interesting teacher at first, but tests are way too hard-which made me hate the

Everyone tells you to take it DON'T boring and hard!

Great guy...Know the book; not many class notes
not as funny as he thinks. does NOT teach. anal about tardiness & absences.
This man does NOT teach you anything that he tests you on. Big pain!
A great educator, very knowledgeable

Best gen ed class I ever had at JMU. Early human development. I was in a class of about 150 students back in 1990 and Bijian knew everyone by name by the second week of class. Awesome prof.
Great professor with lots of personality. Class is hard... must read book and attend class in order to do well. He makes it interesting. I highly recommend him. Tries to form relationships with each student... which is rare yet refreshing in college.
Great guy, love him to death but his tests are SOOO hard. Must attend class.
Awesome guy, wants you to learn and tries to bond w/ everyone. Tests are HARD, straight from the book, no point in attending class but you have to b/c of attendence policy.

Nice guy, really hard tests, you learn alot. bottom line if you want a easy grade don't take him. if you want to learn hes the guy for you
Uncle Bijan is an amazing teacher. His human intimacy class is one everyone should take. However, his tests are super hard so I would recommend taking it pass/fail.
He is very boring in class, reads out of the book. No point in going except that he takes attendance everyday! Tests are very hard! Dont take unless you have to.
Lectures are so interesting, but tests are hard. Great professor; very knowledgable and respectable.
WONDERFUL MAN!!! SO passionate about teaching! Has made me want to be the best teacher ever! You learn a lot, but the tests are pretty difficult. If you keep up with the reading and study, you'll be fine.
Extremely bad class notes, tests are very poorly worded and make no sense, worst mistake of my college career to take this class, don't even think about taking it unless you can take it pass/fail
There aren't enough words to describe what a wonder person & great educator Uncle Bijan has been for so many years. I took his class during a really low point im my life & he gave me so many new perspectives & resources that helped me succeed in life.
A great teacher, very smart and good teaching techniques. Tests are very hard, make sure you read every single detail on the book.
Uncle Bijan is very passionate about his job. I enjoyed having him as a professor, however class is fairly boring. He tells good stories, and can be real funny. i recomend the class. tests are hard. study the book.
horrible i reccomend him to no one. all he does is tell his own little stories and you learn nothing. there are only 3 tests and they are on about 6 chapters each and they are hard.
He is really funny and very sweet, but not the best teacher. He has a big heart for his students. Take good notes in class and read the book. His tests are hard.
Nicest guy ever. Clear, very knowledgable and experienced. 150 question tests sucks and the poor grammar (he's foreign) in the tests make it difficult sometimes. Read the book and study notes every time you take a ****
Great man, MOST passionate professor, yet kind of boring.. ROUGH tests... STUDY THE BOOK and take notes.. if he says "take a note on this", do it!! I look forward to going to this class... brightens my day
Awesome professor, very passionate about life and the class. Has many good stories. Tests are middle difficulty, take some notes and read the textbook. Definetly worth taking!
i hate him so much and tests are extreamly difficult .don't dare to take the class
Uncle Bijan is a passionate man and very interesting. However, he had us write our "life stories" (mine was about 25 pages) and shared personal things and never got any feedback. :(
I hate psyc, so maybe that makes this worse. He's a great man, really cares about students, but the tests are extremely difficult. Take lots and lots of notes and study study study and hopefully you'll do better than me!
EVIL!!!
hes a sweet man, but tests are HARD!! READ the book if you expect to do well in this class and DONT miss class. hes a funny guy and makes class interesting but NOT an easy class. Locks doors 3 mins after class starts and wont let you in. seek other profs
I love this class -- it makes my day, even if it is 2 1/2 hours long! Bijan is a wonderful professor, and very funny; the class is certainly never dull! However, the tests are very difficult -- take this class for your own personal growth, not your gpa.
I wouldnt wish this class upon my worst enemy. Prof plays favoites like back in high school and only pay attentions to those few select people. I hated his class more that any class I have ever taken and his tests are super hard. Get out while you can.
Little Iranian man who can't speak the best English but is really funny and made me want to be a marriage counselor. Tests are impossible though, but he does curve them. NO ONE gets an A in the class, but I did learn a lot.
DO NOT take this class unless you enjoy lots of studying for such a pointless topic. ONLY take this class if you must..He's nice, but not helpful and his exams are unfair and most questions are not from lecture or book. Who knows where he gets them from
Hard tests, very good professor. One that you will remember the rest of your life- never a dull moment in class. Taking notes is pointless, tests come straight from the book. Online tutorials good, find them at: www.mhhe.com/santrockld1.
He's a good guy, or at least tries to be. Always has interesting stories and examples but if you really listen to what he's saying, putting aside his stories and funniness, he's not really saying anything that makes sense. Tests are hard, read the book.
It's easy to get confused when he's talking, but he really tries to keep everyone interested. Go to class and read the book because tests are from both and aren't exactly easy. Take this for your personal growth and not as a GPA booster.
Horrid and impossible tests, english is bad, biased towards minorities and Iranians, not approachable outside of class, AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
I love Uncle Bijan, although the class was hard, very fun old man. Highly recomend.
i just failed the test. very very difficult tests. he has pride of himself. nice and knowledgable teacher but, tests are extreamely difficult unless you have any idea of psychology background.
very hard class. accent is a little tricky but he really likes to teach. no graded homework and 3 exams and they are rough! be ready.
Great professor! Totally willing to go out of his way to help you out if needed. VERY hard tests!!! Take notes, go to class, and make sure you read, and you will do fine:)
This is one of those classes you learn sooo much in, but might not get an A . He curves. Really cares, knows a LOT. His accent is tricky, but he has so many stories about other cultures and his field work, it is worth dealing with.
He is a great guy but this class is not. He teaches how intellect isn't determined by just tests grades, yet his only grades for the class are 3 tests. It's very unfair and makes the class very stressful!
Psych of Human Intimacy was one of my favorite classes that I took in 4 years at JMU. I would recommend it to anybody. "Uncle" Bijan is one of the nicest and most memorable professors I have ever had. I don't know who could have written negative
He's a great guy, but not a good teacher. Really good personality.. but VERY UNCLEAR. His tests make up your grade. However, even if you prepare for it really well you're doomed. The questions he writes don't make sense, even if you know the material.
Not an easy class, but an enjoyable one. Bijan is very accomodating & extremely passionate about teaching. Grade is just based on attendence and two exams, both very difficult. However, I would recommend it to all. Possibly consider taking it Pass/Fail.
I had "uncle" Bijan and he was great. He kept my attention and I think he taught the material in an interesting way. He was very nice and I understood the stuff he taught. BTW - I'm Asian, so I don't see the favoritism the others mentioned and I didn't have difficulty in understanding his accent.
amazing class for any just about anyone, but unless you're a pyschology major, take as a pass/fail for your GPA's sake
Very interesting class and very funny guy! he's strict, and you have to study hard, but its really really worth it. Uncle Bijan is the man! He's really passionate about teaching, and LOVES interaction with the class...really cares about you're input. TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU GET THE CHANCE!
FUN CLASS, hes a funny man. read the book though because his test questions are based on that, and youll be fine.
'Uncle' bijan is awesome, hes sooo funny and will keep ya interested if you pay attention in class and read over the book it should be enough to get at least a b in the class. he loves his students and will help if he can, hes good just to talk to as well
Uncle Bijan is the man! no work, only 3 exams including the final, i dont know what everyone is talking about, im getting an A and i just cramed b4 every test-study the book! i never missed a class b/c it was my FAVORITE. he makes lectures interesting and hes funny as hell. TAKE THIS CLASS :)
Overall nice guy who LOVES teaching. Has his favorites - usually the outspoken people. Is unclear sometimes with word choice or when saying a definition. i bombed my 1st test, but pulled my grade up to a B w/ the other 2. He curves. Semi-difficult but he makes it interesting and you will learn alot.

Great Class. I learned a lot. Do not take as an "easy" elective. Tests are hard, STUDY THE BOOK!!!!!
I don't know why so many people complain about this class! Read the book, that's what you're supposed to do in college! He's a phenomenal teacher, you will learn so much and he is such a wonderful person. Don't miss class and cram the book as much as you can and you'll be fine with tests!
the class is difficult but you learn SOOO and get so much out of the class. i learned more about life and relationships then i could ever imagine. he is an adorable old man who is extremely passionate and makes everyone feel as if they are an important part of the class. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Great professor, plenty of counseling experience in this field that he shares with the class. Takes a personal interest in his students. Tests aren't that difficult if you study your notes and have at least a general understanding of the textbook readings. Commands your respect. Uncle Bijan's great!
Very good professor. Takes a genuine interest in students. Strict attendance policy, read your book, but you'll enjoy the class.
Some parts of the test are tricky but overall not a bad class. Really funny guy! Everyone should take it at some point!
This guy has a list of the 20,000 students he taught, meanwhile he didn't teach me anything. He's friendly but not a big help. That's great that he taught so many students but that doesn't make you a good teacher. His tests are worded funny sometimes b/c he doesn't even speak very good english.
Uncle Bijan is an awesome guy. Lectures are never boring, and the tests are strickly from the book and the online quizzes that you can find on the disk. Read, do the quizzes on the cd and you'll do fine. Plus he curves and there is no final. Only three tests and the Psych experiments. That's it
I love this guy! The class is very interesting- all about relationships. He talks about his life experiences- which is awesome. The class is not boring- very strict attendance policy. 2 tests are the only grades in the class- which are difficult, but you get extra pts if u go to class.
Nice man,but a bad teacher.Teaches straight out of the book,so class is a waste of time. He's a little senile,he gets easily distracted and wastes LOTS of time on personal stories.Only three tests, but you have to know the book forward and backwards.English is not his first language, can be confusing.
He's lecture is funny, but his tests are hard. Study very hard and dont fall asleep in class. Unless you wanna study your butt off take another teacher, attendance is mandatory!
if you want to learn alot about yourself and relationships, take this class. he really makes you think about things. i enjoy going to this class, the 2.5 hours that i have it each time goes by really fast. only grades are a midterm and a final but you get extra credit if you don't miss any classes.
He's from Iran so it takes a while to get used to his accent and every once in a while part of his lecture can be confusing, but he understands this and takes questions to clarify. 3 absences allowed without penalty. read and use the CDs that come with text--they have sample test questions online!
Nice guy, horrible class! His lecture is right out of the book, so there is really no reason to go to class, other than his attendance policy. tests are insanely hard! you have to know every minute detail in the book! don't take him if you can!
Uncle Bijan is awesome! He LOVES to teach and really cares about everyone of his students! This class is not hard but you must study you butt off to get a good grade. There's only 3 tests, but he curves. Attendance is mandatory. Overall I liked the class I really learned alot
I loved this class!! Uncle Bijan is a wonderful man and his enthusiasm makes this class a joy to attend. His tests are kinda hard, and he has a strick attendance policy. I loved the material, everyone should take this class before they graduate, wonderful life skills!
Class = way harder than it should be. Teacher = sweet and very interesting man. This class is not exactly a GPA booster, but worth it to have the pleasure of knowing Uncle Bijan.
I LOVE UNCLE BIJAN. an amazing man, the only class i feel i retained any information from this semester. He keeps the class involved and interested. pleasure to know
if you study and do the readings there should be no problem. definitely not an easy A...however, i got an A no problem but i honestly studied and ready every page requested. hes really nice and funny.
Human Intimacy was a cool class. Don't chew gum or wear hats around this guy, he'll go nuts. And if you're cell goes off, you're grade is lowered. He will really help ou if you can't figure out how to study the material. His tests are by the book. Participate in class and he'll boost your grade. He is fun and keeps you awake.
A lot of the material seems to be commen sense. Uncle Bijan is quite an amazing professor and is concerned with improving the relationships of all 19 or 20 thousand of his former students. The exams are extremely difficult, and the class is exhausting. However, take it before you graduate or before he retires, or you'll regret it.
Ok so the tests are ridiculous, but Uncle Bijan is adorable! Def. take this class before you graduate *i would recommend taking it pass/fail though...A is challenging to get, most get B's or C's* but def. an interesting class and he's soo funny!
Amazing class where I learned so much about relationships, conflict, and communication. He is such a smart and knowledgeble person about psyc. Buy the book, read the chapters, do minimal studying for an A. No homework except reading, only mid term and final tests, only 8 week class.
I definitely recommend Uncle Bijan. He's a great professor who really has a passion for what he teaches. If you are having trouble go ask and he will help with anything. Exams are hard, but the class is so worth it!!
Great class, awesome professor, however a bit difficult if you are taking as an elective. Recommend to take CR/NC, because it is such a worthwhile class to have before you graduate! VERY strict attendance policy, and difficult exams. He makes it seem like you have a free absence, but dont miss ANY! It will kill you in the end. Hard, but I love him.
Bjan is an amazing professor. Yes, the class is kinda difficult. You definitely have to read the book to pass his exams, but it's worth it. This class is life-altering, life-affirming. You learn so much about yourself. So quit worrying about your GPA and take the class!
great professor: he is quite a character! Funny, entertaining, extremely loving, but adheres to a strong moral code, thus you must respect his policy. Also, be sure to be prepared for this class emotionally and mentally: it is not worth your time if you are not. Tests, contrary to what has been said, are actually easy. Just be present EVERY class.
He is the sweetest man that I have ever met. The class is very interesting, but the tests are a little difficult. Just remember to study really hard and READ the TEXTBOOK!!! Don't just study the notes!
such a sweet man and really passionate about what he does but not that great of a teacher. he hardly teaches the material cause he goes on really random tangents and the test questions are on the tiniest little details.
He really changed my life!
Uncle Bijan is the best teacher I have had a JMU. He tries very hard to get to know his students on a personal level and relate to them. GREAT guy, extremely passionate. Do not take this class if you will be late... he locks the doors when class starts... but it is definitely worth it. Exams really arent impossible. JUST READ
I loooovvveee Uncle Bijan! My favorite class and teacher by far at JMU. He honestly cares about his students and will do anything to help them. Tests are difficult but if you read the book and study- you'll be fine! Take this course...very helpful in a lot of different areas of life!
One of the best classes I've taken in my entire JMU career - would definitely recommend for everyone to take before they graduate. His lectures are amazing. He has a lot of real world experience that he brings into class. Tests aren't impossible, but would recommend taking the class pass/fail if possible. Definitely a must take.
Bijan Sadaatmand is a wonderful professor. I would definitely recommend him. His tests can be a little challenging, but if you read the chapters and go to his lectures you will definitely pass. He has a lot of interesting stories about his life that relates to psychology. Very sweet man and he is passionate about teaching. Take him!
I absolutely love Uncle Bijan. His energy and love for students make going to class a pleasure. Don't get me wrong 2 and 1/2 hours will get you but he makes it ten times better. This class has changed my life and I'm so glad I was able to take it. It is definitely a must before you graduate. Tests are hard but read the book and you'll be fine.
nice professor but his test are impossible. they are straight from the textbook but really detailed. he thinks everyone is majoring in psychology and expects you to understand every concept. there are no extra credit assignments but a little curve on each test. if you want a nice teacher take him if you want to get a B or A don't!!!!
The absolute best professor I have ever had. This is a real self-realization class. I cried the day it ended. Really makes you think about your life. I will never forget this man's wise words. One of the best people I have ever met, and will ever meet. Absolutely wonderful. Take this class- you will use what you learn in it forever.
Simply put, Uncle Bijan is the cutest man EVER. I absolutely love him. Go to class, READ THE BOOK, and you'll do fine.
Super nice and really likes to get on a personal basis with each of his students. There are only 3 tests, and they are all 100 multiple choice questions. THey can be challenging if you have not read the chapters, but if you have a B is def. attainable. Strict attendance policy, but going to class will help you on the tests in the end.
Amazing Professor. Cares about individual students as long as you participate. If you have an interest in psychology and human development his lectures will captivate you. Although his tests are challenging, constant studying and meeting with him for extra help will yield a marked improvement in your grade.
he is so cute, and a fun teacher...really textbook reading heavy...3 tests, that are very hard, but if you study and work, you can pass. He loves his students, you can tell...
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS - IT'S SO STUPID! I wish I hadn't wasted my time with it. The lectures are so stupid - I could teach them. He puts everything in "quotes" and I don't agree with half of the things he says about relationships. Dumbest class ever, please don't take it. It sounds cool but it's NOT.
He is a very nice man, but not my kind of teacher. He just lectures "from the book" and never writes anything on the board. He'll tell you to listen and not write anything down...how are you supposed to remember what he's saying? ALL of the test material comes from the textbook though so I recommend reading!! 3 unexcused absences allowed
Great teacher. This man loves to teach and you see that every time you walk into class. As he says in the start of his class, teaching is his passion. If you are considering pscyh as a major its definitely worth taking this professor. Otherwise, he is quite hard and it requires you to read the book extensively. Knows his stuff, and entertaining.
You will have a great day on Mondays and Wednesdays if you take Human Intimacy. You will learn a lot of practical information, and as long as you don't miss any classes you will get good test grades - attendance is a large part of your test grade.
OMG i love Uncle Bijan. That's right he wants everyone to call him uncle and not Dr. or Professor. He genuinely loves his students. He gives everyone kisses on the cheeks and hugs. He is such a nice guy and a good teacher. Class was long (2.5 hours cuz it's only 8 weeks) but I always looked forward to going. Def take this class!
Please do not take this class. It is a waste of time, I learned nothing about relationships. He loves his favorite students and ignores the rest. Ridiculously controlling and shoots down students opinions. It is not as cool as it sounds.
A great great man and he means well. However, this class is not as exciting as it sounds. The first few classes are fun but it starts to get pretty old really fast. His tests are in broken english which makes them 10x harder than they're meant to be. Take the class if you are truly interested in this topic; otherwise save your time.
Uncle Bijan, as he likes to be called, is such a wonderful professor. He truely enjoys teaching, which makes it easy to study for his tests. Only 3 tests. No final. You do have to go to class, but it's enjoyable. TAKE HIM! You'll love him!
It wasn't exactly what I expected. It's an extremely interesting class. And it can be applied to almost every relationship you've been in and every relationship around you. I really think you do learn a lot of stuff about you. Class is long and tiring, and it sometimes gets old. Take it if your really interested in the topic. Hard to get an A.
Uncle Bijan is a great prof. He knows and loves teaching psych so much. it is his passion! Class is manditory (3 to miss) but not boring. He cares about his students and will make exceptions if necessary. I highly recommend this class! It was an honor to be in it honestly because he is so intelligent and experienced! 3 tests. lecture from book.easy
bijan is a nice man he is very passionate however passion doensn't do anything for the students. test are impossible unless you memorize the book.. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.... you will not get a A or B if you work hard you might get a C ...
Bijan is a very cute old man, he loves teaching however DO NOT TAKE IF YOU WANT AN A or B. i got a D on the first two test and a F on the final but ended with a C honestly i think he just passes everyone. Go to class read and try you should pull a C but its very HARD
Nice guy, but unless you have a photographic memory, take someone else. He uses the tests that the author of the book wrote and each one is 100 questions. His lectures are kind of helpful in pointing out the more important parts of the chapter, but basically it all comes down to how well you can remember all the minute details of the reading.
I love uncle Bijan! The tests aren't bad if you read the book, take notes and pay attention in class (what you're supposed to do). He remembers everyone and really cares about his students and has a lot of personal experience in this field. If you're a psyc major take him because you'll get an automatic override into Human Intimacy.
I love Uncle Bijan! He wants you to adopt him as his uncle, so from the start he is Uncle Bijan. His class can be a bit boring, and his test are tricky ... but if you do study then you will get an B. This class taught life lessons ... and that will stick with me. No textbook, you make your own. Seriously, take him ... you'll thank youseld later
Although he is a very nice man and the class is of an interesting topic, I would not recommend the class. The tests are extremely difficult and he does not offer + or - in the class. I had an 89 and I received a B. No matter how much you study the tests are very difficult.
Uncle Bijan is so cute and sweet. he cracks me up. He loves his students and he loves his subject. I would definitely recommend this class. Its pretty challenging, but if you make flashcards for yourself then it is tons easier. The tests are hard so make sure you study. I have an A though, so it is possible!
He is soooo hard. i highly reccomend not taking this class if you need to do well in it. I took AP psych in highschool and finished with a B. and was failing his class and had to drop it. His tests are in a foreign language. And he is not very approachable. If you have him, good luck.
Test questions are very very specific. You need to memorize your notes. Besides struggling for the grade-you only get one midterm and one final in the short 8 week term-you will REALLY enjoy this class and appreciate it for the rest of your life. You make your own book of print outs about relationships and your own identity. He's very sweet!
Uncle B's class is definitely challenging. Don't take this course with him if you're expecting an easy A. If you don't go to class, don't expect to fully know the material. His tests are long, multiple choice and require hours of studying. If you're genuinely interesting in psychology and are willing to work, Uncle B will be great!
Bijan is a nice guy but his class is rather boring. On top of that he allows NO eating, drinking, chewing gum, going to the bathroom and you fail if he catches you on your phone. Test are extremely hard. I managed to get a B when I thought I would be able to get an A. Think twice before you take this class.
I have very mixed feelings on him. On the one hand, his tests are extremely hard - very specific questions and its hard to understand what he's asking for. Also, class seemed to drag on a bit. However, he is so passionate about teaching and is such a nice guy. He wants you to do well and like the class. If you like psych, take the class.
His class is really difficult. He is very passionate about it but do not take this class if you need to do well. The tests require hours of studying and they are so hard! I ended up with only a B and I thought I'd get an A for sure.
The class is difficult, but he as a person has so much to offer to a student i think the poor grade is worth it. He is what a teacher should be. You can learn so much from him and you will love his class. But it is very tough. I love love love this man. He will change your life.
BIGGEST WASTE OF YOUR TIME. All the class is is outdated stereotypes and useless relationship advice. Attendance is required, so there's no avoiding it once you're signed up. As a psych major, I can't believe he's still allowed to teach so much empirically unsupported info. If you want an elective, this is your worst possible choice.
Uncle Bijan, as he gets all his students to call him, is great! He only talks about the book that whole class, with lots of personal examples. It is NOT an easy class, and the exams are directly from the author of the textbook, but it was interesting. If you enjoy the subject take this class, but be prepared to study a lot!!!
Uncle Bijan is really nice and he loves teaching and his students. But his class is VERY HARD. There is 3 tests and that's your whole grade. His rules are strict, if your absent more then 3 times he lowers your grade but a whole letter, if your cell phone goes off in class you fail, and he locks the doors after 5 minutes then you are marked absent.
I loved this class. While it got boring at times, the information you learn can be very interesting. He's strict on the rules, but they're a necessary evil. I personally didn't think the tests were that hard... EVERYTHING you need to know is on the outline.
Unc. Bijan is such an inspiring person. This class has changed my life. Yeah, the tests are kind of hard, but they are not unreasonable.
This class is hard, but so worth it. He is an amazing teacher who is passionate about what he teaches.
Such a great man. Does not require much from students, only YOUR ATTENTION. no cell, no laptop, must be on time. Allowed 3 absences. Tests are legit word-to-word from the textbook; memorize and you'll get an A. No hw. I will be taking class from him again.
Awesome man stories are funny and he knows what he is talking about. Test comes from textbook so they are challenging but it not difficult to pass his class.
I love Uncle Bijan, he is my favorite teacher at JMU so far. He is so accomplished and experienced in his field and truly does love his students. You will sail through his tests if you read the chapters, and he always gives a curve. Take him!
Uncle Bijan is a very smart man. I learned a lot from him. However, he is very strict (especially with attendance and cell phones). But if you pay attention, come to class, and study, you can pass with an A or B easily.
Bijon rambles and goes on tangents sometimes. tests are info-PACKED but you get the great you work for. that being said, it is clear that he genuinely loves teaching and has a sincere desire to help his students do the best they can. he will help you if you ask for it. great guy and overall great time in this class.
Silence your phone! If it does go off, you have to be really convincing and tell him that it was a family emergency. (Look distressed)
Uncle Bijan is the best! He has to be one of my favorite professors at JMU. There's 3 exams each 100 questions, but they are not that hard if you read the book. His class is interesting. Overall, TAKE HIM! He's the best
You must must MUST take Uncle Bijan's class! Even if you have no reason to take psych! He's the wisest, kindest, sweetest little man you've ever met and he'll change your life! He not only makes the topic interesting and fun but he has so much good advice for life in general and so many moving stories you'll just get so much out of the class.
He has a very strict attendance policy, but there is literally no point in going to class. His lectures are so hard to follow so it was impossible to take good notes. Plus the tests are straight out of the textbook, so if you read the textbook you'll be prepared for the test. For the entire semester I drew pictures in my notebook and still got a B.
Class was mandatory, but I could have gotten more work done without going to class. The tests are straight from the book. They do cover tiny details, which can make them difficult. If you study you will be fine.
Love Uncle Bijan. Tough class. But you earn the grade that you put effort into.
Uncle Bijan is the man! I absolutely adore him and his class on Human Intimacy. He knows so much, and cares so much about the subject and his students and I think he's a wonderful professor to experience. The class can move slow at times, but it's definitely worth it. He's taught me more than I can express in 350 characters.
love Uncle Bijan. great teacher who actually likes coming to class and helping kids learn. tests are straight from the textbook. easy A if you study hard enough.
Uncle Bijan is a wonderful man but his class is not the best. He has a very different way of teaching, and personally I found it very hard to even pay attention because I didn't know what the heck he was talking about! The tests are completely from the book, which I found interesting enough. They are also pretty hard, but hes curves grades A LOT!
Most students seem to like him. I personally didn't; he's very...touchy/feely. Gives a study guide that is basically the test. Has a strong accent and is sometimes hard to understand. Attendance is mandatory. He is a nice guy and very enthusiastic about the subject. Like I said, most students like him.
I was put off by "Uncle Bijan" at first. He is really strict in terms of classroom procedures, attendance, syllabus, etc. He has no boundaries which isn't too bad because knows (mostly) with whom he can mess. His lectures are all over the place & I had a hard time following him, but he is funny. I didn't find his study guides helpful. Class is fine.
He is very strict. No chewing gum in class, no texting, no talking, no sleeping, etc. You have to sign into class everyday. His lectures are the most boring lectures I have ever sat through. He gets off topic a lot and just tells stories. You will have to just read chapter by chapter to do well on tests. He is a cool, but not the best teacher.
Not the MOST interesting psych class - but it's a good easy A opportunity. I cannot believe people say his tests are hard. Yes, they are very detailed, but it is straight out of the textbook. Read and take careful notes. Time consuming but not mentally draining. Uncle Bijaan is a character. I loved him and his stories. Wise, intelligent man.
Uncle Bijan! I love this man to death. Such a sweet and amazing professor. He truly cares about his students' well being and takes the time to get to know everyone. His exams are pretty easy. As long as you read the chapters and memorize key termsvocab you will be fine. There are only 2 exams and 1 final (non cumulative).
Those who have *accommodationsdisability services* -you'll have to fight for it. He doesn't allow laptops to take notes. I was pretty much forced to take notes by hand. Still, he doesn't really have a lecture to take notes -you basically sit and here about his life which is pretty interesting, but not a lecture as much as a talkative study buddy
Basically you do a lot of outside reading and then come to class and he will lecture on the chapter you read. He's super funny though. There's only 3 tests- 2 during the semester and then the final. He only lets you have 3 absences, after that you get a letter drop in your grade unless you email him. He's strict but was one of my favorites.
Uncle Bijan is a sweet man, but not a very good professor. His lectures are very unclear and scattered. Your grade is made up of 3 tests, including the final, so be ready to study. I taught myself everything from the textbook, studied a LOT for the tests, and ended up with a 91%. He also curves the tests a lot.
I LOVE UNCLE BIJAN. Although his lectures are a bit boring and confusing at times, he is such a great guy. He is so passionate about his job and his students, he just genuinely loves to be there. Exams are the only grades, & everything is out of the book, not his lectures. When he tells stories about his life, it makes going to class worth it!
Bijan is such a caring person but he is not a very good professor. He spends the majority of lectures talking about all of the students he's taught during his 48 years of teaching or how he's change so many people's lives. Lectures are extremely boring to sit through and he is very strict on no cell phones and attendance. Tests are also very hard.
Bijan is a great man, but not recommended if you are looking for clear & straightforward lectures because he is vague, confusing, & boring. He assigns "key concepts" for each chapter-study the outlined info & you will do well on the tests- he does not try to trick you. 3 tests & the final is not cumulative. An A is attainable if you put in effort
This professor is such a genuinely good man. I'm so glad to of met him. He really cares for his students and this class. He's old fashioned and strict and you just need to respect that. I would recommend this professor to anyone. He made the class so interesting and he was so passionate in every lecture he gave. He's a wonderful man.
Took this as an 8 week course. Lectures were the longest 2 12 hours of my life. Very boring. No book, but he makes you print out about 400 pages worth of material by the end of the semester. He is a genuinely good person, but I just had no interest in the class. His style of teaching is very old school. Two 150 question exams and thats your grade.
I never knew what he was saying, but the class was enjoyable. He cares for his students and loves his job. He doesn't let you pee and he'll kick you out of his class if he sees your phone. I never listened to his lectures on the subject matter, but I read the text and got an A.
LOTS TO STUDY. Tests are hard. Long classes, does not let you leave the room for the entire class time. He really cares.
The class is two hours and 45 minutes. He does not use power point and spends time reading off his notes. It gets very boring even though the notes are interesting.
Such a great man. So intelligent and I learned so much. If you pay attention, do your readings, and attend class you should do well. He's strict but as long as you follow his rules you'll be fine because he really is a fun, joyous man. You'll love him.
The man loves every one of his students! Even though he sometimes gets sidetracked with personal stories, his lectures are still interesting! I suggest you read the chapter before coming to class so you get more out of it. 3 100-question exams and mandatory attendance. His class policies are a bit old fashioned.
Hard grader but he is an amazing professor. He has so many interesting stories and is very funny and actually cares about every single on of his students and tries to get to know all of them. Don't be afraid to speak up in class because that just makes him like you more even if you are completely wrong.
This class was an awesome class and I do not regret taking it. However it's more of a luck type thing for the final grade. I did really well on the first exam, never missed a class, studied like crazy, didn't do so hot on the Final and my grade bombed.
Uncle Bijan is so fun! He is entertaining and interactive, despite being in a lecture hall. He is so knowledgeable and knows his subject well. He is very old school, but I enjoy that. He wants you to really listen to his lecture, not just show up to class. His class is fun and interesting, but not an easy A.
Very funny and inspirational man. You are expected to work hard, and if you don't, it will show in your grades. Must be able to sit for long lectures.
I didn't like Uncle Bijan at first but after a while it's clear that he cares a lot about his students. He gets off topic a lot but he's very passionate about the subject. Tests are super easy if you read the book.
I don't like going to Uncle Bijan's class but only because I don't like his long lectures and I don't really think the stuff he tells us in class will help with the tests. The tests are super easy but only if you read the book and study. I study for hours for these tests. But I think it is fairly easy to get an A and he loves all his students
Uncle Bijan is a really sweet guy and is very obviously passionate about his work. There's only 3 tests, two of which are the midterm and final. Just pay attention in class, take notes on a few important things, and READ THE TEXTBOOOK! He's super approachable and will go out of his way to help you. And he loves it when you speak up in class!
Took as a 8 week class from 3:30-6:05, longest class of my life. Really boring lectures. EXTREMELY STRICT. No textbook, you have to print everything out totaling more than 100 pages. Curves tests like crazy (only midterm and final).
DON'T MISS CLASS. THE AUTO BONUS POINTS YOU GET AT THE BEGINNING MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN YOUR GRADE, AND IM SURE ITS THE ONLY WAY I MANAGED TO PASS. Only 3 tests. Study hard, questions can be super specific. He really loves his students and is super passionate. He is wonderful.
Bijan Saadatmand, or Uncle Bijan as he likes to be called, is the most passionate professor I've had at JMU. Yes, his class is difficult and he is old fashioned when it come to class rules, but he cares about each and every student and wants nothing but success for them. He is always willing to help and is a genuinely kind man.
Dr. Saadatmand is a VERY old school professor. Your only grades are attendance and two fairly difficult tests. His lectures are super long, just him talking for 2 and a half hours without any slideshows or anything, but at least the material was interesting and useful. He also makes you print out about 200 pages of notes that he checks randomly.
This class was useless. His lectures are boring and hard to follow. The course content could have been interesting, but the class setup was not conducive for learning. 2 1/2 hour lectures twice a week and you're not allowed to miss class or leave to go to the bathroom. His tests are impossible, even if you pay attention, but he does curve a lot.
Uncle Bijan is an interesting guy! He really cares about his students and is really passionate about what he teaches. His lectures are sometimes confusing but if you read the book and fill out his key concept pages and study for the tests you'll do fine. There are only 3 tests including the final (100 multiple choice each) and he curves them.
Uncle Bijan means well but I wouldn't recommend this class. Lectures are long and he prefers you don't take notes. Lecture notes ( which he reads from directy during class) are available after the topic's been covered, though you don't learn much either way. Grade is dependant on two tests. Solid homework period if you don't sit in the first row.
Uncle Bijan seems cute and that he cares but that is about all you can say about him postively. His tests are made up of 200 questions. He doesnt let you take notes during class and has ridiculous rules Ex: Not being able to say bless you when someone sneezes, no breaks in a 2 1/2 hr class. So boring but also frustrating WOULD NOT RECOMMEND
Uncle Bijan is a very inspirational wise professor. He truly cares about his students and I love that in a teacher. he makes psychology interesting and if you go based off of his study guides and fill them out on your own, you will do very well on his exams, which he curves! He's a great, GREAT man. Love him
Uncle Bijan is one of my favorite professors at JMU. He truly cares about his students, makes coming to class enjoyable, and teaches what needs to be taught. He manages to learn everyone's name; he tries not to put anyone on the spot but has friendly conversation. There are 3 tests total, non cumulative and three required SONA points.
Uncle Bijan is the best. He genuinely cares about every single one of his students. He comes off really strict at first but he is really funny and has great stories. The semester grade is three tests, attendance, and SONA research, so it's important to show up and study. The tests can be kinda hard but he curves a lot. He's super understanding, too
Don't get me wrong, he is a great guy. We developed a great relationship in the class because I was the only one who talked. He boosted my grade @ the end because of that. But u actually have 2 study A LOT for the tests. They are detail heavy. Even though attendance is mandatory, u dont have to pay attention bc all you need to know is in the book.
Uncle Bijan is one of the best professors I've had. He curves the exams a lot, but you have to study for them or else you'll fail. It's a lot of material, but he has so much experience that he makes it fun. Would definitely recommend taking.
I loved Uncle Bijan's class! He truly cares about his students and loves to teach Psych. Your final grade is based on 3 tests (final is not cumulative) and SONA. If you read the textbook, take notes in class + home, and study hard, you'll do well. He also curves the tests! Attendance is counted and he has a strict no phones policy.
Uncle Bijan is in my top favs of profs. Really cares and tells great stories. Class is lecture heavy, however you really don't have to pay attention. Tests are made by the textbook company so just read the text book (its not too bad) Every test is curved usually around 7 points. Easiest class I've had at JMU so far. Strict no cell phone policy!
Uncle Bijan is the best person I have met at JMU. Attend classes, study the textbook, and do not procrastinate. There are three exams ( including non cumulative final examination) and hundred question for each. Amoo Bijan kheili doostet daram!
Uncle Bijan is a lot to handle. He is very over the top and eccentric and says crazy things and likes to give hugs. You are allowed 3 absences and then your grade lowers every time you miss. 3 tests are the only grades in this class. No homework or other things. The tests literally come straight from the book so make sure you get that. Easy class.
"Uncle Bijan" is a great guy and likes to interact with his students throughout class. Sometimes he gets excessive and takes it too far with his comments or hugging students, but he does care about all his students. His personal stories are so interesting, but you really need to read the textbook and study hard to get the grade you want.
Uncle Bijan is the best professor I have ever encountered. His stories are amazing and inspirational and you will leave every class with a smile. I was excited to attend every class. I recommend everyone to take him if given the chance. I LOVE BIJANN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Uncle Bijan cares about his students & is very passionate. There are 3 tests and 3 hours of SONA that count towards your grade, so doing well on each exam is super important! Lectures are mandatory (allowed 3 absences before you lose points) but they can be super boring/hard to follow. Keeping up with readings is the key to success in this class!
Only 3 tests throughout whole semester. No homework or quizzes. Attendance is mandatory, and if you fall asleep in class hell wake you up and take off 15 pints off final grade each time you do so but sometimes he was nice and didnt actually do it. Very funny and talkative. Applies the honor code, where he leaves room during exam.
uncle bijan is a really warm and loving man who cares deeply about each and every student. while his classes are extremely long, he does provide notes after each class ends (and is understanding if you want to take notes - just talk to him). only grades are the midterm and final, gives BIG curves. got a 98% in the class, it's possible to do well!
I absolutely love Uncle Bijan (yes, he likes when his students call him uncle). He is the most incredible person I have ever met with so much knowledge. He also teaches PSYC 275, which is a lot harder but SOOO worth it. I ended up with a B in that class. But for this class the book is helpful, and he allows you to have an earlier edition. TAKE!!!!
This guy is crazy. He will yell at you if you try to write things down, and if you try to leave you won't be allowed back in. He takes attendance points off if you have to leave the room even if it is an emergency. Ridiculously hard tests, and we only get one 5 minute break in a two and a half hour class. I regret not dropping his class.
Many people loved the class, but it just wasn't for me. He was very lectured based from the textbook. The test were quite long and the only grade in the class besides SONA and attendance. He doesn't allow late people or re-entry into his classroom.
Do not take!! He is very old school. You can't really do anything other than sit there and listen to him. The lectures are confusing and the tests are even harder. He is a sweet man with some great stories, but it is not worth it!
Definitely an easy grade if you're okay with teaching yourself. I have gotten an A on every test bc they are straight out the textbook if you study. He curves tests. Absolutely no homework and only 3 tests (including final). none are cumulative. He a very funny and friendly old man. But a bad teacher. Honestly, I would take it again though.
3 tests (including final). Tests come straight from the book. He curves them all. No homework or quizzes. Nothing graded online. Attendance is mandatory, you can only skip 3 times. Although, If you don't skip at all he adds 7 points onto your final grade!!!!! he isn't the best teacher and it is impossible to take notes based on his ramblings.
I took psych of human intimacy with Dr. Bijan in 2010, not a day goes by that I dont think about Uncle Bijans lectures and how much they helped me be a caring adult. Are his tests hard? Yes. Does he demand attendance and attention? Yes. If you want to fluff your GPA, avoid. If you want a class that will enrich your life? 100% take this class
Uncle Bijan is one the kindest, most special human beings I have met. He is not the best professor but he is by far the best person at jmu. i 110% wish i could take his class again. he should really teach a class about how to be a happy person becasue he is just an absolute gem.
Uncle Bijan is probably the nicest and most interesting human being on the planet. He has so many life stories and experiences that its really hard to not love him. Definitely not an easy A, but being able to experience Uncle Bijan twice a week makes the difficulty totally worth it. You'll know what I mean after the last class of the semester.
Uncle Bijan is a character, but really cares about his students. Grade is based entirely on 3 non cumulative exams, and SONA. Attendance is mandatory, but he allows 3 absences.. Exams are not too hard if you study, he gives study guides for exams and the questions are made by the textbook so read it and you will be fine. Easy A if you study some.
Uncles class is made up of 4 exams. no homework, quizzes, or papers. He makes attendance mandatory (can miss up to 3 classes) but I found his class super boring. He's an amazing, caring dude but I taught myself everything from the book. His tests werent that hard u just have to study a lot. considering thats the only work u have to do, worth it!
Uncle Bijan is actually one of the sweetest people ever. If you took psych in high school or took psych 101, his lectures will make much more sense to you. If you didn't, you will have to study the book a lot. I always look forward to going to class, he really cares about his "nieces and nephews" and will tell really cool stories. No homework!!
"Uncle Bijan" is a sweet man, however I don't love him as a professor. The majority of your grade comes from just 3 exams so you have to do well on them. His lectures are very long and hard to sit through, sometimes he just shares his life stories and doesn't even let you take notes. Definitely have to read the textbook to pass!
This class is solely graded on 3 exams and points from SONA psychology research, meaning you MUST do well on the tests. He tells you that the questions come directly from the textbook and the key concepts he provides on Canvas; however the textbooks chapter are so long, and the key concepts are broad. Get ready to read and teach yourself!
Grade dependent on 3 tests and SONA points, and the tests are long af and hard. His lectures are hard to follow and dont go over anything relevant to the exams. He loves his students and hes really sweet, but dont take this class unless you want to WORK for a good grade.
his lectures are not content based, all tests are on textbook only (each test is written by the author, not bijan), and he is very strict about his policies
Bijan is a sweet man; however, his lectures do not include slides and you are basically forced to sit there and listen for 2 and a half hours once a week. Tests on material that isn't in the content, forces you to print 400+ pages over the semester for "binder checks", and is strict about phone use. Great person, not so great class
Bijan tries to be kind but honestly most of the lectures are not helpful at all and they are BORING. Just read the textbook before the test and you'll do fine. He has lots of rules, you can't miss many classes or you get docked points. He always says "not to be political" and then follows it with a political statement. 3 Tests, SONA, thats it.
I love Uncle Bijan. He's a very caring man and really wants you to do well. That being said if you don't the readings you have no chance at passing. Make sure that you read the chapters along with looking at the key concepts.
Mr. Bijan is a funny professor who cares a lot about his students and his job. His class is all lecture and notes with no powerpoint. The only grades in the grade book are tests which makes it very hard to get your grade back up if you fail one.
Interesting class, but DONT recommend taking it with him. He LOVES to tell stories & half the time it makes no sense or has nothing to do with class. Grade is based on 3 tests & SONA. So bomb one & youre done for. LIVES by his syllabus, check it for test dates, DONT listen to him! 45 PTS OFF GRADE FOR PHONES IN CLASS & GO TO THE BATHROOM BEFORE!
Bijan is amazing and obviously loves what he does. He's awesome to listen to but gets a bit hard to pay attention after 2 1/2 hours of straight lecturing. I was told this class is an easy A, but I only agree if you study really hard for his tests. They're 85 questions and very detailed. Expect to see things you'd normally blow off while studying.
You can definitely tell that he is a professor who cares about his students. However, he is such a boring lecturer, you don't even have to go to the lectures to understand the material because it is 100% from the textbook. The only grades in the class are 3 exams and a SONA requirement, so STUDY if you want a decent grade.
Bijan cares about his students. He does not write his exams the author does, so read the textbook. 2 exams and a final and that is it. If you pull your phone/apple watch/laptop out you fail the class. Class is extremely boring so drink a coffee before and during the class!!! I would stay away.
Uncle Bijan's class consists of him telling stories about his life not teaching material. His lectures are hard to sit through without falling asleep, and you don't get much out of going. There are three tests including the final which make up your entire grade and they are tough. The only way to learn is through reading the textbook.
For two and a half hours you are listening to an 80+ year old man lecture on love and you aren't allowed to take notes. He's a great guy, and the content is interesting. But that style of lecture wasn't good for me so I didn't do as well. If you function well like that, take it. But if that doesn't appeal to you then I would stay away.
I don't think that anyone thrives with this type of teaching. We aren't allowed to even take notes, and all of his rules made me feel like it was Elementary school. He was a very nice person, and he seems to care about his students, but I wouldn't recommend taking the class.
Definitely takes pride in teaching his students, but lectures consist of his personal stories and you cannot use the bathroom without being called out. I would stay away as he is very strict with his rules and there are only 3 tests. There are no other grades which makes it hard to do well if you are not a good test-taker.
Bijan made Psych 160 nearly impossible. You aren't allowed to take notes without getting yelled at, so you're forced to stare at him lecture for over an hour. However, the lectures do not help on tests as the tests are 100% from the textbook. There are only 3 grades, making it very difficult if you bomb one. Stay away from him, not worth it.
At first Uncle Bijan is a lot. He's a character for sure, but he's a great one. The lectures aren't key for the tests, but are mandatory for a grade. You NEED to go to all lectures for an A. The tests are straight from the book and reading/notes are mandatory for passing. You'll learn to love the guy but hate the lectures. Plus, material is great.
Uncle Bijan is a nice guy that really cares about his students, however, there are only 3 tests that make up your grade and, each being out of 100 points with a slight curve. SONA credits are 15 points. He doesn't make powerpoints and you need to teach yourself the majority of the content.
uncle bijan is an absolute angel of a human being. he has a very strong personality. if you take a phone out in class, you're dead. he kicked some kid out of the class PERMANENTLY for having a phone. he's strict, but he's SO CARING AND HE LOVES HIS STUDENTS SO MUCH. textbook in class every day, every day is a lecture. he tells a lot of stories.
mandatory lectures with exams that come straight from the book. tells pointless stories. makes everything super confusing. if you pull out your phone you will be kicked out of the class and failed. you basically sit there learning nothing and then you go home and teach yourself everything. avoid bijan!!! there are so many other amazing psych profs
this class only happens once a week, but the class is long, boring, and frustrating. you won't learn anything. it feels like a complete waste of time. i personally bring coloring book pages. you cant touch your phone or you fail. just 3 exams which everyone does bad on and he curves. dont take this class unless you need it rip good luck
Bijan is a really nice man who cares about his students deeply. He makes you call him "Uncle Bijan" which was very interesting. The lectures are straight from the textbook so they are pretty boring. The class is graded on three tests (including the final).
uncle bijan is nice, but incredibly frustrating. he wont teach you a thing, and you will learn everything from the textbook, so buy it! class is mandatory, and dont even think about touching your phone or he will humiliate you in front of the entire class and fail you. uncle cares about his students, but not worth the hassle:) good luck
Listen here if you are not a good test taker this is not for you! Missing class more than allowed will punish your grade. There are only 3 test, ONLY 3. Uncle Bijan is a caring and wise man who cares for his students and will often curve tests generously, but you still have to memorize each chapter to pass. GOODLUCK!!!
I had Uncle Bijan (thats what youll call him) my first semester at JMU. Take into account I was a junior and I transferred but I absolutely fell in love with this class because of him. Its a hard class but if you put in the work its easy. He wrote the book so take notes, but he is the sweetest man Ive ever met and is so sweet! Miss him!!
Uncle Bijan is knowledgeable and is truly passionate about his lectures. With that being said, he lectures for 2.5 hours straight with 0 visual aids. He allows for a small 5 minute break in between but trust me, it isnt enough. This class was unbearable and I would not recommend it.
Uncle Bijan is a nice guy and cares about his students but the class is unbearable. There are no slides or visuals he just talks and doesn't make a lot of sense. The tests come straight from the book so if you read every single page and study hard you can do well on the tests. Your whole grade is 3 tests. Doable but i don't recommend.
This is my second time taking Bijan. Had him for 160 & failed, so decided to try him again. If you want to do well, you need to teach the actual material to yourself. He always curves exams. Great guy with a lot of wisdom & experience. I loved listening to him talk about life but if you have a hefty schedule I would not recommend.
Only 3 exams and sona studies. Gives extra credit for never missing a class. The tests are made by the writer of the book. Sometimes he is super boring. Has you call him Uncle Bijan. Quizlets are helpful when studying. He puts a lot of stuff on canvas to help you understand things. Absolutely don't touch your phone ever otherwise you fail the class
really nice and caring guy, except his class is very difficult. lectures are hard to sit through because he just talks and doesn't use slides and doesn't encourage notes and rather you just read the textbook outside of class. no phones!! to put things in perspective i think i would've ended up with a C if it weren't for covid putting school online.
Uncle Bijan is a JMU institution. This class was difficult but in the best way; his material is very informative and actually relevant to your life. Exams are hard but there is always a generous curve, and your "savings account" points will boost your grade. I respect him so much and it was a gift to experience his lectures. Please take him!
I am in my doctoral program for vet med right now. Uncle Bijans class was needlessly self important. Doors locked, no bathroom breaks during lecture, failure for using your phone. Medical school professors aren't this full of themselves. He's nice and the content is interesting. He needs a reality check. No other profs acts this way for a reason.
Bijan's class is challenging but engaging. Strict attendance rules, but the lectures are worth it if you stay focused. Unstuckstudy AI was a lifesaver for exam prep - highly recommend alongside the free textbook.
