It's chemistry...not the most amazing subject in the world. However, he teaches very well. He is very clear and will stop at what he is doing to answer any question in the room. I struggled at first. But not because of the teacher. Chem has a TON of material. Just study and take advantage of his office hours! He's very willing to help.

...I did not like his teaching style at all. His accent makes it hard to keep up sometimes. He's willing to help but only if you come to his office at the hours. His tests are quite tricky! I loved chemistry when i entered this class and i hated the class. Make sure to take advantage of the points from the assignments! You'll need those points!
Professor Baruah fully understands chemistry and cares for his students. He will answer any questions promptly and to the fullest until you understand it. Attendance is not mandatory. 4 Tests with reviews before them, drop lowest grade of the three. Several assignments given but are also easy. Recommend taking him for an easy grade.
Hard to understand his accent and you basicly have to teach yourself the material. Lectures are quite boring!
Dr. B is really nice. He does get a bit confusing when he's teaching, so either go to his office or expect to teach yourself. Personally,I didnt think it was that hard of a class but you have to do the work. Not to mention that KSU's Chemistry just sucks.their grading system is crap! You basically have to be perfect to get an A.
He is a good teacher and tries his best to explain things when you don't understand, but his lectures are quite boring! You should just stay home and read the book. Only 4 tests and some graded assignments.
I was not expecting Chemistry to be very easy, but I was not expecting it to be very hard either. His tests are almost impossible to crack. The pre-test does not matter, it only tells you the topics that will appear on the test not it's depth. He is very helpful. His graded assignments are what saved me.
Thick Indian accent. The only reason he isn't a 5 on difficulty is because he posts a practice test on Web CT, and if you complete it, you will be pleasantly familiar with the exam. They're not the same questions; he changes the numbers or wording, mixes formulas, asks for a different variable, etc. Don't bother going to his office for extra help.
Great teacher because he will explain a million times until you understand. Keeps and honors his office hours. Not the easiest accent to understand but he is comprehensible. I am taking him now for Chem 1212 and I recommend him. Teaches at a reasonable pace. Also, gives a lot of opps to get other points besides the test grades. You will need them.
He is an extremely nice man but his class is not so great. He tries to explain and uses powerpoint but he gets confused sometimes and if you're anything like I am that will completely throw you off. My suggestions would be to go to class, STUDY, read the chapters as you go along, do the hw and practice quizzes, and start early and you'll be fine.
So nice!I was in his office almost everyday which is how i did well on the tests.he gave practice test that are like the test.if you understood the concepts you will do well on the test.he just turns the question around.he will not help you alot on the homework because its graded.he says that is not fair.he has an accent but you get use to it.
Great teacher. Accent isn't bad at all compared to some. His tests are very predictable, and he does not try to trick you. Not much text review was needed, but it doesn't hurt to brush up on some of the more difficult topics. 1212 is a pretty dense section of chemistry, so be prepared for it.
I love Baruah. He is a great professor. Go to his office if you need help and he will gladly help you until you understand. I took him for 1211 and 1212 and would recommend him. Note that 1212 is pretty difficult and you will have to work hard even with a good prof.
He is such a nice guy, but I just don;t think he is a very good teacher. It is often difficult to understand what he is saying, and when I have asked him questions, his answers were never clear. He kind of rambles. All the powerpoints are online. He drops your lowest test grade. Hard class!!!!
Very hard to understand. Doesn't review or go over anything in detail. Doesn't really answer questions completely. Run if you have this teacher.
Had for Chem 1211, he is difficult to understand, but you get used to it. He is very nice and open to help if you need it. Test's are difficult, but he offers practice tests which you should always do. If you know the general idea about every question on the practice test, you can handle the actual test.
This professor is a very nice guy, but not very good at teaching. He is what you call a text book teacher. He doesn't really explain the concepts very well. You can do well if you study very hard on your own and also review his practice test. He does better one on one when you go to his office for help.
Although he is a nice guy, his teaching is TERRIBLE. He doesn't take enough time to explain difficult concepts. He expects you to understand something after working one word problem. His tests make no sense! On our second exam, the average grade was a 53! It is impossible to make an A, no matter how smart you are.
He is really hard to pay attention to, so I wouldn't recommend taking his class early because you'll fall asleep. He is very willing to help you if you come by his office while he's there. He gives practice exams for every exam, but sometimes the material wasn't the same. You REALLY need to study and do all the assignments to make a good grade.
He is a nice guy and will help you if you aske for it, but he doesn't know how to teach. I had him for Bioinorganic chem. All he did was reading off of power points which were not clear at all, also, the textbook he recommended was useless, I think I only looked at it once. He is not promt at all with posting material online and checking emails.
Professor Baruah was very nice but extremely hard. I had him for Chem 1211 Lab and he was next to impossible to understand. When students ask questions he doesnt seem to know what theyre talking about. He nods his head and agrees with what you say but takes off points later. I do NOT recommend him
He is incredibly eager and willing to help you when you're heaving problems understanding the lab work, but he has a pretty heavy accent so he is hard to understand sometimes. This class should be an easy A. He drops the 3 lowest pre-lab quiz grades, and the 2 lowest lab grades. I absolutely hate chemistry, but he made it easy to comprehend.
He cannot teach. It's as simple as that. He knows what he is talkin about, which is abundantly clear. But he can't relay that information to his students in a useful form. The textbook is pointless. I opened it once. He is not clear on what he specifically wants. Presentations are a nightmare. Learn the best you can from the power points and google
He is terrible! Forget it if you don't study. I did all of the practice exams, went to every class, took every test and spent about 10 hours a week outside of class doing homework and reading the chapters. I went to his office for help and he was not helpful. I had 695/1000 in the end. Thats a 69.5 and he wouldn't give me a C. DO NOT TAKE HIM
He is a great prof. Don't let people turn you the other way just because he has an accent. He is very easy to understand, and most importantly he is excited to be there teaching unlike some other profs.
He is a chemist. He would rather be in the lab than in lecture hall. Asking him a question is pointless. He will simply not give a direct answer. His exams were ambiguous and filled with errors. Question had to be rewritten during the exams so they may be understood. You will find yourself ill-prepared for the ACS exam at semesters end. Enjoy!
his class does not have a lot of weight it is only test and hw and the hw is not that easy and neither are the test. studying is required to pass the test i studied and still struggled with test.
He was not a great professor. Hard to understand and very unhelpful when you go to see him during office hours. He does not have many extra points built into the course. Overall take him as a last resort.
Took Brixius for 1211 and got an A. Took this guy for 1212 and got my first C. He doesn't curve at all and doesn't prepare you for the final test. Changed major after this class, sick of all the science professors.
He is an o.k. teacher, however, his class is really really hard. I believe that he tries his best, but between his accent and his inability to dumb it down sometimes, you may find yourself lost only five minutes into lecture. The tests are extremely hard. The homework is full of trick questions. If I had the choice, I wouldn't retake him.
Tests are hard and the practice exams do not prepare you for the test. RUN!!
His accent isn't that bad, but there's no denying that the material is really difficult. He tries his best but it's personal study and lots of practice that can help you. My biggest issue was him not helping with homework since it's 'graded'. The practice exams are okay and if you can get old tests from past students that would be good.
His tests are not the easiest. But if you practice, pay attention in class & do the home work you will be just fine. Curves the finals a lot! Prepares you well for ACS. I got 100% on the finals. Ask questions if you do not understand though, this will help & he is very nice and approachable
The class is not easy but he makes it less hard. Gives extra credit so take advantage of it, ask questions, do good on the home work. If still not managing in class then go to his office & read book. Should be an easy A if you like chem
Guys if you are looking for a A take him. You need to put a little bit of effort it in too but he is just awesome guy. Excellent teaching and answers all your questions. Curves upto 35 points. I made an A in his class it was fun learning from him. I would take him again.
LOVED HIM. He has an accent but doesn't interfere. Great teacher- goes a little fast, but will answer all questions. Very willing to help. Short tests, so the questions are worth more, but provides lots of practice problems. Tests all multi choice. Posts lectures online. TAKE HIM!
Currently, I do no t have my final grade but nevertheless, I can accurately state that Baruah would be worth taking again. I have taken the class during the summer where things are accelerated and Baruah never lacked clarity or helpfulness. I highly recommend him as nothing could make him a better professor to take but time.
The class is hard. Dr. Baruah does his best, but the summer hours are awful. I would have liked a bit more time per section, but that's still June/July problems. The quizzes are easy, and you get three attempts. Those and the practice exams will seriously prepare you for the tests. Read your chapters. Do your work. The A is completely manageable.
He is a tough teacher but a fair and good teacher. He teaches the material the easiest he can, I took it over the summer and it was very fast but I still pulled a B. Also I hate chemistry so it can be done. Drops lowest test score, and gives you online quizzes (3 attempts per quiz) that count as a test grade so he give you the opportunities.
What an amazing teacher!!!!Very clear on what he will be testing over and is good at conveying the info. Tough class if you are not natural at science- but AWESOME professor! 4 Tests plus the final are your only grades. Will take questions throughout lecture and will help you before or after class
Dr. Baruah is an amazing professor! He explains everything very well, uses simple drawings on the board to help visualize vertain chemistry aspects. He provides a good amount of practice problems which are extremely beneficial and helpful. I would definitely take him again in my upper Chemistry courses given the opportunity.
Awesome teacher in explaining and teaching chemistry, Tests are hard. but if you know the material, attend lecture and do hw you'll be fine.
Bharat is a great instructor but he tends to overexplain easy concepts and skims over more difficult ones. He will thoroughly answer your questions. The class itself is structured poorly; expect to memorize a million things that follow no intuition. I felt that doing the practice tests didn't prepare me for the tests. +35pt curve on the ACS final.
Hands down one of my favorite professors out there. Not just for chemistry, just as a professor in general. Super clear, and will explain what needs to be explained even if it's a hundred times. Quizzes are fairly easy. The practice exams are pretty helpfu too, but don't depend on it. Just study the MAIN concepts and you will pass.
Dr. Baruah is a wonderful professor. He doesn't always make sense and gets confused when explaining examples but if you work at it and try then you will succeed. The course material is hard, but he helps out a lot!
He was all around a great professor. He is smart in what he does and explains things over and over so you can grasp the concepts. Tests are VERY hard. Our class average was failing for all 4 test. Never more than 20 questions so there was no wiggle room for error. drops the lowest. expect to spend 200+ hours on mastering chem.
The tests are extremely hard, the practice exams don't really help much. He knows what he's talking about, but does not do shortcuts for problems.
he is honestly not that hard, the subject is. make sure you pay attention, and do the hw(mastering chemistry) on time, tests can be a little tough. but keep asking for help, go to his office hours, do the hw before class, you should be fine.
Was very impressed that KSU has professors like Dr Baruah, smart and very clear in explaining all details. Every penny is worth paying to take his class. You can tell he has a passion and skill to teach. Chem1212 is hard, but you will not walk out of his class without knowledge. He is also responsive to students, always willing to listen and help.
He's not a bad professor, the material is just super hard. He is there to help and he answers questions. He gives you opportunities to gain extra points. Much harder than 1211
Great professor. No homework on mastering chemistry. Bonus points on learning catalytics. If you like chemistry you will love his class. If you hate the subject you can still pass with some work.
Dr. Baruah was a great professor. He explained the material well and had a good sense of humor. Yes, the tests were hard, but yes chem 2 is a hard class. He is willing to help if you ask, and all in all, he was a good professor.
Pop quizzes are extra credit. There is no homework except for d2l quizzes (which stay open for several days, and he gives us 3 attempts). If you don't want to read the textbook, then you gotta come to lecture. He posts the powerpoints, but it is very helpful to attend. If you bought Mastering Chemistry for chem 1211, that access code works.
Pretty much the epitome of the "average" professor. Tests are sometimes hard, but if you study, you will be fine. Nice guy, bit of a boring lecturer, and he doesn't give online homework. Again, very average professor, so I'd say he's a good choice.
I liked Baruah a lot. He was very helpful and all of his powerpoints were online. I never brought my text to class. We got extra points through learning catalytics, and he always let us know before class when we would have a quiz. If you had a question he would clearly explain it and not make you feel silly for asking. The final is the ACS final.
Dr. Baruah teaches an informative, fast paced class. He doesn't take attendance, but I strongly recommend attending. He's funny and is very receptive to answer questions. He works lots of practice problems on the board. Make sure to read the book and take notes BEFORE class, and everything will go smoothly.
Great teacher easy to understand and takes time to answer questions. Class is hard but if you take good notes and do practice tests before exams they are about the same. Graded by 4 tests (drops one) and 8 online quizes multiple attempts equals 1 test grade. also does some extra credit in class. make sure to write down examples he does on board.
Great teacher and answers all questions related to chem in class. Always open for office hours and reply's to email fast. 4 test and lowest gets dropped. NO MASTERING CHEM HWK but has D2L quizzes.
I took his class over an 8wk summer course so it moved really quickly. Honestly, the class wasn't hard it was just a lot to learn. I spent a lot of time outside of class studying with other classmates after I failed the seconds test. He drops lowest grade and has good bonus opps. ACS might kill you tho bc it doesn't replace test grades. DEF STUDY
Dr. B is great! He is probably the most helpful professor in and out of class I've had, and I've got over 150 hours in college. Study this stuff and definitely read the sections in the book. The best way to take inorganic chemistry is to buy the solutions manual and do the problems in the back of each chapter. Great professor! He cares!!!
Prelab lectures can be kind of long, but he makes sure you understand what you're doing before you begin. Very helpful when asked questions and gives good feedback for lab reports. He even offers to check your lab report before you submit it for feedback. Very kind and helpful overall.
worst class ive ever taken. he doesnt answer any questions about the concepts and youre completely on your own. the tests are nothing about the lectures and i didnt pass a single one. DO NOT TAKE. 80% of the class failed and he didnt do anything.
If you genuinely put in the effort you will pass. Chem 1212 was the hardest class Ive ever taken. He gives extra credit. I recommend going to his office hours if you need help. Also, he rounded me up from a 78 to a B. He's a nice guy. His tests are similar to the practice tests he provides! Don't listen to the horrible reviews, they obvi didn't try
I took this course as a 8 week online summer course. Dr. B posts all ppts & there are 10 HW quizzes on D2L & 4 tests. Also provides practice tests & an SI to help study which was so helpful! He also ended up curving our final grade by 30 points out of 1000 after the ACS final. If I took this for a reg. semester, I definitely could have got an A!
I think CHEM 1212 is going to be hard no matter who you take so I don't blame him too much. We took the ACS final and I don't know anyone who passed it. Unfortunately he did not curve it. He did curve our test grades, which were not super hard, just very challenging. Mastering chem is not required. He is an okay choice.
He gives practice exams that very identical to the actual exams. Chem 1212 has a lot of maths and solves problems during class. He lets his students have their own formula sheet and provide one in the online exams. He curves on almost every examPowerPoints are a lot, but overall he is a great professor.
I love Dr Baruah! He is a very nice and helpful guy!! I enjoyed his inorganic class. I hated the homework site though.
He is an amazing professor and really wants you to understand the material covered. He is not hard its the material that challenging, this class is heavy on math! He's very organized, has practice tests, home work quizzes (3 attempts highest one recorded), drops lowest test, and there's an SI in class! Take him if you get an opportunity, & STUDY!!
He is nice, and helpful if you sit down with him in his office. However, he is incredibly fast and the concepts are intense. He can't really cover the material well in a group setting. Homework was fine (unlimited chances), and the tests didn't feel like the practice tests. I studies hard and could pass the study guide, but not the tests.
fav professor I've had at KSU. I get so discouraged with math and chem and failed the first test, but he inspired me to work even harder. I was so determined, went to all of his office hours, and actually got an A and B on the next tests! His passion for chemistry has rubbed off on me. if u ask for help he will not rest until you understand
Dr. Baruah wants you to understand concepts and digest them without just throwing them at you. He addresses questions clearly and his lectures are very helpful. Practice exams are similar to the actual ones (drops the lowest). There is quite a bit of online homework, but luckily you have unlimited attempts. Also, this course is indeed math-heavy!
If you are like me and hate chemistry, take this professor! Dr. Baruah is fantastic teacher. This class is known for how difficult it can be, but he will answer as many questions you throw his way until you fully understand the material. There is a lot of homework but it can really boost your grade just by doing it. TAKE HIM!!
I had him for 9am, and he records/streams his lectures, so I only showed up for exam days (BUT i took ap chem in HS so this class was just review). LOTS of homework but essentially unlimited attempts, so its a relatively easy A. Exams are curved (20 out of 22 questions count). Random bonus quizzes but not a lot of points. 1 exam dropped. STUDY!
He's a nice guy n really wants his students to learn. He's always open to questions, but the course isn't easy. Lots of online homework that did not really help prepare for the tests, but we had unlimited attempts. Tests are in class n similar to the practice tests n the lowest grade is dropped. Dissapointed he didn't curve ACS final exam grade.
I took him last semester. He is a gem. He will help you understand the material to the bones. Besides his office hours, you can almost go see him as he is always on campus. Tests are almost identical to the practice exams. Do them at least twice then you are good. always post his live recording lectures after class. TAKE HIM!
He knows what he is teaching and makes sure that everyone understands before moving on. He provides practice tests before each exam which has helped a lot. HW is just smartwork but it's not too bad. He does lectures with PowerPoints but he makes the content understandable. I would definitely recommend him to anyone!
He's a very good professor, he covers the material and goes over practice problems during the lectures. He will answer any question that you throw at him and he wants to make sure you understand the material. Chemistry 2 is a tough course but he makes it a little easier from his lectures. Lots of homework and some extra credit opportunities.
Dr. Baruah cares about his students a lot but YOU have to show the effort. Emailing him and showing up to office hours saved my grade. His exams are very difficult and Smartworks did not help, the best examples of ?s are from lectures. GO TO CLASS! He will help if he sees you coming to class and participating. Sometimes goes fast over topics
One of the best professors I've had. The content is extremely hard but he makes it better to understand. I took this as a 8 week summer course, so I feel that if you took him in fall or spring, the class would be much better and not rushed. 9/10 would take again.
I loved Dr. Baruah. You can tell he really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He drops an exam, had extra credit, curves, and had even moved back homework if the class voice their stress. He made learning the material easy, you just need to study outside of class to prepare for the exams.
Dr. Baruah will make sure you understand his material if you ask him. He is easily accessible outside class as well through his office hours. He curves tests and offers bonus quizzes to help your grade. If you are unsure about how to do a homework problem, he will give you the info to get the right answer yourself. Overall, a great professor.
He knows what he's talking about and records his lectures. He also had bonus quizzes that weren't too difficult and uses Smartwork but also gives his own version of practice exams which those are more reliable. I highly recommend studying the practice exams. This course has a lot of formulas to memorize.
Curves every exam plus overall curve added to grade, studied just the practice exam and got an A on every exam! Take him and DO THE PRACTICE EXAM he copies it for the actual exam
i threw beans at him every day for a whole semester and he never noticed
Definitely one of my more stressful classes. Don't get me wrong Dr. Baruah is such a sweet guy but this course almost made chem 1211 feel like pre-k. Yes, the course in itself is challenging, but when 40 out 62 people are failing the test a week before the final...i'm not too sure that's on us. He does give you bonus points which do somewhat help.
He explains concepts well and is considerate with due dates, but his tests are extremely tough—over half the class often fails. Practice tests don't always align with the real ones. He moved our final up last minute due to HIS error, cutting study time. Not impossible to pass, but very difficult. Take him only if no better options are available.
read other reviews and agree that he does curve exams plus the overall grade but his averages are always so low. most of the class fails his tests. ppl may say studying helps but i would study for hours and days before his tests and somehow the highest grade i got was a B. he's nice and funny but he teaches everything instead of what's important
He is a kind person. Chemistry, in itself, is a tough subject. However... Exams were incredibly difficult, not enough practice material. You cannot take your exam home to review. Online HW does NOT match exam. If you are a point away from passing the class, he will NOT pass you. The grading system was confusing. Choose someone else if possible.
I have been a 4.0 student with 5 semesters at KSU, its my first grade thats not an A (78.5). This class sucks!! Super hard if you are not a math person. I would highly advice you dont take chem 1212 unless you have to. Exam averages were 50s to 60s every time. He also got our final exam day wrong and moved it 2 days earlier with 1 week's notice! :(
His exams are quite literally the practice exams he gives you, just study those over and over and you will do great. It's a tough subject but he is kind and attentive to his students needs. Study hard and I promise you will get the grade you want! Homework doesn't line up with exams or material in class, so don't worry about trying to understand it
He is a great professor and really wants students to succeed. Practice tests are very similar to the tests, but homework is not very helpful. Do the bonus quizzes. Records lectures to review later on. This class is difficult, but he makes it bearable. My only qualm is the test being "closed" so you can only view them during meetings/office hours.
He's okay as a professor. In my class 2/3 of people fail all the tests. He does give practice tests which are the most helpful thing. The homework is basically irrelevant to the tests and classwork, I wouldn't waste too much time on that. You have to go to office hours to see your tests which is inconvenient. He wasn't that friendly in my opinion
