Great teacher very helpful with anything you need. Easy classes too

She's attractive,smart,and a great teacher. like going to class was worth it just so I could see how she how closely she resembled natalie portman. The tests are easy if you take an hour to study. She presents the material in slides, but she makes it interesting. You have to show up because she has a pop quiz and its 4 attendance.

She so HOT!!!! really Hot!!!! and she turned the most boring class on ASU into the most fun and interactive course ever!!!!. by the way she gave out cupcakes on the last week of her class and i will never forget that. class was pointless but she wasn't,I recommend her to anyone who needs to take this class..you wont regret it. ^_^

She is really sweet and her tests are pretty easy. Just study the lectures and you'll do fine. If you ask her a question during the test, she usually makes it pretty clear what the answer is. You don't have to go to class, but she does a lot of group work that you get attendance points for. I would definitely recommend her!

Keep up with the reading. Her tests are half lecture notes & half from the textbook. She gives points for attending class sometimes. She is such a nice lady! Very helpful and wanted to help everyone. Our final was online & came from our previous tests!

I took her online course and she is just wonderful! She even emails us and post different topics on the discussion board just for fun. Her quizzes are only 12-15 questions and her exams are from the quizzes. She is so fun and easygoing. I would recommend her class to anyone.

She is SO GREAT! Makes it simple & straightforward. She's young, personable, super friendly. Took it online & never had a professor who treated an online class like a real class til her. She was always there, always eager to reply to questions, really listens to the class. I never felt abandoned or on my own at all. We all loved her! Take her!!!

Took as online class. She has taped lectures and book you need to read. Offers lots of extra credit in the beginning, but don't take this class for granted! It's easy to think you don't need to invest time in this class, but you still need to put some hours in every week!Very helpful, wants students to succeed, so talk to her if you get the chance!

Very clear. Some very random questions from the book were asked but she gave extra points on almost every exam. Always posted calculations after quizzes and exams so mistakes were easy to correct.

Overall, I got an A in this class. She is a really nice teacher and very helpful and quick to respond to emails. All tests and quizzes are questions straight from her notes, videos, extras, or textbook. A lot of exam questions are from statistical stuff in the textbook.

Took her over the winter session, thought it was going to be crazy. But she lays it out right in front of you. Self-paced, but keep up woth the readings, you could literally sit at home read a couple chapters, take the exam on that unit and get an A. As long as you read the text. There should be no reason not to beat this class.

Bethany is one of the best professors I've had at ASU. Her course layout is crystal clear. I was not interested in statistics AT ALL prior to this course, but now I find them interesting. She answers all questions promptly. Watch all the lectures. Extra credit on most assignments, quizzes, and tests. I don't know how you could get below an A.

Bethany is very responsive to her students needs. She is energetic and has an obvious passion for what she does. I took it as an online class and had to listen to lectures that were recorded. She speaks a little fast, but since it's online you can pause the lecture as needed. If you do the work in the course, you'll get an A.

This class was hard taken online over 5 weeks. That given, Bethany is probably the best online instructor I've ever had. Online. Clear expectations, easy assignments. However, if you are a strong writer/student, you may become very frustrated. Throughout the course, you work on a research paper. The feedback both from Van Vleet and the TAs is incredibly petty and often flat wrong. Even if you follow the examples precisely, they will still heavily "edit" your paper.

I love van vleet, this is my second class with her and she is definitely one of my favorite teachers. while her stuff isn't always "easy" she makes it really easy to understand. She keeps me engaged and I enjoy being in her classes, both of which have been online. I will definitely be taking more classes with her, she is such a great teacher!

If you're on the fence, take this class!! Bethany is one of the best professors at ASU, as she actually seems to (GASP!) care about her students. No textbook, group project is a pain but it's over quickly, and the information is (to me at least) interesting.

She is very consistent and nice.I only have two issues with her,I hate the policy of not really helping on the exam questions and I think she is not really fair on giving some people extra credit. I thought extra credit was suppose to be offered to everyone, guess I was wrong.except from these issues, she is extremely helpful else where and nice!

Straight to the point. She tells you exactly what she wants for each unit. There is one project and mainly just assignments and tests. A compile of test questions are given before the test. There is some work to this course, but it is fun and not too bad .

Amazing instructor! Keep up with the assignments and spend 15 minutes per day preparing for each exam and you will get a high grade. I have taken more than one of Professor Van Vleet's courses and I earned A's in all of them. She is very hands on and proactive in seeing her students become successful

Great teacher! She is super nice and helpful! Definitely take her for statistics. If you have her for Research Methods make sure your research project is super cliche (don't try to be original) otherwise it is very difficult to pass. My semester would have been much easier if I had chosen to do what I knew every other student would do.

I have taken several online courses, and this one was the best by far. She is very clear on what to do as long as you read the rubrics. The course is very well organized and the professor is open to help if needed. Tests can be challenging, but do all the readings (even the ones outside the book) and you should be fine.

I'm currently taking Bethany's statistics class, and have nothing but positive things to say about her. I was so nervous about having to take statistics and after reading reviews I decided to take her class. She not only presents the material in ways where you become interested, but you understand it. And she's always available if you need help.

The material is pretty tough, but you can tell she cares for her students and does everything to make sure they pass. The good news is there are no midterm or final, just exams at the end of each of the 4 units. I took this online and her lectures were engaging and very helpful. Do the readings, watch the lectures, ask questions and you'll be fine.

The class was pretty easy-unless you aren't good at writing, which is a majority of the class. Quizzes are based on lectures and readings that are assigned. I'm a student who has been on the 'Deans list' and 'Presidential/honors lists' for the past 3 and a half years of my college career. I've taken many face-to-face courses, and the equivalent amount of on-line classes. I took Bethany's SOC390 course and worked the hardest I've ever worked in any course and the same with SOC391. ONLY TAKE IF NEEDED!!!

Bethany is the BEST. I had her for both social statistics and research methods, two classes I was the most nervous about. She's extremely helpful, her online lectures are clear, and you receive feedback on your papers that allows you to make corrects and do well. Definitely one of the most positive experiences I've had at ASU.

LOTS of work and it's very tedious. You absolutely cannot procrastinate in this course. Book is great but is hardly used; it is needed though. Prof. assigns a lot of reading per section. This class drowns you with assignments and readings. Prof is VERY helpful but is "going 300 directions at once". Hard to keep up with her. Take face to face.

Dr. Van Vleet is awesome! Most helpful online professor ever, very open to communication and responds very quickly with helpful comments/tips. Online labs/exams can be taken up to three times. If you follow the book, do the work, and ask questions when needed, it's impossible not to do well. Would definitely recommend and take her again.

Bethany is a very nice and super helpful teacher. The class/subject seemed intimidating at first but the assignments are very easy! The tests can be nerveracking because you need a C or better to pass the class, but not too hard if you do your coursework/reading!

This instructor is amazing and presents the best syllabus to the class. By far she has been the most memorable and caring instructor at ASU. She is great at breaking things down and making learning fun. She makes you do more and extra work versus other instructors but well worth it she also gives many opportunities to pass her course.

I had trouble with the material while reading about it in the text but Professor Van Vleet does an excellent job of explaining the material in her lectures, so if you are not understanding while reading the text, hang in there, the lectures are extremely helpful. I took VanVleet for Soc390. I was worried to take this class, but thank goodness for her. She kept the tone of the class light and tried to make social statistics fun. She gave good lectures which was important because the book was unclear at times. There is a lot of work, but she gives enough time to get it done, just stay on pace.

I'm an older, returning student and was nervous about this class since I haven't done math in decades. However, Dr. Van Vleet is an amazing teacher who gives clear and concise lectures that are a great compliment to text. Definitely need to read and study but follow her timeline and you will succeed in class. This was an A+ experience for me.

I appreciate this teacher so much. She goes out of her way to help and explain things with such a motivational attitude. Stats is a TOUGH class because of the theories involved, but Dr. V guides and cheers you along. Workload: 4 units, each with 3 chapters; quiz for each chp (5 attempts); 4 tests; and hw. She gives EC often and there are no finals.

I've taken both statistics and research methods with Professor Van Vleet. I highly recommend her for both classes, very helpful, respond quickly, and cares for her students. The test for research methods class can be difficult, requires use of a Webcam while you take your tests. I'm pretty sure this is only because she want to watch you cry.

I had a really tough time with this class, especially taking it online. Professor Van Vleet really took the time to make sure I got through this course successfully. This was the toughest course I have ever taken, but I am so glad that I had such a caring professor that has her students best interest at heart.

Bethany's awesome! Her grading criteria's very clear, and she gives extra credit. If you fail a test, you can retake it up to 2 more times for partial credit. Dr. Van Vleet is INCREDIBLE. I was terrified to take this class and she made it so easy. You get 5 attempts on assessments, 3 attempts on assignments, and if you get below a 70% on exams you get to re-take them. This is my second class with Prof Van Vleet, she is great! SOc 391 much easier than Soc 390 although the research paper is a lot. She gives step by step instructions making it less difficult.

Professor Van Vleet is amazing! She's so kind and helpful. I bombarded her with so many emails asking questions throughout the course, but she was very willing to help. There was some stress over the literature review that was a part of the semester long research project but I got an A on that assignment so it all worked out in the end. Loved her!

I'm a journalism major at ASU and was so scared to take a stats class (I hate math). PLEASE take this class with Bethany because if you put in the work, you can get an A. I took this class online, so I never interacted with Dr. Van Vleet in real life. I did, however, do an honors contract with her over email, and she was always so nice and helpful. You can tell she really cares. 5 attempts on assessments, 3 attempts on assignments, and open note tests, she really wants you to pass and learn stats.

I took Dr Van Vleet (as she likes to be called ) as my first online course. At some point at course effect, I felt not passing the class. She is a tough grader and class just goes to fast if you have a filled scheddule already. Me as a mom of two and full time work had to choose between work or class. I chose Statistics as I needed to pass for CEP.

SOC 498 has helped me become a kinder person. I would recommend this class to anybody ever. It is very easy to get an A and it's also emotionally rewarding along the way if you read the articles and watch the videos for each module. Don't wait until the last minute to complete modules.

Dr. Van Vleet is an excellent instructor, gives timely feedback, and is extremely responsive to her students. I really felt like a Professor taught the class rather than the TA's. Statistics was a hard course but I felt the material and assignments were straight forward and she offered opportunities for extra credit if needed.

Stats is always a tough class but Dr. Van Vleet does absolutely everything in her power to help students & make the material as simple as possible. You get 3-5 retakes on quizzes, labs, & tests & she will let you know which questions you got wrong. Quizzes & labs are open note & open book, tests are open note. Best teacher I have had in a while. She gives you so many chances to get it right and learn from your mistakes, that its nearly impossible to fail this class. I was so scared to take this class, but kind and caring professors like her are what make a difference. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER! She's also pretty funny with her puns related to the class!
