Excellent teacher. Hard marker, but my class isn't hitting my GPA anyways so no problems there. Very Friendly and decent sense of humour. Takes a couple shots at you if you come in unprepared.

She is a good teacher, and she prepares very useful handouts for her students. I guarantee you can really something in her class if you study her handouts. Quizzes are so easy, but she marks assignments quite hard.

I highly recommend Betty. She is a great teacher, very helpull and great personality. The class was very valuable, learned a lot. Take her!

Betty Anne is excellent. I loved taking her classes and hope to do some more with her. I found it, however, a little uncomfortable and embarassing to visit her during office hours because the people she shares the room with ARE WEIRD!

I've yet to get my first essay mark back, so my opinion might change, but I so far think she's a good teacher. You can show her your essay for you hand it in, and she'll help you and give you feedback.

This teacher is the best English teacher I have ever had. She is not only fun and enthusiastic about her job but does an amazing job teaching. She would be perfect for a struggling English student as she is an easy marker and goes over all the grammer and writing rules you could ever need. Take your class with her!

Really interesting readings, helpful, really wants you to do well, so ask and make the effort to get help! Marking may seem tough, but she has guidelines that she has to mark by, just as students have to meet expectations for writing at this level. Great prof IMO.

I dont kno why no one has written anything on her, shes an awesome teacher and has been teaching for awhile so she really knows her stuff. She's willing to help whoever wants it and is very informative. She has her own manual that she teaches out of so there is no wasted text book

Betty is very nice, and she is very approachable. She wants to see about 50% of analysis and 50% of grammer in your essay. I would recommend her, if you really want to learn. Anyways I am done with English now. So, good luck to you!!!!!!!!!!

She is very good teacher. She's always willing to give anyone extra help, she wants her students to do well. A tough but fair marker, just listen up in class and write exactly how she wants.

Betty is such a great teacher. she makes an effort to help each student in every possible way. she cares about her students. she is a good marker and her comments help you get marks in other english classes. even though the class was at 8am it was worth the learning experience i highly reccoment Betty to anyone i know or dont know.

Betty-Anne is a really good teacher. She puts a lot into her students and is able to put herself in their shoes which makes a huge difference. A little over analytical at times but clear and helpful. I really learned how to write an essay with Betty-Anne

BA is simply the best. Everyone thinks she marks brutally but this is a misconception carried over from high school. This is how university papers are SUPPOSED to be marked. USE HER OFFICE HOURS. Just going to see her once before every essay improved my grade drastically. She knows her stuff and WANTS to help you.

BA is awesome. She is clear and extremely helpful. She gives 110% to her class and students. Her marking is fair and pushes you to improve. I recommend her to anyone and will be taking future classes with her.

Excellent teacher, but near impossible to get a grade that will match what you get in other classes My friend's brother has a 4.0 GPA, and was only getting B/B+ in her class. The fact that it is so hard somewhat turned me off, but last semester got my GPA back up to normal, after working my a** of to get a somewhat decent grade.

Hard teacher! Picky about grammar, but gets you ready for university papers. Take if you are only willing to put 130% of your effort into the class. Willing to help you if you want to be helped! Good teacher, but hard marker.

She gives students the writing skills they need. She works so hard! She gets up at 3am every day to mark and prepare! Please write nice reviews. She has a good heart, be fair.

Betty is a great teacher! She tells you exactely what to do to get good grades on all your essays and will even help you with them before they are due. Be ready for A LOT of paper ... being organized is a big help in her class.

A good teacher. The first essay she marks a bit hard, but she gives great feedback. She gives easy 5 mark quizzes which are easy marks. The class is usually entertaining. She has a sense of humor and gets to know all her students, so the whole class ends up getting involoved.

Betty Anne is one of the good ones. She is an amazing prof who knows what she is talking about. She is probably the most helpful prof i've ever had. willing to do almost anthing to help you succeed if you'll put in the time and work. All through high school I was a horrible writer so I dreaded taking this course but betty anne made it a blast and actually taught me how to write! She sets very clear guidelines to each essay and she's so helpful during her office hours. Take her!

Attend class, and take lots of notes. All essays can be easily written with the things said in class. LOTS of feedback.

you will get a lower grade than normal but you will actually LEARN stuff, which i think is a fair trade off. in my third year and i've never met a teacher who cares more about her students than betty anne. highly recommended if you're willing to try to improve. also, go to her office hours she will help you!

Loved the lit class! Good discussions and we went over how to write each paper in class. Really helpful.

I am not a lit fan, but Buirs made it very enjoyable. For those of us not English majors, be warned, she is a tough marker. The flip side is that she improves your writing immensely and will put as much time in as you as for. If you want a GPA boost move on; if you want to TRULY improve your writing, Buirs is the prof for you.

She is very nice person, willing to help students with all kinds of difficulties, well-prepared for classes, and excellent at teaching. Personally, I think she is a hard marker, but that could be because that English is my second language.I'm currently taking the course, and unfortunately,I may end up with dropping it.

I have never learned more English than I did in Betty Anne's class. She is very intelligent and very clear in explaining what she wants you to do. You are never left wondering whether you're doing it right or not. If you have questions she is more than willing to help answer them. She is quite a hard marker though so her class isn't an easy A.

Betty is an awesome teacher!! She is an extremely TOUGH marker, but she is an amazing teacher. She will prepare you so much for writing in all your classes, and is EXTREMELY clear in her lessons. Highly recommend! She may bring down your GPA a little bit, but its worth it to be in her class. She is also very sweet and quirky!

At first I thought I wasn't able to pass the class. But I'm glad I didn't drop out of the course because she has improved my writing. She puts so much effort into the class and she is very friendly ! She is a hard marker, but she is willing to help you. She is clear in which she wants in assignments and she helps you write proper essays !

I appreciate Betty and how friendly she will be when it comes to helping students. Her standards are WAY to high for an intro to English course. I would not recommend Betty to anyone who is wanting to do well in English. It's probably the toughest course I've taken. What's more tough is that even if you work your ass off, you still do poorly.

Great teacher for first years. Shows what is expected of students in University and teaches them how to achieve that. Very organized and tweaks her class and curriculum each year depending on how her current students react. lots of loose paper. tutorials in class, assignments need to be done outside of class. 4 essays on varying lengths. she helps!

Betty Anne is the best professor I have ever had in English. She is a tough marker but at the same time there is still room for improvement. Best advice is to make use of her office hours and she will give you feedback and is always willing to help you. She is very understanding . Just be ready to talk in her class lots of discussions.

Betty Anne Buirs is the best English professor I've ever had. She teaches everything from basic grammar and punctuation, right up to writing clear and concise papers. Her lectures are based purely on class discussions.

If you put in an effort to pass this class, she'll gladly make the effort to make sure you do just that! She is very clear with how she wants assignments done, and does lots of partner exercises regarding each lesson. I highly recommend her to any type of student, and I would gladly take her class again!

Best english professor at kwantlen in my opinion! She actually teaches you how to write a university level english paper, which is really handy in your first year. I've taken her 1204 class too, and it was also really good. Classes are kinda boring, but if you like english, take her classes.

Lots of reading. Lots of writing. Super picky about every little thing.

She takes you step by step on how to write properly and teaches you only what you NEED to know. All her content is online which means no textbook ! She also posts a lot of examples that will help you on your essays. Her feedback is awesome too. Only downside is she gives out a lot of readings that she uses for her assignments.

Betty-Anne is an amazing woman and prof she is a hard marker, but I wouldn't have made it through my first semester without her. There aren't too many assignments and if you make a point of seeing her during her offices hours it will pay off big time! She told me if I kept going into English I could major in it ahah so sweet

She was so great! Clearly outlined every assignment, and gave time for you to get out a rough draft that she would go over with you to help you improve your grade. Very sweet, kind lady. She is extremely clear in what she expects from you and helps you as much as she can. B.A. is funny and very personable, I love talking with her. You won't regret taking her! She gives you the tools to succeed and it's up to you to use them. Read quite a few articles in her class, all very interesting

She is an amazing prof; I never liked english, but she has made me change my mind. 2 in-class exams (including the final), and 2 take-home. Reading quizzes on reading material (though not worth much). Go to her for help if you struggle because she will make you see why its important to write well. I still have a lot to learn

Betty anne is the best English prof you could ever take, she is there for the students and always has the students best interests in mind. She will spend as much time as with you as you need as long as your putting in the effort. She prepared me so well for university writing and she's hilarious at the same time which is always a bonus!

Betty is an amazing professor!!! I can honestly say that she's the best teacher I've ever had! She inspired me so much every class--I'd never been so excited to attend a course at 8:30 in the morning. I'd recommend her to anyone :)

Enjoyed every class. She's funny, non-judgemental, passionate about teaching, very clear, lots of feedback easy to reach, the list goes on. In class grammar & reading quizzes, & lots of examples in class so show up, but she does upload everything to moodle. Seriously, everything you could ever need is on the moodle page. Betty Anne really helped me in my first semester ever of university. She conducts her class in a low stress, helpful way with a goal of seeing students flourish instead of just getting through the class. She helps you every step of the way, building your skills instead of just throwing you into a research paper. I would highly recommend this prof.

Betty Anne was one of my first uni profs and I am so glad I took this course with her. There were only 3 or 4 written assignments, in-class (super easy) multiple choice quizzes on the readings, and 1 in-class research essay as the final. She gives great feedback on your assignments and wants you to do well so it's very possible to get a good grade!

She really knows her subject and is passionate about making sure you understand it as well. I learned a lot in her class, and it's helped me with all of my other classes!

Betty is amazing! She genuinely cares about her job and works very hard to make sure her students are set up to succeed. I loved that she prepped us thoroughly for our papers and gives us a reasonable amount of time to complete them. 100% recommend!

She gives feedback, always available and responds to emails. I had her for my first uni english course. She is a total sweetheart too. I look forward to taking her again. She is understanding first year is tough. Highly recommend!!

Took B.A. for Literature and I gotta say, analyzing short stories and poems realistically is very daunting! However, on the bright side, Betty Anne provides a ton of helpful materials on the Moodle site and is willing to aid students to get a decent grade in the class. She's super nice and understanding. If you're up for it, TAKE BETTY ANNE!

She is tough grader. If you have no option but still please do not take her. She will never give you passing marks, doesnot matter, you did hard work or not. I took her by checking her feedback but I was wrong. I had to drop this course. I did my hard work and I missed my shifts but she did not give me passing grades. I shared my experenice.

Super nice prof. She goes over each assignment in class, you get to hand in rough drafts, and she gives tons of feedback. I wish I could take her for my other course but I think she's retiring.
