Hell on earth
i thought that mcb 150 was the worst class at uiuc. then i took mcb 244 with dr. a. lectures are impossible to keep up with and she doesn't take questions, get ready to teach yourself. the first study guide she gave us was 19 pages long of tiny text. we're on week 10 and she has not posted a single grade. this class is making me rethink my career.
Rambles through 80-slide lectures, skipping where she see's fit even though you'll later find that the information from the skipped slides are on the exam. Doesn't provide any real direction on assignments and never puts in grades, so good luck knowing if you did the assignment right. Overall, a great teacher who brightens up my day #freeDB
MCB major: this may be the worst class I have ever taken. Skims through slides to get through more material than she has time for, ignores questions, assignments are to write summaries of the lecture slides-no further instruction. I hate this class and I wish I had dropped it because I am trying to learn so much that I have learned nothing at all.
By far the worst class I have taken during my time at UIUC. Super disorganized because she was hired after our original professor was fired by the university (even though he was great). Reads directly off the lecture slides (which are usually 70+ slides long) so I find no point in going to lecture anymore. Also never answers emails outside of class
244 is a dense class of information. Its purpose is to be a bottleneck for Pre-med students. Thus, the best professor is one who keeps things simple and outlines clearly what is going to be tested. This professor does not; instead, they give you around 200+ slides of information and tests built on small factoids that do not test for understanding.
A ridiculous amount of content for an Anatomy course with poor teaching skills. Do not recommend taking this class at all.
After the 1st professor was fired, Bharathi completely changed the main purpose of his assignment notes making them mainly busy work & useless. The exams she created would have questions from the smallest things in her 80 slide lectures (which she isn't able to finish in class). When I had a family emergency she didn't even answer my email #FREEDB
To think Brad was a terrible professor is nuts in comparison, Bharathi has managed to be much worse, tenfold. She never answers emails, no matter their importance, has the worst slide shows imaginable, rambles on for an hour and a half during lecture, all while teaching nothing. Name of the game: Whoever makes the best cheat sheet wins #FreeDB.
Worst professor UIUC has ever hired. I never go to class because I learn absolutely nothing, she makes the class unbearable. Lectures are extremely long with tons of wording to the point where she cant get through them. Exams do not test your understanding at all and ask about the most random information, the university should change professors
This is for sure worst professor I have ever had. She clearly doesn't have a single passion for teaching, i suggest she stick to research and stay out of classrooms. I cannot emphasize enough how poor of a decision it was for UIUC to hire her and its huge disrespect on it's students. Shame on Aravamudan, shame on UIUC.
This is the worst professor I've had at UIUC by far. After Dr. Blank was fired after being hired 2 weeks before classes started and lied to about his position requirements, Dr. A took over. She is much worse than Dr. Blank was. 80 slide lectures, pointless homework assignments, and oddly specific exam questions. Haven't learned anything.
BRING BACK BLANK
If I could give her a 0/5 I would do so HAPPILY. Just a horrible professor in general and I wish Blank was still teaching this course.
Dr. Bharathi's lectures are overwhelming and ineffective. Slides are crammed with details, she skips content, and lectures feel rushed and unintelligible. Grading is slow, and emails go unanswered. This disorganization and lack of support are unacceptable for a top STEM university. The MCB department must do better.
Dr. B has made taking anatomy an extremely rough experience because I am doing more busy work than I am learning any information. I am constantly rewriting densely packed lecture slides instead of learning the information. The MCB department needs to hire a new professor for MCB246 so we do not have to suffer through another semester of this.
Dr. B did not teach any concepts and instead just firehosed us with as much information as humanly possible. We had 5 exams in MCB 244, and each one covered legitimately 400+ slides of content, most of which was the most insignificant thing on the slide mentioned in passing once. I can honestly say as a senior this is the worst course I have taken
Dr. B isn't qualified to teach this course. She reads off the slides and reiterates what's exactly in the textbook. This is probably the reason why many students don't show up to class. And, they haven't even put in any of the graded assignments yet, so no student knows their current grade in the class. MCB needs to find a new instructor.
Gets mad about students emailing her as if helping her students is not part of her job…
Lectures are pointless, so prepare to teach yourself. If you learn independently this class will go well for you as the assignments don't provide a lot of interaction with the material. A ton of straight up memorization, but that was expected. Lecture slides copied the textbook, formatted with blocks of text with around 60 slides per lecture.
This is the worst professor I have had here at UIUC. The lectures contain so much information it is impossible to recall or understand any of it. Taking very few science based classes before and not being an MCB major, this class is extremely hard, and the professor does not account for these types of students.
Please fire this woman. Final exam was a bunch of information never discussed in any lecture slides, even a cheat sheet with all lecture info couldn't help. Never answers emails, gets mad students email her. Ridiculous amounts of information on lecture slides for none of it to be on the exam. Shame on UIUC and the MCB department for this decision
Thought I'd drop a review for Dr. B since she finally got a ratemyprofessor page. I took microbiology with her last semester and it was horrible. Everything that everyone else is saying about MCB-244 worked the exact same in MCB-300. It's a miracle she wasn't fired after that class experience. Shame on the MCB department for letting her teach.
You needed to write down EVERYTHING from the 300 slides on your cheat sheet. Textbook pages are copy/pasted on the slides. Exam questions were taken from the textbook chapter HW quizzes that she didn't assign, so the questions focused on the tiniest details inside a big paragraph. Dr. B didnt put any effort to teach this class so I learned nothing.
Dr. B made my semester a nightmare. 300+ slides per exam, loaded with information directly from the book. Too much detail on every concept, and overall too much information to know. I would study 15+ hours per exam and still only get a low A/high B. She also made us write 4 page papers nearly every week, which was useless. I dread A+P II with her.
Attending lectures felt like a waste of time since the professor simply read directly from the slides. The assignments were poorly spaced out, leaving little time to properly study. Exams were overwhelming, covering material from three lectures and requiring students to go through 200-300 slides for a single test.
bad af why she here, should not be a prof
Doesn't make any effort to make the content comprehensible. Speeds through slides because she crams so much information into 80 slides per class which she is never able to finish. Expects you to then be able to take notes on the slides, what shes speaking about, and info in the textbook. Make a good cheat sheet for tests.
We need a new professor as soon as possible. Not to mention this is the most important class of undergrad for many of the students taking it. It's not her fault but she is hard to understand, she goes through 80 slides per lecture when the slideshows were 30 last year. I am going to suffer in grad school because the school of mcb chose this prof.
Without a doubt, the worst professor I've ever had throughout all my schooling. Rushes through 80-slide lectures and still barely gets halfway though the unit. Then when it comes time for the exam just tells us to watch the rest of the recorded lectures...?? Plan better, remove content from the exam, or push back exam, but no--she's just l-a-z-y.
Worst professor I've ever had. She rushed through every lecture and still couldn't teach an entire unit so instead of pushing the exam back she assigned a recording of it just a few days before the exam. The worst academic experience I've ever had and shame on UIUC for allowing this to happen.
Cannot believe a school as highly ranked as UIUC allows a professor like this. With the importance of this course for many pre-health students it is absolutely ridiculous how difficult she makes it. we have had 3 days of lecture and I have 47 pages of notes. Not helpful and does not care if her students succeed or not. Wondering why its not Blank.
The most unorganized and stressful class I have ever taken. I do not know what is going on in the class and neither does the professor. Instructions unclear...
Warning: This course demands a significant time commitment due to poor organization, lack of consideration for student well-being, and exceptionally challenging exam content. There is no observed grading curve or compensation, and in-class pop quizzes frequently include material not covered in lectures or the textbook. Do not take with Orgo
I actually want to cry everyday bc of this class. She never responds to emails, does not care, has a THICK accent that makes the content even harder to digest. NEVER been in a class as disorganized as this. Lectures slides are just 50 bullet pts, I NEVER learn. Always leave more tired, head boggled, want to drop out. Cant do this UIUC DO SMTH.
As a senior taking this course, I wish I didn't. This woman has caused so much damage to my mental and physical health. I HIGHLY recommend taking this course elsewhere, BESIDES UIUC. Shame on the MCB department; countless emails and complaints, yet nothing has been changed.
Honestly, she is one of the WORST professors, I haven't learned anything from her class as of now, she doesn't make it fun to learn but instead makes it dreadful, Exams are tough no matter how long you study, This class is taking a big toll on my health and mentally draining me causing so much stress in my life.
Dr. B is trying her best, but the lectures that she prepares have too much information. It is impossible to know everything that is going to be on the exams because of how quickly she covers the material. Lecture slides are read verbatim, and her thick accent makes already hard to understand medical jargon even harder to remember.
Sitting in lecture right now holding back tears. If you don't have to take this class, avoid it at all costs. UIUC do better.
I am taking this class right now, it's hard to pay attention to the lecture heavy content where it's just pulled directly from the textbook. this class is so boring and you can't retain any information, so I just block blast for the whole 1 hr and 20 min class.
Worst teacher ever, needs to leave
I'm a senior & this is the most god awful class I've ever taken. I also took 244 when we had Dr. Blank who was also a complete mess. The MCB department needs to do better in the hiring process & organization of this course so future students don't have to suffer through another disorganized, confusing, & pointless semester of this class with Dr. A.
If the school of MCB sticks with this Professor, do not take it. We are wholly unprepared for exams and there is so much content that we can barely finish with a 1.3 hour time limit. I'm not getting the education that I'm paying for.
SHE IS THE WORST! She assigned us 15 extra questions(25 extra points) and took away ten minutes of exam time. Not to mention this was the worst exam yet and over half the class stayed until the very end(300 students). Everyone in this is pre-health and needs it for their career. She does not care about her students at all and sets you up to fail.
The absolute worst professor at UIUC. Exams are insanely hard and content heavy and tested on the smallest things that don't matter. avoid this class here if you can
i just go to lecture to do homework at this point, no point in trying to learn from her. need her fired asap so we get a good curve on the exams.
I want to rip my ears off after listening to this class for an hour
The teaching of this course's materials is very ineffective. Not only am I trying to teach myself, but also struggle because of the massive amount of material. This semester she removed ten minutes of exam time and added fifteen questions. Last exam, nobody I knew finished on time or did not feel rushed. Not good for such an important class.
I don't know when 65 questions on an hour and 20 minute exam became a thing but this class is making me want to fake an ADHD diagnosis so I can get extra time. By the second page of the exam, I am contemplating my existence trying to scavenge for the answer in my brain (or size 5 font cheat sheet) amidst 300 lecture slides and readings.
Horrible and worst professor at UIUC. Her lectures do not help, and her exams are very tough (even with the cheat sheet). She is not helpful, did not see a single person leave the exam during the hour and 20 minutes. For a class that many pre health majors need, she needs to be fired.
Life is worth living again ever since I dropped this course. I am not about to get anything less than an A in a prerequisite course I need for PA school. I want to be actually learning the information instead of being tortured by a professor who has no lecturing skills or compassion whatsoever. Gonna take this when they hire a dif prof or thru a CC
Absolutely insane decision to have this professor teach one of the most important pre-reqs for PA and med school. Impossible to get an A this semester with her new exam style, everyone I know is struggling. PLEASE FIRE HER
I'm disappointed that this core pre-health prerequisite is so poorly taught. It's impossible to memorize hundreds of slides per unit, so students use 5 pt. cheat sheets. The readings and discussions are pointless busy work. I was so eager to learn about anatomy, but this class has honestly diminished my interest and excitement in the subject.
This professor is by far the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life. Her lectures are boring and long and basically impossible to learn anything from, her exams are too long, and the class is overall a terrible experience.
I never contemplated my future more in a class before.
Honestly impressive to have this bad of a rating. Keep it up.
You can get through it; she's a very sweet lady and very helpful
The lecture slides are very ineffective and it's hard to organize what I'm even learning. There's also just too much content on every slide and barely enough time to finish exams. I'm only learning and learning effectively in lab. You know this class is poorly structured when students only rely on cramming everything into a tiny cheat sheet.
Mentioned that students cheated on last exam, but keeps their scores in the gradebook. so basically if you find a way to cheat you will pass with no problem
This professor is a disappointment to the MCB department. The slides are very disorganized and difficult to follow. Way too much content & professor spends way too much time trying to condense material but not enough time explaining it & ensuring students gain an understanding. Makes anatomy & physiology an unbearable and unmotivating subject.
Dr. B is honestly the worst professor I've had. Her lectures have so much irrelevant content + the testing expectations are unclear. The exams consist of 65 heavy questions that are hard to understand + do not relate to what we are learning. It is not acceptable to make students memorize 300 dense slides for each exam. I haven't learned anything.
Bhavrati's a 5-star genius! Lectures are a wild maze of dense slides—treasure hunts for the brave. You'll never have to worry about running out of study material; there's always more to memorize! Exams? A thrilling 65-question sprint in an hour testing your speed and ability to think under pressure. She's unhelpful in the best way!
She is a terrible professor and her teaching strategies are horrible. The exams are so complex and are supposed to cover "lecture material" but don't. You primarily teach yourself, as she only reads straight off the slides but exams are way more in-depth regarding the material covered. I highly recommend never taking this class if you don't have to
yup she is the worst prof i have ever had
The absolute worst please do not take this class
she hates her students. quite unbearable lectures
Awful class. No communication, no support, and emails go unanswered. You're completely on your own, and attempts to reach out are ignored. If you're struggling, go directly to higher administration—change won't happen otherwise. Avoid if possible.
incorrectly graded my exam, not by a little amount but by a lot? also doesnt have TAs info on canvas? where do they find these anatomy professors?
SURVIVING BHARATHI!!!!!!
Unironically the most stressful class I've had so far and this is after MCB150, CHEM332, CHEM 224, and MCB244. Terrifying class to be a part of and you need to just memorize everything and then some so you can keep up to the pace of the exam and have the time to work through insanely complicated multiple choice questions. Quizlet, Anki, use them.
Non existent grading scale, why are iClickers worth as much as exams??? Avoid at all costs, also never responds to emails.
I don't need to go into detail about what is wrong with this course. My peers have done so below. Ultimately, though, this course is a joke, and so is the department for allowing the failure of proper education to occur throughout this semester. They have failed us as educators. Absolutely shameful. #powerpointparrot #uninspiredandoverpaid #shame
I was genuinely so excited to take this class and learn about a topic I have always found interesting instead I found myself basically teaching the whole course to myself. Concerns don't get addressed. Exams are way more complicated than material covered in class. If I didn't need this class for my future I would have dropped.
The university is hurting their students by not finding a better teacher. It's almost as if teacher reviews and ices ratings don't matter because if they did this teacher would've been fired after day. Ridiculous that a top tier university like Illinois can't find the right teacher for this class. FIO.
I will say that Dr. Aravamudan is knowledgeable about anat/physiology. However, there is way too much content per exam. I had upwards of 1000 Anki cards per a single exam (6 lectures) because so much information was presented. Lecture slides were copied almost by the word from the textbook, leading to an overload of information.
These other reviews pretty much show how the majority of her students are feeling. At this point, I blame the MCB department at UIUC for letting this happen to the students. This class ruined every positive thought I had about the MCB department and A&P 1 & 2. Such a shame as this class is so important for the future of A LOT of students.
A reiteration of MCB244...no curve/scale adjustment, no extra credit, all memorization and no learning. Exams are the basis of your grade, yet questions are incomprehensible/uncovered, insignificant material to the unit and nobody leaves early. Can't even make it through one or even two class periods without finishing ONE slide deck. Insane.
I ended with an 89.5. I had a surgery that forced one of my exams to get prorated and that ended up worsening my exam scores and gave me this grade there's nothing I could do about it. Not even going to get into how bad she is a professor because I think everyone else sums it up, worst professor ever and thank god she's getting fired. Hope theworst
Truly one of the better professors in this major. Just go to lecture and put an average amount of study time in, and you will be good.
in this class rn and Im so excited for Exam 1!!
First exam was fraudulent. We barely learned anything before the first test and the test was cherry picked bullet points from her slide. It is less about her teaching but more can you remember random bits of information. No deeper thinking or cohesiveness, just all random facts and random bits of information.
The exam questions are ridiculously tricky
I'm only surviving this class because I took anatomy in high school. Lectures consist of her reading directly from slides, then diving into random bits of information that don't matter. She's passive-aggressive and clearly does not consider feedback from students. Scared for the second exam.
Worst professor ever, treats responding to emails as a chore. 200+ lecture slides to review for exams that are worth 50% of your overall grade, no curving or extra credit. Her 'study guides' are so general. No cohesiveness, straight reading from slides. Doesn't care about students or the workload she's giving. Extremely unrealistic expectations.
Do not recommend
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. Exams are based on lecture slides that are packed with an overwhelming amount of information with no attempt to make it more understandable. Discussion boards and assignments are tedious and are just busy work that don't help with comprehension. Very poor at explaining concepts
Holy awful. Dr. B is the worst professor I've had at UIUC. Her slides are copy-pasted from the textbook, wordy, and hard to understand AND her lecture style is boring. Her exams are comprised of questions that were mentioned briefly in 1/150 slides from the unit on one bullet point. My rec is rewrite the notes and pray something sticks. Good luck.
Simply, her style of teaching does not work for me or many of my friends. She rants about topics instead of actually teaching, gets easily offended when people talk inside foellinger, speaks in a very monotone voice, and does Iclickers at the last minute of class. I do not reccomend.
Having professors like this on campus fully demonstrates UIUC's disregard for its students. Poor lecture quality and an overwhelming amount of material to cover make for a truly awful experience.
This course is not required as a pre-med but it is the only course that has made me rethink about applying to medical school.
I don't mind most of my classes having horrendous lecturers, sort of used to teaching my-self. However, it is a problem to me when so much information is crammed into a single unit that the own professor has to cover over 2 hours worth of mandatory testable material outside of lecture in order to meet the exam deadline.
i have dropped ou of school after taking her.
The professor provides zero value to the class as lectures are unengaging and a regurgitation of the textbook. The amount of volume you are expected to know for exams is simply unrealistic. Questions can test you on material present in one sentence of the textbook in a five chapter unit and exams are worth 50% of your grade w zero drops
reads directly from the slides, bad at explaining, exams ask unfair questions about things mentioned once in lecture briefly.
genuinely the most boring class i have ever taken here. its so unfortunate because i really do love anatomy and she has made it difficult to enjoy it. lecture slides are so heavy with information giving you little to no time to write any notes down. it rally is just a bad experience. i hope and pray you don't get her, save your sanity.
test questions are so random compared to everything we learn, lectures are hard to pay attention to
All she cares is only her flashy fit every lecture not students.
If you're not religious, pick a religion and start praying.
I know she is doing her best, but to be honest, the school pranks that sometimes happen in this lecture is much interesting than her lecture. This might be a motivation for me to go to the classroom.
It's copy and paste from the book. Her 50+ slides per lecture have like an essay of information on each slide. She doesn't explain either. She literally reads straight from the slides. It's obvious she couldn't care less about us. New professor yay
Every day I wish I got hit by a bus on the way to class so I don't have to attend. Study guides made by her don't even cover the exam at all. There's no real point in attending the lecture besides earning attendance points. Her slides contain more words than your English final paper.
I knew the class was bad, but when a temporary prof came in for a week and was so confused by the slides provided that he made multiple comments and jokes about them being convoluted and confusing that he spent his own time making his own slides for the next class and people actually paid attention. I wished the temporary prof was the actual prof.
She really does not know how to lecture and the slides are the most awful thing I have ever seen. Like 80 slides in some lectures is CRAZY.
Terrible teacher. Lectures are 80 slides and she will skip half of them. Assignments are busy work and don't prepare you for exams and the exams will only ask hyper specific questions form one passage in the textbook or something like that. She doesn't respond to emails and is condescending to students. Only went to lecture for attendance points.
Her lectures consist of her reading off the slides, which are difficult to read and understand since they are disorganized and full of content. One exam covered content from over 400 slides, and the "study guides" are useless in indicating what you actually need to know. Questions in exams also feel so random in terms of importance.
War is over
Lectures are a waste of time; I always did assignments during them. She is not good at teaching, but is approachable and kind. The study guides she gives are worthless. Honesty just study everything from her lecture slides and you will be fine.
She inspired me to pick up a religion because I would pray that God would strike me down due to her being such a horrendous professor.
General exam questions are nonsensical and there's no clarity on what should be a "big takeaway" from the class. Lectures are rushed and are regurgitations of the textbook with no engagement with the student audience. Even though I won't be taking 246 next semester, I'm relieved that someone else is taking over.
Have you ever wanted to meet Helen Keller? If so, take this class and meet her for yourself. You will not be heard, seen, nor will she communicate with you. Doesn't not answer questions AT ALL, and when she does it's with condescending tone annoyance. Just reads off of the posted slides, only attended lecture for iClicker points.
class avg was a 70..
what the hell was that. her lectures and exams made no sense and rarely aligned, if you're taking it along with the lab the two of them rarely lined up so you often learn everything in lab first anyway. her outfits were gas though i can't lie, that and the random pranks are THE reasons I came to class.
Nice lady overall. Do the hws/quizzes and don't lose points in attendance. Also just put the study guide into quizlet with information from the slides and spam that quizlet for like 2 days you will get at least an 80 on the tests. People saying its hell are dramatic; its anatomy so a lot of memorization. Make ur peace with that and move on.
Her lectures were incredibly bland, painful to sit through, and didn't enhance my learning of the material. She put no effort into creating connections to help make the material more understandable and engaging. I learned more from the two lectures given by the substitute lecturer than I did from Dr. B throughout the semester.
