Unclear organization of lecture material. Extraordinarily tough multiple choice tests (5 tests) - often bellcurved up. Generous marking of essays, though.
Tested on what she didn't teach
not an inspiring teacher
Goes out of her way to NOT be helpful. beware of evil traps, she has lots. notes are kind of scattered, thousands of handouts.
Just read the other comments; amen! makes an easy clas HARD! HARD-ass quizzes, unclear notes, hard marking on essays too. GAH!
Probably the worst teacher in the history of anything. Unclear, disorganized, and no sense of humour whatsoever.
I CAN"T STAND HER!!!! She embarrasses her students by singling them out, and she is so unreasonable it makes me sick! Classes are BORING.. don't bother going.. and her tests.. lol waste of anyone's time! avouid this class (and teacher) at ALL c
regurgitation of bio 12.. i felt like i was in high school again!
I felt that Bev was a great instructor. She makes you work hard for your mark but all test material was fair and relavent. Lots of notes to take down but very interesting material.
I don't think Bev was that bad at all! Sometime lectures were kinda boring, but overall tests were pretty easy and she marks presentations/papers pretty fairly
shes never wrong in her mind, dont argue with her, hard tests
I just love her! She is a very fair marker. Her tests are hard, but she gives a bonus assignment to make up for it. She gave me a two week extension on my research project without even asking why I needed it. She gives interesting demonstrations :)
Worst teacher ever. Don't bother debating with her, your view will disregarded. It's her way or the highway. Be careful on interpreting test questions, they are very poorly worded. Assignments are not explained in enough detail. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
really unclear, i have no idea what she wants from the assignments. don't bother ever questioning the material or disagreeing with her. test are poorly worded, then she does not understand what the student is asking when they want further clairity.
Boring as hell, thinks she knows it all, questions on tests aint got the bestest grammer, extremely hard to understand what she's looking for in an answer.
Although Bev can be unclear at times, I felt her to be a fairly easy marker. She is always willing to help you with papers and assignments. Lectures can include a lot of notes but all of it very interesting. I would totally have Bev as a prof again.
Ugh. One of the worst teachers I've EVER had. Boring, monotonous, and even a little condescending.
This is the best course and Professor I have had. I recommend anyone who is interested in working with children, take this one.
Bev is just lovely! She may seem to know alot more than her students, but it's because she does! She is very knowledgeable and she is more than willing to help you if you need it! I would reccomend her for sure!
Child development is an interesting course to take from Bev. She teaches you lots if cool stuff and although she expects you to work for your grades, she really does prepare you for the workload in later years of school. It is well worth it to take a course form her!
Bev was always very organized when teaching and she was very clear with her lessons as well as when describing an assignment. She was also very confident in her knowledge of psychology. An excellent professor!
Bev has helped me view my relationships and my communication with "new eyes." She is very organized. Her course outline is a helpful guideline and she followed everything she said she was going to do. In fact, I've recommended her to myself, as I've had her for Psyc. 130.
I recommend this course by this instructor. Bev is very knowledgable, approachable, and her classes are interesting. I think this course should be taken by anyone working with children.
Bev is one of the best teachers i've ever had. She makes the course easy to understand. Her tests are easy if you go to class and study. plus she basically gives you the short answer questions,so there really is no reason you should do bad on her tests. I recommend her. She changed my view of physch
Bev is so helpful! She is the kind of prof that gives you her phone number at home and really taked the time to help you! Don't be afraid to approach her because once you do you will see that she is very nice!
Awesome teacher. Bev makes the class fun and enjoyable. I thought I wouldn't like taking psychology but now it has become my favorite class. I recommend this class by Bev!
This is a great course taught by a great professor. Bev is flexible with offering help and she is clear and well organized. I enjoyed the stories she shares in class that brings meaning to the information covered. I recommend this course by her.
Her classes are so boring and she can have a bit of a temper. She didn't like 3/4 of the people in the class and acted rude towards them.
I just read the comment that Bev was rude and let me tell you that's just simply NOT true!! I found her to be very nice. She makes herself available to help her students whenever she can. She knows her stuff but don't be intimidated because she will help you learn the material as much as possible!
This class was interesting and fun. Bev is very knowledgable, experienced, and helps you understand the material. She is a fair marker and very approachable for help. The college needs to have more profs like her.
Bev is a quality prof. If you respect her, she will respect you and is very helpful. Generous marker. Tests are easy if you read the book. I would definetly take her class again.
Doesn't have a very good grasp of the English language which is unfortunate considering it's her mother tongue. Words constantly used in the wrong tense, incomplete sentences with words omitted while speaking...I guess I just expected more from someone in her position
Bev is a one of the best prof. I have had for Psyc. Her stories and examples make learning the course material interesting and easy to understand. I would definitely try to get in to another one of her courses again.
Bev is a great prof. She use examples to explain and help students understand the material. The course is hard work but you learn a lot. I love coming to class because Bev makes learning fun I will look for more courses to take from her.
I found that she is indeed nice but lacking in her ability and information. Many of her hand outs for notes and such are filled with spelling errors and are disorganized. She seems a bit out of touch on some of the current psyc issues she teaches and seems at time condescending to certain students.
Bev was one of the best professors in psyc. that I had. I found she makes the course fun, interesting, and teaches by example. I recommend taking this course as Bev is a fair marker and very approachable. I am going to enroll in another course by her.
Bev is one of the best professors I have had. The lectures are clear interesting and she uses experiences and examples to explain the concept. She is a fair marker and is easy to talk with should you need to meet with her. Highly recommended.
One of the best professors I had. Lots of interesting stories and Bev makes the course fun. Fair marker and she uses a lot of case examples for explanations. Take this course, from her.
Fascinating class. Anyone thinking about becoming a parent or working with children should take this course, from Bev. She makes learning fun and is easy to talk with. Classes are interesting and assignments and tests are marked fairly. This is the second class I have taking from her and she is great<1
Bev is a great professor! Uses lots of stories from her personal life to make the course content interesting and fun. Lots of opportunites to discuss and tests and assignments are meaningful. Recommended!
Bev is an extremely helpful and approachable teacher. She is also a very easy marker.
Bev is an excellent teacher. She went above and beyond the call of duty to help me with an assignment. Her classes were great, and everyone in our class agreed. I'd reconmend her to anyone.
Excellent teacher. Bev is supportive, informative, and makes learning fun! I have taken two courses from her; recommended.
154 was fairly easy assignments to complete, bit of a tough marker. Good luck getting an A in this class. NOTHING LIKE 110, neither is 130 like either the 2, 110 was a joke, 130 & 154 are completely different, even from themselves in structure even though I had Bev for both... odd. 130 is brutal and boring, 154 is fairly easy but again gl on that A
Great course and Bev is clear, interesting, and informative. She really knows her stuff, is a fair marker, and makes you think rather than simply tells you the answer. Be sure to keep up with the readings. She likes lots of participation. Recommended.
Best professor, I have ever had! Highly recommended!
This class was a little on the boring side and Bev's instructions/questions are not clear at all. Her tests are really easy and so are assignments.
She is so hard to understand. My desk mates and I sit there completely confused by anything she tries to get us to do. Her instructions are not clear and like said before, her grasp on the english language is horrible. So many spelling errors and even when shes talking. Avoid.
Great class! Bev makes learning fun and meaningful. This is one of my favorite courses and it is because Bev made it so. If you have a chance to take a course from her, do it!
Great class! Bev makes learning fun and meaningful. This is one of my favorite courses and it is because Bev made it so. If you have a chance to take a course from her, do it!
This class was very interesting. Communication is so valuable, take it!
bev was an ok teacher. She had a hard time calming the class down especially at my table.
Bev is a really nice person...so long as you aren't answering questions in her class. Everyone is scared to raise their hand because she singles them out, then belittles their answer. Everyone tries not to make eye contact with her. Classes were boring, unless you disciplined yourself to pay attention, and the workbook assignments seemed pointless.
This course was informative and very useful in my life and Bev made this so. Great course taught by a great teacher
This class rocked! Bev made this class interested and fun. I learned a lot and enjoyed coming to class, even late evenings.Assignments are interesting and tests are fair.
Bev is friendly, but loves to lay down a lot of homework. She's an easy marker but incredibly boring in lectures. This class will NOT make you like psyc but it probably won't make you hate it either.
Bev is helpful in and out of the classroom. Lectures are fun and kept me interested. She is approachable and easy to talk with. If questions, she will work with you until you know the answer.
What. The. Hell. I realize Bev has lots of experience, but HOW is she a prof? Homework is useless but crazy time-consuming. "Quizzes" are terrible; easy, but they don't cover significant information. Her grammar is TERRIBLE, forcing you to decipher tests before being able to write them. Ultimately, v. boring and easily surpassed by others. AVOID.
very knowledgeable, I learned a lot
The class was pretty easy. I was done the class 3 weeks before the end of term which didn't make me want to go to class therefore not learning anything. But she is a wonderful teacher.
Bev is extremely patient, and wonderful to work with.
The course was composed of a small quiz each week worth 40% of your mark, and 2 other assignments and a test. Not sure how I got an A+ on everything but ended the course with a B+? The content was interesting, but Bev spent a lot of time not knowing the answer to questions/ correcting answers she gave.
Bev is great! I learned a ton from her. Attendance wasn't mandatory but I think it is very important in order to get a good grade. She made the material fun and interesting. The projects assigned were great and while she was a tough marker it just made me work that much harder. Reccomended for those who are keen to learn a lot.
Bev is an amazing teacher! Very genuine, caring & understanding regarding your level of learning & situations. She`s quite helpful if you don`t understand. I am definitely going to take more psychology classes with her.
Not very clear on test content, etc. Research project very confusing and too broad.
I really enjoyed Bev's class. You can definitely tell she loves what she does! She's a fair marker, and an understanding person. I enjoyed her teaching style. :)
Lovely instructor, who cares about her students and her subject.
As long as you memorize the textbook you'll get an A+. Taken her a bunch of times because in that sense she's really easy. Completely memorization.
Worst teacher ever! Lectures are dry and boring, will make you do a presentation, test and take notes in one class!! Thinks she's right all the time and will argue with you even if she's wrong. Do not take this class with her!!!
Worst teacher ever!!! Lectures are dry and boring and goes by notes way to fast! She will make you do a presentation, write a test and take notes in one class! Always thinks she's right and will argue with you if she's wrong. Do not take this class with her!
This class stressed me out a lot more than it should have. Bev gives out the assignments but then is VERY vague on the details and it causes confusion. In the end though, I shouldn't have worried because she is a VERY easy marker. And the textbook wasn't horrible to read either! Don't expect to be able to skip a class though, attendance is vital.
Bev was great instructor, I think that is best course I had taken from year and a half studying at Camosun. She teachs really well this course, and it is must to take this course to use in daily situations. AND I don't want to be a fixer.
Bev is a very helpful prof, and you can tell she loves what she is doing.
Lectures are dry and lack interesting topics that keep the class engaged. Any random group work assigned to do in class holds little value and doesn't teach you anything. Her teachings on the context verbally and in her own work book are so confusing I have to find other sources to understand. I recommend avoiding this teacher.
While she is a sweet lady, she is probably one of the most useless prof's I've ever had. Completely inconsistent and unclear, and is unable to answer any question clearly and concisely. The most disorganized prof as of yet, she posts the quizzes online accidentally. Avoid if you want to actually learn anything, this was a huge disappointment.
Very nice woman, a bit vague on test content and projects. She states she doesn't test you on anything except her lecture notes but then there is information she has mentioned or something you saw in text on tests. Huge presentation is disappointing - they never help anyone.
I initially found Bev really frustrating to learn from, disorganized and unclear but I did come around during the course to finding her very knowledgeable, approachable, and someone who can see the depth and subtlety of the material she teaches. If you can get over the delivery the content of what she can offer is pretty special.
Bev is my least favorite teacher at Camosun. Her lectures are poorly organized, and details on class assignments and tests are hard to understand. The questions on quizzes are often worded very poorly, and there always spelling errors! Don't take her class!!!! She is very very frustrating, and imporrible to learn anything from.
Although Bev is a really nice lady, she is incredibly unclear. What she says in class will be completely different from the 15 or so handouts she gives you.. She loves her handouts and all of them are outdated, or filled with spelling errors or just generally confusing on the criteria. Her quizzes are hard and worded poorly. Not worth it for me.
A bit abrasive at first, but she sets up the syllabus to make it as easy as possible for the student to get things done. Always willing to help you and will adjust marks if everyone in the class gets something wrong. She loves handouts, and her lectures can be a bit confusing, but she gives clear study sheets for the tests.
Bev loves psychology and you will too. At first I wasn't going to take this course as an elective but glad i did. Bev knows her material and wants you to learn. She will go the extra mile for her students. She uses lots of examples in her lectures.
Her class was great. Lectures dragged on at times because of all the content she tried to talk about in one class. She is very understanding and will help you feel less stressed about anything in her class like test or group projects. Just ask for help and she will give it to you.
Bev is great. If you have any questions or need more help on ANYTHING she's super willing to help. Some lectures were incredible boring and I could have spent my time better, but others were fabulous. Overall she's a pretty good professor, although sometimes her personal views on subjects are pretty blatant.
Professor Lenihan is clear, straightforward, and pleasant to learn from. Tests were frequent, and (long) chapters of reading necessary to do well on them. One oral presentation, and two transcription assignments. Lengthy class requiring dedication, though enjoyable overall.
Bev is alright as a teacher. She's not clear when explaining things.. The whole class was confused for 10 mins because of lack of clarity. Lectures can be boring. Textbook readings are long.. But all the quizzes come straight from the text. Bev is a super wonderful person! She is one of the kindest people I've met
Bev is very nice but very unclear with material. Lectures were very boring and rushed towards to end because she would go into too much detail during the beginning of the lecture. Must rely on textbook in order to do well in the course. She is a very easy marker.
Bev is wonderful! She's very approachable and always willing to help. I found the course really interesting and useful. The group project seemed intimidating at first but it turned out to be pretty fun! Just a tip, read the textbook chapters thoroughly bc they are what the tests are based on. And don't forget to prep for the essay questions!
Material was kind of all over the place. Posted all her slides on D2L making the it easy to skip lectures and still get info.
She will give you all the information you need for your test either by textbook or by lecture, usually both and more than once, just pay attention. If you have a question then email her, she will answer. If she says to highlight something than it is on the test. The textbooks she uses are sectioned into the concepts you need to know. Very clear.
Bev is an excellent teacher! She gives lots of opportunities for feedback and tells you what will be on the exam. She gives lots of examples in her lectures and gives you a clear understanding. She is very welcoming and an easy grader.
Bev is absolutely my favorite teacher I have ever had in my two years at Camosun. She is genuinely passionate about psychology & will go the extra mile for you/assist you to make sure you get the mark you want if you are willing to put in the work. Have questions? She is more then happy to answer them.
Bev is very understanding to people life outside of school and genuinely cares about how you are doing in her class. If you reach out to her she will do her best to help you achieve the mark you want. All about respect.
Bev has so much patience and is always there to answer any questions you may have. It's clear that she cares about her students doing well - there are no surprises and she marks very fairly. If you pay attention in class, read the textbook, and complete the assignments following her criteria, you will get a good grade.
I would recommend avoiding this class if possible, the main reason why you see people giving good ratings is because she marks very easy. Lots of handouts from her, often poorly explained-you will get 4+ things due in one week- frustrating. I found the teachings to be boring and did not come away with having learned anything. got good grades tho!
Bev is amazing and by far one of my fav professors. She does review exams one week before each midterm to help students time-manage and prepare efficiently. A nice balance of group and individual work. Consistent marker, and clear content on all review sheets and assignment outlines. If you have a passion, she will take notice.
Very nice lady, you can tell she wants the best for her students. The lectures are long but not necessarily boring, she is a very laid back instructor that's for sure. Would definitely take another class with her.
Did not enjoy this class at all. I love psychology but she ruined it for me. We had to do a presentation and the instructions were not clear at all. This teacher is not clear with want she wants her class to do and adds extra instructions last minute. other than that the tests were easy. but i would not recommend taking her class unless you have to
I really enjoyed Bev's class. It was a really nice welcome back to a school environment and I felt she was clear and concise about all the materials. I appreciate that she assures that her tests are standardized and also presents options for those who need to manage test anxiety. The group assignment was very clearly laid out in syllabus.
Bev cares a lot for her students. She gives points for attendance, but you still pass if you miss a couple of classes. Grading is fair and exams are fairly easy. Chapter Reviews almost every weak, so reading the chapter is mandatory. I didnt like doing the presentation but I really enjoyed this class.
Listen to the other reviews that say she's disorganized. Her assignments are so unclear and so uneccessarily complicated. She's also a caring woman but can get really snappy and condescending as well.
Bev knows what she wants and communicates it very clearly. If you don't follow her instructions to a "T" you will struggle. She literally gives you example work for every single thing she asks you to do. Just do exactly that and you'll get an A+! Chapter reviews every seminar and grades for attendance. Show up, do the work and it'll be easy.
Bev was a good teacher, in that she didn't mark super harshly if you understood the general basis of what she was talking about. Only one test for this class and you can choose when to have it (I recommend taking the first one). As well as that, in the 3 hour format there is a quiz at the end of every class but only 8/10 count! Solid class
Bev is hands down the kindest and most genuine professor I have ever met. She is extremely knowledgeable and her classes and tests are very easy. She is always open to giving extra marks and will do everything possible to help you get the grade you want. Best and easiest professor by far at camosun.
I would recommend. Very smart, knowledgable, caring. Lectures made interesting enough.
There were no big midterms or exams and 40% of your grade was on weekly quizzes. The quizzes were fairly easy and straight out of the lecture notes package. There's no reason to buy a textbook. The end of the semester there was a lot of things due all at once. She wasn't particularly organized and instructions weren't consistent or clear. Easy Mark
A lot of marks came from attendance (in class quizzes and participation marks) but the exams weren't super difficult as long as you studied the material and the assignments were fair. Managed to keep lectures interesting, and seems very knowledgeable on the subject. Would recommend.
I really like Bev's teaching style it works really well, She is a better in person teacher than online but I always learn things and they stick! She is always available for question and does not mind providing explanations to things in different ways when needed. She is very accommodating as well if you keep open communication and loves feedback.
I took two courses with Bev - one online and one in person. Her tests are fair and accurate since they come from the textbook, but what she says in lecture is sometimes inaccurate - especially when it comes to child development. She also said that a lot of mental illness is just for attention... not what you want to hear from a psych prof.
This was by far the most laid back online course I've taken. There was three options for assignments and you do one of them. Quizzes are straightforward and are every other week. Discussion posts are every other week. Make sure you add a lot of detail to them. She responds to questions quite fast which helps for an online class.
Answered your emails but with ambiguous explanations and the plattform that makes us buy, you just use it to read and watch some video that at the end of the day the corresponding activities must be uploaded on D2L. Its ends being an unnecessary and very expensive purchase in my opinion.
Her tests are quite easy; however, she is not very patient when answering e-mails. She does not seem to want to help the students when they are having difficulties.
If you are an international student or a visible racial minority, please do NOT take a class with Beverley. She was openly racist to international students in class to the point where most stopped showing up.
Information provided is often inconsistent to the text. Assignments are disorganized. The instructor is disrespectful and disinterested in providing instruction to students. Lacks professional boundaries. Better suited in other vocational practices. Does not update materials and provide guidance nor valuable feedback in the learning process.
I am surprised that this professor is teaching at Camosun College. The course materials, instructions and grading practices were conflicting and self-contradictory in some cases. Exam questions included multiple errors that are difficult to interpret. The instructor engages in unsafe conduct. I did not find value in this course nor my experience.
For an online class, big work load with quizzes every week and lost of readings. Bev was very unempathetic and inflexible when I had an emergency arise mid-semester. She seems cold and out of touch of what its like to be a student nowadays.
I believe that Bev is passionate about psychology, but not about teaching. I took 130 with Bev as a hybrid course and I did not enjoy it at all. The material is pretty disorganized, and the lectures were not very helpful. She can seem like she does not want to be there, but I was never disrespected by her directly.
Bev runs a solid class overall. The grading style is flexible, with one test you can choose the timing for and quizzes that only count your top 8 out of 10. Unstuck AI was a great supplement to the textbook and lectures.
Took the online/self-paced psych 130 course with Bev. Assignment instructions are unclear for the most part and material is disorganized, often with spelling mistakes. She seemed disinterested in teaching…at least this course. When I emailed her for clearer instructions on an assignment, there was a back and forth with blunt answers. Not helpful.
I took her psych 130 class online, asynchronous. The slides were often incoherent, making the course content unnecessarily time consuming to understand. All the tests, even the final are online and multiple choice. It was fairly easy overall but pretty frustrating as I felt no effort was put into the course.
