
Make sure to arrive on time and be open to feedback.
One of, if not, the nicest professors I've ever had who legitimately wants you to succeed. She's old school and will tell you to put away your phone and laptop while in class. 3 group projects and a take-home final that she grades generously on. If you're minoring in com or majoring in it take this class with her as your prof. She's honestly great.
Professor Seplow runs a strict class, but provides great feedback. Stay on top of the speech requirements and use resources like the free textbook and unstuckstudy ai to succeed. Decent difficulty, worth taking.
Show up to class, participate, show your respect, and try your very best with your presentations and you'll get an A.
No idea why she's rated as highly as she is. Sure, she's an easy class but as a professor and as a human being: extremely impatient, rude, and lazy. Very condescending, marks you down for even being 5 min late and yells at the class as soon as she doesn't get what she wants. Overall, easy but difficult to tolerate. She's a “Karen”
Mrs. Seplow's class was well organized; she had great lectures, and you can tell she really cares for her students. I would recommend for anyone wanting to take an introductory communication class.
Very clear instructions when its time to make your speeches and outlines. Must make sure you are on time for class. Overall its an easy course 3 speeches and one final paper
Overall, the assignments are easy to follow, with three main speeches and feedback discussion boards. Be prepared with note cards for speeches and prepare printed outlines of your speeches. Read the syllabus, look at the grading criteria, and come to class ready to learn.
I think that she is a good professor. However, she can be a little harsh at times, and even slightly disrespectful. But, she does care about her students, knows everyone's name, and is always there on time. Also, she sends at frequent emails to let us know whether or not she is hosting her office hours.
She is old fashioned professor but still very good. She will challenge you to become your best. She can be tough grader but is very clear about what she want in the assignment. Need to be one time for her class and get extra points.
Clear and simple instructions for the 3 speeches and final paper. Follow them well and be on time everyday and you should do well. She's very nice, clearly cares about her students and teaching the class.
Strict but a good teacher. She will help you if you ask for it.
She's very old school and “by the book” so if you can't handle that maybe don't take her class. Come early every day if you want to stay on her good side, take advice, apply corrections and you'll do fine.
Seplow's class for 3078 is organized into 3 group assignments, with the first in the semester being the hardest. Take notes, since there is a final take-home exam based on her lectures. Seplow is an easy grader, but assignments are done individually. She could come off as abrasive to some, but this is subjective. Good class; lots of work.
Prof. Seplow's class isn't the easiest but by no means is it difficult. You are graded on 4 assignments of various requirements. You are allowed keynote outlines to help keep your train of thought. It is important to get on Prof's good side by coming to class on time and volunteering to go early when presentation days arise.
She's definitely a tough professor. Make sure to get to class early—it helps to stay on her good side. I ended up dropping the class because her comments came off as mean and discouraging. That said, if you're someone who thrives under pressure and appreciates a strict grading style, she might be the right fit for you.
Professor Seplow is a good professor, and she cares about her students doing well. There are a few group projects, and you have to go up and present for each one. There is a take-home final at the end. If you participate and do the work, she will notice it. Occasionally, she can be a tough grader and won't listen to other's situations.
Professor Seplow is alright. As a grader, she's pretty straightforward, not overly tough, but not lenient either. If you put in the effort and meet the expectations, you'll probably do fine. But she can sometimes make rude comments or embarrass you, and it's hard not to notice the unfair treatment towards some students.
Professor Seplow runs her class old school style, no computers, phones used in class unless necessary. There are a total of 4 speeches and the last one requires you to work in pairs. Sometimes she'll come off as rude but if you can brush past that, you'll be fine. Attendance is also important and she will complain about it if people don't show up.
