I don't get some of the bad reviews. She wasn't horrible; just regular online class. Writing and reading; she gave decent feedback and grading assignments fast.
Super frustrating experience. Grading seemed arbitrary and she is not very friendly or supportive. You will spend hours trying to improve your work to get a better grade and if you reach out to her for improvement or question anything your grades will get worse. I would just avoid the professor. I don't know how students have anything good to say.
This professor gives a ridiculous amount of essays and loves to mark them with "?" for feedback. Extremely helpful when I want to know what I did wrong. Also marks off a RIDICULOUS amount of points (think 15% to 40%) for not italicizing a book title once, or for citing paraphrasing, the latter of which she counted 7 times too many imo. 0/10.
Summer school class; so lots of assignments in a short time. Not hard but you have to keep up with the work. Mostly essays; not an easy grader. But gave decent feedback.
Sort of reading and writing heavy but doable. Summer classes are hard. It wasn't hard just a lot in a short time. Easy grader.
THIS IS YOUR SIGN TO NOT WALK- NOT JOG- NOT SKIP, BUT RUN THE OTHER WAY. This prof has been probably 1 of the worst professors I have ever encountered in my life. The prof is not helpful, unsupportive, unapproachable and does not care whether you fail/pass her class. Her grading is horrendous and fails you regardless of how much work you put in.
No comment...........:/
Students, do yourselves a favor and avoid taking this course if learning and your grades matter to you. This professor lacks compassion, teaching skills, and shows no respect for immigrants. She expresses frustration toward immigrants for not assimilating into what she views as "American culture." Not a pleasant experience at all.
This professor is easily the most difficult I've had throughout my college experience. She shows little regard for students' struggles or the fact that many have other classes and commitments to balance. There's no flexibility, empathy, or support provided when you're having a hard time.
Avoid this professor! She is an awful professor who does not care about her students. Her grading is brutal, she will dock points for the smallest, most fixable mistakes, making it impossible to do well. Her feedback is unhelpful, leaving you confused. This class is not worth your time/energy. Very subjective grading style/harsh demeanor.
Taking this class with her has seriously impacted my college experience in a negative way. Do yourself a favor and choose a different professor if you want to avoid unnecessary stress and frustration.
Lonestar needs to seriously look into this professor for alterative motives against students. This professor wants you to fail and is mean and has no sympathy doing it, this is a community college and she is acting like it is an Ivy league school. Run, this is worst teacher i've ever had in my life.
Dr. Powers is the real deal. Super chill and makes History 1301 way more interesting. If you show up, pay attention, and do the assignments, you'll do fine. She's clear about what she expects, so there's no guessing. Plus, she's always answers questions quickly Honestly, just put in a bit of effort, and you're good. Definitely recommend!"
Dr. Powers class was fun! She keeps things laid-back but knows her stuff, and she makes history actually fun. We played a bunch of games. No tests! Just short essays. Her lectures are super clear, and as long as you do the work, passing is easy. She's also really fair and understanding, so if you're putting in effort, she'll notice. Take her.
Dr. Powers is a good professor. Her class isn't too demanding, and she's flexible sometimes. Her lectures can be a bit dry sometimes, but she's a nice person and easy to talk to. Definitely recommend. Tests are not difficult but you do need to go to class and do some reading but its not hard. Show up and you will pass the class.
I took Professor Power's class and it was a breeze. She's an easy grader, and her tests are mostly essays but she grades easy and gives you lots of time. The online class has structure and if you do all the work you will get a good grade. Its like a discussion and a chapter each week and then an exam every 4 weeks or so.
Do not take her, it's like an english class….theres no extra credit, she doesn't really help you on your papers. VERY TOUGH GRADER. It's like she doesn't want you to pass her class. You have to pay 2 extra books.
Powers' history class is like no other! Instead of boring lectures, we played a games about history. We did everything from building civilizations in Catan to deciding John Brown's fate. It's fun & you actually remember the material because you're involved. Professor Powers makes sure everyone gets the hang of things, even if you're not a gamer.
Professor Powers uses interactive games instead of lectures to teach history, making the history easy to remember. Writing is part of the course, but each essay is short and she helps you through them. No tests! Her feedback is helpful. Definitely recommend her classes.
Prof. Powers' HIST1301 is a mixed bag. The workload is manageable, but grading can be quite strict. Leveraging resources like Unstuck study alongside the textbook helps navigate the class. Overall, a decent course if you're willing to put in the effort.
I had no idea the Founding Fathers were so dramatic. The class is like binge-watching Hamilton but with more fact-checking. PowerPoints are interesting Plus, she actually care about students understanding the material and not just memorizing dates (although, yes, there will be dates). Take this class if you want to check history box
She makes the American Revolution sound like a soap opera, and my parakeet literally chirped along during her lectures. I think he was inspired?? I'd take this class again in a heartbeat, and so would my cat, who sat on my notes to absorb the knowledge. would recommend—just don't let your hamster plagiarize.
Don't know what those bad reviews are about; probably sour grapes. If you're looking for an easy A and a stress-free semester, take this class! There are no tests, no quizzes, just vibes and learning. Assignments are manageable, and she's incredibly chill about everything. As long as you show up and put in a little effort, you'll do great.
Dr. Powers is an absolutely fantastic professor! She's incredibly knowledgeable and makes history come alive. Her lectures are engaging and often hilarious. You'd never guess her age – she's got an energy that's super inspiring. Highly recommend taking a class with her!"
Great professor. I'd rather listen to her talk about the market revolution than listen to my playlist. She's got this way of making history feel relatable. Like, she'll connect the American Revolution to modern-day politics and you're just like, who knew. Exams are essay, but she's super helpful and easy grader.
Not the best teacher for this subject, tough grader.
Professor Powers likes to treat 1302 as if it's the last credit you need for your bachelor's in history. Grading is ridiculous, nitpicks minor issues, and doesn't do much teaching. She doesn't even teach her own class! No lectures from her, just reading a textbook. Can't stress enough how little I'd recommend this professor.
She nitpicks at very minor things when she's grading our work. She is hard to get in touch with and almost never returns emails. It's hard to get a direct answer; if she even answers at all. Very unaccessible outside of class.
This professor's grading in incredibly inconsistent and will punish your overall grade for minor mistakes. I was criticized for un-cited "paraphrasing" of the chapters we were supposed to cover in our history book. Excessively harsh grading and expects you to cite every other sentence for any papers due. Would not recommend. Ever.
Easy online class; only discussions, chapter quizzing and exam essays. Clear instructions. Just do the work and you will pass.
Not sure why there are bad reviews for this professor. She has a clear syllabus and class requirements. Do the weekly work and you will make a good grade.
this professor uses games;some are board games some are like debates. you have to write some essays but she is an easy grader. A few lectures not no notes or exams. Defiitely would take again.
The professors grading is harsh, she will nitpick minor errors on essay exams and even discussions barely gives any feedback and doesn't let you redo minor errors, and expects you to cite every sentence on the paper. In my opinion is excessively harsh for a credit course adding that she doesn't even teach, just reading textbook. Don't recommend.
The class is easy; just read the textbook. There is a discussion every week and three essay exams which she gives you two days to do. They are very short. Class is easy to follow and organized. Would take again.
Do not let the bad reviews scare you. I took her in-person class all you do is play games and write about those games. As long as you follow the criteria and participate in the games you will do fine. If you prefer writing over taking test, then she is a good option.
If you put in effort and follow the grading criteria, this class is easy. The weekly discussions are easy and as long as you follow the criteria and put in effort you should get a good grade. There are no tests so if you would rather write than take a quiz then she is a good choice.
Easy class. Exams were essay but open book with a couple of days to complete. She basically gives you an outline and the answers in the prompt. Weekly discussions just follow the book. This class was hoop jumping; can't say I learned much but I did pass the course and it wasn't a lot of work. If you need second us history i recommend this one
This was an interesting class. We did debates over about 4 topics. it was summer so moved fast but organized and doable. Grading easy but she does check citations so watch out.
Save your money and time, avoid this course. The reading load is INSANE, and most assignments are based on long, confusing “Gamebooks” (100's of pages long). I'm an A/B student, but I was nearly failed over ONE citation error. No option to revise, just tough luck. The grading feels unfair and unforgiving. Not worth the stress.
I highly recommend taking HIST 1301 online with Professor Powers. The course was well-organized and easy to navigate. All modules, assignments, and readings were clearly laid out and accessible, making it simple to keep track of deadlines. The teacher was fair with grading and expectations and provide rubrics
"Professor Power's online HIST 1302 course was good. The course was understandable and easy to navigate manner. I never felt lost or confused about where to find assignments or lectures. . The grading seemed fair and was quick. Never had to wait. It was summer school so it moved fast but the pace was manageable.
This class was good but it moved real fast. It was summer school so know that. It's online so you gotta keep up and not slack. Prof was cool tho. Everything was easy to find. She fair with grades and tells you what to do. No surprises. Just gotta read and do the work quick. If you pay attention and don't mess around you'll do okay.
Professor Powers is an engaging and knowledgeable instructor. Her assignments were informative and kept my interest throughout the semester. Everything was clear about the class, instructions were written out and she had some videos, and she gave good feedback on work. I would highly recommend her to other students.
Professor Powers' class was interesting. Her assignments and exercises were different...like games and debates. It helped me stay interested throughout the semester. Everything was clear about the class and she gave good feedback on work. I would highly recommend her to other students.
Good class; she doesn't tolerate cheating or AI so be careful.
fun class; even for online. class did a lot of discussions and game like exercises. no tests. a good class; would recommend
This class is so much fun. yes you have to write some essays but the games are really fun and you do learn from them. take her you won't regret
Class was mostly games and debates. The class is heavy on participation so if you don't like that stay away. But it is an easy class if you show up and participate in the exercises. There is some essays but she grades easy as long as you don't use AI. Beware she will give you a zero for AI
recommend this instructor; the class was interesting and different
Super easy class as long as you participate. She uses board games instead of long lectures and makes the material easy to understand. Instead of tests, she has essays but she is an easy grader as long as you don't use AI
