willing to help you as long as you ask. grades based on portfolio (easy as long as you keep everything) meaning grades based on your improvement not how much she likes/dislikes your work.
I am NOT an english major but yet we are given intensive writings that she rips apart. No matter what you write she doesn't like it.I feel like a writing machine. She has to realize this is not our only class that we have assignments in.
Neiderman sucks. If you take her class you'll regret it.
The worse prof ever. Contradicts herself all the time and changes paper topics at the last minute. All we did was write, write, and write, most was busy work.
She marked me late on the first day of class. its abig campus i was lost come on. she only gives u a good grade if she likes your topic. i was in the hospital and she took points off for attendance... hope she retires soon
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. I got an A- and I still hate her. She doesn't know enough about her subject matter to be teaching at the college level. Lots of misinformation.
She is the worst English teacher i have ever had. She's extrmely unclear with assignments and the amount of work given is very unreasonable for a freshman level course.
Her class was the worst class I think I could have been in. I don't understand how so many peoplehate her and she is still teaching. If you can try to get another professor because she has no clue what she is talking about, Good Luck!
For all of you people who said that she sucks obviously didn't get to know her. If you turn in your rough drafts early or even meet during her office hours, she will help you out as much as she can and let you know what you need to fix on your papers to get an A. SHE DOES NOT SUCK!!! GRRRRR!

Our class was a peer rvw class which wasnt helpful. Not sure how someone in the same class is going to know anymore about wrtg than I do. I wish we handed in rough-drafts but one of the reviewers is right if you have the extra time to go in and meet with her Im sure you'd get more out of the class.
Shehas no idea what she is doing

she was by far the worst professor i've had in all of college. and i'm almost done with my degree. she doesn't have a clear understanding on the material herself. and so she's pretty terrible at conveying it to students.
I thought she was very helpful. If you go to her office hours and ask for help she will help. Everyone who says she sucks, obviously never took the time to ask her for help or go to her office hours. She's a good prof-at least I think so

Had her for general english, but class was all about feminism. I liked her a lot, very nice, if you just talk to her she is okay. Got an A.

She is a nut!
Very Nice Teacher...Gives A lot of Homework but if you do it you will be fine.
She cannot teach and is very unhelpful I would not take this class
Maj Modern Writers is not too bad of a class if you keep up with the reading. Go to class because attendance counts and she goes over what will be on the quizes and tests in class. Overall, not too bad
Neiderman is not a difficult or challenging teacher but if you appreciate having any independent thought or personal opinion I /don't/ suggest taking her.
She is always teaches the class with a very poor class lesson plan. I'm an education major and can notice one thing about her she is an expert on English not a teacher. By the way if you’re in English 11001 that is two semesters you can switch professors next semester you just need to tell an adviser before the due date to sign for spring classes.
she is the worst english professor that i have had in two years of college. she constantly contradicts her own points and trying to write a thesis for her is impossible.
she is so hard and I will never take with her even when I have to because she doesn't like any one in the wotld
this teacher is not clear on what assignments are due or what she wants for the assignment she is a lazy poor excuse of a teacher that is inflexible and is very disappointed when the assignments are not exactly how she wants it
To all those who are researching to pick teachers congrats. Your reward DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. She is unclear, unhelpful, and only teaching at kent because college teachers are paid more then high school teachers plus they are not held by thier students performatice.
She is the worst teacher I have had so far in college. She is extreamly unclear on what she wants for her assignmnets. What ever u do do not take her she will make your life hell
Neiderman sets goals, and challenges writers to improve themselves. While her course was challenging, she taught me to be a better writer. I wouldn't recommend her for slackers who want to get easy A's, but I would for people who would actually like to learn something. In response to some of the complaints, I can see why you probably failed. Cheers
This woman is very stressful and is a confusing teacher when learning what assignments her students have to do. I have learned a lot about writing however she makes your go about it down an independent route. I do not recomend this professor at all. I recieved a B in this class. I am not a lazy student and this is not a teacher you want.
Although her directions are unclear, she is very helpful if you have questions. She has a wide range of knowledge on the subject of writing. She gives great feedback, and always gives the opportunity to re-write papers for a better grade. Personally, I had a great experience in her class. She's a very nice woman.
She is one of the most unorganized people I've ever known. She is not very clear with her directions and she keeps adding extra stuff without telling us ahead. It's not gonna hurt if you take her class, but I'm sure you can find a better teacher!
Online Writing 2. She is so unorganized. Everything is everywhere. Each assignment is in three places with a different description of what she wants. I never have any idea what is going on in this class. It is bewildering. Her Ohio benefit bank assignment is terrible & dependent on people working with you at the site. My Grade for her is a D-.
Had her for Online Writing 2, and she is extremely stressful and anal about anything and everything that you turn into her. If you care to have any opinion at all, or any thought of your own, do not take her as she does not care about them.
Very disorganized and vague. Course was uninteresting. She is only helpful if you make the commute to meet with her (even though it was a web course). Was not a rewarding experience. Do not recommend for web courses.
Had her for Online College Writing 2...never been more stressed about a course before. Very difficult lady to please, her instructions are so all over the place and vague that I never really know what she wants. You can put hours into a paper and still get a D. She is helpful is you seek her out, and she is nice. Avoid her if you like your GPA.
She is a good teacher if you go to her for help. She wants her students to succeed, but you cannot expect her to come to you. She has a lott of classes to teach. I have her for College Writing II. I can't say I like the repetitive poverty theme, but it is interesting to learn to write different styles of papers. She grades hard. Cry About It.
She is a very hard teacher to please. Her work is demanding and she isn't very vesatile (spell check). Personality wise she can be jokeful, but isn't good at reading her students. She sterotypes to much for my liking.
She is absolutely awful. The class is very political based. She expects so much, but doesn't really give clear guidelines, so you lose points a lot. She knows she is difficult yet she doesn't care. I email her almost daily and still don't know what she wants. We finished papers and haven't received feedback after 3 weeks now. I could go on forever.
Neiderman is actually a very nice lady. Writing in the Public Sphere, however, is rather uninteresting and incredibly disorganized. You will find yourself emailing her a lot for clarification. She is willing to help but you must go see her in person. The projects are rather time-consuming.
Don't take. I took her not looking at her reviews & wish I never did. Although, she will help you she is so disorganized & the way she grades is very strict! If you want a GPA booster do NOT take this. I have a 3.1 & currently have a low C in her class. One of my least favorite professors I've had in the past three years.
Horrible. Awful. I despise writing but she made me realize why my major does not involve writing. Unfortunately College Writing 2 is a Kent Core requirement no matter what your major is. She wants so much out a student without giving them anything to work with.
If something can be said with 100 words, why use only 50? This is the theme for her syllabus and multiple indexes and makes it extremely difficult to decipher her expectations. She makes this class way harder than it needs to be. She is helpful and quick with email messages but students shouldn't have to message her as much as they do.
Absolutely the worst professor I've ever encountered. Does not know how to teach. Kent state needs to hire better professors than this.
Nothing she says Can make you a better writer. Take this coUrse with a different professor. do Not waste your Time.
*DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR EVER* She is the absolute worst teacher I've EVER had. If you ask for help, she does NOT help you. Go to the Writing Commons with all your issues if you get stuck with this professor. If you can avoid her, AVOID HER. Good luck if you do.....
VERY HARD ONLINE CLASS. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
DO NOT TAKE THIS LADY FOR COLLEGE WRITING 2 DONT EVEN ASK WHY JUST DONT!!!
Omg! Terrible, way 2 much writing. I wasn't taking this class 2 become a writer! But u would've thought I did! Stay away or be prepared 2 not have a life! Assignments do by 7 pm online, not good if u have a job & family.
This professor's problem is you will never understand what she wants. Prompts are vague and what she expects is subject to change. After you give her your papers, they may never see the light of day again as you will probably never get them back. Its not hard if you show up to class but the woman is so infuriating you should take something else.
Technical writing is a tough subject but if you do the assignments and follow instructions, you can easily pass. There is a lot of writing but it's a technical writing class, so do the math. Her instructions stated exactly what she expected and if you had questions, she always responded to emails in a kind and timely fashion.
This teacher was the worst I've had so far at Kent. She gives no clear instructions and is a very tough grader. She never gives back grades so most people have no idea what their grade in the class is. At the end of the class, I knew my first paper grade and that was it. She is very very tough and I would never recommend her.
Probably one of the toughest professors i have ever had. I would like to believe that she excepts all of her students to enjoy spending their time writing 10 page papers every 2 weeks. She fails to give feedback on long papers, and expects you to understand what she is implying when she leaves notes on blackboard. Save yourself from this class!
NEVER EVER EVER TAKE THIS PROFESSOR, she is rude and could care less to give anyone a nice grade they deserve, prepare to NOT have a life at all. You work? She doesn't care, 7pm is when all assignments are due. And you'll never know what she's asking you to do!!!
Never before have I had a professor that requires so much and gives so little help. Prepare to write countless papers that have absolutely nothing to do with the book you are required to read. Her feedback is very critical and does not offer ways to actually improve. She can be rude in class. BEWARE.
DO NOT TAKE BEVERLY NEIDERMAN. I can't even begin to describe the stress that she has put me through for an ONLINE COURSE IN MY SENIOR YEAR. She's rude, condescending, and has zero respect for her students. In my four years at KSU, she's HANDS DOWN the worst professor I've ever taken. Work my ass off and I am nearly failing her course.
Worst professor that Kent State has to offer. She is clearly slipped through the cracks and keeps her job because of her "relationship" with the program director. Don't waste your time and money on someone who will give you nothing for it.
All of her prompts are vague, yet she still grades extremely tough. You never know what she wants or what will come next. Only homework was writing papers and the occasional presentation. She's friendly, but not a good professor. Worst complaint: her grading and lack of helpfulness.
It is baffling how she is allowed to teach paying students. This was my first (and last) foray into the Kent State College of English. I had taken my two basic English classes elsewhere, and I have never been more thankful for that then right now. Worst learning experience of my Kent State career (120 credit hours, just graduated), look elsewhere.
DO NOT take any class taught by Prof. Neiderman. I am absolutely amazed that she even has a job at Kent State. After the third week of the semester I was trying to switch professors. I just finished my first semester of Freshman Honors Colloquium with her and I am required to take another whole semester with her. Unclear, rude, not helpful, awful.
Terrible experience. I would advise honors freshman and any student to avoid this professor. She is consistently rude and disrespectful to students. She is demoralizing and demeaning. Her grading criteria is non-existent, and prompts are vague. She tends to be emotionally manipulative and conducts her class with a God-like complex. WORST CLASS EVER
I don't mind tough graders, but it should be absolutely clear what is expected of me. This professor is a tough grader, but her prompts are unclear. She refuses to give a 10/10, instead she will give a 9.5 even when all criteria are met. Some very important medication was late and I was sick, and she basically told me to get over it.
I had her for College Writing and had a horrible experience. Unbelievably tough grader, which would fine if her instructions were clear but they are not. For a Kent core class there is way more assignments than I would ever imagine and you should expect to never achieve 100% on any of them. I would never recommend this professor for any class.
If you email her and ask questions for help, she will have your back. I emailed her so many times this semester with questions and rough drafts. She always got back to me in an efficient manner. Professional writing is very hard. You will not be successful if you don't spend time on the homework assignments or ask questions.
I should've tested out of this class, but I'm glad I didn't because I have gotten a lot out of it. Although her essay prompts are vague, Professor Neiderman is always available to talk you through it either by email or through office hours. She gives a lot of feedback which has helped my writing improve immensely. Course is work heavy but worth it.
My expectation for this class was to be writing different types and styles of writing to compare what the strengths and weaknesses of the styles were. With that expectation, I was disappointed. There was only one major subject and one writing style she wanted, no exceptions, and a limit on the research (5 years). Very restrictive. No creativity.
Easily one of the worst professors I have ever had. Too much work was assigned for the level a Kent core class is, and she seems to think your life revolves around her class. One of the first assignments was to read a full length book over the course of two days! I would recommend taking ANY other professor for College Writing II.
She expects way too much out of students that take the class. I'm a CCP student who tested into it, and I usually have A's and B's but this will be the first C I will get. We are writing an 8-10 page "research paper", only it is not a research paper but rather another argumentative essay. She didn't make that clear until 3 days before the due date.
Constantly told that my writing was not clear and concise even after trying on multiple occasions to learn how to be more concise. Hardly ever got feedback that I wouldn't deem rude. One such example is, "Do not use repeated, redundant, unnecessary, or empty word choice or phrasing."
Her 7PM deadlines show no regard for students with jobs or commuters who need extra time. As someone in both of these categories I can tell you I don't have the precognition to work in these time frames. The coursework will feel like a juggling act with more flaming bowling pins than you practiced with. Keep moving fast enough and you might survive
Arguably the worst professor I've ever had. Assignments are unclear and often contradictory. Feedback is not helpful and sometimes rude. Even following the book and lectures, my writing was still barely passible to her, even though writing is usually one of my stronger subjects. Take anyone else--it is highly unlikely you can get stuck with worse.
Professor Neiderman has been one of, if not, the worst professors I've had here at Kent State. Her expectations are never clear, and instructions are incredibly vague. Neiderman does not respect her students AT ALL and she's very condescending. She will never provide extensions, even if Kent's website is down. Feedback is rarely helpful.
I spent more time on this class than I ever spent on any other class. If you take hours a day to work on the class, you may end up with a B.
Incredibly vague and gives way too much work. The syllabus and course schedule have missing information about due dates. Terrible professor.
I have a 3.75 GPA in molecular biology. This was by far the most stressful class ever. Multiple times she would give feedback which was blatantly incorrect. I had multiple people from different graduate backgrounds read over my work, and her comments, and we all consistently agreed that she is nuts. Failed writer who needs to feel important, probs.
The most ridiculous grader I have ever had. So many unnecessary papers and posts it's ridiculous. She keeps changing her grading policies and is a freaking psychotic nazi about everything. Do not take her English 21011 class. I would rather fail than take her class again.
The worst professor you will ever have, I promise you for how much she stresses about no mistakes shes the CEO of grammar and punctuation errors. She is extremely unorganized with her class layout and doesn't get back to your emails for about a week and a half because "she's busy." You have to be able to read her mind to fully comprehend anything!
She's tough (I cried a lot), offers extra credit (you have to be the first one to volunteer for it) answered emails quickly and when I asked she was helpful. I didn't like that we only communicated through email or chat, sometimes phone/virtual is better and she seemed to not convey some tasks/assignments/material clearly. Class took up all of time
For a professor who preaches about perfect punctuation, she was very hypocritical throughout this semester with her unreadable rubrics. She is extremely lazy and showed no effort towards helping or teaching, instead, she would use outdated rubrics with last semester's dates! I can keep going on about how lazy she is but I am out of characters.
Ive had great grades my whole life until this class. She never gives full credit for an assignment. At the beginning of class, I emailed her often for help because her instructions were unclear. She would help me and then I would still get points marked off. She told me she doesnt have google docs by email. Everything is .doc not .docx.
I should have listened to the reviews. While I do not think she is as bad as everyone says proceed with caution. I learned a lot but it was costly on my mental health. This course may have caused me to burnout. If you are a people pleaser, have anxiety, or get nervous in front of authority I would consider steering clear <- this is why I struggled.
She's the craziest professor I ever had. If u can't write a paper with a strong thesis and all-library research, ur paper won't even pass. for discussion boards, even u meet all the criteria u still won't get full credit. And her requirements are not always clear. she has. If can't devote extremely lot enough time to this class u may hardly pass
DO NOT TAKE! This professor only provides negative feedback, yells in capital letters, repeats herself in communication that isn't clear, tends to be condescending, and even if you follow directions perfectly she says you don't and marks off points even if you have proof that you followed through properly. Beverly is 100% the WORST prof ever.
easy to contact but never answers questions directly. a 10 point assignment will have an essay of comments back on what you did wrong. assignments due every other day.
The class was asynchronous on blackboard. The layout was difficult to figure out and when I asked questions she was rude and basically told me to figure it out. extremely tough grader. will take off points for literally anything. It is almost impossible to figure out what she wants from the student. do not take her unless you absolutely have to.
I dont even need a full semester with her to know that she is truly the worst professor Ive ever encountered. Her rubric and syllabi are totally confusing and she has a very tough way of grading. For example, I got a 6.75 on a discussion post. A DISCUSSION POST. If you can help it, please do not take a class with her.
She is one of the worst professors I have ever had for a writing course. Neiderman uses a lot of words to describe what she wants that end up being pretty vague and unhelpful. Not only that but she also contradicts herself in many areas. There is too much material to balance with other classes, I suggest a different professor.
I am not the best or smartest student out there. If I work hard, I can get Bs. Her class is the only class I got a D in ever. I worked hard for this D, talking to her personally and going to the writing lab. She is understanding if you talk to her but it doesn't mean she will grade you easier. Just go to another professor!
Worst professor ever and gives really bad suggestions on writing that are often contradictory
Professor Neiderman was the worst professor I've ever had. I even did well in her class. Her prompts are extremely vague, but she grades tough. Writing assignments are due every other day and they are extremely involved. The Friday the big paper was due, she assigned a 4 page reflection paper due on Monday during finals week. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!
I know this class is tempting because it is online and you may think it is less work. It is not. Neiderman gives very little instructions on what she wants, then nitpicks things she never asked for. Feedback is confusing and contradictory. If there is nothing wrong with your submission she will find/make up an excuse to take off points.
This was the hardest class I have ever taken, the feedback did not make sense most of the time. There was so much work, I would work on this class so much. There are so many papers in short amounts of time.
This course was the most unecessarilly hard class I have ever taken in my life. I have a lot of email correspondence that shows her tendancy towards self-contradiciton and condescension. She had me physically input spaces in between lines in my works cited once because she refused to understand how formatting software works. Horribly hypocritical.
As of now I am still currently in the class, but wish I would've withdrawn or dropped it. Do not take this course with this prof, your grade within a few days will drop drastically. Her feedback is not helpful & very contradicting, making me feel like she does not understand how technology works via essays being graded very picky on tech issues.
confusing instructions, overlapped dates of assignments, strange plagiarism checking program that gives wrong results, and overall stress and unpredictability when you do a lot of intensive work that involves knowledge of computer science and social sciences but you keep getting bad grades
Beverly Neiderman... the ABSOLUTE WORST teacher anyone will EVER have. Extremely unclear even on the simplest of tasks, uses a plagiarism checking site that's completely wrong (says you plagiarized the title of the assignment and then gives no points bc of it??), replies to emails that don't answer your question, due dates change, just awful!!
She is an extremely tough grader. She gives terrible feedback. I dropped this class so it wouldn't bring down my gpa. I've always been a strong writing but for whatever reason, what I wrote was not good enough for her. I strongly advise everyone to take college writing 2 with anyone but her.
Please, do not take this class with this professor. This class gave me so much stress to the point of mental agony. I'd completely understand the work load if assignments were due at 11:59pm like most professors, however, when I took this course assignments were due at 10:00pm every MWF. Drop while you still can.
Worst class I have taken at the university so far. I should've dropped the course after the first week, but I have never had problems with my writing before during any college writing course. Nothing I wrote was good enough. Her feedback was often hypocritical, contradictory, and passive aggressive. Take this course with literally anyone else
She seems stuck in her ways (same assignments for 12+ years). Not an insane amount of work but be ready. Long feedback but it never helped. very nitpicky in the feedback/grading. Easy to get a hold of; not that it will help. grades seemed very deterministic. When I tried really hard I could get an 80 when I didnt I would get a 70. BIG waste of time
Do yourself a favor - skip this teacher.
I would recommend no one take any course with what could barley be called a teacher. Asking for any help on assignments just gets you referred to the prompt or rubric. Most prompts and rubrics are filled with mistakes and conflicting requirements that leave you confused. Feedback is very unhelpful and often filled with rude, condescending remarks
Very hard to navigate with unclear instructions! I would not take this professor again. She gives long feedback but does not provide much information, just a lot of words. Do not take this class if you care about your mental health
