Memorize your stuff, and you'll be ok.
She is very prepared, and makes the subject matter fun. Definately a teacher worth having a class or two with.
Wow i dont know about her.She knows her information pretty well. There are 3 teachers for this course and she is the best one. The tests are extremely hard and confusing. As a gen ed i wouldnt take it but i am a science major so i had to take it.WATCH OUT!
i wouldnt call her material easy by any means. My ratings speak for themselves.
Lectures are inconcise. She requires students to have detailed knowledge of a multitude of organisms, but does not present the subject matter in a way that details can be easily discerned by the student.
You have to turn yourself into a biology reference manual to do well in this course. She gives you so much information and expects you to remember every single word she speaks. I thought she was quite terrible, but I can see how a sadist might like her.
She waqs the most organized of the three teachers for this course. Her husband is also a teacher. I like him a bit better.
She thought just because she knew the stuff everyone else should have been able to pick it up with no problem. Her words. I just don't understand why people think this is hard stuff.
Its alot of info to know, but its bio kids- thats life. Shes a great prof. Has practice tests online as well as powerpoint lecture notes. Very organized and animated during lectures- kept things interesting. Very knowledgable professor + would recommend.
You'll do great if you actually go to class, she leaves out things on her online notes that can only be filled in during lecture. It's all memorization of course. She also seems to give a lot of extra info that never appears on the exams.
she is great, and her notes are very helpful
very helpful inside and outside of class, notes are very clear and easy to read & understand, loved her class and would take any class with her again
This class is difficult but she posts old test, if you study these you will do fine, for the final I found like 4 old tests and just studied those and I got an A.
Best teacher at NIU! Very clear and makes sure you know what is required. Lot of material, but also very interesting. Take her Bios433 class in the spring, very interesting course.
A great teacher! SHe had great notes and was extremely helpful. she also had really good study guides so you know exactly whats on the test...no suprises whatsoever.
Her class is one of the best biology class that i had at NIU. Out of 3 prof she is the best one to teach bios 205. Very organized and helpful. I would recommend every one to take her class... She is the best
This class is a total waste of time. Bethia King's old exams are basically all you need to study to get A's on her exams. She covers a lot of material fairly fast, but most of it isn't important to know if you don't care about the subject. Just know the bold words and practice the old tests. Annoying to have to take this course.
Wonderful teacher. If you go to class for her lectures and do the practice exam, you'll have no problem getting an A.
She is very helpful, although the class is a COMPLETE waste of time.
I had taken this professor as part of Bios 205 - out of the three (Dr. Becker and Dr. Toth were the other two profs.) - she was by far the bsest. I also did research with her - I think she is probably one of the best professors in the Biology dept. at Northern - anyone that has a grip just doesn't want to do the reading or the studying.
Really seemed to love what she teaches and tried to keep people interested. If you are a bio major you might as well go to class and get as much out of it as possible from someone who really enjoys it.
really good teacher, powerpoints and especially practice tests correspond EXACTLY to what's on exams--everyone seemed to like her best of the 3 bio205 teachers--she had the best notes in terms of how easy to copy them down, and she taught the most interesting material also(animals)
EXCELLENT teacher...really knows what she is talking about...has prepared slides that you fill in the blanks for in class so everyone is always at the same pace....exams are right off her notes, review sheets, and sample exams....she make time to ask if anyone has questions ...i would take her again...
Great teacher! Gives you everything you need to know to past the class. Practice exams practically hand you the exact answers to the exams. Don't really need a book at all if you come to class with the printed out power points. All you have to do is fill in the blanks in class! Very EASY!!!
Her fill in the blank power point slides made it mandatiory to come to class, overall shes not helpful at all and is RUDE! do not take her for bios 103 because the course was unorganized, wish i would have taken it with a better professor. She was very educated on evolution and animals for the most part.
King is awesome! She is really helpful & very good at helping you remember. She is always the easiest section of this class, I wish she taught all 3 parts! I'm a black student so don't think its a race thing! She's awesome!! SHE WILL HELP if u ask! Even with other sections!
She's a really easy professor. She's kind of odd and all over the place, but she makes things really easy to understand and even gives you ways to help you remember things. Definitely use the practice tests because sometimes she takes questions from old tests and puts them on the new tests.
Very good teacher! On blackboard, she posts power points of her lectures. The power points are fill in the blank so its best to go to class so you know what to write down. Study the power points and the practice tests she posts!!!
her powerpoint slides and study guides are incomprehensible, unorganized, grammatic/punctuations erros everywhere!
Wonderful professor! She genuinely cares about the student's understanding of the material and is very passionate about the subject. She goes over the material in detail during lectures, so I would highly suggest you attend so that you can fill out the power point slides so that they make sense when reviewing them. Overall great professor :D
Dr. King is approachable and thoroughly enjoys working to help her students understand the concepts of the lectures. Her phrasing on exams and study guides might be a bit difficult to interpret, but she's open to feedback and doesn't get offended when you ask her to clarify something.
Dr. King is a very nice person and she is willing to help out all students. Her tests can be tough because they can be worded oddly. She curves the class, which is nice. Be sure to go to lecture, it will really help! I would take another class from her again.
She is nice. Go to class, fill in the powerpoints, and you should do okay. Her tests are difficult as they are worded extremely odd. I failed the first two tests when I studied everything over and over. Just dedicate some time to this class.
Such a great professor! The class isn't a complete piece of cake, but if you apply yourself, you will do well. Make sure to attend every lecture, print the notes out before class (but take your own notes along with slides), and use the study guides she provides after every chapter. Would take again. One of the best taught classes here.
Bethia uses powerpoints, go to class and fill them in. She refers to a lot of examples to help reiterate the concepts. Tests require studying but she pulls 95% of them from her practice tests from each section so utilize them! Tracks attendance. You won't need the book. Including the final (cumulative) there's only 3 tests.
Dr. King is a fantastic teacher. If you show up to class and fill in the blanks on the power points you have your test material. If you dont show up to class this could be much more difficult.
Dr. King knows so much about entomology and is really passionate about it! The best thing about her teaching is that she cares more about you learning the material than about assessing, so she occasionally lets you re-do work.
makes insane study guides for her tests that are way too wordy and confusing and it's the same for the tests. She purposely tries to trick you and many questions on our tests had to be thrown out because she made them so confusing nobody got them right. She just goes off powerpoints for lectures and u just fill in blanks like in elementary school
Okay, Bethia's pretty cool. lectures are interesting and she really tries to bring in good examples. Be aware that if you skip class, you're going to need to get notes and then study them. Her exams are similar to the study guides SO DO THEM. No homework, but if you skimp it'll show on the exams. Pay attention in lecture and do the study guides.
Dr. King knows what she is talking about, that being said the powerpoints are oddly worded, along with her study guides. She wont even respond to your emails, and is not very nice or considerate. Worst bio proffessor at niu by far, if i could use profanity i would. Tests are just as hard as everything else she writes and you will not use the book
The exams are very difficult the highest grade I got on one of the four was a 75 and that was with studying the notes and study guides. Her information is all over the place and hard to understand especially when there are exam questions that have three correct answers and or aren't very straight forward. Don't get me wrong she's nice but yeah...
Attend the lectures and fill in the slides, study the slides for the exams. Do the study guides. They're made to hammer in the information you need to know. She gives you everything you need to succeed and is passionate about what she teaches.
Fill in the slides, study the slides, and do the study guides. She gives you all the information you need to succeed. If you didn't pass this class, you didn't study. She's passionate about what she teaches and happily answers questions and emails.
She is a wonderful teacher, a lot of people give her crap because they just don't partake on a 10 A.M. lecture that is simple and easy. She gives us a clear study guide and a practice exam for each exam we do during the semester. There is a limited amount of extra credit, but I think you'll scrape by with a B if you pay attention during lecture.
Bio 209. Lecture, lecture, lecture. The class is lecture and 4 tests. Your grade is based off 4 tests. It's a rather large class so I didnt get to know her well but the class was fine. If you don't study you will struggle. If you aren't a good test-taker you will struggle. If you skip you will struggle. No homework except for studying.
Bethia genuinely cares about her students and what she's teaching. The powerpoints and study guides are kind of confusing, but she will happily answer any questions. She gives you all of the information you need to succeed in the class.
If you attend each class and fill in the outlined powerpoints THAT SHE GIVES THE ANSWERS TO, the class is a breeze. Of course you yourself need to review but she is very clear with the info she shares and also offers very helpful mnemonic devices. I cannot emphasize how important coming to class is, CLASS IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE EXAM GIVEN.
Great professor, very detailed in lecture and provides awesome PPTs. The set up of the class is, the notes are half completed on Blackboard, you have to come to class to finish the notes 100%. Online quizzes, can be taken over and over again. Professor provides old exams, online notes and online quizzes. 10/10 would recommend
Just a wonderful professor and person.
She is very nice but her exams are very difficult. Her lecture notes and study guides are really confusing and the way she words her questions! You need to go to lecture to get the notes. I wouldn't take this class again.
Dr. King is a nice lady, I can't deny that and she obviously cares for each and every one of her students. However, she is the only professor I've had where taking notes is more difficult than it should be, and not even saying in class that there is stuff due on Blackboard is a major nuisance and pretty much killed my ability to give a crap.
Nice professor but boring lectures. Mandatory to attend lectures since its fill in the blanks and she doesnt post the answers. The quizzes are all online. Lowest exam gets dropped. The quiz dates are confusing sometimes.
She can be very overwhelming. You have to go to class to get the notes because she doesnt post them online, but going to class is worth it. She provides a ridiculous amount of online study guides, one per chapter, quizzes and more. I hated it at first but then I realized that all the extra stuff she did is what made me ace the class.
Great professor. show up to class and pass
She is very thorough, gives a lot of information, but due to the abundance of information studying for the exams is very intimidating. If you don't go to the lecture you will miss out on the notes, the notes directly correlate to quizzes and without them, you won't do well. She is very passionate about Biology, it was just difficult in the content
Exams are very easy. Final Exam is even easier. Lowest exam is dropped. Study guides are they key to acing the exams. Gives practice exams. She doesn't recommend reading the textbook. Very nice and caring professor.
Dr. King is a very nice professor. This class consists of 4 unit exams (She drops the lowest exam), online quizzes (unlimited attempts), and a final exam . The unit exams are easy as long as you look over the study guides thoroughly. Most of the final exam questions come from the quizzes, sample exams, and unit exams. This class was an easy "A".
Best biology professor on staff! She makes it easy to learn, the notes she posts on BB have to be completed in class which encourages students to come to lectures. Tests are just the online homework q's. She is a little dorky but it helped me remember key concepts!
Honestly, she's a good teacher and a good person. Both of those became really clear to me during the semester. If you email her and tell you're sick, she excuses it. If you don't understand something and talk to her, she explains it. She cares about you doing well, and she doesn't have surprises on her tests - you just have to actually try.
This is a teacher who gave MORE THAN half OF HER CLASS of more than 100 people a D OR LOWER for a FINAL GRADE and didn't think there was anything wrong with that.
The way she gives lectures is good. She teaches good but her exams are just hard. She makes every answer sound correct , her questions are very wordy that you need to read over and over to get the question. Her FINAL is the worst. Had to retake her class twice.
Dr. King is exceptional. For the fully online version of this course she pre-records lectures and uploads PPT notes for you to use along with the lecture videos. The grade is primarily based on quizzes and exams but if you use her study materials and email her any questions on content you are all set! She is so willing to help and cares.
She cant teach, her information is all over the place in her notes and study guides. Her tests are hard regardless if you go to class study and look over the study guides. She doesn't care if the class average is low like in the 50-60s on exams she will not curve it and sees no problem with that or her teaching. she was nice person not a good proff
I had to take this class online due to social distancing measures, but I thought she did as good of a job as possible. All of the information needed for the tests was covered in the pre-recorded lecture videos. Quizzes for every unit that you can take an unlimited amount of times.
I had to take this normally in-person course online due to social distancing measures, and I think she did as good of a job as anyone. All of the information needed for the tests were covered in the pre-recorded lectures. Quizzes for every unit that can be taken unlimitedly. She was very kind, and I had no issues with the class.
Dr. King is very nice and passionate however does not carry material well to students. For this course I attended every lecture, did all the study guides, made quiz lets for ever quiz and all the notes and still did horrible. Taking the exams I felt confident but obviously I shouldnt have been. Each exam knocked me down and made me feel stupid.
Dr. King was an awesome professor, and definitely the best I have had so far. She posts her slides and if you go over them for a couple hours, you can easily get an A in the class. I never even had to open the textbook! She also gives extra credit questions on her tests, and that allows you to miss some questions but still get over an A.
I think Dr. King did a good job of teaching and explaining the concepts to students. The grading criteria was a little odd, but the tests were all extremely easy. This class took minimal effort, and it was very easy to get good grades. Those that think this class was hard are the same people that bragged to me about never watching the lectures.
This class was so bad, on blackboard it was said to be 100% face-to-face and she felt it was more convenient for her to be completely asynchronous online. No homework, no quizzes, no extra credit, your grade is based purely on 4 exams. I have never had to retake a class ever until this one. She needs to do better or work somewhere else. Smfh.
Beware, taking this class you will need a really good memory. There's no room for error. It's all memorization 4-5 chapters at a time. There's no homework, no extra credit, no quizzes, no cushion.
Dr. King is a very nice professor. Her lecture style can be a bit all over the place, but at the end of the day she gives you all the tools you need to be successful. The only thing that might deter you from wanting to take the course with her is that her grading is based 100% on tests (although she drops your lowest score).
Professor was very nice and interested in her field. Her class consists a lot on memorization but it is manageable as long as you study the notes she gives. This semester she did give a little bit of extra credit per exam 5-8 points each which helped. The final exam is fairly easy, easier than the other exams. make sure to save all the exams taken
This professor was very difficult. She was not understanding of students issues and would not do make up exams for real problems. During lecture she would talk about stuff not related to the topic and then expect use to know 4-5 chapters per a unit exam. Do not take this class with this professor, take it a community college.
This class has a lot of material to remember. The class was based on four exams. She does drop one exam but it still doesn't help. Her final exam is absurd about 80 question on the final. It's so much to remember and she gives no cushion to help your grade. You have to get almost every single question right if not you'll fail.
Dr. King was a very cool and passionate professor about her topic. her lectures were engaging and she did a good job of explaining her stuff. I have to say though, the slides are a little difficult to understand on some occasions. The exams are fairly difficult and they account for all your grade. Use all your previous tests for the final to study.
I went to every class, paid attention, studied and I still did not do good in the class. There are 4 exams in total. 3 exams and 1 final. Those count for your grade. No homework, no quizzes, no extra credit. Your grade is entirely based on test/exams.
Your only grade in this class are 4 exams plus the final. If you struggle taking test then you might struggle in the class there is something called Hidden Ans she provides for studying as well as fill in notes which can help but if you struggle with concepts and memorization they won't do much.
This is probably the worst class I ever took. Grading is based on four exams. The notes are sloppy, and I find them to be not helpful at all. She is not considerate of her students' time either, and she is also rude.
The grade was out of 4 exams and a final. There were no other assignments given, but lowest exam out of the 4 is dropped. Her lectures can be long and hard to follow. She gives you a paper to help study, but it is 4+ pages long per chapter covered (4-5 chapters per test) and expects you to know everything on it. I would not recommend.
Prof. King was an empathetic teacher but had expectations of students taking the course. Attending lectures and studying for the exams does really help a lot but only relying on lectures would not get you a high grade in the exams. The hidden_ans she provides are also very helpful. Unfortunately, her fill in notes weren't very useful.
It's a confusing class, but she is really nice. She gives all the material you need to pass the class with a good grade. Very understanding.
