She is sooooo hard. Her tests are extremely hard to study for and her kectures cover 15 topics per class when they should only cover 1 or 2. I had her for Psyc 100 too, same then as well.

She was very judgemental, and far too close-minded to be teaching a critical thinking class. I felt as if I had to express an opinion completely identical to hers in order to receive a good grade. I got an A, but still regret taking the class w/ her.
Her tests were to freakin hard! We had Multiple Choice, Sort answer, and fill- ins! She never explained**** and all she ever talked about was saving endangered animals!!! COMPLETE IDIOT!!!
her tests are almost impossible, she is very closed minded, and very unhelpful....she tries to make you feel insuperior

Has strong beliefs and opinions and expresses them. Difficult tests. Boring classes. LOTS of pointless homework you have to do.
Had a political agenda the entire time! DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER WHATSOEVER!!!
Horrible teacher! Worst I've had at CSULB. Her tests were impossible! On first test average was an F and she told us we should "party less, study more". Very judgemental, unhelpful. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER IF U CAN AVOID IT!!!!
Everyone above is so right about her! She is so judgmental and she talks to u like u dont know what ur doing. like she'll say " If u want to get a good grade, actually do the assignments" and everyones like DUH! but if we knew when sh** was due we would do it! Uh Uh, im warning you, DO NOT TAKE HER!
Her system of organization is very poor. You never know when anything is due or what you are supposed to be doing. She is very unhelpful. It feels like she talks down to the whole class. It was the same when I had her for PSY 100 too.
possibly one of the worst professor at CSULB. dont take her!
You are all right about this woman, because when I took her class i would have to say that only two people went home with A's, they were probably self-taught because this woman did not explain anything, makes u buy all sorts of crap for her class and she is very unfair.
I sort of feel bad for her. She is really smart and cares about what she teaches, but she is really cynical and you have to really be on top of things to get a good grade. You will have to work hard, guaranteed
The worst ever!!! Dont take it! Drop this class! Ive never hated a teacher before. I really want to kill her. She makes everything hell!
I enjoyed this class every single session and enjoyed the subjects we explored. I will retain everything I learned from the class and apply it to my personal life.
Learned a lot, hard class, instructor very knowledgable -- covers a lot of material. Expects everyone to read all the book before the lecture. Exams hard but fair.
Everyone is right about this ****. Talks down to the whole class, gets upset if you ask questions, and just thinks that she is smarter/better than everyone in the class.
worse teacher at csulb, she knows so much about the subject but she does not know how to teach the subject so the students can understand
I had never gotten a C in my life and I got one in her class. And I worked my butt off to get that C. That alone should tell you something. Her lectures are impossible to follow and her test questions are confusing. If you have any other options take another class. If not, I'm sorry but you'll have a terrible semester.
Must Attend, READ BOOK, Utilize beachboard tools/links they help. Tests tricky; READ!Do all homework to compensate for exams! She IS approachable. Lectures can be interesting. Good preparation for upper division courses!
HORRIBLE, avoid at all costs. She tries to impose her views on you and worse.

this teacher sucks! avoid her at all costs!
WORST TEACHER EVER!
DO NOT TAKE CLASS WITH HER!!!! SHE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT SHE'S TEACHING!!!

THE WORST teacher I've ever had at CSULB. She talks down to everyone. On the first test the average was an F...but she said it was because we all "partied" too much and didnt study...what does that tell u!? AVOID THIS TEACHER IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!!!!
SHE WAS THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD AT LONG BEACH! PLEASE I ADVISE YOU DONT TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES!!! SHE IS DISRESPECTFUL AND LOST MY WORK!!!HORRIBLE, DONT TAKE DECKARD!
Best class I had this semester. Really taught me to think.
Interesting class, learned how to study better, manage time, about the environment, how to argue. Lots of work, exams are tough, but teacher tells everything on exam.
aside from being a raging evolutionist, she was effective in presenting the material. you'll never get out of class early, but she'll give you lots of ways to supplement your at home study time. very tough class, lots of memorization. using the book is key...
This is not a hard class, but full of busy work, no study guide for mid terms/final, and supposedly a C is 65% well I recieved a 65.6% today on mycsulb I learned that she gave me a D. Im outraged, she says one thing and does another, i dont know what those other fools were smoking saying her class is good, but please avoid this teacher.
I really enjoyed this class. She is very nice and knows her stuff. Make sure you do the reading and don't miss class. The study guide really helps too! There is a lot of material but if you study hard you will do fine.
Yeah, this class was bad. Students give the lectures, not her. She thinks shes funny, but shes not. BEWARE OF THE DECKARD.
By far the worst instructor I have EVER had! Her lectures are boring and just barely scratch the surface of the topic. Her tests are impossible. The questions are so intense. The average grade on all of her tests was an F, but she blames it on us saying we "party too much". No matter how hard you try this class is impossible. DON'T TAKE HER!
She is so far one of the best professors I've had here at CSULB. She is very straighforward when it comes to her expectations. She tells you exactly what you need to do to do good in her class. It is not an easy class and you really have to work hard. If you don't study and do the minimum don't expect to get an A.
The class is very hard. I am usually a good student and I found myself struggling to gain a C. The book is complex and hard to understand. The teacher lectures on the basics but tests on the details. If you study as much as she tells you to (2h for every class hour) you might get an A.
I have had Dr. Deckard for two classes as she is a great teacher, but her classes are not easy, they are what a college class should be like. As in, you actually have to study. Do not take her if psych is not your major, take her if you want to learn and are a serious student.
this class is pretty tough so, it's impossible to get through it without reading your book COVER to COVER and studying like crazy. her lectures aren't always interesting, but i don't know how exciting you can make action potentials. there are several difficult assignments that are helpful when studying. she's pretty sarcastic; i found her funny.
Honestly, the hardest class I have taken. On every test, the average was an F. I am a 3.8GPA student yet I am in danger of failing this class. Aviod at all costs.

Unbelievably hard class. Her lectures cover what should be on the exams but the actual exams contain all kinds of super-particular questions that don't actually pertain much to the general subject matter. Alot of the answers couldn't be found in the lecture, the textbook OR the study guide! Studying for 15 hours can STILL result in a D!
WITHOUT A DOUBT THE WORST TEACHER AT LONG BEACH STATE. She covers absolutely nothing that are on her exams. Completely made me hate psychology. Not worth your time or money. NEVER EVER take this woman.
the worst teacher i have ever had. REALLY, dont take her.
She's helpful if you talk to her, but it's a hard subject for most so obviously this is not an easy class. She has higher expectations than most professors at CSULB, but that's a good thing. If you find a way to get interested in the material and study hard, you'll be ok. Plus she gives A's for getting only 85%!
Honestly I'm surprised to see so many negative comments. I seriously thought she was a great teacher! She has such a sarcastic humor too, lol I love it! Anyways It's not a hard class. The book is extremely helpful and so are the practice quizzes online. I'm a really lazy person and I still managed to snag a B. Just study. I cram and I still do ok!
There seems to be a lot of unrealistic ratings for this professor. She knows the subject matter very well and is always prepared to answer any questions. She does cover the most important exam material in class. The subject is hard so she compensates by giving making 85% in the class an A. The projects are not hard. She does not really expect much!
didnt care for her. she wasnt clear about assignments and the only way she really comunicates is through beach board so get used to that. shes sarcastic wich makes the class interesting, but she likes to involve her opinions in the lectures which bugs.
Deckard was a great teacher right from the start! She has really helped me broaden the way I think and see the world around me. Yes, her tests were difficult and there was a lot of homework, but it can all be done if you are a serious student and actually want to learn. I didn't use the book much and still got an A-, so far. (finals are next week)
The best Psychology course and teacher ever! She explains the material so that it's relatable to everyday life; it also helps that she uses humor too. Her lectures review the material very well. The exams are super easy, you just have to read the book! Also, there are 3 behavior explanation mini-papers due (2 pgs.) that are also really easy!
This is the hardest lower division class i've taken for psych.. but she definitely sets the standards high for her students. The subject isn't easy so it's a given that this class is challenging. Follow her study tips: read, do online practice tests, utilize the course packet and study!
I took her twice before w/ A's & I'm taking her again. People who rated her really low are the ones who don't study & then blame their bad grades on her. She knows her stuff really well & her grading scale is fair. Tests are only hard if you don't study. Make sure you actually understand the material b/c her tests requires you to actually think!
aaaah! her exams are extremely hard--i studied for for four hours yet it wasnt enough. you have to every freakin detail and plus her lectures are not helpful at all. feel like you go to class and learn nothing. she likes so say "yeah" a lot and its an extended yeah not very pleasing to hear. it makes me mad because shes not helping at all!!!!
Nice and funny. Although lectures could be very amusing, its not worth going if you're not going to pay attention and/or would rather read the text yourself. Assignments are pretty easy and tests are manageable if you actually read. She posts reminders about everything and knows the subject very well.
very fun prof. she's really funny and entertaining while teaching you material spot on very clear. most of material is in book so i only come to class to hear her jokes. no homework except for 3 2 page papers on stuff in the book, VERY easy assignment. tests are a little hard but some questions are ridiculously easy. just study hard, easy class
She is sarcastic but at the same time very straight forward on things. She tells it how it is.She's like the main character in Driving Lessons. The course isn't a cakewalk but it is fun and I did learn a lot. Just do the work,AND hold on to it once you get it back. I learned the hard way. Do the online quizzes for many questions come from there.
Professor Deckard is a very cool lady. She's cynical, but funny, and her lectures can be interesting sometimes. If you wan't an easy A, DON'T take this class. But if you don't mind reading every week, and getting the most out of a Psych class, then take her. You'll learn alot. Exams are kind of difficult, but if you study hard enough, you'll pass.
TOUGHEST class i've ever taken! And it didn't help that she excepted you to know a lot of the information before class. The material is not easy. The tests are extremely difficult and straight from the textbook. Lectures are boring and you MUST read ALL materials multiple times in order to do well. I don't recommend it.
I'm actually an art major but WOW, I loved this class so much that I wish I was a psych major. PSY 241 was extremely challenging and it was GREAT (I never struggled so hard just to land a B). Be sure to READ the assigned chapter before class in order to fully understand the material. Also, use cognitive maps... they help!
If you take her with WileyPlus, the textbook is online, don't waste money on the book. Her class was easy with Wiley because most of her questions came from the quizzes given through Wiley Memorize those and you're fine. Sit in the front, she's nicer to you. Mostly reads off slides...sort of boring but sometimes inserts anecdotes. She's funny.
I absolutely love this class. probably one of the best professors I've had.Very funny, sarcastic, very interesting lectures.I got an A on almost all tests, and i am terrible with tests. Read the material and an A is inevitable.tests are spaced perfectly and only cover about 2 chapters per test so you never feel slammed or over-welmed with information.
Honestly, people think this class is hard its not. just read the book, that all you have to do. there are about 6 exams, 3 behavioral explanations, and 2 hours of experimentation. she lets you redo papers, shes sarcastic but funny. you dont even have to go to class b/c most questions are based on the book. JUST READ!
I didn't think the class was bad at all, although, I haven't taken any other psych class to compare it to. Deckard was kind, and she talked about things that we would later read from in the book. I don't remember the tests being that hard. Just pay attention and you'll do fine!
She's kind of tough...go to the study groups her TA sets up! she pretty much goes over the entire test! Not terrible if you dont show up to class
Im a freshmen and she was one of my favorite professors. She made the class fun,I mean school is school, but she was funny. Her exams were appropiate because everything she taught was from the book and the exams covered everything we read and she lectured. Going to the lectures helped me grasps the material better. I recommend Betty Deckard!
Lecture is important but hard to hear so sit up close to the front. Assistant teacher most of the time who is not tolerant of anything. Difficult exams and assignments.
attend lecture and read the assigned pages, that being said and done you'll get an A, she grades by the curve. do connectpsy and the experiments. she's very nice and funny. take notes on lecture and go on review days. attend study groups because they give you freebies to questions on exams and they're very helpful!
I really liked her, she was pretty straightforward about everything. Tests are basically 95% on what you read in the book, so if you miss some lectures just read to catch up. TA for the class arranges study groups which help a lot when studying for the exams. Not a hard class!
This class is not to difficult if you show up. If you show up and leave early it's her pet peeve, so just don't leave mid-class. She takes a lot of the test questions from the Online practice tests/quizzes. The TA holds study groups which are helpful. Dr. Deckard has a sarcastic sense of humor, which just makes everything she says way better.
This lady knows her stuff, don't get me wrong. But when it comes to teaching the subject, she is the worst. You have to literally read the book from top to bottom to get a decent grade. To top it off, her "lectures" are everything from the book! Don't bother showing up to class.
I actually enjoyed this class. She has a sarcastic sense of humor so listening to her lecture is actually entertaining and you won't get that bored. As long as you do all the easy assignments and actually study for the test, easy A. Even if you don't do well on the tests, but do all the assignments, you'll probably end up with a B.
This class is tolerable. I liked her personality and her lectures didn't bore me. As long as you do all the assignments (& they're easy too)I think you'll do fine. The midterms/tests aren't hard as long as you study the material from the book. The final is an easy A, presentation.
Straightforward class. Homework and online quizzes help boost your grade, so make sure you do it, and obviously correctly. Take good notes. Other than that, she knows what she's saying and is pretty interesting. Sometimes she can be callous and sarcastic, but that's just her humor.
Just try. If you're taking this psych class because you're interested in psych, you won't be disappointed. Very sarcastic, knowledgeable, and gives good notes. Test are hard, but if you "study" the day before the test by reading notes and the book, you shouldn't get anything lower than a C. Homework isn't too difficult. It boosts your grade, and she let's you redo papers. I averaged a C on tests and a high B on hw and quizzes, so I ended up with a B in the class.
Hard to keep up with her because she speaks low, slow and pauses too much along with many "ummmmmmm" and "sooo, yeahhhhhhh" 4 tests that shouldn't be too hard if you actually study from the book. Her new TA just texted while we took the test so I always saw a couple of people cheating.
I definitely recommend taking this class, she has a really sarcatic yet funny sense of humor that makes the lectures interesting. One of my favorite teachers, also very willing to help students outside of class.
This class is really easy if you turn everything in. Deckad is very funny and i loved going to class because her lectures were very down to earth. Most of the questions come from, or are similar to, questions that are provided in the practice quizes online. her grading scale is curved so an 85=A. i recommend this class.
She is sarcastic and funny. Her lectures were interesting and she is very knowledgeable. Homework due almost every class so pay attention to what needs to be turned in. This class can get hard sometimes so study!!
She is extremely sarcastic therefore funny. Alot of people cant stand her but I really liked her and the class. She made psych fun but not too easy. It helps to go to class and pay attention because she explains thigns well. She made psy fun, but follow the syllabus because she wont tell you if something is due. Good Prof.
Received an A; this class was my most time-consuming one. You don't have to attend class at all. Tests based strictly on the textbook. For most of the test questions, you have to apply your knowledge from your reading to answer scenerio questions. Class is based on 5 exams, 2 papers, 3 online quizzes, and a few side assignments.
This class is just too much work for my taste. I thought I would have fun in this class but, in fact, it took over my whole semester. There are a lot of exams and homework is graded strictly. If you read the book, you probably don't need to go to class. I honestly don't like this professor in general.
She is not tough. She expects people to have already made that jump from high school to college in terms of writing and maturity. She's pretty nice in person. In fact, compared to her TA, she was an angel. Her TA was a really big jerk. Hw and online quizzes boost your grade up a lot. If you do them correctly. And her grading isn't like other psy 100 profs. For example a 87-100 is an A, 77-86 is a B and so on. At least that's how it was for my semester. Maybe she changed it. Look @ her syllabus.
She is boring her sarcasm comes off as rude and condescending. She claims you can email her, but I have yet to get a response. The class itself is manageable just read the book and don't show up to listen to her ramble.
Class was easy. There's a tad bit of work, but it's easy and not time consuming. Buy and read the book. It's a pretty straight-forward class. Sometimes extra credit is given if you stay for a lecture after a test. You'd the she was strict because of her age but The professor is very witty and fun.
Probably the best professor I have ever had the pleasure to know.
For a critical thinking professor, she sure does interject her own opinions a lot in class lecture, and defends them with all her might, and makes anyone who disagrees feel like their opinions don't matter. She has a very cynical view about people, and her negative attitude makes it difficult to want to go to class.
She is the easiest and nicest teacher there is!! none of her tests are cumulative, no midterm or final! I've gotten an A on all her tests because i read the chapters that she Clearly assigns:) She does have her funny moments, but ya she mostly lectures about what you read the night before, but who cares, no final like Prof. Span!! lol.
Pretty easy
Easy class. NO real need to attend class. When preparing for exam, better off just reading through modules(chapters) a couple of times. Some assignments but none of them are difficult.
She's not the evil prof this page makes her out to be. Her exams are easy, the whole course is laced with extra credit opportunities, and she's pretty entertaining.
Awesome teacher. I was pretty intimidated at first after reading all the comments about her. She's not bad at all. She just has a different sense of humor. There's barely any work. You can choose between coming to class or reading the module. Either one will help prepare you for the test. Final isn't cumulative. Definitely recommend.
I really enjoyed this class. She is funny, and her lectures are entertaining. Her powerpoints are not just outlines of the chapters, there is outside information included that helps you to further understand the material. She is super nice, and a little intimidating at first, but i definitely recommend taking her class.
This class was a breeze! Her class isn't cumulative! no midterm or final! No surprises. The tests are easy as long as you read the chapters she assigns. If you want a stress-free class, choose her, I also learned a lot from going to class even though she just goes over the textbook. My favorite class this semester. (because no midterm or final)
she's a good teacher, keeps things funny and interesting. you don't really need to go to class because everything she says is in the book, but if your not a fan of reading definately go. its worth the time. id suggest sitting in front, otherwise you will get bored and not everything she says or shows can be heard or seen from far away.
I managed to pull off a B despite missing a couple of assignments. I suggest you don't miss any classes cus there is a good amount of homework. And do the homework, it should be easy. Extra credit is given. She's really funny. Definitely not as bad as others have said!
I managed to get an A although this class was very time consuming. STUDY A LOT. TYPE AND DO ALL YOUR HOMEWORK (no matter how stupid it is). Do the extra credit assignment. B's on exams and an excellent homework grade will assure an A. The class leaves you sad since she talks negatively a lot... but she has her own humor to make up for it.
expects you to remember a lot of psychbio. posts slides on BB. 2 in-class exams, 3 online exams (inc. final), 2 hws. tests are MC & from the book. in class exams were pretty hard, but online ones were easy since its open book. dr deckard is fair, the material is just difficult. just study a lot before the exams. beginning of semester is the hardest
Class isn't too hard. Just read or go to class. 5 tests (including final that is not cumulative), 2 BEs, a few short online quizzes and a brain diagram. BE's are pretty easy and you get a chance to redo them for full credit. Studying is required. She's a good teacher and is very helpful.
85% is an A. 75% is a B. nuff said.
AVOID. I took this class because I was interested in how drugs affected the human brain but now 0% interest. Did not respond to ANY of my emails, Did not announce assignments on BB when it was stated on the syllabus that it would be announced. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID.
No need to go to lecture. her textbook is short and very easy to read. if you're gonna walk out early during lecture, just dont go cause she hates that. 85% is an A, so super easy class for PSY 100! 5 exams & few easy assignments (get to turn in revisions for perfect score). She's nice, although she may be intimidating in the beginning. Take her!
She is funny at times. Don't really need to go to class because tests are based on the book. There was just one time where she gave extra credit for attendance because people started to leave. Her class is okay. Just make sure to do the reading.
Her class is REALLY easy. Just read the chapters a few days before the day of the test and you'll ace the exam. Her lectures will not help you whatsoever on the exam. She also gives 5pts extra credit on every exam.
Took her last year for psych 100. i wouldnt call this class easy like what some people are saying on here. i did have to study a lot to get 90s in the tests. she doesnt explain well, give her personal opinion about things irrelevant to the topic matter, but i hear she's easier than the other psych profs. just read the book and study hard with it.
Deckard knows her stuff. She is very sarcastic, opinionated, and hilarious and it makes the class fantastic! She lectures separately from the book so you learn double material and the exams were online so that was helpful. I learned so much in this class and would recommend it for anyone! Studying and reading required to do well.
dont even bother going to class. tests are straight outta the book. She's grumpy and not the kinda person that will brighten your day. dont waste your time by sitting in her boring lectures. just stay at home and read the book and youre good to go. Her tests are all about applying the concepts so study well.
This teacher irritates me. She is so sarcastic and her class is just a damper on my day. She lectures straight from the book. I never went to class and I did fine on the tests. The online quizzes are dumb and oddly worded. Not much homework but she's kind of a tough grader. At least she lets you re-do the assignments to make up points.
Boring class, don't bother going to lectures. Tests are not easy as you think so you really got to read. BE papers are not bad and you have a second chance to redo them for a better score. Online quizzes are annoying to do. Only thing I like about her class is her grading scale. 100-85 is an A,84-75 is a B, 74-65 is a C, and so on.
This class is pretty hard. Her exams are really difficult. I had to read the chapters twice to get an A or B on the exams. Online quizzes are easy and the BEs are okay.
Honestly, the class in itself is already hard. She isn't a bad professor and she does her best to make her students succeed. She curves our grades and gives extra credit points on every test. Her grading scale is 85% is an A, 75% is a B and so on. She also posts the notes online and you're obviously going to have to work to get the grade you want.
I hated this class! The exams were so hard, she is so boring, and the class is useless! She went on random subjects that didn't pertain to Psych at all. She basically re-states the text so there is no point in going to class. AVOID this class, its not worth your time!!
She is the best psych prof, i really loved this class. she knew her stuff.
I don't understand why people find this class difficult. You never have to go to class and although she does go completely off topic in her lectures, it shouldn't matter because the exams are based entirely on the book. As long as you read, you'll do just fine.
Her class is super easy if you read the book! ALL of her tests are based off the book, I never went class and I got B's on all her tests. The wileyplus quizzes are helpful too. I didn't really enjoy the class, she went off topic a lot and she's very sarcastic.
She maintains a consistent sense of sarcasm throughout the course, and classes can feel LONG, bring gum. prepare for online quizzes beforehand with others. Our grade is mainly based on tests are based solely on the book BUT paying attention to lectures can give you a better idea of what to expect on the test. but not really... lol.
I don't see the point of attending this class. Her powerpoints don't really help. No matter how much I studied on my own using the textbook, it didn't seem to do any good either. Her exam questions made you really think. If you know the key terms that simply won't cut it for the exams. Strongly suggest you read every little detail in the book.
Tests are hard but all based on the book. She sometimes gives extra credit when a lot of people dont show up. I slept a lot in that class and still passed
Dr. Deckard is a nice professor but you basically learn from reading the book. I attended every lecture and it wasn't helpful at all! The Exams are straight from the book with about 10 critical thinking questions and a few extra credit questions. Read every detail from the book!
She is the reason I changed my major.
She's sarcastic. Her class is passable. Her tests are difficult but if you read and look over the power points, you'll do fine. She does take extra credit attendance at random.
Easy class. Straight forward. No tricks. Attendance is not mandatory, as class is held in a lecture hall of 200-300 people. However, purchasing of the book will be mandatory if you want a class. Reading the book is also necessary. I believe there for 3 exams, all of which were multiple choice. Class is cake.
I took Dr. Deckard for a retake. She doesn't take roll but she gives extra credit for attendance if people leave. 5 exams, a brain diagram, BEs. Typical PSY 100 class. You DO need to read the book, and the class uses WileyPlus. Her lectures are boring but she does know her stuff. Answered everyone's questions. Take her, she's not bad.
Dr. Deckard shows no empathy towards students. During lectures, she speaks about nonsense that has little affiliation with psychology. She is rude to students and she has a surplus of sarcasm. She is very vocal about her belief in evolution and how you must have special needs of you believe in God. Not a recommended teacher at all.
You could miss class on every non test day, and still get an A. Because it is a GE we HAVE to take it, if it wasn't I would have dropped it as soon as possible. She doesn't teach she just reads her powerpoint, that is in fact posted online. The test are solely based on the book and the homework is doable.
I hated this class. It's not hard. It's just sooooooo boring.
Deckard is a nice professor. Although, the problem with taking her class is that she could be very unclear about the subject. Also, tests are multiple choice but long. I wish she was more interesting. I don't recommend taking her.
You have to use wiley plus (mandatory quizzes) & it comes with a textbook so save yourself $120. The lectures are her reading the powerpoints (they're online) & often rambling about how you must be crazy if you believe in God. 2 credits from psych experiments (easiest part) a brain diagram and two behavior explanations. if you don't read youll fail
Boring boring class. She is very opinionated and comes off a bit rude. The material is not hard but she doesn't help much with her lectures. Sometimes she'll ramble off topic. Powerpoints are online. I took her because her class was the only one that fit in my schedule. Next time, even if her class is my only option, I would not take her again.
THis teacher has many one sided opinions. If you don't agree with her, she considers you "less-evolved" and idiotic. Her lectures are very long and not very informative. She scrolls through important slides too fast and spends 20 minutes on slides that do not matte at all. I definitely do not recommend if strong atheists offend you.
Students complained about her and said she was too hard, but really the material for this class was difficult, and she did her best to explain clearly. Gave two online exams, let us two pages of notes for the final, curved exams, and gave out extra points. She knew the material was hard and she helped us best she could. Would take her again.
DO NOT TAKE HER! At first I thought her sarcasm was funny but it gets old FAST. Tests are on the book and not so much on her lectures. I never really showed up unless I had to turn in an assignment. I got a B in the class, no thanks to her. She does take attendance though if she notices there are a lot of people absent.
WORST PROF. I am a good student with a 3.8 GPA, that was wrecked by rcvng a 'C'; I was really looking forward to taking Neuropsych. bc i loved Biopsychology & received an A. She was just dreadful. She DOES NOT "teach" at all & practically NOTHING she lectures about in class is on her exams. ALL from the book. You teach yourself. Passionless prof.
This lady was something else. I could tell she had really good intentions, but her exams had nothing to do with the material she lectured about. You could tell she would much rather be elsewhere, NOT with such younger classmen.
Overall, I REALLY enjoyed her class. It is necessary to do the reading to do well on quizzes, and their is a lot of material. However, to earn an A in her class all you need to get is an 85% which is pretty cool.
I loved Biological psychology so I thought I would love Neuro but the course was tough. She does her best with this difficult material but the book we used was not great. 5 exams, 3 online (still hard) and a couple of homework assignments and crossword puzzles. Overall with a better text this class would of gone a lot better.
She rarely stays on topic. She rants about her family and how being religious is "stupid" and she doesn't really lecture, so the book will definitely be needed. It's more of a self teach type of class. Attendance is counted, but not needed to pass. I passed with a B with rarely going to class. Try to avoid her if possible.
Hard course, harder then it should of been. She does try her best, but she can also get off topic. 5 exams with 3 online and a lot of little homework assignments here and there. The final is really hard since you get so use to online exams. Grading material could of been clearer, she does not post what you need to get to pass class in syllabus.
Dr Deckard is a very tough teacher . Like the tag says get ready to read this class is no joke one of the hardest teachers i have ever had. Two in class tests, 3 online exams, and various assigments
Attendance isn't mandatory as long as you read the book. She is a really nice professor overall. Just make sure you read!!
3 midterms 1 final. 3 online quizzes. 2 short papers. honestly this class can be an easy A if you just read. Its A LOT of reading though. i never went to her class because all she did was read off the lectures she posted online and tried to be funny. could be kind of rude sometimes but eh. i got a B on the midterms. A's on the papers.
Attending class is pointless. You learn more just by simply reading the book than in class.
Took Deckard for critical thinking, she is a tough grader but overall her lectures are very interesting and I enjoyed her class. Attendance is the key to an A: she goes over everything on the test, no surprises, but it is tough. Expect homework though which she may or may not collect. There are 3 exams and 1 final. An 85% is an A in her class.
Worst professor. Doesn't teach well, just reads super technical jargon off her slides. Endless, unhelpful powerpoints. Ask a question, met with snarky response. Does NOT respond to emails, & good luck finding her in office hours. AVOID THIS CLASS. Even though exams (except final) are online/open book, I still struggled to get B's & I'm an A student
She made an interesting subject, dry, boring, & painful. I worked my butt of in this class, but I constantly felt disrespected by her. She's very upfront with her beliefs, & openly insults anyone who disagrees with her. She's very negative; I felt drained every time I left class. She gives lots of meaningless homework & projects. Avoid taking her!
Tests are really hard the questions make you think harder than you should. Read the book and study the power points there is a lot of material so try not to procrastinate! A couple of online quizzes, 2 behavior explanations, 1 brain diagram, research participation, 1 final ( very hard)! GOODLUCK
If you have a choice, avoid Deckard's class. She does not give clear instruction about assignments. Her lectures are very long and often do not cover relevant material. She doesn't really cover what is on the tests in her lectures so you'll have to rely on the book and the powerpoints she posts online.
Very disrespectful. She has strong views and shuts down your views if you disagree with her on matters that are highly controversial and debatable. Her tests are hard so you need to read and study a lot, but the behavior explanations are easy, plus she gives you a second chance to revise it. She goes off tangent a lot during lecture
Yes, she does come off as opinionated and goes on tangents sometimes, but she's actually a really nice and hilarious lady! Lectures are pretty straight forward and occassionally she incorporates interesting facts and statistics; tests are hard. Reading the book is a must to pass. The grading scale is curved, 85% is an A. Great class overall.
She is very rude towards one's beliefs. She is also a very boring teacher, did't learn much in class. If you unfortunately have to take her, you should read the book, it is more clear than she is. Lots of people wouldn't go to class because there was no point, just read the book and you will be fine. Only good thing is that she curves the grades.
WORST TEACHER EVER!! DO NOT TAKE! Extremely hard tests. A ton of reading. Terrible lectures. Rude professor. I'm an A student with a 3.9 GPA and I struggled to get a B in her course.
In reality this class should have been very simplistic from her lecture notes but her test were something else. Her tests may have been online but it seemed like she opened the chapter put her finger down on a sentence and made a test question out of it. In class she would drone on and on about things she did not even test on. Avoid her if you can
What I thought would be interesting turned to be a nightmare. The tests were very difficult even if you were prepared still difficult. Her lectures were interesting but often she went off topic. Definitely need the textbook most material from tests were on the book. She would post lectures online. But her tests and quizzes are the worst.
Seems intimidating at first, but actually really nice! She was very funny, and her lectures were always interesting. She also posts lecture notes before the lecture. Everything higher than 85% is an A
She is intimidating but she is nice and tries to explain the material well. I suggest copying down the notes before class and read the textbook. The test are somewhat confusing but if you read the textbook, go over key vocab and review the notes it should be fine.
The worst/most boring lecturer I've ever had. Do not take her class, you have been warned.
Most boring lectures ever! the tests are not like the power point presentations. Homework was fairly easy.
Going to class in pointless, she posts all her notes online. The book helped me way more then her powerpoint did. Little bit of homework but very easy. 4 Online quizzes. Test are a bit hard you will need to study! Mainly your grade depends on the tests.
Rarely takes the time to help her students, made me feel like she could care less about me. When speaking to fellow students many of them said the same thing. Her notes can be found online but be prepared to eat, sleep and essentially live with your textbook. Even after studying for hours her quizzes make little sense. Good luck.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! She does not care about her students grades. Couldn't go to her office hours because it was during another class so she would not help me at all. Prepare to waste your weekends away studying for tests that you will still get bad grades on.
She post everything online so you do not need to go to class, it is too large for her to take role, so she doesn't.I had a family emergency, but she still didnt let me make up assignments or reply to my emails. She also says she doesn't reply on weekends. She is rude, test are hard b/c some q's are trivial so you wouldnt think so study that info
Not very helpful. She mostly reads off her powerpoint and talks the whole time. Sometimes disrespectful to opposing views. I would just study by myself instead of going to class because the material can be self-taught. You do have to buy a WileyPlus access code (around 120). Try to get another professor, but if not possible, just don't go to class.
Lectures are not tested on. Exams are extremely textbook specific, literally memorize everything in the chapter if you want to do well on the exams. Good thing is that most exams are done online but the bad thing is theres always 3/4 answers on multiple choice that could be correct . She really doesn't care about helping you out.
READ THE BOOK. Her lectures can be helpful for review after you read, but are not enough for her tests. All her exams come straight from the book. There are also online quizzes, two behavior explanations, and crosswords on days she cancels lecture.
Not even worth attending for two hours per week. She is not passionate about psychology and reads directly off her powerpoints. The key to passing: read the textbook. Deckard also has a tendency to create a hostile environment towards men, making the lecture hall incredibly awkward from time to time.
A lot of people disliked her but I didn't mind. Don't sweat it. You honestly don't have to show up to class; if you have an assignment due tell a pal to turn it in or just go. READ THE TEXTBOOK at least three days before an exam. You do have to memorize everything but it's better than going to class. P.S. I LOVE HER LIBERAL VIEWS THO.
Don't take this class for an easy A. Her class was difficult, but not impossible to get an A in. This class was hard in the sense that her lectures did not help whatsoever. I rarely showed up to class and still got an A. The tests are book based, so I just skim the chapters and studied the lecture slides. She also makes 85% and above an A.
Honestly, the class is okay and you REALLY DON'T have to go to lecture. Her tests are ENTIRELY book based. Use the WileyPlus because the practice quizzes are very similar to the actual exams. Her lecture content isn't on the exams at all and she posts them all on Beachboard. Have to work for the A (85% and above)
funny teacher but her class is super boring. everyone fell asleep in her class! going to class is not mandatory since she doesn't take role. I personally needed the book since her lectures weren't enough (and too boring) to pass her very difficult tests. her tests always gave me headaches ! many people didn't get the book but I recommend it.
As others have said, she is very funny, but her course is rigorous. Get the connect access code when you buy the book and take the practice quizzes online. Some of those questions are on the exam. The practice exams are the main reason why I passed. Attending class is not mandatory, but make sure you do the readings.
