the class material for this course is difficult. professor zandi is a nice guy but his teaching method was not helpful. he went through examples fast and didn't explain them thoroughly. no homework collected and attendance is not mandatory. there were 4 tests and the final. i would not take him again. most people got real low scores on the tests
There are better professors at Depaul. This class is either hit or miss. You don't get enough opportunities to accumulate points, his exams are only between 8-10 questions. Don't take him if you want to maintain a good GPA
He does not collect the homework. The chapter quizzes are out of 100 points and are all or nothing. He goes over the material too quickly and will only answer a few questions a class. He does not seem to be too concerned if you understand the material.
His tests are all multiple choice. His final for Calc 1 was 10 questions multiple choice and I ended up with a D+ in the class, so I probably had to retake it over 1 question. He flies through the material, doesn't care if you don't get it, and is not very personable so don't bother office hrs. Just a lazy professor that just want a pay check!
I never liked math but this teacher made me like it. He is very clear on his assignments but you have to be able to keep up with his quick pace. If you go to class every time you will be fine.
He is a very good teacher, makes sure you understand the material. If you do not he is willing to go over problems and he explanation numerous times. Just do the homework, answer questions, and you'll do good! Take him if you actually want to learn.
He did not present the material well. He often made mistakes when he was doing problems on the board. His hand writing was not clear, and he did not explain things thoroughly. However, he really wanted his students to do well and offered help when they needed it. Your grade depends on your test scores which are normally ten problems and multiple
10 question multiple choice tests? wtf I made the mistake of thinking that having only 60 multiple choice questions compose my entire grade (no hw, attendance, quizzes or anything are counted) would be a good thing. Every question has 5 choices (A,B,C,D, E "none of these") that made it brutal and intimidating. Calculus sucks enough as it is
Literally no help. Hardly even understands what he's saying... needs to be corrected by students constantly! DO NOT RECCOMEND.
Prof Zandi is a VERY good teacher. All these past comments are only the people who failed his class. DO NOT listen to them! Take it from me, I took 2 classes with him He made the material so much more easier, he makes sure you understand the material well before the exam. If you do not tell him what you need help with how is he going to know? Talk!
Formula to do well in his class: Homework + asking questions = Good grade. He is a good prof! TAKE HIM!
Good teacher, one of the best I have had thus far. He ensures that you know the material before the test. The test reflects from homework and examples in the class. He writes his own tests so you'll know what to expect. Take him. You won't be sorry.
The material is hard so go to class, do the homework and ask him questions you don't understand. There is no way you will get below a B if you do all those things. I would recomend taking him! GOOD TEACHER! :)
Math has always been hard for me, but Prof Zandi made it very easy by showing every step there is to solve a problem. Don't miss class and do the homework! I recomend him!
Take him!
Prof. Zandi grading method is not helping students. Like someone commented his class is hit or miss. I do not think he pays attention to do homework students have to do on MyMath Lab. He pays attention to the online quizes and tests in the class only. If I have to retake Math 140 I would not take it with Prof. Zandi.
Prof. Zandi grading method is not helping to the students.Hours and hours students spend doing homework at MyMath Lab.During class he goes so fast through the material, his in class tests are multiple choice questions (app 10 questions). If you miss 2-3 questions you are in deep trouble.I would not recommend this professor.
Overall he has a good personality, but he is not a good professor. He relies on power points pre made on Mymathlab and runs through the lesson so quickly that it is hard to understand. He insists that the class should know everything he has "taught" yet no one knows what he is saying. I do not recommend him at all!
Prof. Zandi is a clear teacher, he does not only rely on the mymathlab slides, he actually takes the time to teach his class his own way and always asks for questions from the previous section covered! take him
I Didn't do the work on a timely basis but I believe he taught the class well from what I remember from the lectures I was ready for. Many late nights cramming the HW in were aided by a memory of something he said in class. His class would have been easy if I had done my HW on time.
What we learned in class was not the same as what was on our online homework. We learned things out of order.. we learned the basics last and the most difficult material first. My tutor had to reteach everything to me because Mr. Zandi talked and wrote soooo fast and did not explain the steps of a problems. Everyone say there staring off into space
I as an incoming freshman, and math is my weakest subject, I thought that Professor Zandi was a good teacher. Yes he would speed while he lectures the lesson, but I've learned things that I NEVER learned from any of my high school teachers. I recommend him!!
Horrible teacher, I would not recommend him. He would miss class, he missed five classes without communicating that to us. He would then fly through material to play catch up expecting everyone to understand it because he just did it. He relies on power points. Constantly needs to be corrected on mistakes by the students. I took him at Harper.
Save yourself the heartache and take a different teacher. He gives you extra material to cover that other professors don't. Your C will be worth someone else's A in another class. He's a nice guy. It just sucks that you have to work so much harder in his class to get the same A your friend in another class is getting for 1/4 of your workload.
Do not take MAT 136 with this guy. You are graded on 4 multiple choice tests that all have none of the above as an answer. His tests are extremely difficult and he doesn't give points for work.
Okay, this man is the worst. He will make you want to transfer. He has 4 tests that are multiple choice. The material on the test was completely different from the lecture. He is condescending and very in-your-face rude to students who ask questions. You have to WORK extremely hard to "earn" a C. Trust me, DO NOT TAKE HIM. YOU WILL BE SORRY!
I took MAT 136 with professor Zandi this past spring and got a B+ for the course. He explaines well and I learned a lot from him. He drops the lowest test score and curves the final grades. Don't listen to few loosers below who have either failed or have barely made a C-. My advice, take him, you will learn a lot.
He is a very good professor IF you are good at math. The class was easy for me, but many students dropped. He makes tests from problems he highlights in class, so tests are easy if you attend class regularly. He is one of those math professors who is too smart to explain things for non-math brains, but is very helpful if you need outside help.
Terrible teacher, I dropped the class. He flies through material so fast that no one can understand. Tests are multiple choice but the material is totally different than what he discusses in class. He kept telling everyone that they should be in MAT 095. Uses power points that students can't access and we didn't ever use the book.
Difficult class. I worked my butt off for that A-. You get four tests, and he drops one. Then a final. Add those up and average it and there's your grade. He's very smart, which makes it difficult for him to "dumb it down" and explain more clearly to those of us who struggled with the material. Only take him if you're prepared to study for hours.
He gives the easiest and shortest way to solve a problem - which is better than doing it step by step.
Hes really the sweetest teacher and very easy going. he gives you the easiest and shortest ways to solve equations! i loved him the overall rating "2.7" is so not accurate he rocks and is a must take if you can!
LOVED HIM!!!!
Taking AP Calc in high school, the class was extremely easy for me. However, it is important to note that some of the methods that Zhandi uses to teach are much more confusing than need be; that said, many of the other students had a hard time grasping the concept as he wasn't particularly helpful with extra explanation.
Very confusing lectures and the homework isn't collected until the very end, therefore leaving procrastination to build up.
Terrible professor. Will lecture at beginning of class, every class, about how getting anything less than an A in his class will not lead to a career in the future. Would never recommend to anyone!!
He is the worst teacher I have ever had. I would not recommend taking his class ever. He screamed at me in the middle of my final for writing down formula's that I memorized on the final... after it was passed out. He accused me of cheating and the entire class had to come to the rescue. My tudor always needed to reteach me. DO NOT TAKE. HORRIBLE
Took him for precalculus. I wouldn't recommend him due to how he lectures for about 15 minutes talking about how not getting A on any of your classes won't lead you any career. Goes over the lecture slides pretty quick and most of his steps are kind of vague. Tests are not that hard, but get read to study for the final.
He goes through lectures EXTREMELY fast, expecting us to follow along with brand new material, and to know how to do it within seconds and basically calls us stupid if we dont. tests are MULTIPLE CHOICE and like 10 questions which is ridiculous for a business calc class because no partial credit for work is given. getting even a B+ is IMPOSSIBLE
He gives a bunch of example problems w/o giving you time to process, you have to do most of the work outside of class which can be tough when he doesn't teach the way the book does. Tests are only 10 multiple choice questions and "none of the above" is an option-- No partial credit, so you either sink or swim. Don't put yourself through him.
He is honestly one of my favorite professors!! Many people may not like him because it is hard to keep up with the pace, but it is not hard to get a good grade in the class if you are willing to put some time into doing the work! You are allowed one index card on each test and he drops your lowest test and quiz grade! Very funny and nice professor!
Zandi is a very cocky and arrogant kind of professor. If you raise your hand too much in class you can tell he gets annoyed. Overall, if you do your work and get help from time to time you'll pass.
The type of class you just need to pass. He is very hard to work with and is never willing to help. I would not recommend to take his class.
Whatever you do stay away from this teacher. I had to try extremely hard just to pass the class. Your C- in this class will be equal to someones B+, or even A- in another decent MAT-135 class . He knows his material, but he can't teach math for his life.
I just found out about my Test 3 score to be 100. I was so excited that I hod to leave a review. Zandi rocks. Best math teacher I have ever had. Don't listen to few losers that Have no idea why they are in college!!!! I will take the next Math class with him again.
If you are good at math, you can learn the material easily. He's not good at explaining it to people who have trouble with problems. The reviews who say people who criticize him are losers are irrelevant, since the guy has an average of 2.2 Just ask yourself this: Good at Math? take him. Have some to almost no difficulty? don't take him.
His class is tough, he is too smart to be teaching students who arent math majors. He is nice, good sense of humor , I wish i had his math skills - but I havent taken math in years and the class overwhelmed me. dont take unless you willing to put lots of time & effort in and learn a bit on your own. Great professor though, just too advanced.
Professor Zandi goes through examples in the book very clearly and thoroughly. There are four chapter tests that are multiple choice, and for every question, none of the above is an option. The quizzes were online, but they were no blow off either. You really need to study for his class and make sure to do ALL of your homework. It is a challenge.
Professor Zandi is pretty nice guy, he's really good at explaining things and he also shares some real world knowledge to his students. One thing I really like about him is that during lectures he tells you to solve a problem for practice, and it was able to help understand what I was learning. But sometimes he could get really cocky.
You could not pay me to take another class with him. Professor Zandi is a good person, don't get me wrong, but he is impossible. Has a tendency to make students feel stupid for asking questions and does a poor job of explaining when things are asked of him. 3 tests in class, 3 quizzes online. Tests are NOT similar to quizzes.
Avoid this teacher. He makes students feel dumb when they ask questions. He's a nice guy but can't really teach. He teaches the concept once and expects you to be able to do it in 30 seconds during the practice. If you are not a math person, do NOT take this class with him. He is more advanced for the "mathy" people.
This man doesn't understand math doesn't come easily to everyone & makes people feel stupid for asking questions. Nobody wants to learn in a negative environment. Nobody wants to get help from you if they know you'll make them feel stupid for not understanding things. I'd recommend avoiding this teacher at all costs.
Teaches extremely fast! He lectures for 45 minutes & w/ the remaining time in class he gives you examples to do which are 9x harder then what he just taught. 4 tests & a final which is 5 classes in total that are taken away from teaching b/c of unnecessary tests. Tests are 10 multiple choice with none of the above for each option, no partial credit
Professor Zandi is an incredibly entertaining lecturer! He kept me engaged and presented the material in a way that was easy to follow. Math is not my strongest subject but he was readily accessible outside of class if I had any questions and genuinely cared about helping me understand the problems I was struggling with. I'd take him again!
I had a great time in Professor Zandi's class! I thought lectures were pretty straightforward and he made it clear what we really needed to focus on. He's a real caring teacher and has a good sense of humor!!
Prof. Zandi goes extremely quickly through lectures so it is difficult to actually learn the material. He expects you to know most material already. Uses my math lab but his work differs from my math lab assignments. Throws many curveballs on exams. Most importantly, he makes learning difficult. I would not take his class again if you paid me.
This guy is a total mess. I was sick the second class of hearing "you should take my math 118 class" and "cmon, guys. You should know this" after not taking a math class for 15 years. Honestly, with is inconsiderate demeanor and abject rudeness about answering student questions... I just don't even know why he teaches. He's in the wrong field.
He works way too fast and stands in the way of what he writes. He insults people who ask questions and makes the room tense, though he does make funny jokes sometimes. You feel like you are constantly getting dragged behind in his class because he doesn't seem to care if you know it or not.
It gets difficult after CH 2 and it doesn't help that mylabplus isn't the same as the midterm and final. Doesn't curve but drops lowest quiz. Lectures are powerpoint based with examples and he just goes really fast with the material. Definitely put in time to study
Professor Zandi knows what he is talking about but not how to how to talk about it. He makes minimal attempts to help students and can make the room tense at times. I would not recommend him for anyone who isn't good in math. Overall, not a good professor.
Zandi is a professor who is serving his own needs. Has very little desire to help students or encourage learning but more so to fill the class period. His tests are hard and he does not prepare you for it. Not a easy class to pass and not a good professor. I would reccommend not taking bijan.
For a professor who has a strong emphasis on not curving test grade, he makes mistakes frequently in class. He simply passes it off as a "simple mistake." Not helpful outside of class and gives no explanations during class which leaves students constantly lost. Unless you can teach yourself everything this class contains then do not take bijan.
Professor Zandi is a very nice and funny guy. He really cared if we succeeded and really tried to help us pass the class, as if we didn't pass we would have wasted three intensive weeks. Since this was a FYAS course there was a lot of work, but their was nothing too challenging and he was really good at explaining everything.
Bijan makes a tough class even tougher by complicating and rushing the lessons to stay on track. According to the math department, he has the highest withdrawal and fail rate of professors. Something I would have liked to know before taking him. I advise prospective students to look for other professors that will be better for them in a hard course
Goes by chapters wayyy to fast. I've been learning material by myself cause his lectures are useless. Expects you to know material from when you were in high school. Basically goes through an example in class and that is his lesson for the day. Took Buss Calc 1 a while ago and he does not help at all. "You should know this" is his saying
Bijan's class is a comedy of errors where he mocks you for asking questions and makes countless mistakes while teaching the material. Try as hard as you can on the homework--it won't be similar to the exams in any way. After having tested you on things he didn't teach you, expect a lecture on "the real world" and how he used to drive a forklift.
Zandi is a solid teacher. I had him for a freshman math class called Liberal Arts Mathmatics. He knows a lot of kids at Columbia College Chicago and Depaul don't care about math but tries to engage and make it as interesting as possible.
Professor Zandi was a fun guy which to me fostered a positive learning environment. I felt like his lectures were pretty engaging and I found him to be very approachable outside of class. Didn't have any issues in his class and would take him again.
Zandi is by far one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He brings up real world problems to his lecture. His grading is very fair and gives you a second chance to improve your grade. I will be taking MAT 137 with him in the winter quarter.
Great lectures! I was able to go to class and learn what I needed to learn in lecture. I really found the examples helpful. I liked his sense of humor--kept my interest level high!
Does not help you learn the material and does not give you a chance to improve your grade. The review below incorrectly mention that. The material is tough and his lectures are grueling because he makes no attempt to ensure the class understands. Would not recommend for Depaul students looking to maintain a good GPA.
I would not recomment this professor at all. He is the worst professor I have ever taken. He creates his own material and does not follow the college syllabus. If you really want to pass this class, I would really suggest to not take him.
nice guy but horrible teacher. Never ever taking him again. Does not teach at all. Ask him a question and say you don't understand, he will say you should know this already. completely avoid
Bijan moves so quickly through the lesson, expects you to understand the material then makes you feel nervous to ask questions. I think he means well, but it comes off a different way.
The material is not the easiest to grasp, but its not impossible. He teaches what he needs to, and it makes sense. To the whiners, it is expected you know intermediate math and study skills before you take ANY calc course. I was surprised how much class time was wasted because of students who couldn't add fractions or work with exponents.
He goes by too fast and most of the time the whole class is lost. Take another teacher for math, especially if you already find math difficult. No study guides are offered which makes studying for tests hard. This class does have a lot of hw but this is a math class that is to be expected however, the hw and the tests look very different.
Do not take this class. He is a nice guy, but not a good professor. He expects every student to walk in already knowing the material. He moves way too fast and his tests are totally different from anything you do in class or on homework.
I mean, it's Calc, so it is already a tough class to grasp if you don't understand it and even a tough class to teach. He is an average teacher, nothing special, pretty boring. Nice thing is that he does drop the lowest test, and quiz.
Mr. Zandi is a nice guy, but cannot teach for his life. He needs to find a new method of teaching. It's not 1973 anymore, it's 2019.
Not the best teacher for MAT 135. He is nice and has multiple choice exams but that is the only good thing. His quizzes are nothing like the test so you are stuck studying for two different things. TIP: NEVER MISS A DAY
Simple: teaches you one thing, tests you on a completely different thing. Really learn the material if you wish to pass. but still, he's ridiculous.
When students ask questions he would call both the student & question stupid and accuse the class of not caring or trying. Put down the class bc we're business majors taking calc for a requirement and not because we just love math. Very smart man but he assumes this is an easy subject bc its easy for him and it makes him a bad professor. Inflexible
He's pretty rude to students, while he teaches in his own way which complicates everything since all the homework is just through the textbook teaching you in a different way making the test extremely hard. He also gets mad when you ask him questions.
He has high standards and his personality might not be everyone's style, but he does a great job of making sure we actually grasp and understand the material. I found his lectures to be really helpful and if I ever struggled on a topic, I'd email him to get some extra help. Math is hard, but I'd 100% take it again with him! He's very dedicated.
Extremely rude to students who tried asking for help. His teaching is very confusing and he complicates the lessons. If you ask him a question, he will go OFF on you. Do not recommend taking him.
The homework and quizzes are pretty straightforward. The midterm and final are more based on lectures than previous homework or quizzes. He is a fair professor and if you put in the work you will be rewarded with a good grade.
Confusing lectures and nothing but busy work
I liked this class! Professor Zandi is a smart man and a good teacher. He can be pretty tough sometimes and doesn't take any nonsense at all but if you make a solid effort he respects that. He likes to call on random people during class so make sure you're always paying attention. If you do the homework and pay attention in class you'll pass.
Teaches in the most confusing way possible and expects you to already know everything. The only way you'll get a good grade in the class is if you're already extremely good at math. Never take his class!
This class isn't that hard but the Professor makes it really hard. His material is completely outdated and he says that you must follow what he teaches in class and not the powerpoints in D2L because they are old and contain very outdated information! I would recommend taking a different professor.
Prof zandi will assign 30 to 40 hw assignments for the 16 week course where each will take about an hour to 2. Lectures do not always go hand in hand in homework and quiz. He used Pearson math lab which was terrible.
Expect 30-40 weekly HW assignments. Lectures don't always align with HW/quizzes. Textbook and Pearson math lab were not helpful. Unstuck Study AI proved useful for exam prep.
I have never received a good grade in a math class in my entire academic career, but Professor Zandi seriously is one of the only professors that could make me understand mathematics for once. I put off this class for two years. He only wants his students to succeed which Is why he is so harsh at times, but he always means well.
He is honestly really nice and is a great professor. I would definitely take his class again.
