I will never be the same...but that's ok because I am a better writer because of it.
needs to get her facts straight before presenting them to the class
Gives a whole lot of meaningless busy work. Not really to keen on idealism.
Wierd. Says "Whatever" allot and makes a W sign with her fingers. Not as hard as other Art History teachers.
Sometimes she is kinda rude, but she is actually ok. Her finals were very easy.
super terrific, she's interesting, got her facts straight and really cares about her class. Wish I could take this class again!
Wonderful experience taking her classes. She loves teaching and it comes through. Very knowledgable. Helps students open their minds to new ideas and new ways of thinking about art history. It has been an absolute pleasure learning from Professor Brown.
great class, if you do the assignments and show up for lectures. Prof. Brown is fabulous, she really has passion for her subject and teaching, I'll take any class she is teaching!
Hard, but challenges the mind and our way of perceiving the world. This is a fantastic experience, I am grateful to have had it!
I love her, shes very funny. This was a great class, very interesting. Papers were kind of difficult final was easy, Not too much work, I enjoyed this class.
Fabulous teacher! Very Smart and interesting!
LOVED HER!!! She is funny and was really interested in what she was teaching. She was very clear on assignment requirements. The final was so easy. Great teacher!
excellent person and teacher love the class a lot of fun
Total Hottie!!!
Total Feminist! Only girls will get an A in this class. She Teaches to make you think you understand the material, but when she grades, she totally denounces everything she said in the lecture. If your a guy, you may want to change that before you enroll.
Awsome! I learned alot in a short amount of time. See makes art History alot of fun. She brings up alot of cultural issues in art and makes it very relatable. I reccemend this class! Plus the book is online! Makes Life Alot easier!
Keeps the subject very interesting and is very enthusiastic about the history of art. She was the best professor I had at CSUN's art history department.
Completely inspirational and dedicated!

she is crazy and a total nut! i hate art and i love this class!!! she is the best! and lets u write ur own tests! all scantron!
She is interesting, inspiring, intelligent, makes students to think outside of box. Never missed a class and enjoyed it all. Her tests are easy if you study, pay a lot of attention to papers b/c she requires "a quality paper". Allows to do a paper as an extra credit. Loved her classes and the way she teaches. Highly recommended.
I loved this class. It was soooo much fun. Betty makes you think about things and see them in a whole different light. Great class overall!
she is an awesome teacher... makes a very boring subject so interesting. she is the best teacher AT CSUN she is awesome, simple test and her lectures are like stories.. very interesting.. and shes a total nut which makes her funny in class.AWESOME!
She is a great teacher! Very knowledgable, and makes this subjected totally fun. She is hilarious and makes her students get interested in this subject.
Very easy, she makes the subject really interesting and lectures very well.
She is truly an asset to the art dept. & CSUN. She will make you seriously consider changing your major 2 art. I loved her, best professor ever @ CSUN. Consider yourself lucky to be enrolled in 1 of her classes. An amazing professor, art historian, and woman. You'll look forward to attending her class.
Very good and helpful professor. She really knows Art history. I highly recommend her class to anyone. Just be aware that she is a major Feminist Hippy and is VERY proud of it. Overall not much work involved and her test are Soooo easy!
She's the best teacher ever! She's interesting and fun and I learned a lot about art. I loved the class! I would take her class every semester if I could. The course was 1/2 in class & 1/2 online with weekly online tests, which were easy. She wrote the textbook, which is online too.
Few have I met so into themselves as Betty Brown. Every meeting, expect a disingenuous "Hi-eeee!" when calling roll (after every single name she calls!). Ridiculous. Someone who knows everything about nothing, BB might well know her subject matter but, that won't matter much, as she doesn't stick to the subject. Clearly, she's her biggest fan.
She's the sweetest professor you'll ever meet. She's very clear in her requirements, and will repeat herself over and over until everybody understands the material. My advice: Do as much as extra credit you can because her final is cumulative and it's not as easy as it may seem. Overall, I highly recommend her class. It's fun and easy.
she is a very hard grader. i got As on all of the weekly quizzes and got an A on the midterm and still got a B in the class b/c of the final and the final project. not even sure what i got on the final project cuz i turned it in on the last day. i truly believe that i deserved an A in the class. she is not a fair grader.
She accused me of plagiarism on an opinion paper.

Great Teacher, i really enjoyed the class.. Im not sure what everyone is talking about on here, but she is straight forward, just do what she requires and go into depth on assignments. She gives alot of extra credit, over 50 points this semester and overall points is only 209... do the math.. hard to do bad in the class! she makes the class fun
Professor Brown is such a great professor. Make sure you get 9's or 10's on your weekly quizzes. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities which helped me a lot. She knows her stuff and does such a great job. For an upper division GE...TAKE HER!
loved this class. Betty is great! I took a class like this at a JC and it was awful. Betty made it interesting and gave plenty of opportunities for extra credit. Make sure you do good on the quizes, and try to go to the museum trips with her, it'll give you a good basis for the papers. (easy A)

not impressed
can be a good learning environment, that is if people are willing to participate in class discussion, otherwise it becomes something other than a seminar class.
Like the previous comments I think she is a mix between not so good and good. Because she doesn't clearly define the assignment until after it's turned in. She can be rude but also friendly. She changed the lessons more than once in midstream which is frustrating. She does grade fairly and gives plenty of extra credit.
This class is all right completly passable if you attend class but betty is pretty full of herself and her political views, which I agree with her most of the time, but its art class get off your arrogant high horse already.
If you are an Art History major, then I highly recommend this class. Brown is tough and a lot of work, but you'll learn a lot from her. If you're more into the art production end, however, then DO NOT take this class! The high volume of work she requires may severely cut into your art project time (I've learned this the hard way).
Easy A. Just do the work, show up, but she offers lots of extra credit. Hard grader on papers. Shes not full of herself, she's just way too energetic for a morning class. Oh and her and the TA's HATE any technology so if you have a laptop or cell phone THEY WILL TAKE IT AWAY! very ridiculous...
Awesome professor! my first art history class and I really enjoyed her lectures. Do your work (honestly-she's anal about any type of plagiarism) and pay attention in class and you'll get an A. She's very knowledgeable about Art, great professor!
Shes really out there sometimes! CRAZY hair, a complete hot mess, but knows what shes doing! grades papers fairly difficult, but it is upper div so what do u expect. TAs are a little anal, but all in all ok. Mid term, final, and quizes EXTREMELY easy!
She did not treat her students like adults. She displayed very moody behavior, and she lashed out us many times during class and in emails. She acted more immature than a 5 year old child. She put on the guise of allowing a free-thinking environment, but it was Betty's school of thought or none at all. She was an extreme disappointment.
You won't be disappointed or bored! Betty encourages students to think and express what they have learned. (How often does that happen?) She has lots of energy and a sense of humor and knows her stuff! You need to read the material for the class, normal for an upper level art class. She's fair and understanding, I learned a lot and it was painless!
I really enjoyed her class. She is really passionate about the subject matter. I learned how much impact art has on our culture today.
I just completed an online course w/Professor Brown. Prof. Brown put her book online so that it did not need to be purchased & she made every single assignment avail from day 1. She answered all of her emails and promptly graded all of the work turned in. The class is not easy because you do need to read and keep up but it is worth it. She's great!
She knows the material like no one else (she came out in the documentary Angels & Demonds decoded in History Channel). Great professor, funny, makes class interesting and fun. She's a femminist and will try to scare all guys to leave her class in the first day in a funny way, but she's a great person. Easy and fun class if you do your work.
Class was online but soo easy IF YOU READ! Loved it! The test are timed but there is enough time! Assignments are crystal clear. Do as told, guranteed A. Don't forget ANY deadlines! Good luck.
ALL relevant information is in the excellent book/WebCT; lectures are relatively useless. 2 2-essay midterms (no final) where your answers seriously depend ENTIRELY on your reading; 1 ungraded group presentation and 1 graded essay about it. Professor always considers herself right, so disagreeing with her is a recipe for frustration/entertainment.
Took this class. Really really easy. I got an A but I had to work for it. I had an A the whole semester but when I took the final webct timed out and i had to restart the program. even though it wasn't my fault she wouldn't let me retake it, which made my grade a C. I was lucky enough to do the extra credit and end up with an A.
Very interesting and really great sense of humor. Knows her stuff, so don't challenge her with stupid remarks. 13 online quizes and 3 in class exams - if you study you'll get an A. I Highly recommend her!
This was a very interesting class I enjoyed going to class and learned a lot about art history, the 3 hour long night class went by so quickly every class session because she keeps it very fun. there are 14 online quizzes and she drops 1 & 3 tests straight from the study guides. I would highly recommend her class to anyone.
She was an inspiration for me maybe because I am an Art History major, but she is amazing. The lectures are interesting and you don't have to take notes; she never brings notes either because she knows Art. If you get a chance take her! the final project was so much fun.
She is very inspiring and very knowledgeable. Her classes are extremely fun...and i always looked fowrard to her classes, presentations and lectures. If you love art-take her!!...LOVE MS BROWN
I love Betty! She's got the most awesome sense of humor which makes class really fun to attend. She relates the art to the students really well which makes in-class material easier to remember. I look forward to class because it's fun - the online tests are boring compared to class, but it's all worth it. HIGHLY recommend.
shes awesome! such a hippie and hilarious. take her. super duper fun!
Betty is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She is so passionate and makes you feel passionate about the course as well. She is really hillarious and fun and makes the class worth attending. Easy A if you show up to class and review sessions for exams. Lots of extra credit! Highly reccomend her! You won't regret it I promise.
14 Online Quizzes (10pts each), 3 in class exams (includes the final)(50pts each). Final not Cumulative. Attendance taken. 3 opportunity of easy extra credit (15pts each) is given by going to a museum & writing a brief summery. Exams based on Class Lec. Quizzes based on Txtbook. No txt book need. Provides Txt book online. Recommended Professor!!!
She is such a fun teacher I definitely recommend taking her 305 class! Even if you aren't really interested in art, she gives you different perspective that will interest anyone. There are online quizzes each week that are pretty easy and only 3 exams. If you go to class and pay attention to her lectures, you'll most likely get an A.
Lectures & Quizzes online. Class isn't difficult, especially if you pay attention. Also, good sense of humor, so class was entertaining
AMAZING professor. Def my favorite from all my current teachers. She is a well experienced professor who makes her classes very fun and entertaining while teaches us important facts about art in society. If you do all the readings take notes you don't even have to look over the powerpoints. Test are ridiculously easy.
AWESOME. That is all I have to say.
I wish all professors are like her! She's a great teacher. There are weekly online quiz, 3 main exams (including finals), and two art museum reports. Attendance is mandatory. As long as you read e-textbook, you will be fine in the class.
She is a very awesome professor, will try the best to connect with her students and keep class interesting but she is very strict with her rules. she will make no exceptions to her assignments despite if it was your fault or not. wouldnt recommend unless you can follow every single rule. shows her moody side.feminist. nuff said
Amazing Professor! I enjoyed attending her class!! she's one of the few professors that will keep you awake all class period. She is clear of what she expects from you. I love Her! A very intellectual woman. Must take her =)
Omg this teacher is the greatest. She's brilliant and a wonderful teacher/personality. Her lectures are interesting and she makes art not-boring. I wish all my classes could be like hers.
This class is pretty easy and really interesting. Brown is great. There are only 3 Exams and if you pay attention in lecture and take notes you will be fine. I didn't read the book that was online at all and I got a B on every test. There are also lots of opportunities for extra credit by going to an exhibit and writing about it. Its an easy A.
Prof, Brown is the best in ART. she makes the class clear n easy. Just attend the class, take notes, STUDY THE REVIW, u will get an A. she gives 2 extra credit papers, which is easy, but u have to go to the museum. I loved her class. there was no final only 3 midterms. Interesting class n very great professor. TAKE HER!!!!
quirky professor. very into everything involving the arts. she can be a little snappy if you get on her bad side so don't show up late during exams and disturb the class. easy class overall. three exams, an optional "paper" that involves visiting an art museum and extra credit pop quizzes. just pay attention during lecture and you'll be fine.
Fun class. It was half online and half in-class. Easiest A ever. She gives you the book. They're PDF files for each week. Weekly online quizzes. Three exams. Optional extra credit paper in case you miss a quiz or two. Just go to class, you'll get an A+ for sure. Especially for exam reviews, she basically gives you the answers.
PROS: 14 weekly online quizzes (straight from online text), weekly forum comments, a 50 question final AND extra credit. Easy A. CONS: Not many. As long as you follow her instructions you can get though this course without any issues.
Worst teacher i have ever taken at CSUN. very hypocritical and unhelpful. i am not someone who ever does reviews or complains but this teacher really got under my skin. one assignment i was marked down for something she says in her own book! upon pointing that out to her i was ignored. she is overly critical and down right rude and demeaning.
Took her online class, not very difficult but confusing weekly online quizzes. Follow her exact instructions for the forum posts and you'll be fine. She gives an optional extra credit paper, VERY easy and worth A LOT of extra credit, so you should do it to be on the safe side. Final exam is hard to study for. Her lecture slides aren't helpful.
Dr. Brown is an inspiration and her class reading is sensational! It is so interesting and she wrote the book. Everything in it is amazing and she is nice, smart, and a lot of experience teaching, many years of wise involvement with students. Solidly into best student outcomes, unlike select other teachers at Northridge. Experienced & solid.
Prof. Brown is very passionate about Art and her lectures are GREAT. Come to class to have a clear idea about what the class is about. Museum paper is extra credit and worth a lot of points so don't miss out on that opportunity. Study the exam reviews to the T and you will ACE the class. Would take again!
Dr. Brown is such a sweet woman. It is easy to tell that she really loves art, and she knows this course extremely well. She lectures, but it is not the boring, dry lectures that you're used to. She can be quite funny too. MASSIVE extra credit assignment in the class, DO NOT SKIP IT! Its pretty much fill in the blank. Would take again.
Prof Brown is wonderful! She really cares about her subject and her students. She is funny, sweet, and highly knowledgeable. Despite it being her first time teaching this class, she had wonderfully prepared lectures and made it interesting and simple to learn.
Dudee. Professor Brown is like the sweetest person ever. She's so passionate and I looked forward to going to her class every week. Do the extra credit, it helps a ton. If you have the chance to take her class, do it. One of the best professors for sure. Always try your best, and you'll be okay. Very interesting class. I took her for 318 not 315
This is a Gender Studies course disguised as an Art History course, and she has the audacity to assume all the students believe her extremist ideology.
She's like a female Dwight Shrute (from the Office).... Literally. Extremely uncomfortable sense of humor that she expects everyone to think is funny. This might sound entertaining, but if you feel comfortable with letting Dwight Shrute create your tests and grade your papers, take this class.
I took her class during a pandemic, but she's one of the better educators for sure. She's enthusiastic and really cares for her students, however, sometimes she's very nit-picky and she can get a bit micromanage-y. I'd recommend her to anyone who likes a quirky professor and is also a perfectionist when writing/turning in work.
I love Professor Brown, she is super knowledgeable of all the art covered in class and outside, you can tell it's her passion by the lectures she gives. She also dressed in super cute monochromatic fits for every class and I just thought that was cute. Class requires a textbook but she gives you the pdf of each chapter with each module. Loved it.
Her grading is clear, but isn't very flexible since it's based on racking up points. My class had a total of 14 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 paper, and the final exam. Most of the material on the quizzes were from the textbook and most of the chapters from the textbook were really long. There were 2 opportunities to get extra credit by writing papers.
Professor Betty is an extremely caring professor. I love art and I learned a lot from her class, she always gave great feedback and was always willing to help with assignments.
Professor Betty Brown is so passionate about art that I loved her lectures. She has a unique approach to art history compared to other professors I've had. I find Art History professors to be the most interesting people, and Professor Brown is no exception! I feel more confident in my Art History knowledge after taking this course.
Betty is a super kind professor and clearly loves teaching art. She always welcomes questions and loves hearing what students have to say. Coursework consists of weekly quizzes and two simple papers. Definitely recommend if you're interested in art, she's a gem.
