overall it is an easy class if you know something about music. the teacher is very nice and does a good job with this course.
she is the bomb diggity! Woo Hoo!
Teacher is a very good teacher for a music class. She helps students learn the material. Just somewhat pay attention in class and you should do fine. If you dont understand, then bug her and she will help you.
Fun class. You will learn more about Music. Test are not easy but not hard.
teacher didnt know much about class, insisted on students buying the book that she didnt use. insists that students go to a concert for a grade then gives failing final grade because of bad planning.
Really knows her stuff. Very helpful in and out of class; very accessible. Awesome teacher makes the material interesting and the class fun. Highly recommended.
my friends all told me to take this class because it was easy... well, things changed this semester. dont take this class if you know nothing about music!
Very nitpicky questions. Sometimes stuff on test that wasnt covered in class. Be prepared to read and be VERY creative/colorful on projects. If you're looking for a slack class dont take this.
Very erratic in her teaching. You have to pay REAL close attention to figure out when assignments are due. Test are extremely hard for a class of this credit hour level. Doesn't tell you what she wants on projects then grades down for not doing what she wants.
A huge background in music is not necessary for this course. The assignments outside of class are very simple. All classes start out by listening to music, and if you go to class, you know when things are due. Every student treated equally, and she likes boys from texas! Nice, understanding teacher!
She is a good professor. I had a great time in her class and would take her again if I could. She is really nice
The class isn't terribly difficult. Do the assignments as she asks as you'll get a good grade. Due dates for everything else are specified on the syllabus. My only complaint had to do with the actual students, who pay her little or no respect. The class seemed a bit chaotic at times.
Mrs. Farber has to be one of the nicest teachers on campus. she is very effective in her teaching style and is very helpful. its not a terribly difficult class just pay attention and you'll do fine. Mrs. farber is the best teacher on this campus. woot.
This was a good class. I would recommend. When it first started I was worried b/c I didn't know any of the stuff, was a lot better as the semester progressed. She is very lenient and extremely nice. Just get her to like you and the class is good.
I didn't know much about music, but she absolutely knows what she's doing, and if there's any problem, she always keeps an open mind and can change something if the whole class agrees. She tells you what she expects and if something is due, she'll make the announcement 2 weeks before and won't stop.
Very nice professor; do what the syllabus says, study, and you'll do fine. One thing - those in the class who had a musical background had an easier time and those who had no prior knowledge of music were sort of lost (something to keep in mind).
Excellent professor. She knows what she is talking about, and she actually cares about your progress during the class. Follow the syllabus and turn your assignments in on time. Highly recommend her!!
This is college. Nothing easy but if u read your book and turn the assignments you are almost guanrantee an A out of this class. Those who complain are just cry babies who didn't do nothing. Trust daddy, I sleep almost everyday in the class and I got an A.
Classes was always entertaining. If you take notes of what she writes on the board you will usually do well on tests. Going to 2 classical concerts was kind of a hassle, but no big deal really. I'd say the class is an easy B
DO not take this womans class! it is in introductory class that she caters to the 3 people in the class that are in her band- she needs to grow out of highschool! Anyway beyond this she is like learning from someone with extreme ADD which, I have- she is all over the place! DO NOT TAKE!
She is easy to learn from and very helpful. Listen in class and take notes. Everything written on the board will be on the test. She's hot and fun...what's not to like? :)
She is a great professor, easy to understand, unfortunately, she does not have much control over the brats in the class who like to cause a disturbance to those of us who are trying to learn. People with no music background should NOT take this class. I hated feeling like I was in a fourth grade class because she was catering to a bunch of idiots.
IF you know nothing about music, like I, she is more than willing to help you understand it, great personality. she is very helpful.
She made the class a very interesting experience. The class was laid back and fun but you have to study if you want to pass. She's not my type but got a nice smile.
Do NOT take this professor. Classes are unorganized and teaching structure is very sparratic. Do not take the course if you know nothing about music. My biggest complaint is that she makes distasteful jokes and remarks towards students.
She does not have any clear concept of teaching profession. A good musican but not a good teacher at all.
Professor Farber's class is very unorganized. To help with this, she assigns each student a number, and uses that instead of a name, but it hardly helps at all. The first half of the Music Appreciation course is Music Theory, and she doesn't explain it too well for students who have little musical background. The history portion of the course- easy
Horrible Teacher! She knows the material but she cannot present it in any sort of fashion. She is ridiculous about everything & nothing is ever accomplished in class. She does not give anything back so you never have a clue what you have in the class. Worthless teacher that should be fired, take any of the other classes & avoid this class.

I am not musically inclined but I learned a lot in the end. Stick with the class and do your work, you will be OK.
Avoid this teacher and course if you possible.
THIS WOMAN NEEDS TO BE FIRED. SHE IS JUST AWFUL. SHE IS THE WORST INSTRUCTOR EVER. SHE PRETENDS TO BE NICE AND WILL TELL YOU DO NOT WORRY THIS CLASS IS EASY JUST COMPLETE ALL ASSIGNMENT, THEN SHE WILL MISPLACE THEM AND ACT OF IF YOU DID NOT TURN THE ASSIGNMENT IN. BEWARE SHE WILL MESS UP YOUR GPA.
Don't believe the hype! She is not as bad as people say she is. While the amount of work and studying significantly outweighs the type of 3crdt class this is,she is more than willing to give you what you need to make an A.If you're not prepared to do a lot of work, avoid this class! If you love music and actually want to LEARN about it, take her.
Horrible teacher, take her as a last result. She is a nice person, but her tests don't reflect her notes. The folder system she uses is crude and can be lost which "would not be her responsibility". Midterm project (25% grade) needs to have a rubric that shows what your going to be graded on. The syllabus rubric is confusing and has not enough info
This teacher is really nice, but very unorganized. Her folder system to keep all your work is a mess so keep everything til the end of the semester, even graded tests. I wouldn't necessarily recommend her class, but its not the worst thing in the world. Her tests are hard and don't relate to the notes taken in class so make sure you read the book.
This course required more studying than I expected. The professor's syllabus and the online "help" from the book's website was key to my success.
A lot more work than should be expected from this type of class. The topics seem to not be so much musically inclned, so much as just awkward. the folder system, as said, is crude and ineffective at best, especially since she can use missing parts as an excuse to knock points off, even though you dont have complete control over it.
The class itself is very easy. You take notes and write down whatever she says will be on the exam. The homework is another story. You have to go to two classical concerts and write a two page paper for each about how the music made you feel, among other assignments. Going to one concert = fail. Side note: Everyone slacks on the midterm project.
Overall she is a great person. Great personality and very humerous. That said, this is not an easy A class. You must attend two concerts and write about them. Not going equals you failing. The tests are also fairly difficult, read the textbook and use online sources to study. Beware of the music theory test, if you dont pay attention, you will fail
I would recommend this class over any other "appreciation" class. She is entertaining and makes the topic easy and understandableNot too heavy of a workload except for the big midterm project.. Tests were kind of rough but all were open book (including final).
She is a wonderful instructor and actually makes her classes worth attending. If you use the online quiz to study, the tests seem pretty easy. I would recommend this class if you need to take an appreciation.
Stutzmann is a nice teacher. She knows the material and is passionate about it. Sometimes it's a little difficult for her to relay it to the students, but that's on a rare occasion. Most of her tests are open book, and she really tries to help students. Just don't piss her off.
I am total against courses that do not enhance the accounting field. As the oldest person in this class I have learned a lot from Pro. Beth Stutzmann. It has been an honor and a previlegde for me to be taught by a such a professional as her. I hope I meet more teachers of her caliber. Thanks for all you have done for me and other students. Thanks
She is a fun gregarious professor always has something humorous to say.The test were open book (but don't think you can't study)if you play music or interesting in a historical crash course from medieval to romantic I highly suggest this class over other ARTS (unless major requires 2 appreciations).
she is really a good teacher especially if the student puts effort to do what she asked them to do
She is a great professor. Very down to earth and has a good sense of humor. She really knows a lot about music and teaches it very well. Her lectures are dry and she keeps a good flow so you don't lose focus. You actually watch/listen to stuff on the computer
She is very spontaneous and random. Each class is different from the last, but she keeps it interesting. Grades are based on tests, weekly listening assignments, a midterm and two mandatory outside concerts which reflection papers must be written for. If doing work outside of class isnt you then don't take Stutzmann. Otherwise its a good class.
she is a great profesor. she is always willing to help when she see interest from the student. Her listening assignments are always fun and different.
Dr. Stutzmann was one of the best teacher I have ever had. She made the class fun with projects and playing instruments. She worked with the students. She also the students in any way she could.
Dr. Stutzmann is a great music teacher. She is very enthusiastic and passionate about the subject. As long as you show the initiative and you come to class she will work with you.
Dr. Stutzmann is the best teacher I have ever had. She loves helping students and will go out of her way to make sure you understand what is going on in class.
Dr. Stutzmann is a great, knowledgeable teacher. She's very down to earth and relaxed but certainly passionate in her desire to bring music into an engineering school. Pay attention in class and do the reading. Her tests can be difficult, but she gives lots of extra credit. Make sure you go to both of the required concerts as well.
Dr. Stutzmann is one of the most energetic professors you will come across. Her class is going to be the highlight of your day. She can be very helpful if you don't understand the material. If you do something to have a low grade in her class there is a high chance you did it to yourself.
I liked that the course allowed enough space for students to ?appreciate? music, and not be suffocated by theory. Dr. Stutzmann is VERY understanding, and will work with students in most cases. It is obvious that she is passionate about what she does.
Doctor Stutzmann is a great professor for music. I went into this class not knowing anything about music and I came out with a good basic understanding of music theory. She is very interactive with her students to make sure that each individual understands the content. Overall great teacher for the class even if you don't know anything about music.
Dr. Stutzmann is a great professor. She keeps the class engaged and the listening assignments that you do with the class is fun. There is a lot of outside work and a lot of reading, so if you don't feel like working hard, then this class is not for you. The lectures are fun, but they don't really prepare you much for the exams outside of the theory
She is a very good teacher who knows her material. She is very helpful during and after class. All she require is that you pay attention in class
extremely easy class take her. there is very little work
So nice I took it twice
Best music professor in the University system of Georgia! Must take History of Contemporary music is you get the chance!
I love this class
She made this class alot of fun. She expects you to do you part, but you will be rewarded with entertaining assignments and music knowledge you thought you'd never receive.
Great Professor just expects you to do a lot of work. It's not difficult, just time consuming. Overall fun class to take you learn quite a bit about music.
she is a great professor. she is always willing to help when she see interest from the student. her assignments are fun and different. one of the most important thing is that she has good professional ethics.
Dr. Stutzmann is very good teacher she knows everything about her field and loves teaching it she is easy to talk to and learn from i would take her class again if I needed to not.
I went into this class expecting not to take away that much from it, but surprisingly I found the class very interesting. Although I was not the biggest fan of the theory section of the class, I did enjoy learning how the music has evolved throughout the years. As long as you do the work and study for the test, you should do fine.
one of the best professors I have ever had. she is really sweet with a great sense of humor. her class is really interesting and she teaches the subject with a lot of passion.
I had a very hard semester, and she was one of the only professors at the university to understand my hardships after hours she even tutored me to help me with the assignments one of the best professors and one of the kindest human beings i hope everyone takes her class, she truly changed my outlook on music!
Great class. The coursework was plentiful but not unachievable in the time given. She gave every student a chance to complete every assignment and test regardless of due dates which helped a lot when balancing the loads from other classes. I would highly suggest taking this class.
She was the nicest teacher I had all semester. If I had some trouble with any of the work, she was willing to give me every opportunity so I could do well. She also knows alot about her subject. Truly a great teacher.
This was my favorite class the entire semester. I'm an international studies major and most of my interest are in political science. With that said I thought for sure I would not enjoy this class but I was wrong. Every day I looked forward to this class and how much fun it was. She really is the best and she helps you gain a love for music.
There was an easieness to the class. The professor was very helpful. Her information and notes were clear and understanding. I was really interested in exploring and expanding my knowlede on music appreciation prior to attending class. The textbook was easy to use online and the information was clear and understandable as well.
Very enthusiastic about the course material. Doesn't use the text heavily but it definitely helps to have as an additional resource. She gives lots of extra credit and creative assignments.
Actually cares about her students and makes the course very enjoyable. Great teacher
Very good teacher. Has a very good grasp of the subject matter, is very enthusiastic of the subject. Not a hard course if you do your work and study. Music we listened to was enjoyable. Got to go to concerts as well.
Great teacher, definitely well educated in music theory and music appreciation. If you do your work and go to class you'll do great. She also provides lots of extra credit opportunities.
The best teacher at SPSU. She is really easy and her class is laid back. The mid-term project is fun too. She is awesome and likes to joke around. She speaks english very well and is nice.
She was a great teacher! Really easy to understand and she gives a good deal of extra credit. And she's very lenient with assignments. Attend all of her classes and you should do well in the course.
Great teacher. She's extremely kind, and has a good sense of humor. She gives plenty of opportunity for extra credit. She also knows her material well and does a good job and informing students of information that will be on the tests.
The class is very enjoyable. She is a good teacher who is clear with what she wants you to do. If you spend the time doing the work you'll get an A. Good thing is there is not a whole lot of work to be done, however it's not just a free A. Overall had a great time in the class. If you're social the class will be easy.
She is a great teacher who has a good sense of humor. Makes the class very inviting and fun to attend. If you put the work into it and attend class, an A is almost guaranteed. Lots of extra credit opportunities as well. Had a great time in her class!
Professor Stutzmann is very professional when it comes to teaching Music Appreciation 2003. She has the humor, and talent to teach students from various engineering background at SPSU. I give my professor an A+
Professor Stutzmann was a very helpful teacher and attending the class was very fun! Lots of extra credit opportunities! Would definitely recommend her for this class.
Let me say this upfront, take ratings with a grain of salt- She offers extra credit for good reviews. That said, Im not doing this for credit, didnt need it. Class was fun, and she is very helpful, just a bit stuck-up. Wasnt too difficult, but she does require alot more work than i wanted to put into a throwaway core class. take it or leave it.
Professor Stutzmann is a very good instructor. She made going to class fun. If you listen in class and take notes, you should be fine. She also gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit as well.
Professor Stutzmann is a good instructor. She makes going to class fun. Class participation is a must in her class. Listen and take notes, and you should do fine on tests. She also gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit.
Definitely a great professor! Makes sure you pass the class by offering a ton of extra credit. Very knowledgeable on music and music theory. Gives her students her all at every class session. I recommend her completely, you won't regret it!
Professor Stutzman makes the class fun. She is super nice and helpful. She makes good use of visual aids to help you learn the material. The tests are more than fair. My appreciation for music has def. grown during this class. So much so that i want to start playing my trumpet again. I highly recommend this class!
I had a lot of fun in this class. Professor Stutzmann made the class fun with her use of visual aids and her passion for the subject. The tests are very fair. She is extremely helpful. I highly recommend this class!
Dr. Stutzmann is the chillest professor at SPSU. Her class is enjoyable, she is willing to help, and she has a genuine interest in music. I also have her for band, which is the one class I actually look forward to every week.
If your looking for a easy and down to earth class take this one. the teacher is funny and sarcastic, but she knows what she is talking about.
If required to take an appreciation class, take this one with Dr. Stutzmann. She's easy, fun, and hilarious in the classes. Always providing extra credit on her tests (easy extra credit at that) and is extremely helpful if you do not understand the material. Definitely got me more interested in the history of music!
This class was my favorite class of the semester. I came in expecting just to learn music history and i am exiting with better knowledge. I can now identify music by its time period and actually hear different things in regular songs. This class is a great class and the teacher is also funny. There is also ample extra credit fof your benefit.
Coming from a music background, this class wasn't really difficult, although you will learn a lot about music history. Dr. Stutzman is very nice and helpful and made the class pretty fun. If you need an ARTS class and like music or have any musical experience, take this class.
She was very knowledgeable(Dr.), open-minded, and used great examples to get the lecture across to us. Had a great experience
She is a very useful and helpful teacher with a positive attitude. Be sure to use the videos that are up on Vista because they are really helpful so you can understand the lectures better. Always do your assignments especially the concert and the midterm just in case you do not do well on the tests. Overall I enjoyed taking her class.
Not very clear. Weird midterm.
I've had her for two classes so far, but this semester she started an online version of her music appreciation course. I signed up for the in-person, though she doesn't teach in class, instead sending us home to watch her online presentations and submit everything online AND turn in a copy in class. There's a reason I signed up for the in-person!
I had her for Music Appreciation, and I've had her for band for more than 2 years. A little respect goes a long way with her, and though she's not unreasonable, she won't make accommodations just for the asking. Don't make her life hard, and she'll do the same for you.
She has made this class very easy. If you want an A show up everyday and do whatever she tells you to. Every Sunday night HW is due online; don't forget to do this!! Class is interesting seeing as how it is old music, but you can enjoy it. Do your HW and show up to class and you should make an easy A. If you don't your wasting your time and hers.
She is way nicer than the comments would have you think. However, you have to ask her constantly what your grade is. I ended up a letter below what I was expecting, and I'm still not entirely clear how. Also, I'd really like to go to class to learn, not spend two hours a week watching her video lectures. This wasn't a hybrid course!!
i don't normally take time to rate any professor unless am impressed . Dr stutzmann is simply amazing , she is very patient ,fun and makes music very interesting . at the beginning i thought i would not like the class but her energy is amazing , i loved every class meeting and most of all her communication and willing to help .love you Dr BETH!!
I was reluctant to sign up for this class based on comments here about Dr. S. The syllabus also sounded VERY tough. I found that Dr. S. loves her subject, works very hard to record video lectures, spells expectations out very clearly. If you work hard she'll make sure you make a good grade. Take her class!
The work in this class isn't all the difficult there's just ALOT of it. 6-9 discussion posts a week, youtube project, concert report, midterm project, the list keeps going and going. Only take this class is your'e going to have a ton of time on your hands
Professor continually made mistakes on grading and course content, which could easily be proved with a bit of research on the subject. However, she is very responsive and caring about her students.
Hardest class I have taken in a while. Unrealistic with work load. You are self teaching. No late work. She is now working at West Ga tech. I officially hate classical music because of her!
Very though grader but willing to answer any questions you have. Also, you get to watch a movie.
Very knowledgeable and passionate about music. Uses several different lesson and assignment types to keep students engaged with the material. Assignments are designed to guide you through the learning process and allow you to apply your knowledge, but are accessible to students who are not music majors. I'm sad I wont have Dr. Stutzmann again.
Dr. Stutzmann's class was engaging, with varied assignments that guided learning. While challenging, Unstuck AI and other resources helped me apply knowledge. Not a music major, but still found the class accessible.
Literally the worst class I've ever taken. I'm a classical musician, and this class made me hate what I love. Really, if you like classical music or music in general, I would NOT recommend taking this class. So many assignments makes you just start to hate everything about music and everything feels so transactional.
