Bethany Weber doesn't know how to teach. Her lectures drone on and on and she throws in random cat videos now and then. The cat videos aren't fun. She tries, but can't get anything through. You have to constantly check BBlearn for hidden surveys and projects because she'll never mention them in class until everyone is emailing her.
I fell asleep in this class every day Do your best to get any other professor
The worst professor I've had at NAU so far. She reads straight from her 60+ slide powerpoint the entire time, her lectures are boring, and I've definitely fallen asleep more than once. Be mindful of the syllabus because she'll throw in assignments that are a huge chunk of your grade without telling anyone.
Bethany Weber is the worst teacher at NAU. she doesnt know how to teach, she reads straight from her power point that she gets online. she'll throw in assignments in the syllabus that are a huge chunk of your grade without telling anyone. The only thing she puts on her tests are analogies she expects you to memorize from her lecture.
This professor rambles a lot off topic. Does not seem very knowledgeable about the subject. Does not answer questions thoroughly. Lectures are not really helpful, I had to read the book to understand the content and do well on the exams. I recommend taking this course with a different professor if you have the opportunity.
She bad with BBL, grading, getting back to via email waited 2 weeks for response answer when its to late. Test review not like the test at all random questions pop out she never went over.
A bit of a nerd, but Dr. Weber is extremely well-informed about research in psychology. She did an excellent job teaching my class, and her experience with SPSS made my research go so much more smoothly. She does expect students to know the material well, so I recommend reading the textbook and studying the PowerPoints. Class is challenging but fun
Dr. Weber is amazing. She knows her subject well, and gives excellent feedback to her students. Her tough grading on the research papers is extremely helpful, and taught me how to present my findings in an articulate way. To say she helped my research project is an understatement; she turned a garbled mess of data into an award-winning project.
Weber reads off slides, doesn't even know half of what she's saying, says things like "i think" or "i guess this happens". has lots of cat videos that don't relate to anything we do in class. not clear on grading & no feedback. her tests are nonspecific examples of scenarios. Get someone else, you won't do well unless you teach yourself.
I have an A in this class and I still would never take it again. Her lectures are the worst. I've fallen asleep often, but even if I paid attention it's all so dry and confusing that I end up having to teach myself anyway. Her test are ridiculous, they are all scenario based when she gives us no practice. Good luck and get ready to teach yourself.
Dr. Weber.. a sweet lady, tons of cat videos but overall in a lecture hall of 400 students. She struggled with getting her point across thus her lectures were unfortunately.. quite mind numbing. The book is "required" I never cracked it open and managed to get a B+. Read the book, and show up and you'll get an A.
Went to every class and still struggled. Very unclear and boring to listen too. Barley passed because of the exams.
She mumbles and rants a lot. She probably doesnt really know the material which is evident when she lectures. Its all powerpoints. I do not think she cares about anyone but herself. Overall one of my least favorite proffesors.
I got an A in this class only because I had taken Psychology in high school so I understood the material already. Her lectures are boring and unclear. Her tests are heavily scenario based which sucks. She usually will curve tests if everyone does poorly (which they do). Highly don't recommend!!
She is an amazing person, but not the best professor. Her exams are crazy hard and she teaches on a basis of how she knows the material. Dr. Weber does have office hours for you to attend and can go into more depth there, but if you do not understand the material and do not attend her office hours... you're SOL
The class isn't hard at all if you put in minimal effort. She's goofy and fun, and loves to include cat memes in her lecture slides. You can tell she really tries to be a helpful professor, and she definitely knows her stuff. She showed up to our exam in October as the Grim Reaper and it was awesome.
She breezed through the power points so I spent a lot of time going back through them (she posts them online) to fill in my notes. She writes stuff on the boards, but it is uncomprehendable. More than three absences and she will drop your grade. The class was fairly easy, lots of homework, and the book was not needed at all.
The class is simple. If you show up, pay attention, and do the assignments, you'll have no problem passing her class. She has an interesting way with exam grades that makes it easier to get a good grade even if you fail the first exam. Don't bother buying the book because I never did and never needed it. Overall she is a fun professor.
She is a nice lady but NOT a good professor. Dr. Webers class is the most boring class I have ever taken. She is VERY lecture heavy and I typically don't mind lectures but her lectures are another case. If you find yourself dozing off in class and want to look back onto her powerpoints good luck they are very diluted and hard to understand.
She is a very nice lady and she cares about her students but she is not a great professor. The lectures are a bit boring and some material is hard to understand the way she teaches it. The tests are kinda difficult too but she curves every exam and replaces your last exam score if you do better on the next one. Also, you don't need the book.
Lectures were bland or didn't make sense.
Class is really easy, it's a 101 so it's super basic. Weber does a good job at trying to connect to students and she's pretty good! She is a tad bit disorganized between all her classes and it's easy to zone out during lectures. But just pay attention enough in class and tests will be fine!
Prof Weber is nice, but pretty odd-ballish. Her specialty lies in decision making, which she is very knowledgeable about, however, most other concepts you may have questions about are difficult for her to answer and explain because she doesn't specialize in that specific subject. Be ready to read because the chapters in the text book are long.
She's a pretty good professor. She talks about her cats a lot but it makes for interesting class discussions. Some of the grading criteria is unclear for papers, but just make sure to go a bit over the length requirement and it should be fine. Tests are a little tough but the online quizzes help a lot to prepare because she overlaps on questions.
She cares about her subject but she is extremely boring and tends to go on tangents about information that is not necessary for the class or her tests.
I am currently taking this class, if you're considering enrolling in it for the following semester-- DO NOT. she is super fast paced, does not elaborate, assumes you know the material prior (although you only need psy 101) this is difficult material and a teacher like her only makes it 10x harder!! find another professor.
This class is new, but Bethany makes the class so boring. People are falling asleep and nobody understands why she has a 100 page powerpoint of just APA. She goes on random tangents and lectures fast, it is hard to keep up with. She makes me rethink my major.
This class is a waste of your time. As long as you remember info from past science or statistics classes, you will not need to pay attention in this class. I showed up everyday because it was a good place to stay focused do Spanish homework. You likely won't like this course. It should be 3 weeks for the content taught, but is 16 weeks instead.
A bit of a rambler and hard to follow lectures, but she really tries to make the material understandable. If you use literally all the resources, you can get an A.
There's a lot of menial work needed done for this class, as if the tricky exams, weekly tests and quizzes and hours needed to read the textbook to understand her lectures aren't enough, you have to do reading discussions and reflection essays. Lots of work with little payoff
I personally adored PSY255 with this professor. Yes, it is alot of work and neuroscience in general is not easy, but I was really able to grasp the content of this class really well. I found this professor extremely interesting, and loved coming to class everyday. I had no problem passing this class with flying colors because I put the work in.
Not much feedback on assignments! Class is hard as it is neuroscience. Takes a lot of time to understand and gets off topic during lectures.
I love Bethany Weber. Ive taken both her psy255 and psy290 classes. Psy 290 is a pretty boring subject matter, but she tries her best to make it interesting! Shes nerdy and weird and talks about her cats, which I love. To get a good grade in her classes, all you have to do is study her lecture sides before tests, and do all of the homework.
I don't know why there are so many negative comments about Dr. Weber. She cares about her class and if you ask questions she is more than willing to help. Obviously the lectures are material heavy and can get boring, but she really tries to make it interesting for the class. If you go to class and do the assignments you will get an A.
after having bethany for a full year, i can really say i love her! the topics of the class are difficult but she does everything she can to engage with everyone, and is always helpful outside of class! her cats tend to make an appearance in zoom classes which is always fun! one of my favorite psych profs at NAU!
super helpful, and if you take her with PSY290 afterwards her instruction is less heavy and she is more lenient. definitely will help with any questions you have, but she will not accept late work which isnt an issue. study hard for those conceptual parts of the exams + do the practice exams and youll be chilling.
Dr. Weber was a great professor. She cares a lot about students and her class wasn't difficult as long as you paid attention to her lectures, though that part can be hard. Her class was very lecture-heavy, but if you try your hardest to pay attention, you will do well!
Is a pretty good professor, the lectures are a little boring but easy enough to follow. She gives you plenty of attempts on HW and Quizzes. I use her practice exams as my main method of studying. If you can get a good grade on the practice exam, you can get a good grade on the actual exam
Professor Weber is difficult to follow and understand. She is very lecture heavy and can't explain certain concepts correctly. Her online exams were AWFUL. She purposely makes them super hard and had straight A students receiving D's. Do NOT take this class with her.
This is a very difficult course, and the professor seems like a very nice person. Unfortunately, her lectures weren't the most organized and she does answer questions clearly. She does assign textbook readings that relate to the pre-lecture quizzes, even though these questions are from the textbook you don't really need it.
Dr. Weber clearly loves psychology and math, she was very monotone during lectures which made it so hard to listen and pay attention. I went the entire year without using the textbook, but she does refer to it a lot. You could just find the textbook online for free.
I will ALWAYS choose her as a professor for a course if I can help it. Her class is predictable (you'll never be caught off guard by tests or anything) and she helped me understand a very difficult subject. Her lectures are important if you want to do well on the tests. Try your best to pay attention, take good notes, and you'll do fine.
Very hard to follow during lecture as she has a very odd way of explaining themes&concepts. I have taken her twice, once freshman year for Neuro, then again for Decision Making sr.yr. I have NEVER received C's on my college transcripts EXCEPT for those two classes. Her lectures are scattered and tests are incredibly detailed with "gotcha" questions
I literally do not understand how Dr. Weber has so many low ratings. While this class is not easy, if you go to lectures, actually take notes, TAKE PRACTICE EXAMS and pay attention, you will do great in this class, I promise you. I received 107% on multiple exams because she offers extra credit. Her examples are extremely helpful & include cats :)
Dr. Weber wasn't an awful professor but I did get frustrated with the lack of preparation for the exams as well as the lectures. There was not clear criteria for what we needed to know, so when an exam came up, I was very stressed and worried about my grade (exams were worth over half your grade). But, she did meet if I was confused on material.
AVOID THIS CLASS. She does not care about her student's safety or well-being. She made us come to class when it was snowing when it easily could have been online! She should NOT be a professor whatsoever because she doesn't know the material enough to teach/explain it. Every time someone asked her a question, her response was "I don't know."
Not a good prof. She does not go over the math we need to know for homework, quizzes and exams, she only goes over definitions in class and describes things like mean median and standard deviation over and over. She also speaks VERY quietly and hardly anyone could hear her. SI sessions are the only reason im passing.
This professor does not show enough examples to understand the math portion of the class. She vaguely explains things and answers most questions with "I don't know" or "Because it is". I think she assumes that everybody has a basic knowledge of statistics, but I had never taken statistics prior to this course so it's tough. Avoid this professor.
I believe this professor is a great researcher, but not a great teacher. When asking for examples, she often answers with "I don't know" and generally seems unprepared for questions outside conceptual aspects. I am not understanding statistics with her at all despite reading the textbook and attending SI sessions. Definitely avoid this professor.
Her lectures were pretty boring, but I think she prepares you for everything you need to know. She has a good understanding of psych statistics and I think she taught it pretty well. You work on problems in class which helps to understand it better.
Her lectures are very confusing and kinda all over the place
Comes off like she doesn't know what she's talking about. Lectures are confusing and boring, only a few assignments and tests do not cover content on the study guide.
Lectures were often difficult to follow. She gives study guide and practice test for exams but in reality, they do not help, the practice exam ends up being nothing like the actual exam and the study guides are difficult to follow and I found it to not be helpful and just a slap in the face if you are genuinely confused or don't understand.
Test are difficult, the lectures are difficult to follow, I was excited because she provided practice exams but it doesn't matter if you do it or not because the questions are completely different on the exam. The study guides are also difficult to follow. I showed up and took notes every class, did the homework, took retest and still got a C.
Lectures are so boring, tests are worded so confusingly, assignments are hardly relevant or helpful, and I felt like I had to teach myself the vast majority of the content. Such a frustrating class.
Dr. Weber gives students all the resources that they need to succeed. Make sure to do the practice exams. You get some extra credit on exams if you do them. The questions on practice exams are similar to the actual exams. Go to class and put in the time and you will be fine! She can be quiet when lecturing sometimes, but overall a decent professor!
Lectures move extremely fast and make it difficult to actually learn what is happening. She seems to only know what is on her lecture slides and doesn't explain concepts well at all. I stopped reading the textbook because the lectures will teach you enough if you are able to follow along and understand them. Good enough notes can get you a pass.
-confusing, boring, all over the place lectures -homework occasionally doesn't relate to class or textbook content, and when this happens, it is very difficult -had all the tests be online, at home, and open note, and changed it before the final to be non open note and on paper in class - crams in content when it should be dropped instead
boring and long lectures that don't really matter, good at stats but not a good teacher, tests are half your grade part in person and part at home- don't buy the book all answers are on quizlet or lecture notes
Professor W is a really sweet, genuine woman, but she is not meant to be a teacher. Her lectures are boring and confusing and she doesn't go over enough practice problems at all. Exams makeup 55% of your grade, and they're pretty hard. Reading the textbook helps a lot but I would recommend asking as many questions as possible and attending SI often
Dr. Web is such a sweet, genuine, and kind human, she is clearly incredibly passionate about stats and science. However, she is not meant to be a teacher, she is meant to be a researcher. Lectures are very difficult to follow and gain knowledge from. It's fairly easy to pass utilizing the internet, but I didn't learn pretty much anything.
Weber seems like a nice person, but shouldn't be a professor. Lectures are long & so hard to stay engaged with & grading is all over the place. If you take 230 you dont need to pay attention in this class to pass, its basically the same content but turned into word vomit. Hated the class structure & her teaching style, didnt learn anything useful.
This has been the worst psychology class I have taken throughout my entire learning career. Weber is an extremely boring and uneventful professor. She will talk the whole hour of the class with material that is tough to understand. Her handwriting on the whiteboard is nearly impossible. She wears a mask making it difficult to hear her. Do not take.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She cannot answer any questions. Lectures are confusing, better get the book and read the whole thing.
Very boring course- Weber doesn't usually make an effort to stray from lecturing to use any other forms of teaching in class. It's hard to focus and always an overload of lectured information.
She is actually a great professor!!! I have had her twice. She does Iclicker so participation matters. 353 was better than 230 due to content. It can get bland sometimes, but she is direct and you can achieve an A easily if you go to lectures and do the assignments.
She is quirky and can be a little boring in lectures but she tries her best to make a difficult topic interesting. It's neuroscience so you will have to study but her exams are very similar to the quizzes and her study guides are super helpful. I ended with over 100% because she curves exams.
Literally made us take a test on Halloween despite the fact our class goes until 7pm. Criminal.
I have never dreaded a class more. Her lectures are painful to sit through when she talks quietly and practically mumbles the whole time. When you ask a question she either redirects to another subject or talks down to you as if you should already know the answer.
Uses Iclicker for attendance, uses Inquizitive for most of your assignments. Long and boring lectures. Do not take unless you have no other choice
Just graduated with my masters and Bethany sticks out as the worst professor for ALL of undergrad and graduate school. She is unwilling to accommodate students for any reason and her lectures are hard to follow and scattered. It make sense in her mind but not to anyone else and her classes are 99% just her talking at students making no sense. 0/5
One of the worst psychology professors I've had at NAU. She ends up rambling half the time and repeating things during lectures that aren't necessary, mumbles too so you can barely understand her. The class is essentially heavy lectures, a couple of exams and some assignments here and there. I wish I had never taken this class, best to avoid.
Mrs. Weber is not meant to teach but is nice. The lectures are dreadfully boring and often don't make sense she doesn't elaborate any concepts. Lectures aren't well thought out and often feel like word vomit. It's almost as if she's talking to herself to understand rather than really teaching students. She gets off task and is always unorganized.
Her exams are worth 52% of your grade while everything else was just as heavy. Inquizitive is a difficult website that she relies on for 12% of your grade, and then reading assignments are 26%. I was at 95 in her class, then took one big hit on one out of three of her exams, bringing me down to a 71, while none of the assignments can bring you up.
If you care about your sanity at all, do not take this professor. Please listen to the reviews here. Lectures go at a snails pace and she sort of just talks at you, we've never once engaged in discussion. Worst professor I've ever had. People have left halfway through her class frequently.
Dr Weber's class had the most clear and concise assignments, lectures, and tests out of every class I have taken at NAU. Her lectures are very clear, but not always the most engaging. If you've taken biology and anatomy classes, this class will feel natural to you! I really enjoyed this class and would absolutely take her again!
I loved Dr. Weber do not listen to these reviews. Very caring and understanding professor. The tests are a majority of your overall grade but if you study for them using the study guides and take advantage of the days she has set up to answer questions about the test you will be fine.
While she is sweet, her lectures are incredibly long and boring—basically 80 slides for every topic. She also loves to mumble. A test-heavy class (about 50% of grade), but just study the slides and you'll be fine. She does try to get the class engaged, but she can't help that the class subject is just boring lol. Wouldn't recommend this class.
I would rather be struck by lightning then to take a class taught by her again.
NOOOOOO. Save yourself please it isn't worth it, change your major if you must.
Dr. Weber is respectful, very helpful if you contact her and great at putting her resources on Canvas. But she is a very hard lecturer. She moves at a fast pace(I recommend following along with her slides on a laptop)and she lectures as though there is no one in the room: she very rarely asks questions or checks for understanding. Be very cautious.
I took Professor Weber twice, PSY 255 and PSY 230. interesting person, easy to reason with, but in my opinion not a good professor. she talks a lot about random things in class for a while. sometimes when people ask questions she chuckles almost in a judgy way which i find rude and weird. do not take a class with her unless you absolutely HAVE to.
Please don't take this class. I saw so many people having meltdowns over her class. I would rather go online. She is not a good professor.
All these ratings are dramatic. If you go to class and pay attention, you'll do well! Her exams are straightforward, and I believe she curves them. There are some assignments outside of class but she grades fairly. This is my second class with her, and she is always happy to work with you if you communicate!! I love Weber
